Having enjoyed Europe in November with the Taycan release in Stuttgart and Barcelona and after a 12-day visit to Antarctica via Buenos Aires I found myself once again departing Australia to Finland for our annual ICEFORCE event.

Once again, I am writing Rolling Start for the next edition of W as we enter the 20’s with such a fascinating line up of new Porsches to come. This year we welcome our GTS range on the 718 Boxster and Cayman, along with Macan and Cayenne and the all new 911 Turbo S and Turbo in both Coupe and Cabriolet derivatives. We also will release a personal favourite of mine, the 911 Targa 4 and 4S range and of course our first EV, the Taycan will finally land here in December, after a secret reveal to order holders in August. Client deliveries will commence in January 2021.

Once again, we hosted 20 people to experience this once in a lifetime “must do” trip! This time our Sales Consultant, Stewart Budd, helped me look after our guests. Look for his own story further on in W. Incredibly, once again, Australia sent the largest group from any one country to ICEFORCE, 129 people to be exact.

For the first time ever, Porsche will build a highly limited production run of just 992 Targa 4S Heritage Design Editions to run alongside our 911 Targa models.

Exciting news for clients building their own 911 models in Stuttgart, on the Porsche web portal; they will be able to “Track Your Dream” and see their actual cars being manufactured! The plan is to include the Taycan next! Imagine being able to see your very own vehicle being built at various stages. Customers will be able to follow the car through 14 milestone events, all behind the scenes and somewhere they have never been before.

Bringing back the unmistakeable style and elegance of the 1950s and early 1960s through a wide range of design details in the exterior and interior, these will be priced from $395,300 plus options and on roads. After a very successful release of the Cayenne Coupe last year we can finally discuss the all new Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe arriving later this year, with new standard equipment including: Head-up Display, Surround View, Privacy Glass, Auto dim mirrors, Comfort Access, Lane Change Assist and Digital Radio.

To follow on from our last edition with interesting statistics of PAG worldwide sales, 2018 was 256,000 vehicles, increasing in 2019 to 280,800 deliveries. Australia increased by 6% to 4,161 vehicles in 2019, made up of 504 x 911’s, 245 x 718’s, 1,352 x Cayennes, 2,009 x Macans and 51 x Panameras. Our CSI (Customer Service Index) in Australia was 9.7 which is the highest we have ever achieved.

With a combined power output of 340kW 9462 PS) / 700Nm and 1-100 km/h in 5.1 sec this new version of the already popular E-Hybrid Wagon is destined to be very sought after. Priced from $151,600 plus on road costs. In June we released the pricing of our forthcoming Taycan range as follows: Taycan 4S $191,000, Taycan Turbo $269,100, Taycan Turbo S $339,100 (plus options and on road costs). Immediately the pricing was released by PCA we accepted 16 confirmed orders with build preferences for the first deliveries in 2021. Our Australian specification, over the global standard for all Taycan models will include as standard: Privacy Glazing, Electric folding mirrors, Front seat ventilation, Heated Steering Wheel, Digital Radio, Surround View, Comfort Access, Lane Change Assist and Adaptive Cruise; together with E-Performance equipment: 150kW on board DC Charger, Mobile Charge Connect, Public charging cable, Home Energy Manager, Charging Dock and Charging services which include a 3-year subscription to ChargeFox ultra-rapid charging network.

Porsche was on target to overachieve once again in 2020, until the fateful day, Friday March 13th. We were ready in Melbourne to attend the Grand Prix and COVID-19 became a serious threat to everyone. The rest is now history. As a consequence, we expect our deliveries in Australia to be greatly affected. The factories closed for 6 weeks at the height of COVID-19 and of course our normal trading was affected. This has meant no deliveries of new Porsches for the month of July and a handful for August. Fortunately, we were back to normal trading by May 1st and enjoyed double the normal sales throughout May and June; our After Sales has been at capacity too. Our next Client Drive event is in September to Orange, then later that month we have one to the Hunter Valley, so expect to see news of these in the next W Magazine. I look forward to seeing you again whenever you visit our Dealership whether for Service, Sales or simply a cup of coffee.

It’s 1964. In Sicily, a Porsche gains its first victory at the Targa Florio Rally – and on this day, makes a legend of three letters: G, T and S. GTS, which stands for Gran Turismo Sport. And is still our engineers’ answer to the desire for more comfort, more sportiness and more dynamism in a Porsche. Or in short: for more of what you love about a Porsche. More of what you love. The result of all this: more smiles when turning into corners, more butterflies in your stomach at maximum speed, more goosebumps when accelerating. In short: GTS is more Porsche in a Porsche. Today, GTS is not just for those competing in the Targa Florio or Monte Carlo Rally, but for everyone who can’t get enough of driving – whether on their way to work, during a whistle-stop tour at the weekend or in every bend on their way to their holiday destination. These motorsport genes have created an entire model range, in which even more technology meets even more passion.

Gran Turismo Sport Porsche models must earn these three iconic letters, the latest in the Macan series does so with this distinctly sporty model. The new Macan GTS boasts a powerful engine, performance-oriented chassis, characteristic design, enhanced equipment and outstanding driving dynamics. Under the bonnet the 2.9-litre V6 bi-turbo engine delivers 280 kW / 380 PS (horsepower) – an increase of 15 kW (20 PS) compared with the predecessor model. Combined with the newly adapted PDK dual-clutch transmission and the optional Sport Chrono package, the Macan GTS can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, three tenths faster than before. It has a top speed of 261 km/h. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping control system has been specially tuned. The chassis has also been lowered by 15 millimetres for greater lateral dynamics. Adaptive air suspension is optionally available with chassis lowering by a further 10 millimetres. Combined with the standard 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels and the generously sized cast iron brakes (360 x 36 millimetres at the front, 330 x 22 millimetres at the rear), the new Macan GTS impresses with the agility and responsiveness of a true sports car. As an option, deceleration can be further improved by means of the Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) with tungsten carbide coating or the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB).

Acoustically, the standard sports exhaust system specifically adapted to the GTS accentuates the driving pleasure in the new Macan GTS. A 2.9-litre V6 engine is at the heart of the sound experience. Its central turbo layout, with two turbochargers arranged in the inner V of the engine, allows particularly direct responsiveness. The maximum torque of 520 Nm (plus 20 Nm) is available over a wide range from 1,750 to 5,000 rpm. The new Macan GTS also emphasises its exceptional sporty status visually. The standard SportDesign package with new front and rear trim and striking side skirts lends the car a sports purpose appearance. The front apron and front section are characterised by black painted elements – a distinguishing feature of all Porsche GTS models. The LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and the three-dimensional rear lights with LED light bar are also darkened. The LED headlights can be optionally ordered in black with PDLS Plus. Chassis lowering by 15 millimetres, the 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in satin-gloss black, the red brake calipers and the trim strips in high-gloss black also emphasise the high-performance appearance. The colour black also sets accents at the rear: here, the diffuser and the tailpipes of the standard sports exhaust system are painted in this colour.

MACAN GTS The front apron instantly catches your eye with its large cooling air intakes. The SportDesign package gives the air intake grilles and distinctive airblades a matt black finish. Overall, the front has a wide, sporty appearance that hugs the tarmac.

NEW 718 GTS 4.0 RANGE

The thoroughbred mid-engined roadster: built for a direct and open driving experience. With the new 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and the new 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 in hand, our goal is Col de Turini. With plenty of headwind, plenty of adrenaline, plenty of bends. The legendary pass is draped in unforgettable driving moments. The butterflies begin. The anticipation rises. As does the pulse. These cars represent Sportscar Fascination in its purest form. Especially with the sound: the 4.0-litre, six-cylinder horizontally opposed and naturally aspirated engine is purebred, raw and classic. And not least: thrilling. What else? Mid-engined layout. Typical of the 718. This means excellent handling and agility to make you celebrate every single bend. Just an athletic, well-trained six-pack in Porsche style that brings us back to the core of the dynamic driving experience. Which we just can’t get enough of, so let’s get some more. Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus). The silhouette with the typical mid-engined flyline is unmistakable: the vehicles' centre of gravity and the distance to the road are low. Large wheel arches give the 20-inch 718 Sport wheels painted in satin black the space they deserve. An eye-catcher: the side strips with ‘GTS 4.0’ logo. The rear: clear and reduced. Yet it’s everything but restrained. The separated black tailpipes of the Sports exhaust system indicate unbridled power, and the model logo in black adds the signature touch. In addition, there is a discipline that you don't necessarily expect from a sports car: suitability for everyday use. What other vehicle can give you goosebumps and has two luggage compartments? And lots of well thought-out, useful storage options? So everything fits in. Not least big emotions. All in all, mercilessly beautiful. Beautifully merciless. Simply the new 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and the new 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.

INTERIOR. A place that feels like a second skin. That challenges us – and simultaneously gives us everything. Simply a place that we love. Welcome to the cockpit. Focused on performance-oriented ergonomics, motorsport to touch. One example is the race-track

TRANSMISSION. Forwards. Namely, back to the roots. And for us, that also means: tackle, feel, direct. Six-gears, each better than the one before. Which could cause your muscles to ache. But true sports car driving is also manual work. The precise six-speed manual transmission is fitted with a dual-mass flywheel and brings the high power output of the engine directly to the road. And almost more important: it ensures an extraordinarily sporty driving experience. Performance that touches the heart – the authentic, unadulterated sports car experience. The standard Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) also improves dynamic performance. the integrated rear differential lock enables higher traction and significantly increased lateral dynamics and vehicle stability during load changes in corners and when changing lanes. PTV also enables outstanding steering behaviour and therefore even greater agility. The dynamic throttle-blip function in SPORT mode also plays its part when it comes to dynamically advancing the vehicle.

ENGINE. The next bend awaits. You don’t. The next straight is coming. You’re already right in the middle of it especially with this powerful 4.0-litre six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine and its impressive 294 kW (400 PS). The maximum torque is 5,000 to 6,500 rpm, the maximum engine speed 7,800 rpm. The sprint brings you to 100 km/h in a mere 4.5 seconds. Responsiveness?

CHASSIS. Right bend, left bend and off you go. Thank you, chassis, you are unbelievable. Sportily tuned. Direct steering for excellent cornering performance. Just two features that speak for the PASM sports suspension with ride height lowered by 20mm in lightweight construction. For a little more ground clearance and comfort, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is also available with ride height lowered by 10mm. The electronic damping control system continuously adjusts the damping force on each wheel, based on driving style and current road conditions. It offers two settings which can be selected using a button on the centre console: in ‘Normal’ mode, the shock absorption is a blend of sporty and comfortable, and in 'Sport' mode, it is much firmer. The handling of the 718 GTS 4.0 models: precise, agile. For more driving stability, more driving comfort, more performance. Stop? In a minute. Just one more lap...

9 9 2 9 11 TURBO S “No other sports car reacts to different situations with such aerodynamic flexibility as the new 911 Turbo S, said Dr Thomas Wiegand, Head of Aerodynamics Development at Porsche.

30

P O R S C H E W I L L O U G H B Y. C O M . A U

W

AERODYNAMIC TOUR DE FORCE therefore results in a shorter braking distance and greater driving stability.

“We aerodynamic engineers are normally faced with a dilemma: a low drag coefficient is desirable for maximum speed and low consumption, while a high downforce is advantageous for driving dynamics. However, the two characteristics contradict each other.”

PAA is also used for adaptation to the changed air flow around the vehicle when the sliding roof or convertible top is open. This means that there are a total of eight different aerodynamic configurations, which are each described by a specific combination of the active aerodynamic components.

“Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) resolves the conflicts between these different aerodynamic goals. The comprehensive expansion of the intelligent system in the 911 Turbo S makes it possible to achieve a much larger spread between the aerodynamic configurations for optimum driving dynamics and minimum drag.” “What is more, there is increased potential for the aerodynamic components to support specific driving dynamics demands in every driving situation.”

Improvements have not just been made in adaptation to the specific requirements in driving operation, but also as regards the aerodynamic properties themselves: the newly designed active front spoiler and rear wing have increased the downforce by 15 percent to guarantee enhanced driving stability and dynamics at higher speeds. The maximum downforce in the Performance position (Sport Plus mode activated) is now around 170 kg. The drag coefficient (cd) of the 911 Turbo S varies depending on the aerodynamic setting. The most efficient configuration with the minimum cd value of 0.33 is achieved with closed flaps and retracted front and rear spoilers

The active cooling air flaps are new. Together with the variable front spoiler lip as well as the extending and tilting rear wing, the new top-of-the-range model therefore features three active aerodynamic components. On top of the basic aerodynamic configurations of the 911 Turbo S, namely PAA Speed and PAA Performance, this now permits realisation of an Eco configuration. PAA has also been extended to include a Wet Mode function, which moves the aerodynamic balance towards the rear axle for greater driving stability in wet road conditions. The airbrake function also produces higher drag and greater downforce in the event of full braking at high speed and

HIGHLIGHTS A new 3.8-litre boxer engine with two VTG turbochargers is the beating heart of the car and delivers 51 kW (70 PS) more than its predecessor. The maximum torque now reaches 800 Nm (an increase of 50 Nm). The Turbo-specific eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) cuts the sprint from zero to 100 km/h to 2.7 seconds (a decrease of 0.2 seconds), while the top speed is unchanged at 330 km/h. The dimensions of the 911 Turbo S have been increased significantly in line with the enhanced driving dynamics: the body is now 45 millimetres wider above the front axle (1,840 mm), and the overall width is 1,900 mm above the rear axle (an increase of 20 mm). Modified track widths, further developed aerodynamics and the new mixed-size tyres contribute to its agility and sportiness: the track is now 42 mm wider at the front axle and 10 mm wider at the rear axle. For the first time, the 911 Turbo S transfers its power to the road with mixed tyres in two different sizes: it has 20-inch tyres with their unique 255/35 dimensions at the front and 21-inch 315/30 tyres at the rear. The new six-cylinder engine is aspirated by a new intake system. In this instance, the previous routing of process air and charge air cooling was swapped around: part of the process air now flows through the characteristic Turbo air intakes in the rear side sections. In front of the air filters, now situated in the rear wings, two other airflows have also been incorporated, through the rear lid grille. This means the new 911 Turbo S has four intakes with a larger overall cross-section and lower resistance, helping to improve engine efficiency.

The 911 is ahead of its time – and has been for eight generations.

9 9 2 9 11 TURBO S Thanks to the enhanced Porsche Traction Management (PTM) allwheel drive, the transfer case can distribute significantly more torque, with up to 500 Nm being transferred to the front wheels. The new generation of the standard PASM chassis is also even sportier. Faster and more precisely controlled dampers provide significant advantages to the driving dynamics with respect to roll stability, road holding, steering behaviour and cornering speeds. The interior has a high-quality and sporty finish. The standard equipment list includes a full leather interior and carbon trim in combination with Light Silver accents. The 18-way adjustable sports seats feature stitching that pays homage to the first 911 Turbo (type 930). High-quality graphic elements and logos in the instrument cluster complete the characteristic Turbo S features.

BONITA JONES

For Bonita the beaches of Sydney are a close second to seeing the Porsche passion shared amongst the clients she assists at PCW.

SALES FINANCE MANAGER

What is your role at PCW? I started with PCW on February 5th this year, so very new compared to some of the long-standing employees amongst the team. My role is in finance and insurance. I’ve been supporting Steve with organising finance and insurance for our clients. My role will also encompass assisting our existing finance clients with their maturing contracts. When our clients’ contracts are due to mature or when they’re in a beneficial position to finalise their contract early, my role is to assist, whether clients wish to refinance or purchase their next Porsche.

Tell us a little bit about your motoring background? After working in the corporate travel industry for 10 years, in 2004 I started in a temporary role with another luxury vehicle manufacturer in Melbourne. After one month I joined the team permanently and spent a couple of years in new vehicle sales. I then moved into the Finance Department. I left the industry for a few years to experience other industries, but like most I eventually returned.

What appealed to you about working with the Porsche brand? Porsche’s reputation has always been outstanding. Also, the level of passion shared amongst Porsche owners is incredible. I wanted to understand why and to be a part of it.

What has been your experience working with the PCW team? Upon arriving to PCW at the start of February this year, the welcome was wonderful. It is clear the team enjoy coming here every day and have a great love for the brand. The strange circumstances of the last few months have proven to be challenging for everyone. The strength of the team has shone through, with everyone doing their part to keep our clients happy and to keep the wheels turning every day.

Do you have a favourite model?

GM Sean Lygo and expressed my interest in returning to Sydney. A few months later I was packing up my life in Melbourne and heading north.

Each model offers so much, and they are so different. I would have to say the 992 range is my favourite. Aesthetically it is a stunning example of what Porsche does. As an every day drive it is an absolute pleasure. Having spent time on the track in the 992 as well, it is also great to know what the vehicle is capable of if you want to have a bit more fun.

What has been a highlight during your time at PCW? I was fortunate to be involved in one of our client drive days earlier in the year. Spending time getting to know some of Porsche’s passionate owners and seeing them get the most out of their favourite Porsches under the guidance of our instructors was brilliant.

How do you relax and unwind from a busy day? I love spending time with friends. Going out for dinners is a lovely way to relax after busy days in the showroom. Having recently made the move to Sydney I’ve been enjoying experiencing the city and especially its beaches. During the warmer months you will always find me seaside.

How have you found PCW compared to the likes of the other luxury car brands you’ve worked for? In the past I have worked for dealerships of varying sizes. I really enjoy being part of a smaller team like the one we have at PCW. We all have the opportunity to assist each other and engage with all our clients.

Travel has always been a passion of mine so I’m always keen to see new places and experience different cultures.

How did you find your way here? After growing up in Melbourne, I spent time living in Sydney some years ago. Last year I was working for a Porsche Dealership in Melbourne and started feeling that I wanted to head back to Sydney. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet with our

In the middle of the war, the young company Porsche moved from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen to Gmünd in Carinthia. The first vehicle to bear the name Porsche was built on the premises of a former sawmill. It was followed by a small series of 356 Coupés and Cabriolets which shaped the unique sports car DNA.

Germany in autumn 1943: the company “Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, Konstruktion und Beratung für Motoren- und Fahrzeugbau”, the design office of Ferdinand Porsche, was looking for a new location twelve years after it had been founded. This was due to the bombing raids on Stuttgart, which were becoming more and more frequent and were putting production at risk. In 1944, Ferdinand Porsche therefore moved to the much safer location of Gmünd in Carinthia. The working conditions in the buildings of a former sawmill were more than difficult for the around three hundred company employees. There was a lack of machines, also often a shortage of materials, and the wooden barracks were bursting at the seams. In the machine barracks, space was so tight that the workers could hardly move between the lathes. Additional barracks had to be built for the management and canteen, and a settlement for the design engineers was built in the district of Gries an der Lieser. In spite of this, the location in a remote valley beyond the Großglockner mountain had a priceless advantage: there was hardly any threat from the turmoil of the war and there was above also enough to eat for all employees in the rural location. Ferdinand Porsche was interned by the French as from December 1945. He was released only in 1947 and was formally exonerated in 1948. During this period, the fate of the company was in the hands of Ferdinand’s son, Ferdinand Anton Ernst Porsche, known as Ferry.

“In the beginning I looked around and could not find quite the car I dreamed of. So I decided to build it myself.” The company had to be kept alive and this was achieved above all through design of agricultural machinery such as tractors, cutting fingers and cable winches.

the 356 “No. 1” Roadster with the chassis number 356.001 received its general operating permit.

However, it was a contract for vehicle construction for the type 360 Cisitalia for the Italian race car manufacturer of the same name that provided the funds needed for Ferry Porsche’s dream car. An insight into the Porsche factory building of the 356/2 Coupé in Gmünd, Carinthia In 1948, the time finally arrived. The car was initially still referred to by the designation VW Sport. The tubular frame made of steel supported a body made of aluminium – and therefore reflected the purest motor sports philosophy at the time. Important components such as the front axle, transmission and engine were taken from the Volkswagen “Beetle”. The centrally located engine had a displacement of 1,131 cubic centimetres, but the Porsche engineers succeeded in increasing its power output to 35 PS by means of new cylinder heads and fine tuning. This was sufficient to accelerate the vehicle with a weight of only 585 kilograms to a top speed of 135 km/h. On 8 June, 1948,

It remained a one-off. Work on the 356/2 took place parallel to construction of the “No. 1”, and the first Coupé was completed in August 1948. The basis of the 356/2 models was a steel box frame as the chassis. The output of the four-cylinder boxer engine was increased to 40 PS and the engine was moved to the rear. This created space for jump seats and luggage. The engine of the Porsche 911, the core vehicle of the brand, is still installed behind the rear axle today. 44 Coupés and eight Cabriolet models of the 356/2 were built from winter 1948/49 up to the end of production in Austria in 1950. The Coupé bodies were hammer-formed from aluminium sheets by small specialists such as Kastenhofer, Keibl or Tatra in Vienna and Beutler in Switzerland, while the Cabriolet bodies were supplied by Keibl and Kastenhofer and by Beutler in Thun, Switzerland. These models from Gmünd were what the Porsche brand presented to an international audience at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 1949. When Ferry Porsche took the decision to build “his” 356, he assumed that he would be able to sell around 500 of such sports cars. That was perhaps his only error of judgement: in fact, just under 78,000 Porsche 356 vehicles were built up to 1965.

Performance, safety, freedom. Three things that the Targa has embodied from the outset. Originally developed as a safety cabriolet, the importance of its unique roof design went way beyond mere functionality. It turned the 911 Targa – into an icon.

In the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, this iconic concept, like a unique signature, has been further developed. The roll-over bar invokes the traditional shape. And the fabric hood, with fully automatic opening and closing, meets all of today’s safety and comfort requirements. Featuring historically inspired details, the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is limited to 992 units worldwide. A reference to the new 911 Targa that creates truly unforgettable experiences.

Imagination Knows No Limits. The spirit of the 1950s is also on display in the interior with the perforated AlcantaraÂŽ in Atacama Beige that lines the roof. A reference to the origins of Porsche. Because with the launch of the Porsche 356 A at the end of 1955, the perforated roof lining was also used as a special design feature. Back then, it was made of thin synthetic leather and available in three colours: grey, beige and two-tone beige/grey. Another piece of Porsche history and stylish detail waiting to be discovered is the perforation on the A and B pillars. Corduroy. It was already at home in the Porsche 356, decorating the seats of this legendary sports car. Soft, supple and elegant, it embraced the spirit of the times and the fashion of the decade. And was also a sign of quality, because it allowed for natural seat ventilation, was non-slip and therefore safer. In the interior of the new 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, this fabric is now reviving past dreams: elegant corduroy is used on the door panels and covers the seat centres. A nod to the 1950s that harmoniously completes the two-tone leather interior in Bordeaux Red and OLEA club leather in Atacama Beige exclusively available for this edition. 43

The special 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition decals have their roots in motorsport. A 356 SL with the number 46 took to the grid at the 24h of Le Mans in 1951. The rest is history. Racing history. That’s now being revived: in the form of an optional, unique start number. In keeping with the manually painted ‘spears’ of the 1950s, a high-quality foil stripe adorns the front wings of the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition. In the early days of motorsport, this was initially used to cover up any scuffs caused by collisions. However, this changed over the years – and the functional stripe was transformed into a design feature that almost resembles ‘war paint’. And became a characteristic design feature. As well as a sign of the early trend towards personalisation.

One Special Macan Turbo Porsche Willoughby speaks with Colin Tate and Matthew Fatches about their most recent - and very special Porsche purchase.

A

Colin is the Founder & CEO of Conexus Financial and his husband, Matthew, a talented photographer. The pair are at the dealership today, with Gus the dog, to collect their new mightily optioned Macan Turbo. But before we pull the silk off their showroom new Porsche, let’s learn more about Colin’s history with the brand, beginning with his first ever overseas trip at the age of seventeen. Colin explains: I’d always had a fascination with cars and whilst in Europe I was drawn to visit Porsche in Stuttgart. There was a Porsche museum tour at the time but no factory tour. I found myself loitering in the Porsche staff car park, which was full of fantastic employee Porsche cars. I'm standing captivated by an amazing 928, when a Porsche employee who notices my obsession, walks up to me and says; “would you like to come for a drive?” To this I reply, “Are you kidding, of course!” Next thing I know I’m in the passenger seat belting down an Autobahn not far from the Porsche factory. I'm very happy to be a passenger, yet to my astonishment he pulls over to the

the benefits of a dealership bought Porsche and in acknowledgment, I decided to take his advice and replace it. This is when I had my first really great Porsche, the last of the 928 grand tourers in the GT.

side of the road and lets me drive the car! I drove it all the way back to the factory and into the car park. I must have been two months into my seventeenth year on the planet, so this was definitely a highlight. He gave me his business card and I made a promise to him that I'd buy one of these cars one day; he said he was the chief designer of the 928!

It was that twenty-seven years ago I purchased a white 928 GT with a rare manual transmission from the Willoughby dealership which marked the beginning of my Porsche journey with PCW. Twenty-seven years on, together with my husband Matthew, we took delivery of our seventh Porsche, this striking Macan petrol twin turbo in white on white wheels and white interior. Matthew is the man behind the options configuration - he sings the praises of the Porsche Car Configurator and its ability to customise the Macan to an individual’s taste, but more on that later...

Eight years later I kept my promise and bought my first 928 on my twenty-fifth birthday. As a matter of fact, twenty-five years old was the youngest I could be insured to drive one! My first Porsche was a green 928 S, which I bought off a dealer on Victoria Road in Sydney. Within a short amount of time, I ended up at Porsche Centre Willoughby trying to fix some of the concerns it had. I met Sean Lygo early in the piece and he saw me pay more money fixing this car than I did to purchase it!

Following the white 928 GT, I bought the last of the aircooled 911s in a 993 Carerra 4; a sexy Black Metallic Coupe which shared the Turbo model's wide hips but had the naturally aspirated engine and the wider tyres resulting in excellent roadholding.

I have to say that the 928 S is a glorious machine, but unfortunately the one I purchased had not been well maintained by the previous owner. Sean explained

"PCW are just outstanding, honestly the business is so well run, the staff experiences are always excellent. Anywhere else is just not the same."

Next up was the gayest Porsche ever - a Speed Yellow Boxster S [laughs]! The Boxster was the new kid on the block and shone bright in the press of the time. In the early 2000’s I was seen driving around in it, wearing my matching bright yellow shoes. That car with its mid-mounted engine balance really was a lot of fun. From there I moved to a black 996 911 C4S which was just magic, in retrospect I should have kept it. A beautiful car and magnificent specification. Matt then purchased a black Macan Turbo which now being 5 years old is moving across to my dad - and that to be frank - it has been the best-value Porsche we have owned. The next one was a silver 991 911 Carrera S in Agate Grey Metallic, I purchased this car sight unseen from Sean, who simply said I’d love it, a much larger more modern version of the 911. I strayed from the marque at this point and bought a Ferrari California, but I found myself enthralled with Matthews black Macan Turbo, it was such a better car and nearly a third of the price! I've been there and done that with a Ferrari. I feel like I won't buy another, but in doing so I’ve discovered the distinguishing feature between the two brands the manufacturing quality and the care. Simply put the other dealer just weren’t Porsche Centre Willoughby. PCW are just outstanding, honestly the business is so well run, the staff experiences are always excellent. Anywhere else is just not the same.

We live down here on the South Coast of Sydney, just south of the Royal National Park. Our regular drive to and from the office is characterised by coastal cliffs, secluded beaches and eucalyptus-rich bushland. Each time is like a Porsche drive day in itself.

Sean Lygo General Manager of Porsche Willoughby says: “… the options list on this Macan Turbo is extensive and the end result is a credit to Colin and Matthew for creating such a unique motor vehicle.”

The theme on this new Macan Turbo is to build a sportier, racier Porsche. Many options were ticked like Porsche Sport Chrono and Torque Vectoring Plus. Outside the addition of carbon scallops on the doors and the contrasting red model designation ensured the car would not be lost in the crowd. Inside, Matthew loves the two-tone colour-coding interior with the Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System. The Porsche brand door logo projector lights are a fun addition.

When not driving their Porsche, Colin & Matthew spend their time in the philanthropic world. Colin spent seven years on the board of Wayside Chapel (one of the two charity organisations they support) and underwriting 60,000 people in Uganda these past 12 years through The Hunger Project. Ben Drew, Sales Operations Manager of Porsche Willoughby said: “It was wonderful to see the looks on the boys faces when the silk came off the car. Happy owners create very special moments for us at PCW.”

Dr Robert Drielsma My Porsche journey started when I was introduced to Porsche by a friend of mine about 20 years ago. I always thought they were beautiful looking cars but had never ventured into ownership. My toe in the water beginning was by means of a 986 Porsche Boxster and as they say; one good turn deserves another.

As time went on, that 997 Turbo became a 991.2 911 Turbo S and around this time I felt like my recreational driving was moving in a track day focused direction. Although the Turbo S is a supremely capable Grand Tourer and can hold its own on the track, I felt now my needs were better suited to something made specifically for track time by the Porsche Motorsport division.

So after a couple of years I found the team at Porsche Willoughby and progressed to the next generation 987 Boxster. These two cars were superbly balanced cars, greatly nimble everyday machines. I then stepped to a 996 911 Carrera 4S, this was my first foray into the 911 world. My Porsche trajectory jumped again when I saw a very special, manual gearbox 997 911 Turbo on the showroom floor at Porsche Willoughby. I remember asking Sean Lygo; “is that for sale?” and Sean replying “well actually yes…”

It was then that I moved to the ownership of this car, the 700 HP Porsche 991.2 911 GT2 RS. I again found this beautiful car on the showroom floor of Porsche Willoughby. It was optioned with the Weissach package: which focuses on weight saving, for example the magnesium wheels painted in satin White Gold Metallic which are about 11.5 kg lighter than the standard wheel, these are covered with the

"Definitely on my bucket list is going to Ice Force, getting back into a Turbo S shod with spiked tyres and drifting" factory Sport Cup 2 Michelin tyres. I also have a set of harder wearing HRE track wheels with the Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R tyres. As a busy Sydney Plastic Surgeon specialising in breast and facial rejuvenation, I have an eye for beauty and aesthetics which attracts me to the Porsche brand. Porsches are beautifully designed and engineered vehicles. Their DNA is derived from a passion for motorsport and performance. What differentiates the Porsche brand from others is, among other things, superior design and engineering resulting in an ultra reliable and dependable machine. Porsches are magnificent road vehicles, but when pushed to do what they are made for, which is motorsport, they perform time after time after time with a reliability that is not matched by any other brand. It was actually PCW who assisted in my focus on track based driving; I found myself doing more and more track days and starting to arrange my schedule around them. With instructor insight and time behind the

wheel I’ve really enjoyed the progression. I love being around like-minded people to share in conversations about circuit driving and car dynamics, it just gets into your blood. What’s interesting is every instructor has different tips and different styles of driving, so I like to take it all in and do my best to integrate that direction into my driving. Plus on the PCW Drive Days, everyone's respectful and looks after their cars, leading to people coming home with smiles on their faces and straight panels. Definitely on my bucket list is going to Ice Force, getting back into a Turbo S shod with spiked tyres and drifting on the ice tracks of the Porsche Driving Experience in Levi Finland, sounds wonderful! What's impressive is the way that Porsche Willoughby involves customers in Motorsport and generally uses the cars the way they were made to be used. It's a welcoming family and I appreciate the friendly environment they provide whenever I get time to visit.

My adventure began in Germany, where I met up with two Porsche Centre Willoughby clients; our mission was to visit Deutschland’s automotive sights. This involved three wonderful museums and an Autobahn heroic moment. Two cities had our attention: Munich and Stuttgart, the latter being the home of the Porsche Museum. I literally ran the battery flat in my phone taking photographs of this amazing place. These three days spent in Germany were a car enthusiast's paradise and a perfect lead into our time in Finland for the Porsche Ice Experience.

Paddocks, Circles, Figures of Eight, Oval, Flick Squares...

These are keywords and the

daily programme of the Porsche Ice Experience. Porsche Centre

We arrived three days early to acclimatise to the cold. This time allowed for; dog sledding, snowmobiling and ice go karting. Yes ice go karting! Drifting a kart on ice was a great opportunity for our group to warm-up and get familiar with the icy conditions ahead of the program. This was immense fun and if you were keen it was possible to navigate the entire track in a slide.

landscape of Levi Finland.

From the start they had us in the classroom and we were talking about weight shifting, transfer of tyre loads and what happens with the car in this environment. It was great to get the mind tuned in to that way of thinking and this was the theory our group was hungry for. Porsche Willoughby was hosting twenty clients for the event and at the welcome dinner it was great to hear the anticipation in all voices present for the days to come! The following morning, we huddled together at the meeting point. Two large doors swung open to reveal a room full of Porsche cars with studded tyres primed and ready to go. This awe-inspiring sight had everyone pumped. The instructors started everyone quite slowly by doing simple circle work; it was a chance to dip your toe in the‌ ice. The first day was figuring out what the cars do, it was a mixture of launching, sliding and getting to know the friction levels we were dealing with. The interesting part I found was the planning and thinking ahead to where you were headed and how and where the car was positioned throughout the track so as to be in the right position for the next section; it was a lot like playing snooker. There are no quick fixes to a sliding car on ice; smooth progressive and delicate motion was the call of the day and hard track influenced pedal work was out.

The light was fading and I was just going around and around and around for nearly 2 hours! I almost ran the 911 out of fuel just sliding for a phenomenal amount of time. It was near to automotive perfection as one can imagine just ridiculous fun! We were on aggressive winter tyres with 4 mm studs, so the traction was surprisingly good. The actual winter playground area is a massive piece of snow covered swam-area and from January to March, Porsche have their Ice Experience in full swing. Of the many impressive elements to this operation, one is how the cars dealt with driving all day without issue. Even the occasional need to be pulled out of a snow bank didn’t rattle these cars.

plenty of power on offer; in fact, it seemed limitless. It was easy to go a little too fast, at one point I was trying to link two corners and noticed a photographer. The lesson that followed taught that with smaller studs comes less traction when slowing down and it was time to call for the Cayenne… My overall impression of the Taycan was that it had a great feel to it. It is definitely a new direction. I chose to drive without the option of artificial noise because the tyre noise on the ice was so evident. I think I could feel the two-speed gearbox changing… I did find it a little strange not being able to change down a gear coming into a corner, but I’m sure that would vanish with more time behind the wheel.

Speaking of snow banks, if during the learning process, you went wide and discovered the embankment, you would call the tow Cayenne and help would be on the way in the form of a Porsche rescue vehicle. The experience was very progressive; you would use the skills from the day before and build on the experience gained. The driving increased technically each day and tracks got more advanced, from just sliding, to a slide and a transition, to linking corners and tightening radius curves etc. Delicate throttle and brake control was required and all movements had consequence and reward.

A fun fact: when braking the car, the first part of the braking process is regenerative through the car’s electric motors, so the pads are not actually touching the brake rotors until you push harder on the pedal. This process happens unnoticed, it's a natural feeling. It is very impressive, the Porsche engineers have done a great job on this car and that is evident in the press.

The most enjoyable time for me was on the last day at about 2 pm our Porsche Experience Instructor Axel said “You've got two hours to go. Everyone is driving really well. We haven't had anyone call for a tow, keep going and doing what you are doing”. The joy of these two hours will stay with me for a while, I had my heated steering wheel and seats on and a beautiful panoramic view in front of me. The light was fading and I was just going around and around and around for nearly 2 hours! I almost ran the 911 out of fuel just sliding for a phenomenal amount of time. It was near to automotive perfection as one can imagine just ridiculous fun!

We had four people in the Taycan per lap as it has four comfortable seats. Driver and passengers noticed the low down in the chassis seating position - this car is a different kind for Porsche. I was looking forward to getting back in the 911 though, as that is where I had spent most of my time and I felt they were more adjustable with the gearbox and longer studded tyres. The entire event was run like clockwork. You would drive in at the end of the day and the cars were all cleaned, refuelled and made ready for the next day of drifting. The mighty winter Porsche garage was ready to go every morning!

On the last day in the morning we got to sample Porsche’s new electric hero, the Porsche Taycan. I found driving it very interesting. In the driver’s seat it’s very Porsche. The seating position, steering wheel and the pedal feel are all familiar. You could feel the weight of the car and the inertia on the snow emphasised this slight weight increase; in saying that, the car has 760 horsepower so we were not left wanting!

The concept of sharing the cars with another participant throughout the experience made for great camaraderie amongst the attendees. There would be inspiring talk in the cabins, each willing the other on to the next learning phase. Porsche, my hat is off to you for an incredible event! But a word of caution to my customers - be careful the Ice Experience is one very addictive holiday.

Intentionally the traction and speed was dialled back via the use of 1mm studded tyres. It was harder to slide the car, by use of the brakes on turn in, so you had to use the power and there was
