About the Author After a career in teaching, marketing, public relations and private employment, Suzanne McCourt has embraced the joys and challenges of a writing life. Her first novel is currently with a publisher, she has won prizes for her short stories, and several of her poems trundle around Melbourne on trains as part of the Moving Galleries project. Suzanne’s life changed dramatically when she adopted Brando, a three year old Poodle of great gentleness and wisdom. Through Brando she became involved in pet therapy in hospitals and also founded FIDO & CO (Fellowship of Informed Dog Owners & Cat Owners), a community group that worked with her local Council to develop a Domestic Animal Plan which has made the Bayside area where she lives in suburban Melbourne, one of the most pet friendly in the world. When Brando died, Suzanne discovered she was far from alone in loving and losing an old dog. She has written ‘Old Dogs’ in remembrance of Brando and for dog owners all over the world.

Shanaka Fernando is often hailed as a modern‐day revolutionary best known for his 'pay‐what‐you‐can‐afford' community restaurants in Melbourne. He was named Australia's Local Hero in the Australian of the Year Awards and was a guest judge on MasterChef alongside the Dalai Lama. This book strips back the labels that have been slapped onto Shanaka's media‐built poster boy persona and gives us an insight into some of the experiences that have shaped the man he has become. This entrancingly honest and refreshingly candid memoir hints at the roots of Shanaka's early social awakening with tales of a 1970s childhood in Sri Lanka's capital, Columbo. From his upbringing within an eccentric extended family living in a residential compound populated with a throng of memorable characters, we accompany the grown up Shanaka on his travels from Australia to Asia to South America and back as he explores new ways of living his life. "Fernando is one of those rare pioneers who are prepared to live by their convictions, flaunt social convention and challenge the status quo. The story of his lifelong quest for meaning ‐ and the 'experiment in generosity' that became Lentil As Anything ‐ is inspiring and challenging in equal measure. Few autobiographies are likely to evoke the senses and soul quite as much as Fernando's tale of global travel, self‐exploration and cultural innovation"‐ Dr Wayne Visser, Director of Kaleidoscope Futures and author of "The Quest for Sustainable Business" and "The Age of Responsibility" Strong Media Campaign

From the Author I hope you are ready to hear the uncensored truth about how real sustainable wealth and independence is created in these tough times that don’t seem to want to end. Most people of course, are not ready for such conversation and instead prefer to bury their head in the sand in the hope that somehow things will mysteriously improve. If that is your plan, you’re in for a rude awakening. Understand, in spite of all this devastation we see around us, there is a small number of more informed individuals making more money than they ever have. Now maybe it’s your turn! What I reveal in this book requires that you have no experience or special skills, it works even if you know nothing about sales and marketing right now. It will recession proof your business and income for life and put you in the top 5% of business owners on the planet. It’s the ultimate money making skill you will ever master. This works for any small businesses in big cities and country towns, wholesale, retail, trades, professional practices, manufacturing, online and offline. My system can transform any existing business into something new and exciting and profitable or it can be used as the geneses to speed up the success of a brand new startup. In a world of economic uncertainty and insecurity where cash flow shrivels, pain and anxiety prevail, I know my system can show virtually anyone how to create their own economy and flourish. By the way, I didn’t dream any of this up last night. I have a 37 year old track record making millions of dollars for myself and more importantly, helping others do the same. Finally, you will decide how much money you make and how hard you work for it.

About Horses of Course and Horse Humans Too
The world can be divided between Horse Humans and the rest, just as it can be divided, for example, between those who love cricket and the rest of humanity who have not the remotest interest in the game. Yet there is so much within the pages of this book that is of general interest ‐ controversial, practical, historical, philosophical, and otherwise more esoteric ‐ it would be presumptuous not to assume that at least a modicum of those who have nothing at all to do with horses might find it an utterly intriguing read; even lovers of cricket! Certainly, Horse Humans will discover it has not only deeply thought provoking appeal but, in many parts, is extraordinarily revealing of facts about horses and the Horse/Human relationship that they may never have considered or known. For without the horse, human history would have been so completely different as to be totally unrecognisable in any of the ways in which we now understand it to have occurred. In this his second book, Alistair Brooks weaves an intricately rich and colourful tapestry, which embraces horses from their beginnings in North America fifty‐five million years ago down to the present day where, in their multi‐various breeds, they can be found living on all the inhabitable parts of our planet. He does this entirely from one horse's point of view. Sun Dancer is a venerable Sage Horse, as well as an Equine School Master. He is both wise and knowledgeable. But he is modest too and yet, possibly for the first time ever, he is a horse who has the means to share, in the pages of a book, his vast knowledge and wisdom, along with the hugely ancient trace memories of his kind.

Set in the post 9/11 world, Australia is still a country of relative innocence with our terror threat at medium to low. All that is about to change. With the Bali bombings, boats on the horizon, and the threat of global terrorism on the increase, the Prime Minister instructs our overseas intelligence agency ASIS (Australian Secret intelligence Service) to activate an independent covert team, designated Section Zulu, to move around our closest Asian neighbours and alert Canberra to any terrorist plans, never realising the enemy could already be inside the fence. When that overseas team Section Zulu, uncovers intelligence of threats to Australia the Prime Minister decides the last line of defence will be a small locally‐based covert team that will secretly terminate that threat. Headed by ex‐SASR officer Tony McAvin, and together with electronic surveillance experts, the crack team track down homegrown terrorists. But can the team overcome living and working in a shadowy world of death and deception and still become the force the country so desperately needs.

December 2012 The Diaries Of A Corporate Princess tells the tale of a woman who thinks she has it all. The first third of the book covers some of her corporate adventures, ranging from sipping Dom Pérignon in First Class as a Level 7 typhoon strikes Hong Kong airport, through to a visit to a mine site in southern China where the inhabitants have seen few Westerners. After suddenly losing her job and spending time consuming quantities of Bombay Sapphire and Kleenex tissues, she visits her mother in Western Australia, thinking nothing could get worse. Unfortunately, that proved to be a false assumption and she finds that she is to be homeless in less than three weeks. The reader follows her adventures as she returns to Sydney, re‐establishing her old life and seeking another job. After experiencing an “on the road to Damascus” moment, she decides to establish her own business from home. The last third of the book deals with her coming to grips with her new life, her two steps forward and one back, the disappointments, the expectations of a high achiever failing again and again and finally how she regains her tiara.

When families break down, it can often be difficult for parents to effectively communicate to each other about their children. Parents realise that their children’s lives are complex! It is important for the children of separated families, that both parents be kept informed, and involved in the events in their children’s lives. The Separated Families Communication Diary creates an effective way for both parents to be kept informed of the events in their children’s lives (eg. sporting, schooling and social events and also medical requirements), and aims to assist parents to successfully communicate and co‐parent their children.

First published in London in 1899, this classic tale by Helen Bannerman tells the story of a little boy named Sambo who encounters four hunger tigers, outwits them, and turns them into butter, before returning safely home to eat a 169 pancakes for his supper. Applewood Books is proud to reissue this classic edition of 'Little Black Sambo'. During the last thirty years, the book and its little hero have been the center of a big controversy. Sambo became, to some, a symbol of racism, and to others, he remained a long-remembered favorite. Many may wonder why we are reissuing this book. As with all the books we publish, we are reissuing this book as a window on our past. Recently, I read this book to my two young sons. When I asked them what they thought, they said they thought Sambo was a hero and marveled at his bravery. - The Publisher ď‚ˇď€ FIRM SALE
