Words from Dennis Little did I know it would be one of the more relevant works as our business cycle goes on (by the way I never was a fan of Carlos Castenada) Our most recent change is that we are moving to an outsourcing of all of our accounting tasks, this is hopefully to allow better compliance, and the ability to focus more on "content" as that is what is at the core of the business. In order to meet compliance we end up paying a big sum per year for the ability to pay monthly taxes to the ATO, be compliant with standards to ensure we are on an accurate path to taxation legibility. If you have a small to medium size business you are the same in compliance costs as a large business. The money saved can either be used for the cost of EDI technology - there is plenty to spend it on; and by outsourcing we are lowering certain thresholds. If Telstra do it why not. We signed the two leases on the warehouses knowing we have to reduce the impact of having so many books with no future; these are the ones where they were once sold, then returned, then we have to consider the 500 to 1000 publisher owners of those books. Old season stock is only now the domain of the online vendors who diligently take our feeds. Progressively we will digitise more of the books - once we contact the content owners. Somehow over the process of the next 12 months we have to quit up to 500,000 physical books. I did some analysis recently as part of our September new title releases and came up with the fact that not every book sells via the online businesses. The two examples were the Gratitude Diary for 2014 and the Award Winning Australian Writing 2013. The Gratitude Diary has something like 40% of its demand serviced via online vendors whereas the the Award Winning Australian Writing 2013 has 4% of the demand satisfied that way. One I can't work out. Back to the change cycle, those Arthur Upfield titles I have been spouting about for some months are finally finding their way to consumers. The first platform to market were the Large Print, Braille and DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) editions via Read How You Want; every library in Australia has been advised of the availability. The 29 eBooks went live over the weekend at $7.99. Finally. The next platform will be Print on Demand (via Lightning Source) and then I hope we can have some short run digital books printed (via Griffin). It is a broad range of platforms and the general print distribution ended up last this time. The books in the October list are from many new publishers and really show the nature of being an independent distributor of Australian content - it never slows down. They will all be on our daily in stock feeds for those who want this source of supply. The lead title is fascinating in how it came to us and breaks some tradition; so I hope we have your support. The Tom Keneally quote is glowing and I am in awe of those words. I am meeting Blanche at the end of the month and she has made herself available for author appearances and whatever is required so as we can all replicate or exceed the level of sales made by the previous publisher. The cred stakes are high! And the results will benefit all booksellers. At the end of the words - sometimes I feel that those books we are entrusted with are globally or universally valuable. This occurred last week where I met with Maree Coote to look at her new books. I have to be moderate here as she is denied entry in those hallowed halls that are availed to "real" publishers - but not Maree! - she is a publisher of the style that "gatekeepers" disallow. So, when I saw the first book I became emotional as I can see it at MONA, MOMA, NGA, NGV, and all those booksellers who so guard the control of their curated collection on offer. I also thought of the "Critici in Erba" and strongly suggested the book be submitted. If some of the old Collins Sydney crew read this they will remind me of the winner I am trying to remember. This month we are also adding another Taschen centrefold - remember don't send the order to DJA - send them to Gardners (UK) for that 50% discount. Good selling and better reading. DJ

The second novel in the compelling series about two of medieval history's most fascinating characters, Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. It is 1154 and Henry Plantagenet avenges his family honour by taking back the English throne from Stephen the Usurper. The kingdom he inherits is impoverished, lawless and broken by years of civil war. By his side is the beautiful, wealthy and indomitable Eleanor of Aquitaine. Combining forces, this golden couple use their charisma and shrewd diplomacy to crush rebellious barons and restore England's prestige and glory. However, an equally ambitious financial magician is needed to restore the royal treasury. Opportunistic Thomas Becket answers the call, using his appointment of Chancellor to fill not only the King's coffers but also his own. In a dance of ambition, vengeance and forbidden passions, Henry, his Queen and the Chancellor fight for political power and control against forces seen and imagined, each with their own agenda, each determined to hide their own shameful secrets. I was expecting the normal historical novel. This isn't it. This is fresh and invigorating and absolutely gripping. Blanche d'Alpuget has now turned to medieval history to produce an extraordinary tale of ruthlessly pursued political and personal aims. It seems she has reproduced the very texture of those times, their grittiness and brutality. The revision she provides of the motives and character of Thomas Becket will rivet readers as they have not been riveted since Hilary Mantel's Thomas Cromwell. Tom Keneally

This extremely well researched and written book delves into the life and musicality of James Morrison, one of Australia's most internationally acclaimed musicians. It follows his development from a child who cried each day in primary school to a confident performing maestro. James discovered his natural talent early and was playing international jazz festivals in his teens. He has the unique ability to play a variety of instruments to world-class standard while maintaining an affable and effervescent approach to his multi-faceted life. In his spare time he flies planes, loves boating, abseiling and gadgetry and has completed a triathlon, but above all he is a musician par excellence. This book critically examines his qualities, both musical and personal, his development and his rise to the highest echelons of music of every jazz genre. The book has been written with the cooperation of James Selling Points: * The book will appeal to a broad cross section of readers... fans, musicians, appreciators of literary biography. * James has a very high profile and the book will attract wide publicity nationally in print and electronic media. * James has been personally involved with the book and he and his management are willing to support it with publicity.

The initial print run sold out in weeks, this stock is from the publisher's reprint. The Drover - droving captured through the lens of a camera The red dust swirls around you, filling your lungs and coating your face, the cattle low as they march onwards, you crack a cold one at the end of a long hot day. The path of a drover is a long and difficult one. Droving is woven in the fabric of Australian history, but droving cattle long distances is a rare event today. Now you can view the epic Brinkworth drove, as captured through the lens of photographer Al Mabin in her new book The Drover. During last year's severe drought, South Australian farmer Tom Brinkworth purchased 18,000 cattle from AACo properties. The $8 million transaction was the largest single purchase in the history of Elders Livestock. Having purchased the cattle, the next question was how to get them home to Brinkworth's 35,000 hectare property Uardry Station near Hay, New South Wales. Doing the sums, the cost of trucking the cattle was roughly the same as walking them down. The journey started in June last year, covering 2000km and crossing two states, as the cattle were walked south 'On the Long Paddock'. Mabin, who is building a reputation for her ability to capture spectacular photos of the Australian outback, tracked down the phone number of head drover Bill Little and asked if she could take photos of the drove one weekend. She found herself thrown on a horse and joining the drove. Heading home and scrolling through the photos, she realised she was missing the cattle and yearning for the drove. She decided to return and photograph all nine mobs. The result is the stunning coffee table book The Drover, going to the heart of droving, the people, and most importantly - the cattle. This book is sure to appeal to anyone who has ever fallen in love with the outback, and those who inhabit it.

Long before it was commonplace for Aboriginal dance companies to tour the world. Or for outback "dot paintings" to sell for astronomical sums, it was country music that first gave Aboriginal People a voice in modern Australia. Black skin and country music might seem an unlikely pairing, but Aboriginal country music has a long and rich tradition, from pioneers like Jimmy Little and Dougie Young through Lionel Rose, the Country Outcasts and Auriel Andrew to Vic Simms, Roger Knox and Troy Casser-Daley. Telling black stories in a way white folks could understand as well, country music was not only a salve for its own dispossessed people, it offered common ground in a divided land, and the possibility of some kind of reconciliation. Packed with rare photographs and memorabilia, and including a detailed discography, Buried Country offers a fascinating account of the growth of this vital force in Aboriginal culture and its role in changing Australian society. This is an updated, revised version.

Breaking the Cycle - a world-first cycle expedition across Africa from Senegal to Somalia. The story of Kate Leeming's astonishing 22,000-kilometre trek by bicycle across Africa - dodging rebels, insurgents and Somali pirates and exotic and dangerous wildlife while battling extreme conditions from desert to jungled terrain on non-existent roads and faint tracks, is more than a story of mental grit and physical endurance. It is a fascinating exploration of African history: of powerful kings and for-gotten empires; of sophisticated learned civilisations and intricate spiritual beliefs and traditions; of unimaginable exploitation of human life and the environment; of brutal politics and endemic corruption. Through it all, the enduring spirit of the often-misnamed 'Dark Continent' shines brightly. Kate's path is blessed with the smiles, the songs and dance and abounding kindness of people whose character remains uncrushed by the injustice of poverty. It is a story of sacrifice and dogged determination by a passionate band of African and international organisations to shape a new history. Kate inves-tigates initiatives that give a 'leg up' rather than a 'hand out', outlining their vision and the achievements already made to improve health and education, build sustainable agriculture and industry and provide dignified employment and opportunity. Above all, it is a story of hope. Also from Kate Leeming...... Out There And Back ISBN

In 1993, Kate Leeming became the first woman in history to cycle the breadth of the 'New Russia', completing the 13,400-km TransSiberian Cycle Expedition to aid the children of Chernobyl. Ten years later, she organised the Great Australian Cycle Expedition (GRACE), a 25,000-km journey through Australia, 7,000 km of which were to be 'off road' on isolated tracks. This detailed account of an amazing journey into the heart of Australia is told with style, humour and insight. A highlight is Kate's description of the first bicycle crossing of the Canning Stock Route by a woman. The CSR is the world's longest stock route, and bisects four deserts and approximately one thousand sand dunes. Cycling without the aid of a support vehicle (for all but the CSR), and alone for the second half of the expedition, Kate celebrates the close connection and respect she developed with the Australian people and landscapes, skilfully weaving in information about early explorers and pioneers who shaped the outback. Illustrated by more than 300 full-colour photographs.

Nestled deep in the hills of the Great Dividing Range, 140 km east of Melbourne, lies the romantic gold town of Walhalla. Situated in a narrow twisting valley, Walhalla is the very image of a ghost town, with cabins clinging precariously to high cliff walls, and a cascading stream tumbling past immense mullock heaps which tell of past glory days, when the town contained some of the richest gold mines in Victoria, and its population soured into the thousands. The book includes the story of Walhalla - from Stringers Creek shanty town to modern day tourist favourite; the history of the Moe to Walhalla narrow gauge railway, one of Victoria's most ambitious engineering feats, from construction right through to closure of the line in 1954, with fascinating memories from railwaymen who worked the line. A look at the various Walhalla railway preservation attempts - from the efforts of Clement Meadmore and Bill Ferris during the 1950s to the Ron Kain era of the 1960s and 1970s, and finally the great success story that is the Walhalla Goldfields Railway. Included are a magnificent array of black & white and colour images of Walhalla and its railway, many never before seen, including the outstanding photography of William Lee, Wilf Henty, Peter Ralph and many others, and an illustrated guide to the remains of the Walhalla railway. It was a railway of scenic splendour, famous for its towering wooden bridges, notoriously steep grades, Hereford cattle and K class steam locomotives. This lavishly illustrated publication includes over 100 colour and B&W photographs, and tells the story of the railway through the memories of Cudgewa railway enginemen, station masters, bridge gangers, cattle drovers and local residents. Crucial aspects of the line's history are also covered, including 'Tallangatta - The Town that Moved', the Bonegilla Migrant Reception Centre, the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme, and harrowing accounts of the two 1964 runaway train wrecks. The Victorian Railways of old was far more than just a transport business - it was a great railway family, where employees were treated as valued members of the organisation. Life on the Victorian Railways explores a bygone era, through the recollections and humorous stories of a selection of railwaymen who performed a variety of roles, such as Lad Labourer, Junior Clerk, Engine Cleaner, Steam Fitter, Train Guard, Passenger Train Conductor, Ticket Examiner, Station Master, Train Controller and District Superintendent. From the grimy North Melbourne Locomotive Depot to the glamorous Southern Aurora express train, dedicated railwaymen and women across the state carried out their often unseen duties, and contributed to the day-to-day operations of the grand, traditional old 'VR' - that proud institution now consigned to the pages of history. Over the last thirty years, corporate fortunes have been made and lost more dramatically than ever before. The most valuable businesses were invented in college dorms and shabby garages, and didn't even generate revenues let alone profits in their early years. Trillion dollar industries were created right under the noses of then market leaders, who had almost no idea what was happening. Freshman became billionaires faster than their elders could ask the way to the executive suite. Meanwhile, the world has witnessed the greatest financial crisis in a century, and three quarters of a billion people are now saddled with some of the largest national debts the world has ever seen. With leading companies armed with the most sophisticated financial analytics ever developed, and supported by a new breed of executive coach in the form of management consultants, how could this ever have happened? If the free market was really so effective, how could so much relative value be created or destroyed so rapidly? And if companies were really focussed on shareholders' long term interests, how could global leaders miss such big opportunities or squander their inheritances so rapidly? This book tackles these questions head on and sets out new ways to identify opportunity and assess risk. Would you spot the $100bn hiding in your garage? Would you know if your company had the supremacy gene? Is there an inflexion point hiding around the corner which will mean that your low risk, short term strategy will turn your organisation to financial dust in under a decade? And if you have figured out how you can transform your organisation, who is going to fight hardest to stop you unlocking its hidden value? "Whether in Government or business, the daily challenge is how to deal with the short term crisis whilst balancing long term needs. Nigel Lake provides a clear framework to address this challenge whilst also detailing the need to change to survive on any journey. Change involves risk, however it also may be the very reason that you remain in your job. "A must for any manager, leader or Minister - compelling reading." The Hon. Mike Baird MP, Premier of New South Wales "Absolutely riveting!" Gerry Grove-White, Director, Flibe Energy and previously COO, Tata Power "...well written...worthwhile messages...useful historical perspectives...entertaining anecdotes!" Professor Jorgen Randers, Co-author of international best sellers "The Limits to Growth", "Beyond the Limits" and "2052"

An exposĂŠ of contemporary life seen from the perspective of an eleven-year-old boy. Shaun, a country boy, is orphaned after a bushfire and must now live in the city where he meets many lonely, mixedup residents. Can his world of benign nature and theirs of dispirited culture, be reconciled? It is a story of polarities: the country and the city; nature and culture; the material and the digital; the spirit and the flesh; lost faith and renewed hope.

In 2004 the author found a little diary of 386 pages written by a 62-year-old man in a nursing home. This story is inspired by that diary. E=mc2? Jack Smythe thinks Einstein is wrong and he has a theory to prove it. But he's no physicist. Instead, he's been a homeless kid, a palmreader, a cosmic theorist, a father of two (who probably aren't his) and a devoted companion to his sister Kitty who has her own demons. But now at 62, he wakes after an operation to find he's been placed at Eden, a below-average nursing home. Here he is confronted by Nurse Stinson, Collier the Hun, Pistol Pete, Skeleton Joe, Dooley the publican, Jim the ex-politician and Jim's rebel granddaughter, among others. He wants nothing to do with any of them. Instead, with wry wit Jack begins a story about Kitty starting with the day they ran away from home for good. It seems Jack is always running away and ultimately there's a daring escape at Eden. But unknown to Jack, it's the "muddle of geriatrics" at Eden that eventually put meaning in his life.

A rusted wok; a rooster's feather; a battered cricket bat; World War II medals; a Vietnam Moratorium badge; a ring. Why are these things so precious to Beth? The war in Afghanistan is entering its eighth year. Beth has been living in her father's house, looking after him, waiting for him to die. And now the wretched old man is finally dead and she must clear out the contents of the house ready for sale... but Beth is a hoarder. Parting with anything at all is agony for her. For Martha, a professional clutter buster and ruthless neat freak, throwing things out is easy - some say, too easy. As the two women begin to trawl through the mountains of 'stuff' that have built up over the years, gradually the layers of both their lives are peeled back. In My Father's House is about passion, obsession and imagination. It is about families - their secrets, lies and loves. It explores the ways in which war damages people's lives and what it really means to be brave. How do we come to terms with the past, let go and move on?

This is a true story of three generations of the Zinoffsky and Parret family caught in the events of the first half of the 20th Century's history and politics. It touches on the Russian Revolution in Moscow, World War II, displacement and being refugees. As well it portrays this Estonian family as immigrants and what life was like in innocent Australia during the 1950s and 1960s. Primarily told through the eyes of a young girl, of the third generation, and the collective memory of the family, sometimes recorded in diaries, it is a story which includes some lighter even humorous aspects of the lives of those who with foresight and perseverance managed to refugee to freedom in the west and escape to a safe life. Subsequent waves of immigrants and refugees to Australia make this a current occurrence still, although now in very different circumstances.

In The Secret Love Letters: A Family History, the author delves into the history of her Spanish ancestors, the onceillustrious San Miguels, and uncovers the forbidden love affair that tore the family apart. Fay Johnston told her daughter of a collection of letters she had kept hidden away for over 60 years, promising to show them to her when the time was right. It was only after her mother died that Dolores found the letters, concealed beneath a large piece of wood deep within a storage cupboard. Through endless research and close analysis, Dolores pieced together nearly a hundred letters, newspaper ads, doctors' notes, and postcards to unravel the story of her parents' romance, kept secret for over two decades. Dolores San Miguel, acclaimed author of The Ballroom: The Melbourne Punk and Post-punk Scene delivers a luminous, tightly woven account that places her own family saga in the wider context of early European immigration to Australia, as well as offering a fascinating glimpse into Melbourne life in the lead-up to World War 2.

Kevin Brophy begins this selection of his poetry, tracing back to the early 1980s, with a book-length section of new poems, the fruit of the past five years of writing. His five previous poetry volumes are all represented with substantial selections - reviewed widely, those books are now out of print. The new work comes from a poet who has long made rich, intimate, lyrical and disturbing poetry about Melbourne's inner-northern urban streets and backyards, about memory and family, and more lately about the seemingly natural surrealism of the mind. The domain is home to psychology, and perhaps philosophy. But the tracking of thought in Brophy's poems is continually grounded in the senses, and he is alert to the uniqueness of ordinary human occasions. He is a master of tonality and nuance.

Xn might be the shortest poem possible between two letters, a mathematical metaphor for poetry, shorthand for a process that takes something specific and transforms it into something more intensely itself. Jenkins' second collection begins pre-big bang, and proceeds, democratically investigating life. Is she mining the everyday for the sake of linguistic high jinks, or hijacking language to celebrate where we're at? Here we find a penchant for the absurd, a playful elucidation of everything from the concept of zero to the history of burnt toast, a subversion of historical methods, road trips and set theory, butter and death. Wry and lucid, wide-ranging and witty, this is exactly what you need to read.

Spineless Wonders
Here are tales of service station hold-ups, random violence in elevators, shark attacks and road fatalities. Complete narratives, with well-drawn characters and plotlines all in 200 words or less. There are short pieces about supermarkets, computers and dogfights - all packed with emotional punch. Some describe quiet but no less significant moments: a child colouring in, a seagull stealing a chip. Some show us the magic of quotidian life - on trains, buses and in backyard gardens and nature strips. We gave them a single blank square of paper to fill. They flashed it with political satire, memorable lines, mordant observations, flights of fancy and heartbreaking descriptions.

It's not everyone's idea of a honeymoon - a 12000 mile flight from Scotland to Australia in a single engine, canvas covered plane. Even less idyllic if the pilot has only 44 hours flying experience and the navigator learned her job via a do-it-yourself course. But George & Kathy Wright from Glasgow did it - eventually. It took four months of trepidation and resourcefulness, fear and frustration, and delight and innocent blundering through the formalities of four continents. Refuelling in mid-air... landing at secret military airfields... trailed by police.... the plane looted... caught up in the sensitivities of politics.... marital tensions. Kathy Wright who, in 1968 was 24, kept a frank and meticulous diary. It is an absorbing, amusing and exciting story of the epic journey across the world of two young and very na誰ve people.

Set in Sussex in the United Kingdom in the early part of the twenty-first century, this novel follows the often difficult life of Shane Willing. Shane was born, it seems, under a bad sign. From an early age, he acquires a reputation of one who is beset by misfortune. Things just don't seem to go Shane's way - and as we examine his life as a young policeman in his native village of Wilchester, we watch on, appalled, as the Fates tease and torment him: cruelly tempting him with worldly delights - only to whisk them away again the moment his poor, defenseless heart is opened and exposed. Shane's story provides us with a poignant reminder that men, too, can be grievously vulnerable in matters of the heart. Shane has an identical twin brother, Barry. Why is it that Barry's life is not dogged by the same crippling misfortune as his twin's? But then, perhaps it is... Dual Carriageway is a study of the unique relationships between twins - the implicit awareness, the shared chemistry and...the peculiar differences. But it is also a story of self-discovery; a tale of triumph over the mystical forces which would, seemingly, intervene to promote chaos and hazard. And in that, the novel brings a refreshing affirmation of the power of self. John Considine is a writer with a sharp eye - and an even sharper mind. He gives us a front row seat amid the turmoil of mounting disasters until finally, a gentle and soothing light appears on the horizon. Poor Shane. Is his future to be determined by the Agents of Fortune? Or by his duplicate DNA? Is the life of one clone mirrored by its effigy? Or can a pathway of self-determination be found - even for the hapless and the hopeless?

"Guilt is an emotion for which I have no time. It's exhausting, stops you from having any fun, and is the equivalent of one of those T-shirts that says 'I went to [insert adventure] and all I got was this lousy T-shirt'." In recovery mode after a messy divorce from a non-Muslim man, Lara Abdel-Aziz is estranged from her family and out of touch with her best friend Samira. Making ends meet by working in a fast food shop in Sydney, she also sings at a local bar, enjoying the anonymity of a favourite past-time. Local guitar player Leo is good company, but her only other interactions are with her mostly-absent flatmate Icky, and new age store owner Angela, who wants Lara to work for her and get in touch with her higher self. Lara is comfortably on autopilot until a near-assault at work forces her into counselling and she must start to unpack the events of her life and make peace with the past. Meanwhile, an unexpected encounter with Hakeem, the strict religious friend once in love with Samira, leads to an unlikely connection. As an attraction develops between them, they both begin to repair their broken lives. This is How You Get Better is the sequel to Courting Samira. Courting Samira ISBN

"So I was turned off a suitor when I saw his shoes. Despite the Arab warrior preference, I didn't really care about looks. But I had a general rule: if the suitor came in wearing shoes with tassels, a leather jacket circa 1982, and/or a moustache, the doorknock appeal would fail from the outset. A girl has to have some standards, right?" It may be the 21st century, but who says courtship is obsolete? Coming from a (not-quite- traditional) Muslim family, 27-year-old Samira Abdel-Aziz knows all about it. But as an assistant at Bridal Bazaar magazine, she's pretty sick of all things wedding-related. Surely there's more to life than suitors and marriage? Then Samira unwittingly becomes wedding gofer for her cousin/nemesis Zahra and her life begins to resemble a Spanish soap opera - minus the skimpy clothing and the bitch-slaps. This story is a light-hearted but honest peek into the life of a young, single Muslim woman living in Sydney - the joys of a blossoming romance (all very proper), the courtship rituals (so Jane Austen), the struggle with career and, of course, Arab Guilt.

Aly has experience in writing for children, but when it comes to the much anticipated When I Left, Aly has out-done herself. The book is written for children who have lost someone special in their life. Aly relates to children who are struggling with the loss of a close friend or family member by dedicating the book to her Nana, who passed away when she was five. By reliving her methods of coping with this loss and remembering the beautiful spirit of her Nana, Aly is able to comfortably handle this difficult subject matter in a way that children can understand. She hopes this upcoming book which contains beautiful illustrations, by Marilyn Walsh (mother-in-law), can help children dealing with loss, feel that their loved one is watching over them and keeping them safe and on the right path. Experience the rainbows, moon beams, and hugs that make this book a one-of-a-kind experience for children.

Doreen Schwegler has been a practicing naturopath since 1989 specialising in fertility management, Bowen Therapy and weight management. She is a contributor to 'Smart Business Builders: Smart People-Smart Business', available on Amazon, and has authored various articles in the health media. A Guide towards Happiness, Healthy Ageing and Great Sex is an easy to read, one-stop resource on why so many people in modern society are unhappy, unhealthy and sexually disappointed. It not only explains why so many of us are suffering but provides accessible and practical information on how to turn our lives around. The use of complementary medicine is becoming more widespread. There is a greater awareness in society of the advantages of a wholesome diet, a healthy lifestyle and the positives of minimising the use of chemicals and drugs where possible. However, there is also a vast amount of conflicting information of varied quality and repute. For most people, even the experienced professional, this plethora of information can cause confusion and unnecessary angst. This guide brings together the knowledge and expertise of the author as a naturopath, scientist, researcher and avid reader into a 'user friendly' reference for health professionals and all people interested in their own health and wellbeing. It provides information on the intricacies and interplay of genetics, lifestyle, emotions and environmental factors, making this book a valuable resource for both natural therapists and people interested in understanding their own health issues and those of their loved ones. The author aims to stimulate the reader to explore her suggestions for better health, to undertake further reading, and to make well-informed judgments as to how they can best optimise health outcomes.

I Love You Now Until Forever is written from the heart, motivated by the loss Blake and his family experienced and what he found to be a lack of appropriate children's literature to help them grieve. It is an adaptation of When I Left by Aly Walsh, whose children were in the same classes as Blake's children at primary school. The idea was hatched in the schoolyard by Aly, keen for Blake to go away and write a book that was appropriate for the loss of someone special to cancer. From borrowed beginnings the book took on a creative life of its own, and has been designed as a kind of scrapbook for anyone, be they here or sadly lost, to give to a child as a treasure trove of memories, personal photos and positive messages. Blake has designed the book using elements that his wife loved, like butterflies, frangipanis, antique gold frames, and of course diamonds Additionally, the dandelion blowing in the wind has special significance, illustrating the experience of loss and rebirth. Blake has written a book that he and his wife would have loved to create for each of their children, to read and keep forever. He can do it now, and so can anyone else, immortalising treasured memories forever. Blake's wish is that anyone, and especially those people who are on a personal journey of their own, can use this book to provide comfort, joy and confidence to the children dearest to their hearts.

Jonathon's Thongs is the fun-filled story of a small boy who discovers something really mesmerizing about a pair of thongs. Simon loves thongs (Australian for flip-flops or jandals in New Zealand!), but a whole world of strange and interesting shoes awaits his exploration. "Simon liked how Jonathon's thongs sing 'thwick thwack, thwick thwack', when he runs along" Through a number of comical encounters with a range of footwear Simon learns about Tilly's tap shoes, Sally's slippers and Benjamin's shiny runners, each examined by Simon to see how they compare with Jonathon's thongs. "Katy has clogs. They clank and chatter As Katy clatters Along the street to home." At the end, Simon returns home to find a surprise next to his bed that he just had not expected and it was "just the thing". Jonathon's Thongs has a great sing-song rhythm and Esther Erlich's illustrations are a quirky delight of movement and colour. The book is suitable for all pre-schoolers, who will quickly learn the pleasure it brings to : 'thwick thwack, thwick thwack,' when they run along.

Zits, Tits and Boys' Bits: the teenage boy's guide to avoiding life's little &#%!@-ups is a short, sharp and humorous source of information for the teenage boy on life's big mysteries - girls, love, sex, school, drinking, friendship and the role of family. The authors, between them parents of seven children, have compiled answers to many of the questions they've received over the years from their own children and added sage advice on topics they wish they'd covered in more detail, not all of which are entirely suitable for dinner table conversation....... Are you a teenager who wants to know the answers to such questions as: "Do rangas have red pubes?" "What's the go with nipple hair?" "Why does the teacher pick on me when I sit up the back?" "What the #%^* does she mean by she just wants to be friends?" Are you a parent who wants to open up communication with their child or finds it hard to talk frankly about such things such as stiffies, boobs, drinking and boy grunting? Are you still bewildered as to why your partner still behaves the way he does? If so, this is the book for you. Tits, Zits and Boys' Bits will de-mystify the age old clichĂŠs of 'Treat girls right', 'Be a man', 'Grow some balls', 'You'll be right' and hopefully provide the odd tip on to what it means to be a good friend, good boyfriend, and in time a good lover in every sense of the word. All boys have enormous potential to grow into good men. This book will give them a head start. Warning: Contains teen/adult themes. 15 years and over recommended. Ka-Lunk! is a book for both children and parents that can help make the little "oops" in life seem a lot more bearable. The book was inspired by Gloria's children and her understanding of their developmental progress as they stumbled their way through early childhood. Gloria is confident her first published work will help new parents and caregivers, as she knows first-hand how the bumps and bruises children seem to accumulate can be a source of stress. The children's book goes on to include developmental guidelines and play ideas for caregivers and parents, so the whole family can use the book as a source of knowledge, inspiration, and a way to keep-on-moving even after a few falls. Gloria, a former preschool teacher, who is currently working as an OT as she holds a Master's degree in Occupational therapy, is familiar with the bumps and stumbles children experience as they develop, thanks to her work and family experiences. These stumbles, which Gloria has aptly named "Ka-Lunk" moments, can often seem traumatic for first time parents who worry about the well-being of their child as they clumsily learn about the world around them. The book "Ka-Lunk!" shows the resilience of a child as they continue progressing forward. It also includes the relatives along the way that can provide support to a maturing child. Gloria has combined her experience as a mother and her knowledge and expertise of working with children to craft this rhyming tale perfect for ages five and under.

Kids say the darndest things! Author Aly Walsh got the idea for this book when her four-year-old son told her, "Mum, all you say is blah blah blah". My Mum Says "Blah Blah Blah" is the author's light-hearted and fun story of a typical day raising a little boy or girl in today's world, where parents are often tuned out by their kids who find much more interesting things to listen to than our "Blah Blah Blah". If you've ever felt that what you're telling your children is falling on deaf ears, this is the book for you and your child to read together. You'll not only get vindication that you are not alone, but you'll also get some chuckles along the way. Children aged three to seven will especially enjoy this cleverly illustrated book.

Congo Rock is the fun, interactive, rhyming story of a rock 'n' roll gorilla and his band of chimpanzees. Each night, the animals in the Congo wake to the sound of the rock 'n' roll band: 'BOOM DIDDY, BOOM DIDDY, BOOM DIDDY, BOOM!' The animals all join in, dancing and stamping their feet. They dance all night to the rock 'n' roll beat. When the sun comes up, the animals hang up their dancing shoes. They head for their beds, where they can sleep the day away until night falls. Then they can, once again, boogie the night away to the sounds of the rock 'n' roll gorilla and his wonderful band of chimpanzees. This book is particularly suitable for younger children in the pre-school and lower primary years. They will love reading along to Congo Rock and they can boogie with the animals too!
