Wrapping and packing is efficient and sustainable

LoeschPack presented its complete systems for efficient and sustainable packaging at interpack with sister company Hastamat.

With its bar line and its combined line, LoeschPack exhibited several integrated packaging solutions to visitors: from primary packaging to the sales tray. The spotlight was on new pack styles that use sustainable and recyclable materials to meet current needs.

The packaging machinery manufacturer says it has rethought horizontal flow wrap packaging and has developed a modular packaging line: from the buffer via the feeder, the bar packed in the flow pack arrives ready for the sales tray. And all the production steps are carried out from a single source.

Whether for a multilevel or gondola buffer system, the LOOP buffer system is specially designed to meet the requirements of large-scale production for bars and other confectionery products, while at the heart of the bar system is the redesigned FHW-S flow wrapping machine from the LoeschPack F-series. This system, which is optimised for speed and efficiency, is suitable for both cold seal and heat seal applications.

With its high-performance infeed, the machine packs up to 2,100 bars or slabs at 200 film metres per minute. And both traditional and alternative packaging materials can be used on the platform without any problems.

The fully revised CMT cartoner packs the incoming bars from the flow wrapper in cardboard. This spacesaving machine is suitable for secondary packaging of a wide variety of pre-packed products for the confectionery, food, and non-food sectors and can handle an infeed of up to 1,000 products per minute with a maximum output of up to 200 cartons. Completing the line up on the stand was the LTM-DUO combined line that is a fully comprehensive system solution for packaging chocolate bars.

An automated label inspection solution suite is introduced

Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection launched an automated, full label inspection service for food manufacturers in time for interpack. The technology inspects 100% of products and shapes and identifies 100% of label data and quality challenges.

This new portfolio, consisting of the V13 flat pack label, CV combination and CMV combination, is a cost-effective way to exchange unreliable, manual spot checks with 100% automated label inspection in high speed production lines. The solution helps to achieve documented label inspection in line with industry guidelines to support consumer safety, prevent recalls and expensive retailer fines.

“The automated label inspection portfolio offers solutions that can easily be integrated into existing production lines, either as installation kits, standalone systems or combined with other Mettler-Toledo product inspection devices,” says Neil Gruettner of Mettler-Toledo.

Latest weighing and inspection solutions are designed to offer customers flexible and efficient production options

Minebea Intec presented its solutions which help manufacturers to increase their product safety and efficiency at interpack. With systems for visual product inspection, like the VisioPointer, through to a new checkweigher, the company generated a lot of interest on its stand. The checkweigher Flexus, which is also available as a high-speed version, was on display along with the x-ray inspection system Dylight.

Visitors to the stand also had a chance to see the company’s established, high-precision products including the automatic weigh price labeller WPL-A, which provides a complete package for customers in the food industry.

Fourth Quality Pillar

With its new range of vision systems, Minebea is adding a fourth pillar of quality assurance products in the form of end-of-line inspection devices to its offer.

An example is the VisioPointer which has three cameras as standard, multiple lighting options and optional side and satellite cameras for multi-angle inspection. It is designed to deliver high-precision results when checking labels, print or the expiry dates. It also provides reliable seal inspection.

Alongside this new inspection technology, Minebea demonstrated its automatic weigh price labeller WPL-A which is a reliable solution for products which have variable weights such as cheese, meat or fish. This not only facilitates product tracing, but it also increases throughput and productivity.

Finally, in the checkweigher range, Minebea showed its Essentus Performance L Combi, which combines the checkweigher Essentus Performance L and the metal detector Vistus in one compact base frame.

End of line machines offer fast changeover times to meet needs

At interpack, visitors could see the new Somic 434 packaging machine that places even greater emphasis on user-friendliness than the previous 424 series.

This new modular machine concept is based on proven, tested and standardised function groups and offers maximum performance on a compact footprint for tray packaging and wraparound solutions. Users in the food, confectionery, pet food, non-food and pharmaceutical sectors can benefit from numerous new features including the quick format changeover, which is a crucial requirement for many customers.

“We think that format changeover will remain a top concern in customised machine design,” says Josef Bliemel, director of systems engineering at the company.

The new machine series offers operator benefits from the user-friendly machine design, and the production planning teams’ benefit from the machine’s high flexibility.

Somic equipment is available in the UK from Alpma GB.
