The Disruptive Paradigm
I don’t know if Amazon will be here next week, the month after or next year; I do know we have embarked on our key title drive for Christmas 2017 and those books were launched by the publishers as far back as Q3 – 2016. And I know we will have very strong support for these well developed titles. One such title is Heartwood, where we have used it as one of our anchor titles at both LE Conference as well as last weekend at the ABA Trade Show – this time with the publisher David Tenenbaum; and we universally adopted it as our cover for this month’s new title order form. The new title order forms cost us about $30,000 to $35,000 per year plus the oncost of developing them in house which is potentially another $20,000 per annum. And then they are rolled out via 10 field sales people as well as online via 'issuu', then special sub plots back to key buying groups as well as readership overseas. I write a monthly sales narrative back to the sales people and our internal staff who are part of the constant urging for the books and authors. It is like publishing a book every month. Huge and costly. If you add the conferencing on top of this with all costs you very quickly get to a yearly spend of close to $100,000. It is when I add these numbers up that I would love to have a Government grant or be a University Press to give us some financial relief; such is the nature of being Independent – stump up or shut up. Back to the order form cycle - as a business it is our way of leading the content stream into the battle for shelf space and then to garner the attention of the time poor retail outlets. Time poor – who is not? Then if you get any of the metadata wrong – hell to pay! And it happens. As I write this we are still having publishers add to the list for this month as late as one hour ago – and yes their books will be squeezed into the offering. This time next week all those new titles will have been pumped into the metadata that is accessed from our FTP site as well as being pushed to those who have learnt to take multiple feeds to their advantage.
even be on sale at the Parliament House Bookshop in Canberra. We are going to push ahead with a POD hardback version as well (which we will not stock, leaving supply to LS and the overseas wholesalers). The same Hardback idea will be used for Jane & Me where we think consumers globally will like a cased version.
We have started an Instagram for the company and are going to beef up our facebook postings. Please also read the weekly / fortnightly promulgation as these are rich with the latest media information we can apprise you with. We are going to include a wider range of outlets to receive the promulgations; businesses like the APA, Reading Hour, The Wheeler Centre, SPN and so on with our urgent news updates. Books and books. We received our sample copy of The Prince & The Assassin and the news that we can bring the release date forward by one month from August to July – probably very good for us as consumers will be engaged by the media via SMH / The Age, etc and the paid catalogue placement for the book. It has turned out impeccably even to the point where the actual Crown of the time was located and the colour of the cloth insert to that Crown is matching. It will
We are pushing ahead with the International business (Dennis Jones International) – our sales people, agents and accomplices will carry information related to foreign lists where no stocking distributors exist in Australia, or even New Zealand. The books will be stocked by Gardners UK and available on the twice a week air freight scheme and for the next 12 months on a surcharge free basis. Some of these lists will also carry incentive discounts. It is what is behind our promotion of Legend Press. Zed Books will be the next list where we will be given all of the typical information stock holding business would be given, except we are not holding stock. I hope it is beneficial and does rely on the commercial nature of the list involved. This initiative is being coupled with Gardners International. Oddspot I was at Maroochydore Airport recently and almost made an errant move; sitting awaiting the next flight was someone who I was certain was Mike Shatzkin – I started to walk up to him to renew acquaintance when I noticed his hair was a bit short and his clothes were not as flamboyant in colour so I stepped aside. Five minutes later Lea came up and asked have you seen Geoffrey Rush? – what a foolish mistake I almost committed by mistaking him for Shatzkin! Anyway what a magnificent Australian – we sat behind him on the flight and I so wanted to ask him about playing the role of Peter Sellers! Next time. Oddspot plural One of our authors was amazed to have a close friend buy an autographed edition of her book and then the question to the publisher of how did the online vendor have autographed copies when no such signings occurred. Quite simple as we had taken a return from an event where the author had signed her stock, sold a few and then we took the return and put those books back into stock awaiting the next order. – Never happened to us before. The book was Flame Tip. Finally we had a strong bookseller support to our ABA Trade Show display and thanks to Nigel & David who assisted. Also have to say the presentations of James Daunt, John Mutter and Peter Fitzsimons were well worth paying the money to hear, and the Shortlisting for Waiting and meeting Philip Salom (Puncher & Wattman). Heartwood challenges the entrenched view that when it comes to forests, one is either a conservationist or a profiteer. Forest scientist Rowan Reid draws on over twenty years of experience and study to offer a third way: where growing trees for profit can have a positive environmental impact. He challenges the ideological poles that dominate the debate and offers a scientific view on how anyone with the necessary land and time can grow their own trees and profit from them while improving the soil, water and ecosystem. Rowan also shares the personal story and family history that lead him to his revolutionary new approach. He shares his passion for native trees and provides the practical information that readers will need to understand and grow trees of their own. Author Information Rowan Reid (B.For.Sci. & M.For.Sci.) is a forester amongst farmers. His passion for trees began as a child in the coastal eucalypt forests of southern Victoria and has led to a life teaching and working with farmers around the world. Rowan won the 2001 Australian Eureka Prize for Excellence in Environmental Education for his farmer course (The Australian Master TreeGrower), which he continues to deliver around Australia and internationally (Africa, Timor Leste, Indonesia etc.). A Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne for 20 years, Rowan continues his academic teaching and research as a Senior Fellow of the university and the managing director of the Australian Agroforestry Foundation (a not-for-profit organisation). Since the publication of Agroforestry in Australia and New Zealand (1985), Rowan has written or co-authored eight other books and is an internationally recognised leader in farmer education and extension. Most importantly, Rowan is also a farmer and tree grower in his own right, with a family farm in the Otway Ranges of southern Victoria and a founder of one of Australia’s most successful Landcare groups, the Otway Agroforestry Network. More than 10,000 visitors have toured his Bambra Agroforestry Farm, which is set up as a 42-hectare outdoor classroom for farmers, scientists, students and tree lovers, and a living laboratory for his own learning.

Out of the Woods is a book to help people understand and overcome depression and anxiety. It is the author's own story told entirely through 700 beautifully hand drawn watercolor illustrations. It is an immensely practical guide for sufferers, their loved ones, and professionals working in the area too. The book's graphic memoir format blends a compelling personal story with the latest medical research ‐ ideal for people who are in the depths of depression and struggling to read and take on board information. The book doesn't pretend there is a quick way out of these illnesses and instead encourages people to make small steps to slowly build their own lasting recoveries. This is an inspiring story that will give vital information and hope to many people.

A low risk investment you can virtually buy and forget as with Starbucks when it listed: $1,000 invested then is now worth $201,901.18-a return of 202 times your money Yet. .. such profits are typical of hot growth companies. But how can you spot the next Starbucks, Whole Foods, Walmart, or McDonalds from the hundreds of turkeys that go public every year? And how can you avoid companies touted as the "Next Starbucks" or the "Next Google" which crash and burn soon after they hit one of the big stock exchanges? There's a science to the "Next Big Thing" strategy, and Mark Tier understands it. He shows you that explosive brands like Starbucks, Whole Foods, McDonald's, and Walmart didn't become successful by accident. Through in-depth and accessible case studies, Tier pulls back the curtain on the early Key Performance Indicators that each of these major companies showed even in their earliest stages. Grasp these foundations of success and you, too, will be able to spot the next Starbucks. Tier even shows how you, as an "average-investor-in-the-street," can find such a hot growth stock-without leaving the comfort of your own home. You'll also discover- Two ways you could spot the next Starbucks by "just walking around" - Three simple indicators you can use to cross the "Next Turkey" off your list - Four completely different ways to profit from the next hot growth stock-or the last one - How to weed out the dross by "reading between the lines" of a company's annual report-even if the last thing you want to do is take Accounting 101 ! What's more, identifying the "ingredients" essential for a small business to become a big one becomes a "recipe" for starting a successful business of your own. So rather than investing in the next Starbucks, you could decide to create it yourself! Author Information Mark Tier, an Australian writer and business man based in Hong Kong, was founder of the investment newsletter World Money Analyst, which he published and edited until 1991, he is also the author of Understanding Inflation, an Australian bestseller in 197 4, The Nature of Market Cycles, and How To Get A Second Passport. His articles on investing and other themes have appeared in Time, The Australian, The South China Morning Post, and elsewhere. Before writing The Winning Investment Habits of Warren Buffett & George Soros, he adopted the habits himself, sold all his business interests and now lives primarily from the returns on his investments. Warren Buffett and George Soros both started with nothing‐and made billion‐dollar fortunes solely by investing. But their investment strategies are so widely divergent, what could they possibly have in common? As Mark Tier demonstrates in this insightful book, the secrets that made Buffett and Soros the world's richest investors are the same mental habits and strategies they both practice religiously. However, these are mental habits and strategies that fly in the face of Wall Street's conventional mindset. For example: ‐ Buffett and Soros do not diversify. When they buy, they always buy as much as they can. ‐ They're not focused on the profits they expect to make. Going in, they're not investing for the money at all. ‐ They don't believe that big profits involve big risks. In fact, they're far more focused on not losing money than making it. ‐ Wall Street research reports? They never read them. They're not interested in what other people think. Indeed, Buffett says he only reads analyst reports when he needs a laugh. In The Winning Investment Habits of Warren Buffett & George Soros you can discover how the mental habits that guided your last investment decision stack up against those of the world's richest investors. Then learn exactly how you can apply their wealth‐building secrets to transform your own investment results .

'The true story of Horrie the Wog‐Dog who was adopted by the Australian Signal Platoon of the M/G Battalion, in spite of all rules against keeping pets, and how Horrie not only won his stripes as a valuable addition to the group but had the further distinction of being smuggled into Australia on their return. The Wog‐Dog was sneaked into Greece, went through the evacuation, carried messages as well as proving a dependable warning against air attacks. He went to Syria and Palestine, never learning to tolerate Arabs ‐ he suffered cold and sickness, he fell in love with Ishmi, he was bombed off his ship and he never once was found during all necessary cover‐up travelling. A story for all dog lovers, in spite of heavy Australian slang and style, of a dinkum Aussie who was kept, protected and loved by dinkum Aussies. Sentimentality over canines seldom misses fire.' ‐ Kirkus Review (USA)

The murder of a 10‐year‐old boy, strangled with the lead of his dog, shocks the quiet town of Victoria's Queenscliff to its core. The local senior constable, Chris Blackie and his deputy Anthea Merritt, expect the murder investigation to be handled by Geelong‐based detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit. But they're blind‐sided by the interest that personnel from the secret military training base on Swan Island take in the case, strongly suspecting that the Detective Inspector may be taking direction from them. Consigned to the edges of the investigation and fearing an imminent wrongful conviction, Chris and Anthea defy their superiors to follow their own lines of enquiry ‐ at great personal risk. A worthy addition to Dorothy Johnston's sea‐change mystery series, 'The Swan Island Connection' once again brings Queenscliff to life with intrigue and exacting description. DOROTHY JOHNSTON is the author of eleven mystery and literary novels, including a quartet of mysteries set in Canberra. The first of these, 'The Trojan Dog', was joint winner ACT Book of the Year, and runner-up in the inaugural Davitt Award. The Age gave it their ‘Best of 2000’ in the crime section. Two of Johnston’s literary novels, 'One for the Master' and 'Ruth', have been shortlisted for the Miles Franklin award. She has published many short stories in journals and anthologies, along with essays in Australia’s major newspapers and fiction reviews for Fairfax Press. Dorothy is also involved in the writing community in Victoria. She is on the committee of the Barwon Heads Arts Council, where she has organised gatherings such as a one-day ‘Meet the Authors’ event. She has also run writing workshops with great success as part of the Barwon Estuary Project, and is now developing a series of 'River Haiku' as part of new signage along the Barwon estuary.

A young camel disappears from its trainers paddock and the coat of a murdered women is found abandoned in the sand dunes. These seemingly unrelated events are a far cry from the regular police duties of Constable Chris Blackie and his rookie recruit from Melbourne, Anthea Merritt, in the small seaside town of Queenscliff. Little by little and with a burgeoning sense of menace, these two unlikely detectives carefully navigate the eclectic, often eccentric personalities of the town, as well as the disdain of law enforcement colleagues further afield, to uncover the unsettling truth. Described as a 'sea‐change mystery' Through a Camel's Eye deftly juxtaposes the idyllic surroundings of a coastal Victorian town with the gravity of murder.

Why are women fatter than ever before and what can we do about it? Today there are 200 million more obese women than men. Young women are also getting fatter faster than previous generations. Yet some women are embracing obesity as a means of livelihood and validation while others are apologists for obesity, arguing that 'big is beautiful.' In this passionate polemic, Helen Verlander argues that feminism has lost its way in asserting that our main concern about obesity should revolve around self-esteem. She argues that obesity presents a significant threat to the health of women and that encouraging us to accept dangerous levels of body fat as the new normal is really the counsel of delusion and despair. Fat is a Feminine Issue looks at the drivers of pandemic obesity and suggests how we can stop being its victims. Helen Verlander argues that we need to take back our personal power by addressing the risky habits that are making us fat, unhealthy and headed for disability in old age or premature death. Yet 'diet' need not be a dirty word. Fat is a Feminine Issue tells you the best diets for losing weight and how to keep it off. Filled with practical advice and encouragement, Fat is a Feminine Issue, is a wake-up call for women everywhere who are overweight or obese.

James is our most mundane villain. His victim is Bruce, our typical Aussie, who bleeds from the hip pocket because of James' actions. Game of Mates tells a tale of economic theft across major sectors of Australia's economy, showing how James and his group of well‐connected Mates siphon off billions from the economy to line their own pockets. In property, mining, transport, banking, superannuation, and many more sectors, James and his Mates cooperate to steal huge chunks of the economic pie for themselves. If you want to know how much this costs the nation, how it is done, and what we can do about it, Game of Mates is the book for you. This book will open your eyes to how Australia really works. So communication must be easy, right? Wrong. We're constantly competing with the internet, social media, email, lack of time and the general noise of life. Are our messages being heard and understood? Do we stop and really listen to others? When was the last time you practised and improved your communication skills? How you communicate in presentations, meetings, social occasions, networking or when meeting people for the first time can influence your outcomes dramatically. I GET YOU helps you to transform your business and personal communications so your messages are clear and meaningful. Use its strategies to become more influential, develop stronger relationships and change your destination. Experienced speaker and mentor, Warren Tate, takes you on a journey of continued development with every chapter. He makes complex, scientific‐based principles simple to understand, so you can clarify your message. He also reminds us that communication is two‐way. Consider the listener as well as your message. Warren shows how successful face‐to‐face communication can be learned and mastered.

Ireland, early 1800s. The Napoleonic Wars have ended, leaving an already disjointed country in peril. Maurice O'Dwyer, a young Irishman, considers the lifeless body of an English tithe‐collector slain under a rain‐filled sky. From that moment it seems his fate is sealed: he and his young simpleton brother, Padraig, are exiled to Australia, An Astráil, to the convict‐filled island of Van Diemen's Land ‐ leaving behind his love, his land, and his liberty. However, in the bush Maurice discovers that there are allies in the most unlikely of places. What the critics said "With the passion of an activist and the ear of a poet, John Tully constructs his novel out of the differing perspectives of the colonial project, weaving Irish lives and English lives, black experiences and white experiences into a dense tapestry of oppression and the many little resistances it fostered. This is an account of settlement in all its complexity, a multilayered book written with a deep sympathy for ordinary people coping with the collision of very different worlds. It's a text built from parallels, echoes and resonances, a much‐needed excavation of a past that still haunts us." ‐ Jeff Sparrow, co‐author of Radical Melbourne: A Secret History
Author Information John A. Tully is descended from English and Irish forebears. A Tasmanian expatriate, a socialist and an active trade unionist, he worked as a rigger in construction and heavy industry for many years. He currently lectures in Politics and History at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. He is the author of six published books, a number of articles, book reviews and short stories. His previous book, Dark Clouds on the Mountain, also set in Tasmania, was published by Hybrid Publishers in 2010.

This is the world's first 'Enseeklopedia' ‐ a treasure trove of stories, music analysis and rare memorabilia. Moreover, it is a long overdue salute to Australia's Fab Four and their enduring recording catalogue. In this publishing first, renowned Australian authors Christopher Patrick (ABBA: Let The Music Speak) and Graham Simpson (The Judith Durham Story ‐ Colours Of My Life) have joined forces to produce the first‐ever Seekers coffee table book ‐ an in‐depth and highly informative look at the recording history of Australia's first supergroup. Their forensic analysis of every song The Seekers recorded in the 50 years between 1963 and 2013 sits comfortably with peeks behind the scenes, never‐before‐revealed facts, fascinating trivia, and a kaleidoscope of photos and memorabilia... much of it never seen before. With a good tour guide, you see so much more when you know what it is you're looking at; Chris has approached The Seekers' song list from a musician's perspective, undressing every song the group ever recorded to reveal the vocal and instrumental craft at play. Graham has brought to the coffee table his penchant for fascinating Seekers minutiae, and an archive of memorabilia gathered from all over the world over five decades.
Author Information GRAHAM SIMPSON Journalist, author and music historian Graham Simpson spent seven years as editor of Australia’s longest-running weekly music publication, Juke, and several years as a radio commentator. He has worked as Australian correspondent for the Hong Kong Standard and for London’s World Entertainment News Network, was editor of both The Video Age and National Tattler, and has been a metropolitan daily newspaper columnist. Graham spent 19 years as a writer and interviewer with Australia’s leading radio syndication company MCM. Graham has worked with The Seekers since 1993 over which time he has designed and authored souvenir programmes for all of The Seekers tours, and sleeve notes for Seekers albums since 1995. The group’s CD box set Treasure Chest, featuring Graham’s interview with The Seekers, was certified gold. In 1994, Graham’s best-selling authorised biography The Judith Durham Story - Colours Of My Life - was published for the first time. It has been republished five times since. He later edited From The Word Go - Forty Years Of Network Ten Melbourne, by Mal Walden. Phone: 03 9762 9100 | Fax 03 9762 9200 Email: orders@dennisjones.com.au

When I was a child, my father went away. He came home only once a year, in the summer for two weeks. He smelled of the sea, my father. That's because he was... A great pirate. The amazing stories Dad tells of life with his pirate crew fire up his young son's imagination. But then, one year, Dad doesn't return home. Now it's his son's turn to make an amazing journey of his own - to find his father. Soon he will discover a secret beyond anything he has imagined so far.
'When I grow up, I want to be like my dad.'
From the award-winning creators of The Little Eskimo, and the acclaimed author of The Bear with the Sword, What is this Thing Called Love? and The Enemy.
'Sam and His Dad' is a joyful and funny celebration of ordinary family life, the little details that excite a child's imagination and the quirky ways they interpret the adult world. It's a book any child can see themselves in and relate to.
Sam's dad is an artist, and Sam's life is full of creativity, exploration and adventure. Serge Bloch's semi-autobiographical picture book shows us life through Sam's eyes, as he plays with his little brother, goes to the park, visits a farm, goes on holiday - all in the company of the long-suffering but affectionate Dad he loves so much.

If you could accept every challenge, hurdle and setback because you knew the end goal would be worth it. If you could walk your career path with courage, faith and determination. Because you know, without a doubt, that you’re going in the right direction. This is what happens when you find your PURPOSE. And that is exactly what I want for you. As the founder of Collective Hub, a multimedia platform that aims to help people unleash their full potential, Lisa Messenger has turned her passion into a profession – and now she’s on a mission to help millions of people across the world find a career with meaning. Her secret? Instead of settling for a play-it-safe career, she delved deep, thought big and disrupted an entire industry. And all because she discovered the magical feeling, the vital reason, the one powerful sentence that made her work-life worth living. Now, it’s your turn. In this soul-searching book Lisa discusses her own path to purpose, mixed with guidance and interviews from inspiring entrepreneurs and creatives who have followed their ‘why’ to a place of joy and fulfilment. Drawing on her own experiences and ground-breaking research that shows a sense of purpose makes us happier, healthier and even live longer, Lisa guides readers to find the illusive ‘why’ in their lives, so they can reinvigorate their ambition, unleash their inner rebel and make a real impact in the world. Whether you’re a new graduate, a veteran entrepreneur, a parent making a career comeback or an employee tired of working on autopilot, this book is a must-read for anyone who spends their lives making excuses, blaming others or wishing they could have a career that makes a difference. The average person spends over 90,000 hours at work in their lifetime. Do you want to get to the end of your work-life and wonder why?

DO YOU HAVE BIG DREAMS AND BIG PLANS, BUT LACK THE RESOURCES TO PURSUE THEM? DO YOU FIND YOURSELF SAYING "IF ONLY I HAD THE MONEY..." ARE YOU TOO EMBARRASSED TO ASK OTHERS FOR HELP? In her bestselling book Daring & Disruptive and its sequel Life & Love, serial entrepreneur Lisa Messenger shared the business insights gathered in more than a decade of success across multiple industries, including how to identify your true purpose, pinpoint your passions and create the working life most only dream of. But, let's be honest, you need the means to make it all happen. In her latest book, she tackles a topic with a stigma - money! What would you do if money was no object, how can anyone find profit in the impossible and - her personal bugbear - when will "gunnas" stop using lack of money as an excuse for not stepping out of their comfort zone and pursuing their purpose?

DO YOU WANT TO BE DELIRIOUSLY, UNAPOLOGETICALLY HAPPY? IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE CALM, CENTRED AND GROUNDED WHILST LIVING IN A BUSY CITY, RUNNING A BUSINESS AND JUGGLING GROWN-UP RESPONSIBILITIES? In her previous book Daring & Disruptive, serial entrepreneur Lisa Messenger, editor-in-chief of The Collective magazine, shared the business lessons she learned after decades of success in multiple industries, including how to identify your true purpose, pinpoint your passions and visualise the work culture you want to exist in. But, Lisa admits that although her world now seems perfect on paper it hasn't always been this way. In Life & Love, she offers insights into the support system, strategies and relationships, which allow her to cope with the emotional rollercoaster of running a profitable, multi-platform start-up. Blending advice from mentors and role models, with lessons that she's learned the hard way, Lisa's personal journey is proof that no mistake is undoable, no relationship is unfixable and no failure is in vain if you have the right attitude and an abundance of gratitude.

Do you want to unleash your inner entrepreneur? With prompts, exercises and tons of space to brainstorm your creative process, the Daring & Disruptive Playbook (so called, because hopefully it won't feel like work) will guide you through the process of finding your 'why', identifying your purpose and helping you break free of traditional thinking around what a career should look like. Disclaimer: this isn't like any other business planning template you've ever read. Neither will it spoonfeed you the answers. But, by the final page, you'll have created a manifesto of your dream workday, identified the corner of the world you want to change and how you're going to do it.
Do you have big dreams and plans but lack the resources to pursue them? Do you find yourself saying "If only I had the money..."? Are you too embarrassed to ask others for help? This Playbook (so called, because hopefully it won't feel like work) is designed to be read in tandem with Money & Mindfulness: Living in Abundance by Lisa Messenger ‐ an insightful, authentic account of her own money journey and how this serial entrepreneur learned to embrace it for freedom, choice and a platform for good. With exercises, tasks, prompts and plenty of room to unleash your wildest money dreams and ideas, this playbook should be a spring board to help you appreciate your true value, remove blockages, correct wrong mindsets and explore how you can find money the impossible. It will help you crystallise your dreams, map out a life where money is no object, step out of your comfort zone with purpose and help you adopt fresh thinking and creative ideas so you can start living as you want to... in abundance. It's not rude to talk about money any longer, but essential to be open, honest and raw with yourself to live the life you want. Whether you're an entrepreneur, a creative, a parent, a friend, or all of the above, this playbook is a canvas to help you to design a life you love.
Do you want to be ambitious but loving, successful but compassionate, driven but feminine ‐ and most of all, happy? How can you find your purpose ‐ and pursue it with dogged determination ‐ whilst still making time for your friends, family, health, community and the simple pleasures that ground you? It is possible and this Playbook will help you discover it. Because... there are enough hours in the week for everything that matters. With exercises, tasks, prompts and plenty of room to unleash your creativity, the Life & Love Playbook is a spring board to help you dig deep into yourself, identify the areas of your life you love, and work out how you can make constructive changes to the rest of it ‐ with kindness. Whether you're an entrepreneur, a creative, a student, a parent, a friend, or all of the above, consider this your canvas ‐ to help you to design a life you love. This Playbook is certainly not a workbook (because it hopefully won't feel like work) and is designed to be read in tandem with Life & Love by Lisa Messenger, a breathtakingly honest account of the entrepreneur's rollercoaster journey. But here, in the Life & Love Playbook, she turns the spotlight on you!

These phrases add flavour and colour to the Australian language. Australian English is rich with phrases that reflect experiences from the country's history. Aussies have a unique sense of humour, wit, rhymes, flash language, the bizarre experiences of the bush and the beach. So enjoy learning to express yourself like a 'tru‐blu' 'dinky di' Aussie.
When someone thinks of the Australian outback you're greeted with the warmth of red sand underfoot, the low murmur of cicadas in the summer with the belly laugh of the kookaburra. Somewhere a kangaroo absently grazes. You imagine sheep‐shearing sheds, flannel shirts and tanned skin. Aussie Bush Poet is a collection of poems from someone who has long gone walkabout in the bush, not just in dreams but physically and mentally. Mixing vivid and emotional life experiences and stories with the rich and truly unforgettable Australian landscape.

A fascinating look at both famous and not‐so‐famous dogs from Down Under. There's the 'Red Dog', celebrated in a movie in 2011, and 'Bob the Railway Dog', which has a bestselling book written about him. There are assistance animals and guide dogs, war heroes and everyday ones, dogs that save lives and dogs whose lives are saved. All loyal, loving, brave in their ways and with doggy hearts of gold.
A popular combination of Aussie Slang quotes, sayings and full colour photography make up this humorous book. Each photograph depicts and illustrates the accompanying Australian slang saying in a fun and intriguing way. Including some gems like: Raining cats and dogs Like a bandicoot on a burnt bridge All alone like a country dunny Buckly's chance A fly in the ointment and many more...
We use them every day, some of us more than others. They make our conversations colourful and interesting, loud and bright, rich and rare...and sometimes seemingly foreign or incomprehensible to visitors to our shores. They derive from a variety of cultural, historical and ethnic sources, and have adapted and evolved over time into a collection of truly original 'Australian‐isms'. They underline and emphasise the linguistic imprint of who we are as Australians. Some call them 'Strine'. Others, simply slang or idiom. We like to think of them as Australian 'Slang‐uage' ‐ Sayings, Slang and Idiom, the Aussie way. Here are some Aussie sayings to ponder: 'Hello, here's trouble', 'How are you me old china?', "Howzit garn?' 'Saw your light on, thought I'd drop in', 'We have to stop meeting like this'.

CUTE PETS, POOPER‐SHOOTERS, ALIENS... ANOTHER EXTREMELY GROSS AGNATH ADVENTURE! Sam and Jared's lives are in chaos once again. Why would the cute, cuddly, spoilt pets that get to lay around all day and have their food slopped out right in front of them purposely want to get their masters into trouble? Were they evil, stupid... eere they even from this world? "Oooh Crap!! Fluff Butt just pooped right in middle of the lounge‐room rug!... a week's worth of Chunky Beef Tongue with Vegetables, Chicken Liver in Noodles, Lambs Brain in Gravy... all mooshed together, dissolving and rotting in the gastric juices of the dog's stomach. All deposited at once in a huge greeny browny yellowish dump!"... Lick'd, book 3 from the new 9 book 'Freaky' Series is great ‐ even for reluctant readers. Schools also are loving the books because they now find that lots of kids who wouldn't engage in reading previously are hanging out for the next title.

For ages now, Sam and Jared had just thought of Agnath as being the 'slimey green booga of the country', the 'butt‐crack of the world'... that all changed when they found out about the 'Lost Treasure.' But for Sam and Jared to find the lost treasure, first they will have to do the unthinkable; suck‐up to Toffee Thomas... face unspeakable horrors, like the sight of Booga Boris streaking... come face to face with a giant, big, pink, grubby bunny with really bad yellowing 'BO' stains under its furry armpits... and much worse and much more. And just wait for the twist in this one!

An uplifting tale of youthful naivety, friendship, calamity and triumph. When Jake persuades his family to embark on a sailing‐ camping holiday on a Tasmanian island, he is mostly interested in pirate fantasies and his home‐built Optimist sailing dinghy. But he does not plan on events which are to leave him isolated with his brother and sister, and a couple of Kiwi kids. Ultimately, after being forced to dig deep into their personal reserves, the treasures they all gain from their experiences are very different from the ones that Jake set out to find.

A deeply satisfying Ransome‐inspired tale with equal appeal to adult readers as to their children or grandchildren. Underlying a clear environmental message is the conclusion that modern children can still find adventure when their parents are prepared to give them a little trust and freedom. Fin has always been passionate about fishing so when he discovers an illegal net full of undersized fish in Sydney's northern waterways his first reaction is to empty it. The subsequent events turn a joint Kiwi‐Australian family holiday into a rather more complex experience.

A thought‐provoking Ransome‐inspired tale with strong appeal to adventure‐loving readers in the nine to ninety‐nine age bracket. Underlying its clear environmental theme is the conclusion that freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. When a Tasmanian sailing family anchors near an old wrecked hulk in New Zealand's Marlborough Sounds, the kids discover a strangely abandoned campsite nearby, with plates of uneaten food and children's toys still visible under the cockroaches and mould. Their curiosity leads to an investigation which adds a layer of intrigue to their much‐anticipated fun experiences of an unfamiliar foreign land. The Those Kids series is a linked set of stand‐alone books following the camping/sailing adventures of some young Australians and Kiwis as they cope with unexpected challenges whilst learning about contemporary environmental issues along the way.
