THE BUCK STOPS HERE by Leah A. Cervantes
TRANSFORMATION IS ALL ABOUT EMBRACING A CULTURE OF INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY Innovation is the backbone of every successful company. Transformation or embracing change is developing a culture of innovation and creativity. But thinking creatively does not always come easy. For leaders, getting our staff to think creatively is not always easy. In a survey conducted by Robert Half, 35% of CEOs said the greatest roadblock to organizational breakthroughs is the lack of innovative ideas, 24% because of excessive bureaucracy and 20% being bogged down by daily tasks or putting out fires. Cultures that value and support innovation do not just happen. They are created by design through communication, meaning, purpose, inspiration, feedback, recognition and consistency. Ultimately, it is the organization’s executive and midlevel leadership that will determine and set the tone for the level of initiative and involvement employees take in supporting a culture of innovation. So let me share with you leaders how we can foster innovation in our team. I borrowed some of Robert Half’s recommendations in overcoming barriers and encouraging innovation in your team.

1)
GIVE EMPLOYEES A REASON TO CARE
Paint them the vision. Show them the big picture. Give them the reason to be innovative. Make sure you keep your team in the loop on the company’s strategies and challenges and invite their inputs. People support what they help create. Employees active participation will fuel more ideas than if they learn the initiatives second-hand. 2) EMPOWER EMPLOYEES TO MAKE DECISIONS & TAKE ACTION When we trust our people to take calculated risks and attempt new ways of doing things, we give them the opportunity to discover business solutions. Allowing them to take risks is allowing them to breakthrough. 3) DON’T MAKE STAFF JUMP THROUGH HOOPS It is not always easy for employees to offer new ideas. Keep your organization open as much as possible. Let employees know that their ideas are valued and keep discussion two-way. Make use of the latest digital communication tool, engage in brainstorming and implement even the old-fashioned suggestion box to solicit input. 4) REVIEW INTERNAL PROCESSES Consider which internal processes in your team is stifling innovation. Look for ways to streamline process so employees can see their good ideas in action quickly. 5) CALM THE NAYSAYERS Key reason why people often hesitate to offer fresh ideas is because they worry what others might say. Leaders, make sure you are doing all you can to make brainstorming sessions safe. Also, not all employees are comfortable speaking up. Offer always the option that they can write you their proposals. 6) EASE UP THE LOAD Employees are less likely to make notable contributions or offer innovative or creative ideas if they are bombarded with completing basic tasks and assignments. When people feel overworked, their last priority is to be creative. 7) SET EXAMPLE As a leader, you are the model. If you are not being creative, you cannot expect creativity or innovation from your team. So now let me speak to all of us, employees of the company: 1) Keep those ideas coming 2) Engage in creative thinking – “get bored with sameness” 3) Dare – there are less breakthroughs on known paths. The Buck Stops Here.

PMC MILES I would like to take this opportunity to thank Engineers Aaron Litao and Jonreb Abelong. Their immediate assistance helped me determine the root cause of my device’s issue and was able to address the concern in a timely manner. Their courtesy and prompt action also helped me save a lot of time. Honestly, this was the first time that I had to send a faulty device to a Service Center. Despite the "talks" about how stressful it will be, I was amazed by their customer service. Vote of thanks also to the CSO who assisted me, Gladys Sicat. She was very patient and professional in handling my concern. I've observed how each customer’s concerns were handled flawlessly. I didn’t mind waiting in line because I understood how everything works. - AASP Megamall Client
I would like you to know that I received excellent assistance from MAC Expert Alberto D. Genova. He spent the necessary time to troubleshoot a problem with my Mac Book that other technicians had not been able to fix. Then, in addition, he sold me two Apple iPhones and programmed them for me. He is a credit to your organization and the reason that I have been a long time Power Mac Center customer. - RBG MOA Client

PRESENTATION
CONTENT Content must follow the rule of 3:

Tell a STORY! If you package your facts into a story, your audience is 20 times more likely to remember what you said. They may even re-tell it! Keep your content simple and direct. Your slide should have more than

lines per slide
5
Using more than 3 ideas overcomplicates your message!
words per line
SECOND:
DESIGN LESS IS MORE! Use one image per slide. Using a picture and simple text doubles your audience recall up to 95%. WATCH OUT FOR THE FONTS USED! Fonts that are too small or too big will hinder reading. Find the right balance and stick to it. Be limited with your highlighted words.
THIRD:
FOLLOW THE 10|20|30 RULE! 10 slides for 20 minutes, 30 point font or larger
DELIVERY Avoid reading too much of your slides. Differ the content you deliver verbally and onscreen so people won’t get bored listening. 90% of communication is non-verbal. Your body can create a sense of energy and confidence. Make eye contact. And remember, if you’re not too excited about your content, you shouldn’t be surprised that the audience isn’t either. Relax! When you’re comfortable, your audience will be comfortable too. Move around. Not only is it engaging, but it also increases the flow of oxygen to your brain improving cognition.
ALWAYS REMEMBER! Practice Makes Perfect! The more you are comfortable with your content, the better your presentation will turn out! Issue III | Page 21
