INTRODUCTION •

Communication technology has been developed rapidly with the growing internet technology.

The number of the users is increasing day by day, which leads to the development of many internet communication channels. The most distinguishing feature of internet is the 'Interactivity' between the websites and their users or between the users themselves. Some websites have turned user-based, the users create their own contents on the web pages or blogs so that the other users can then access and interact. This kind of development has led to what is now known as “Social networking.”

INTRODUCTION •

In this new generation of networking, the web makers and web users now interact in two-way communication. The contents on the web come from not only the web makers, but also the users can create the contents and interact with each other.

INTRODUCTION • The Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology, as the institute that plays a central role for the educational reformation, has focused on driving for upgrading education system of Thailand science, mathematics, and technology to meet international standard also foresee the importance of social network and social media on its work and have been working to incorporate them into its function. This is because nowadays users are not limited to teenager but, as the platforms have been more developed, the people of other ages have become involved.

2. Research objective The objective of the research is to study online social network usage behavior of the employees in the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology.

Source/ InformantION For this study, the population was the employees in the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology. The size of the population was 275. For the sampling group, the number of the samples was 163. The researcher calculated the sampling size based on Yamane’s formula (Yamane method, 1967).

The uncertainty of the sampling was considered at 5% or 0.05.

Research tool and quality check • Questionnaire created from the related documents and researches, which were consistent with the ideas and the theories used in the study.

• For the quality check, the Item Objective Congruence Index (IOC) was used.

Three experts on online social network were asked to evaluate whether the questionnaire had met the set objectives. The results of 1 was given by each expert, which confirmed that the questionnaire had met the objective.

Data collection method The data collecting method in this study is as follow.

•Created online questionnaire •Sent the link of the questionnaire to the employees

Information analysis/ interpretation rule The Descriptive Statistics was used in finding Frequency, and Percentage to describe the online social network usage behavior of the employees of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology.

Summary The details of the study on online social network usage behavior of 163 employees in The Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology are as follow: •Demographic: Male 54, Female 109 Facebook was the online social network that had the highest number of member.

•The largest group had the average online time of 2-3 hours per day and the next largest group had the average online time of 31 min. to 1 hour per day.

Summary • On the login point, the highest frequency was login from home/ dorm and the next highest was login from workplace.

• On the platform which was used for login, the login was mostly from the PC. • For the activities while using the online social network, the top 3 activities were chat, information search, and status/private information and pictures update.
