Joga Bonito - Student’s Experience
“Bend it like Beckham” is one of my all time favourite sports movie. It’s a rom- com full of fun, laughter and a ‘big fat Punjabi wedding’; but at its core it’s a story about two women breaking societal barriers to play their favourite sport - Football. We girls too had our moment-to-cherish on 15th December 2019 when our college organised Joga Bonito - a football event where Seniors, Juniors, Alumni and Faculty members participated. It wasn’t societal barriers that we were breaking this time, but the barriers of self-confidence and self-doubt, since most of us had never played before.
On that day, our spirits were as high as the sun in the sky. We were twenty-six girls in three teams respectively.

The event started from 10am. As the matches started the teams were cheered by their supporters. Each match had a lot of competitive spirit and team work. Strategies were drawn out by each team. Some players were injured but still the passion was seen in their eyes. First match was played between Ebiz 2 seniors and Ebiz 1 juniors. Both the teams played extremely well and the match was won by Ebiz2 seniors. All the teams were passionate and determined so many matches resulted in a draw. Even junior teams gave a tough competition to seniors. Even the match between PGDM Juniors and Ebiz Seniors was engaging. PGDM juniors won the match by 1-0.
Finals was played between Ebiz 2 seniors and PGDM juniors. Due to time constraints the play time was reduced to 10 minutes. It was a tough fight between the two teams. The competition was neck to neck and then the seniors received the penalty shot. Palak Arora took the shot and it was a goal. It was a perfect shot. This made match more interesting for audience as no one was able to make out who will win the tournament. Finally Joga Bonito - Girls was won by Ebiz 2 Seniors. They won by 1-0. The titles were as follows:-
Best Defender- Sayal Ojha Maximum no. of Goals- Palak Arora Best Goalkeeper- Nutan Godde
Joga Bonito turned out to be an event which had a blend of emotions, starting from anxiety, cheerfulness, support, happiness, etc. Teams were all blend of emotions ...We saw them smile on their wins and saw their tears on losses, even though there was pain and pressure... we saw them motivating each other and being there whenever one falled .. A perfect example of team spirit.
