utum, interchangeably known as fall in North America, is one of the four temperate seasons. Autumn marks the transition from summer into winter, in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern Hemisphere), when the arrival of night becomes noticeably earlier and the temperature cools considerably. One of its main features is the shedding of leaves from deciduous trees.

ome cultures regard the autumnal equinox as “mid-autumn”, while others with a longer temperature lag treat it as the start of autumn. Meteorologists (and most of the temperate countries in the southern hemisphere) use a definition based on months, with autumn being September, October and November in the northern hemisphere, and March, April and May in the southern hemisphere.

n North America, autumn is usually considered to start with the September equinox and end with the winter solstice (21 or 22 December). Popular culture in North America associates Labor Day, the first Monday in September, as the end of summer and the start of autumn; certain summer traditions, such as wearing white, are discouraged after that date. In traditional East Asian solar term, autumn starts on or around 8 August and ends on or about 7 November. In Ireland, the autumn months according to the national meteorological service, Met Éireann, are September, October and November.

Besides traditional canning methods, pediatric and expert knowledge of recent trends in nutrition is being increasingly utilized in products dedicated to infants and made from natural ingredients. The Company has a diverse line of baby foods incorporating fruit, dairy, vegetable and meat products. The firm’s pride is our newly-constructed meat processing plant, which meets EU criteria and is registered with European No. 625 marked in an oval field. Through a process of continuous improvement and development, the Company is also moving forward in other operating and administrative-social areas. From among seasonal products, the firm is producing green peas, beans, cucumbers and a line of sweet and chili pepper and tomato products. In addition to the manufacture of baby foods, fruit is also being processed into compotes. Consideration of quality goes into the careful selection of ingredients to be processed, strict control of the technical processing and the use of recipes that have been certified. Staff members responsible for quality are highly-qualified managers and trained employees within the Company. NOVOFRUCT is ISO 9001: 2000, ISO 14001: 2004 and OHSAS 18001: 2005 certified and has an approved HACCP system. At the end of the year 2008 the company was certificated for ISO 2200: 2005, BRC and IFS. A significant step forward is the Company’s right to use the Quality Food seal (Značka kvality), used to promote quality Slovak products and awarded by the Agriculture Ministry of the Slovak Republic, while the Company was also presented with the Golden Sickle Award (Zlatý kosák) at the international Agrokomplex exhibition. In 2008, NOVOFRUCT was honored by the Czech-Slovak magazine Modern Business (Moderní obchod) with its prestigious GOLDEN DUCAT (Zlatý Dukát) award for outstanding performance in food production and business.

Food Safety China Revised Food Safety Law In China Signals Many Changes And Some Surprises

The revision of the Food Safety Law (FSL) was a, if not the, core development in food safety regulation to look for in 2015. Much faster than expected, and only three months after the comment period on the last draft closed, the revised FSL is here. On April 24, 2015, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee (NPC) passed significant revisions to the FSL that have the potential to materially strengthen regulation of food companies in China.

Among the more prominent changes are the addition of shipping and storage to the Law’s coverage, changes to streamline the regulation of health food (dietary supplement) products, their claims and their ingredients, increased requirements for infant formula design and manufacturing, and — the change that has featured most prominently in the coverage of the drafting process — increased administrative, civil, and criminal penalties

for regulatory violations. The revised FSL is being touted as China’s toughest food safety law to date. The revised FSL will come into effect in less than five months, on October 1, 2015, and will almost certainly lead to a number of changes to food regulations and a deepening of the reforms. Stakeholders should be ready for new proposed rules coming from the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), the National Health and Family Planning Commission and other agencies with jurisdiction over food safety in China.

press — and may have been discussed amongst smaller groups of stakeholders — but they were not made available for comment by the general public. For example, the revised FSL includes a regulatory category of medically formulated foods and adds accompanying registration requirements for those products. In addition, the final FSL creates a more general requirement that infant formula manufacturers register their product formulas with the CFDA and submit supporting research materials. This registration requirement could

While many of the changes to the FSL were expected, a series of significant unexpected changes were made between the last draft that the NPC issued for public comment and this final version. Through the CFDA, the State Council, and the NPC itself, the Chinese government held four public comment periods for the revisions over two years. So, it’s unclear why some changes suddenly appeared. Some of these changes were foreshadowed in the

increase already significant burdens on underfunded and understaffed agencies and add costs for manufacturers. Another new addition to the final FSL appears to be the requirement that health food manufacturers label their products with a disclaimer that “this product cannot be a substitute for drugs.”


INFANT FORMULA Another law that the NPC released on the same day as the FSL contained a similar new provision on infant formula. The NPC released a complete revision to the Advertisement Law, which governs ads for nearly all products in forms ranging from websites to print news. The revised Advertisement Law now prohibits releasing a mass-media advertisement that claims an infant milk product or other “beverage” takes the place of a mother’s breast milk. Again, while similar changes were mentioned in the press leading up to the Advertising Law’s enactment, this change was not in the last draft that the government released for comment by the general public. Like with the new provisions on infant formula in the FSL, this new provision signals an increasingly stern policy toward infant formula.

Whether these changes were good ideas or not, China should now implement them in an efficient and effective way. In this respect, China can only benefit from stakeholder cooperation and voluntary compliance, particularly on core issues such as infant formula safety. Although some of the changes were not in the prior public drafts of the FSL, China now has the opportunity to seek stakeholder buy-in and enhance the quality of implementing regulations by engaging in a broadbased dialogue on these regulatory changes.

Indulgence in pure nature. This pure mineral water springs up in the middle of the untouched nature of the Rhön biosphere reserve. The first ready-mixed fruit spritzer was RhönSprudel Apple Plus and came onto the market in 1994. The original Plus spritzers are still a firm favourite today, with juice content of 60% and the extra-special mineral water with its fruity taste – naturally, without preservatives or artificial ingredients.

Germany's Top Trading Partners

German Exports Up in May 2015

Europe ranked first as Germany’s top trading partner in 2012. According to the latest report of the Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, in 2012, 69 percent of all German exports were delivered to European countries from which 57 percent were shipped to EU member states. The Asian market ranked second in purchasing about 16 percent of total German exports and America ranked third with around 12 percent.

In May 2015, Germany exported 95.9 billion euros and imported 76.3 billion euros in goods and services. According to provisional data from the Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, both exports and imports increased by 4.6% and imports by 3.0% respectively. In comparison with April 2015 and after calendar and seasonal adjustment, German exports fell by 1.7%, and imports by 0.3%.

At the same time, 70 percent of all imports in Germany came from European countries, also followed by Asia and America with 18 and 9 percent respectively. Most of the goods exported in 2012 were shipped to France, the United States and the United Kingdom. France received goods worth 104.5 billion Euros, or 9.5% of total exports, from Germany. The United States and the United Kingdom imported goods worth 86.8 billion Euros (7.9%) and 72.1 billion Euros (6.6%) respectively. (GTAI)

The foreign trade balance recorded a surplus of 19.5 billion euros in May 2015. After calendar and seasonal adjustment, the trade balance’s surplus totaled 22.8 billion euros. In May 2015, exports from Germany to the Member States increased by 6.2% amounting to 56.5 billion euros more than in May 2014. Similarly, imports rose by 5.2% or 51.0 billion euros. To the Euro area countries, Germany exported goods to the value of 35.6 billion Euros (+5.1%) and imported also 35.1 billion euros (+5.5%). To EU countries not belonging to the Euro area, Germany dispatched in May 2015 20.8 billion euros (+8.2%) while it received 15.9 billion euros (+4.6%) from these countries . Exports of goods and services to countries outside the EU totaled 39.4 billion euros (+2.3%) in May 2015. Imports from those countries fell by 1.3% to 25.3 billion Euros. (iXPOS)

Foreign investment favors FTZs

Food safety line takes 84,000 calls

CHINA’S eastern and coastal areas are again favorite destinations for foreign investors as some cities have set up pilot free trade zones, In the first seven months, foreign investors invested US$76.6 billion in China, up 7.9 percent year on year. They also set up 14,409 new foreign-invested firms.

IHE Shanghai Food and Drug Administration received more than 84,000 calls to its 12331 hotline last year.

Lian Ping, chief economist at the Bank of Communications, said China’s pilot FTZs, all set up in the country’s eastern or coastal areas, were the main draw for foreign investors. “The experimental policies, especially like the negative list approach, bring fundamental changes in management and make it much easier and transparent for investors,” Lian said. In the past one year, FTZs have become more familiar to investors. The China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone was considered a pioneer testing ground for various reforms to rejuvenate the world’s second-largest economy since its establishment in 2013. Last year, FTZs were opened in three more cities — Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, Fuzhou in Fujian Province and Tianjin. (Shanghai Daily)

The number of calls from whistleblowers in the period almost doubled to 531, it said yesterday. More than 28 percent of the people providing tip-offs did not leave any contact details, which means the authority will have difficulty paying them their due rewards. The food authority introduced a payment system for people who blow the whistle on dubious practices related to food and drug safety in 2007. Since 2011, the maximum possible reward has been 200,000 yuan (US$32,000). Though “anonymity is guaranteed,” many people prefer not to leave their details for fear of retribution, an official said. About 60 percent of the calls last year related to food safety issues, of which 66 percent proved accurate, officials said.
