The Blandy’s Wine Lodge, in Funchal, is an iconic place to visit on the island of Madeira. Get to know the whole tradition of Madeira wine and the history of the Blandy Family, which reveals over 200 years of the brand managed by the same family for seven generations. Blandy‘s Wine Lodge was purchased by John Blandy in the mid 19th century. Each of the winery floors has its own character, and due to the different temperatures and humidity, the wines have different ageing profiles depending on their location. The family‘s private collection is kept in the cellar, surrounded by thick stone walls. On the guided tour you will have the chance to visit the Blandy family museum where its history on the island is presented chronologically. There is also a tasting in the Max Römer room, decorated with murals by the renowned German artist. You can also access the Frasqueira room is the ‘cathedral’ of Madeira wine, where you can taste wines dating from the 20th century, the rarest and oldest of Blandy‘s collection. A coleção privada da Família é conservada na cave, por entre as grossas paredes de pedra. Na visita guiada tem a possibilidade de visitar o museu da família Blandy, que apresenta cronologicamente a sua história na ilha, fazer provas na sala Max Römer, decorada com murais do famoso artista alemão a que lhe deu nome. Tem ainda acesso à sala Frasqueira, ‘catedral’ do vinho Madeira, onde poderá degustar vinhos datados do século XX, os mais raros e antigos da Blandy’s.
