his Ferrari and Porsche Dealership, that was enough of a tease! I was instantly knocking on his door.

The first human being to land on the moon was in July 1969, this was the same time Porsche Willoughby, known as Scuderia Veloce Motors back then, were appointed as Porsche Dealers in Sydney. At that time my personal mode of transport was a VW Kombi purchased for US $25 in Wiesbaden, Germany from a GI on the Airforce Base where I was working. Because the VW was not reliable enough for long trips, I would strap on my back pack, with a Union Jack prominently placed, and “hitch hike“ all over Europe! I experienced my first Porsche 911 when an Austrian picked me up going through the Alps in the winter time. It was disbelief and awe at the same time, how can a car handle like this with an engine in the back? I was used to Dad’s Jensen Interceptor!

On May 1st 1992 I started with Scuderia Veloce Motors, our CEO, Bob Atkin, told me to drive each and every car we owned for at least a week to understand the complexities of Ferrari and Porsche.

In 1970/71 I worked in Pennsylvania, selling New Volvo and used Pontiacs and Chevrolets, no Porsches in sight until I was offered a job in Harrisburg for the Porsche and VW Dealer. My only stipulation was a 914 Targa company car! Fast forward back home to London and I am selling Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Lamborghini, working for Portman Garages for eleven years. The next time a Porsche took my fancy was in Mayfair, London. In 1972 a lady arrived at a famous hair salon next to our showroom off Baker Street, in a Bronze 911 Targa, wearing a fur coat, she exited the car with the same style as the 911 showed when arriving. My third encounter was with a Jet-Black 911 Turbo owned by Colin Blunstone, the lead singer of The Zombies, I had never driven anything quite so fast, again, with that incredible engine in the rear. I was hooked. When I migrated to Sydney in 1984 I was able to join Chatswood Classic Cars and enjoyed supplying Sports Cars and used Mercedes and BMW together with new Audi and Alfa Romeo. One day I was told that Laurie Sutton was looking for a GM to head up

"Oh, OK. If I must!" Goodness only knows what the neighbours thought back then. I remember being sent across to the Ferrari Factory and of course to Stuttgart, the home of Porsche, very vivid memories of those vehicles being built in the early nineties. An interesting statistic is that Porsche in Australia, during the year of 1992, only sold 30 new cars! The whole company could have been bought for 10,000,000 Euros and we were concerned that one day BMW or another European company could swallow up Dr Ferry Porsche’s pride and joy. Fortunately, Wendelin Wiedeking took over as CEO in 1993 and saved the company by introducing new manufacturing practices in Stuttgart. He was also the man behind the Boxster and the new 996 series of the 911. Though only holding the position for some 6 years he will always be regarded with the ultimate high esteem. In the final analysis, it is indeed a pleasure, to have worked with such fine examples of motoring history these past 27 years, I will always treasure each and every year spent with Porsche Willoughby. Our staff and also our clients show such loyalty when either working here or purchasing their new Porsches. I have found it a pleasure every day to come to "work". It is my hope that our employees and our clients feel the same way. We have major plans for this September to celebrate our 50th Birthday in style, I do hope we see you here during this month!

992 VIP ARRIVAL

PCW is one of the longest standing Porsche dealerships in Australia. We attribute our success to the lasting relationships with our loyal clients.

"I was privileged to drive a selection of Macans, I loved the car so much I bought my own and now in 2019 I am a Porsche owner with my very own Macan."

On 10th April 2019, Porsche Willoughby hosted an exclusive VIP preview event to launch the all new 8th generation of an iconic model - the 911.

1969 - 2019

Porsche Willoughby - History in the making. Historically, the beginning of Porsche Willoughby really dates back to 1963, when a brilliant technician, Bob Atkin and his racing driver/journalist friend, David McKay, started Scuderia Veloce Motors (SVM). In those days their business venture together was looking after high performance imported sports cars. Hence the name Scuderia Veloce, the stable of speed. It would be fair to say that neither of them ever dreamt of the possibilities ahead that would see us here today, some 56 years later as Porsche Willoughby.

In those early years, Shell proved most helpful, being instrumental in the building of their new premises under the Wahroonga Auto Port in Sydney’s North Shore. An agreement with Shell to use their products with his racing team and of course at the Service Centre, one that would follow Bob Atkin for many decades in the future. In 1964 SVM was appointed as a Ferrari Dealer for NSW, the following year Bob and David took on Volvo, the Swedish reliability combined with the fascination of the Italian Stallion. Only a few years later in 1968, Bob Atkin was at the Sydney Motor Show late in the year, visiting the Porsche stand and chatting with Alan Hamilton. There were three brand new 911 models on display, each in a different colour. Bob thought the Porsche brand would sit very well with Ferrari and Volvo, he was offered a deal. Purchase the three 911 models on display and he would be granted the rights to sell and service new Porsche from the North Shore. Of course, the rest is history! Throughout the seventies, SVM sold many new and used Porsches locally in Sydney and even arranged overseas deliveries for clients wishing to drive around Europe prior to bringing their cars home to Australia. Fast forward to 1983 when business was tough and the vehicles SVM were selling were expensive versus buying a property or sampling another marque. David knew Laurie Sutton casually from the Holden Racing days, he had expressed an interest in the business SVM. We are told the conversation went like this, "Is the company for sale?" "It is under offer, though it doesn’t look like amounting to anything" “Where can I meet you on Monday morning?" "I will be at home" In short, the Sutton Group purchased SVM and kept on all their staff with Bob Atkin staying on as CEO. History shows the industry went through tough times in the eighties, culminating with a severe recession for Australia in 1987, which lasted until the early nineties. Amazingly, in a time of recession, Suttons purchased a site in Willoughby where they built the current showroom and opened as a Porsche Ferrari centre under the now famous name of Scuderia Veloce Motors in November 1991. An enormous glass show-case to highlight the beauty of all the German and Italian thoroughbred vehicles sitting on the highly polished white floor. Only 4 minutes from the Harbour Bridge on a main arterial road, it would be a full 10 years until that all familiar glass showcase would alter. In those days one could gaze at a Ferrari F40, a 512 BB, or a 328GTB through our windows. We showcased our Porsche 944’s, 928’s and of course the 911. Remember, a new 911 was $200,000 on the road whilst an apartment or small house was a similar amount!

Naturally, the number of cars we were delivering then was only a handful a month. Consequently, the carpark we designed, with 4 spaces in 1991 was ample for the odd Ferrari 328 or Porsche 911 as all cars were much smaller then. These days, we are so busy, I find myself out at the front directing traffic and attempting to help our clients drop off their cars. Having migrated to Australia in 1984 I was lucky enough to hear that SVM were looking for leadership for Willoughby. Laurie Sutton interviewed me and Bob Atkin confirmed my appointment as GM for Scuderia Veloce in May 1992. Here I sit, some 27 years later, with the same appreciation of Porsche as I had in the early years. My personal favourite quote from Dr Ferry Porsche: "Life itself is a race, marked by a start, and a finish, It is what we learn during that race, how we apply it, that determines whether our participation has had particular value. If we learn from each success, and each failure, and improve ourselves through this process, then at the end, we have fulfilled our potential and performed well."

concept of a sports car through the mountains and across the desert plains of Arizona, along with Police escorts! There were 70 to 80 brand new Boxsters there for us to sample, all sorts of colours and all so exciting. I watched the unveiling of three Boxsters on stage whilst sitting next to Jerry Seinfeld an avid Porsche collector and friend of Dr Wendelin Wiedeking the CEO of

In the early nineties my whole focus was on generating enough income to justify the overheads and show a positive result each month. Consequently, we branched out into used prestige vehicles, including BMW, Mercedes and such like, sourced from local people and the SMH on a Saturday morning. We lined these cars up along the front of our Dealership, painted the screens in coloured pricing with the year model and a large price etc. It was survival of the quick and the fittest! Apparently a friend of Laurie Sutton called him and said

"I watched the unveiling of three Boxsters on stage

"They have used cars strewn across the front of SVM with coloured pricing! This is just terrible!" To which Laurie answered

whilst sitting next to Jerry

"Well, they are selling cars, that is what counts”.

Seinfeld an avid Porsche

I remember very vividly the first car I sold, a brand new 944 S2 Cabriolet in Silver to Malcolm Carver and architect from Pymble. We owned 6 of them at that time. He arrived with a Mercedes 190E and displayed a desire to drive the 944, the next day he owned it! We lost money on the trade, however, we were very happy, one down and five to go. Plus we inherited Malcolm as a great ambassador for us, purchasing more cars through the years and even joining me on my annual Ice-force sojourn to Finland.

collector!" Porsche AG from 1993 to 2009. Later at the black tie event, Liza Minelli performed for us and on another night under the stars and in the desert, Jerry Seinfeld did a few of his routines! With SVM Willoughby now a stand-alone Porsche Dealer, the time had come to plan a renovation, this was completed in 2003. We wrapped the building in Alucobond, moved our Parts and Service Department offices and built a new modern reception with a Scuderia Café element. Everyone received a new Corporate Identity Desk and Workstation with new furnishings throughout. We felt like we had arrived! Very soon after we officially adopted the new name of Porsche Centre Willoughby. However, we managed to alter the rear window decals by just the letters and adopting the German flag colours instead of the Italian ones that had been synonymous with SVM for so many years. Just last week a very good client arrived with a car bought from Sydney South as we did not have one, he wanted our plate frames, rear decal and our 50-year decal attached forthwith!

SVM added Jeep to our stable of cars in 1994, I remember suggesting this idea to our CEO, Bob Atkin one day. “Are you bereft young man? This is a crazy idea!” Eventually he agreed to bring on board Jeep and we sold many Jeep Cherokees and Grand Ltd models from day one. There were only 4 Jeep Dealers when we commenced, I recall in June 1995 we delivered 57 Jeep, 11 Porsche and 4 Ferrari! A fantastic achievement. Our logic with the Jeep franchise was to keep us going until the all new Porsche Boxster arrived in late 1996/1997, we then moved Jeep to Chatswood in 1987 and also relocated Ferrari to William Street in the city. Subsequently we became the sole importer for Ferrari from our Suttons Head Office in William Street and utilised our Bourke Street premises for their servicing.

From 2002 we were in full Cayenne sales flow, little did I realise how much of an impact it would have. When we were taken in 2001 in a blacked-out bus to an undisclosed location in LA California where we viewed two prototype E1 Cayenne. They both

The International launch of the Boxster was held in Scottsdale, Arizona in September 1996. We were able to drive this all new

had huge V8 4.5L petrol engines with 340hp, we were excited! The first V8 engine since the iconic 928 series, since Globally, these vehicles would eventually represent 80% of worldwide sales when combined with our popular Macan range. The Cayenne was first off-road Porsche since their Super and Junior tractors of the 1950’s! Porsche recent TOTAL deliveries worldwide are: 2016 = 238,000, 2017 = 246,000, 2018 = 256,000 and 2019 = 260,000? Since the introduction of the Macan in 2014 we have seen our business volumes double, this has had a flow on effect through the whole business. Australia represents an average of 4,000 vehicles each year.

John Miesch, who has sadly passed, was a thirty-year veteran, having started at Lindfield. One can ask why do the staff stay so long? I think our answer must be three fold, firstly the "Product" secondly the "Family" and thirdly the "Clients".

Amazingly we have sold over 750,000 Cayenne worldwide, with 10,000 of them finding homes down here in Australia. With the fifth generation of the 911 being released in 1997 as the 996 series, there came some big changes, from air cooled to water cooled!

As I often say, in my opinion, PORSCHE is the ULTIMATE, I would not be here or even in the industry if it were not for Porsche. From my early days of working in this industry, I felt the best way to treat a client was as a friend, I believe much of our success can

Our 911 remained as popular as ever, with clients accepting the new idea of water cooling. Of course, our 993 series had always been almost hand-built and was very special, so special that sometimes they would get stolen. In 1996 I had built a 993 Turbo for a loyal client in British Racing Green with cedar Green trim, we waited many months for this special car. When the truck driver unloaded the five new cars for us, he inadvertently left the key in the ignition. I imagine an admirer had been following the truck which had the Turbo sitting on the lower rear, his passion and excitement overcame him when he noticed the keys in the ignition! The car was gone in under a minute while the driver was obtaining a signature from us. Fortunately, a week later at 2am I received a call from the Leichardt Police, they had found our 993 in a carpark on the fifth level. Would I come and retrieve it please? The car had only driven from Willoughby to Leichardt and was totally without a mark on it.

One of our longest standing clients, David Withers, was once asked, "Why Porsche?” Replying "It never occurred to me to buy anything else!" be traced back to all the hard work our staff have done to foster this kind of thinking. I see it every day and from all our staff here. Imagine when a good friend calls you with a problem, maybe a mislaid key or an accident. Maybe they have a critical meeting to attend, they cannot wait with the car for the truck. You would instantly jump in a loan car and get your friend ( client ) on their way while you wait for the tow truck.

The other very memorable theft was back in the early 2,000’s, one of the first GT3 models in our possession suddenly disappeared. This was prior to cameras, bollards and a very advanced security system. Around 3am one day our Black brand new GT3 was gone! A friend of ours, Peter McKay, a journalist with the SMH, published a motoring section every Saturday. We asked him to offer a reward of $2,000 for any information leading to the recovery of our GT3. Two weeks later I received a call from the Police, again, at 2.30am to say it had been located. A neighbour had looked over his backgarden fence and kept seeing this brand new car parked without plates on the grass. I raced down to the inner west in the middle of the night to ID the GT3. So, no insurance claim and $2,000 later we placed the totally perfect car on the showroom floor.

Simple. When we do these little things for our clients, they will never forget you, most of the time, they are customers and friends for life! One of our longest standing clients, David Withers, a collector, a racing driver and a daily Porsche user, was once asked, "Why Porsche for all of these years?” His reply was "Seriously, it never occurred to me to buy anything else!" There was a time in the nineties when we delivered 5 to 7 cars a month, gradually building up to 10 or 12 by the late nineties with Boxster and 911. In the 2,000’s we were delivering 12 to 16 and reached 20 by late 2009. Then we really saw an increase to 30 in 2013 and 40 a month in 2014 with the popularity of the Macan. Currently as I write this in May 2019 we are delivering 55 new Porsche and have taken orders for 60!

PCW has always been a business where staff longevity is important, from the perspective of our client base this has been a wonderful factor in our continued success as a close-knit boutique style of Porsche Centre. Our clients may remember names like Peter Powell, Mark Blundell and Len Kench from Service, Mike Harland and Richard Robb from Parts, John Miesch, Anthony Raymond, Michael Lister, Mario Guerrera, Daniel Phillips, Stuart Bailey and Mary Edwards from Sales. These factors are prominent in our overall strategy at Willoughby.

Our premises is at pressure point, we are waiting for the all new Cayenne Coupe in November 2019 and having just recently released a Cayenne last year, a Macan early this year together with the eighth generation 911.

718 Launch June 2016

I ask myself, “ Where will we place the Taycan in 2020 ? We were told by the Factory in Germany …over the next 5 years, in our industry, there will be more change than the past 50 years! Our Taycan is clearly the first major step, with an electric Macan in 2023 and an electric 718 Boxster/Cayman also scheduled. When contemplating the past 27 years of my tenure, there have been many memorable moments. I consider it a privilege to be hosted almost once a year to a new car release somewhere in the world. The look on our clients faces when driving on the ice in Finland, especially on the last day when they are very confident. The pleasure we get when delivering a new car, pulling back the covers and experiencing the new owners glee. The satisfaction of suggesting to one of our client frontline girls that they can sell cars and finding that they really can! Advising a client on which car to order and helping them choose a colour and the right options, a daily pleasure.

"Of course, I am slightly biased,

In the 2,000’s the movie MATRIX was being filmed in Sydney, I had organised for Keanu Reeves to drive a 911 during his time here. Many months after filming was completed and the movie had not yet been released. On a Saturday, our receptionist frantically called me to say there was someone pretending to be Reeves on the phone. He was calling from a Studio jet over the Pacific to invite us to the premiere that following week!

maybe I have Porsche DNA... for me Porsche will always be the best car in the world..."

Of course, I am slightly biased, maybe I have Porsche DNA, certainly, at this age I must already have been through Menoporsche! For me, Porsche will always be the best car in the world, whether it is a Panamera, Cayenne, Macan, 911 or 718. Also, I am sure the Taycan and future electric vehicles arriving here in the next few years will be just as technically advanced and enjoyable as our previous models. Even now, after 27 years, every day, I still turn the key in the ignition and wait for the engine note and exhaust crackle, a smile and off to Willoughby! Ferdinand Porsche said many years ago “ In the beginning I looked around and I could not quite find the car I dreamed of. So I decided to build it myself “ This may indeed be truer today than ever before. On behalf of the team at Porsche Willoughby I would like to thanks everyone with the PCW community for making the last 50 years truly exceptional and cannot wait to see what will happen in the next decade. In 2018 I embarked on a Porsche Willoughby ambassadorship. I was privileged to drive a selection of Macans in petrol and diesel variants with different options, which was great as I was able to see how they drive and what they are like to live with.

T

I loved the car so much I bought my own and now in 2019 I am a Porsche owner with my very own Macan. I want to be able to drive to the shops and get to the gym and have my son in the back. I'm very sensible when it comes to car choices and I think my Macan suits this side of me. It is a great sized car, still big enough for inner city running about and easy to park with its size. For my lifestyle it's the perfect car right now and my 6-year-old son loves the fact the car has plenty of room for him. He's not allowed to eat in a car though... (laughs) I use the car for everything from soccer on Saturday morning to Jiu Jitsu, to shopping and picking up my son’s friends. The boot space is big enough for a decent sized pram. it's enough boot space and the perfect size SUV for a family with one or two kids.

both advising me to wind it back a little… I was considering putting on fake exhausts and was talked off the ledge after I was told it was my family heritage coming out. (laughs)

I'm trying to keep it new and clean for as long as possible, I've even left my plastic on the touch screen on the dashboard, Gareth at PCW was offering to take it off and I said; I'm Greek it is staying on for as long as possible!

The Macan is my car that I use every day. I'm a Mum, I'm working, I do a lot of kilometres. It's a car that I feel comfortable and safe in. And is a luxury car at a great price point. If you want to buy an economical luxury car for a small family, it's hard to go past the Porsche!

My son is becoming a bit of a car guy now. After having so many Macans grace our driveway, and now with this one he just thinks you get brand new cars all the time! He was asking me “can we have a red one next week?” I'm telling him “no that's not how cars work.”

I love sitting in the car; I’ve worked so hard since I was 16 years old and it's nice to be able to afford a little bit of luxury. I find my time in the car is very important to me; that time before and after work is my time, and my Macan is my little cocoon. The Macan is just a beautiful car and I feel nice being in it, I get to spoil myself just a little.

The customization is almost unlimited with Porsche and I wanted unlimited! My partner and PCW GM Sean Lygo were 16

Q

Slawek - I have driven on snow and ice in my younger days while living in Europe. I also participated in Camp4 S two years ago. I think a little Camp4S experience comes in handy however you learn a lot over 3 solid days of driving. Instructors are very helpful and it is amazing how quickly the confidence grows. It is all about precision and finesse- left and right, tap on the brake (Scandinavian flick!) and power, power, power, drifting all the way!!! You can do it all day- lots of fun. If you dare to explore the limits and lose it? Cayenne with a tow rope and a couple of snow shovels will do the trick. Amazing what Porsche cars are capable of. Q. Describe the journey to Finland and the moments leading up to your first drive. Cristina - I have to say that I now understand why it was difficult for my General Manager Sean to explain how amazing Ice Force truly is! I find myself tying to do the same and there just aren’t enough words to describe it‌

Q. Tell us about your connection with Porsche?

Cristina - Having originally started at Porsche Willoughby in the capacity of Client Services four years ago, I was given an opportunity to join the Sales Team. Being a close knit team, it is inspiring to work with colleagues and to meet our clients’ needs in acquiring a sought after vehicle, and further maintaining a strong relationship after the sales process.

Slawek - I think it is recommended to break the trip up a little bit and acclimatize. My recent trip started with summer and plus 35 degrees in Sydney and ended in sub polar Levi at minus 35 and a metre of snow- big temperature difference in a very short time. I tend to visit family and friends for a few days. Many people combine the trip with a visit to Porsche Museum and Factory in Stuttgart. There is a direct flight ex Munich to Kittila once a week, otherwise you have to break the trip up in Helsinki. Arriving at Kittila airport you get almost a smack in the face- the arctic air is really that COLD!!! Once at Levi hotel, it is nice to go for a short walk before the introductory dinner on the first night- test you clothes and your lungs!

Slawek - 25th anniversary with the brand approaching fast- seems like only 5 years ago that I started working at Willoughby. Amazing progression and evolution of the brand during that time. Many milestones like Boxster, Cayenne, Macan and of course the 911- what a difference between 993 and 992 in 25 years. I have owned and driven many cars over the years but there is nothing like Porsche out there. You just get in- every time it fits like a glove! Turn the ignition ON and a smile appears instantly.

Q. What kind of driving qualification do you have, and do you think is necessary for Ice force? Cristina - You definitely need an open mind and a willingness to listen and learn to the countless advice given by the instructors, thus enabling you to get the most from the experience. A sense of calmness will go a long way also due to the challenging conditions and sub-zero temperature.

very spectacular on turns but possibly not as effective on ice in comparison with AWD cars. Give me the Turbo S please!stealth power and very comfortable in everyday use.

Q. it is said by many esteemed drivers that ice driving is the most fun you can have in a car, do you agree?

Q. Talk us through the progression of the ice driving, had you ever slid a car before? Cristina - Having been briefed for a good couple of hours prior (covering conditions, safety and car setup) all participants were eager to get out on the ice (be it extremely cold -18 degrees!) Initially all were somewhat hesitant as to what expect with the car setup including the spiked snow tyres, but you could see the team gaining momentum (some too much being retrieved by the Cayenne) in the days to follow. Having never driven in these conditions personally it was both a challenging and exciting time. Slawek - The first day starts with a slalom and driving in circles. Slow introduction to Scandinavian flick and drifting comes on naturally as all elements are combined together. Faster and longer circuits are gradually introduced. I believe Instructors have the ability to adjust the programme slightly depending on how well the participants are progressing. At times two adjoining circuits are joined providing nice, long runs and great combination and variation of turns.

Q. Tell us about the cars you drove, the different characteristics and your favourite. Cristina - Throughout three days of driving we were able to experience several car models, I would have to say the 911 Turbo was my favourite. Slawek - Ice Force is all about the top of the range cars. We started with 911 Carrera 4 GTS then 911 Turbo S and moved to GT3 for a very short but intensive session- on your own, against the stopwatch with instructor watching from the distance - this was amazing! Carrera 4 GTS seemed the lightest and the easiest to drive on the first day but then, towards the end of the third day most people preferred the Turbo S. GT3 was in the class on its own- light weight, tail happy looking

Cristina - Without a doubt! It is also an opportunity that doesn’t come across the desk every day. Not many locations in the world that you can experience such driving challenges, and to initially learn then refine the art of sliding over the four days. Whilst top speed was a lot less than may be achieved on a track day, I would personally say it was a lot more challenging and exciting due to the conditions and car setup that was experienced. Slawek - Almost everybody can drive fast in a straight line on the autobahn. Driving on Ice (with PSM off) is all about precision, finesse and feeling what the car is capable of. It is a long day in the office- from around 8.30 (Sunrise) until 5.00 PM – pitch dark with gentle fog appearing from the forest. The view through the windscreen is almost surreal- ice and snow banks blending ahead, fog patches illuminated by the headlights- a bit scary but fun. The most fun you can have? If you like driving- definitely! Take me there tomorrow!

Q. Tell us about the people and comradery on the trip and how that affected your experience? Cristina - It was a great opportunity to meet other Porsche enthusiasts both young and old whilst undertaking the experience in such a foreign environment. With two drivers being allocated to a car, it made for good talking over a meal each evening. Some needed the assistance of the recovery vehicles (Cayenne) more than others, as was evident as drivers pushed their capabilities and the cars limits to the extreme… shout out to my co-driver Rob – as they say in Finland, joukkueen numero yksi!! Slawek - Great people and a mix of real characters. Sean did a great job pairing people up in cars. Lots of spirited conversations over dinners and the most fun you can have driving during the day- hands sore from steering, ribs sore from laughing. We all exchanged photos via drop boxes and stayed in touch. Most participants vowing to return in a year or two- it is really so much fun!

"We moved to GT3 for a very short but intensive session - on your own, against the stopwatch with instructor watching from the distance - this was amazing!"

The steeply sloping roof line of this new elegance Cayenne model creates sharper lines with a totally unique rear section. Highlights include an adaptive rear spoiler, a rear bench with the characteristics of two individual seats, and two different roof concepts – a panoramic fixed glass roof fitted as standard, and an optional carbon roof. Dynamic proportions combine with custom design elements to lend the new Cayenne Coupé an unrivalled elegance. “The significantly more steep roof line that falls away to the rear makes the Cayenne Coupé appear even more dynamic, and positions it as the sportiest-looking model in the segment,” said Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche. That effect is supported by a roof spoiler, which accentuates the distinctive Coupé silhouette. The front windscreen and A-pillar are shallower than in the Cayenne, courtesy of a roof edge that has been lowered by around 20 millimetres. Redesigned rear doors and fenders broaden the shoulders of this vehicle by 18 millimetres, contributing to its overall muscular impression. The rear number plate is integrated into the bumper, making the vehicle seem closer to the ground.

This one shape. It was always the same. This shape has won races. Everyone knows it, everyone recognises it.

The new Cayenne Coupé comes with a 2.16 m2 panoramic fixed glass roof as standard. The 0.92 m2 glazed area gives all passengers an extraordinary sense of space, while the integrated blind protects against sun exposure and cold.

This shape stands for everything we are.

With its adaptive roof spoiler, the current Cayenne Turbo was the first SUV to feature this type of active aerodynamics. The new Cayenne Coupé picks up that ball and runs with it. On each Cayenne Coupé model, a roof spoiler is combined with a new adaptive rear spoiler as part of Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA). The spoiler – harmonically integrated into this model’s silhouette – extends by 135 mm at speeds of 90 km/h and up, increasing the contact pressure on the rear axle, while PAA simultaneously enhances efficiency.

additional cost. Rear passengers sit 30 millimetres lower than in the Cayenne, meaning there is plenty of headroom despite the vehicle’s sporty lowered silhouette. The boot capacity is 625 litres – ideal for everyday use – and rises to 1,540 litres when the rear seats are folded down (Cayenne Turbo Coupé: 600 to 1,510 litres). Two high-performance engines are available at market launch. The Cayenne Coupé with six-cylinder turbocharged engine and displacement of three litres delivers 250 kW (340hp) and maximum torque of 450 Nm. The Sport Chrono Package achieves the standard sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, with this figure dropping to 5.9 seconds with the optional lightweight sports packages. The Cayenne Coupé top speed is 243 km/h.

The new Cayenne Coupé offers plenty of space for up to four people. At the front, the new eight-way sports seats with integrated head rests offer exceptional comfort and optimum lateral support. In the rear, the Coupé comes fitted as standard with a rear bench that has the characteristics of two individual seats. THE NEW 911.

A

few minutes away from Porsche Willoughby lies a warehouse hidden from public eyes. On April 10th PCW hosted an exclusive VIP preview event to launch the all new 8th generation of the iconic model the 911. It seemed impossible, for Porsche to improve an icon for its 8th generation. Yet the new 992 generation 911 is more muscular, more powerful, more connected, and an even bigger thrill than its predecessors. The warehouse in the backstreets of Artarmon came to life. Bathed in an electric atmosphere of red light, guests had the opportunity to take in the mastery of the previous 7 generations of 911, the sounds of live musicians, and conversation over the latest iteration built on the anticipation of the evening's main event reveal.

PCW's General Manager Sean Lygo’s prelaunch speech addressed the proceedings with grace and poise stating; “Porsche is the ultimate. That’s it” before the veil was lifted and three 992 911s rolled out through a crowd of smiles and recording devices. Three new 911s in Carrara White, Guards Red and Racing Yellow, claimed the event's central position and everyone's attention along with it!

The ever knowledgeable Ben Drew outlined the key design and engineering advancements to this stunning new model, then invited guests to see the cars up close!

Some drive for the pleasure of driving, others purely for the destination. A Porsche Willoughby drive to Keith Tulloch Wine expertly blends the two and serves up a must do event positioned on the PCW Calendar. The everaccommodating and insightful fourth generation wine makers, the Tulloch family, kindly opened up their incredible vineyard to host an exclusive PCW lunch. Keith and Amanda formed this wine business in 1997, first producing ‘The Kester’ Shiraz in the vintage of 1998. Keith had a wealth of winemaking experience from his time working across the Australian and International winemaking industry, as well as access to top-quality fruit from Hunter Valley vineyards. Now he could make premium wine under his own name, with his own philosophy. Firing up a Porsche before the sun has risen into the sky is an exciting moment, but the most appealing aspect of the trip is the incredible convoy of twenty plus Porsches, all with clear intentions of enjoying the twists and turns of one of Sydney’s most engaging driving roads, the Putty. Keith, his family and team work to produce wines that express the unique terroir and climate from the ancient soils of the Brokenback Range. En route the PCW convoy endeavor to express the personality, creativity and excellence of the marques finest examples. Leading this modern automotive

orchestra a conductor directs the performance towards the small completely family owned winery and vineyard. The experience is three fold; the first a private tasting in the WJ Pitsche Tasting Room to sample such wines which to quote James Halliday ‘Drip with quality.’ The second is a tour of the grounds hosted by Keith Tulloch himself as he details the history of the vineyard lovingly referred to as the “Field of Mars”. Keith named the vineyard after a field on the outskirts of ancient Rome on the banks of the Tiber River. The third, and most delicious of the experiences, is straight to the Barrel Room for a banquet lunch catered by Muse Kitchen. Seated amongst the oak barrels of maturing wines, guests enjoy the mouth-watering food and get a chance to share tales of their driving adventures. NICK SPANO

PORSCHE WILLOUGHBY SERVICE TECHNICIAN

What is your role at PCW? I’m a Bronze Service Technician at Porsche Willoughby. I completed my apprenticeship here and have spent 7 happy years with Porsche.

Where did your passion for cars begin?

How much is a dream worth? It depends on the quality of it's upkeep. Meet one of the men behind retaining its long term value.

My motoring background started with me working at my uncles workshop when I was 16. Every Saturday I would give him a hand with everything from servicing cars to removing engines. I wanted to become a mechanic, so every mechanical task on the table I was happy to help with to further my knowledge.

What were the first steps in your Porsche Journey? To be honest Porsche wasn’t my first employment option – however I’m glad how it worked out. While I was still in high school I was lucky enough to be offered an apprenticeship at another prestige dealership in Sydney. Yet, to my disappointment at the time, once I had completed high school the dealership had already hired two apprentices. I decided to reach out to PCW to see if there were any opportunities for me. Luck was on my side this time as Chris Long (Service Manager – PCW), explained they were looking for apprentices. Needless to say, I rushed in for my interview and successfully started my Porsche journey. It was meant to be!

Tell us about working at Porsche Willoughby? The PCW team are awesome. From all the technicians in the workshop right through to the sales team, service advisors and management. I’ve had the privilege to get to know everyone around the dealership and I honestly only have great things to say about the PCW Family.

What is your favourite model in the lineup? My favourite Porsche model would be any of the GT cars - but the 991.2 GT3RS has to be my favourite. It's a race car on the road! The development of the front end; it ran in parallel to that of the 911 RSR and are only minimally different. And that engine! Again, it's based on the Porsche motorsport derived 911 GT3 Cup car. I mean it's a mechanical work of art; for example the RS uses a separate engine oil tank, a fully variable oil pressure pump and also gets an extra supply of oil via the crankshaft itself! Leave the tech stuff out of it, just the shape, feel and sound of driving one is truly an experience you wont’t forget in a hurry. It doesn't exist in any other car!

Talk us through a PCW highlight? My highlight at PCW would have to be when I was trusted to service the super rare and truly amazing Porsche Carrera GT one of the most amazing sportscars of all time. Filled with its advanced technology of the early 2000s and being such a rare and expensive car, I'm honoured to be given the opportunity to work on the car. Definitely a motoring highlight.

What keeps you busy outside of PCW? Once I’m done with a busy day at work I usually end up coming home and relaxing on the couch watching a bit of TV, or taking my energetic Jack Russell, Rocky, to the park or a walk. Rocky loves to explore - he's not a dog who will sit peacefully on the couch all day. My life outside PCW largely involves my family and friends. I get my hands dirty helping around the house and later enjoy the nightlife. I love to travel with my girlfriend to different countries and explore the world as much as I can. When I get the chance, I enjoy working on my own cars like my 1989 Nissan Skyline R32 GTR, which I’ve owned for the past 3 years. I love that there has been many battles between Porsche and Nissan and there seems no sign of a ceasefire in the ongoing war of attrition between the two brands. At the moment my four-wheel drive, six-cylinder, turbo coupe from Japan is getting a clean re-spray and a freshly rebuilt engine which I’ll be carrying out myself. I'm hoping to be finished by the end of this year.
