Drivers of the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth got on track for the fourth round of the season as summer was in its full swing. No one of them had even thought of summer holidays though: all energies were focused on the challenging track of Mugello, that has witnessed the deeds of a lot of champions in its history. This round has been the turning point of the season: three rounds gone and three more to go.

A new name was on top of the charts: Prema Power Team’s Marcus Armstrong. The New Zealander claimed his maiden win in the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth in Vallelunga and, a third and fourth place earned him the classification lead one point clear of Lorenzo Colombo. The latter suffered a retirement in Race-1, before scoring a sixth and fifth place in Vallelunga. A fifth place made the Dutch Job Van Uitert slip down to P3, but the title quest was still wide open. The first official test session held during the days leading to the weekend of Mugello saw Lorenzo Colombo being the quickest.

MUGELLO, SORPRESE

E CONFERME MUGELLO, SURPRISES AND CONFIRMATIONS

Marcus Armstrong had a good start to the Tuscany’s weekend and posted the quickest time in qualifying one, leading his Estonian team mate Juri Vips. The quickest in the second qualifying session in Mugello was Juri Vips, who led the rookie Leonardo Lorandi.

Marcus Armstrong got away well from the pole in Race-1, followed by Juri Vips and the Italians of team Bhaitech, Lorenzo Colombo and Leonardo Lorandi. The Dutch driver Job Van Uitert continued his negative momentum: the Jenzer Motorsport’s driver had in fact a contact with the Venezuelan of Team Bhaitech Sebastian Fernandez at turn one and both had to retire. These two DNFs were quite important classification-wise, as the two stood respectively third and fourth before the start. Race-1 got regularly underway after a few laps behind the Safety Car and the top 4 led by Armstrong closed their effort without any position change. Lorandi scored therefore another victory in the Rookie Trophy, leading the Brazilian Enzo Fittipaldi and Olli Caldwell, that respectively crossed the finish line in sixth and eleventh place.

The Estonian Juri Vips had a good jump from the pole position of Race-2, while Leonardo Lorandi had to fend off Marcus Armstrong. The Russian Artem Petrov, started from the eight spot of the grid and put in a good comeback finding his way past Colombo and Fernandez. The Safety Car was deployed on lap five and Armstrong managed to get past Lorandi at the restart. The latter also lost out his position to Petrov shortly after. Race-2 ended under the Safety Car regime with Vips taking the victory. Lorandi was fourth and first in the Rookie Trophy. The Brazilian Felipe Branquinho and the Argentine Giorgio Carrara joined him on the podium . Lorenzo Colombo was seventh at the flag, while the Dutch Job Van Uitert scored his fourth DNF in a row, as his car stopped during the Safety Car neutralization.

Race-3 has been very hot with temperatures around 30°C. The Indian Kush Maini and the Swiss Mickael Grosso clashed at the first start. The race was therefore red flagged and a new start followed later on. The victory went to the Dutch Job Van Uitert from P5. Just after half-way through he managed to find his way past Juri Vips and pulled away building an 8s lead on Vips. The third place went to Lorenzo Colombo, who tried to attack for P2, but in the end he decided to settle for second, thinking about the championship. The Venezuelan Sebastian Fernandez was fourth and proceeded Leonardo Lorandi, who scored another triple-win in the Rookie Trophy. The second place among the rookies went to Enzo Fittipaldi, who was sixth absolute, and the third to the British driver Olli Caldwell, who closed eleventh overall.
