Dear Princess Owner/Enthusiast Welcome to the 10th edition of My Princess, the official magazine for Princess Motor Yacht Sales and our dealer partners from across Europe. In this edition, we are delighted to tell you about our two new models - the stunning Princess 75 Motor Yacht and the Princess 49. The Princess 75 Motor Yacht will be making her debut on the world stage at the London Boat Show, ExCel in January – a perfect combination of agile cruising and open plan elegance. The Princess 49 will be launched in 2016. She is the first Princess flybridge model with IPS drive – an impressive development for a yacht of this length and one we are all very excited about. 2015 has been an exceptionally busy year for us. On top of a strong sales performance, the business has been working hard on developing other areas of its operations, ensuring Princess owners, now and in the future, can enjoy the benefits of one of the most reliable and comprehensive aftercare services available. This is something that is extremely important to us, and it is what sets Princess apart from many of its competitors. From the introduction of a yacht concierge service on the island of Mallorca, to the opening of our dedicated facility based in Turnchapel, Plymouth, the progress we have made in just a short time has been phenomenal. Looking back, 2015 has been a year we are extremely proud of, and we hope you will join us in looking forward to an equally exciting 2016.

T

he eagerly anticipated Princess 75 Motor Yacht has arrived! This elegant addition to the Motor Yacht range offers efficient, agile cruising combined with a spacious interior and dynamic new exterior styling. The modified deep V-hull enables planing at lower speeds, and with a choice of three engines, she can reach speeds of up to 36 knots with twin MAN V12 1800.

Forward on the lower deck, all three guest cabins are en-suite. The owner’s stateroom features a dressing area, en-suite and a 46″ television with entertainment system. Access to the owner’s stateroom is via a private staircase and lobby area – a neat feature for additional privacy.

The deck layout is perfect for both relaxing and entertaining with ample options available, including walkthrough foredeck with U-shaped seating and a sunbathing area. L-shaped seating either side of the upper helm means she’s also sociable while underway. In addition to panoramic views from the flybridge, the U-shaped seating with dining table, aft sunpad and wetbar offer further space in which to relax and unwind. There is also plenty of room to fit a crane and store a tender, or even a spa bath. Natural light flows through the main deck via the extended window lines and a unique full-height window on the port side means that the free-standing dining area is a spectacular place to entertain. The galley is separated from the airy open-plan living space by sliding glass panels, keeping chef in touch with guests. The stunning contemporary design of the saloon opens out to a well-equipped cockpit via flush sliding patio doors to provide an incredibly spacious area for entertaining.

Crew enjoy natural light through the glazing at the stern in the comfortable twin cabin and there is also an option for an additional berth should it be required.

LONDON BOAT SHOW 8-17TH JANUARY 2016

P

rincess is all set to exhibit at the London Boat Show 2016. The show will be held at ExCel London from 8th – 17th January 2016, and with more than 100,000 visitors expected and three show debuts from Princess, this show promises to brighten the winter gloom for anyone who loves to spend their time around yachts.

If you missed her in Cannes, the London Boat Show offers the first opportunity for UK visitors to view Project 31 ‘at home’. She is the original Princess. She was painstakingly restored for Princess’ 50th anniversary celebrations, and is a fascinating showcase of Princess craftsmanship, juxtaposing old and new in one beautifully remodelled yacht.

During the show, we will be featuring ten of Princess’ current models, including the recently launched V58 Open and S65, following their successful global debuts at the Southampton Boat Show last autumn. As if two brand new models at one show was not quite enough, the all-new Princess 75 is bound to be one of the show’s main attractions as she makes her global debut, revealing new exterior styling and a bright, ultra-modern interior design.

From our impressive vantage point at the show, visitors will be able to view a breath-taking range of yachts and experience first-hand the style, the performance and the quality for which Princess has become renowned.

Among the other yachts in the London line-up, we will be featuring two of our most popular models – the Princess V39 and Princess V48. To complete the 2016 line-up – a five star collection of flybridge models – the Princess 68 (last year’s debutante), the Princess 60, Princess 56, Princess 52 and Princess 43 offer unrivalled scope for customers seeking a yacht between 40ft and 70ft.

GERMANY

BOOT DUSSELDORF 23RD - 31ST JANUARY 2016

I

t may well be cold and damp in North Germany during the winter months, but it’s likely that Boot Dusseldorf, held from 23rd – 31st January 2016, will bring with it the warmth and sunshine of warmer climes when the region’s marine enthusiasts flock to the region to enjoy what has been hailed as the world’s largest watersports fair. Amongst an immense range of more than 1550 sailing boats, yachts, and increasingly high tech marine equipment and accessories across 17 halls, Princess is all set to impress. At the very centre of a nine boat line-up – that includes Project 31 – the very latest Princess 30M heads up an allstar cast. At 100ft, she is a brand new addition to the M Class range, offering peerless design, effortless long-range passage making and bold, contemporary interior design - a yacht that stretches the boundaries in hydro-dynamic design, space and comfort. Alongside, and in sharp relief, the Princess S65. Also enjoying her show debut, she follows the much acclaimed S72 as the second of the Princess S Class range – a

smart combination of sports yacht and flybridge model – offering the best of both worlds, with some light modern touches that are simply breath-taking. The V48 Open offers all the quality hallmarks of her larger cousins, yet condensed into a sports style that delivers surprising levels of comfort and space, as well as speed over the water. And with upwards of 38 knots at your fingertips, you can be sure of an exhilarating ride. Finally, from the flybridge range, and representing either end of the size spectrum, the Princess 82 Motor Yacht, and the Princess 43. Both combine expansive outdoor space with an indoor living area, where guests can relax in the comfort of their own en-suite cabin, or enjoy the superbly appointed saloon with its ever-changing wraparound views. Boot Dusseldorf will be open daily from 10am – 6pm. If you would like to arrange an appointment to view any of the yachts in our showcase, please contact us on +44 (0)1489 557755 or email us at sales@princess.co.uk.

PRINCESS OWNER

ANDREW ALLAN

PRINCESS 52 CALA D’OR

MALLORCA

“The galley aft arrangement works really well in the Med where you spend most of the day on deck” 16 | MyPrincess

A

ndrew Allan would always end up on some harbour quayside during family holidays admiring boats that he thought he would never be able to afford. But that dream became reality when he sold his business and chartered a Fairline Phantom 50 for a week in Mallorca - holidays would never be the same again. In 2015, Andrew became the owner of a brand new Princess 52 courtesy of boats.co.uk - Princess Motor Yacht Sales’ dealer partner on the island of Mallorca. Situated on the Southeastern side of the island of Mallorca, Marina de Cala d’Or (translated Golden Cove) offered the perfect location for the new boat. Not pretentious, friendly with great facilities and waterside restaurants and vibrant bars, the marina provided the perfect family environment. With white sand and crystal clear blue turquoise water, Cala is just a short cruise from the marina, there is no shortage of idyllic places to anchor up for the day and relax. And for exploring further afield, the islands of Cabrera, Menorca and Ibiza are all within easy reach.

Living just twenty minutes from Gatwick airport with regular flights to Palma, the journey for the Allan family is not onerous. “The flight is two hours, we only ever take hand luggage and after collecting the hire car we are on the boat ninety minutes after landing at Palma airport. We visit around eight weeks a year between late May and October although this will become more frequent now the children have flown the nest”. When Andrew decided it was time to buy a new boat, he was attracted to Princess by the evolved styling of the latest models. “I particularly dislike the modern angular designs of some brands but the styling and detail of the new Princess models has come on leaps and bounds in recent years” commented Andrew. “The galley aft arrangement works really well in the Med where you spend most of the day on deck leaving the lower level for dedicated sleeping accommodation”. The new Princess 52 arrived in Cala d’or on the 1st August.

So what does the Princess 52 offer over the previous boat and what features stand out? “There are so many.....where do I start?” enthused Andrew. “In addition to the aft galley layout, the extra volume and feeling of space that the latest Princess design and production techniques deliver is amazing. The master stateroom is luxurious with full standing headroom throughout, the sound insulation creates a feeling of real comfort and quality and the boat is a dream to handle both at sea and in the confines of the marina. The smooth controls and hold functions of the bow and stern thrusters make stern to berthing much easier”. Princess Motor Yacht sales will be opening a brand new sales office in Cala D’Or in April, giving owners like Andrew, the opportunity to buy and berth their yachts in this beautiful marina. 5 REASONS TO

BOOK YOUR CHARTER EARLY Last summer the Yacht Charter industry saw unprecedented levels of demand. As a result, yachts for charter of all sizes were in short supply, increasing prices - in some cases over and above the original asking price - simply to secure the yacht of choice. With growing demand expected in 2016 for yachts between 70 to 130ft, booking early is highly recommended. HERE’S WHY:

1. Wider range of dates to choose from – even in high season. 2. Greater selection of yachts. Remember the best yachts often get booked first! 3. Book your favourite ports (St Tropez, Portofino, Monaco, Porto Cervo, Bonifacio - some of the most popular – are often fully booked for the season as early as June). 4. Benefit from the weak Euro and pay your charter in full at a low exchange rate. The Euro lost about 20% of its value against Sterling and 25% against the US Dollar in just a year. Almost a full APA gained in value! 5. Owners are receptive to improved terms for early bookings (allowing them to plan their own use in advance).

NEWS

Princess Brokerage International Appointed Joint Central Agent for 40M Solaris. Princess Brokerage International is delighted to announce its recent appointment as joint Central Agent in the sale of this magnificent flagship from Princess. Winner of the prestigious 2013 World Superyacht Awards, and finalist for 2015, the tri-deck 40M epitomises the absolute peak of quality, luxury, performance and space. From the high-tech resin infused construction to his ‘n’ hers en-suites, to the master cabin – this is the ultimate state of Princess’ art. As you would expect, the accommodation on board “Solaris” is sumptuous throughout, with a five cabin layout allowing up to 12 guests to live aboard in complete luxury. There is also space for seven crew to live comfortably and in complete privacy. The quality of this magnificent Princess is evident throughout the yacht. Sound and vibration is minimised and the resin infused hull means the yacht is much lighter than one would expect for a boat of this magnitude. Power comes from twin MTUs giving a top speed of 23 knots. Cruising speed is around 12 to 14 knots, which gives a range of 1,500 miles at cruising speed. ‘Solaris’ is the 3rd stunning Princess 40M to be built, so we were particularly pleased to have been selected, alongside Burgess Yachts, as the appointed broker for this flagship of the Princess M Class.

Princess Motor Yacht Sales appointed official distributor of Chris Craft in the Balearics

T

he Sarasota based boat manufacturer, with a long heritage spanning more than 141 years, has chosen to partner with Princess Motor Yacht Sales based on its experience and success as a distributor on the islands. Chris Craft Balearics offer a full range of new and pre-owned Chris Craft motor yachts, cruisers, launches and bow riders from 22ft to 36ft to customers on the islands of Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza. Explains Commercial Director Max Whale; “We have been operational with Princess in the Balearics over many years. Over this time, we have come to understand the market extremely well, and we are well known in the islands, especially for our levels of service and aftercare. “The decision to work alongside Chris Craft seemed a logical next step. The partnership will extend our reach. We already know many of the yacht enthusiasts in the area from 39ft and upwards, but working with Chris Craft will introduce us to an entirely new market, letting us engage with many

of those living and working in the Balearics – those who want to enjoy the thrill and majesty of beautiful blue waters, but with smaller craft. “The craftsmanship in Chris Craft is exceptional, so we felt that the range would perfectly compliment Princess, especially in terms of the high expectations of our customer base and the quality and finish of the product. There are many synergies between the two brands, not least of which is a long heritage of boat building so we are very excited to have been appointed and are looking forward to the challenge!” Operations commenced fully from November this year, with the launch of a new website, service centre and sales office, based initially in Puerto Portals, Mallorca, but with plans to quickly extend across the region via a network of dealer partners.

“The craftsmanship in Chris Craft is exceptional, so we felt that the range would fit well alongside Princess”

The team from Chris Craft Balearics will make its first boat show appearance at the Dusseldorf Boat Show from 23rd to 31st January 2016.

If you are planning to enjoy your boating experiences in the Balearics, and would like to see more of the Chris Craft range visit our website at www.chriscraftbalearics.com

EXPAND YOUR VISION AND TAKE IN THE OVERVIEW OF THIS MAGNIFICENT YACHT

S

uccess, it is often said, is the sum of the details. I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but either way, there is plenty of it aboard the Princess 72. Even at the most macro level, the attention to detail is stunning. Take just one tiny area – the galley bar – and examine it. The flawless rich brown leather panelling on the front that precisely matches the stitched leather wrap of the stainless steel handrail, itself gently backlit by the concealed ambient lighting beneath the highly polished high quality granite/quartz worktop. In just this one tiny area the detailing, from the aesthetic to the quality of the materials to the pleasing design, come together to create something genuinely special. And it is absolutely everywhere. The slim polished fillets of wood in the backs of the lower helm seats, the specially shaped cut-outs in the galley drawer to gently but firmly hold your crockery in place, the gorgeous Samuel & Heath faucets on Perrin & Rowe basins in the bathrooms. Be it practical or merely cosmetic, each individual element subtly contributes to the sensory delight that is the cohesive whole. But phenomenally good though the detailing is – it’s when you expand your vision and take in the overview of this magnificent yacht that it really impresses. Because fundamentally, as a yacht and as a home away from home, it just works so very well. Whilst this is a vessel that can certainly be crewed should you wish (courtesy of the standard fit separate two berth en suite crew

cabin beneath the cockpit), it has a layout that lends itself well to owner operation. That exquisite galley for example, is directly opposite the eight seater dining area on the level main deck – perfect for entertaining and socialising, working just as well as a bar as it does for full culinary duties. Further aft, the opulent seating of the saloon links to the expansive cockpit, sliding glass doors melding these two areas into one.

The hydraulic bathing platform becomes the ultimate beach for everything from ankle deep paddling to launching a scuba diving expedition That feeling of easy space applies equally to the lower deck. Four cabins accommodate you and your friends or family in sumptuous surroundings – indeed those enjoying the en suite VIP cabin with its floor to ceiling wardrobes and dressing table might well believe that they’ve accidentally misappropriated the master cabin. It’s up to you whether you enlighten them, because one look at the full beam master situated in the centre of the vessel leaves no doubt as to where the epicentre of luxury really is. With acres of level floor space, its own dressing area, a sofa, a safe, a

built in 46 inch flatscreen and a frankly breath-taking bathroom, this is lavish living. It’s the same story out on deck. Split into four distinct zones, the hydraulic bathing platform becomes the ultimate beach for everything from ankle deep paddling to launching a scuba diving expedition. The aft cockpit offers sheltered alfresco eating beneath the shade of the flybridge overhang, or make your way forward

across the two V12 engines). Bow and stern thrusters make light work of easing this leviathan free of the confines of the marina – those mammoth diesel engines making yet lighter work still of easing it effortlessly onto the plane. Finally you begin to understand the final level of extreme detail less evident to the naked eye that goes into every aspect of this amazing high performance craft. Obsessive engineering results in

The instrument console rises ‘James Bond’ style at the touch of a button along the safe, wide, deeply bulwarked side decks to the foredeck cockpit with its cabin top sundeck and its forward facing sofa. Aloft, the flybridge offers yet more options with a well equipped bar serving a massive C-shaped seating area around a folding teak table and another large sunpad. But it’s the front of this area that finally gives you perhaps the greatest understanding of what this spectacular yacht is really all about. The instrument console rises ‘James Bond’ style at the touch of a button. Two further touches rumble the twin Caterpillar C32 A turbo diesel engines into life – each cylinder a whopping three litres in capacity (and there are twenty four of them spread

whisper quiet noise levels whilst the Bernard Olesinski designed deep vee hull parts the waves with imperialistic grace. In ‘synchro’ mode you control a combined output of over 3,000hp with one slim stainless steel throttle lever – dialling up twenty five knots at a mere 1,900rpm, up to a further ten knots still in hand to shorten voyage times or increase scope within a set time frame should you wish. We can’t promise you that success really is the sum of details, but unquestionably the care and vision that goes into every aspect of the Princess 72 results in a motor yacht that truly deserves to succeed.

TECH TALK

WITH CHRIS BAILEY

30 | MyPrincess

GETTING CONNECTED - RESIDENT EXPERT CHRIS BAILEY TALKS THROUGH SOME OF THE SOLUTIONS FOR THIS INCREASINGLY ESSENTIAL ASPECT OF LIFE ON BOARD. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a pyramid with the most fundamental human need – ‘physiological’ - (food, safety, warmth) at the bottom and then rising in five increasingly complex levels. For anyone under the age of about thirty there is now a sixth level of primary human need underpinning all of them – WiFi. And it isn’t much less important for the rest of us. And if you have kids you’ll already know that the ultimate punishment is no longer the traditional ‘grounding’ – they no longer leave the house anyway. Pulling the plug on the router has now become the nuclear deterrent. So if you don’t want a mutiny aboard ship you’d better make sure that you have strong and reliable internet access. It’s a subject close to the heart of Manager of Princess Individual Chris Bailey, who has spent nearly a decade refining yacht WiFi access almost into an art form. Chris, – my kids are revolting and I need WiFi – where do I start? On board WiFi has come a long way even within the last few years. As technology advances we’ve ensured that we are at the cutting edge of marine internet access and have recently teamed up with a company called Yacht Surfer, who offer some fantastic solutions. What’s so special about it? One of the big issues people have on installation is actually setting up Access Point Name (APN) – the gateway between a mobile phone system and the Internet. One of the key features of Yacht Surfer products is Auto Set Up. Basically you insert your dedicated mobile phone SIM card and the unit takes care of the rest. Plus, as it is a proper marine unit rather than a domestic one, it is powered via a 12 volt or 24 volt source so doesn’t require generator power or shore power. Can’t I just connect my devices directly to my marina WiFi Hot Spot? Absolutely you can. But bear in mind that many WiFi providers make a connection charge per device. On a typical boat it isn’t unusual to have half a dozen phones, several tablets and maybe a couple of laptops, all needing to be online. By connecting via an on board router you pay for a single connection that then feeds all the devices. And its increased range creates greater scope for finding a cheaper (or even free) connection. Brilliant, but what about when we’re away from port? That’s where the router’s 3G and 4G facility comes into its own. By connecting via the mobile phone system you can have WiFi where-ever there is a phone signal – and again, on a basic system

you’re only paying for a single connection no matter how many devices are connected – particularly important abroad where many providers charge heavily for data roaming. How many devices can connect to it? That depends on the usage. Five devices checking email occasionally require a lot less data than one device streaming high definition movies or TV for example. We can increase data capacity significantly if required though, using a system called a Sonic Surfer. This is a real game changer, as it allows up to five SIM cards to be connected in unison. The really clever thing is that rather than simply ‘load balancing’ where the load is shared across the cards, they all work to boost data traffic allowing much faster and heavier data transfer. What if I want to go further offshore? As you know, mobile phone coverage only extends a short distance out to sea. If you want to maintain connection during off shore passages then satellite communication will provide global access. Isn’t satellite data connection expensive? It’s not the cheapest – 3G or 4G mobile phone network is cheaper, and connecting to a WiFi hot spot less still, sometimes free. So what we can do is configure the router to source a Hot Spot as a priority, switch to the phone network if unavailable, and only switch to satellite as a last resort. Switching is seamless, so it doesn’t affect your connection. So with that set up we’ll have permanent WiFi coverage throughout the boat? That depends on the size of the boat. A Princess 43 would probably be fine with a single router, but once over fifty feet you need to start thinking about repeaters in order to avoid dead zones. On an 88ft Princess for example we’d normally recommend three units, and we hard wire them in to avoid wireless losses. Can you fit this to my existing boat? As well as being an option for new yacht customers we can certainly undertake to retrofit these systems to existing craft. It is a relatively non-invasive operation and is done to factory specification. Perfect. How long does it take and what does it cost? Each system is entirely bespoke dependent on individual requirements regarding size of boat, coverage required and typical data usage, and normally takes anything from a day to a week. We’re very happy to discuss the options and quote for supply and installation; so just give us a call and we’ll talk you through it.

Princess – Guernsey Cruise 31st July – 3rd August

A

fter the success of the recent cruise from Port Adriano to the Barcelona Grand Prix back in May, a second Princess flotilla successfully cruised into St Peter Port Guernsey to enjoy a fascinating weekend exploring the island and its rich maritime history. On Friday 31st July, the Princess party – a flotilla of yachts, set sail from the South Coast, crossing the English Channel in a text book four hour crossing, with not a breath of wind to ripple the waves. Following a welcome drinks party and just one or two glasses of bubbly at St Peter Port Marina, set against a vibrant backdrop of bars and restaurants, guests were able to look forward to a weekend of exploration and relaxation, hosted by the team from Princess Motor Yacht Sales. The itinerary for the weekend was relaxed. While some preferred to spend time aboard their yachts – enjoying the odd

Crossing the English Channel in a text book four hour crossing, with not a breath of wind to ripple the waves. glass of wine or soaking up the sun, other more intrepid explorers were able to take a tour of the island by bus or foot. One or two even chose an impromptu trip across the waters to the island of Herm, (some admittedly by ferry!) taking advantage of the beautiful weather and the still waters, to get the most from their visit. Saturday evening brought the group back together once again for a sociable evening – to savour a delicious ‘Surf n Turf’ Barbecue (hosted by the Guernsey Yacht Club) overlooking the rugged Guernsey Coastline and the magnificent Castle Cornet.

And it was Castle Cornet that was to be the final destination. The Castle has guarded the entrance to the harbour for more than 800 years, with a rich history that takes it through the sieges of the hundred years war, to the English Civil War and beyond. Offering breath-taking views towards the other Channel islands, guests of Princess were able to participate in a personal tour and final celebratory drink to toast the end of a successful voyage. We will shortly be inviting Princess owners to join in another local cruise. If you would like to join us, please ask to be added to our mailing list, by emailing sales@princess.co.uk. Your family deserves the best!

Perhaps the number one item on your option list to dramatically improve comfort and safety on board, is an active stabilization system. A good stabilization system allows for comfortable use of your boat when you otherwise would or at least should have stayed in port. Side-Power`s award winning Vector Fin™ stabilizers are the latest and most effective system on the market today. The revolutionary new design of the Vector Fin™ is taking fin stabilizers to a whole new level of efficiency and comfort, more effectively directing the forces to reduce roll, without other negative sideeffects such as yaw and sway as often associated with fin stabilizers on fast, lightweight boats. Unlike other technologies, the Vector Fins™ works just as well at any speed. Vector Fin™ benefits: • Unlike Gyros, efficiency increase with speed • Minimal to no increase in fuel consumption • Minimal to no loss of speed • Silent all night operation • Also suitable for retrofit

Up to 55% less side-effects**
