APRIL - MAY ISSUE

THE BUCK STOPS HERE

THE BEST PART OF MY JOB Was there ever a time you do not show up because you are really in a not-so-good mood?

Are you always excited to come to work?

I would be lying if I say yes. But I am paid to show up and obligated to do a good job. That is what being a professional is, right? But you know what, everyday I go for a duty then come home with a sense of purpose.

There are a lot of things happening in HR everyday. The first hour you may be handing Promotion Papers, then the next hour Disciplinary Memo, how do you manage each day?

Some days can really be tiring. There is a whole gamut of emotions everyday. And in HR, you have to be equally logical and affective. But whether it is Promotion or Disciplinary Action, New Hire Orientation or Exit Interview, all these are opportunities to touch lives and deepen relationships.

When do you feel frustrated?

HR is about People and Culture. Integrating People and Systems. Aligning the Job to the Individual. It is multi-disciplinary meaning you have to incorporate Sales, Marketing, Finance, P h i l o s o p h y, P s y c h o l o g y, Legal, Mathematics, Engineering in the profession. It requires a cyclical process of discernment, decision and evaluation and having to put on both quantitative and qualitative lenses. In HR, one must embrace the core values, have the highest work ethics and must abandon personal ego to create a win-win scenario always. Having said all these, the thing that frustrates me is I know I am imperfect working in an imperfect system. To face that reality everyday is frustrating. However, trying, even just trying to improve it and persistently work to overcome it is rewarding.

I recently coached a Supervisor in my department, “if you are HR, you either show up with a good face and a vibrant disposition or you do not show up at all.” So that’s my answer to the question.

When do you feel rewarded?

Do you have favorite employees?

When trust is established. When it is maintained and when though it is challenged, it is upheld.

Hahaha! I have developed deeper relationships with some but I love all employees. When I say love, I mean I will not hurt them intentionally.

What is the hardest part of your job? Transparency and Privacy are both proxies to trust. To know when to do one and not the other is very hard.

What do you strive for everyday at work?

To always think, feel, look and do good. To always act in good faith. Because that is the only way I can look at employees and the owners straight in the eye.

PMC CONNECT

I do not have favorites but there are employees to whom I feel responsible even with their personal lives.

We know you to be a strong woman at work, but when are you most vulnerable? When employees go. Every resignation, whatever the cause may be has a way of breaking my heart. I took resignation personally. Also with HR people and all Leaders. I am most vulnerable to them. They have the highest potential to hurt me because a big part of me is invested in them.

What is the best part of your job? I am convinced that I am here in Power Mac Center, at this time with this role for a purpose. That I am not working for men but working for the Lord Jesus, the Ultimate Boss who deserves my best.

The Buck Stops Here.

SHARED INSPIRATION The Best Part of My Job The best part of my job is getting to know the latest products from Apple and I'm happy to work with my colleagues. MAY DENN SY | Inventory Analyst, SM Marikina

As an Asst. Logistics Analyst, aside from encoding the data of our Branch-to-Branch transactions, I also do the delivery dispatch and handle some of the Logistics Support Requests or LSRF. And as a member of the support group, it is fulfilling whenever our team would accomplish a department’s requests, even though sometimes there are some conflicts on our delivery schedules. The best part of it is our team still manages to meet and attend to everyone’s needs. NIÑO BOLIVAR | Logistics Staff, WHL

The best part of my job is how I can connect with people; by helping them do a certain task and to obtain one goal: SUCCESS. I also love to know people beyond their work - to know their story, to connect with them and to witness their eagerness to succeed. It really makes me proud and satisfied that my work not only contributes to the company's success but also enables me to meet, know and connect with my fellow talents. SARAH KAEY ANDAL | Senior Field Coordinator, Marketing

The best part of my job is to have the opportunity to use my creativity and see the results of my hard work. My job is challenging because of the monthly target, but rewarding once you’ve achieved it. There is an opportunity to grow. They allow you to work at your own pace, with guidance to do things in a timely manner. My coworkers are awesome. It is a great environment, good people with shared value-system. Our boss gives us the flexibility and support to solve problems. You know what I love most about my job, despite the busy schedules and countless meetings, I can say I still have life. MARK MALLO | Account Executive, CBG

The best part of my job is when I can show confidence whenever I need to deliver bad news to employees. Before, I was scared to talk to them because I am unsure if my words are appropriate or prudent enough. One thing is for sure, it’s pretty hard to break a bad news to people. But with the right heart and amount of concern and care, I was able to face my fears. I realized that I have to be firm yet cool, confident yet humble. I can say that this is the best part of my job because I gain respect and commitment from people. I can give them advice, suggestions, and even comfort them. RITA REYNOSO | Legal Admin Assistant, HROD

The best part of my job is working with highly dedicated staff and colleagues. I also enjoy training them as well as mentoring them and providing support to deliver the best services to our customers. I also take pride in being part of a globally dynamic and service and customeroriented organization like PMC. Working in a supportive, fun, and innovative environment is very motivating for me. It inspires me to always give my best at work and I look forward to serving our clients with a smile. ROMMEL SOLLANO | PSTS

The best part of my job would be the environment. It is important that you work in a stress-free and non-toxic working environment. This would lead to increased productivity. Why? Because they would feel happy and proud to go to work. Grateful that I am part of a company that values the importance of having a healthy working environment.

I LOVE MY WORK because of my TEAM. I have the freedom to express myself - to laugh when I need to destress, to speak and actually be heard, and to perform not just because I’m paid to do it but because I’m inspired to be the best. They taught me to be more COMMITTED, COMPASSIONATE and COMPETENT! And I am proud to say that they are the BEST PART of my JOB!

EMPLOYEE EXTRAVAGANZA LEARNING SUMMIT

Life’s Laws Mitch Canizares, AASP The Employee Extravaganza was a tremendous success. I am honored to have been given the privilege to experience the Learning Summit. I believe that this will help us not only in our chosen career, but in life in general. What impacted me the most was the discussion about Life Laws. When enumerated as is, it sounds so simple. But it applies greatly on all aspects of life. Mastery of your craft is a very basic necessity when it applies to one’s work. The only way to be great is to hone yourself with the skills you’ve learned. But I believe that learning is an endless process. People need to be teachable in order to teach. As it is with leading. You have to learn to be a good follower before becoming a truly exceptional leader.

Pastor Ricky Sarthou

It’s not enough to master your skills. You need to have a goal as to where you need and want to go. Skills do not matter if you only wander aimlessly through life. It doesn’t matter how good you are at one thing. You have to be able to direct your skills to a purpose. Personal mastery has been part of my life in PMC, and it has significantly influenced how I work and interact with others everyday. My personal mindset is always CHARACTER OVER SKILL. It doesn’t matter how talented and skillful a person is. If character fails, it all fails. Integrity will always get the best of everything. I always keep in mind to “Stand up for what is right, even if you are standing alone.” I have made it my personal goal to make more leaders. My time with PMC has been favorable, and I want to be able to share the same experience with others. With all the trainings, coaching sessions, and seminars we were fortunate to be part of, we have been equipped to create and develop more high potential and high performing talents. I don’t intend to waste the opportunity I was given. I can only focus on my mission to mold people with more rooted character so they can do the same to others. PMC CONNECT

“You have to be able to direct your skills to a purpose.”

Greater Focus Louella Labutong PBSI The PMC Employee Extravaganza is not just an ordinary employee expo, but a fun, enriching and meaningful one. I considered it one of the many blessings to me this year. Aside from winning the raffle, bringing home the 2nd place award in the Festive Value Booth, attending the Learning Sessions and listening to these influencers made me realize some points in life and career.

Randell Tiongson

My takeaway revolved around the word “Focus”. It is the ability to stay concentrated or having a clear vision of what you’re doing or where you’re headed to. Take root! Develop your abilities and good character. Being a good root not only to yourself, but also to the company you work with can make a strong tree. You cannot be envious with what others have, having ideal traits of a good employee begin with you. Focusing on what you have right now is the best way to start achieving your goals.

Manolet Siojo

Focus on your values! Each person or company treasures values. Absence of this would lead to a life or organization disarray. Always remember what drives you to live and work. Be mindful of the time! As they say, “tell the time where it should go, not where it went”. Set your mind on things that are worthy and don’t focus on how hard things are. Jonathan Yabut

Time Well Spent Kim Lee IT

Dodong Cacanando

Early this year, I had a reassessment of my life and the trajectory that I desired. The cool kids these days call it a “New Year’s Resolution”. The highlight of my realization was about my usage of time. Jonathan Yabut did well reminding me of that. It is one of the greatest currencies that is overlooked and underrated. Where do you use it? What do you do with your spare time? How much time do you spend chasing your hopes and dreams? Admittedly, I have yet to reach the level of dedication that Jonathan Yabut had put in for his “The Apprentice run”. But I know that to reach my ideals, I have to put the work in. Believe me when I say, I did not have things easy, but I had grit. I had dedication to turn my life around, and be the best version of myself. I have yet to reach my goal, but with an everyday challenge to be a better person, one day, the dream will be a reality. And then I can dream again. ISSUE V | page 9

DEPARTMENT VALUE BOOTH

TEAM RBG Tattoos represent the amount of hardships, learnings and experiences of our Sales team. These embellishments symbolise our unwavering efforts to provide impressive numbers and excellent customer service. Elaine Elaurza, Booth Presentor

TEAM IT, OCTOPUS & INDEX 94 The parol has been a traditional Christmas ornament that is a symbol that Jesus our Savior was born. This traditional symbol has also been innovated to modern design, much like the presence of the IT, Index 94, and Octopus Philippines in PMC which symbolizes that we have adapted to modern times while keeping our traditional customer service. Kim Lee, Booth Presentor

TEAM AASP We serve with the sincerest of smiles. Like the masks around our booth, we put on our best “customer-service face” everyday to ensure that we provide the best quality of service possible. We serve, smile, repeat. Mitch Cañizares, Team Representative PMC CONNECT

TEAM ADMIN

& CORP SERVICES Kadayawan means good, valuable, superior or beautiful. The festival is a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living. It is held every third week of August, coinciding with Power Mac Center’s Anniversary. Like what our dear CEO mentioned, Fiestas are a celebration of God’s sovereignty. With this, we would like to celebrate this milestone with the whole PMC family most especially when we ventured towards our first provincial foray in Mindanao way back 2011. When we took the big leap, it reaped dividends. Mark Kua, Booth Presentator

TEAM MKTG & PMD Filipinos love celebrations, and no doubt the most anticipated dish of all time is the roasted pig, or what we call “Lechon.” Its crispy skin, tasty meat plus the delicious sauce make it just irresistible! "Lechon Festival” is being held every 24th of June in Balayan, Batangas where roasted pigs are being dressed and parade according to the preferred theme of the community for the year. In our booth we had the following themes: “mermaid”, “bride”, “rockstar”, and even an “angel” lechon. But to top all our guest lechons, we had a real and freshly-roasted lechon that we happily shared with the entire PMC family! Krisel Loreto, Booth Presentator

TEAM PBSI & WHL Pahiyas Festival is celebrated every 15th of May in Quezon province. It is a form of thanksgiving for bountiful harvest and in honor of the Patron Saint of the Farmers, San Isidro de Labrador. We wanted to show how PBSI and Warehouse and Logistics worked together to be able to achieve the beautifully designed booth through stories of collaboration, brainstorming of ideas and excellence in leadership. Similarly, the festival yearly displays their bountiful design through the same values. Louella Labutong, Booth Presentator PMC CONNECT

TEAM FINANCE Why Coconut Festival? We chose coconut festival because coconut embodies the theme of our department #whereeverybodycounts. We know that coconut is called the “Tree of Life” because of the usefulness of all its parts from roots to leaves. Similar to all members of the department, everybody works hard to serve their purpose. Trivia: When Zen told me that we have to present something about our booth, a small voice from God told me that since the theme is Philippine Fiestas I should present in a Filipiniana and create a presentation through a poem in Tagalog. Indeed if you heed His instructions He will give you victory. Sheila Oraye, Booth Presentator

MTP GRADUATION

A time for searching potential leaders from hundreds of employees from Retail Business Group in Power Mac Center has always been an exciting employee engagement event for the company. Management Training Program is one of the venues to mold, train and develop high potential and high performing employees who have been carefully selected by the leaders of our organization. After months of extensive trainings and brainwrecking activities, the day that I have been waiting for has finally arrived. Last 25th of May 2018, Power Mac Center held an Employee Extravaganza where employees were gathered to experience the different Filipino fiestas, learn from reputable industry experts and witness the graduation of MTP Batch 8.

Being chosen to be part of the MTP is one thing but being announced as the top notcher among excellent trainees is a great achievement. It was an overwhelming feeling when I took a moment and remember my journey— all the efforts, struggles and sleepless nights have finally paid off as I walked up to the stage and received my award. It was my proudest moment. I cannot contain my happiness seeing how proud my superiors are for me. Words are not enough to express my gratitude to the owners, facilitators, mentors, batch mates and to everyone who became part of my MTP story. As I always say to myself. AIM HIGH AND HIT THE MARK.
