Our wellness staff will warm you up and cool you down with various exercises before and after a short walk. Join neighbors and friends for good music and conversation, all while contributing to a healthy, active lifestyle.

Activity Room 6

The wellness team will guide you through gentle stretches to improve flexibility and balance and increase range of motion, making it easier to perform everyday tasks.

Located in the Star Points Building, the Barley Wellness Center offers state-of-the-art equipment, fitness classes and an indoor pool and spa. Trained staff will help you develop a personalized fitness program. (All classes are free to residents.)

Tai Chi Tuesdays and Thursdays

10 – 10:30 a.m.

Assembly Room

Tai Chi has been described as meditation in motion, gentle flowing movement performed in a slow, focused manner. Anyone can participate, as Tai Chi places minimal stress on muscles and joints. Therefore, it is especially suitable and beneficial for older adults. The benefits of Tai Chi include decreased stress, increased energy, improved flexibility and improved balance.

When her doctor tells her of a new expensive treatment, Matt decides to give her nearly half a million dollars in an evidence lockup that he seized from a local drug bust. When Ann and her husband turn up dead only days after naming Chief Whitlock as beneficiary on a million dollar life insurance policy, things start heating up for Matt, as the evidence Alex is gathering stacks up against him. Set 30 years after its predecessor, the movie follows Maverick’s return to the U.S. Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor Program (also known as U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School, or “Top Gun”), where he must confront his past as he trains a group of younger pilots, among them the son of Maverick’s deceased best friend, Lieutenant Nick “Goose” Bradshaw.

History

We last examined this subject over a year ago, and now we will revisit some of the missed episodes. Programs held Mondays, at 4 p.m., in the Assembly Room.

Dec. 5

Being Anglo-Saxon

After the Romans left, the void was filled by the warrior culture of the Anglo-Saxons of legend.

King Arthur and

Beowulf

Start the Dark Ages

We will examine the lives of the wealthy, struggling peasants, slaves, nuns and monks.

Living Under Norman Rule

The Normans were the last invaders of England in 1066 at the Battle of Hastings. The Normans gave the culture a strong central government.

Dec. 12

Being Poor in the Middle Ages

After the ravages of the Black Death, we see how the economic hardship partly due to the feudal system led the first people to revolt in 1381.

Being a Medieval Woman

The society was patriarchal and male-dominated. The single woman’s choice was marriage, prostitution or get thee to a nunnery!

We will take a Christmas break and resume programming on Jan. 9, 2023, with some new topics.
