Welcome to the ninth edition of My Princess, the official magazine for Princess Motor Yacht Sale and her dealer partners from around Europe and the Mediterranean. In August 2015, it will be 50 years, since Marine Projects (now Princess Yachts International) was born, and the very first boat – Project 31 was built. In celebration of that fact, we have charted the progress of Princess over the years, with some of the key milestones along the way. It is truly fascinating to see how Princesses have developed from the early models of 1965, to the sleek, modern craft we recognise today. On that note, we are also pleased to update you on two brand new additions to the Princess range, both of which will be making their world launches at the Southampton Boat Show in September – the Princess S65 and the Princess V58 Open. As you will see, from these pages, Princess has always been progressive when it comes to innovation, so we are thrilled to be able to showcase both models ahead of their official launch. As Princess Motor Yacht Sales continues its drive to provide a first class service for yacht owners, we wanted to reflect this within the pages of My Princess. We have started the process by creating one or two informative articles about the care and enhancement of your yacht. It is a vital part of our business, so as a starting point we are introducing you to Retrofit Sales Manager Chris Bailey, who will be sharing with you some of his knowledge and expertise. PRINCESS V58 OPEN In the wake of the award-winning V48 Open we are pleased to unveil details of a new open main deck addition to the V Class range, the Princess V58 Open. Inspired design can be found in the raised pilot house, accessible from both the flybridge and lobby area, and continues with the ingeniously designed foredeck area, which incorporates an attractive and spacious seating and sun lounging area. Alongside the 35M, the Princess 52, Princess 56 and Princess 68 will also be on show. The Princess 82 Motor Yacht, V39 and V48 Open make up the line-up with a second show appearance from the sleek S72. ollowing the success of last year, Southampton beckons once again and we look forward to giving guests a very warm welcome to the show. With 12 models on display, the show promises a yachting feast for the enthusiast, as well as a fun family day out. Along the Princess pontoon, visitors will get their first glimpse of two brand new 2015 models, fresh from production. 50 YEARS OF PRINCESS THE KEY MODELS 1960s
PROJECT 31 Genesis for Princess Yachts – the story began in 1965 in a rented shed in Newport Street. Three men looking to enter the charter business but with a dearth of funding bought a hull and deck mould from Senior Marine and began fitting it out. The charter business never got off the ground but the completed boat sold quickly. Realising they could be on to something they decided to build another and Marine Projects, one of the most prolific boat building companies in Europe, was born. Available initially with twin Perkins four cylinder diesels, later boats sported Volvo Penta diesel engines – in all cases mated to sterndrive propulsion. Updated in 1969, the Project 31 became the very first Princess, the Princess 32. Successful from the very beginning, over 600 boats were built. The story began - Project 31
With the Princess 32 selling well and the range augmented by a smaller model (the Pilgrim 25 which became the Princess 25) it was time to begin the unstoppable drive up market. Designed by John Bennett and launched at the London Boat Show in 1974 it was one of the largest boats in the Earls Court exhibition hall and immediately set the tone for the direction of the company. It was one of the first Princess yachts to feature a flying bridge (as it was then known – now commonly shortened to ‘flybridge’). And it introduced shaft drive and an enclosed deck saloon for the first time on a Princess, and featured two cabins and two heads. Initially launched with Thornycroft and then Ford Mermaid 120hp diesels, demand for greater performance lead to a second hull profile, the original ‘Y’ hull sporting a small keel for low speed directional stability and a ‘V’ hull without the keel capable of supporting twin engines of up to 210hp.

1980s PRINCESS 30DS In 1980 Marine Projects was approached by a naval architect called Bernard Olesinski with plans for a thirty foot cruiser. With the successful but ageing Princess 32 due for replacement, the design was accepted and the Princess 30DS launched at Southampton Boat Show in 1980. DS stood for deck saloon, and the 30DS replaced the 32 in the range. Rather than the open backed wheelhouse of the 32, the 30DS had an enclosed deck saloon (hence the ‘DS’ of its nomenclature) with a sliding roof section, although there was a less popular open backed wheelhouse version called the 30S. Available with single or twin shaft drive or sterndrive engine installations the boat was built with everything from a single 60hp for river use up to twin 200hp diesels or 210hp petrols which lifted the top speed past 30 knots. A flybridge version was added in 1986, further broadening the options. Not only did the 30DS prove a worthy successor to the 32 over its decade in production, but the collaboration with Bernard Olesinski extended to the design of every Princess since. PRINCESS 45 By the early eighties the largest Princess yachts had barely passed forty feet, but Princess commissioned Bernard Olesinski to design a flagship mid forty foot flybridge yacht. When it was launched in 1982 it was the largest production motor yacht built in the UK and it propelled Marine Projects into the big league. The Princess 37 had had some export success in Northern Europe but the 45 opened up the Mediterranean, proving popular with UK buyers that boat abroad as well as attracting foreign custom. The initial build rate of one boat a month was quickly revised, the 45 selling at triple the anticipated rate. Not just a modern and spacious design, the 45 was a phenomenal sea boat,

widely lauded by the maritime press. At the time Managing Director David King reputedly stated that Princess 45 he thought the 45 would be the largest model Marine Projects would ever produce. Today the smallest flybridge Princess is slightly longer... LOA: 47ft 2in (14.38m) Built: 1982 – 1991 Typical engines: Twin Volvo Penta TAMD 71B 380hp diesel
With a successful range of flybridge and deck saloon models firmly established, the early eighties saw fresh markets sought, in particular the open cockpit sportscruiser sector, and in 1983 the 286 Riviera was launched. With its raked screen, flat foredeck and sporty GRP radar arch it was at the cutting edge of eighties sportscruiser design, but luxury and practicality had certainly not been forgotten. A massive eleven foot beam created plenty of space below decks for a generous dinette forward, an L-shaped galley opposite the heads and a separate mid cabin aft with a double berth that ran transversely beneath the cockpit. Motive power came via a range of twin petrol engines ranging up to V8 5.0 litre AQ211 motors delivering 210hp each for a top speed in excess of 35 knots. Twin diesel engines of 130hp and 200hp were also available. The 286 Riviera became the forerunner of a range of Princess Riviera cruisers that spanned twenty six to forty six feet. MyPrincess //11

PRINCESS V39/V40/V42 The nineties brought a brand new style to the Princess sportscruiser range. Out went sharp edges, stainless steel framed windscreens and bolt on bathing platforms – in were soft curves, high topsides, GRP screen frames, forward sloping radar arches and coloured hulls. The ‘Riviera’ tag was gone too, the new vogue marked by the simple designation ‘V’. First off the Olesinski drawing board was the V39. Unveiled in 1994 it looked sensational, but the big news – literally - was inside. Those high topsides created phenomenal internal volume – over six feet of headroom, two cabins and a huge heads proved beyond doubt that the days of compromised sportscruiser accommodation were over whilst a new breed of Volvo Penta KAD 42 diesel engines lifted the performance past thirty knots – neatly demonstrating that you could indeed have your proverbial cake and eat it. Mild facelifts took the V39 through V40 and V42 iterations that spanned fifteen years and 500 boats, making this the most popular vessel in Princess history. So far... PRINCESS 20M Whilst the V39 was taking the lower end of the market by storm, the inexorable rise upmarket continued unabated and in 1996 the very first ‘Metre’ yacht was announced. Distinctive oval saloon windows, a funnel style radar mast rather than the usual goalpost arch and ‘superyacht’ high gloss joinery marked the 20M out as something really special, even by Princess standards. Powered by twin MAN diesels of between 800hp and 1,360hp it was clear that performance had not been lost in the pursuit of luxury.

PRINCESS 42 The new millennium brought a new name for the business and Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd became Princess Yachts International Plc. But despite the change of name and the successful expansion into new markets the commitment to intrinsic values remained the same and in 2003 the Princess 42 was born. Able to trace its roots back to that first flybridge craft of thirty years earlier, the 42 was a two cabin two heads family flybridge cruiser with twin shaft drive diesels engines just like the Princess 37. But whilst the format might be familiar, the execution was very different. The first true production line assembly, the 42 was built in stages as the boat moved down a line, emerging at the rate of one a week. Styling was bang up to date too, being one of the first boats to feature flush glazing and a new style of sweptback radar arch whilst inside contemporary high gloss cherry woodwork surrounded the very latest innovations like the soft touch non reflective helm. PRINCESS V48 Nearly fifty years in and the multi award winning Princess V48 proves that the innovation and far sightedness that has stood the company in such good stead remains a core philosophy. IPS pod drives, resin infusion construction, a choice of superstructure and cockpit layouts (deck saloon and ‘Open’) and a full beam full headroom master cabin place the V48 at the very cutting edge of current technology and thinking.

What do you buy the man who has everything? A box to keep it all in. In this case the question was what do you get the company that has everything? At its half century Princess Yachts really does have everything. A world renowned reputation, a phenomenal product line and a dealer network that probes every corner of the globe. So to celebrate, it was decided that a trip back in time was called for, and the search began for an example of the very first model launched – the Project 31. A suitable candidate was found in the Channel Islands. Owned by an enthusiast that had realised she’d bitten off a little more than she could chew, the 1968 example was basically sound but in a very sorry state cosmetically and mechanically. A deal was done and Project 31@50 was go.
The historic surroundings of the South Yard facility was the perfect place to base the project and the boat was shipped back and located inside one of the stone buildings. The intention was to give the boat a complete renovation using modern techniques, but in a style very sympathetic to the original. Overseen by staff that were involved with the original build (long since retired of course) and aided by some of Princess Yachts latest apprentices the boat has been stripped right back to a bare shell. With the help of Volvo Penta UK and local dealer Marine Engineering (Looe) Ltd the two Volvo Penta diesel engines were removed, overhauled and shotblasted before being re-painted and re-installed plus the fuel tanks have been refurbished. On the outside the boat is being sanded, faired and re-painted in the period white and blue colour scheme. On board will be a clever blend of modern manufacturing and period style. The engine bay bulkhead and wooden cockpit floor turned out to be severely rotten and are being replaced by latest technology resin infused panels but then overlaid by traditional teak and holly flooring.
Inside, Princess Design Studio are working on a modern interpretation of the sixties interior so the boat will receive the latest high quality high gloss carpentry finish, including sapele wood, which will be used to ape the original woodwork. Likewise the saloon table will feature modern marquetry but in the original gingham design whilst upholstery will be contemporary fabric but in the original red colour scheme.

CAPTAIN’S ALMANAC Andy Forbes, Princess Motor Yacht Sales’ Yacht Captain
F
or Andy Forbes, Princess Motor Yacht Sales’ in-house Yacht Captain, being around boats has been a part of his life ever since he can remember - having cut his teeth at the tender age of 4, sailing Mirror dinghies alongside his three sisters. Over the years, he’s gradually honed his sailing skills, progressing to Olympic class yachts, and racing to great acclaim in competitions around the world. His biggest achievement – skippering BG Spirit to victory in the 2004-5 Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race – a seven leg race (dubbed “The World’s Toughest Yacht Race”) of 29000 nautical miles over 166 days. His transition from sailing boats to motor yachts began when, after arriving in the UK in 1993, and working in what he describes as a ‘real job’ in logistics management, he finally returned to the marine industry. First of all setting up his own business, maintaining yachts for some of the biggest names in the industry, and finally skippering for both charter clients and private yacht owners, where he was lucky enough to experience first-hand some of the most exclusive destinations in the world. It’s this vast experience in yachting, his pragmatic approach, and his extensive technical knowledge, that has made Andy such a great asset to the Princess Motor Yacht Sales team in Southampton where he’s now based. Yacht Captain is not a job for the faint-hearted. As Andy explains “To be successful, you need to be a serial multi-tasker. As skipper of a large yacht, like the Princess 98 for example, you are in control. Yes, you need to be able to handle the yacht, but you’ve also got to attend to the cleaning and maintenance, the crew, and most importantly, to the needs of the owner, to ensure their stay on-board goes as smoothly as possible. “A lot of the skipper’s work centres around preparation and about anticipating your owner’s needs in advance. If they want to go ashore to do some shopping, you have to have the tender prepared and ready to go, have a plan of where you are going to moor the yacht, and some suggestions ready for restaurants in the area, and other things they can do ashore.” When I’m with the owner, my working day starts at around 6.30 am. Before the guests are
up, I’m preparing the yacht for the day ahead, removing covers, opening all areas, checking the engines, generators and systems, as well as preparing for breakfast. The day can then change depending on the plans of the guest – and you have to be flexible. If there’s a party planned for the evening, you’ve got to be ready to cater. If guests want to find an anchorage, and have day of water sports ahead, you’ll need to know where you can take them, and have the toys and tender ready and waiting. There have been times when I’ve even had to prepare some fun and games for the kids.
YACHT CAPTAIN IS NOT A JOB FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED Andy’s role for Princess Motor Yacht Sales is no less varied. It draws on every ounce of his vast experience as a yacht captain. From taking the helm during a customer sea trial in Southampton, to managing the onward delivery of a new yacht, after its Post Delivery Inspection, from destination port to marina and that could be just about anywhere in the world! It’s a vital role that provides invaluable support for the team at Princess Motor Yacht Sales as well as Princess owners. They value the practical advice they are able to glean both from Princess’s technical team and from Andy. Every customer is offered a full day’s orientation including sea trial, learning about the technical aspects and upkeep of their yacht. “Maintaining a yacht is a full-time occupation. Even when not in use, the yacht needs regular maintenance to ensure it stays in perfect condition, so a yacht captain stays aboard year round, performing those routine maintenance tasks. It’s that practical knowledge - from performing it day in and day out, that I’m able to pass on.” Andy will be launching his own blog in the autumn. PRINCESS CHANNEL ISLANDS Princess forms a Strong Partnership in the Channel Islands. The Channel Islands offers one of the UK’s most versatile yachting destinations. Within reach of the coastlines of both England and France, (easily within a day’s sail) and with plenty of varied coastline to explore, and a variety of cultural experiences, the Islands have a lot to offer. During the summer months, the area comes alive, and there are cafes, restaurants and bars aplenty, even in the tiniest of places. Marinas are dotted all along the coastline, so well-placed to handle the needs of the yacht owner, and for peace and tranquillity there are many secluded beaches suitable for anchoring off – sheltered by headlands or surrounding islets. If that’s not enough, the coast of Britanny is just 14 miles away, so visitors can also take in a little French culture while exploring Brittany’s distinctive half-timbered buildings, quaint streets and vibrant local markets. At the heart of the Channel Islands yachting community and based at the Town Marina in St Helier, Jersey, is Princess Channel Islands. The dealership was formed in August 2014, a partnership, between Nick Rice and Miles Strong, the sole purpose of which was to bring Princess back home to the Channel Islands. For Miles it was a perfect fit to his business interests in Private Jets, Luxury Cars and his previous Superyacht and Marina management background. Nick himself has had 10 years’ experience with Princess in the Channel Islands so to Miles, it was a ‘no brainer’ choosing the Princess brand alongside Nick,
promoting the superior Princess designs, models and the quality to complement his existing luxury product base. To complete the all-round Princess Service, Service Technician Ben Dandridge manages all after-sales, warranty as well as client tuition for the dealership.

DAY 6: ST. BARTHS
St Barths is the most elite and expensive island in the Caribbean. It offers a variety of top class restaurants with only the best chefs serving gastronomic feasts. Spend the afternoon in the capital Gustavia to see its gingerbread cottages, dozens of chic boutiques, duty-free shops, galleries and an open-air market. On other side, the island offers stunning beaches and row upon row of beachside bars and cafes to relax in whilst listening to soft lounge music and sipping on rum punch.
DAY 7: ANGUILLA
The waters in Anguilla are very calm. It is the perfect place for snorkelling. There are seven marine parks across the island and of course, powdery white beaches. Anguilla is popular with its high end clientele - the owners of luxury yachts who appreciate its undeveloped surroundings and wild nature. The Chefs in Anguilla are award winning, so you are sure to experience sophisticated dining. Anchor overnight off Anguilla and leave early the next day to depart for St Maarten.
DAY 8: ST MAARTEN
St Maarten is a spicy marriage between Caribbean and European cultures. The island is half Dutch, half French. The French side exhibits the elegance, elaborate architecture, nice boutiques, and pristine beaches and the Dutch side is famous for its casinos, duty free shops and bursting night life. This is a great island to complete your charter, slowly easing your way back to the hustle and bustle of the 21st century.

GET YOUR PRINCESS WORKING FOR YOU If you have ever considered whether it’s worth making your yacht available for charter, here are some of the key facts and figures you might need to get you started.
WHY CHARTER?
Put simply - a yacht placed into charter management can attract a number of tax advantages that will help reduce the cost of the yacht, and with the income generated through charging others for its use, offset the overall cost of ownership.
WHAT ARE THE “OPERATING” COSTS?
The expenses are similar to those of private yacht ownership. The fixed costs – those that have to be paid whether or not you charter your yacht - include berthing, insurance, maintenance and crew. The variable costs might include additional crew (depending on the yacht size you might consider hiring additional crew: like a chef, or additional stewardess for high season), promotional or advertising costs. These would all be built in to the overall charter cost for the client and charged on.
WHAT WILL MY CHARTER INCOME BE?
A yacht owner typically receives around 80% of the gross charter fee. A yacht charter management company like Princess Charter should be able to achieve between 6-9 weeks of charter per year. The number of charter weeks tend to increase as the yacht continues to be marketed, and attracts further interest.
WHERE DO I START?
The key factor to successful yacht charter is efficient yacht charter management. You will need to appoint a central agent such as Princess Charter, to manage your yacht’s charters, who will act as an agent working between the clients, other brokers, you or your appointed representative and the crew. Your central agent will manage the yacht booking, marketing, promotions, and overall reputation of charter vessel.

Your agent will generally offer a charter marketing team, who are experienced in promoting yachts for charter through carefully chosen channels. WHERE IS THE BEST LOCATION TO KEEP MY YACHT TO ENSURE THE SUCCESSFUL CHARTER? West Mediterranean, especially the South of France and the Balearics, is considered to be one of the most glamorous and most popular charter areas. BOAT SHOW ROUND UP Princess Motor Yacht Sales has seen a busy start to the season with no less than 7 yachting events taking place over just six weeks. THE LONDON YACHT, JET AND PRESTIGE CAR SHOW, 8-10TH APRIL
2015 was the inaugural show, bringing together a variety of luxury brands to the Capital. Visitors to St Katharine Docks – the venue for the on-water show, were lucky enough to behold the unusual sight of three Princess Motor Yachts – all upwards of 72ft, moored in this usually quiet City marina.
THE INTERNATIONAL PALMA BOAT SHOW 30TH APRIL – 4TH MAY
The International Palma Boat Show is one of the key yachting events on the island, and this year saw more than 40,000 visitors attending – a rise of 14% on the previous year! The show has made a strong comeback after being cancelled three years ago, and with the addition of the Palma Superyacht Show, supported by MYBA, has seen a definite boost.
JERSEY BOAT SHOW 2ND – 4TH MAY
Princess Channel Islands was pleased to report a positive first outing. The team were showcasing a total of four Princess yachts over the course of this three day event; the V48 Open and Closed, the Princess V39 and the Princess 43. In spite of variable weather, the show, held in St Helier Marina, announced more than 24,000 visitors in attendance.
INTERNATIONAL ISTANBUL BOAT SHOW 6TH-10TH MAY
Organised by International Fair and Congress Organizations NTSR, the number of visitors attending exceeded 40,000! The show brought together the key players from the industry, whether they were exhibitors showcasing their new vessels, products, services or visitors – yacht owners or future buyers – enthusiastic and eager to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
BRITISH MOTOR YACHT SHOW 14TH – 17TH MAY
A collaboration between Princess, Fairline and Sunseeker, this boutique show, held annually at Swanwick Marinas, Southampton showcased more than 30 yachts in one location. In spite of an inauspicious opening day as the rain settled in, by weekend the sun finally emerged and this vibrant boutique show sprang to life.
BEST OF YACHTING ADRIANO 22ND – 24TH MAY
Now in its third year, the show is a collaboration between the marina and Princess Motor Yacht Sales. In 2015, there were more than 25 yachts on display, and a true party atmosphere for visitors and exhibitors alike! The show looks set to go from strength to strength.

STRATEGIC AGREEMENT WITH BOATS.CO.UK Formerly Essex Boat Yards
Princess Motor Yacht Sales has announced a strategic sales agreement that will help it increase its presence on the East Coast, Poole and in Mallorca. The agreement will see Boats. co.uk (formerly Essex Boat Yards) sell the Princess range of luxury yachts to customers across those regions. News of the partnership came a few days before the Palma Boat Show and brought together two family-run businesses that share the same commitment to excellent customer service. Under the arrangement, Boats.co.uk will operate as Princess East Coast, providing sales, part-exchange and aftercare support for potential clients in Poole and the East coast.
James Barke, Managing Director of the newly formed Princess East Coast, went on to add: “There is a real sense of excitement around the deal and we are looking forward to offering our clients access to the full Princess range, which allows our customers to choose boats in excess of 80 feet for the first time. PRINCESS MALLORCA LAUNCHES YACHT CONCIERGE SERVICE Princess Mallorca has launched a brand new Yacht Concierge Service for Princess owners berthing their yachts on the island. The concept has been introduced by Princess Mallorca’s new Aftersales Director Simon Birchall, in order to refine and develop its aftercare service.
relating to the equipment fitted within their yacht – and local service providers do not always have the knowledge of Princess. By having their own Concierge, an owner only has to make one phone call, and their Concierge will handle the rest on their behalf.”
The idea behind the Concierge Service is to provide owners with a single point of contact for all matters relating to the care and maintenance of their yacht. The main benefit – from the owner’s perspective - is that they have a single individual they can rely on consistently, and who can get to know both the owner and their yacht, and receive an even better service.
Each owner has been allocated the Princess technician best suited to their needs, by the type of yacht they own, experience, location, or even language. As Simon explains; “Some owners are German speaking, so we have allocated them a German speaking technician. When they need technical advice, they can get it quickly without having to translate.”
Says Simon “By their nature, yachts are complex. They have many different aspects that need to be maintained – from the engine itself, to the navigation equipment, right through to the audio visual equipment, plumbing, heating etc. Owners often don’t want the worry of having to deal with the different manufacturers, or various service agreements
The concierge service has meant that Princess owners can quickly access technical advice, or arrange for their yacht to be serviced or repaired in one easy call. The service was launched in July and if successful, could be extended to owners in other parts of the PMYS network.

hen Princess Motor Yacht Sales opened its brand new Turnchapel facility and wanted someone to head up its customisation service department there was only one logical choice. Son of Aftersales Manager Paul Bailey (himself with over thirty years of Princess experience), Chris Bailey began his career with Plymouth Marine Electronics dissecting Princess yacht interiors in order to install complex navigation systems. A spell as Retrofit Manager at the Princess Yachts International factory followed, after which Chris ran his own retrofit business specialising in Princess craft. He’s basically spent his whole career meticulously dismantling, customising and reassembling Princess yachts. Chris now heads up a five strong team in a role that could have been tailor made for him.
Your journey to the perfect boat, whether one you’re in the process of purchasing from Princess Motor Yacht Sales or the one you currently own, begins with a consultation at the Turnchapel premises. A tour of the facility is hugely reassuring. With dedicated workshops, spray booths, special areas for storing soft furnishings whilst your yacht is being administered to and even a crane on a track that can lift and transport dinghies from dock to workshop, it is immediately clear that your precious craft is in safe hands. A consultation in the customer board room follows so that Chris can understand your requirements and make suggestions based on his years of experience. A quotation is then forthcoming, following approval of which work is scheduled.

‘It’s not just about being able to take boats apart’ says Chris, ‘anyone can do that. The real skill is in doing it in such a way that no damage occurs, making whatever changes are desired absolutely to factory specification and then reassembling so that the finished result is indistinguishable from an original factory fit’. So what is it that the retrofit department actually does? ‘We support the sales team, working closely with them to help achieve the boat the customer wants. If it is a new stock boat or a used boat that is close to a customer’s requirements we can help fine tune the boat for a perfect fit. Whether the boat needs air conditioning fitted before being berthed in the Med, a navigation suite upgrade for a used boat or the customer just doesn’t like the curtains, we can make the required changes’. But it doesn’t stop there. Chris and his team will take on boats already in ownership and make whatever alterations or additions are required. ‘Within the bounds of what’s physically possible, the only limit is the customer’s imagination’ smiles Chris.
So what can they do? ‘What can’t we do?’ laughs Chris. ‘Want a redundant cabin converted into an office? We can do that. Upspec AV equipment, create an entire wifi network across the yacht, fit a generator, a passerelle, change the upholstery, fit teak decking, underwater lights, a backlit name, code for charter? No problem. We can stock the boat with engine spares, cutlery, crockery, bedding, cushions. We’ll not just fit a dinghy, we can even customise it to match your Princess yacht with matching upholstery, teak decking, hifi, etc. We can handle everything right up to and including preparing the boat for transport. We’ll even shrink wrap it. Basically we can take care of every last detail so that all you need to do is turn up, put the champagne in the fridge and go boating. In fact, we’ll even make sure that’s on board if you wish’. But perhaps the most important benefit is that the entire program is supported by Princess Motor Yacht Sales dedicated warranty support team, the exact same team that looks after the new boat warranty program. What this means for you is that in the event of any issues there’s a network in place to deal with it. I
t was a sight to behold, as the flotilla led by Rubio, a sleek Princess 72, edged out of the marina, beginning its journey across the Mediterranean, heading for Port Vell, Barcelona – the final destination. The flotilla halted briefly for a rendezvous close to Santa Ponsa, where several more yachts joined from nearby Palma, Portals and Andratx, before continuing the journey once again. Conditions were near perfect. Moving north along the Dragonera channel at 20 knots, the sole interruption to the still waters - a pod of dolphins, breaking the surface before disappearing into the deep blue sea. The flotilla arriving that afternoon at Port Vell was given a warm welcome by marina staff, who saw each and every yacht into its berth over on the South side of the marina. This exclusive marina, billed as a worldclass home port for superyachts, is located in the heart of Barcelona – a stone’s throw from the vibrant city centre, but with its own exclusive selection of facilities, fine dining and entertainment close by. On arrival, guests had just enough time to sit back and enjoy a refreshing drink on the aft deck, before heading out to La Barceloneta, a restaurant famed for its exceptional seafood and even more spectacular views out across the marina. Arriving to join in with the camaraderie, and in-keeping with the theme of the weekend, British Grand Prix veteran Damon Hill – in town for the Grand Prix, and happy to chat in the friendly atmosphere.
Day 2... Day two and it was off to the race track for those vital qualifiers. For those who didn’t fancy two straight days amidst the noise and excitement of the track – a
little retail therapy or further relaxation on-board, followed by a night out enjoying the hustle and bustle of Barcelona’s night life – which was buzzing with the Grand Prix in town.
THE ATMOSPHERE WAS ALMOST PALPABLE WITH THE EXCITEMENT OF THE HOME CROWD Race day... The day of the race arrived hot and still. Two coaches stood outside the Port Vell marina ready to transport more than 100 Princess owners and their guests to the famous Circuit de Catalunya. The seats were spectacular. Positioned just ahead of the first corner and at the end of the pit lane, they could not have provided a better view of the action. The atmosphere was almost palpable with the excitement of the home crowd, as they urged their own Fernando Alonso on. In spite of the additional British support from the lively Princess crowd, Lewis Hamilton could only take second place as he was edged out of winning position by team-mate Nico Rosberg.
Return Voyage... So it was a relaxed and happy band of Princess owners who tucked into their breakfast al-fresco the following morning, and as the weekend’s excitement drew to a close, they started the return voyage, leaving just one or two boats behind to continue to enjoy the sights and sounds of Barcelona.

These are all things that should be considered when selecting your tender, particularly because draughts, space and power vary between models and types. Most tender manufacturers offer optional extras that could make your activities simpler and more enjoyable.
LAUNCHING AND RECOVERING Owners need complete confidence in the method by which they launch and recover tenders. Are you planning on using your crane, passerelle or swim platform? It is important to ensure your tender does not exceed the rated lifting capacity or your launch/recovery equipment. Every owner should confidently be able to safely launch and recover their tender with ease. Our team can offer advice and training should you need any help with this. Don’t forget to order your lifting kit, chocks, tie down straps and eyes.
PREPARE YOUR YACHT FOR YOUR TENDER
There are a wide range of products out there that can be fitted to your yacht to simplify using your tender and ensure it is always ready to launch without issue. Charging points, hard-wired inflators and flushing points all make running your tender a care free experience.
