ulia Grieve, the beautiful, fashionable and successful woman behind Preloved Clothing, was generous enough to sit down with me for a chat where she let me pick her brain. Having started her own business at a very young age, Julia definitely knows a thing or two about entrepreneurship! “When I started my business I was young and not afraid of anything. Ignorance can truly be bliss! I knew exactly what I wanted and I went after it. I, of course, could not have done it without the support we got from the city, without my family, or without my modelling experience.” She credits her attention to detail and meticulous eye for fit to her career as an international model. “Wearing some of the most expensive brands in the world teaches you about how clothing should fit, and feel.” Lucky for us Julia has used this knowledge to create Preloved clothing, and anyone who’s ever tried on a Preloved sweater can attest to the quality, coziness, and thought behind each piece. Still of course spearheaded by Julia, her unique vision and seemingly endless bounds of energy! “I run almost every day - I try to fit in three 10km runs a week. I can plan an entire collection during a run… and it helps me de-stress!” Wow! Inspirational to say the least! Speaking of inspirational, I asked Julia what inspires her: “Vintage! Even when I travel I’m the first one to scout out vintage and “buy, sell, trade” shops to look for cool pieces. When it comes to inspiration for our collections we are no different from any other design house in the sense that we stay on trend we watch for what’s in what’s out but, the difference is that I draw inspiration from vintage clothing and stay true to the brand.”
Having lived on multiple continents and travelled around the world, Julia always knew she would come back home to Toronto. So what’s so great about our city? I thought I’d ask just that! “Toronto has a big city flare but a small town vibe. We have all of the multiculturalism of a big city, we are comparable in population to Chicago, but it still feels like a tight knit community. There is a ton of local support, and you can‘t really get that in places like New York” Q: What about shopping in the city? What are some shopping tips of yours? Julie: I love thrifting! I love the thrill of the find! A great place to check out is “Kind Exchange” It’s like a massive clothing swap and they have many locations in Toronto. Q: What about splurge-worthy items? Julie: I always say that every girl should have a little black dress. That classic Audrey Hepburn shape - you’ll get so much use out of it! You can even play with the length and adjust it as needed. I have a vintage Givenchy dress that I absolutely love! Another item I’d recommend splurging on is a Smythe blazer, which is a great Canadian brand. Q: Speaking of Canadian pride, is there a Canadian fashion figure you look up to or admire? Julie: Joe Mimran without a doubt! I was so fortunate to get the chance to meet with him. He knows the Canadian market inside and out, and he’s made a huge impact on me and the brand! Q: Zooming in on Toronto again, best place to eat in the City? Julie: I love Rock Lobster for their oysters and big Caesars… and anything on the Danforth! ___ A proud Torontonian, successful business woman, mother of three and a runner - Julia Grieve is certainly a force to be reckoned with and a wonderful role model for all of us. What’s always bugged me about their relationship, though, is that Demi is more publicly effusive and affectionate than Wilmer is. We don’t hear his friends talking about how in love with her he is. There’s no information about how he’s hoping to propose this year. True, men aren’t typically as outspoken as women are. But this is all the more reason for Demi to keep her cards close to the vest. This means no living with him, playing house, or decorating until he comes through with a ring. As for whether they’re engaged -- it’s possible. But a few things tell me it still might not have happened yet. First, their matching rings could just be promise rings. Second, the person who spotted Demi shopping overheard her say that she wants to make a nice home for her boyfriend. Third, Demi’s other friend said she hopes Wilmer will propose. If they aren’t engaged yet, Demi should give Wilmer until spring to propose or move on. He knows by now whether he wants to marry her. Let’s see if he’s really going to put the money on the table.

Reality TV star Tori Spelling has confirmed her husband has quit True Tori, but insists the show must go on. Steve Hackett (former lead guitarist of rock band Genesis) performs live on stage at Massey Hall
"biased account" of the group's history. Earlier this year, the original members of the British rock group reunited to film a movie, titled Genesis: Together and Apart. While the documentary mainly focuses on the band's overall history, it also features the solo careers of its members, including Hackett, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks. However, after the movie made its debut in October, Hackett has come forward to share his disappointment with the lack of his own solo projects in the film. He wrote on his Facebook page, "It's certainly a biased account of Genesis history and totally ignores my solo work. It does not deliver the theme of Together and Apart. In interview I spoke at length as much about my solo career as my time in Genesis, but was not given any editorial involvement." Hackett went on to note that while R-KIVE, the record compilation which features Genesis' greatest hits plus three tracks from each band member's solo projects, represents each of them equally, he insists "the documentary does the opposite". (NC) nstead of a traditional figgy pudding this season, try a new take on rice pudding with a delicious cinnamonalmond flavour. Sprinkling roasted almonds on top adds a terrific crunch that everyone will enjoy. (Courtesy of the California Almond Board) Ingredients 3/4 cup (175 mL) leftover cooked rice, preferably basmati or jasmine 3/4 cup (175 mL) Almond Breeze Original1/4 tsp (1 mL) ground cinnamon 1/4 cup ( 50 mL) sliced almonds, roasted 1 tsp (5 mL) honey Directions Combine rice, almond beverage and cinnamon in a small saucepan. Turn heat to medium and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer gently for 4 to 5 minutes, until liquid

Why not do something different this year and place two table runners horizontally across the dining room table? This breaks the table up in a new way and highlights the rest of your centrepiece. Dim all the lights When in doubt, add candlelight. Hurricanes, lanterns, even strategically placed votive candles instantly elevate any vignette. For a quick and easy display, fill a hurricane or cloche with something pretty. Pillars, bowl fillers, gem mixes and tree ornaments are a few fun ideas.

Canadian Justin Bieber has faced a string of legal woes throughout the year, including a petition to have him deported back to Canada, a court order to undergo anger management sessions and perform community service for egging a neighbour’s home in Calabasas. To top if off, last month an Argentine judge asked officials at Interpol to use all “necessary means” to alert the Canadian about an order to return to Buenos Aires for police questioning in relation to an alleged attack on a local paparazzo last year. Ouch! The Baby hitmaker still has hope. Bieber’s pastor Carl Lentz recently told the New York Post, “I remember (when I first met him) just looking at him and going, ‘This is going to be a challenge’... And that day being like, ‘I’m going to pray for this boy to make it’... I have a special role in Justin’s life, spiritually, but... I’m not a life-motivational guy... We’re talking about making sure his life remains a blessing, not a burden... He’s on a journey. If he’s not doing good, should we abandon him?” Nope ... But he still makes the naughty list. y!
