Words From The Wise What do I do when I am working? Over the last 11 weeks I have travelled to all states of Australia plus the ACT, driven from the Gold Coast to Noosa and back to Brisbane, renewed friendships in Launceston, hit Skippy at 100 kph between Nowra and Bungendore, faint at the sight of seeing $3000 leap off my Amex for the excess: drive to Margaret river then back to Perth today. For the first time caught public transport from Melbourne airport back to the office; that was complex as it took over 2 hours. Sure I get frequent flyer points! however these exertions do cost and I sometimes wonder and then the worry about 5000 kilometres of driving. Why do I do it? I do it so as I can meet my commitments to suppliers; both actual and inferred; to businesses who engage me to represent them, but really I do it so as I am not left wondering was there a business in doing this? Is there still a bookseller experience for our sort of business? Did the digital age kill the bookshop? Did the DDS's sweep all the consumers into a category killer environment? I meet wonderful vibrant people who are possessed with books (content) and these people never doubt that content will always survive. My issue may be that the numbers of booksellers will decrease over time, as evidenced by the spate over over the last month. I am writing this from Perth WA - the new home of how the West won the content selling stakes. The booksellers out West are very optimistic and new shops, new owners characterise the landscape. To answer my rhetoric questions. With our disparate list we can't compete with the regular publishing businesses as we are exposed to the outcome of publishing trends. Our December list contains 80 books. This is the creative outpouring from independent publishing down under. But it comes with frustrations as we can't be like the other businesses who have a regulated supply of content - either through the canal from overseas, or via

significant local investment. I can't get away from the facts. This is the probable reason why our sales via the online vendors is so big a share of our sales: they all take the daily feed plus the new title visibility produced each month, then the consumers start right out of the gate. Did the digital age kill the bookseller? Only if the bookseller wished to be subsumed due to having a "likeness" desire. Really with so many great physical book experiences digital is only a tissue. (Time to say what my last book purchase was: I bought the US cased edition of the last Larry McMurtry. I had as usual lusted over the bound edition and now I own it) Did the DDS's sweep away my customers? Well only if you ceased to resist via product sameness. Having stated the above I do have to say our ebook unit sales doubled last month against the same month last year. By the way if you have under bought on the ANZAC 100 years we have relisted on this months new title order form: the publisher is pushing for us to sell 50,000 copies over the next 4 years. I think Cathi is right. Sorry to see Morris Lurie pass away: I first sold Morris in the 1970's when William Collins published the 27th Annual African Hippopotamus Race - I sold so many! Morris's work will live on as Hybrid Publishers will be producing ebooks of his first books from the 1960's and thank you to Phillip Adams from LNL on RN for his kind words. Read more, sell more DJ

Luke Elliott and Claudia Marsden have fallen in love at a perilous time. The Second World War is raging in the Pacific, barbed wire and gun emplacements are strung along the northern beaches in preparation for invasion. As the war moves closer, their 'sextet' of loyal school friends is splintering as individual career dreams are pursued. Luke yearns to be a journalist but a start in newspapers is proving challenging. The war's end unexpectedly provides Luke's big break, but the pursuit of his dream will keep him away from Australia and Claudia, with surprising consequences for them both. "Above The Fold is a big‐hearted novel that explicitly examines notions of love and loyalty... Anyone who enjoys reading about post‐war Australian history and the attitudes that informed much of it, will be delighted." Gabrielle Lord, author of Dishonour "Written with meticulous detail, this is an engaging story spanning a tumultuous period in Australian history." Nicole Alexander, author of The Great Plains. AUSTRALIA –Images and Inspiration combines the talents of two very creative Australians –author Mocco Wollert and visual artist Glenise Clelland. Australia’s vastness has inspired many other artists and authors but the words and images in this book are as diverse as the two women who created them. Each painting is different, every word meaningful. Mocco Wollert is an award winning author with over 200 published works. She has lived and worked in Northern Australia and now lives in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Glenise Clelland has won many prizes and has been exhibiting her paintings in Australia and overseas for the past 35 years. Her work is in Government , Corporate and private collections. Glenise has spent many enjoyable years travelling and working in the Pacific Islands and Northern Australia. She now lives in Noosa, Queensland, Australia. Glenise always travels with a sketch book in hand to record moments glimpsed and unbelievable colours of Australia which she now shares in her paintings. Both Mocco and Glenise have lived and travelled throughout Australia and this successful collaboration celebrates their personal and unique response to their individual experiences. This book covers vast distances from the tropical rainforests in the north to the dry open plains of central Australia and the rugged cliffs of the Kimberley, to the delights of the Great Barrier Reef. All Australians, and anyone who has travelled in Australia, will identify with the images and words in this book. Glenise’s landscapes are inspired by Nature but are not a photographic representation of what she sees. Mocco’s sensitive and inspiring words show her connection to the Australian landscape she loves. Both are passionate about expressing their love for their country in their individual way. This is Mocco and Glenise’s third collaboration. Together Mocco and Glenise have produced two other books bringing together their individual talents and vision.

While 'voluntary' cadet training was a feature of Australian and New Zealand schools during the mid‐nineteenth century, a form of 'compulsory' cadet training becam the norm from 1910 through to the 1920s, in both government and non‐government schools. In this respect, Australia was 'more British than the British,' as there was no compulsory military training in the schools of Great Britain, or in any British Empire countries during this period. A large proportion of the over half a million Anzacs who served in the Great War did so willingly, because they had been trained for war in the schools of both countries. They soon found themselves serving as cannon fodder in the fields of Gallipoli and on the Western Front. Many of these former cadets were survivors who wrestled with their personal demons for the rest of their lives. This research shows how our schools were used by the respective governments to help prepare a ready‐made army of well‐trained, disciplined and patriotic young lads, glad to risk their lives in the terrifying, bloody and mindless conflict that was World War 1. About the Author: Dr Max Waugh is a former Victorian Government primary school teacher, school principal and later lecturer in the History of Education at Deakin and Monash Universities. Currently retired, he has an honorary position as an Adjunct Research Fellow in the Education Faculty at Monash University in Melbourne. As a teenager, Max was a cadet in the Air Training Corps, North Melbourne Squadron, and completed his National Service training at the RAAF Base in Laverton, Victoria, during 1955 and 1956.

Spanning two centuries, Making Herstory is a unique window into the raw pioneer existence of Mary Ann Thwaites, her daughter Ethel, who grew up in the 1870s Victorian town of Queenscliff, and her granddaughter Theodora, who conquered the men’s domain of the Tasmanian wilderness in the late 1930s. Alive with twists and connections, we wonder what Theo’s outspoken mother, Ethel, is hiding. Unravelling her secret brings an understanding of why her daughter took to hiking, mountaineering and skiing in Tasmania, never returning to seaside Queenscliff, where one of the most scenic and historically significant places was Thwaites Walk, named for the Thwaites men — T h e o ’ s grandfather, uncles and cousins. This is a significant herstory. The voices of these women speak to us through letters, diaries, stories, newspapers and magazines, reverberating across time and changing with each location, adding to the often dismissed, but important, wealth of recorded female experience.

About the Authors Helen Downey has written feature stories for The Age, Canberra Times, Sunday Herald and The Weekly Times. She is the author of the History on Stage series, and co‐author of the Techne leaflet series for ACTA. She is a former secondary art, media studies, history and English teacher, and is now a member of the Secondary Art and Craft Standing Committee, and a Queenscliff Information Centre Volunteer Heritage Guide. Lorraine Secen holds a Certificate of Business Studies (Law), a Diploma of Financial Planning, a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Specialist Accreditation 1998. She maintains an ongoing interest in, and love of, people, their lives and their stories. Woven throughout life has been a great love of family, of photography, of nature, of music and of learning. Baffled by the endless stream of private school students and tertiary graduates waiting tables, Melbourne restaurateur Peter Coronica began to research how and why these young people found themselves in such a place. Your Boss's Boots exposes the real issues facing our youth in a complex labour market. The book educates and entertains with many stories, each linked to the issues described, yet it also empowers young people everywhere to get past the gate keepers of today's labour market ‐ the bosses ‐ and to succeed in the workplace. Your Boss's Boots focuses on how gaining working experience at a young age, understanding a boss' needs and exceeding expectations will help a young person to build a pathway to a rewarding career. There is a large gap between the educated school leaver, their skills, and the needs of employers. This book will narrow that gap. About the Author: Peter Coronica commenced hiring young people in 1992 as he embarked on a successful career as a restaurateur. Since then he has employed over 1000 young Australians and weathered innumerable changes to the economic and small business landscape. The effects of a changing economy and the increasing risks associated with small business ownership now translates to a highly competitive jobs market for our youth. Peter’s book, Your Boss’s Boots, is the product of countless hours research and over 25 years youth employment experience. Available Now

The Gallipoli Campaign which began on 25 April 1915 was one of the biggest Allied defeats of World War One. Yet it stirred the imaginations and passions of many, evoking thoughts for some of the reconquest of the ancient Byzantine capital of Constantinople, and for Jewish and Arab nationalists of the establishment of independent nations. The Gallipoli (or Dardanelles) Campaign was pivotal in the formation of the modern Middle East, as it ultimately resulted in the collapse of the 400 year old Ottoman Turkish Empire, which led in turn to the establishment of the Arab nations of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Saudi Arabia ‐ and the Jewish nation of Israel. Gallipoli was the beginning of a road that led to Beersheba, Jerusalem and Damascus. Those military successes by the soldiers of the British Empire (assisted by Feisal and Lawrence), created the political environment for the establishment of those new nation entities. The destinies of many nations were associated with Gallipoli, including Australia and New Zealand (the Anzacs) which fought their first battle there as sovereign nations. This is an updated version of Anzacs, Empires and Israel's Restoration 1798‐1948 (published in 1998), but includes more archival material and culminates on 25 April 1920, when the League of Nations legally laid the foundations for Israel and for some of those Arab nations to come into existence.

December 2014 New Title Release When Australian Don Laridis turns 37 he realises that it's time for a 'real' change. He chooses to relocate to South Korea, a country he knows very little about. Unbeknownst to him, the plight of the English academy that he's been recruited for is on the brink of financial collapse. Instead of running he opts to stay, reveling and losing himself in this uncertain situation. Laridis teaches English to farm kids, university students, corporate types and housewives - people immersed in a sometimes obsessive pursuit of a second language, even to the brink of murder. This factional story reveals his exposure to the idiosyncracies of a foreign culture, not just in the curious dynamics of private education, but also in the diverse characters he meets on the hoof. Bob Blunt peeks into the moral fabric of unfamiliar culture that's dealing with Confucian traditions and new found modernity. He narrates, prods, pricks, and observes while keeping us tight in step with the central characters. Available Now

Intense media scrutiny, interfering superior officers, and corrupt business interests all threaten to derail the homicide investigation conducted by the Serious Crimes Squad. Forensic analysis, dogged detective work, and inspiration may prove insufficient in the search for the true perpetrators. The team must face unpalatable truths about the nature of professional sport and the exercise of power in modern Australian society. Detective Inspector John Mahoney, the hero of this international crime series of police procedurals, is an outsider in his hometown of Hobart. Disillusioned by his private life and shocked by the corruption he unearths, he queries his capacity to continue in the job. He must decide if he has the courage to "speak truth to power" About the Author: S J Brown (Stephen John Brown) resides in Tasmania where the D.I. Mahoney series is set. His passion for crime fiction determined his choice of the police procedural format as a means of exploring the challenges of modern life. A former teacher and sports coach, he drew on his travel experiences and observations of Australian society for the writing of HIGH BEAM. The sequel to this debut novel, DEAD WOOD, is to be published in early 2015. Negotiations for the production of a TV series set in the Apple Isle have commenced. December 2014 New Title Release Over a thousand years ago the Norse reached the Americas, but never stayed. What if they had? Join us as we rewrite history, documenting the rise of The United States of Vinland. Following on from The Landing comes Red Winter. Eskil's dream of settling the newly discovered lands of the west to honour the Gods is under way. Godsland and Lakeland are no longer alone, as new villages grow and prosper in a world of fjords, valleys, forests and mountains, all of it claimed in the name of Odin. For over twenty years factional rivalries have also grown, but the Halls of Wolves and Ravens must face a challenge that comes heralded by crying war horns and a horizon stained with plumes of smoke. Can the young and vulnerable settlements survive such a challenge? But this is not the only trial the Norse Marklanders will face. Back across the sea in their peoples' ancient homelands there are those who are jealous of the prosperity they see in the west. War is coming to Markland.

December 2014 New Title Release The epic of Adam Exx, the first man on earth, continues. Adam is trying to lead a fulfilling life as a Sydney lawyer, but Nigel Chandler coerces him into working for The Study Corporation constructing human memory. Adam goes to work in a vast building called The Cone, where his world and those of other ‘Adamites’ are created according to their expectations. He meets up again with Rimini, the girl he’d loved and lost. Just as his life seems to be reaching stability, Adam finds his world decaying around him and is offered a frightening choice. Adam Exx Exodus will make you stop and think about your own assumptions of reality as it takes you on an unpredictable journey of imagination and possibility. What author Alan Gold said about Adam Exx Genesis; “Genesis is a fascinating and rewarding book, well written and devised. It is subtitled “Book 1”, which leads to speculation that book two might very well lead to an Exodus, and see Adam Exx taking off to a galaxy far far away for more adventures. “McEwing is a consummate fiction writer and his novel “Genesis” is a tour de force of fantasy and thrills, of romance and eschatology, but like his hero’s namesake in the first book of the Bible, Adam Exx is a soul in search of reality.” About the Author A magazine editor for most of his career, Fraser Beath McEwing has written both fiction and nonfiction for leading Australian magazines and newspapers. He is the author of three novels. Adam Exx Book One Genesis, published in 2012, was the first in the Adam Exx trilogy. This is Book Two.

What does it mean to be a great cook? What does it take to be an owner & chef? Scott Pickett, owner‐chef of two celebrated Melbourne restaurants, began his career at the age of 14 in a winery restaurant and did his apprenticeship with two notable Adelaide chefs. He has learnt his craft with some of the greats – P h i l Howard of The Square in London, Philippe Mouchel in Melbourne. A Cook’s Story tells of a life that combines a passion for food with the art and crafts of cooking. It’s an open and sometimes confronting account of dramas in the kitchen, the roller‐coaster of opening one restaurant, the demands of opening a second, the pleasures and challenges of competition and success. Noted chef and owner Scott Pickett worked with respected food writer Rita Erlich to tell his story. About the Author

Estelle is the first restaurant for chef Scott Pickett. Scott developed a fascination for produce while growing up on his family’s farm in Kangarilla. This hands on lifestyle allowed him to grow and nurture his talent, and soon he began working as an apprentice chef in various South Australian restaurants. Having won the Salon Culinaire at the young age of 18, Scott was dubbed as ‘one to watch’ by Judge Bruno Cerdan. He has certainly proven this true over the years, having worked in many internationally renowned restaurants – as sous chef to Philip Howard at The Square in London, and with Donovan Cooke at Melbourne’s three-hatted restaurant Ondine. After an extremely successful tenure at The Point in Albert Park: which earned the restaurant Two Hats in The Age Good Food Guide, Scott realised a lifelong dream by opening his very own Estelle. Scott has kept his foot on the pedal; ensuring Estelle received a Chefs Hat in their first year of opening, and solidifying it as a valued member of the Melbourne food scene. He recently launched a second venue, Saint Crispin, in partnership with chef/ restaurateur Joe Grbac. At the 2014 Age Good Food Guide Awards Saint Crispin was awarded One Hat and Best New Restaurants 2014. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

In a tale of drama and suspense, the true story of the quest to find the Unknown South Land ‐Terra Australis Incognita is told. It has fascinated people since ancient times. Many Australians were taught Englishman James Cook discovered Australia but Cook came 164 years later than the Dutch and Spanish explorers. The Indigenous people were there from time immemorial. Quiros thought he'd discovered the south land when he landed at today's Vanuatu. Torres continued and found the Torres Strait separated New Guinea from the south land. Despite all the passion of the Spanish quest, the Dutch under Janszoon beat Torres to Australia by about six months in 1606. They had deadly encounters with the Aboriginal people of western Cape York, Queensland. "This is a highly insightful coverage of the main historical characters in the early European exploration of the South West Pacific, a topic which is virtually unknown to most Australians. Miller deftly contextualises the men: Quiros ('the Don Quixote of the South sea'), Torres and Janszoon with their voyages in the 16th and 17th centuries. Similarly, she places the actions of these adventurers in the context of the respective Indigenous responses to contact. From the Wik at Aurukun and the Tjungundji and others around (Old) Mapoon on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, to the descendents at Big Bay on Vanuatu and other Melanesian groups, the author brings the reader up-to-date with the reconciliation process and the Indigenous perspective on these early European contacts. This is a valuable contribution to not only understanding Australian history, but is also relevant to the Islands of Melanesia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia."Dr Timothy Bottoms, Author of Conspiracy of Silence - Queensland's frontier killing times (Allen & Unwin 2013) Available Now

To write or fight? That was the question. What to do when Victoria's oldest scientific institution, the Royal Melbourne Botanic Gardens, plans to exterminate struggling native flying foxes ‐ while telling the public the opposite? What to do when journalists collude with cruelty and Victoria's liberal vet‐Premier Denis Napthine allocates millions of dollars to brutal jumps racing while sacking thousands of workers? When racing 'legends' believe that 'bad horses need the whip' or when killing native animals for fun is seen as a tradition and a right? Lawrence Pope tracks his journey from working on confronting shifts in 'psych', counselling and social work to equally disturbing experiences in Victoria's animal advocacy movement and public fights with old Melbourne's "old money". "a unique voice that [is] rational and eloquent, angry and profane by turns... an important social document."Professor Freya Mathews, La Trobe University ‐ Philosophy "A record of intense, persistent and aggressive activism which has utilised the focus of rare logic along with a rigid, unwavering desire to try to make those responsible for animal abuse, accountable." ‐ Jim Roberts About the Author: Lawrence Pope was born in 1960 in the Diamond Valley which sounds romantic but wasn’t. Married, he lives in North Carlton with his wife Megan and cat Mr Wallace. For two decades he has publicly advocated for the more humane treatment of animals and has led several high profile animal campaigns. His essays have appeared in various magazines and also The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, Adelaide Sunday Mail and Herald Sun newspapers. Lawrence regularly speaks on radio 3CR’s Freedom of Species program and, though pessimistic, he continues to hope for a saner world.

From debut author Hayden Bradford comes a rip roaring yarn which could be the funniest book published this year. 'Travesty' is an unashamedly hilarious tale of a bloke so hard done by in his life, he could only have been born from the imagination of another bloke. His mother named him Travesty as she believed his birth signalled the beginning of one long, drawn out disaster for her. But without warning, Travesty's life comes to an abrupt and ridiculously funny end. He is then delivered to Heaven. How does that happen to an atheist?

Emma Poldark, cossetted teenage daughter of Port Arthur's Commandant, is helplessly in love with the suave doctor, Hugh Chilcott. She spends her days walking her dog desperately hoping to speak to him. Jack Wainwright, arrested in London for a trivial offence is transported to Van Diemen's Land, chained to hardened criminals, to face the horror of life as a convict. At Port Arthur Jack and Emma's lives unexpectedly collide, setting off a series of events that are authentic, humorous, poignant and utterly compelling. This intensely moving, racy novel vividly brings history to life - the genteel clink of teacups, the rustling of satin gowns, a piano playing a long-forgotten melody, a parallel world existing alongside the dark world of the penal system the clank of metal chains, the brutality and hopelessness of the convicts' lives, their anger and despair. And the realisation that appearances are not always what they seem to be. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

A Project in Ammonia is an adventure in physical management and social engineering and contradicts turgeon's Law (ninety percent of everything is crud) by exploring what happens when an unlikely group of four people, two Australians, one English and one French‐ Israeli, fight their way through the bureaucratic maze of their employer, assisted behind the scenes by the Chief Executive, and get what they want: exile to a colony, to build a fertilizer factory there. All against the preferences of the company's directors who persistently do what they can to upset the exiles' work, including adding an American colonist to the team, a person expected to be incompatible with the others. Some of their time at work is normal boring crud. But some is fun, some brings headaches, some is heart‐breaking, some is deadly. It's all adventurous. Available Now

For Freedom's Cause is a historical, romantic thriller set in England and Australia between the world wars. It follows the adventures and growing relationship between a working class English army officer from Manchester, Dan Bevan, and a Melbourne barrister, serving with the Australian Light Horse, Charlie Elliott, who met by chance during the First World War and the strong women in their lives. Having survived several of the major battles, both men are so disillusioned with the homes and occupations they return to, that Dan volunteers to suppress the republican rebellion in Ireland and Charlie joins an underground army to stand-up against mob riots in Melbourne. Despite their contrasting social origins and differing views on what form of government is best for preserving freedom and maintaining civil order, they become firm friends and when Dan is targeted by vengeful IRA assassins, he accepts Charlie's invitation to escape to Australia where he intends settling down peacefully in Melbourne, with the love of his life who unknown to him has borne him a son. When IRA gunmen pursue him from Melbourne to Perth he is forced to flee to a cattle station in the Kimberley where, finally reunited with his wife and son, he confronts his nemesis in that vast and mystical wilderness. For Freedom's Cause is the first book in The Kimberley Trilogy of Australian adventure novels which span the first, second and, yet to come, third world war.

Battle for the North is the second in The Kimberley Trilogy of Australian adventure novels which span the first, second and, yet to come, third world war. It reunites the heroes and heroines of For Freedom's Cause -Dan, Charlie, Elspeth Liza and Alice, in frustrating Japanese espionage plots and raids into northern Australia during World War 2. The action takes place in the Kimberley wilderness and celebrates the daring and heroism of mounted North Australian Observer Unit patrols, nicknamed the 'Nackeroos' or 'Curtin's Cowboys.' Following on from the bombing of Darwin and Broome, Japanese marine commandos land on the Kimberley coast to establish a foothold and deny the US and Australian Navies a secure re-fuelling and supply base. In the absence of Australia's regular forces in the Middle East and Singapore, all that stands between them and success is Dan Bevan's and Charlie Elliott's part-time observer patrols, which battle a Japanese special forces unit from Broome to their Kalumburu base and join the fight to push the enemy back into the sea. Flight Captain Daniel Bevan returns from the Battle of Britain to join the air war over northern Australia and whilst Dan and Charlie conduct their guerrilla campaign in the bush, their wives and Lady Elspeth interrupt their war work in Darwin to thwart black market thugs and hunt down a murderous Spy.

Kimberley Kill is the third in the Kimberley trilogy of Australian adventure novels which span the first, second and yet to come third world war. An international religious war has broken out across the Middle East between Sunni and Shia Islamic sects cutting off all energy supplies from that region. Frustrated by its inability to acquire sufficient energy to power its ever expanding economy, China has invaded Russia, annexing the Siberian oil and gas fields and precipitating World War 3.

In this true-life romance, Barbara Harkness embarks on an emotional journey of love, sacrifice and self-empowerment. A year on from the end of her marriage and seeking adventure, Barbara travels to Europe where she meets Michael, the charming Englishman with whom she falls desperately in love. The only problem is, he is married. From Paris and Bordeaux, to the vineyards of South Australia and back to the romantic Cote D'Azur, she gradually comes to terms with the sacrifices she has had to make to reclaim her life and the romance she has always dreamed of. Along the way, she learns that something as precious as love can never be taken for granted.

As a teenager, you have unique talents, passions and potential. But finding your way through life is tough. The emotional and physical changes you are experiencing in your transformation from childhood to adulthood are perhaps the most dramatic, chaotic and stressful you will ever face. You will be trying to work things out for yourself, sometimes talking with friends or asking parents and others who have been through it. Making it tougher still, the education system tends to focus on material and economic success and not enough on education of the mind, the emotions and personal growth. This book aims to help correct that imbalance, focusing on the emotional issues of: * Self-acceptance and acceptance of others * Self-esteem * A positive selfimage * Self-belief * Emotional well-being * Independence and inter-dependence. For parents, loving your teenage son or daughter is not enough. He or she needs to feel that you appreciate them as a blossoming human being, whose talents and uniqueness require constant nurturing, support and encouragement and whose dreams are sufficiently intriguing to be worth exploring.

Wrongly punished for breaking the ancient laws, Samantha Honeycomb is expelled by the queen into the wild and untamed Crazy Lands. Her only hope of redemption is an impossible quest ‐ to find the fabled hive of Beebylon and bring back its secret of Infinite Richness. But there are others who would see her fail. Evoking the wisdom and mystery of the ancient sages, Scott Zarcinas reveals through the trials and tribulations of Samantha Honeycomb that the surface appearance of unpleasant and torturous experiences are, in fact, essential ingredients in the melting pot of our future joy, acceptance and security, our destiny.

Can one woman's passion be shared between two men? In the early 1990s Katie McFarlane is a nurse living in suburban Adelaide. For Katie, life is as normal as it gets, but a chance meeting with Paul Redman sends her life into an uncontrollable tailspin. Katie is swept into the fast lane of wealth, happiness and uninhibited emotion. As each glorious day passes, wealthy Paul Redman becomes increasingly determined to weave their futures together as one. However, tragedy strikes and Katie flees her familiar life in grief and confusion. A near fatal accident sends her on a collision course with Gabe Caplin, a kind, reclusive giant of a man from a suppressed and violent childhood. All he knows is the simple uncomplicated existence of running a farm, but he knows what he wants: he wants desperately to love and to be loved. And he desperately wants Katie McFarlane. Katie is torn between her love for Paul Redman and her increasing desire for Gabe Caplin. Her world and life is threatened in a final confrontation when vengeful psychopath Scarfe Olsen comes calling ‐ and shooting. In the tradition of Graham Guy's most popular novels, Eleven Days is a sweeping saga of tender love that weaves its way through an explosive adventure.

Fleeing the dreaded plague that has struck his village, the orphaned Giacomo heads to the mountains and its mysterious Golden City in search of the Elixir of Life, the only thing that can save the village and the woman he loves. His quest brings him face to face with the Six Thieves, cunning enemies that will stop at nothing to see him fail, and even with the Angel of Death herself. In the tradition of The Pilgrim Chronicles set by Samantha Honeycomb, The Golden Chalice is a compelling adventure story of self‐discovery. Scott Zarcinas was born in South Australia and studied as a pediatrician before embarking on his Life Purpose as a writer. He lives in Adelaide with his wife and daughters.

Grace thinks everything about her life is wrong. When the Wind makes a dramatic entry into her life, it forces Grace to question her sense of reality. Despite her initial reluctance, Grace and the Wind gradually develop an intense relationship through a series of extraordinary conversations. The Wind teaches Grace to perceive life through the wisdom conveyed in nature's rhythms‐ circadian cycles, tidal and lunar sequences and the movements of the seasons‐so that nature's intelligence becomes her intelligence. Grace struggles with the teachings, but with the Wind as her guide she discovers how everything creates out of patterns. Could the key to flowing with the rhythms of nature, and not against them, be found in the essence of her name? In Grace and the Wind, futurist Kristina Dryža delivers a modern allegorical novel on how the very nature of life itself is expressed and experienced as rhythmic patterns of energy.

The collection of poems Desires Dreams and Thoughts in Between has arisen from the many inspirations in life that prompt inner emotions and set the cogs of the mind turning. Often we may analyse our own behavioural patterns. We share feelings amongst friends, formulate ideas and gain wisdom by increasing our knowledge through life's lessons. The words within are responses to the flow of thoughts produced from such occasions.

A restricted diet can be daunting, but if it is embraced it can be surprising just how easy it can be to prepare and how tasty the recipes are. This keeps the focus on what can be eaten and enjoyed rather than what cannot. The right diet for children is one that helps them grow and develop, but also one that establishes a foundation for normal behaviour around food and one that is varied, tasty and nutritious. Unfortunately some children who have food allergies do develop abnormal behaviour around food. Some are scared of food because they associate it with an unpleasant experience whilst others associate certain foods with anxiety – (sometimes parental). This is why normalising food, and eating as much variety as possible is the key to successful management. Issues that some children with food allergies can have due to their mistrust of foods include: • Poor acceptance and or dislike of certain textures. Dislikes of lumps or more than one texture served at a time • Dislike of foods touching each other on a plate – if they are served in separate bowls or on compartmentalised plates this is often acceptable • Refusing to eat with others – some want to eat alone or even in their bedrooms • Hiding foods that are considered as unacceptable • Accepting foods only when what is being eaten can be identified. A dish containing mixed foods such as bolognaise or stew is not acceptable to the child • Refusing foods usually eaten because a disliked food is on the same plate With nutritious recipes for meals and snacks, this cookbook will get your fussy eaters eating a healthy and well-balanced diet. Everything a parent could ask for.

Ever wondered why 'his' doesn't have a Z? Or what on Earth is O doing in 'won'? Ever asked why GH is in 'through'? Or what is the point of silent letters? At last a book which spills the beans on English spelling. English spelling has rules and lots of them. Paquita Boston explains why English spelling is so difficult, much harder than spelling in most other languages. Boston also reveals the various codes that govern English spelling and describes how these codes are keys to hidden treasure, the cultural inheritance of all English speaking people. Boston treats spelling as a game as serious as any sport, with as many rules and as many game changes. After reading this book you'll actually enjoy spelling and no longer view English as a 'funny language without many spelling rules'. Instead, you will want to share the inside story on English spelling with young and old.

“Crescent Moon Rising” Australia becomes a target for a militant Islamist group determine to punish American allies. Indonesian terrorists aligned with other South East Asian Islamic fundamentalists attack Australians across the region. American intelligence sources are aware that these attacks are under way but why don’t they share this information with Australia? ‘Crescent Moon Rising” is a riveting account not only of the preparations that brought death to so many young Australians in Bali but also provides revelations that the Americans knew in advance that these attacks would occur... At a time when Australians are wavering in support of a proposed US-led invasion of Iraq, more than six hundred US Marines rotating on R & R in Bali suddenly disappear; then, Kuta erupts in a fireball and Australia falls into line with America's demand to become part of the 'Coalition of the Willing'. Based on indisputable fact, a step by step account of the Bali bombers, the rise of extremist Islamic militancy across Asia and what the future might hold when terror is unleashed on Australia's doorstep, 'Crescent Moon Rising' relates the rise of militant Islam across Asia and how the US and other foreign intelligence agencies missed opportunities to arrest not only the instigators of the September 11 attacks on the USA but also those who created the Jemaah Islamiyah and carried out the Bali bombings. The Bojinka Plot is uncovered in Manila but the US ridicules the contents found on a white Toshiba laptop discovered after an apartment fire. The computer files lay out an assassination plot against the Pope who would visit that week, and the detailed plan to hijack 11 aircraft and crash these into the World Trade Towers and other US targets. For twelve‐year‐old battleship hobbyist, Graham Kirk, opportunities like this don't come along every day. He jumps at the chance to fulfil his dream of becoming a sailor like his father and enlists as a navy cadet. But he has discovered girls and is torn between doing what's right and doing what's forbidden. When at a party Graham overhears a terrorist plot to sink a US navy destroyer as it sails into Cairns harbour. But who should he tell when his superiors don't trust him? And what role does his new girlfriend, Thelma, have to play? Is she just an innocent anti‐war protestor, or has his desire for her blinded him to the awful truth? His initiation into the navy cadets comes with some unexpected‐and dangerous‐complications... and Graham quickly learns that there's no substitute for self‐respect and being true to yourself.

Resisting the Enemy follows the story of Valentine de Vaillant - known as Valli from a twelve-year-old schoolgirl in Australia to a young woman living in German Occupied France. From the moment Valli joins a Resistance Group, she engages in a series of clandestine activities that at any moment could lead to arrest by the dreaded Gestapo. When a German Army officer is billeted at her grand-mother's villa, Valli's world is thrown into turmoil. How can she possibly reconcile her growing attraction to a German - a member of a brutal and oppressive regime - with her life as a French patriot and resistant? Resisting the Enemy is a thrilling story of conflict, danger and passion. A love between enemies that seems impossibly doomed. It moves from the beaches of Australia, to the boulevards of pre-war Paris, through the German invasion and the dark years of the Occupation. It is also about music and opera, the enduring bonds of friendship, and one young woman's fight to resist oppression, no matter what the odds.
