Tour of the Bayernhof Museum – Rescheduled from 9-22-21 Wednesday, Nov. 3 1 p.m. $10
Limited to nine residents, the tour of this extremely unique, 19,000-square-foot museum (the former residence of Charles B. Brown, III, the Museum’s founder) will take you through a world-class collection of music boxes and other antique automatic music machines, as well as many other fascinating items. This tour is not accessible. You may get on the waiting list by giving Karen $10 by Oct. 28.

A landmark experience. A dining and drinking destination. A historic tradition. Since its inception, the Kaufman House has been a gathering place for travelers, neighbors and friends. Today, Kaufman Tavern continues and updates the tradition, providing warm, welcome, restorative libations and a fun, comfortable, exquisite dining experience. The Kaufman House was built after the fire of 1902 and recently renovated after a fire. Place a reservation by calling the registration line by Nov. 10.

America’s biggest and best brass band is back! They kick off their 40th season with an evening of hits from the 1940s. James Gourlay and the band will come out swinging with tunes from Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn and Benny Goodman. You may want to jump up and jitterbug when you hear their wild big-band sound. The installation includes the Mangeurs de pommes de terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885), the Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), La Chambre à Coucher (The Bedroom, 1889) and so much more. Lifelong Learning The Architecture of Power: Great Palaces of the Ancient World 4 p.m., Assembly Room Nov. 8
Nov. 22
We start our journey by looking first at recent history and the palaces of Suddam Hussein. In this lecture, we will see how he was inspired by ancient Babylonian and Egyptian cultures and how it changed with the threat from Iran and the United States.
The ruler of the Assyrians at the time of the building of this palace left us with an account of his conquests and his knowledge of trees species.

Mall Kata Palace: Pharaoh, Foreigners and Gods Fourth century B.C.E. was a time of peace, prosperity and plentitude for Egyptians. We will learn littleknown facts about their religious rituals and about how the rulers dominated their people.

In studying Bronze Age Crete, we will see the intersection of multiple cultures. At this palace, we will learn of extravagant rituals and entertainment.

Masada: Herod the Great Between East and West We know the history of Masada and the deaths, but how did it come to be built there? We will find out.
Nero’s Domus Transitoria at Rome
Nero was a transition between boxes of stone and the new Roman concrete, which allowed new designs such as domed ceilings and custom columns, as he desired.
This was an extraordinary palace centered around a throne room. By looking at the arrangement of the rooms, we will see how the royals lived and maintained control.
