A M essage F rom T he P resident Please allow me to introduce you to Professional Photographers of New England. I am guessing that if you have this booklet in hand, you’re already a member, past member or may have met me or one of our amazing board members at an event. Whatever the reason you have our event and program guide, I guarantee that having it will open the door to a world of creative possibilities. PPANE’s programs in 2018 not only offer handson learning options but will help you grow your network as you make new friends and meet other photographers. I hope you will take a moment to check out our upcoming classes and events. We have planned 2018 specifically with YOU in mind! We are kicking off spring with a full day of learning FREE for members. See Paul Ernest and Will Cadena at our pre-con to the New England Institute of Professional Photography (NEIPP) on April 7th. Why not stay for our annual NEIPP session from April 8th-12th? Both events, along with a live image competition, will be in Hyannis – Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Mark your calendars for our hands-on learning series. Many of these classes are FREE to members or priced especially for you at a member discounted price. We will be rounding off the year with another FREE member event when we host Tony Sweet. Register for Tony’s full day class on October 28th in New Hampshire. If you want more time with Tony, sign up for his bonus day on October 29th. You’ll be able to shoot in a smaller group, hands-on and more personalized. I will be finishing off my year as PPANE President at the annual awards banquet where we will welcome the new board of directors. See Tony Sweet and stay to celebrate our members’ achievements. It’s a great night to hang out with friends and make some new ones too. We will be announcing the PPANE Photographer of the Year and the recipients of the PPA National Award, PPANE President’s Award and our Courts of Honor as well. During dinner you’ll participate in scholarship drawings and see the new PPANE Board sworn in! No matter how you look at it, 2018 is going to be AMAZING for PPANE and its members! We hope you’ll take advantage of the Programs and Events we have planned. We hope you will consider joining or rejoining PPANE to take advantage of FREE member programming and benefits! I look forward to seeing you at the New England conventions and at our many upcoming events. It is a pleasure to meet the members, and I feel honored to serve as the PPANE President 2017-2018! Can’t wait to see you all soon!

PPANE 2018 CONFERENCE Paul Ernest Visual Storyteller Saturday, April 7, 9:45AM-12:45PM
Paul Ernest began his career in advertising design in 1993 after receiving his BFA at the University of North Texas. Having been brought up in a family of fine artists and writers, Paul decided to pursue his love of photography and storytelling imagery. He began to experiment with a style combining composite photography with visually tactile elements and a warm color palette. Combining his passion for storytelling, Paul released his first image entitled “Chasing Butterflies” in 2009. Since then Paul has gone on to create numerous collections telling stories of healing, growth and inspiration. “We live through stories... stories that are handed down to us through seasons and generations. We are inspired by stories and live to write our own narrative and our own contribution of life to tell.” –Paul Ernest Spend time with Paul, understanding his thought process in his images and witnessing the amazing talent of this visual storyteller.

PPANE 2018 CONFERENCE Use Light in Any Situation & Upsell Saturday, April 7, 2:00-6:00PM Sponsored by:
Join Will as he shares some of his quick tricks and tips for how to get commercial-like imagery, when there isn’t much time to spare on the job and any kind of session (wedding/commercial/portrait). During his program, you’ll learn to use hard light, soft light, and available light along with reflectors and color gels. Attendees will also learn business and social media secrets to help you cater to not only events, but corporate and advertising clients as well. 95% in camera / 5% in post. Will combines a modern, edgy look with traditional photography. Shooting for over 17 years has given him the experience to break the rules of traditional photography and deliver a whole new look to his images without retouching. He is one of B&H’s featured photographers and enjoys and values speaking for Canon Experience Center, Album Epoca Academy in Italy and WPPI. Professional Photographers Association of New England

PPANE 2018 CONFERENCE Image Competition
PPANE will be holding its first digital image competition through www.printcompetition.com at the Conference the day before NEIPP starts, on April 7, 2018. Here’s your chance to test out those images that you’ve reworked since the District results or test run images that weren’t ready for the District competition. Enter as many images as you want before sending them to the next stage of competition!
Competition Rules
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
All entries must be entered via www.printcompetition.com. Entrants may submit only digital files. No changes to your entries are permitted once the entry deadline has passed. No refunds will be issued after the entry fee is paid. Entrants do not need to be PPANE members to compete in the PPANE Competition. Entries previously merited at PPA’s International Photographic Competition are not eligible, including any image from a merited album.
Eligibility
1. Entrant must have captured and created the original exposure or exposures for all entries other than those submitted to the Artist category. 2. All processing, manipulation and/or rendering were done by entrant or under their direct supervision. For entries in the Artist category, all digital work must be done by entrant. 3. The entrant has obtained and has access to all necessary releases (model or property) and agrees to hold PPANE harmless against all claims and liabilities arising out of PPANE’s display, publication and promotion or other use of each image submitted to PPANE. 4. The entrant’s name shall not appear anywhere in or on the face of the entry. 5. There is no limit to the number of entries that may be submitted per entrant. 6. No entry will be eligible if it has been made under the supervision of an instructor or as a class assignment. All images submitted must be self-directed. Images created in an educational environment under direct supervision from an instructor are ineligible. 7. All elements of each entry much be created by the entrant, except in the case of Artist entries where the entrant can use material from other sources. If an entry, in the good-faith opinion of the PPANE Image Competition Committee, violates copyright, trademark or any other applicable law, that entry shall be disqualified. 8. Multiple entries of the same subject may be submitted. 9. Entry fee for PPANE members $20 each, and non-PPANE members $30 each. 10. The official submission date to send your entries begins on February 28th with a final submission deadline of March 31, 2018.
Prizes
In addition to first, second and third place trophies, NEIPP scholarships will be awarded to the makers of the three highest scoring images. These awards are based on the scoring of a single image, not cumulative case scores. Only one scholarship will be awarded per entrant. (For instance: if one photographer creates the top two entries, that maker will only receive one scholarship and the next highest scoring entrant will receive the 2nd place award.) Judges decisions are final. Ties will be broken by considering the next highest scoring image submitted by the tied entrants, and so forth until the tie is broken. First prize is a $750 NEIPP 2019 scholarship; second prize is a $500 NEIPP 2019 scholarship; third prize is a $250 NEIPP 2019 scholarship. Scholarships must be used for a full week tuition at NEIPP 2019, (for either a four-day class or two two-day classes). If any awarded recipient cannot use his/her scholarship for the following year’s NEIPP, the monies are forfeited and that amount will go back into the NEIPP scholarship or general fund.

Entries and entry fees are to be submitted through www.printcompetition.com. Files must be sized so that the longest dimension is 4000 pixels. Each file must contain an embedded color profile of either sRGB or Adobe RGB1998 and be saved at a JPEG quality setting of 10. In most cases, total file size should not exceed 3.5 MB. Larger files will be accepted when necessary so long are they are JPEG/10. No underscores or special characters are to be used in the file name. The deadline is March 31, 2018. Judging will take place April 7, 2018 during the PPANE Conference prior to NEIPP.
