2017 BUT WAIT....
2017 But Wait... Drop Ins and managing expectations for outcomes (fruitful). Sitting at the Universita in Carlton waiting for my 12.00 meeting with an author, publishers and no keyboard to use. This is the story of the republishing of Max, out of print for years and still one of the indelible YA novels of my time. Hopefully it makes it to this new title order form. The author Michael Hyde is somewhat a legend in the area of YA; an established author of some 30 works of non-fiction and fiction, the latter mainly for adolescents and young adults, several receiving Australian Children’s Book Council awards. Max, Tyger Tyger, Hey Joe and Surfing Goliath as well as his sports series, Change the Game are some of his best known and widely read works. We have arranged special pricing of both Hey Joe & Tyger Tyger. Had a call from Debbie McInnes this morning who has pitched the new Grahame Bond novel (you will remember Grahame from Auntie Jack all those years ago). We are going to distribute as the media is set for mid November and a launch at Gleebooks. I am assured the media will be both present and strong with a Richard Fidler interview to top off with. Last night I read the John Harms blog and identified we are getting The Tigers Almanac 2017 in November; publishing on a quick turnaround. Based on our success with last year's Bulldogs book we will sell plenty. Another drop in is the Flavours of Tasmania which has emerged as a November release and sure to be a highlight of the Tasmanian book Christmas. The point is that we have to react to meet publisher expectations and that means we are sometimes out of sync with how the big houses have whopping lead times. It is what it is Media I have been reading the Saturday Australian with keen interest recently as it seems very book focussed. Last week was the continuing story of Innocence Revisited - this was a JoJo original which is now only available to my knowledge as an eBook. The week before it had 7 pages in the Weekend Australian magazine. Another week had both a lead story on the release of Picnic at Hanging Rock and the update on the Perth killing of a Brothel madam. Picnic at Hanging Rock has one of the lead actresses from Game of Thrones and has been sold to the US Amazon Prime - where 60% of US homes will watch. Our relationship is with the Secret of Hanging Rock - the missing chapter. As soon as we get get an indication of release date we will increase our stock holding of our tie-in book.
Words from the Wise The other story of the assassinated madam has a more obtuse relationship. The story works on the consideration that perhaps Neddy Smith was the perpetrator. We have just uploaded Neddy as an ebook and will see how the sums work for a short printing. The story published three years ago of this killing was The Dirty Girl this was originally published by David Conners (Alto Books) and as he had deceased the author & agent went to Fontaine in Perth. I have asked Fontaine if there will be a commercial print run. So the books and the media continue unabated. That why we have our December But wait ... new title release as this is response to publisher activity. There will not be a December 3. This weekend we have had Iron Roads in the Outback author Nick Anchen on "Australia All over with Ian McNamara", Tom Thompson (Publisher at ETT) giving some meaning to the Landline feature In Beersheba this weekend as we come up to the 100th Anniversary on 31st October. We have the tie in book as well as the famed Ion Idriess The Desert Column and also advance notice that the Beersheba books will be a big part of the Weekend Australian magazine feature on weekend of 28th October. Another book that won't leave the headlines is Joy Nason's story - Joy & Sorrow; this time Michael Bachelard has done another huge profile of the The Exclusive Brethren in the Fairfax media. No doubt about the durability of some of the publishers works, their subjects and the authors. Thank you. On the December 1 new title release we over 60 titles from Australian publishers, this new title order form has over 45 titles from Australian publishers. I think we would release more new Australian authored books than any publisher or distributor - it won't stop. We also had a helpful visit from Bruce Powell (APA / titlepage) to again consider the potential costs and upside of joining that business; we are still considering as it is a huge outlay and a fair amount of additional work with our +1000 Australian publishers. Personal notes: Jos Kevan takes long service leave over Christmas (starting in November - have a great time and welcome back for Feb 2018). Good fortune in health and reading. DJ

The Tigers' Almanac 2017 is the story of Richmond's 2017 premiership. A squad of over thirty mad Tiges give an account of the season ‐ and of the tragi‐comedy that has been the last 37 years. This book is full of memoir, reporting, reflection and unadulterated joy. It's full of laughs and tears and will remind the Richmond faithful of a brilliant (and cathartic) year.

'Babe' meets 'Heart of Darkness.' - Pig Breeders' News Kevin Hunter, a crass Australian advertising exec turned renowned tribal art collector, travels to the wilds of the mythical island of Malaka with his personal biographer, to find the mysterious Gopi people, a reclusive tribe of brilliant artists and retired pygmy headhunters. To achieve cut through with the native tribes, Kevin has taken to wearing bright pink safari suits, his first rule of advertising being 'Have a point of fuckin' difference!' Having had little contact with Westerners, the Gopi elders are both impressed and envious of this wealthy, honey tongued philistine and they give Hunter creative control over their tribal art and artists. With unlimited power, Kevin Hunter, the frustrated creative, commercialises the Gopi's traditional art to make it 'more accessible, ' thus sending the artists in a direction that threatens to destroy thousands of years of tribal culture. Where Kevin Hunter is corrupted by power and control, the Gopi are naively led into a school of popular art. To market his 'new wave primitive' brand, Kevin finally realizes his ambition and takes the Gopi artists to New York City with disastrous consequences.

Grahame Bond began his career in entertainment at Sydney University in the 60s as a founding student member of the Architecture Revue. These shows also involved his University friends Geoffrey Atherden, Peter Weir, Peter Best and Rory O'Donoghue. In 1970, Bond wrote and performed Hamlet on Ice and in 1971, created the Australian TV series Aunty Jack. This groundbreaking show was such a success that others soon followed, including Flash Nick From Jindavick, Wollongong The Brave and the Off Show. In 1997, Aunty Jack appeared on British television in Not the Aunty Jack Show on LWT. In 1978, Bond and Jim Burnett wrote the musical Boys Own McBeth, which toured Australia successfully for two years and also played in Los Angeles. In the 1980s, Bond wrote and produced the musical Captain Bloody for The Elizabethan Theatre Trust. He worked extensively with his musical partner Rory O'Donoghue, winning in 1981 the AFI music award for the Fatty Finn soundtrack. A highlight of the 1980s was performing stand-up comedy at the opening of Sanctuary Cove on the same bill as Frank Sinatra. In 1990, Bond opened his own advertising agency, winning many blue chip clients before selling it in 1996 for the chance to travel. It was while overseas that Bond was asked to host Better Homes and Gardens, Australia's triple Logie Award-winning lifestyle program. In recent years, Bond has traveled to some remarkable places as an adventurer. He spent time in Jordan with Australian archaeologists and from this experience, produced a half-hour documentary The Volunteer. He has trekked in Nepal, canoed in Kakadu, cycled from Hanoi to Saigon and traveled to Papua, New Guinea to shoot another documentary.

After 45 years, here is the first book on the SUNBURY rock festival, the festival that is often referred to as 'Australia's Woodstock', that heralded a revolution in Australian music and culture. This book explores the history of the Sunbury rock festivals which were staged over the Australia Day long weekends of 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975. These, and the festivals which immediately preceded them, were staged at a time of renewal in Australian political and cultural life and a new awakening of national identity. The emphasis is on the first festival in 1972 as this was the ground‐breaking event which, if it did not conceive Aussie pub rock was, at the very least, the midwife. In that birth can be seen the beginnings of Australian rock music transitioning from a poor cousin to that in America and the United Kingdom to an active export industry. Sunbury '72 is covered in detail, with the emphasis on subsequent festivals being on the changes which occurred both in the event and in the dominant music scene at the time. The book identifies the strength of the Sunbury festivals in the organisation that lay behind them, which allowed them to be more than just a single event. It also explores the musical highlights of the festivals and the experiences of those who attended. The book is heavily based on official documents and an extensive oral history program undertaken by the author.
Author Information Peter Evans was involved in the staging of the Sunbury Festivals from day one and designed and operated the stage lighting for the first three festivals. He attended the fourth and final festival as a guest of the organisers. For the fortyfour years between January 1969 and October 2013, Peter worked in the technical sector of the performing arts. This included three years in theatre, television and rock music lighting; seventeen years in film, television, radio and live audio production; and twenty-four years in the technical production of corporate theatre, including AGMs, product launches, and major public celebrations. Interspersed in those years were three years of professional heritage assessment and report writing. He is currently semi-retired, and works part-time in the steam operations department of a large regional museum. The remainder of his time is taken up with the writing of books, magazine articles and heritage assessments. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

Heartwood challenges the entrenched view that when it comes to forests, one is either a conservationist or a profiteer. Forest scientist Rowan Reid draws on over twenty years of experience and study to offer a third way: where growing trees for profit can have a positive environmental impact. He challenges the ideological poles that dominate the debate and offers a scientific view on how anyone with the necessary land and time can grow their own trees and profit from them while improving the soil, water and ecosystem. Rowan also shares the personal story and family history that lead him to his revolutionary new approach. He shares his passion for native trees and provides the practical information that readers will need to understand and grow trees of their own.
Author Information
Rowan Reid (B.For.Sci. & M.For.Sci.) is a forester amongst farmers. His passion for trees began as a child in the coastal eucalypt forests of southern Victoria and has led to a life teaching and working with farmers around the world. Rowan won the 2001 Australian Eureka Prize for Excellence in Environmental Education for his farmer course (The Australian Master TreeGrower), which he continues to deliver around Australia and internationally (Africa, Timor Leste, Indonesia etc.). A Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne for 20 years, Rowan continues his academic teaching and research as a Senior Fellow of the university and the managing director of the Australian Agroforestry Foundation (a not-for-profit organisation). Since the publication of Agroforestry in Australia and New Zealand (1985), Rowan has written or co-authored eight other books and is an internationally recognised leader in farmer education and extension. Most importantly, Rowan is also a farmer and tree grower in his own right, with a family farm in the Otway Ranges of southern Victoria and a founder of one of Australia’s most successful Landcare groups, the Otway Agroforestry Network. More than 10,000 visitors have toured his Bambra Agroforestry Farm, which is set up as a 42-hectare outdoor classroom for farmers, scientists, students and tree lovers, and a living laboratory for his own learning.

'Every Day of My Life' is the remarkable tale of how Beeb Birtles conquered the music world ‐ and then lost the band he'd helped form. Gerard Bertlekamp arrived in Australia in the 1970s, a Dutch boy with no English. Within a short space of time he developed his love of music and adopted the stage name of Beeb Birtles. Beeb became part of the pop sensation of the 70s, Zoot, along with Darryl Cotton and Rick Springfield. Beeb then went on to become one of the founding members of Little River Band (LRB), which was the first Australian band to break into the elusive American market and have a gold album in the US. Their hits include: 'Reminiscing', 'Help is On its Way', 'Lonesome Loser', 'Curiosity (killed the cat)', 'Happy Anniversary', 'Lady,' 'It's a Long Way There' and "Every Day of My Life'. 'Every Day of My Life' is Beeb's story: raw, honest and a fascinating insight into the music world and one man's love of music.
Author Information Beeb Birtles (born Gerard Bertelkamp) is a Dutch‐Australian musician, singer, songwriter and guitarist. He has been a member of various Australian bands including Zoot, Mississippi, Little River Band and Birtles Shorrock Goble. He has also worked as a solo artist and producer. Birtles has been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and the SA Music Hall of Fame. He lives in Nashville with his wife and two daughters.

A photographic voyage through the islands of Bass Strait and around Tasmania. Peter Hendrie sailed to destinations that are rarely visited such as the Kent Group in Bass Strait and the Davey River Gorges in the South‐West wilderness. The book is a compilation of photographs from the perspective of the water and from the air of the coastal regions, islands and river systems of Tasmania. Getting together a crew that at times comprised experienced sailors and other times complete novices he sailed from his base in Melbourne to King and Flinders islands, as well as the little known Kent Island Group in Bass Strait. Gaining experience and confidence with every voyage into the notoriously gale prone waters of Bass Strait he sailed down Tasmania's isolated west coast and into Macquarie and Bathurst Harbours in the South‐West wilderness and up the Gordon, Franklin and Davey Rivers. Sailing across the bottom of Tasmania through the waters known as the Roaring 40's and into the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, past the stunning cliffs of the Tasman and Freycinet Peninsulas he captured images of a side of Tasmania rarely seen.

Eloise is the former chef‐proprietor of her renowned Mussel Boys restaurant on the Tasman Peninsula. Eloise says, "former guests of the restaurant will be very pleased to hear that a few of my most popular secret recipes from the restaurant are now published in Seafood Everyday!". Scenic photographs of the spectacular Tasman Peninsula area are scattered throughout the book, and Eloise counts the cover photograph of sunrise at the Tessellated Pavement at Eaglehawk Neck as one of her triumphs. "I tried to get this picture on three different occasions, and finally the conditions were just perfect and I could get the picture that I had been imagining!" said Eloise. This photograph was picked up on social media by Tourism Tasmania, Tourism Australia and local tourism associations, receiving over 80 000 'likes' on social media channels.

The Real Food for Kids Cook book is a unique cookbook designed for parents to share with their children. Created and written by talented Tasman chef Eloise Emmett, 'The Real Food for Kids Cookbook' brings something exciting and fresh to the Tasmanian kitchen and table. "Kids love helping in the kitchen so why not get them involved! I am passionate about 'real food', simple, unpretentious 'home-grown', homecooked food to prepare and share with my children. Cooking is creative, and can be exciting, stimulating and fun whilst helping kids develop an appreciation for and love of good food. Kids learn that 'real food', grown and cooked with love can be delicious as well as nutritious!" "Cooking is also a great way for parents and kids to share a meaningful experience, whilst also providing a perfect opportunity to experiment and develop skills important for healthy development." The recipes are designed for parents and kids of 'all ages' to share, starting with the simplest recipes and progressing to the more complex". The emphasis of The Real Food for Kids Cookbook is on simple recipes that are easy to follow, packed with flavour and that incorporate lots of fun techniques to entertain the kids and keep them engaged. "Cooking will only remain a cool activity if the kids are having fun and the food is delicious!" Incorporating traditional methods of food preparation is also a core element of the cookbook. "Traditional methods of food preparation are much more tactile and inject and element of fund into the whole cooking experience. And yes, fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your perspective) that means sticky hands and faces and plenty of mess in the kitchen - in other words kids heaven!" This work of fiction is based on the unsolved murder of BETTY SHANKS in Brisbane, 1952. Many claim this is when Brisbane lost its innocence. In four parts, it examines Betty's life, friends, enemies and her murder. Innocent girls and women are used and abused by Big Neville and his gang. Betty's best friend, Noelene, shows Betty the magic of The Inlet of Little Fishes. A key character wakes from a coma to identify the killers. An intelligent young girl with unusual powers helps the women seek revenge and redemption while escaping to a hide‐away in North Queensland. A giant crocodile plays its part.

In Valerie's lifelong search for her identity, and her sense of belonging, she will discover not only her parentage, but also her family history. What she uncovers is a wealth of true ancestral stories of pioneering and determination. Her forebears came from all corners of Great Britain, the first of which arrived in the Colony of New South Wales in 1808. Some arrived in chains ‐ others came freely. Among their stories was a mid‐Atlantic sinking; an unjust and cruel period in the history of the military penal colony of Norfolk Island, and a glimpse into the first share farming venture in Australia. Family chronicles were discovered stretching from the early settlement along the Nepean and Hawkesbury Rivers, to the beginning of the Mitchell‐Line‐of‐Road past Rydal to Bathurst in the 1830's, and also from Bathurst to Orange, Grenfell to Coonabarabran, and from New England to the North‐West Plains. The author has mingled these true‐life sagas with a dash of fiction to weave her family tree, not only as a memorial to these pioneers but, essentially, to reinforce the need of every human being to know the intrinsic truth of their own origins.

A seer is someone who sees what is hidden and Serah Kohw was meant to see but wasn't interested with the unexplained. To her, a life beyond her own didn't exist. Until a friend opens her eyes. By travelling to other countries, Serah is introduced to something extraordinary, an experience not found in a tour brochure. But her path is diverted when her protector interferes. Past spirits appear, and Serah has to make a decision as destiny awaits but the visions are difficult to accept. She wants to flee but to get to the future, Serah has to spend time deciphering clues from the past. And only then can YOU see...
Author Information Some say stories come from the pub after a few glasses of spirits. Others have different theories. As reading didn’t fit into my busy life, I didn’t have an opinion. Then a moment of boredom brought on a change. A spirit appeared and I found myself travelling to other countries for confirmation of what I was told. I decided on taking normal tours but before I knew it, a barrier was broken. Others had knowledge to share and when a soul mate appeared, my diary changed to a story of magic, romance and the supernatural. There was too much interference so I put up a fight as I believed my spirit was my own. I couldn’t accept there was more to my life and an immortal soul could be split but I couldn’t win against the inevitable. My eyes were opened and once the pen hit the paper, I found myself sharing stories from spirits.

It is not through modesty that the author and illustrator are hiding behind their chosen pseudonyms. Both are Members of a Sydney Club that traditionally prefers to stay out of the public spotlight. As loyal club‐members, they have decided to abide by that tradition. This volume is one of many published by The Svengali Press (recently DH Lawrence's 99 Days in Australia). The stories of Renate Yates are admired for their exploration of the foibles, frailties and expectations of people. They are beautifully crafted and perceptive. Renate Yates is also the author of three novels and the translation of an account written by her father Ernst Raubitschek of his journey to and imprisonment in the Dachau Concentration camp: By Train To Dachau. Her short stories have been published in many literary journals and compilations, and this updated collection contains many new stories, which are most welcome.

Available Now This is the story of a journey to Southern California, home of the American Dream, in search of fame and fortune. An Australian couple of mixed German-Chinese origin with their six-year old son Maximilian leave their settled life in Sydney to move to California. The boy's Mandarin name is Xiaolong, meaning Little Dragon, and the dream of his mother is that he will one day become the number one golf player in the world. She has contacted Tiger Woods' first professional coach who is supposed to take the boy under his wings, and she is determined to make her dream come true. The book follows Maximilian's exposure to playing junior golf, the highlights and pitfalls along with the emotional ups and downs of children involved in competitive sport, and their parents' sometimes conflicting and contradictory expectations, culminating in an account of Maximilian competing at the Junior World Championship in San Diego. But 'The Dragon Mother's Dream' is more than a book about golf. Part travelogue and part parenting memoir, it is a journal about living in one of the most privileged places in California. It documents the everyday realities and idiosyncracies of the contemporary American way of life, recorded with great precision and attention to detail by an Australian writer of European roots and - sometimes satirical, often ironic - sensibilities. At the end of the book, the mother's dream takes an unexpected twist.

Lou is now 32 ‐ at least his memory is. Lou died 17 years ago. He is a fictional character but his problems are only too real and relevant today. Michael Hyde's Max is a timeless classic about youth suicide, survivor grief and reconciliation. A kayak floats gently downstream on a river of dreams. Stories by their thousands run in subterranean currents telling Max that if he's here for no other reason at all, it is to tell his story. Lou is dead. Killed himself. And now, everyone is worried about Max, his best mate. 'Michael Hyde describes rivers and beaches like a fast‐lane thriller writer and he describes Max's misadventures like an artist. There's a lot to enjoy here ‐ and a lot to think about.' ‐ Jenny Pausacker

Johnny is dogged by a constant nightmare where he follows, and then is hunted himself, by a dark animal he doesn't recognise. Sometime in 2012 a copy of Pig's Head (published 1994) was seen for sale in a bookshop in Boston, Massachusetts, for $400. First editions of contemporary Australian fiction seldom fetch such prices. What was it about this one? Pig's Head earned for its author the accolade 'Best New Oz Crime Writer' of the year by the Sydney Morning Herald: 'A new voice in Australian crime fiction, and a very good one, comes from David Owen, a white African now in Tasmania...Heineken is a tough, cynical, deadpan operator...with an engagingly droll world view, which he seldom deigns to share with his fellow officers...The mystery is well‐crafted and credible, but the true joys of this novel are Pufferfish's gimlet‐eyed observations and the Tasmanian backdrop, which Owen paints in loving, if amused detail (greenies in Blundstone boots, mass escapes from the salmon farms, English potters gone bush etc). No blow‐in's easy superiority here. Welcome aboard, Tasmania.' Demand has been constant for the first four Pufferfish novels ‐ long since out of print and very hard to find.

Seeking answers to myriad tricky questions, Detective Inspector Franz Heineken, aka Pufferfish, aka long‐time Aussie blow‐in, knows where he must go ‐ to the two Australian places he never wanted to investigate, let alone re‐visit: the fabled Red Centre, and his ethically questionable past. "The writing is funny and sharp, and loaded with attitude and local colour... For those lucky crime fans who will discover him for the first time, the good news is his new publisher has indicated his back catalogue will be re‐released."
Across the wilds of Tasmania, from the majestic Central Plateau to remote Arthur River and using his intimate knowledge of the the island's people, Pufferfish aims himself at the increasingly dangerous mystery of Romeo's Gun. And at the evil predators stalking his patch. David Owen brings us the eighth Pufferfish novel.

Tasmania's rise and rise as a tourist destination makes the island an ideal location for the cashed‐up international polo set, jetting in from Europe, Buenos Aires, Shanghai and LA for their late summer carnival and relaxathon in the world's latest clean‐green hotspot. They play fiercely and party hard at the swish Polo Palace, built near beautiful beaches through the largesse of an island‐loving, polo‐mad billionaire Bahraini businessman. So when this idyll is gruesomely interrupted by the murder of Sebastian Wicken, a dashing and wealthy Englishman famous for wielding his stick and ball, Pufferfish, aka seasoned Detective Inspector Franz Heineken of the Tasmanian Police Force, is called to investigate. And investigate he does. For starters, what possible relationship could there be between this visiting bludgeoned aristocrat and Tassie's worst‐ of‐the‐worst career villain, psychopathic Morgan Murger? What ghastly behaviour unites them in blood? Pufferfish and his offsiders Rafe and Faye, work double time to try and fathom who did what to whom, and why ‐ while keeping an antsy tourist industry at bay ‐ but then the strange intrusion of a quavery voice from rural England, being

A young Australian travelling for academic purposes in Europe visits a monastery in Spain and is waylaid by an old man selling his produce by the roadside at a nearby war cemetery. He innocently asks about the massive eucalypt trees in the monastery grounds and is then entranced by the old man and the story he tells of their history which weaves together the secret 16th‐century exploration of Terra Australis, the Emperor Charles V, the dedication of a botanist, fundamentals of gardening and the wonder of Nature. "I found myself translating a story written by someone I hardly knew, about some apparently incomprehensible fantastical old man in the middle of nowhere telling his story involving ancient Spanish historical figures, to an unnamed and bewildered young foreigner with little command of the language." ‐ Irene Esteve Gúrpide ‐ translator

Ranefer, a high‐achieving priest, knew about a phenomenon where rocks fall from the stars onto the earth. Such rocks were called meteorites and one was found in the Sahara hundreds of years ago, called the Bennu. Ever since the Bennu has been exuding a strange power that could potentially be used for benevolent purposes. However, when the Bennu is captured by the henchmen of a psychopath it becomes the ultimate talisman for death and destruction. Ranefer is summoned by the Pharaoh and sent on a perilous mission to save Egypt. Amid the carnage of insane violence and the intrigue of uncovering an ancient secret, Ranefer knows that ultimately he must defeat a very powerful and malicious enemy: The Shadow Hawk.

When Professor Lloyd Marsden is found murdered in the Museum of Victoria, Special Detective Sam Diamond is assigned to catch the killer. Thrown into a world of obsessive collectors, strange poisons, funerary rites and ancient artefacts, Sam's photographic memory and cryptic crossword skills are invaluable tools in her investigation. But, when archaeologist Dr Maggie Tremaine whisks her halfway around the world in pursuit of the truth, Sam finds way more questions than answers. From Australia to Egypt to Peru, Sam and Maggie hunt down the clues to a strange pact and a legendary relic.
Author Information Lindy is an Australian writer of crime fiction and fact – who long ago gave up the fantasy of growing up to be a famous scientist. The fact that she still harbours a desire to be an astronaut, a warrior chick or an Apache Longbow helicopter pilot would hint that she perhaps hasn’t, however, grown up much at all. Lindy’s first published novel was the archaeological adventure Golden Relic. Before being a paperback it was serialised a chapter a month, for 10 months, on the internet as a promotional lead-up to the prestigious International Council of Museums conference held in Melbourne in 1998. Golden Relic was actually commissioned by the Museum of Victoria (Australia) for ICOM ’98; which means Lindy was probably the first writer to earn money from the then fledgling internet. (She certainly beat Stephen King to the punch by a couple of years.) Golden Relic has now come full circle back to the internet and is now an eBook and available again as a paperback.

This book provides challenging material that requires a re‐think on the understanding of traditional Nazareth. The historical analysis has good correlation to biblical time frames." Dr. Murray Adamthwaite, Historian, Theologian, Linguist. The centre of modern Nazareth has no archaeological evidence of a city in the time of Jesus. However, verifiable remains of a large Jewish city in his time frame have been discovered in Nazareth's outer suburbs. Intriguing information supporting the traditional Catholic Church of the Annunciation. The site of the visit of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary. Documentation that refutes the claims by atheist scholars that Nazareth was an invented city and the title "Jesus of Nazareth" had no substance. A proposed plan and locality of the Nazareth synagogue where Jesus made his dramatic declaration of the Gospel of Liberty. Demonstrates that biblical geography in the Galilee is compatible with Jewish historian Josephus' site descriptions with amazing implications.
Author Information An Australian who is the Director of Key‐line Christian Research, a company involved in Bible site studies. Personally he affirms the Apostles’ Creed and the reliability of the original biblical texts. He is qualified with an Honours degree in Architecture and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning. BOUNDLESS PLAINS TO SHARE Australia’s agribusiness partnership with Asia – century 21 Australian agriculture and agribusiness sit at the beginning of a sustained boom – and a surging evolution in methods. New overseas markets are eager for our products as never before. Boundless Plains to Share is a unique contemporary compendium which addresses major issues on these two subjects, captures the key debates and provides never-before-presented views from Asian trading partners. BPTS offers a host of distinguished contributors from Australia’s greatest living historian Geoffrey Blainey, noted economist Phil Ruthven and former Victorian Premier and innovation expert John Brumby. Many specialist writers of national and international prominence also contribute from our Australian university and research sector. No other modern book has presented the broad nature of Australia’s excellence in the many knowledge areas which fall under the definition “agribusiness”: science, IT, education, finance, logistics, agriculture itself, infrastructure and irrigation. The future of precision farming is charted with explorations of new technologies including robotics, digital mapping, drones and more. And: successful small food companies, many run by young Aussie entrepreneurs are profiled .
BPTS was designed as an ideal reference for secondary schools and tertiary institutions. Deakin University, QUT, Sydney University, Wollongong University, Melbourne University and UTS all provide aspects of their research. Significantly, agribusiness represents a promising career track for students coming of age, yet it remains relatively under-appreciated. At present, in some agribusiness sectors there are as many as five positions available for every one graduate. Our source for this information also said : “ Boundless Plains ought be in every secondary school library or classroom , nothing like it has been produced on the opportunities available in this great field “ * Peter Moller – Agribusiness grad, Silicon Valley entrepreneur , now Irrigation specialist, Rubicon water , consultant, writer . Derelie Cherry began her Ph.D on the life of Alexander Macleay at the University of Sydney in 1994. Eighteen years later her book was launched with great acclaim by Lord Charles Howick at Elizabeth Bay House in Sydney in February 2012. Extensive favourable reviews, including ‘Review of the Week’ in the Sydney Morning Herald in April 2012 confirmed the importance of this first biography about Alexander Macleay in the annals of Australian history. Cherry first visited Elizabeth Bay House in the late 1980s and immediately fell in love with it. But it was not until 1994 that she decided to seriously research the history behind the man whose home it was originally - Alexander Macleay. Sydney's colonial society loved to ridicule the colourful and controversial figure of Alexander Macleay. Likewise, historians over the years have either criticised or completely ignored him. But when it came to serious matters, such as who was to be Australia's first Speaker in the Legislative Council in 1843, public opinion changed. The story of the man who introduced wisteria to Australia as well as the stunning jacaranda whose mauve flowers adorn Sydney each October, is traced from the remote north of Scotland, and to London and the Linnean Society, and through his latter years in Sydney where he took up the position of Colonial Secretary in 1826. He never returned to his homeland. Dismissed from public office by Governor Bourke in 1836 amidst bitter intrigue, his life was filled with adventure, romance (especially his children's romances), a passion for natural history and financial problems which ultimately resulted in personal calamity. Yet the Macleay Museum at the University of Sydney and Macleay Street in Kings Cross remind us of the significance of Alexander Macleay, whilst the Royal Botanic Gardens, the New South Wales State Library, the Australian Museum and the Australian Club are just a few of Australia's early institutions that benefitted from his active involvement. His magnificent house, Elizabeth Bay House, is still the finest colonial mansion in New South Wales. Alexander Macleay - from Scotland to Sydney is the first biography about this extraordinary Scottish gentleman. It will take its rightful place amongst the definitive histories of Australia's founding fathers.

Peter Underwood
Imagine being the best tennis player in the world, a hero in your own country through your exploits in the Davis Cup and the Grand Slam tournaments. You decide to turn professional, which means you are ineligible for all those events, so you find that at 23 or 24 years of age you... are to a certain extent a forgotten commodity. To most modern-day tennis fans, it is impossible to believe that until the late 1960s, professional tennis players - that is, those who played openly for money - were banned from competing in the world's major tournaments. Before this time the great contests such as the Davis Cup, Wimbledon and the national Championships were exclusive to so-called amateurs. Amateur tennis players were meant to compete only for glory. Though this division arose soon after the turn of the twentieth century, by the 1930s the 'Pro Tour' was entrenched, and endured for another forty years. In The Pros: The Forgotten Heroes of Tennis, author Peter Underwood explains why professional players were forced into what was often called a 'travelling circus', where these sporting outcasts played each other during long and rather tatty tours taking them all over the world. Focussing on the eight champions who dominated the Pro Era - beginning in 1930 with the ultimately tragic figure of Big Bill Tilden - the book follows each Pro Champion until the era's end in 1968 with Rod The Rocket Laver, great and young enough to dominate the new Open Era. Underwood's book is more than just history: his colourful depictions of ruthless battles among the pros for prize money and status of top dog, offer unique insight into the virtuoso's journey towards mastery of their craft, and the fascinating intersection between personality, background and individual style. The Pros is a significant work about a forgotten but seminal era of tennis, and the brave men who, against the odds and entrenched prejudice, fought to become supreme masters of the game. According to 'Newk' - and to John Clarke, the revered Australian wit - the result is a 'must read' for every tennis lover. Author Information Peter Underwood lives mainly in the city of his birth, Perth, Western Australia, and has spent most of his professional life as a medical doctor and academic. He has worked in primary care medicine in metropolitan and remote Australia, and worked and travelled in many overseas countries. He has also always been a writer and broadcaster. The author of numerous scientific articles, he now divides his time between medical education, growing fine wool, activism in the environmental and peace movements, writing poetry and non‐fiction, and sharing time and travel with family and grandchildren. A passionate student of tennis, he has played and studied the game since childhood. The Pros is his first general non‐fiction book. '...distant hooves beat time with the name. Nick Nick Nicholas Nick, they cantered. A melody began that danced along on the magical words...' It's 1960 in an Australian country town ‐ a time well before smartphones and social media. Fourteen‐year‐old Sandra, a shy but ambitious piano student, is on a journey of discovery. She's secretly in love with Nick Morgan, but he's already left school and hardly knows she exists. Everything changes when she finally gets to know Nick at a polocrosse carnival. Even her best friend and Sandra's beautiful piano become less important. But she is swept out of her depth by events which test the value of her friendships and challenge her in ways she could never have imagined. 'A truly absorbing tale for teenagers.' ‐ Barbara Ker Wilson AM, University of Queensland Press (Ret.) 'There are so many beautiful passages, lovingly felt moments and deft touches that will strike the reader back to the purity of their own childhood, first love and love of the land that make for inescapable reading. I can thoroughly recommend it.' ‐ Tom Thompson, ABC Radio 702

It must have been the drumming that woke him. Why did he feel so uneasy? Phil was gone. "I thought you'd never see me." Ivan took a step back, tripped, and sprawled on the ground. A girl was perched on a small platform near the top of the pole. "We have to go. Now." Ivan wants to get away from his life and the small town where he lives, and finds himself in a place where everything is disturbingly the same, and yet unnervingly different. Cassie thinks Ivan is clueless, while he thinks she's the prettiest ‐and most annoying ‐ girl he's ever met. Meanwhile the sensitive Reenie and the enigmatic Phil have other complications to untangle. Ivan, Cassie, Reenie and Phil will have to do a lot of thinking, motorbike riding and taking the unexpected in their stride, and will need to draw on courage they didn't know they had, before they can find what is lost and get to where they want to be. An adventure/fantasy story for high school aged readers to adults.

She lives in Cooma in southern NSW. Rowena has exhibited prints, drawings and paintings in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales, worked as an illustrator for the National Parks & Wildlife Service and other organizations, illustrated several privately published books, been involved in many community art projects, taken up writing fiction to go with the pictures, and in recent years has been working on several illustration projects including the Brumbies series by Paula Boer published by IFWG Publishing. In 2008 she received an Australian Society of Authors mentorship for a picture book. Her illustrated novel for young readers, Sealskin Coast, was published by IFWG Publishing in May 2014. Can a broken young girl help a guilt‐ridden grotesque stop the monsters? An Unprotected City The Grotesques have been taken down from the roof of St. Giles Old Priory School. With the Guardians statue‐ trapped, there is no one left to protect Haven from the monsters. Unexpected Heroes Despite crippling injuries from a falling grotesque statue, twelve‐year‐old Olivia Stone finds herself on the front lines in the battle between Good and Evil. Olivia needs to rescue Yip, the smallest living grotesque and the cause of her accident, discover the hidden power locked within her, and find a way to outwit the trixies. But trixies know every trick in the book, and while they may look sweet and childlike, something nasty is drawing these solitary pests together and their pranks are turning deadly. Author Information I make up stuff, I’m arty and I’m a bit of a nerd. I love telling stories. One of those stories starts with “No, when I was in the Wiggles they already had a Jeff so I had to use my middle name…” Whole bunches of kids at the school where I work believe I was once Eddie the Evil Wiggle. Writing stories down for others to read and enjoy is one of the most special thing anyone can hope to do. Drawing and painting comes a close second. I have been an artist for a long time but I have only recently started doing cover art and children’s book illustrations. You might think being an artist and illustrator is basically the same thing but it’s not. Illustrating, like writing is all about telling a story. I have been lucky enough to find a publisher who allowed me to create the illustrations and design the cover art for Paper Magic and Olivia Stone and the Trouble with Trixies. Usually the writer gets very little say in a book’s artwork. I also had the opportunity to illustrate a wonderful young child picture book, The Adventures of Teddy and Karl: Bedtime Stories. I love reading books, especially children’s books. I’m a Whovian, a Trekky, I love Star Wars and any other science fiction or fantasy stuff. I dress-up any chance I get, sometimes as a medieval soldier, Scoobie Doo or Doctor Who (the Tom Baker one, mainly because I have a large, somewhat bent Tom Bakerish nose). I tell really bad Dad jokes and I’m often an embarrassment to my children. I live in Bathurst with my Mad-Cat-Lady wife and seven and a half cats. Unfortunately I have to spend a lot of time pretending to be grown-up so I won’t get sacked from my non-writing jobs. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

I was born in Zimbabwe, raised on the pristine coastline of Western Australia and now live in Melbourne, where my voice-actor partner Paul and I enjoy making the most of the city’s cultural delights and cheeseboards. As a child, I spent idyllic family Christmases in the Irish countryside. The mountains and streams provided endless inspiration, and – being surrounded by authors, illustrators, English teachers and Scrabble enthusiasts – there was no hope for me. I was a writer. I am delighted to bring my first picture book to life, five years after my mother and I dreamed up the character of Meeka over a delicious Moroccan meal. I am ever grateful for the extraordinary talents and guidance of my illustrator Anil Tortop, which made this dream a reality. When I'm not writing stories for children, I am the editor of the City of Melbourne’s Melbourne Magazine and the creator of cabaret inspired by 1940s radio drama for Neo Radio. www.dennisjones.com.au Find us on Facebook Dennis Jones & Associates

Toni Cary has drawn since early childhood, showing considerable aptitude since the age of five. In her last year of high school, she produced a large abstract painting titled ‘Figurative Movement through Space’ for her final piece of artwork, which won her second in the state of New South Wales. This award, along with the art portfolio she presented, assisted her entrance at age 16 to the National Art School in East Sydney. Throughout her life, Toni won numerous awards for creative writing. For four years in a row, she won three firsts and a second place for contemporary poetry under the auspices of the Sydney Cultural Council. Her poems were read at the Opera House during each of those four years. She has penned three books: a non-fiction handbook for Community Nurses and Carers, a humourous murder mystery about a female middleaged serial killer that was also adapted for ABC Television as a pilot series, and a book containing thirteen short horror stories about women. After 2006 Toni revisited her mixed media painting, exhibiting in Sydney, the Southern Highlands and the NSW South Coast, and in 2013 she moved from the Southern Highlands to the Snowy Mountains of NSW in order to write and paint full-time. The magnificent surroundings of the NSW high country inspired her to illustrate with pastels, the abundant wildlife that came onto her property every day. With the arrival of grandchildren she decided to progress to writing her first children’s picture book, depicting the incredible diversity of the unique Australian wildlife mixed with the ruggedly beautiful mountainous terrain around her. Hence, the first book in a four book series, ‘Alcheringa Snow’ was born.
