2021 WEDDING TRENDS the ultimate celebration 2020 proved that love and marriage doesn’t quit in the face of a pandemic. If anything, brides and grooms are getting more creative than ever before, and that will certainly affect trends from fashion to floral to food as we move forward. Because of this surge in couples’ creativity, weddings in 2021 will run the spectrum from largerthan-life, escapist extravaganzas to more modest backyard affairs, all the time leaving no detail unattended to. STYLE: MAXIMALISM TO MINIMALISM In 2021 bridal fashion, nothing is off limits. Brides are embracing maximalism with showstopping fairytale ball gowns, dramatic silhouettes dripping with glamour, or punchy pops of color. In uncertain times, a wedding is the ultimate celebratory
moment, and brides want their look to reflect that jubilation. Still other brides are leaning more minimalist in the face of that uncertainty, choosing a Little White Dress instead of a formal gown. With outdoor venues being a hot commodity in 2021, weather is also a fashion consideration. Dresses are designed to be adaptable with detachable shrugs, cropped lace toppers, and capes to bring both warmth and drama. Beyond weather, gown details don’t shy away from making a statement. From off-the-shoulder balloon sleeves to high-low hemlines to oversized bows and ruffles, gowns are going big in 2021. Other details are more about the cut of the dress itself. Look for square necklines and backless styles in 2021.

As for the bridesmaids, mix and match is where it’s at, but brides will certainly still have a say in what’s being worn. Dresses range from less-formal looks to the opulence of luxury fabrics. Velvet is definitely having a moment. But whether laid-back or fancy, the goal is often to work in various different-butcoordinating cuts, colors, fabric types, and patterns to let the personality and beauty of each bridesmaid shine through. And after many seasons of neutral and blush wedding colors, brides are starting to amp up the color. As brides get on board with color, so do the grooms. For the more daring fella, suits in sophisticated shades of blue, burgundy, brown, and green are taking the place of traditional black tuxedos. Shoes also reflect this colorful range. Further accessorizing with patterned shirts, ties, pocket squares, and socks lets the groom and groomsmen have some fun with their fashion, too.
Congratulations

THEMES: INTIMATE MADE INCREDIBLE While the classic wedding is always in style, couples are thinking outside the box when it comes to their ceremony and reception this year. Brides and grooms are seeking out more open-air and outdoor venues, which affects the vibe overall. There’s also a trend toward more intimate events in 2021. Smaller guest counts mean more budget can be reserved for details that may otherwise have taken a back seat, such as elaborate floral design, unique rental furniture, and a highly-personalized guest experience. Couples are pushing the boundaries of wedding decor, opting for bold colors and personalized touches that are a true reflection of both their relationship and family traditions. 2021 is about celebrating with those nearest and dearest, and doing so with the utmost thought, care, and attention to detail. 2021 WEDDING TRENDS
ver
ctur e s to
a wi ur ?
Rustic-chic weddings are still common, but the trend is shifting to combine earthy-glam with a touch of edginess. You’ll see elements like crystal chandeliers and eclectic antique place settings juxtaposed with neon signs. As with dress trends, the overall look of wedding themes and decor in 2021 falls in the broad spectrum between going for broke and home-spun perfection. FLOWERS: LUSH & LEAFY The floral industry is experiencing a return to the botanical, cascading bridal bouquet and more saturated colors. Brides want flowers with a natural and undone feeling: lush, loose, and looking like they were just plucked from a garden. Some brides are turning to exotic blooms, while others work with their florist for bouquets full of locally-gathered foliage. Sometimes, the flowers themselves are few. Some brides are opting for an abundance of greenery and branches instead. To bring the drama, you’ll see canopies of leaves, vines, and blooms, hanging arrangements, and archways or wall-like backdrops trimmed with flowers for a beautiful photo op. These creative, pictureperfect backdrops are often seen at outdoor weddings. Florists work with nature to frame the “I dos” with something sensational. A floral installation might use an existing tree as a base, with blooms crawling up the trunk or elegant fabric sweeping from branch to branch. Man-made arches range from traditional curves to geometric angles. FOOD & DRINK: TASTY FAVORITES The traditional sit-down, three- or fivecourse meal is enjoying a sort of revolution. While you’ll still see these formal dinners at more traditional weddings, many brides and grooms are turning dinner into something more relaxed and social.

2021 WEDDING TRENDS
Couples want their food and drinks to have meaning, so they’ll work with caterers to create custom meals and craft cocktails that feature some of their favorite things. Dinners that feature sustainable catering with locally-grown and in-season ingredients are also highly sought-after. These more casual farm-to-table dinners go hand-in-hand with family-style dining to foster a comfortable, homey environment. When it comes to desserts, some couples choose to have both a classic wedding cake (it’s tradition!) along with non-traditional favorites, like donuts, ice cream or candy. As variety reins, a series of small wedding cakes also lends a fanciful touch full of many flavors. And just as food trucks are gaining popularity, so are dessert “trucks” like gelato carts and gourmet popsicle stands. Then there’s the late-night snack — a treat that many guests
have almost come to expect nowadays. Couples can go for a crowd favorite like pizza or sliders, or offer a hometown specialty. Late-night snacks are not only yummy, they’re yet another opportunity for the bride and groom to get creative and show off their personality and style. In all stages of the meal, couples are being increasingly conscious of food preferences and allergies. More and more people follow specialty diets nowadays, and if you aren’t one of them, odds are someone on your guest list lives a gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan life. Whether due to health reasons or a lifestyle choice, it’s important to accommodate those guests. Luckily, wedding and event caterers are keeping up with the times, offering plenty of scrumptious meals to suit all palates.
The Fountain of Youth sits right in the heart of the Oldest City, featuring 15 acres that overlook the Matanzas River and St. Augustine Inlet. Choose your ideal setting for your event with our stunning backdrops from our Peacock Garden, Founder’s Pier, The Love Tree, The Spanish Mission, and more.

A SMALL WEDDING IN A BIG WAY
Perfect Wedding. Historic Setting.
pivoting to a smaller wedding One of the biggest trends in 2020 weddings was the need to pivot the planning. Couples rescheduled, pared down their guest lists, and largely scrambled to rearrange and reimagine. Because of the state of the world, we’ve seen a surge in smaller weddings done up in a big way. Whether you’re choosing a small wedding out of want or need, here are some things to consider.

A NEW VISION On the heels of 2020’s uncertainties, there are a few key changes many couples are encountering as they start to plan weddings in 2021 and beyond. First up, streamlining the guest list. Brides and grooms are choosing smaller, intimate affairs in an effort to keep guests at ease and conform to any 10:08 AM local capacity regulations. Since many couples shifted back their 2020 wedding date, Saturdays are filling up fast in the foreseeable future. This means a rise in Sunday, Friday, and even mid-week weddings. One good thing about a weekday wedding: Your dream venue will likely be more wallet-friendly. Brides and grooms are also embracing nature, taking any chance to host some or all of their wedding out of doors. On the tech-savvy flip side, livestreaming and wedding watch parties are on the rise, as is the desire for professional videography services to fully capture the day for friends and family at home. SMALL WEDDING, BIG STYLE While a small wedding limits guest count—and a post-2020 wedding may limit

A SMALL WEDDING IN A BIG WAY
options for dates and venues—there are also boundless, exciting opportunities for creativity. Because of the modest number of guests, couples are able to allocate budget funds elsewhere. Consider detaildriven tablescapes, larger-than-life floral installations, and characterful rentals to create the ultimate atmosphere. Think outside the box to create the small wedding of your wildest dreams. Brides and grooms are getting creative with entertainment, too. There’s still uncertainty surrounding crowded dance floors, so couples are either ensuring ample space to spread out or dreaming up a fun alternative. From musicians to live painters to dancers, there are countless ways to keep guests entertained even off the dance floor. It might also help to think of your intimate wedding as a glorious dinner party and find inspiration in that. With an intimate group, the vibe can be more communal and casual. THOUGHTFUL THROUGHOUT While couples want to plan a day that’s beautiful to behold, there’s also a focus on keeping guests safe and healthy. As such, weddings are leaning heavily on thoughtfulness. To limit points of contact throughout the day, consider giving each guest a personalized welcome box complete with their wedding program, favors, and more. Rethink passed appetizers in favor of individual charcuterie boards or boxes of snacks. Perhaps seat guests in smaller, spaced-out clusters, rather than at crowded banquet tables. With the right attitude and imaginative thinking, an intimate wedding can be the wedding of your dreams. Make the most of your small numbers, focus on the marriage, and you’re sure to find that a small wedding can be perfect in a big way. 22 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021

WORKING WITH WEDDING VENDORS ensure the best experience A successful wedding hinges greatly on the vendors you choose and the relationship you cultivate with those professionals. Here are some ways to ensure a vendor experience that keeps all parties happy and expectations fulfilled. APPRECIATE THE PROS For starters, appreciate and treat each vendor like a professional. Established vendors come with years of experience in their industry, plus the proven results that made you seek out their services in the first place. Respect their expertise and skill. Listen to them and trust that a good vendor will always have your best interest at heart. Remember that you get what you give, so it always pays to act like a professional yourself.
26 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
At your initial meeting with a vendor, be on time and make a good first impression. Once hired, make payments in a timely manner. Stay on top of communication, but be reasonable with your expectations in how that vendor communicates back. They may have dozens of events to tackle before your big day, so understand that you can’t be the center of their universe. HELP THEM HELP YOU Before your initial meeting with a vendor, thoroughly read through their website, view their portfolio, and check out any testimonials so you have a full understanding of their offerings up front. Come to that meeting with ideas and a vision, or at least be prepared to explain what you don’t want.

WORKING WITH VENDORS
Even the best vendors aren’t mind readers, so help them help you. KEEP CLEAR EXPECTATIONS Before signing a contract, give it a very close read so everyone’s expectations are clear and agreed upon. Is there a service fee and is gratuity included? Don’t be afraid to politely ask for what you want, especially if it’s a matter of merging certain parts of a vendor’s available packages. For instance, a caterer might tack on an additional passed appetizer. It doesn’t hurt to ask nicely. In the meetings you have leading up to your wedding, be honest and upfront about any concerns or dislikes, so the vendor has a chance to make it right ahead of time.

DAY-OF BREAKS & MEALS For any vendor putting in significant time at your wedding, breaks are required by law. It’s also good form to provide a meal for vendors working six or more hours. Talk with your caterer about vendor meals, as they might differ from your regular menu or come at a discounted rate. Set aside time and seated space for your vendors to eat, ideally when the rest of your guests are eating. The DJ or musicians might eat during cocktail hour, so they can keep the music and speeches flowing during dinner. AFTER-WEDDING ETIQUETTE For any vendor who doesn’t include gratuity in their fee, be sure to tip them. If you were especially impressed a particular vendor, leave them a thoughtful review on their social media pages. Also, send a physical thank-you card or email that they could reference as a testimonial in the future. This way, you will have built and maintained a positive relationship with your vendors, rooted in respect and admiration for the way their talents and services made your wedding an unforgettable experience. CUSTOMIZE YOUR DRINKS 7 tips for signature drinks You can’t expect your guests to go thirsty, so why not quench them in style? Crafting a drink that reflects your theme and personality requires two parts ingenuity, one part sense of humor, and a heaping dollop of delicious. Belly up to the following guide to your unique brew. THINK SEASONALLY For a summer wedding, consider refreshing fruits like watermelon, citrus, grapefruit, and mint. Spring is an appropriate time to roll out new and unexpected flavors like basil, rosemary, lavender, and elderflower. Cinnamon, cream, vanilla, and espresso harken cozy fall and winter vibes. You can practically taste the firewood. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOXED WINE Have a favorite go-to that needs just a touch of nuptial oomph? Take things up a notch by adding fruit or liqueur to your regular sipper. Berry mojitos, jalapeno margaritas, and a bourbon cherry pop take classics to another level.

BUILD UPON YOUR BUBBLES Champagne toasts and champagne chugs alike deserve an upgrade. Imagine a crushed peppermint rimmed glass for a wintery refresher, or tinted glittery sugar for some spring zing. Or serve a fizzy, creamy dream by pouring brut champs over a scoop of sherbet. MORE-TINIS You can’t go wrong with a pretty martini. Serve the classic if that’s your particular poison, but martinis have come a long way since the original. Grasshoppers, Cosmos, Appletinis are only the beginning, and the glassware alone takes your party uptown and your pinkies out. A NOD TO THE LOCALS Pander to your audience and go with a local favorite. Is your hometown known for its brewery? Serve its beer with an orange garnish, or sweet soda to make a fun radler. Old Fashioneds are a great homage to the Midwest, beloved by all in its many incarnations. Think local and create accordingly. WHAT SERVICE Presentation will be what distinguishes your signature drink, so get creative with how and with what it’s served. Skip the fancy tumblers and serve right inside of old timey Coke bottles, mason jars, or go tropical with halved coconuts or pineapples. Miniature umbrellas, fun stir sticks, and even sparklers can garnish your glassware. And don’t forget fun signage for a detailed description of your designer drink. It’s the clever details that leave a lasting impression with your guests and photograph adorably. PremierBrideFlorida.com

GLUTEN-FREE & VEGAN dare to be different and delicious More and more people suffer from various food allergies or choose to prescribe to specialty diets nowadays. If you aren’t one of them, odds are someone on your guest list lives a gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan life. Whether due to health reasons or a lifestyle choice, it’s important for the bride and groom, the dinner party hosts, to accommodate their guests. Luckily, wedding and event caterers are keeping up with the times, offering plenty of scrumptious meals to suit all palates. Vegetarians do not eat meat. Vegans do not eat any animal byproducts, including dairy. People who are gluten-free stay away from grains like wheat, rye, and barley. Once you identify any dietary restrictions among your wedding guests, leave it to the food
professionals to serve something that not only meets your guests’ needs, but also tastes delicious. The key is to plan ahead. In your wedding invitations, on the RSVP card, include a line which says “please advise of any dietary requirements.” This invites your guests to alert you to any restrictions without feeling like a bother. Whenever possible, work with your caterer to plan hors-d’oeuvres and dinner options that cover all your bases. If serving passed appetizers during cocktail hour, make sure there’s a variety of offerings. This same variety is also easier to achieve if serving a buffet or family-style dinner.

CHOOSING BRIDESMAIDS how to pick out your wedding party If you’re like most brides-to-be, you’ve probably had your bridesmaids picked out for a while. The daydream typically includes mimosas and all your best girlfriends in fluffy white robes. But once you’re engaged, the decisions get real and sometime’s there more than just your daydreams to consider. There are sisters, future sisters-in-law, college friends, childhood friends, and other important ladies in your life - how do you narrow it down? Here are some things to ponder as you go about choosing your bridesmaids. Sizing up. You can have as many or as few bridesmaids as you like, but it’s not uncommon to see large wedding parties at larger weddings and smaller parties at more intimate affairs. Still, there’s no rule, so do what works for you. Also consider cost and coordination when deciding on the number of bridesmaids in your party. It’s much easier to coordinate bridesmaid dress shopping and fittings with three girls, as opposed to ten. Family First. Once you determine the number, start with the obvious candidates: Family. How many siblings do you have? And your fiancée? If you each have one or two siblings (and an equal number of ladies and gents), it can be easy to fit them into the wedding party. If you’re outnumbered (say, the groom has five siblings and you have none), you might want to go a different route. Remember that you can always ask siblings to be ushers or readers - a part of the wedding, if not officially in the party. You’ve Got a Friend. Once you’ve figured out how to include close family members in your bridal party, it’s time to move on to friends. This seems like a no-brainer - just pick your best girlfriends! But it’s not always 36 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
that simple. First, think about the number of bridesmaids and groomsmen you and your fiancée settled on. If you have seven best friends and he has two, you might have to pick the best of the best and forego the rest to keep things even. Also, consider where your ladies are at in life: Are any pregnant? Raising a toddler? Living across the country? Traveling a ton for work? Though they love you and want to celebrate with you, don’t assume everyone you ask will jump at the chance to be in your wedding. Should any of your potential bridesmaids voice hesitation, be understanding of that decision and have a backup in mind. Just as with family members, if you have a close friend you’d like to include in the wedding but don’t have enough space for her as a bridesmaid, think about giving her a different part to play. Beyond readers and ushers, many brides ask a friend to be their Personal Attendant: a fancy phrase for the person who does the bride’s bidding. But it’s not all giving orders - the right friend for the job would delight in being close to you on your wedding day and helping out any way she can. Choose Wisely. A lot goes into being a bridesmaid. There are dress fittings, alterations, parties, showers, the rehearsal dinner, photos, and so much more. You’ll have to count on these ladies to be there for you, maintain a positive attitude, and be a worthy reflection of you on one of the most important days of your life. Choose wisely. Choose women who will build you up, go the extra mile, and do all in their power to make your wedding day one for the ages.

WEDDING CUISINE saying “I do” to cuisine and a caterer Catering services have certainly raised the bar in recent years, and personal, memorable, delicious meals are becoming the new normal. FEASTS WITH FLAIR Nowadays, caterers are offering more bold flavors, meaningful meals, and fun experiences. Sit-down meals are gravitating toward family-style, which works with everything from homey meat and potatoes to build-your-own tacos. Ethnic cuisine is a great way to bring a little flavor to your reception. You might offer a variety of food stations serving everything from sushi to French cheeses. Food trucks are another popular way to up the fun factor, and late-night snacks like pizza or grilled cheese sliders are a huge hit. To get really personal, think about hosting each of your favorite meals. The bride’s might be a nice juicy steak and the groom’s might
40 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
be chicken and waffles — and that’s okay! The more you embrace what makes you unique, the more memorable your wedding will be. In recent years, there’s also been an emphasis not only on unique meals, but locally-sourced, quality ingredients. Couples like to support local purveyors in their community, as well as enjoy the freshness of a farm-to-table feast. START THE SEARCH Some reception locations require that you use their in-house caterer or banquet services, which makes your choice fairly simple. If your reception location allows you to bring in an independent caterer, you still might have to choose from a pre-approved list. As you call caterers to inquire after their services, make sure to have as much information on hand as possible. They’ll want to know your wedding date, time, approximate number of guests, and whether you’d like a sit-down or buffet-style meal.
PremierBrideFlorida.com
CATERING WEDDING CUISNINE
If you already have some ideas for your menu or any specific limitations (think vegetarian or gluten free), let the caterer know. Ask to see sample wedding menus and references. DECIDE ON YOUR STYLE Now it’s time to factor in your wedding’s style and degree of formality. Think about the vibe your wedding — is it a classic ballroom affair or a rustic outdoor bash? Do you want the food to be posh or playful? Such details will help a caterer determine what they can offer that falls in line with your vision. SCHEDULE A TASTING Make sure to go to all tastings and speak up! Don’t be afraid to ask if they can tweak something to your tastes. FINALIZE THE MENU Gather inspiration from magazines and websites, think about weddings you’ve
attended, and ask friends for favorites and failures. Consult your caterer and trust them. They’ve seen lots of weddings and know what works best for the number of people, time of day, and location, so take their professional advice to heart. CALCULATE THE COST Facilities with in-house catering departments may have a minimum charge or set-up fee, while an independent caterer will usually work within any reasonable budget. Keep in mind that buffets are usually priced higher, since they’ll have to account for a little more per person. Caterers usually require your final guest count one week before the wedding. This is the number of people you’ll actually be charged for. Decide if you’ll include meals for wedding-related personnel, such as the DJ and photographer.

WEDDING CUISINE
If cost is an issue, ask your caterer about more casual meals for vendors. Finally, make sure to ask what extras are included in the catering cost. Find out if your caterer will provide table linens, plates, glasses, crystal, silverware, and serving pieces. HIRE THE SERVERS Your caterer will give you their expert opinion, but a safe bet is one server for every 10 to 12 guests for a sit-down dinner, and two servers for every 50 guests for a buffet-style dinner. If you’re having a full open bar, that will require more help — one bartender for every 50 to 75 guests.

WEDDING PL ANNING
THE BEST GIFT YOU CAN GET hiring a wedding coordinator Planning a wedding means taking a hard look at expenses and deciding whether a bridal consultant will save you time and money in the long run. Wedding consultants essentially do everything you need so that you don’t have to worry about it. From planning a destination wedding to handling pre-wedding plans to coordinating the events on the wedding day, wedding consultants offer services that include as much or as little as you need. In fact, a wedding consultant can even work with a couple from the day of their engagement right up until they board the airplane for their honeymoon. If you do decide to choose a wedding consultant, then first and foremost, remember that you must like the person you hire. While there are many good consultants in the business, finding one that can handle your temperament, special requests, family issues and overall personality is the real key to success. Finding the right wedding consultant is a blending together of personalities and the final decision should never be taken lightly. Overall, wedding consultants are all about making your day the best it can be. From picking the best style for your hair to dealing with all problems with a smile, a wedding consultant will make sure that you have no idea about the last minute pending disasters that were averted just in time. A wedding consultant will make sure that your wedding goes off without a hitch and that’s good news because then all you have to think about is how you and your husband can begin to spend the rest of your life together.

Your Wedding Planning Starts with Your Dream... We help turn your dream wedding into reality!!!
ATTENDANT GIFTS remembering the day They’re the friends you have known for years or perhaps soon-to-be in-laws who you admire and cherish for their special words of love and laughter. Wedding attendants play a large part in weddings and it’s no surprise that brides often languish and toil over the perfect wedding attendant gift.
pinkparrott.com • 904.469.8785 hello@pinkparrott.com
It’s no wonder that you want to give these special women (and sometimes men) a gift and long-term memory of how important they are in your life. If some of your attendants are traveling in from out of town how about holding a luncheon for them the day before the wedding? Local attendants can also be treated to a nice lunch, however in this case you can do it several weeks before your big day. In regards to the luncheon you might also want to include your mother, the groom’s mother and a few of the other participants who are helping to round out your day. This could include singers, organists, attendants at your reception and even parents of important people who have helped your day come together in such a unique way.
Custom Embroidery Services also include screen printing and vinyl. No minimum order requirements! We can purchase the items for you or you can bring your own!

A special gift is also in order and you might even want to present it to the attendants at the luncheon if you desire. More than anything the gift is a thank you for all their hard work. Many times gifts are engraved and can range from a jewelry box to a key chain to a toasting flute. Whatever you decide make sure it reflects the fact that these special attendants are truly appreciated for their time and efforts spent on your behalf.

RENTALS & EVENT DESIGN personalize your wedding with decor Whether it’s a glamorous reception hall or a tent in your own backyard, it’s extremely common to rent both necessities and decorations for your wedding. Even if you’re working with a venue that already provides things like tables, chairs, linens, and place settings, rentals might still end up on your wedding checklist. Ask your site contact if you can see their items first hand, in case you want to upgrade. If you’re hosting a wedding where the venue isn’t outfitted with even the most basic furnishings, it’s up to you to procure every last champagne flute and salad fork. You can buy these pieces, but remember that if you own these items, it’s up to you to press the linens beforehand and wash the dishes afterward. Renting and working with a professional event designer will relieve a lot of stress. CHOOSING A RENTAL COMPANY Your site coordinator should be able to recommend their preferred vendor who has dressed your wedding space in the past. Or ask one of your other vendors if there’s a company they’d recommend. Meet in person with multiple rental companies in your area, and visit each company’s showroom so you can compare not only price, but quality. WHAT TO RENT No two brides will have the same rental needs for their wedding day. In general, these are the main furnishings you’ll need: tables, chairs, linens, plates, flatware, serving pieces, utensils, and glassware. Other large rentals might be a dance floor, band stage, portable toilets for an outdoor wedding, a free-standing bar, or lounge furniture. Also consider any heating or cooling needs, depending on your venue and time of year. Now let’s dig a little deeper into 56 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
your most basic rentals, as these are, for the most part, non-negotiable for all weddings. TABLES, CHAIRS & LINENS At most weddings, you’ll see round tables, long family-style tables, or a mix. You may also need buffet tables, a sweethearts table,

taller cocktail tables, and tables for things like cake and the guest book. If you’re not planning to show off the tables themselves, tablecloths for dinner and cocktail hour are a must — cloth napkins, too. If you have the choice between cotton and polyester fabric and the price is comparable, go for cotton; it lends a nicer, higher-quality feeling. Hosting a breezy outdoor reception? Make sure you have table weights, hidden tablecloth clips, and napkin rings. You’ll need seating not just for dinner, but possibly the ceremony and cocktail hour, too. Have high chairs or booster seats for any little ones. Chair PremierBrideFlorida.com

covers add color and texture to the space, however, stylish Chiavari chairs and fresh, white folding chairs work wonderfully, no covers necessary. PLATES, GLASSWARE & UTENSILS With all the delicious food at a wedding, it’s no wonder so many plates are required. You’ll need plates for cocktail hour, salad, dinner, and dessert. Always order about a dozen extra place settings in case a plate drops or shows up chipped. For glassware, you might need champagne flutes, glasses for water, beer, wine, cocktails, and cups for non-alcoholic drinks like coffee or tea. You need to keep the clean glassware coming, so either hire a dishwasher or work around it. Calculate three or four glasses per person, or make it clear that guests should reuse their one glass the entire evening. TIPS & TRICKS If you have to place your rental order before your final guest count is confirmed, it’s best to round up. Thoroughly read your rental agreement and the itemized list of goods coming your way. Make sure the amounts and times of drop-off and pick-up are all correct, and understand the state in which goods are to be returned. Do dishes have to be washed? Chairs folded? Also be aware of added fees, such as a service charge or tip. Ask for the company’s direct contact information for the day of your wedding, in the event that you need to get a hold of someone. FUN & DECORATIVE RENTALS Consider antiques, bird cages, vintage books or board games, chandeliers, a disco ball, neon or marquee lighting, vintage vases, or gilded mirrors. Want fun on a bigger scale? Popcorn machines, cotton candy makers, lawn games, photo booths with fun props, arcade games, or outdoor fire pits are just some of the ways to add an unforgettable touch to your wedding day — and they’re all available to rent. CEREMONY
A CREATIVE CEREMONY expressing individualism Creating unique weddings is a timely trend. The individuality of our age is an opportunity for eloquence at this most meaningful of ceremonies. Self-written vows or symbolic silence, music from tribal drums to electric guitars, festive clothing from leather to lace, and food from old family recipes to outrageous gourmet fare epitomize the one-of-a-kind wedding.
CEREMONY SERVICES
Traditions are not always bound by law. Your only legal requirement may be a marriage license obtained from the county clerk, and signed by the witnesses you choose. The person officiating need not be a minister or judge, and the vows may reflect your version of the commitment that marriage entails. Explore and amplify each other’s ideas. Chaplains and others with creative credentials can help customize your approach to this highly-symbolic ceremony. You will gain strength as a couple from every individualized aspect of your wedding. Originality in vows and guest participation, and details reflecting you as a couple, such as setting, dress, music and festivities, are a sign of sharing as a pair. With individual tastes intertwined, you will own your wedding, rather than it owning you. The process of creative exploration will also be one more way to know each other better and assume a unified identity. All weddings take courage. A creative ceremony makes a bolder statement still.

CHOOSING WHERE TO WED your ceremony location For centuries churches and synagogues have been the traditional choice for the sacred act of exchanging vows. Lending an air of reverence and dignity to even the most casual of ceremonies, these holy places have created the perfect setting for the formal commitment of marriage.

Congratulations
There are many unique options for couples who, for whatever reason, would prefer an alternate location. Consider holding the event at a non-denominational church or chapel. These locations usually have fewer rules and guidelines than other formal houses of worship, yet still provide a spiritual setting. Have the ceremony at the reception venue. Couples often choose this option as a convenience for their guests, minimizing the distance one must travel from ceremony to reception. Facilities that provide this option normally have separate areas for each event, or a plan for quickly converting the room. Sometimes places with the most personal significance make the best ceremony locations. For example, a park you walked through on your first date, the backyard where one of you grew up or a relative’s home where you enjoy spending time are all good choices.
BRITTANY & MIKE NOVEMBER 20, 2021
If you love the outdoors, consider holding your ceremony at a city park, the beach, a zoo, or even at the foot of a national landmark.f you’re a little on the daring and outrageous side, you might consider exchanging vows while sky diving from a plane, scuba diving, or in a hot air balloon. Whatever your preference, there is no right or wrong way to say “I do.”

CAKES + SWEETS
YOUR WEDDING CAKE a sweet ending to your special day Classic tiered cakes crowned with fresh flowers and porcelain toppers are never out of style. But there are lots of ways to freshen up tradition or even stray from it entirely, while still serving a sweet that is timeless, delicious, and uniquely you. DESSERT DECISIONS The look and feel of your sweet treat should match the rest of your wedding day, whether that’s classic elegance, rustic romance, whimsical fun, or megawatt glam. For a black tie wedding, a traditional cake is probably the way to go. As you style your dessert, think about what speaks to you as a couple. Are you both big movie buffs? Work your love of cinema into the cake with fondant rolls of film and famous characters perched on each tier. Did the groom propose in Paris? Find a baker who can craft a veritable Eiffel Tower of cupcakes. If you have a uniquely sweet idea, seek out a professional who can bring your vision to life. PremierBrideFlorida.com
TIERED STYLE Tiered wedding cakes are timeless. Textural elements or ruffles make for a cake with lots of dimension. Metallic luster, edible sequins, and gold leafing bring the glam, while a vibrant cake can draw out the color story of your wedding. Watercolor, geode, and sculptural designs are modern showstoppers. Craving a classic look? Painted and fondant monogramming and lace details are always an elegant way to go. DECORATIVE DISPLAYS While a lone tiered cake can be a stunner, there are lots of ways to feature your dessert table as décor. Instead of just one large wedding cake, consider a few smaller tiered cakes displayed at staggered heights, or one spotlight cake surrounded by cupcakes. You can even place a small cake at the center of each dinner table so that dessert doubles as a centerpiece. SUMMER/FALL 2021 • PREMIER BRIDE • 63
YOUR WEDDING CAKE
A LITTLE VARIETY It’s not uncommon to see a traditional cake paired with other sweets like cookies, truffles, or whole tables chock full of candy. At an outdoor or summer wedding, you might invite guests to make s’mores or build their own sundaes, complete with a well-stocked toppings bar. Do you have a donut obsession? A display brimming with deep-fried confections can be fun and whimsical. Or choose two desserts — one bride’s pick and one groom’s pick. For winter weddings, a coffee or hot chocolate bar with an array of toppings (marshmallows, whipped cream, peppermint sticks) is a cozy addition. FINDING A BAKERY Whatever you decide, take advantage of all food tastings. Go with your gut and choose the dessert you deem the tastiest, but
also factor in the bakery’s efficiency and professionalism. The baker should return your calls and emails in a timely manner, be flexible with your needs, and guarantee on-time service on your wedding day. PRICING Wedding cakes are typically priced by the slice, depending on the style, ingredients, size, and embellishments. Your reception site might also charge a plating fee to cut and serve the cake. THE FIRST BITE If you’re planning on a traditional cake cutting, make sure you have a knife and lifter ready to go. Traditionally, the bride grasps the knife with her right hand and the groom covers her hand with his as they cut the cake.

DAY OF A LIFETIME trust the professionals After months of fittings, tastings, and planning down to the very last detail, the day you’ve always dreamed of will seem to come and go in a blur. That’s why quality photography is a must! You want to be able to preserve the day and look back on everything that happened. Through pictures captured in a style that speaks to you, you can remember, relive, and cherish each moment for the rest of your lives. From falling in love with a dreamy online portfolio to the nitty gritty of contracts, let’s look at the process of finding a photographer that’s your perfect match. DEFINE YOUR STYLE Wedding photography is more than just documenting the event. The right photographer for you will capture the spirit of you as a couple, as well as your day. While other factors come into play when choosing a photographer, determining a style that speaks to you is the first order of business. Below are a few styles you might encounter as you start your search. Documentary: Candid, spontaneous, not styled or posed. Capturing moments as they happen; shots of decorative details, action, and people. This style is currently trending, as couples gravitate toward the effortless, unforced feel of documentary-style photos. Portrait: Classic and posed. Poses can be staged with traditional backdrops, such as a church alter, or more creative, holding hands in front of a vibrant city mural. Portrait doesn’t mean dull or dated, it just means the scenery and composition are thoughtfully arranged. Fine Art or Edgy & Bold: Dramatic and dreamlike, with interesting angles and 66 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
framing. Might use more muted tones for a film-like effect. These photos will represent the photographer’s vision, so if you love an artist’s unique style, fine art photography could be a great fit. Many photographers can do a blend of these styles, so don’t worry so much about being pigeon-holed into one or another. In the end, worry less about what a photographer calls their style and more about whether or not their work makes you happy. SHOP AROUND Once you’ve established your target style, it’s time to shop around. Collect referrals from friends, review local wedding magazines and websites, and check out bridal shows near you. Browsing local photographers’ websites, blogs, Facebook pages, and Instagram feeds is the quickest way to get a feel for the talent in your area. But beware of amateur photographers with limited real-world experience. Just because someone takes pretty iPhone photos, launches a website, and has a business card, that doesn’t make them a professional photographer. Choose someone with a strong portfolio of quality work, testimonials from happy clients, the right gear, wellthought-out contingency plans, and a professional attitude. MEET IN PERSON Once you’ve made a shortlist of potential photographers that seem to check all your boxes, it’s time to meet. Don’t underestimate this step! Even if your artistic visions align, it’s just as important that your personalities click. Remember, this person is shadowing you on your wedding day! PremierBrideFlorida.com

DAY OF A LIFETIME
Ask yourself how this person will mesh with your friends and family, too. They should be professional, respectful, and know when to hang back, while also being bold enough to go after great shots and draw natural expressions from your guests. QUESTION & EVALUATE Only meet with photographers within your budget. It’s disappointing to fall in love with a photographer’s work only to later discover their rates exceed your spending allowance. At these meetings, ask to see a complete album of a wedding shot in a similar venue or with a style similar to yours. If you’re only gauging a photographer’s work off their online portfolio, you might be seeing a highlight reel. It’s best to get the whole picture. Have a critical eye when assessing wedding albums: Did they capture all the shots you’re hoping for? Are the images clear? How’s the composition? Is the lighting blown out, too dark, or just right? Some photographers are more skilled at capturing low-light images, so consider the time, season, and location of your wedding and chose a professional whose talents suit your needs. GET IT IN WRITING Photography packages vary from one professional to the next, so it’s critical to find out what’s included, as well as the cost of any add-ons. A photography package may or may not include the following: second shooters, additional hours, high-res jpgs, photo albums, or engagement sessions. Some photographers offer such services a-la-carte, so you can choose only what’s of value to you. Remember that seeminglyaffordable wedding photography suddenly isn’t all that affordable if you have to pay an extra $1,000 just to get the photo files. Speaking of files, ask any potential photographers how they back up your 68 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
photos; if their answer doesn’t come swiftly and confidently, that can indicate a lack of professionalism. Also ask about their typical timeline for delivering proofs and final photos, and how you’ll receive them (small printed photos, an album, an online gallery, etc). Bear in mind that faster isn’t always better. Some professionals shoot weddings nonstop during the high season, then spend the next six months of the low season processing photos flawlessly. When you finally make your decision, get everything in writing. When is payment due? Will there be a backup camera? What’s the contingency plan should your photographer fall ill or have a family emergency? When will proofs be ready to view? Answering all of these questions up front will ease your mind and manage your expectations. DO A TRIAL RUN Nearly all photographers offer engagement shoots, either included in their wedding package prices or a-la-carte. If you’re on the fence about engagement photos, our advice is to go for it. Think of it like a trial run for your wedding day. An engagement session is a chance to get comfortable both with your photographer and together in front of the camera. CAPTURE MOMENTS THAT MATTER If there are friends and family that you want to be sure to snap a photo with or a particular time in the ceremony or reception that you want captured, it helps to put that in writing as well to help keep you and your photographer on track. Download our Ultimate Planner online at premierbride. com/planning where you’ll find a list of questions to ask your photographer and a checklist of can’t-miss moments.

A PICTURE PERFECT DAY finding a photographer that fits your style Wedding photography is more than just documenting the event – it’s about capturing the spirit of the couple and their day. Choose a photographer whose style matches yours. Formal or traditional: Posed, color photos of you, the groom, your respective families, and the wedding party; all the classic moments will be captured. Photojournalistic: Shot like a news event, capturing hundreds of candid moments and real emotions; more black and white photos for a timeless feel. Artistic: Special effects used to create dramatic, one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Many photographers offer a mix of these styles, so browse friends’ wedding albums, and surf professionals’ websites and blogs to find what speaks to you.

RESEARCH PHOTOGRAPHERS Once you’ve established your style, it’s time to shop around. Collect referrals from friends, review wedding resources like Premier Bride, and scope out local photographers’ websites and blogs. Make a short list of potential photographers that specialize in the style you desire and that suits your budget. Then set up a consultation. EVALUATE YOUR OPTIONS Do I like their work? Make sure you see examples of individual photos and complete wedding albums so you know what to expect in the end. Some larger studios employ more than one photographer; find out exactly who will be shooting your wedding.

A PICTURE PERFECT DAY
Do our personalities mesh? Of all your wedding vendors, the photographer is the one you’ll be working with most closely on your big day; it’s important that your personalities click. Am I staying within my budget? It’s disappointing to fall in love with a photographer’s work only to later discover their rates exceed your spending allowance. Do your best to meet only with photographers you can afford.
Parents’ Albums: These will include prints that have been specially selected to create a custom photo book for each family. Prints: Don’t underestimate how many extra prints you might want, as this will definitely impact your budget. Proofs: Ask your photographer how many proofs you will get and in what format. GET THE SPECIFICS In your consultations, ask: When is a deposit required? Will there be a backup camera? When will proofs be ready to view? Will online ordering be available for your guests?
Bride & Groom’s Album: These vary in size, color, quality, and price; be sure to compare the size and photo quantity that various photographers offer.

Rebecca is amazing! Due to COVID19, we had changed our original wedding date, but then 5 days before we decided to do an intimate ceremony at our church. She was so easy to work with! Very flexible and understanding. She did such an amazing job. You can tell she truly wanted to capture every moment. She made us feel comfortable and we were able to keep a smile on our face. WEDDING ALBUMS holding onto memories The entrance of the bride, the vows at the altar, your first married kiss, first dance, cake-cutting, joyful smiles and a champagne toast: your photographer will capture these and other memorable images on your wedding day. Your wedding album will hold these cherished family keepsakes, preserving and showing the memories of that special day.

So make sure it is as special as the photographs it preserves. You should make the decision on what style of wedding album you want when you first make arrangements to retain a photographer. Most wedding photographers include the cost of both your and your parent’s wedding albums in their overall package and samples should be on hand for your review. There are a variety of pre-made album styles to accommodate every budget. You can also customize a wedding album from a manufacturer or engage the services of a bookbinder to create a handmade wedding album. Wedding album manufacturers offer thousands of choices of covers, spine sizes, and mounting configurations that will enable you and your photographer to construct a unique wedding album. If you want to preserve your wedding pictures, they can be put in a library-bound album and permanently sealed for better archival quality.

medieval tapestries to the wavy iridescence of silk moiré, as well as other durable man-made materials. By having your wedding album painstakingly produced by a bookbinder using hand-made papers and hand-stitched covers and spines, your choices increase according to your imagination. The art of custom bookbindery uses the age-old techniques of hand stitching, hand turning and embossing using such materials as strong, hard-wearing calfskin or hand-tooled silk to produce beautiful and enduring wedding albums. A skilled bookbinder can create an original design destined to become a highly prized family possession. Whether your wedding album is manufactured or handmade, acid-free pages and tissues rather than conventional matting are a must. Some matting production processes use acid in their paper, and such matting will degrade over time and chemically damage photographs. Acid-free pages and tissues can guarantee the durability of your memories.

Some time after your nuptials your photographer will send you the proofs or enlarged contact sheets of your wedding photos. Although these copies may not be perfectly printed or color-corrected, they will be clear enough for you to begin to choose the photos you want to include in your wedding album. Remember, you’re telling a story in pictures. Keep your album interesting with multi-size picture presentation, matching a large picture on one page with a facing page of smaller photos. You could try pairing tight shots with wide perspectives, or mixing and matching black and whites with color photographs. Some couples choose to have two wedding albums, one for more formal portraits and one for candid shots. Once you have assembled the pictures in a meaningful order, store them elegantly and request album boxes from your manufacturer or a custom box from your bookmaker.

HAVING FUN WITH PHOTOS unique ideas for your wedding Even though weddings are a testament of very personal love, sometimes the whole day can seem like a cookie-cutter type deal. But there’s almost nothing more personal than a photo, so use those to make your day one of a kind. For a couple of your photos at the wedding or reception, add a little personality by wearing fun sunglasses, a hat from your favorite sports team, or a very trendy item that might look hideous when you look back on the photo 15 years from now. The idea is to incorporate your personalities, and have some fun! Surround your engagement photo with a large, smooth, white mat, and display it with nice pens at the reception
for people to sign. You’ll have a personal touch around a beautiful photo of the day. Especially at huge reception halls and banquet rooms, the place can seem large and impersonal. By adding pictures from your parents and grandparents weddings framed nicely throughout the room, the room will become a little more intimate. It’s also a nice way to honor deceased relatives or long-standing marriages. Here’s a fun, crowd-pleasing, party-enhancing idea: rent a photo booth to have at the reception. Your guests will have a great time entering the booth, posing for photos both lovely and silly.

BOUDOIR FOR BRIDES six things you need to know As a bride-to-be, this might be the best time to try boudoir photography. Whether you’re still flirting with the idea, or ready to go for it, here are six things you should know that makes this session a little different than your family pictures. Once in a Lifetime. For many women, this is a one-time event, so make the most of it. Plan your outfits and accessories well in advance. It’s a good idea to schedule a hair appointment too.

Know what you want. Are you looking for image files? A photo album? Most women don’t choose to display the images on the wall so there are less options; check with your photographer to see what they offer. Choose the Right Outfits. There’s no right and wrong here; choose outfits that have the most meaning to you and your husband-to-be. Consider wearing his work clothes or incorporating hobbies. Pairing sexy and sporty gives you a great combination. Accessorize. This is the fun part. Bring hats, scarves, shawls, jewelry, sunglasses, feathers, umbrellas or even his power tools! The options are endless, but choose items you enjoy most.
SALEEMA & DAVID
It’s Also for You. Yes, this will be the best wedding gift ever (and you might have a hard time topping it in the future), but a boudoir session is also for you. Pick outfits you enjoy and are comfortable in, and remember to relax and enjoy your session.

HIRE A PROFESSIONAL new on the horizon If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video must be worth a million. With a professional videographer by your side, you can relive the sights and sounds of your wedding day for years to come. These memories in motion are priceless, and it’s worthwhile to have it done right. PROFESSIONALS & ARTISTS Professional videographers have dramatically improved the quality of wedding videos in recent years. They have the technology, talent, and time necessary to produce videos with excellent quality, clear audio, crisp visuals, and sharp editing. A good videographer is an artist who will remain inconspicuous throughout the day, yet find a way to capture intimate, uninhibited moments of you and your guests. These days, creativity knows no bounds. The art of videography has experienced a sort of revolution in recent years, with professionals 78 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
dedicating their time and talents strictly to video. Today’s filmmakers use the latest technology and storytelling techniques to create stunning and highly-personalized wedding films. Choose a videographer with a style that speaks to you, whether it’s classic and even-paced, quick and contemporary, or even a little edgy. DRONE ON There are all kinds of tools available to videographers that offer Hollywood-style special effects, but drones certainly offer some of the most exciting opportunities to get creative. They can offer a sweeping, cinematic mood and breathtaking aerial views. While drone technology can be thrilling, it’s not without its boundaries. Make sure your videographer is licensed for drone flight. A drone pilot’s license is required by the FAA. If your videographer has a drone, make sure they’re aware of the rules before you hire them! SPECIALS & SERVICES In addition to the final wedding video, some videographers offer same-day services such as rush editing of wedding day highlights or photo and video montages to show at your reception. Projectors for these shows are recommended and may also be available through your videographer. These upgradeable video services are especially fun and could add an extra-special touch to your celebration. If you’re a high-tech couple, put your videographer to work before the wedding. Work together to create a video save-thedate for the folks on your guest list. You can save money by uploading this video to your wedding website, then sending friends and family an online invitation to view it. Video invites are modern, fun, personal, and, if worked in to your videography package, a potential money-saver. CHOOSING A VIDEOGRAPHER When researching professional videographers in your area, scope out their websites and social media accounts to get a taste of their style. If you can only find a short sample, ask the videographer if you can see a full-length version. This is critical, since short snippets shown on a videographer’s website tend to be more of a highlight reel. Have you ever seen a terrible movie that had an awesome trailer? It’s just like that. What really matters is the finished product, so make sure to base your decision on a final video rather than a teaser. Pay close attention to make sure the film meets your expectations in terms of video detail and quality. Things to consider when viewing a sample video include the clarity and stability of the picture, as well as the videographer’s ability to smoothly edit and transition the material. Other things to keep in mind: audio, color, and emotional PremierBrideFlorida.com
connections. Let’s break it down with a video evaluation checklist. VIDEOGRAPHY BUDGET Quality videography services can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $8,000. While that sounds like quite a sum, remember that your videographer will spend six to ten hours editing each hour of film. If they’re filming during the entire wedding day on multiple cameras, do the math. Why does it take so long? The process includes color matching, audio syncing, setting music, syncing footage from multiple angles, editing periods of silence, and adding transitions. Taking into account all of the professional equipment, experience, and time spent, it’s not surprising that the fee coincides with what you’d pay a photographer. When you finally choose your videographer, be sure to ask to see a copy of the contract and make sure you understand all of the ins and outs of specific costs. BUDGET TIP If your budget doesn’t allow for much now, it’s still worthwhile to invest in a quality videographer’s bare-bones package. You can always upgrade your package later, but securing great videography talent for your wedding date and time is a crucial first step. MEMORIES IN MOTION We all know the one big reason to invest in a wedding day video: You’ll have it forever to enjoy as a couple. So too will any guests who couldn’t make it to the celebration; having a video to share with family and friends who weren’t present on your wedding day will be a wonderful treat. And should there be kids in your future, think what a kick they’ll get out of watching your video. A once-in-a-lifetime day deserves the once-in-a-lifetime movie treatment — everything from vows and venues to drone footage and dance moves preserved forever. SUMMER/FALL 2021 • PREMIER BRIDE • 79

MUSIC
FACE THE MUSIC the soundtrack to your wedding day Imagine a wedding without a soundtrack. Sounds crazy, right? From moving songs at the ceremony to classy cocktail hour tunes to the late-night dance jams, music does so much to set the tone at a wedding. Here are the many ways you might incorporate music into your wedding day, and some helpful tips for ensuring that your soundtrack goes off without a hitch. CEREMONY MUSIC What have you always envisioned for the soundtrack to your ceremony? A vocalist? String quartet? Solo pianist? When weighing your options for ceremony musicians, consider your vision, but also look to your wedding’s style and venue; make sure there is harmony between the location and the music you choose. Think back to past weddings you’ve attended. What did you like about the music for each ceremony? What didn’t work so well? Did you cry like a baby when friends of bride played a charming, acoustic tune? Did you cringe when the groom’s cousin, even with the best of intentions, sang entirely off-key? Your guests could likely react the same way, so choose wisely! Once you and your fiancé have some ideas in mind, check out local musicians. Visit

bridal shows, review bridal publications and online sources like premierbride.com, or ask for referrals from recently married friends or from your ceremony officiant. You could also work with an experienced talent or booking agency that offers convenient, one-stop-shopping for all your wedding music needs. Narrow down your options, and arrange meetings to hear your musicians and singers in person before signing any contracts. After you’ve secured musicians for your ceremony, they can help you decide on what songs to include. Most musicians who specialize in weddings have a lot of valuable experience and will be a great resource for song suggestions. Your ceremony officiant will also be helpful in guiding your musical selections. Also, you may have to have the music approved by the officiant, depending on your ceremony location. COCKTAILS AND DINNER MUSIC Background music is a must for bringing romance to the latter part of your wedding day. Conversation is key during cocktails and dinner, so the tunes should set the mood, but not intrude. You have three main options: use the musicians that played during your ceremony, use the band or DJ

that will be playing at your reception, or hire entirely different musicians. If you decide to have live music, some solid options include chamber music, classical or acoustic guitar, or a jazz ensemble. Each of these offers subtle entertainment without overpowering the scene of mixing and mingling. A seasoned pianist can also be a fun choice if he or she can play a wide range of musical styles and take requests! If you go with your reception’s DJ or band, make sure they keep it on the softer side. You might even want to make a list of songs to be played during this time to keep the soundtrack on, well, track.
talented professionals, and with the tips included here, you’ll be able to confidently select an excellent entertainer and selection of dance tunes for your big day. First and foremost, ask yourself: live band or DJ? While there are pros and cons to each, it always comes down to personal taste and budget. Start researching musicians early in the wedding planning process. This way, once you find someone you like, availability is less likely to be an issue. Live music gives the evening a sort of festive energy and is a wonderful option if your budget allows. The key is finding a band that caters to weddings. These musicians offer versatility and will appeal to guests of all ages. Keep in mind that any live entertainment will require breaks, so find a solution that ensures music is always playing. If the band is large enough, it’s possible the band members can stagger their breaks so that someone is always playing. Or you can always configure a portable music-streaming and speaker hook-up to play some of your favorites that the band might not attempt. In terms of expense, a live band will almost always cost more than a DJ. Keep this rule in mind: if you can’t afford a good wedding band, hire a DJ. A DJ will be more cost-effective and can offer an almost infinite variety of music – truly something for everyone. Bonus: no breaks! Some keys to finding happiness in a DJ:

garter toss, etc.) you do or do not wish to include. Decide on the details ahead of time; make a “do not play” list of any songs you simply can’t stand and a “must play” list of songs you don’t want to miss. All things considered, whether you go for a band or a DJ, your dance party will be a guaranteed success as long as you treat your guests to a wide variety of music. From Frank Sinatra to Whitney Houston to Béyonce, diversity is key in playing a little something for everyone. THE NITTY GRITTY Consider your ceremony and reception site and how this might impact your choice of music and entertainment. Communicate with your site manager so you’re aware of any restrictions and so that he/she is aware of your plans ahead of time. If your entertainment has never performed at your chosen ceremony or reception site before, ask the site manager when they can visit the venue to make sure it meets their needs in terms of space, electricity, and lighting. As with other wedding vendors, make sure the ins and outs of your agreement with your musicians is very clear and in writing. This includes payment, start and end times, fees for playing overtime, alternate plans if a musician is sick the day of your wedding, etc. If any of your vendors don’t use a contract, put all the details into a document and send one to the vendor and keep one for your records. Confirm all the details with your musicians about one week prior to your celebration. Once you’ve done your homework, hired musicians for each stage of your wedding day, and worked out the details, you can rest easy. That is, until it’s time to start practicing your dance moves.

RECEPTIONS FLOWERS
FLOWERS AND MORE design a beautiful wedding
FLOWERS
Through decades of evolving wedding traditions and styles, certain things remain constant like a bride’s white dress and gorgeous flowers to adorn the day. Though we think of flowers as an accent, they’re so much more at a wedding. Flowers help define a wedding’s colors, theme, and mood. WHERE TO START Without even knowing it, your floral research has probably already begun. Any time you admire a blooming centerpiece, dreamily eye flowers at the local farmers’ market, or pin a stunning bouquet to your wedding Pinterest board, you’re developing your own taste in flowers. Keep doing this as you prepare to meet your florist. Create a flowers-only Pinterest board to gather images that you love, and maybe some that you don’t. It helps to have lots to show your potential florist. It’s also critical to have a set budget. FINDING A FLORIST If possible, book a florist 8 to 10 months before your wedding. Select up to four florists to meet with in-person as any more would be overwhelming. Your goal is to find someone who is organized, professional, and whose style and personality meshes with your own. Have a budget in mind. Know your wedding colors and ceremony and reception locations. If you have a picture of your wedding dress and any fabric swatches from the bridesmaid dresses, bring those along as well. The right florist will take all of these elements (your style, venue, and budget) and create something special just for you. Florists know which flowers will and won’t wilt in the sun, which PremierBrideFlorida.com

FLOWERS AND MORE
are best for indoors, and which will work better in a centerpiece rather than in a bouquet. Foster open communication from the start and hire someone you can trust. FOR YOU AND YOUR WEDDING PARTY You’ll first want to determine the look of your bridal bouquet. All other floral pieces will take their cue from this piece. This is the perfect opportunity to bring your style and personality to the forefront. Full, rounded bouquets are gorgeous, as are cascading bouquets which are a classic choice making a modern comeback. Today’s cascades are a loose, more natural style of bouquet. Also on trend are dried floral elements combined with fresh blooms for gorgeous texture and dimension. Then there’s the wedding party flowers: Just as bridesmaids might mix-and-match dresses, you can also mix-and-match bouquets and boutonnieres. Remember to also consider corsages and boutonnieres for parents, grandparents, and other important people. These miniature arrangements have been updated in recent years. Corsages often take shape on metal cuff bracelets, while a spray of small flowers makes an easy pocket boutonniere. FOR THE CEREMONY If you’re having your ceremony in a place of worship, check with your officiant for any restrictions before finalizing the flowers. Consider aisle adornments and arrangements — such as an arch, swag, or spray — to frame your vows. Oftentimes ceremony flowers can play double duty by adorning the ceremony as well as the reception hall. FOR THE RECEPTION There’s an endless array of options for floral reception centerpieces: elegant vases 86 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
filled with cut flowers, footed pedestals brimming with blooms, glorious bunches of wildflowers, assorted small vases with single stems, nature-inspired elements, and so much more. You may even think beyond the tabletops themselves in favor of hanging floral installations. Use your imagination to incorporate flowers into one-of-a-kind centerpieces and scene-setters that reflect your style and your wedding’s theme. Keep in mind that the height of the arrangements shouldn’t get in the way of conversation. The key is to either make the arrangements low enough to talk over or high enough to talk under. A riser or vase that is about 24 to 32 inches will elevate above the conversation as long as the vase is narrow enough to talk around. If your budget allows, consider adding floral flourishes throughout the reception hall to tie everything together. Thinking big, a gorgeous floral backdrop certainly makes for a fabulous photo-op. A ceremony arch could even double as a sort of floral photo booth during the reception. On a smaller scale, your florist might sprinkle flower petals on serving trays or trim the dessert table with an extra flourish. Simple greenery placed throughout the venue is also a lovely way to bring the outdoors in. Run any and all ideas past your florist so they can help you refine your vision, stay within your budget, and create a beautiful, memorable ambiance. FLOWERS IN ALL SEASONS Everything has its season, and flowers are no exception. In fact, seasonality plays an even bigger role when it comes to florals. One of the most important things for you and your florist to factor into your choice of flowers is the season in which your wedding falls. You’ll find flowers that bloom during the month of your wedding will be more PremierBrideFlorida.com

affordable and will last longer than those that are out of season. Let’s look at some popular flowers in each season to kickstart your search. Winter: Amaryllis, Casablanca Lily, Freesia, Gerbera Daisy, Heather Holly, Narcissus, Poinsettia, Rose, Stephanotis. Spring: Peony, Sweet Pea, Lilac, Ranunculus, Hydrangea, Tulip, Calla Lily, Magnolia. Summer: Anemone, Azalea, Camellia, Daffodil, French Tulip, Hyacinth, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Mimosa, Pansy, Primrose, Violet. Fall: Celosia (Cockscomb), Chinese Lantern, Chrysanthemum, Crosnia, Dahlia, Statice. Year-round: Baby’s Breath, Calla Lilies, Carnation, Chrysanthemum, Cymbidium Orchid, Daisy, Dendrobium, Orchid, Freesia, Gardenia, Gerbera Daisy, Gladiolus,
Hydrangeas, Iris, Lily, Rose, September Aster, Snapdragon, Stephanotis, Tuberose. KEEPING IT CLASSIC No doubt roses are the most widely used flower in wedding arrangements. Florists rarely deal with fancy roses. These are most commonly found in supermarkets and they tend to wilt rapidly. Roses that are of top quality will last the longest. Traditional bouquets are all white and can combine an array of blossoms that are unique in shape and size. It’s also possible to have a vibrantly colored bouquet that still reflects classic styles and shapes. Whatever your wedding’s theme and style, by collaborating with a professional florist, you’re sure to have the flowers of your dreams. Work together, but always remember to trust your florist’s expertise. In doing so, your wedding flowers will be the envy of all.

WEDDING COLORS the meaning of what you choose You would think it would be easy to choose the right wedding colors for your big day right? Perhaps you want that periwinkle blue that has been your favorite since you were a little girl. Or what if black is your favorite color; is that appropriate for your wedding color in the middle of August?
JORDAN & NICK NOVEMBER 1, 2021 CHRISTINE AUSTIN PHOTOGRAPHY
Congratulations
The wedding colors that you inevitably decide on will play a big part in setting the mood of your wedding and theme. For example, a beach wedding might be perfect with natural colors that complement the sea and sky. Overall, when you choose your wedding colors you are also choosing the look and feel of the bridesmaid dresses, the flowers, the invitations and even the look of the ceremony and reception. Start with a base color followed by lighter and darker shades in the same color family. You can also choose two or three colors that complement one another easily. When you do pick the colors for your wedding make sure you can get the bridesmaid dresses in this color as well, even before you begin ordering the other necessities. For flowers, if you must have a certain type, then you can work around the flower colors to determine the final color choices. Remember, too, that the colors you choose, no matter the season, should not clash with the church or banquet facility.

WEDDING INVITATIONS the first impression
INVITATIONS
It’s best to find a qualified local professional to act as your go-to person for all paper goods and etiquette questions. If you choose to purchase online, give yourself some extra time in case there are any problems that require shipping back and forth. Before you choose a style of invitation, it’s crucial to know some of the broad themes of your wedding: casual vs. formal, bold colors vs. soft hues, etc. Knowing these key details will help you find or create invitations to reflect the style of your day. If possible, order invitations and other wedding stationery six or more months before the big day. Formal invitations should be sent six to eight weeks before the wedding, with save-the-dates going out months in advance. CREATIVE THINKING While formal invitations complete with calligraphy and foil-lined envelopes are never out of style, the breadth of invite design options has grown immensely. Many brides hire a graphic designer or artist to add a personalized, handmade touch. The use of watercolor and illustrated elements is also growing to such an extent that many stationery companies now have a resident artist on staff. PAPER PARTS & PIECES Wedding invitations typically consist of several parts: a ceremony card, a reception card, a response card with its stamped/ addressed envelope, a card with directions to the ceremony/reception and hotel information for out-of-town guests, and an inner and outer envelope. The rules aren’t hard and fast, however, you can really think

outside the box with your design if that suits the style of your wedding day. INVITATION WORDING Traditionally, whoever is hosting (read: paying for) the wedding will be listed first on the invitation. But it’s best to work this out on a case-by-case basis with open communication between the couple, the bride’s parents, and the groom’s parents. Some couples today who are paying for the majority of their wedding say “Mary Bride and John Groom, together with their families, request the honor of your presence at their marriage.” An experienced professional will be able to assist you more with wording.

ADDRESSING ADVICE To address the envelopes, you can run them through your printer in a beautiful font, handwrite them yourself, or hire a handletterer to do the job for you. Avoid using labels as they just don’t convey an elegance that a wedding deserves. Include your return address on the back of the envelope. Placing it on the back is less crowded and leaves room for the guest’s address to shine on the front. You can handwrite your return address, or in this case, printed labels are an acceptable shortcut. STAMP STUFF Before you send all of your invites, take one to the post office. Have it weighed to confirm the postage cost in case it weighs more than the normal envelope or is an odd shape. The last thing you want is for all of your invitations to be returned “insufficient postage!” When you get the green light, pop those gorgeous invitations in the mail and take a deep breath. Your wedding is officially underway!

LIMOS, TROLLEYS AND MORE TR ANSPORTATION
Here are some tips to make your transport as fun, affordable and memorable as the rest of your day. First decide how many you’re moving. Do you want just the bride and groom in a car, or the entire wedding party? Once you make those decisions, start shopping around based on size. Whatever you decide on, keep safety in mind for when revelers are bouncing from place to place. LIMOS A limo can be booked for a day, so you could get a ride to pick you up at the house and deliver you to the ceremony and reception. Most companies have a minimum for their services, so think about the most costeffective way to go if you want something for before and after the reception. Many options exist for limos. A formal seats four, but a stretch can seat as many as 10. For larger parties, sport utility models like the Hummer and Explorer are popular and flashy. Larger models are often posh, with decorative interiors. CATCH THE COACH For larger parties, a party bus or luxury coach is a great way to travel. It’s got all the amenities of a luxury limousine, but they’ll seat up to 10 people comfortably. Or, for bigger parties, a passenger coach or party bus can seat 21-49 people. The size and type of coach will determine the hourly rate. Depending on the size of your party it may make sense to hire two coaches. TAKING THE TROLLEY A picturesque alternative is a trolley. They’ll generally accommodate between 20 and 35 people, so it’s great for larger parties.

TRANSPORTATION LIMOS, TROLLEYS, AND MORE
With their old world charm, they’ll send a lovely, elegant touch to this wedding day detail. Since most have outdoor decks, these are especially fun if small towns so you can take a peek outside and watch onlookers wave at newlyweds.
Congratulations
UNIQUE ALTERNATIVES Some new couples might opt for something more personal or creative. A horse-drawn carriage is a romantic, vintage option, especially if you can decorate it with your wedding colors. Vintage cars are also great photo ops. An antique Rolls Royce or a ’69 Mustang are chic. Ride in style like the royal couple did in a decorated navy soft-top Aston Martin Volante. Or, as with everything else in the wedding, make sure the transportation connects to YOU. Maybe you met at a Harley rally – ride off on your twin Hogs! Or maybe you share a love of mountain biking – don’t be afraid to wheel over on a tandem together. DOWN TO DETAILS Make sure to confirm booking well in advance of your wedding dates. And don’t be afraid to ask for a test drive! Look for these in a written contract:

LUXURY COACHES alternate transportation Usually when you think wedding transportation, you think limousine. Limousine service has been a bridal standard for years and still continues to be a wonderful option. Depending on the location and size of your wedding, however, you may choose the newest alternative in wedding transportation--a luxury coach. Comfortable, mobile and spacious, it’s the ultimate in luxury.

A luxury coach has a lot more going for it than luxury, though. It’s the perfect solution to a ceremony site without a changing room. You and your attendants can enjoy your time together as you get ready in the plush surroundings. After the ceremony the bridal party can enjoy a private celebration with the bride and groom on the way to the reception. Parking is another obstacle that the luxury coach easily overcomes. If the only downside to your dream reception is the price your guests will pay to park, eliminate the problem. Transport them from the ceremony to the reception in a passenger coach. These coaches generally seat 2149 passengers. If you hire more than one transport you can accommodate those guests who need to leave at an early hour. Coaches are also a great solution for remote locations or those with limited access. As do the majority of limousine companies, passenger and luxury coach companies require a minimum number of hours. The size and type of coach determine the hourly rate, which is generally comparable to that of a limousine. PremierBrideFlorida.com
WEDDING EXPOS
WEDDING EXPOS made easy Bridal shows can sometimes feel overwhelming but with a little planning, they can save you money, provide outstanding ideas and let you sample tasty treats. It can be a great one stop shopping experience if you go prepared. The vendors are local wedding professionals, ready and willing to answer your questions. Here are a few tips on how to get the most out of your local bridal show.
WEDDING E XPOS
DRESS FOR THE OCCASION Wear comfortable shoes! You’re going to be walking quite a bit. You don’t want to leave early because your achy feet give you no other choice. BRING LABELS Print up labels with your name, address, wedding date and email address. This will save you a lot of time when you sign up for all the prizes usually given out at shows. Plus, the information will be legible. PLAN IN ADVANCE First of all, you need to have a budget planned so you have a general idea of what you’ll be spending on each product and service for your wedding. Know what is most important to you, where you might be willing to have a little flexibility on the cost versus items that you’re not as passionate about. VISIT HERE FIRST Remember, some wedding service providers can only do one or two weddings a day because they are one or two person operations. These providers can include videographers, DJ’s, banquet facilities, decorators, photographers and wedding consultants. One of your first questions should be if your wedding date is available. BRING YOUR CALENDAR If interested, make an appointment for a follow-up consultation after the show. Vendors want to talk to you but they also need to respond to other couples at the show as well. You probably won’t get their full attention at the show unless there are multiple people working the booth, so be sure to make an appointment to get some one on one time. READY TO MAKE DECISIONS If you’re comfortable and ready to make a decision, show specials can really make it worth your while! Many vendors determine if it’s a good show for them based on how many signed agreements they get. ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE Relax and enjoy the experience. These wedding professionals spend time and money to display their work and services. Take your time and don’t be afraid to “enter” the booth area. Look, touch and really see what is offered or get ideas. Vendors love brides in their booths. TALK TO THE VENDORS If a vendor catches your eye, don’t be shy! Just say hello to break the ice, followed by, “are you available for my wedding date?”, and the vendor will usually know how to get the ball rolling from there. MATERIAL HANDED OUT If a vendor is offering handout information you’re at all interested in, take one. You can review this information at your leisure once you get home. DON’T BE AFRAID TO MOVE ON Follow your gut instinct. If you’re put off by a service or certain vendor, move along. They’re not for you. Have fun!

HELLO GORGEOUS BE AUT Y
beauty tips, makeup musts & more On your wedding day, it’s all eyes on the bride. From makeup to hair to nails, every blushing bride, mother-of-the bride/groom and bridesmaid wants to look their absolute best on the day of the wedding. We’ve got tips for the day itself and beautification plans to implement months before the big day. BEAUTY 101 What’s the difference between a makeup artist, cosmetologist, and esthetician? A makeup artist is the person a bride turns to on the day of her wedding, enhancing her own natural beauty. Cosmetologists do makeup, as well as, sometimes, skincare, nail care, and hair styling. Manicures and facials fall in the realm of cosmetology. Estheticians take things one step further. They perform services such as skincare treatments and hair removal that makeup artists and cosmetologists may not be licensed to.

Each of these beauty professionals — whether in the weeks and months leading up to your wedding, or on the wedding day itself — can help you look your best. These pros can also provide you with great information, advice, and tips that will last a lifetime — a beauty investment! And when it comes to hair, a great hairstylist can help you create a look that complements your facial features, headpiece, and veil — and do so in a way designed to stay set through the last dance.

GET GLOWING A great time to focus on healthy, glowing skin is when your wedding is still months away. If you’re concerned about the health and appearance of your skin, consider a visit to a dermatologist, for bigger problems, or an esthetician, for minor issues. Facials are a must PremierBrideFlorida.com
BEAUTY HELLO GORGEOUS
for all skin types. Regular treatments result in refined pores, smoother facial lines, healed blemishes, and a more radiant complexion. For full-body beautification, body waxing is a good place to start. This is one of the longestlasting forms of hair removal. Your legs will be smooth and free of razor stubble. If you’re of the opinion that a white gown’s best accessory is sun-kissed skin, you’re not alone. But before hitting the tanning beds or getting a spray-tan, consider that it’s so easy to come away from the tanning salon looking either beet red or pumpkin orange. Proceed with caution.
practice, not on the day of your wedding! Keep the makeup on throughout the trial day and see how it lasts. How does it look at two, five, and even eight hours later? Is it easy enough to touch up? The key to wedding makeup isn’t caking it on, but rather looking like a more polished version of yourself. Define your eyebrows with a pencil and try fake eyelashes so that your eyes really pop in photos. Try highlighting key places, a bold lip color, or using a primer under your foundation, lipstick, and eyeshadow so that it lasts longer. Waterproof mascara recommended!
HAIR DO’S AND DON’TS When choosing a hairstyle, consider your gown, the formality of your wedding, your personal style, your hair type and texture, and your face shape. Generally speaking, if your gown is elaborate, opt for a simpler hairstyle to avoid looking overdone.
NAILS AND BROWS Regular manicures in the one or two months before your wedding day will get your nails in perfect shape. As a rule, it’s best to avoid really trendy nail polish colors. Play it safe and go with a classic, neutral color, so you’ll have no regrets years down the road.
An updo is a classic way to go and is ideal for showing off a dramatic neckline. If you’re a trendy girl, try braids, hair extensions, or a tousled bohemian look. Just be cautious of overly-trendy styles, as you risk looking back at your photos and saying “What was I thinking?!”
Have your eyebrows professionally shaped at least two weeks before the wedding. If you’ve never done this before, you’ll be amazed at how different you look with well-groomed brows! Some people may experience a red, rash-like reaction, so doing this early enough gives you time to recover if it happens to you. In the end, always remember that a bride’s best beauty secret is her smile!
If you’re considering any drastic changes to your hairstyle, make the change at least a couple of months before the wedding. That way, if you don’t like it, you have plenty of time to make changes or figure out how to style it to your best advantage. Consult your hair stylist four to six weeks before the wedding to find the right look for you, and be sure to show the stylist a photo of your gown. MAKEUP MUSTS Whether you hire a pro to do your makeup, have a friend do it, or do it yourself, do a trial run before the wedding. Now is the time to PremierBrideFlorida.com

YOUR DREAM DRESS making it a reality Even from a very young age, most girls daydream about their wedding dress. We’re constantly bombarded with movies, TV, and photos of picture-perfect, iconic brides. And what makes these brides iconic? The dress! Although finding the right dress for your wedding day isn’t as easy as daydreaming, we’re here to help with these bridal gown basics. GOWN STYLES Bridal attire ranges from extravagant princess gowns to tailored suits. That’s right, there’s no rule that says a bride must wear a fancy gown. This is the age when brides dress for their own comfort level and personal style, but more polished. Even so, most brides stick with a dress. The strapless style still reigns supreme, but the market has expanded in recent years to include gowns with all manner of straps, sleeves, and accessories. You’ll see many dresses that are modest in the front and dramatic in the back. Dresses are also belted, have convertible or removable cap sleeves, and come in an array of bold and muted colors in addition to just white. Some brides are even wearing more than one dress, such as a traditional gown for the ceremony and a short dress for the reception, so they can comfortably dance the night away.
that create gorgeous gowns with price points that suit the mainstream bride. The professionals at your local bridal salon will be able to help you determine which fabric and details fit within your budget.
FABRIC & AFFORDABILITY Satin, tulle, and lace are the most commonly used fabrics for wedding gowns, and the type of fabric you choose will greatly affect the price. If you’re dreaming of intricate, hand-stitched, Italian lace with delicate beading, the cost is going to rise. But these days, it’s entirely possible to find designers
STARTING THE SEARCH Start by gathering ideas. Bridal magazines, designer websites, and Pinterest are a great source as you start the hunt for your wedding dress. Compile the styles you like that suit the mood of your wedding. For example, is your wedding venue a rustic lodge, classic ballroom, or ultra-modern

YOUR DREAM DRESS
loft? Ask yourself, “What kind of dress makes sense for the activities of the day?” Also think about what kind of dress makes sense for you. Weddings are no longer strictly adhering to tradition, and brides are embracing this new mainstream by crafting weddings that are truly a reflection of themselves, and that goes for bridal style, too. If you’re not into princess gowns, wear a white jumpsuit and sassy heels. If your wedding’s on a beach, don a knee-length sheath and comfy sandals. Keep your vision of your true self in mind as you search for ideas. Then, make an appointment at your local bridal salon. Invite a trusted team of family and friends to join you. You don’t need an army, just a few close people you can count on to tell you the truth. Sadly, not all gowns will be figure-flattering. Share your ideas for the type of gown you want with the professionals at the bridal salon, but keep an open mind. Ideally you should start visiting salons anywhere from nine months to a year before your wedding to allow enough time. If you’re in a rush, 6 months or less, tell your consultant immediately. SHAPES & SIZES Remember that no two brides are shaped alike, therefore, no dress will ever accent your silhouette exactly the same way it does

another bride’s body. When the time comes to try on gowns, explore a myriad of styles and cuts to figure out what works for you. You might be surprised! Note that bridal salons often carry only one sample size of each gown. Try on these gowns even if they’re not your size. Consultants are there to help you get in and out of sample sizes. If you’re nervous about the sizes available at your local bridal salon, give them a call. Talking to a representative will ease your mind, and you’ll find that whether you’re full-figured or very petite, there have never been more options to accommodate brides of all shapes and sizes. TRYING ON DRESSES Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and try on dresses that aren’t necessarily in your comfort zone. You never know what a gown will really look like until you try it on, and lots of brides end up choosing a style of gown they never even dreamed of. Remember that the gowns at salons are just samples, so the size won’t be tailored to you, and most dresses can be ordered in various shades of white. So just because you’re not crazy about that big blush dress on the hanger, try it anyway! What do you have to lose? WORKING WITH A CONSULTANT While at the salon, make sure to take advantage of your professional consultant’s knowledge and expertise. A good bridal consultant should steer you in the right direction so communicate your likes, dislikes, wants, and needs as much as possible. It’s the consultant’s job to handle every step of your salon experience including showing you every option within your price range. They can also coordinate alterations and other practical matters once you’ve found “the one.” If you’re not in sync with the consultant you’ve been dealt, PremierBrideFlorida.com

don’t hesitate to ask to work with a different representative. Every bridal salon’s goal is to give you an enjoyable experience. ALTERATIONS & FITTINGS Deciding on a gown is a major hurdle, but that’s not the end of the wedding dress “to do” list. There are usually as many as four fittings that follow saying “yes” to the dress. Here are some tips for making this process run as smoothly as possible. First, give yourself and the seamstress sufficient time. If you’re in a rush, this is when working with a bridal salon can really help. It’s usually their job to make sure alterations run smoothly and on time. Second, choose a dress that’s very close to your actual size. Most gowns can’t be changed by more than two sizes, up or down. Buy a dress that fits the biggest part of you, not the smallest part. It’s easier to take a dress in to hug your figure than it is to PremierBrideFlorida.com
let it out. If you’re not working with a salon and have to find your own seamstress, choose one that has a great reputation, not the lowest rate. When the time comes for your first fitting, make sure you’re sporting the same undergarments and shoes that you’ll be wearing on your wedding day. Even the slightest tweak in bra padding or heel height can change the way a dress hangs and where the hem falls. As you’re working with the seamstress, trust that they know what they’re doing. You may ask them to make one alteration, and they might suggest an alternate way to achieve that look, or advise against it altogether. Know when to take a deep breath and have some faith in the professionals.

Amplified place settings are not a necessary part of the wedding….but they are an aspect of your design that will “wow” your guests and leave them with a lasting impression. This pictorial is going to lead you through a succession of price points per place setting and themes. When you work with a rental company, wedding planner, florist and/or catering company they will help you to design your customized place settings and establish a budget for your vision. All About Events created the black and gold place settings, St. Johns Illuminations created the pink place settings and Event Works created the blue place settings. Each rental company was tasked with creating looks with a $2, $3, $5, $7 and unlimited price point per table setting. The intention is to illustrate how you can change the look of our table by integrating special napkins, fancy dinner plates, unique flat wear, colored water glasses, napkin rings and/or stylized chargers. If you become inspired, make sure you budget for place setting décor. Not included in the price points are the flowers, greenery, paper goods or table cloths. Each company was given the standard china, glasses, white napkin and flatware that is included at St. Johns Golf and Country Club. Also included in the place setting designs were four looks with the themes; Boho, Glamor, Modern and Rustic. They were allowed to create these looks with an unlimited budget per table setting. When planning your place setting look, make sure PremierBrideFlorida.com
you find out what is included by your catering company and/or venue with your rental. Tips on creating budget friendly place settings: • Use a patterned or unique napkin. Simply having another color or texture on the table can give your table look an augmented look • Use a charger. Chargers create a look of depth by layering your place setting. Different types of charges have different price points but typically range from $0.75 to $6 per piece. • If your budget does not allow special china for dinner places and salad plates – just pick one and use the standard plate for the other. • Adding a colored water glass can give a fun look to your table with a multi-dimensional colored element on your table. • Flat wear. Selecting a gold or black flat wear can definitely change the entire look of your table. • Keep in mind that other elements also play a huge factor in the overall look of your table; flowers and centerpieces, name cards, menu cards and other paper goods. • If your budget does not allow you to provide a customized place setting for every guest, focus on the sweetheart table and/or the head table with your wedding party. • We encourage everyone to work with their professional wedding vendors. They will help you achieve your goals while keeping your budget in mind. Lets deconstruct the place settings that were designed…get inspired!

RINGS
amazing ITS
the power of a piece of jewelry to convey so much meaning… Engagement rings and wedding bands represent the never-ending love you have for each other, and let the whole world know you are married! Besides the exquisite beauty of wedding rings, there is a lot to know about metals, diamonds, and the care involved.

RINGS
THE CIRCLE OF LOVE understanding the basics GOLD Gold is classic, beautiful and everlasting. Gold has been a standard for centuries in jewelry making. In its pure form, 24 karat, it is too soft for lasting use so it is mixed with different metals (or alloyed) to create a balance of strength and beauty. The two most common are forms of gold are 14 karat and 18 karat.
ALTERNATIVE METALS Growing in popularity are the alternative metals: Titanium, Tungsten, Cobalt and Ceramics. These options offer a range of colors and styles. It is important to note that alternative metals are not sizable and must be ordered or purchased in the correct size. While very durable and scratch resistant, these options are not indestructible.
WHITE GOLD White gold does not occur in nature and is made by mixing pure 24 karat yellow gold with white alloys. Some common alloys are palladium, zinc and nickel. White gold will have a yellowish tint. This tint is covered when a Jeweler coat applies a platinum group metal, rhodium, to give white gold its bright white finish. It is not necessary to reapply rhodium however most people choose to have it “dipped” every 1-2 years depending on their preference.
KNOW YOUR DIAMOND When shopping for a diamond you will quickly be introduced to the “Four C’s” – Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat and the unofficial fifth “C” – Certification. These factors each have a part in the price.
PLATINUM Platinum is a naturally white, rare and dense metal. It has a substantial feel due to its density and is very durable. It is very pure and is generally only mixed with 5-10% of other platinum group metals. Platinum requires polishing to restore is original finish. Engraved rings are best suited to platinum, as the carving will look sharper and more precise. Platinum is hypoallergenic. PALLADIUM Palladium is a platinum group metal that is naturally white metal. It is less dense than platinum making it less expensive. Palladium is most commonly used in wedding bands that do not contain diamonds. Palladium, like Platinum, can be polished and refinished by a jeweler. Palladium is hypoallergenic. PremierBrideFlorida.com
Cut. Cut really refers to the proportions of a diamond and it’s facets, as opposed to its shape, which includes round brilliant, oval, pear, marquise, emerald, princess, radiant, cushion, or heart. Regardless of its shape, a diamond gets is brilliance from the cut, maximizing the reflection of light. When a diamond is cut too shallow or too deep, the light passes through the diamond rather than reflecting back to the eye. Color. Color refers to the lack of color or body color of a diamond. White diamonds are graded on a D-Z scale, D being the most colorless and Z have a distinct body color. Clarity. Clarity is determined by the number, color, nature, size and position of natural marks called inclusions contained in the diamond. Inclusions occur naturally during the process of crystallization, when minute traces of minerals are trapped in the diamond. The Gemological Institute of America judges clarity based on a standard scale from Flawless through Imperfect.

THE CIRCLE OF LOVE
Carat Weight. Diamonds are weighed in carats and may be described as points. 100 pennies to a dollar as 100 points to a carat, so a ½ carat diamond, or .50 carat, is 50 points. The heavier a diamond is, the more rare and valuable it is. CERTIFICATION Certifications sometimes accompany a diamond. The most recognized certification lab in the world is the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). The GIA was first organized in 1932 and invented the scale by which we grade diamonds. They are considered the strictest gemstone grading entity worldwide. There are several other labs used worldwide to grade diamonds and gemstones, each with a different level of accuracy when compared with the GIA.
Congratulations

APPRAISE IT An appraisal is a document that details your jewelry purchase and can be used for insurance purposes. The value on an insurance appraisal should be a value that is not overinflated but that is sufficient for replacement during a 3-5 year period. It will include the “four C’s”, certification information and a description of the piece. Make sure your policy specifically lists “mysterious disappearance” as this means your coverage extends to complete loss of the piece. It is always advisable to photograph your jewelry for your records. TAKE GOOD CARE Although diamonds are the hardest natural substance known to man, a hard blow could still chip one, so don’t wear your ring when doing rough work. You should also avoid direct contact with harsh chemicals and chlorinated pool water, which could pit and discolor the mounting. To clean your jewelry, regularly soak them for 30 minutes in either a commercial jeweler cleaner, or a homemade solution comprised of equal parts warm water and ammonia. Brush the stones gently with a soft toothbrush, then rinse thoroughly under warm water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Use this solution only on diamonds and precious metals as some gemstones and alternative metals are not compatible with ammonia or commercial jewelry cleaners. Consult a jeweler about how to clean gemstones. Have your rings checked semi-annually or more often if you are very active or hard on your jewelry. It is important to remember that metal can bend and move over time and will need attention. Proper care and maintenance will ensure lasting enjoyment and pride in this symbol of celebration. GROOMS
THE WELL-SUITED GROOM everything you need to know
GROOMS
The bride, in her splendid gown, will turn heads as she walks down the aisle, but the groom, waiting patiently at the altar, deserves his share of the attention too. And he will look splendid also, dressed in the perfect outfit for the perfect day, and ready to celebrate. THE LEVEL OF FORMALITY The first order of business is to evaluate how formal your wedding will be. This depends on the time of day of the wedding, the location, but most of all, on you and your fiancé. The degree of formality will affect the wedding attire. In warm weather, think lighter colors (such as tan and white), and in cool weather think darker colors (navy and charcoal.) Grey would likely work anytime, and black is always classic and appropriate. Ties, vests and cummerbunds can match the wedding colors, or compliment them with colors such as white, ivory, silver, grey or black. If the bridal gown is ivory, the men should wear ivory shirts, not white, to compliment her. Semiformal and formal weddings have plenty of options: a high quality, single- or double-breasted men’s suit in black, dark charcoal or navy with a Windsor knotted tie in white, ivory, navy, silver or black is a less formal option. For a more formal look than that, consider a tuxedo with a single- or double-breasted dinner jacket, a white or ivory pointed-collar shirt, a vest or cummerbund and either a bow tie or a fourin-hand tie (a “fancy” knotted necktie).

THE WELL-SUITED GROOM
A very formal wedding, called “white tie,” calls for the traditional black tuxedo with tails, a vest, a white winged-color shirt and a bow tie. If you can envision a symphony conductor’s attire, this is “white tie.” DISTINGUISHING THE GROOM One way to distinguish the groom is to give him a different, but complimentary, boutonniere to wear. Another idea is for the groom to wear a white jacket while his groomsmen are in black. Or, the groom could wear a white, ivory or silver vest and/ or tie while his groomsmen wear vests and/ or ties in black, or a color that matches the bridesmaids’ dresses. SHOPPING TIPS When the men visit their formalwear shop they should have a firm idea of the women’s wedding attire, and bring fabric or color swatches from the bridesmaids’ gowns. 136 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
The groom and groomsmen should reserve their rentals at least three months in advance of the wedding. Final measurements should be taken about three weeks before the ceremony; however, be sure to come back a few days before the wedding for last-minute alterations. Out-of-town groomsmen can get measured at any formalwear store or local tailor’s near them, and send their measurements to the your formalwear store. Someone should be designated to return all formalwear to the store on time in order to avoid late fees, which can get quite expensive adding up the per day, per outfit costs. Finally, it’s critical to get a perfect fit – even the best outfit won’t look good if the fit isn’t right. Rely on the expertise of your formalwear consultant. PremierBrideFlorida.com

HONEYMOON
YOU CAN STILL BE EXCITED about planning your honeymoon or destination wedding Weddings have been difficult to navigate during the COVID pandemic but travel has changed completely. Many couples spend years or months planning their wedding and the honeymoon is time when they can relax, decompress and unwind. While weddings have resumed to a somewhat normal basis, many couples have decided to postpone their long-awaited honeymoon. Some are concerned with traveling during a pandemic, but a lot of people are worried about getting stuck in other countries during these unprecedented times. The GREAT news is that travel is NOT shut down. In fact, many countries and states are open for business and there are great deals to be had if you want to travel. Premier Bride of Northeast Florida reached out to several of our top travel agents in our area for their advise on travel during this time. Lori Osgood (LO) with Cruise Planners and Shawnee Doster (SD) with Palm Travel Group provided some amazing tips and feedback if you are thinking about packing your bags and dusting off that passport. We asked both agents what countries are the easiest to travel too at this time and here is the long list of places they recommend: • Aruba
• Dominican Republic
• The Bahamas
• French Polynesia
• Barbados
• Greece
• Belize
• Grenada
• Bermuda
• Ireland
• Bonaire
• Jamaica
• British Virgin Island • Maldives • Costa Rica
• Mexico
• Curacao
• Panama
PremierBrideFlorida.com
Keep in mind that most countries are requiring that you present a negative COVID PCR test within a certain number of hours prior to travel or to show proof of vaccination. Some countries require a special travel insurance too. Shawnee believes Mexico has the most flexibility. You don’t need a COVID test to travel into Mexico (but it’s not a bad idea to get one). To return to the USA, you need to test negative. Many resorts are providing these tests free of charge. If you are positive, you need to stay in Mexico until negative. WHAT SHOULD COUPLES CONSIDER Both travel agents agree to use a professional to help you navigate any restrictions and special considerations you need to be aware of. A good travel agent can assure and advise on destinations. But compliancy is the client’s responsibility with regard to testing and filling out forms per destination prior to arrival. Lori Osgood adds that couples should not settle! If the country you really want to visit is not open, plan something smaller and keep planning the trip you have always wanted for a later date. Shawnee added that being fully vaccinated is a safer course of action for clients who want to travel internationally. As for countries that you should avoid, they suggest visiting the U.S. Dept. of State’s website to see what the current travel conditions are for the country that you are looking to visit and any updates and travel advisories on the horizon. Requirements are changing all of the time, so working with an agent will help you navigate the ever changing situation. SUMMER/FALL 2021 • PREMIER BRIDE • 139
YOU CAN STILL BE EXCITED
Lori specializes in cruises and we asked her what the current situation is as of Mid-May. Here was her response: The cruise industry is making a comeback with many cruises beginning to set sail again this summer. As of now, it looks like cruises will only sail with vaccinated crew and guests. Cruise lines are allowing a small percentage of people onboard that are not vaccinated but it seems as though this would be for children and they would have to present a negative test within a certain number of hours prior to boarding. The protocol for life on the ship is ever changing as well. As of now, it seems many will adopt similar restrictions that we are used to – masks required while moving around the ship but they can be taken off while dining/drinking, seated and while outside…required anywhere where social distancing is not possible. Each line is handling things differently and new protocols are being announced daily. Shawnee handles a lot of European travel and this is her current advice: Some European destinations are open for travel and also requiring COVID testing 72 hours or so prior to arrival. With that being said, there are some places that are not open at this time. We expect most European destinations to be open to travel by the Fall of 2021. This is, of course, speculation based upon COVID experience per country, vaccines, and herd immunity. Here is an article I found that lists this info out by country. This information is also fluid and can change quickly. It is projected that by fall of 2021, more European travel will be readily available. WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE COUPLES Lori Osgood: You can still be excited about planning your honeymoon or destination wedding! There are many countries open and eager for you to come visit. Most resorts have made it very easy to comply 140 • PREMIER BRIDE • SUMMER/FALL 2021
with the CDC requirements requiring you to present a negative COVID test upon reentry into the US by providing onsite testing so as not to interrupt your honeymoon. As a travel advisor, my company Cruise Planners, actually has made it even easier for my clients to get their COVID-19 PCR tests. We have partnered with ImmunitiRx, a service that offers convenient at-home COVID-19 PCR tests that can be self-administered prior to traveling. If you do plan to travel internationally for your honeymoon and do not already have your passport or need it renewed, I highly recommend doing so as soon as possible. With more countries opening for travel and cruise lines slowly beginning to start sailing again the demand for passports will be high and therefore there could be a bit of a delay in getting them back. Shawnee Doster: Do not fear international travel. Destinations and resorts want and need your travel business. It is their livelihood and their business. Resorts, depending on the destination, have limited capacity based on their COVID number per island/country. Resorts have really stepped up in their cleaning and sanitizing to help assure safety of guests. Almost everywhere I have been, staff wear masks throughout the resort, even outside to protect themselves and guests. I have personally traveled to Mexico – once in November 2020 and just recently a week ago to visit about 12 resorts and I felt very safe. Travel agents have worked hard during the pandemic cancelling and rescheduling trips and along with other wedding professionals, are among the many professionals working hard for their clients in hopes that together we’ll make it thru this pandemic. You don’t have to live in the same state or area as your agent…they can help you anywhere!
