CIK-FIA 2017
The CIK-FIA season once more presents an exciting calendar of events in Europe, which in 2017 will visit eight different countries: in chronological order, the events for the European Championship will be held in Italy, Belgium, Spain, France, in Scandinavia with two consecutive stops in Finland and Sweden, and finally, for the World Championship, in Germany and England.
The first of the two events dedicated to the World Championship is scheduled in Germany at Wackersdorf, which will decide the world champion in KZ as well as the International KZ2 Super Cup, and the second in England on the PFI circuit for the OK and OK-Junior categories. The European Championship unfolds over six events, with the KZ, KZ2, OK and OK-Junior categories competing on the tracks of Sarno (Italy), Genk (Belgium), La Morgal (Spain), Le Mans (France), Alaharma (Finland), and Kristianstad (Sweden). In the CIK-FIA races the Academy Trophy will also be held during the three tests at Genk, Le Mans and Alahärmä.
Promotion by WSK Promotion in the CIK-FIA Championships continued to benefit from the excellent distribution of television footage, broadcast via Live Streaming on the cikfia.tv and cikfiachampionship.com sites, and then distributed around the world with special services to international networks through the Wige Group. WSK’s production also included a 24-minute report for television on each event that was subsequently broadcast internationally by the Motorsport TV network.

The weather was not clement at the start of the World Championship weekend in Germany, but it went on to improve for Sunday’s Finals. The driver to beat was undoubtedly Paolo De Conto (CRG-TM Racing-Bridgestone), the reigning KZ World Champion and new KZ European Champion. However, De Conto did not get off to a good start on the weekend at Wackersdorf, finishing only 14th in practice, while Anthony Abbasse (Sodi-TM RacingBridgestone), who posted the fastest time in practice, followed by Marijn Kremers (BirelArtTM Racing-Bridgestone) 65 thousandths of a second behind and Fabian Federer (CRG-TM Racing-Bridgestone) at 87 thousandths of a second, took centre stage. Abbasse confirmed his competitiveness in the heats and his endeavours earnt him pole position in the Final, followed by Jeremy Iglesias (Formula K-TM Racing-Bridgestone) in second and Patrick Hajek (KosmicVortex-Bridgestone) in third, while Paolo De Conto managed to climb up to fourth. The Final started with a surprise, with Iglesias fastest from the off, followed by Hajek, but the two came into contact on the first lap and allowed Abbasse and De Conto to begin a duel that lasted a few laps until De Conto managed to overtake the former and take the lead in the Final. The duel between the two continued right up to the finish line, but De Conto was able to maintain a margin that allowed him to win a second consecutive KZ World Championship title. Abbasse finished second just behind De Conto, while third place went to Ben Hanley (CrocPromotion-TM Racing-Bridgestone) who managed to climb the field from thirteenth place. Jorrit Pex (CRGTM Racing-Bridgestone) finished fourth, Simo Puhakka (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone) fifth and Kremers sixth.

IRRESISTIBILE IRLANDO E’ CAMPIONE IN KZ2
THE IRRESISTIBLE IRLANDO BECOMES KZ2 CHAMPION
The International KZ2 Super Cup at Wackersdorf was one of the most exhilarating events, with so many star performers among the 113 drivers that took part. The initial stages saw Riccardo Longhi (BirelArt-TM Racing- Bridgestone) come to the fore, posting the fastest time in practice and then in the heats, managing 5 wins out of the 6 races. The heats also favoured: Benjamin Tornqvist Persson (CRG-TM Racing-Bridgestone), whose four wins earnt him second place ahead of Marco Zanchetta (Maranello-TM Racing-Bridgestone). Daniel Stell (Mach1-TM Racing-Bridgestone) was fourth, preceding Fabrizio Celenta (PragaTM Racing-Bridgestone) and Alex Irlando (Sodi-TM Racing-Bridgestone), the latter in sixth after being awarded a penalty (noise) despite four wins. The Final will be remembered for being undecided right up to the last few metres. The beginning of the race was immediately a hard-fought affair, with Longhi not getting off to a good start and Tornqvist in particular taking advantage, while behind him Zanchetta lost a number of positions following a collision with Irlando. However, Irlando managed a comeback that took him to within a whisker of Tornqvist and, during an exciting last lap, Irlando managed to overtake his rival on the final bend and take the chequered flag 49 thousandths of a second ahead of Tornqvist. Longhi consoled himself with third place, Celenta managed to climb back up the field and finished fourth ahead of Zanchetta.
