Available Now Unique in Melbourne's history, Acland Street has been the home, playground and business address for millionaires and paupers, members of parliament, creators of the culture, sex workers, criminals, migrants from Europe and Asia and the most staid and most 'out there' people in the city. It was the first named street in St Kilda in 1842, and until the 1880s, Melbourne's most desired address. From the 1890s, when many of the mansions became boarding houses, and certainly after World War 1, it was a magnet for European migrants, single men and women and those from less acceptable sub‐cultures including artists, musicians, writers, the LGBTI community and anyone who was poor but wanted the joys that life near the sea could provide. It has been and remains impossible to pin down economically and socially. Acland Street has, for more than a hundred years, conjured fun, food and good times and continues to be one of our city's most loved places.
"Judith Buckrich's splendid salute in Acland Street: The Grand Lady of St Kilda is an energetic, evocative portrait sweeping from St Kilda's leisurely colonial days to its crowded, non-conforming present, Dr Buckrich captures all the complexions and contrasts, controversies and crises of this enigmatic, ebullient, sometimes gracious, sometimes sleazy bayside haunt - it seems too tame to call it a suburb. This is an important, exciting and immensely entertaining history of one of the more attractively idiosyncratic of metropolitan 'Grand Ladies'." - Brian Matthews. Author Information Judith Buckrich is best known for her histories of Melbourne people, places and institutions. She has also written a memoir, feature articles, short stories, pieces for the theatre and essays for journals. Judith has edited several anthologies of short stories and poetry, translated plays and articles from Hungarian and taught writing at various Melbourne institutions. She has curated exhibitions and worked as a picture researcher for the Encyclopedia of Melbourne. Her autobiography, The Political is Personal: A Twentieth Century Memoir, was published in 2016. In October 2016 she received the Victorian Community History Award for Small Publications for The Village of Ripponlea (Lauranton Books 2015) She is presently working on the 180 year history of Greville Street, Prahran. In 2014 she set up her own publishing house – Lauranton Books. Judith was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1950 and emigrated to Melbourne, Australia with her parents in 1958. She has returned to Budapest several times and was working for the English language Daily News during the 1989 velvet revolution. She is a past Chair of the PEN International Women Writers’ Committee and past President of the Melbourne PEN Centre. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

Spanning five years, five countries, and nine music festivals, this project turns the camera away from the bands and focuses on capturing the emotion of the crowd, that amorphous, vibrating creature with a thousand faces. Festivals include Big Day Out (Australia), Hellfest (France), Download (UK), Wacken (Germany), and Soundwave (Australia). Music and society have always been intimately related. When they both come together, it becomes a rite of passage for many people and just one day can create memories that will last long after the stages are dismantled. This book is exciting, evocative, and at times surreal. In time it will become an anthropological study on a scene, culture, and on humanity in a way. Based in Sydney Australia, Nic Bezzina is a portrait and documentary photographer with a dedication to long‐term projects. He has exhibited his work throughout Australia and London. His work is held in public and private collection.

Newtown has always been a place to shop. Since the 1870s visitors have caught thetrain, or later the omnibus or tram to shop along thehigh street of Newtown. The contempory stories and documantry photographs recorded by Nic Bezzina provide an intimate view of small business in the inner city. While individually they are charming vignettes, together the stories of Newtown Shopkeepers touch on larger historical themes of migration. Entrepreneurship, the retail economy and gentrification of the inner city. The photographs are portraits, but also studies of shop interiors. Over time these stories and photographs will become a vital addition to the historical record. Newtown Shopkeepers ia a celebration of one of Sydney's most valuable suburbs: it's a place that is bustling and always changing.

AVAILABLE NOW What would you do to have a family? At 43, time was running out for Natalie Lovett. A demanding career, combined with a series of failed relationships, and years of back pain meant her chances to have a child were rapidly diminishing. Instead of waiting for life to meet her needs, she decided to go it alone. After numerous unsuccessful IVF attempts, Natalie was given devastating news: she could not carry her own biological child. Undeterred, she discovered egg donation and, at the age of 46, she miraculously gave birth to her precious daughter, Lexie. Yet this was just the beginning of her extraordinary journey. In Lexie's Village: A New Kind of Family, Natalie shares her deeply personal mission to provide siblings for her daughter. By donating her unused embryos to other childless parents, she hoped to make their dreams come true. But by stipulating that they and their resulting children stay in touch, Natalie also created a family for her daughter and Lexie's Village was born. Some say it takes a village to raise a child. Through love, hope and determination, through joyous successes and agonising setbacks, Natalie and her close-knit community are choosing to make that village a new kind of family.
Author Information Natalie Lovett has over twenty years of experience in marketing, sales and consulting. She held executive positions at Facebook’s Australian office for over seven years before retiring from the corporate life to her home office to spend more time with her family and to follow her passion. She swiftly established Lexie’s Village Publishing, an organisation devoted to producing literature that fosters an open environment of awareness, education and acceptance of fertility issues and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Lexie's Village Publishing creates educational content on egg and sperm donation, surrogacy and embryo donation and resources for donor children, their parents and anyone interested in the spectrum of family structures. Natalie is the proud sole parent to her egg and sperm donor daughter, Lexie. They share their Sydney home with a puppy named Kizmo. AVAILABLE NOW 'Put your lipstick on, begin the day. It will start without you anyway.' 'What will I wear to your funeral?' 'And how do I look after your orchid?' Kellie wanted to ask so many questions while she still could. But how do you say goodbye forever? That one didn't bear thinking about. When her mother Pamela is diagnosed with cancer, their family plead with her to try everything that might give them all more time. She reluctantly agrees, but on one condition. Life goes on because it has to and so does the weekly family dinner with wine and loud sibling banter. With grace, guts and cups of tea the matriarch prepares herself and those she loves for the inevitable. Their conversations are honest, funny and at times confronting, where a shade of lipstick is the only bright side. This is a toast to love, friendship and the ordinary. There is no happy ending but the Curtain family discovers there can be 'good' in goodbye. And it somehow leaves them feeling just a little victorious. Now put on the kettle and open the wine. Author Information Kellie Curtain is a former Australian news reporter but an unlikely author. She has a degree in nothing and a short attention span. Throw four children into the mix and she's time poor too. What will I wear to your funeral? is the book Kellie didn't realise was inside her until she and her family relocated to the Middle East. Her mother's death a year earlier had changed everything. The crushing loneliness was no surprise but what she hadn't expected was to find immense comfort in a record of open and honest conversations she had with her mother in the days before she died. After a lifetime of love the Curtain family were given the gift of goodbye. Starting to write is one thing finishing it is another and Kellie doubted she would, telling no one until it was finished. Six years on Kellie is still in Abu Dhabi, happiness is found in family, her tribe of women in the East and West, good coffee and red wine. Recently she launched a website aimed at Congregating, Elevating and Celebrating the Sistergood because behind every woman, is another one. It's a platform for sharing the stories behind interesting women and recognising those who influenced their path.

AVAILABLE NOW If you have picked up this book, then you are curious, for this is a book like no other. It calls for radical change where such change can make you radically uncomfortable. In a world where its OK for 21 year olds to get botox breast implants, I wonder where we lost ourselves. Maybe in the search to be the fittest, the sleekest, the glossiest, the smoothest, the firmest, the plumpest, the most gelled, the most manicured, hair straightened, accepted and cosmically cool, we simply lost the plot. So, we require a Revolution. Where we tip it all upside down, look at it from an entirely different perspective, take a deep breath and simply ask....'who are we REALLY and why, oh why are we here?
Author Information Dee Light grew up in Melbourne in a middle‐class way. A good girl from a nice family, she promptly swam the other way at the age of twenty five and has robustly followed hew own inner compass for nearly four decades. She didn't ask to write this book, it arrived and has occupied her psyche ever since. Her favourite saying '"When in deep water become a diver" means she delves, bringing up the crud we all want to hide. About how we feel about our bodies, our small lives, our relationships, our wobbly thighs and our big, private dreams. 'In these pages lies the story of a brave young Australian fighter pilot who, on August 19, 1944, launched from the British aircraft carrier His Majesty's Ship (HMS) Searcher to do his duty. He epitomised a generation who knew what freedom was, and were willing to give their all to keep it... An extraordinary journey indeed indeed' ‐ Commodore Chris J Smallhorn, Commander Fleet Air Arm This is the story of Fred Sherborne, a young Australian fighter pilot in World War II, shot down in August 1944, between Châteaurenard and Avignon, in the South of France. It is a story about the pursuit of his identity by French locals who wished to uncover the story of this man, and others, who fought for them, in the skies above their land. It is a heady mixture of memories, tales passed down, and bonds formed between an unidentified Allied fighter pilot who, confusingly, wore a Canadian pilot's jump suit and bore a French‐sounding name, but didn't speak French, and the French civilians who would risk their lives to save him. As luck would have it, those who found him in this Vichy region rife with German collaborators were farmers who were sympathetic to la Resistance. One particular man, Marcel Bellin, outside the town of Châteaurenard, secreted him away, outside the last grasps of German occupation. This is the story of how, nearly sixty years later, the truth of this rescue ‐ following devastating misinformation that Sherborne took to his grave, filling him with misplaced guilt ‐ finally came to light.
Author Information Guy Sherborne was a theatre arts academic at the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales and Head of Drama at Queenwood Girls School. He has directed theatre in Australia and overseas.

Ultimate Price details incidents in which Police officers have lost their lives on duty in Australia. From the first recorded death of Police officer, Constable Joseph LUKER who was murdered in Sydney in 1903, cut down by a criminal wielding a cutlass, the book follows the growing State and Federal Police Forces and the events where the officers have been killed in the execution of their duty. The author recreates the feeling of the incident by putting the reader there, at the location. Be it the sticky heat of the tropical north, the dry winds of Central West NSW or the bone aching cold of Tasmania, the author paints a picture so the reader can see and almost feel what is happening. The incidents vary from stabbings, shootings, vehicle accidents, drownings, suicides along with many more violent, terrifying and in some cases mysterious deaths. The public are grateful for the work their Police do, but how many of them are aware of the terrible dangers those officers face every time they put on the uniform and head out to work. Ultimate Price shows the reader the realities faced by their Police every day.
Author Information Brett Wright was a serving Police officer with the NSW Police Force for fifteen years. He spent the majority of his time in the Police as a front line officer where he saw and dealt with the worst humanity has to offer. Brett was involved in many well know investigations and a number of critical incidents. During his career Brett was awarded the Commissioners Commendation for Courage and the Jim Affleck award for bravery. Brett left the Police in October 2016 and began writing from the day he left. Brett enjoys travel and cross country endurance running.

Colours of yesterday is specially designed for older people but suitable for all. A new adult colouring book specifically designed for older people will support them to join millions worldwide who have discovered the joy and wellbeing that comes from colouring and mindfulness books. Colours of yesterday: A creative colouring book for older people features drawings that are more accessible for older hands and eyes, with themes lovingly depicting the way things were. Inspiring young Australian artist, Annette Innis, has used her skills as a portrait artist and experience teaching participatory art classes for older people (Arts on Prescription) to create Colours of yesterday. "Colours of yesterday is strongly influenced by my lifelong love of hearing stories set in the 'good old days'," Annette said. "Art can be relaxing, challenging and fulfilling, and when mixed with personal sharing and a healthy sprinkle of nostalgia, the results are absolute magic!" Alongside Annette's 30 original drawings are real-life stories, which further bring to life the warm familiarity of the past while opening a door of connection and learning for younger family and friends. Drawing on expertise from the Centre of Positive Ageing in western Sydney and experience from the ground-breaking Arts on Prescription program, Colours of yesterday is an important new resource and possibly an Australian-first. Professor Chris Poulos, Director of the Centre for Positive Ageing, said, "There's growing evidence that shows how involvement in the creative arts can lead to an improved sense of wellbeing in those who participate. "Through Arts on Prescription we've seen how talented our participants are and witnessed firsthand some of the benefits they have gained by being creative. We hope to extend this experience through Colours of yesterday."
Author Information Annette Innis is a Sydney‐based artist who specialises in portrait painting, becoming a semifinalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2015. She has been involved as an artist and project officer on HammondCare’s Arts on Prescription Program since 2015 and has run creative ageing programs in Hammondville, Wahroonga and The Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre, as well as teaching community life drawing classes. Annette is passionate about the role of the participatory arts on health and wellbeing. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

In the past 30 years, new cancer diagnoses almost tripled, hospital admissions for life‐threatening allergic reactions have increased fourfold, breast cancer has doubled, male sperm count has halved, the age of puberty is declining, and learning and behavioural disorders in children have skyrocketed. Could these conditions be linked to our homes? YES! Nicole is a passionate woman on a crucial mission to enlighten a sleeping population to the devastating consequences of our modern life. This is mandatory reading for my patients. ‐ Dr Penny Caldicott (Medical practitioner, President of Australasian Integrative Medicine Association). Based on years of diligent research, this book explains how our homes influence our health and provides simple practical advice on how to create a healthy home. ‐ Professor Marc Cohen (School of Health and Biomedical Sciences, RMIT University). A must read, not only for doctors in the field of environmental medicine, but for every health professional. ‐ Dr Janet Kim. (Integrative medical practitioner)

Nicole is an accomplished naturopath and acupuncturist, has trained over 2,000 naturopaths at various tertiary institutions, the bestselling author of Healthy Home Healthy Family, has published in peer-reviewed journals, past columnist for Body+Soul newspaper (6 million + readers), has appeared on every major television network and is regularly consulted by the media to discuss electromagnetic fields, mould and chemicals. 'I now know the meaning of 'Respite Room' on the notice on the door of the room I occupy. Clearly the occupier is the one from whom someone is getting respite.' Diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, Roy Harden Jones used his intellect, his analytical strengths and his sense of humour to chronicle the ups and downs of living with dementia. Roy's skill as a writer allows readers to see the world through his eyes, and in this way he is able to advocate for others without communication skills. He was supported every step of the way by his wife and carer Clodagh, who has added her own insights. If you have a friend or family member taking the same journey, this book will open a window into their world. You may shed a tear with Roy and Clodagh ‐ but you will laugh with them as well.

Sadly, people living in abusive situations face a shocking reality of life. And these people are people just like you and me. This is Deborah Thomson's story. How she came to be in an abusive situation and how she regained her strength and self‐confidence to leave the abusive situation. Abuse may be threefold. Firstly, there is the direct abuse by the perpetrator. Secondly, on another level, the suffering can be intensified when there is no remorse by the abuser. Thirdly, an often ignored area, is the judgment of others. When friends, family or the general public find out about the abuse and judge the sufferer for either staying with the abuser or leaving. Thomson explains how someone can find themself in an abusive situation and then how, with compassion and support from others, they can regain their dignity and life. This is compelling reading for everyone to understand how vulnerable we all are and the signs to watch for.
Author Information Deborah Thomson’s childhood was an adventure. She was a traveller, accompanying her mother across Australia and the world, until she entered a relationship with someone whose abuse irrevocably changed the person that she was. Having escaped domestic violence and, inspired by her partner she has written this book to help others recognise abuse in the home and to increase their motivation to leave earlier.

Why Did I Write This Book - For Greater Success explains how we can live an amazing life. It breaks down the distinction between "professional" and "personal" life and highlights the way in which situations we experience in our work, in our social environment, in our family and in friendly relations. To accomplish this, the writer John Karagounis developed the Eight Cycles of Success, building on his private banking experience, as a manager of large portfolios, as a consultant to senior executives of large businesses and as a son, brother, spouse and father. Studying various situations and personal experiences, John Karagounis demonstrates the importance of real success and the ways we can achieve it. "An easy-to-read book but demanding lessons that are difficult to achieve. Part-time CV, self-help manual and experience notebook. An authentic and practical work. John Karagounis is considered a respected and lovable member of the Australian business community. It's authentic! Read this book carefully, put yourself in the tribulations it proposes and have a lot to gain. - Elizabeth Johnstone, President and Business Director The book is an extraordinary reading for anyone who wants to improve their lives. The principles that emerge in this book have endured the test of time. Life often manages to derail us, and this book is a reminder of what is important and what principles we must follow if we want to have a fantastic and full of life. This book has given me a lot and I'm sure that you too will find a lot. Enjoy! - John Moller, Non-Executive Director, GPC Asia Pacific

Most information workers are expelling incredible amounts of energy to deliver their day-to-day work. Staff are working furiously sharing information over email, Excel and a share drive that are very old technologies. Technology is developing faster and faster; in people's personal lives they are getting more done, more effortlessly, from any device, anywhere they like. And yet at work, it's like going back in time, back to a world where it's really hard to achieve anything. Many people think that this is just the way it is - they are used to working in this cumbersome, ploddy, inefficient way. But for others, especially younger generations, they will not accept this. Having worked for over 22 years in technology in companies like Apple, Optus and Commonwealth Bank across Ireland, Sydney and New York, and launching successful Microsoft technology consultancy WebVine in 2010, Marcus Dervin understands how to bridge the gap between where companies are and where they could be. So how can companies make the enormous leap from where they are now, to become efficient, collaborative workplaces? Where do you even begin? It can be quite overwhelming. Who should drive it, how to measure it, what is the ROI, where to focus, and much more. Often companies: - Rely on internal IT to lead the way - Have IT departments that are overworked, under-resourced, and don't have the experience - Roll out products to the business that are underutilised - Try to lock down the technology and devices people use but fail - Don't understand what collaboration really means. When companies do try to introduce digital transformation technologies they often: - Assume that rolling it out is all they need to do - Don't focus on business benefits - Don't have executive buy-in - Don't understand what people really need. In this book are the 9 Pillars of a Digital Workplace, and the 6 I's of Digital Transformation. These principles and methodologies are based on common sense, but it's amazing how few companies employ them. This book shows you how to digitally transform your organisation to deliver greater business outcomes. Marcus has led WebVine to deliver numerous successful initiatives for companies like Commonwealth Bank, LJ Hooker, Santos and Macquarie Bank. Through this framework your organisation can flourish into a collaborative workplace that is productive and gives more meaning to staff. If your company feels it has greater capability, and doesn't know how to achieve it with the help of technology, then read this book today. Author Information Marcus Dervin is the owner of successful boutique Microsoft technology consultancy WebVine, founded in 2010. Marcus has over 22 years experience since starting his career at Apple in 1995. Marcus is a conference speaker, has published articles for CMS Wire, Sydney Morning Herald, IDM Magazine, and communicates in a non‐techy way. He infuses his presentations with humour, and has a global appreciation of life having lived in Ireland, Italy, New York and Sydney. His outlook is refreshing for the technology industry, with plain speaking replacing geek talk and the focus is on solutions to business problems.

'The Sweet Hills of Florence is a gloriously sweeping novel that spans time and distance between Italy and Australia, between Mussolini's Italy and that of Berlusconi, between past and present. It is a rich tapestry woven with skilful insight, of the culture and the times. In digging beneath the patina of memory in a search for meaning, it opens doors to the past and raises questions. Are some doors better left locked? Some ghosts better left alone?' ‐Sandy McCutcheon, Black Widow
Author Information Jan Wallace Dickinson has lived and worked between Italy and Australia for more than twenty five years. She has a wide range of commercial and academic experience at all levels, in both countries. Her particular interest is Italian literature and history and she has worked as an editor, translator and bookseller.

Primer Fiction
Weaving Greek mythology, religion and the study of grammar, Stamatia X is the story of a Greek‐Australian girl whose parents make the monumental decision to re‐migrate "like birds flying backwards" to Greece. The year is 1973 and a military junta is in power. This modern Greek tragedy subverts notions of family, culture and gender. A yiayia in a swimsuit, a blasphemous Greek Orthodox priest, a corrupt regime. An explosive epic.

French by birth, British by education, Australian by choice, Babette Hayes was uniquely placed to bring that fusion of French tradition and informal style that characterises her cuisine and interior design. In Food for Friends she traces her journey from the war‐torn Middle East, to the strangeness of life in an English boarding school, to glittering mornings on Sydney's Mosman Bay. These recipes and the stories that accompany them, recall dear friends and family members who have inspired Babette's approach to the joy of living and sharing food. With the inclusion of family photographs, Food for Friends offers the insights and experiences of one who has sought to make an embracing experience of cooking and being together as... 'an ordinary part of everyday life.' Plenitude: fullness or adequacy in quantity, measure, or degree; abundance. It's the word I think of first when I recall those magnificent Sunday lunches at Babette Hayes' beautiful house in Hunter's Hill. Of course there was an abundance of wonderful food, but an equal abundance of generosity, goodwill, laughter, great company. There were splendid dinners too, candlelit affairs that extended past midnight, their begetter a consummate hostess dedicated to providing her guests with persistent and ineradicable memories. ‐ Leo Schofield
I remember my first visit to your home and sitting on the verandah eating one of your lunches. It is unforgettable. You changed our way of looking at food and entertaining Babette. - Margaret Fulton

Available Now When I read Rose Hunter's poetry I am immersed in the flow of her music, as if the conscious world is an intensely coloured envelope of experience: wonder mixed with something dark and unpredictable. Anyone who can say 'a cantaloupe is the fruit equivalent of a lobster' has my full attention. ‐ Angela Gardner Rose Hunter's poems decentre the speaking subject, shifting position from the absurd to the oneiric, from the colourful streets of Mexico to Brisbane. Part‐diary, part‐confession, glass is a delicate and resilient collection, a hybrid language answering poetry's questions of memory and desire. ‐ Michelle Cahill
Author Information Rose Hunter is the author of three poetry books and a chapbook in the United States. Available Now In the early sixties bored bank clerk Paul Johnson joins the elite Corps of Royal Marines where he and Jack Mason, once a professional wrestler, become friends. They and other recruits form H Squad, a unit impressed by and proud of their drill instructor, Sergeant Francis Boswell. The self-proclaimed 'finest Sergeant this man's outfit has ever produced' gives his squad the collective name of 'Boswell's Fairies', which, he commands, they must declare to the world. Nobody foresees the consequences. Boswell's Fairies is the story of a ten-month period of basic training. It isn't exactly the story of Paul's romance with a girl named Mary, or Paul's shattered illusions about Boswell, any more than it is about his efforts to impress his father. The book is about Paul's largely successful effort to experience two things concurrently; freedom (from banking, his class and his family) and the lack of it (the discipline is much stricter than that he previously encountered). He has devotion to a strong mentor while later having to admit his hero is not wholly admirable; he has plenty of female company while living in an all-male environment, and finds considerable fun and entertainment while facing physical hardship and learning a very serious business Author Information Peter Lingard, born a Brit, sold ice cream on railway stations, worked as a bank clerk, delivered milk, laboured in a large dairy, and served in the Royal Marines. He has also been a barman, an accountant and a farm worker. He lived in the US for a while and owned a freight forwarding business in New York. He went to Australia because the sun often shines there and Australians are a positive bunch who speak English. Peter (plingaus@bigpond.com) is an occasional member of the Caulfield Writers Group and regular member of the Phoenix House Writers. He has 60+ short stories and poems published, as well as having a similar number aired on the radio. Professional actors have performed his poetry and he has gusted on several literary chat shows to discuss his work.

Available Now It is a world where magic once ruled. Where mystical beasts and power‐hungry magic wielders fought for control. The balance ever shifting between order and anarchy. It is our world and the struggle is all but forgotten. Old legends whisper of the battles once fought, folklore gives hints of the dangers that still exist, but it all happened such a very long time ago. And you cannot believe every old fairy tale you read, can you? Michael has been dealing with a lot lately. A creepy family moving in next door. A relaxing family holiday where a strange discovery leaves him anxious and unnerved. And now he's having recurrent nightmares. Nightmares shared by his sister Dana. With an ancient evil starting to unlock its powers, Michael must accept his family's legacy and come to terms with their emerging abilities before their quiet Melbournian street is turned into a warzone.
Author Information Petra has lived in a world where plans mean little and dreams are the only constant. Diagnosed with ear disease at the age of eight she turned to books as a way to escape the constant medical procedures that would be a part of her life for the next two decades. She always had an open view of the world around her, having grown up on stories of her gypsy ancestors but a near death experience during surgery confirmed what she had long known, the world has many layers and the people that reside within it have even more. Petra runs her own Finance IT Consulting business by day and writes about her strange ‘what if’ view of the world in any spare moment that she has. She is married with two children and the characters in her books have a tiny bit more than a passing resemblance to her family. All of their strengths are their own and all of their weaknesses are pure fiction. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

'If God is too indifferent, or too non‐existent to take care of His creation, then clearly it's up to Me.' Morgen Tanjenz is a lawyer with an overactive sense of justice. His mission in life is to reward the virtuous, punish the ignorant and avenge those who won't avenge themselves. His favourite pastime is 'life sculpture' ‐ anonymously intervening in the lives of strangers to change their destiny in ways he thinks they deserve. But Morgen isn't the only one changing lives in the city. A serial killer is on the prowl and taunting the police in letters to the local rag. But, as the body count rises, Detective Sergeant Blacksnake Fowler can hardly focus on the job with so many distractions: his boss hates him, his deputy is trying to undermine him and the woman he loves is having an affair. In the cicada‐throbbing heat of a Sydney summer, the threads of a strange story become entangled in a wild conclusion no one will see coming. 'a ripsnorter of a ride through the dark heart of the burbs... may just be Australia's answer to American Psycho.' Kirsten Krauth, just_a_girl 'Sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing, and always compelling... with a super‐original premise and a one‐of‐a‐kind

The Dangerous Truth! Growing up in darkest Scotland as the son of the local poacher and then rampaging across Europe with a pack of Rangers hooligans is not the best preparation for high office in Australia. Father at 18, professional footballer at 20, Lawrie McKinna was living the dream until he uprooted for Australia at 25 to play in the NSL. Then he became a successful coach (NSL, A‐League and China) and ultimately was elected to political office as an independent after being courted by both mainstream parties due to his massive popularity. These pages chronicle his journey, telling his dangerous truth with fearless candour, infectious enthusiasm and a wicked sense of humour. "Very readable, but not for the PC at heart. " Andy Harper "I read it in five hours flat and could not put it down. " Roy Hay "Compelling and mesmerising. " Con Stamocostas "An amazing journey. " Ashley Morrison

Available Now A Fascinating New Mystery Adventure. "It is an extraordinary transmutation from fantasy to fact, when our creative imagination begins to soar into realms well beyond known logic and far beyond reasoning. Broader, deeper, wider than the finite mind can ever go: biological science is only operating in a narrow sphere of the 'known' thus its provable truths are not validated in the unknown. In an endless unknowable universe, can we, with our finite minds tied to one reality; really say what does not exist?" ‐Professor Trustworth "In these stimulating, mesmerising and epic adventures, the reader will become lost in these spell binding pages." ‐Pete Burdon, Founder and Head Trainer of Media Training NZ "A richly textured book in its descriptions. Beautifully written." ‐ Kawena Gordon, Author, Inspirational Speaker and Personal Mentor Author Information Maureen is an accomplished author, inspired poet, imaginative book illustrator and an award-winning artist. Drawn to a creative life at an early age, Maureen has been enjoying and producing art in many forms throughout her life. In her youth, a job at a photography studio and training in photo colouring at RMIT University gave her a strong foundation as a photographer and artist. She used her skills and experience to work for herself as a family and children’s photographer taking, developing and finishing her own photographs. Maureen has accepted private commissions. She loves experimenting with new ideas, enjoys painting urban and rural landscapes, animals, flowers and large abstracts in a wide range of media. These include oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, charcoal, pen and pencil. As an adult, Maureen decided to go back to school. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History and obtained four High Distinctions in painting and printmaking at RMIT University. Over the years Maureen has displayed her Fine Art in one-person shows and in large exhibitions. She has received awards and recognitions for her artwork, including a prestigious opportunity when her work was chosen to be part of the National Australian Tour with the Australian Blake Prize 1989. Always seeking to expand her artistic talent, she designed the cover and illustrated a humorous book for another author. This departure from her fine art also helped her to develop the skills she needed to illustrate her own books and discover new ways to produce the art she envisions. Set amidst South Australia's beautiful but isolated mid‐north, The Railway Dog tells the true story of Bob, a scruffy brown stray, bought on impulse by a local railway man as a gift for his wife ‐ and setting in motion the beginnings of a legend... Recognised near and far for his cheery bark, waving tail, and devotion to train travel ‐ Bob quickly became a beloved member of the tight knit railway community. Charming, humorous, and at times intensely moving, the adventures of Bob the Railway Dog, entwined with the lives of the fascinating people he meets on his journeys ‐ make for an inspiring and touching Australian story.
Author Information Olwyn Parker holds a deep and lifelong affection for the South Australian mid‐north, and particularly the town of Peterborough – as her grandparents ran the Peterborough Hotel during the 1960s, and many happy childhood memories of a thriving railway town still remain. The discovery of a portrait of the enigmatic ‘Bob the Railway Dog’ was the inspiration for this book, and the author hopes it is a fitting tribute to a wonderful Australian character and the community he loved.

Available Now Discover Practical Steps to Freedom That Work for You When You're Shy International Author, Business Owner and Coach David Solomon shares what it's like to be a shy entrepreneur and still be highly successful. David's amazing Breakthrough Systems enable shy people to not just survive, but thrive in today's world. David's tips and strategies will help you to gain the friends you want while creating the success you desire. Author Information By all accounts David grew up with a shy personality. Shyness ran in his family. His mother was so shy that they rarely had visitors. Smart, but fearful of approaching new people, David had very few friends while in school. And, he was often teased. Fortunately, David didn’t let his shyness hold him back. Shortly after graduating from high school in 1999, David started his own computer consulting, website design, and app-development company. He still operates that company today. Determined to overcome his shyness and become a success, David has spent more than $150,000 on personal development seminars and adult education courses. He also got involved with several network marketing companies through which he learned the art of leadership. One of his favourite ventures is real estate investing. He has renovated four properties and made $100,000 selling his first property. Additionally, David bought property for others and experienced a positive cash flow each time. Unfortunately, the real estate business hasn’t always been good for David. He once lost more than $100,000 on a piece of property. With that experience behind him, he helps others avoid the mistakes he made. David’s other ventures include developing a modular building system, developing a scalable storage solution, and helping others create a growing residual income that is equivalent to a wage. In his spare time, David enjoys playing snooker and volleyball. He also enjoys cycling, hang gliding, and powered hang gliding. He has travelled and worked throughout Mexico, The United States, Canada, Thailand, Borneo, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

When Georges closed its doors on 5 October 1995, it had been trading for 115 years. Yet this famous department store, situated in the 'Paris End' of Collins Street, still lingers in the minds of many today. Remembering Georges documents the memories of staff and clients before this living connection fades. The unique 'voice' of each interviewee shines through, because the memories are in their own words. This richly illustrated book displays some of the fabulous images associated with Georges, reflecting the style and elegance of the store itself. Georges devotees, as well as those interested in fashion, design, and Melbourne's retail and social history, will revel in the stories held within. 'I, like many other people, remember Georges very fondly. I wanted to document the memories of staff and clients, and display some of the fabulous images associated with the store, before this living connection is lost. Alan Black, for example, is 94 years old, and has some wonderful stories about the store during his long time spent there as Buyer for Georg Jensen, Stuart Devlin, Waterford and Marghab linen. Nancy Balding worked at Georges between 1948 and 1989, and served in the famous Front Showroom, which carried the most fabulous of fashion and clientele. Michael Shmith, son of the photographer Athol and model 'Bambi' Shmith, talks of his devotion to the store almost being ruined by the sight of a price-tag on a handkerchief displayed in the windows. The 'voice' of each interviewee comes through, because the memories are in their own words.' Annette Cooper
Author Information Annette Cooper has had a lifelong interest in Melbourne’s social and architectural history, especially the landscape of the city. She was a devoted client of Georges, enjoying its elegant and refined atmosphere. In Remembering Georges, she brings together these two interests, and hopes that the book will serve as a tribute to one of Melbourne’s most‐ loved stores.

Following the bestselling Dandenong Ranges, Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Laneways of Melbourne, this new sumptuous large format, hard cover 300 plus page coffee table book with over 1500 stunning photos is the latest in our Portraits of Victoria series. Melbourne is known for its picturesque parks and gardens and is regarded as Australia's garden city. Victoria is known as the Garden State, and it was in Melbourne's beginnings that Governor Charles La Trobe set aside parklands for people to enjoy the beauty of outdoor gardens. Land was reserved for the Fitzroy Gardens in 1848. Captain Cook's Cottage and over 1,000 trees including an avenue of 250 Dutch and English Elms are located here. The historic Carlton Gardens with the Royal Exhibition Buildings are included in the World Heritage list and annually host the immensely popular Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Kings Domain, established in 1854 encompasses La Trobe's Cottage, the Shrine of Remembrance, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and has many trees planted by early directors of the Botanic Gardens, Baron Ferdinand von Mueller and William Guilfoyle. The Queen Victoria Gardens include a floral clock displaying over 7,000 flowers and the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, established in 1846 are regarded as one of the finest botanic, landscaped gardens in the world. Popular pastimes involved strolls through luxurious gardens, socialising at picnics and attending concerts in the parks.

Companion planting works - but only when you know why. This book is the result of 40 years of studying gardens, orchards and the bush; of Jackie French experimenting and testing what lore works and what doesn't. The result is a plan for gardens - * that are unconventional and wild, untidy even, but always beautiful * without a need for pesticides and herbicides * where plants are companions for each other and for the other species of the earth
Use this book, and you will love chickens too: love to keep them, scratching about in your own backyard; love to eat them, prepared from one of Jackie's many mouth-watering chicken-and-egg recipes. This completely revised edition's sections on poultry keeping and management have been greatly expanded, and are now illustrated with almost 100 full-colour photographs. It is bigger, better and always in demand.
Jackie French is well-known for her many gardening and children's books, TV appearances on Burke's Backyard, her radio segments, and columns including those in The Australian Women's Weekly and Earth Garden. Her books include the multi-award winning Hitler's Daughter and Diary of a Wombat as well as books like Backyard Self-sufficiency, Natural Control of Garden Pests, Soil Food, The Wilderness Garden, and Jackie French's Chook Book. * Completely revised and updated * More than double the extent of the 1st edition

Nowadays, in conventional gardening and farming, weed 'control' means herbicides: chemicals have replaced good management for fertility and for pest, disease and weed control. We hate weeds. 'Weed' is the ultimate insult. But weeds can also be seen as soil repairers, an essential part of any farm or garden management. In this completely revised edition, Jackie French shows that weeds can be controlled using your own home-grown, natural herbicides in addition to mulching, solarisation or applications of urine, steam or boiling water - and a multitude of others cheap, environmentally safe and gentle techniques.

"It is called the Elemental Control. And it is failing. The elements are mere ghosts of their full forces. And, as it fails Delphi, I start to die. I need you to save me, the future of your home, and a very powerful boy." Earth, fire, water, wind. Four elements that make up everything Delphi knows to be normal. All her life, she has been a servant to a mysterious man named The Master ‐ until The Master comes to her island home and asks her to undertake a dangerous task in the far‐off, elemental lands. Delphi is alone in places with strange secrets and rules, with the fate of her world on her shoulders, and although she makes many friends she also attracts more dangerous attention... Leo has never known home ‐ and he isn't exactly a normal boy. When he is kidnapped by a nameless man who tries to force Leo to reveal his powers, he finds he has nobody he can turn to ‐ except a girl in his dreams called Delphi... Can Delphi find the Elemental Stones to bring the Control back into balance? Will she get to Leo's prison in time? And, when faced with the ultimate challenge, can Delphi find the inner strength to save everything she loves? A story about courage, friendship and finding where you belong.
Author Information Esme Carpenter started writing at the age of twelve and since then has never looked back. Despite completing a fivebook series by fifteen, she couldn’t stop, resulting in a backlog of fantasy and science-fiction novels decaying on her hard drive, awaiting liberation (and possibly a good edit). An avid reader all her life, Esme always enjoyed stories. Her love of both writing and reading led her to the University of East Anglia to study English Literature and Creative Writing; she graduated summer 2011. Esme enjoys, amongst other things, comic books, video games and music, the latter of which gives her the best inspiration and is often used to drive her stories. She has written a graphic novel and is currently dabbling in adult fiction. Against the Elements is her debut novel, written when she was fifteen and edited at the tender age of twenty-one. Esme lives in Hull, England, with a ridiculous amount of nerdy memorabilia. She is currently teaching English. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

Wallace Emmet Keyes has so many problems he doesn't know which way to turn. Everyone at the new school makes fun of him. His cousin can't stand him. For the last month he's lived with Aunty Jay, Raa and Raiona in a tiny flat in the city instead of at home with his parents. But these are distractions from the big problem: both his mother and father have run away from home. Becoming tough might fix some of that ‐ but it's not until Wallace meets the mysterious Zillah that things change. Why does she know all about him? Why has he never met her before? Why does she want him to live up to all his names, and strangest of all, why does Zillah trick Wallace into falling into the harbour near her odd house? Zillah introduces Wallace to an unknown side of his family and to a fabulous, hidden ability that matches all his dreams. Soon Wallace and his newly found cousin Eartha embark on a desperate adventure to find his parents ‐ and answer Wallace's questions. Author Information After spending more time on the title pages of her projects than in doing the actual work at school, Rowena went on to study art at the Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education/City Art Institute/UNSW, receiving a B.A. in Visual Arts. She lives in Cooma in southern NSW. Rowena has exhibited prints, drawings and paintings in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales, worked as an illustrator for the National Parks & Wildlife Service and other organizations, illustrated several privately published books, been involved in many community art projects, taken up writing fiction to go with the pictures, and in recent years has been working on several illustration projects including the Brumbies series by Paula Boer published by IFWG Publishing. In 2008 she received an Australian Society of Authors mentorship for a picture book. Her illustrated novel for young readers, Sealskin Coast, was published by IFWG Publishing in May 2014. Rowena’s artwork and writing contain a mixture of reality and imagination. It is possible that something fantastical may appear just around the next corner…

Finalist for the Sir Julius Vogel Awards 2016. A boy. A weird tattoo. A silver necklace showing four elements: 'Earth. Air. Fire. Water.' When Brave woke up that first, life‐changing day, he had no idea that pretty soon he'd be controlling the weather, talking to royalty and journeying to another world. Let alone riding a camel. Life in the mysterious world of Arvalonia, where magic springs from the nature around you, couldn't be more different to his ordinary existence back home. Especially when he meets True...bossy, rich, driven teenager True who's out to make his life a misery. Brave and True venture deep into enemy territory; facing a month without a bath, nipping stinkbuggies, evil ruler Mallevia's ruthless green guards and eventually a battle with the vile queen herself. Discover a place where the nature of power is within the power of nature. Escape the ordinary. Author Information Jan Goldie is a keen traveller. She loves to take journeys. While many of her travels have been in the real world, others have stayed between the pages of a book. Jan lives in Tauranga with two children, a small dog and two budgies. When she’s not building alternate worlds, she’s a freelance writer creating content for websites, print media, social media or copywriting and editing. She has a degree in English literature and a Graduate Diploma in Journalism. Interests include travel, yoga, drawing and reading copious amounts of YA books. Jan’s first book for YA readers Brave’s Journey won a shortlisting for New Zealand’s Tom Fitzgibbon Award 2014, prior to being picked up by IFWG Publishing Australia. Several of her short stories have been accepted into anthologies, with the science fiction story Love Hurts (featured in the Shadows Award winning Baby Teeth: bite-sized tales of terror) shortlisted for New Zealand’s Sir Julius Vogel awards. Jan also has the novella A Mer-tale published in Conclave, a collection of science fiction and fantasy for teens.

Author Information C.R. Cummings started penning her first stories in high school and finished her first novel soon after. She never published it, just had it waiting until the time was right. Her oldest sister's battle with ALS and her request that she would like to see her book published prompted Cummings to get to work. Quest of the Evensongs was published in 2011 as an eBook and her sister was the first to receive a copy. Since that time she has published numerous other works and currently is revising each for paperback. Her love of fantasy, the forest and 60's music led her to write The Ivy Chronicles. Raised in Ojai, California, Cummings comes from a family of very talented artists: Her mother, Anita Wann, Anita Wann Watercolors, medium is Watercolors and her brother, Guy Wann, Guy Wann - Artist, still lives and paints his unique creations in Ojai. Now a self-proclaimed Oregonian, she spends her free time reading, walking in the woods and hiding from the mountain of clothes that needs folding

Author Information The best writers are part-librarian and part-swashbuckler. At least that seems to be the career path followed by Ian C. Douglas. After a nerdy childhood spent in the company of Tolkien, Lovecraft, and a certain Time Lord, Ian ran away to see the world. This quest got him in countless scrapes, before finding himself teaching English in East Asia. After ten years of hard grammar, he returned to his native England, and graduated with an MA Distinction in Creative Writing. Since then he has written everything from online computer games to apps for children. Several of his stories have won prizes and he was a finalist in the Independent on Sunday’s writing competition. Ian is a children’s history author and visits schools with bloodcurdling tales of the past. His writing has appeared at the V&A’s Toy Museum. Ian lives near Sherwood Forest with his wife and children. When he’s not daydreaming about Martian landscapes, he teaches creative writing and writes theatre reviews. Interests include origami, astronomy and wearing silly hats. Science Fiction has always been Ian’s first love. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

On Mars, your best friend sometimes turns out to be your worst enemy. Zeke Hailey is struggling with life at the Chasm, the 23rd century school for psychics. His extrasensory skills have dried up and there's a prehistoric robot out to kill him. At least he has a new mate, in the shape of late comer Fitch Crawley. Only there's more to Fitch than Zeke realises. The boy has a genius for hypnosis, making fools of the teachers. Fitch has an invisible pet too, a creature armed with deadly venom. Zeke and Fitch team up with an old foe, setting off on a Martian road trip. But this search for answers will bring them face to face with monsters and, most dangerous of all, a demon from beyond time. Zeke will have to do more than survive his mind‐bending friend and the ancient killer robot. As the universe starts to collapse, Zeke must choose between saving his friends or the human race. For nobody but Zeke can stop the apocalypse of Gravity's Eye. Author Information The best writers are part-librarian and part-swashbuckler. Lulu is born no ordinary child. She makes soufflés before she can talk and naturally leavened sourdoughs before she can walk. But despite her skills in the kitchen, Lulu finds that the ‘perfect’ dish continues to elude her. So she packs her bags and travels the world, cooking at Le Cordon Bleu and winning Junior Masterchef. But despite roaming, experiencing and cooking across the globe, Lulu cannot find what is missing. Perhaps she will never create the perfect dish. Lulu Le Baby Chef is a heart-warming tale that engages the current zeitgeist for all things culinary. It is a picture book that will appeal to a broad audience, bridging the readership gap between “There is a hippopotamus on my roof eating cake” and “Go the f%^k to sleep”. While entertaining to read with gentle humour where Lulu’s every cooking activity is thwarted by her search for a certain ‘umami’, it features satisfyingly simple rhyming text and an overarching message about the importance of love and family in making children feel happy, safe, and secure while encouraging them to chase what they love and dream.
Author Information Katrina Meynink is a freelance food writer and recipe developer who lives and breathes all things food. She is particularly fond of butter, Persian fairy floss and bacon. But her biggest love is cooking and sharing food with her family and friends. Professionally, Katrina eats (a lot). And then writes about it for national and international press, drawing on her extensive tertiary and culinary training. She has two published cookbooks (Murdoch Books) under her apron, with a third due for release in 2018. Lulu Le Baby Chef is her first children’s book. Motivated by the mutual love of food she shares with her daughters, Katrina wove her experience as a food writer, food lover and mum into this engaging and heart warming tale.

Tissywoo is a little girl who is about to start school for the first time. She is excited but also anxious. Her anxiety turns into a little worry monster. As Tissywoo keeps worrying, more monsters begin to appear. They grow so big they threaten to overwhelm her! Scared and frightened Tissywoo remembers something her mother told her to do when the worry monsters come along. Tissywoo uses breathing techniques to calm herself; using slow deep breaths in and out. The more she controls her breathing the better she feels, and the worry monsters grow smaller and disappear.
