Today’s transforming society spells a looming pressure for everyone to reflect on many aspects of their life. This made the challenges in our profession and personal life grow more fierce, demanding and competitive. We often ask ourselves the question, “Am I ready for the next version of myself?”

mindset is a powerful driver. The way we look is always a reflection of what we think about ourselves. As a young inexperienced office worker many years ago, I e way I dress up. It took me having one great boss to to be very shy and not confident with myself. There were so many wasted e my potential in the field. As her personal assistant, used I opportunities for success that I’ve missed due to my low self-esteem. And this was essionalism and style. One day, she instructed one of my reflected in the way I dressed up. It took me having one great boss to inspire and ome for coming to office with unpressed skirt. She told make me see my potential in the field. As her personal assistant, I always admired r but not dressed like one. The secretaries were more er. I heard her say “you need to dress properly forher the professionalism and style. One day, she instructed one of my senior colleagues to go home for coming to office with an unpressed skirt. She told her that she is a is really challenging to wear heels and semi formal office Manager but not dressed like one. The Secretaries were more properly dressed than her. I heard her say “you need to dress properly for the position”. At that time it was really challenging to wear heels and semi-formal office attire due to long commutes we had to take. But that’s not an excuse. When we wear proper shoes, makeup and outfit, we set ourselves ready and right for the tasks of the day. No need to buy expensive branded clothes. As long as it is clean, neat and well pressed, we will look good. Our appearance is critical for the job positions we aspire to take someday. Even if we are in rank and file post now but have the looks of a manager, we may surely become candidates for that position when the opportunity arises. When you look good, you feel good and your output at work becomes not only good but EXCELLENT. That’s getting dressed for the position!

Revisit Your Attitude. BEHAVIOR
There were only 25 employees when I joined the company in 2002. During that time, tasks began as one-man operations with no need for workplace niceties. For example, the inventory operations were handled by only one person back then. Today we have an entire department handling the inventory process. As businesses grow, the ability to work well with others is essential for forming strong relationships. We need to revisit our old behaviour and begin to have a growth mindset. Any ‘work alone’ attitude before is no longer applicable today. Being polite in the workplace and following proper workplace etiquette can help managers and workers function well as a unit. Polite behavior also can help avoid unproductive arguments. Proper office decorum defines who we really are. We may look good outside but without good behavior, we are geared towards failure. Discipline or office decorum comes from the Latin word “decōrus“ which means proper, beauty, grace, meaning "well-behaved in a particular situation.” Decorum is defined as appropriate, polite behavior. An example of decorum is to show good manners. Quite simply, proper office etiquette refers to an unwritten code employees should follow in the workplace. Office etiquette includes being courteous to others, as well as using workplace resources in a suitable manner. Indeed, aside from having an appearance for success, the next important aspect of building professional identity is our BEHAVIOR.

Alignment of Your Expression. COMMUNICATION Workplace communication is defined as transmitting information between one person or group in an organization. It can include emails, viber or text messages, voicemails, notes, personal talks, presentations, etc. With the presence of social media and other technological developments for communication, we tend to click send before we think. Oftentimes, we are sorry for the things we send out and unable to retract it. I remember being so angry at one time about an office situation with a colleague. I was so mad and expressed all my thoughts and feelings in all caps just to let out whatever I have inside that was bothering me. After typing it, I saved it in my draft box and went to the pantry for coffee. I was contemplating if I will send it and sever a relationship or not. I waited another day for that email to stay in my draft inbox. And finally, I decided NOT to click the SEND button. Thankfully, I did not send the nasty email. The person concerned and I spoke and was able to amend the issue. We both apologized and moved on as we know there are bigger items at work that we need to focus on. I felt happy and relieved that I was able to control my temper. Yes, as officemates we spend more time in a day at work than in our homes. It would be truly good to maintain harmonious and peaceful relationships with the people around us at the workplace. As a leader, I also see the value of communication through employee feedback. I try my best to communicate my satisfaction or dissatisfaction with my staff through immediate feedback on their work output. Either through email, text messages or personal talk, I find it important to give immediate feedback to my staff as a way of encouragement for their work. Most of the time, employees do not know how they are gauged by their superiors on their day to day work and thus, they are surprised come evaluation time. Indeed, workplace communication is very important to companies because it allows individuals to be productive and operate effectively. In our department, programs like “Happy Monday”, IC (individual consultation), demo reviews, small meetings and team meetings are effective means to maintain the up and down communication flow within the team. Employees can experience an increase in morale, productivity and commitment if they are able to communicate up and down the communication chain in an organization.

I used to be an Area Administrator in a multinational company many years back. My job does not require learning any technical or product knowledge. One day, a customer excitedly visited our office with his computer asking so many questions about how it operates and other basic technical concerns. Unfortunately, the other manager in charge of technical issues was absent that day. The customer was so disappointed with me for not being able to help him. The most painful thing I heard from him was “I wasted my time and effort in travelling here” and he left. I was first putting the blame on my absent colleague for what happened. But I was angrier and disappointed with myself. That day I realized, eventhough my task is mostly admin related there should be no reason why I should not try to learn and develop my product knowledge and technical skills. I remember being good in school and my academic achievements, and that I can study this. I realized that day that there should be no limits to what we can learn at work. I began getting interested in the technical side and product updates. Later on, I was already doing channel education training and expanding my job skills.
Level Up. DEVELOPMENT & SKILLS TRAINING Continuous learning and development in the workplace is a must. We learn from others when we observe, we learn when we ask questions, we learn when we accept projects unrelated to our job description and explore new areas and job roles. Lesson learned from my story: Always give your best and try to figure out how to do an even better job. NEVER STOP LEARNING. Maximize your potential. As Brian Herbert once said, “The capacity to learn is a gift, the ability to learn is a skill, but the willingness to learn is a choice.”
Balance & Stability EQUILIBRIUM
My definition of balance is a person’s ability to control its equilibrium in relation to its external forces. Life is really full of ups and downs. There is no perfect family. Likewise, there is no perfect workplace. The challenge is to learn how to use coping mechanisms that will help you overcome it. Learn to handle and overcome constraints. Remain calm and trust the one above us, God, who is always faithful to His promises. Equilibrium or stability helps us to remain at peace with ourselves despite our circumstances. I also realized that everything is based on our perspective. Any situation can be viewed positively or negatively. We need to ensure that we give proper attention to our physical, mental, emotional, social, professional, spiritual, and other important areas of our being to remain stable. When I was in school, I was always cramming. I was always beating the deadline for project submission, study, review, etc. I realized that I need to improve on my time management skills. I have so many wasted time doing useless stuff. I began to set priorities and finish first the most important items before getting relaxed. There are 24 hours in a day. Ideally, if you divide it into 3, you have 8 hours at work for your career and financials, another 8 hours for relaxation, rest and sleep, and the last 8 hours is really up to you on how you want to use it. Often, we use it for socials and entertainment. If you allocate it for learning something new everyday, you are actually preparing yourself for the next 5 years of who you can become. That “I do not have time” excuse of ours does not really seem true if you think about it.

Highway to Success. STAY FOCUSED
“The biggest challenge is to stay focused. It’s to have the discipline when there are so many competing things.” — Alexa Hirschfeld
Stay focused. But before you can focus, you need to set your goal. What is it that you want to become in the next 3 to 5 years? Once identified, get motivated, pump up and ready to create innovating plans toward success. Today, we are bombarded with so many distractions. The discipline to stay focused and motivated is truly challenging. One important thing to consider is to have a “me time”. In my case, waking up at 4am or earlier allows me to get myself set for the day. Early morning prayers and silence help me recharge. In silence, I am able to reflect on my day, analyze my mistakes and my areas for improvement. As the day unfolds, I look forward to my next day. It is like restarting or rebooting. In the workplace, focus at work is truly important. Know your priorities among the to-do list. A friend once said, “working hard is different from working smart”. Be efficient. Get your desk organized with all the important things to do. Mindfulness trains your brain to be better at concentrating because each time you notice that your mind wanders off from whatever you’re focusing on, you intentionally bring your attention back to the object of your attention. Take your break on time. When you start to glaze over, feel the first sign of fatigue, hunger or anxious, stop what you are doing. Don’t think that you can just “push through it”, struggling to focus will just tire you more and will most likely result in mistakes. Listen to what your body is telling you. Stand up, get a glass of water, have a biscuit or stretch. Let your mind rest, just 3 minutes should do the trick.

shared inspiration Focusing on the Goal HOW AM I IN ACHIEVING OUR TRANSFORMATION GOALS?
Throughout my career, I have discovered things that has helped me in achieving my goals.
Patience. More than anyone, I have to be the most patient with myself as I get to know the "how's" and “do’s” of the journey. Not everything comes easy, trust the process.
Persistence. No matter how hard it gets I will never give up. Do not let failure bring you down.
Optimism. Be a positive thinker. Always believe in yourself and have confidence in your abilities.
Faith. Pray. Trust God and have Faith that all things work out for your good. JM GARALZA Inventory Analyst, RBG BF Parañaque
It will always be a challenge to achieve your goals. The higher your goals are, the more challenging it is. At the same time, the more challenging the goals are the more value we put into it. We will always come across challenges and negativities, even our faith will be shaken. But we need to stand firm and stay committed to our purpose. We must also keep a strong character. This will also reflect how we are as leaders. We are not alone in this journey. Our team will be with us every step and in every sacrifice. We are one in this journey, we are one PMC! DANILO SARREAL Store Supervisor, RBG BF Parañaque
Being in the company for 8 years has been a journey for me. I thought everything was difficult. I was a fresh grad back then, with a “Happy Go Lucky” attitude. I have no concrete plans with my career, my future and even in life. I thought I just needed to finish my tasks everyday at work and i’m done. Until I realized, that was not the life I can be proud of. Then I started to FOCUS on which I think would help me grow as a person. My goals in life are to have a better career, a secured future, manage a business, improve my family's health and finances while being able to travel the world. These are the things i’d like to work on and achieve that may contribute to my growth. Especially now that I am a mom, I am more inspired and aggressive to pursue all my dreams and goals in life for my family. I believe I am at the right path and I am on my way! GRACE AGARIN Assistant Sales Supervisor, PBSI
Focus on my weakness until my weakness becomes my strength. This has been my practice in achieving our transformation goals. I know it is unavoidable to face obstacles and challenges. They are only indicators of how determined we are in our goals.
Give love to my work until my work becomes my passion. The journey is a work in progress, it is a continuous learning experience. Most of all, having faith in God and in what you can do is important to fuel the journey towards our goals. GRACIANO LONGCOP Mac Expert, RBG BF Parañaque Issue VI | page 7
