Message from the Ambulance Service

- I.C.E

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency). In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored as 'ICE'. Please put your ICE on your phone now and also forward to any family/friends, work mates for their own info also.

Bus Lanes : Trial period update Club Chairman , Ritchie, recently contacted the Council to ask for feedback on the 18 month trial, which allows motorcycles to use the bus lanes. The reply was that they had received very few complaints from other lane users - seems a good result so far. If you have any comments about the trial - please let us know!

Biker friendly ! (reports from club members of good places to visit). Good Cafe at Wrangaton Junction.(The old Navy Stores Depot) 7-30am till 3-30pm Mon to Friday. 7-30 till 2-30 Saturdays. Plenty of room to park, plenty of room to sit. Good food, friendly staff, clean & fresh. Motor Cyclists welcome. Eat well with a cuppa and change from a fiver. Bakery on premises. Worth a mention to the club. No connection other than a very satisfied customer who likes to eat. Kind Regards - David Humble.

Too expensive - or am I just tight? It may be me just wanting to have a moan , but I seem to be feeling ripped off lately. Answer this question … You decide to go into the city to do some shopping…...You wnt to look in Dingles, or Debenhams, or Woolies, then you’re stopped at the door and asked to pay £10-00 to get in…..Would you pay it?.......If you’re like me you’d probably tell them to stuff it and go to another shop where you don’t have to pay for the privilege of them trying to sell you something! So why are we happy to pay extortionate prices to get into events like— Ideal Home Exhibitions, Boat Shows , the Bike Shows etc etc. Isn’t it the same thing? They’re all out to make you pay to see or buy what , if you wait a while, you will see or buy in your local dealers anyway! A Sunday rideout recently took us to Weston Super Mare – to see the Beach Races . All went well until we arrived and found that it was £20-00 entrance price for spectators per day, Plus £3-50 for bike parking and £1-00 to put your helmet in!! Extortionate I reckon !- Twenty quid each just to stand and watch some guys racing up and down a beach! Even the trade stands were inside the gates! Also, there were no concessions for OAP’s - we had to feel sorry for the old couple who had gone to Weston for a few quiet days by the sea, only to find that their peace was shattered by the roar of Motos for two days, and they couldn’t even afford to watch what was causing the commotion! How many people were like us - made the journey, but they ended up paying out a wad of cash because of the “well - we’re here now” attitude. Needless to say , only a few from our group paid to see the racing, while the rest spent time lazing on the promenade enjoying the sun and eating Ice creams. - so it wasn’t a complete waste of a journey. O.K - we probably should have checked the price prices before we went - so the planning wasn’t thorough enough, but the fact is that, only a couple of weeks before, we could have gone to Weymouth, and seen the same thing for free! I’m not saying that it costs peanuts to set up events like this up - but it’s only one example of what seems to be happening more and more lately . I’m sure we’ve all been to events and afterwards thought “Did I really get my money’s worth then?” .Personally, I have decided to boycott high cost events like these in future and put the money towards filling the bike tank with fuel, I’ll spread my wealth and my fumes over the country roads instead! Be interested to know what you think! Denis

Another source for Tyres? I recently had to put two new tyres on my car - ended up going to TYRES UNLIMITED - they are part of MG’s UNLIMITED at Unit 2, Collaford Farm, Plympton (near Smithaleigh) I saved myself serious money on another quote for the same two tyres! - If you need to get your car re-shod - why not give them a bell and speak to Tony, tell him what you have - he will give you a price and get them there ready to fit next day.. Tony also tells me he can supply and fit bike tyres - but on wheels only at the moment - they do not take the wheels off for you. - however— I have also been told by the boss that you are welcome to take your bike there and strip it on site.
