PRIVATE EQUITY docente: Tim Jenkinson
Apresentação
docente Tim Jenkinson is Europe’s leading authority on private equity and a renowned and prize-winning teacher. He is Professor of Finance at the Saïd Business School (University of Oxford) and is Founder and Director of the Oxford Private Equity Institute. Tim Jenkinson’s research is on private equity, initial public offerings and securitisation.
The total value (equity and debt) of the firms acquired by private equity funds is estimated to have achieved 3.6 trillion dollars between 1970 and 2007. While the majority of these transactions (involving 2.7 trillion dollars) have occurred between 2001 and 2007 and have included companies of all sizes, sectors and locations, in Portugal the industry is still at an underdeveloped stage. However, the recent crisis in Portugal, imposes severe funding constraints for the typical Portuguese, family owned, small and medium enterprises. Recent developments on state-owned venture capital funds and the emergence of new private equity firms will very likely encourage the expansion of the Private Equity industry in Portugal.
He has written widely on finance and economics and his work has been published in leading journals including the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Corporate Finance, Economic Journal and the European Economic Review. He is also a chairman of the economic consulting firm Oxford Economic Research Associates (Oxera), director of the UK-listed investment fund PSource Structured Debt, and an academic advisor to KPMG’s Global Valuation Institute. In 2007, Tim Jenkinson gave evidence to the UK Treasury Select Committee, as part of its investigation into Private Equity.
