AUTODROMO ENZO E DINO FERRARI

Dopo la pausa estiva, la serie delle monoposto torna in pista a Imola. Un autodromo ricco di storia e su cui quasi ogni pilota ama cimentarsi, affascinato da quell’alternanza tra curve veloci e passaggi tecnici. Le squadre approdano all’appuntamento particolarmente preparate, dopo la seconda giornata stagionale di test ufficiali che si è svolta proprio sul Circuito del Santerno il 30 agosto, nel corso della quale molti piloti hanno percorso fino a 110 giri.

A Imola si arriva al quinto dei sette round in Campionato con il neozelandese Marcus Armstrong sempre più saldamente al comando della classifica generale, grazie ad una vittoria, un terzo e un ottavo posto conquistati sul circuito del Mugello. Alle sue spalle c’è Lorenzo Colombo, ma se prima della gara in Toscana i due erano separati soltanto da un punto, adesso le lunghezze da recuperare per l’italiano sono dodici. A 33 punti invece, c’è l’olandese Job Van Uitert, che al Mugello non ha raccolto punti nelle prime due gare, ma ha vinto Gara-3.

The series resumed its campaign from Imola after the summer break. The circuit is full of motorsport history and virtually every driver enjoys the challenge of its mix of fast corners and technical sections. Teams get to this round well prepared after the second official testing day of the season that took place at the Circuit on the Santerno benches on August 30th, during which several drivers clocked up to 110 laps. Imola staged the fifth of the seven rounds of the Championship and the New Zealander Marcus Armstrong got firmly on top of the classification thanks to a victory, a third and an eighth place scored in the previous round held in Mugello. Behind him, Lorenzo Colombo saw his gap to the top increased from one point to twelve at the end of the round held in Tuscany. The Dutch Job Van Uitert followed 33 short of the lead, as he did not score points in the first two races held in Mugello but won Race-3.

SEMPRE ARMSTRONG, MA A IMOLA CAMBIA L’INSEGUITORE ARMSTRONG AGAIN, BUT A DIFFERENT RUNNER UP IN IMOLA

Nel primo turno di qualifiche il più veloce di tutti è proprio Marcus Armstrong, il portacolori del Prema Power Team che conduce la classifica di Campionato. Lo seguono il proprio compagno di squadra Juri Vips e l’olandese Job Van Uitert. Il leader della classifica Rookie, Leonardo Lorandi, è quarto. Nel secondo turno di qualifiche è invece il team Jenzer Motorsport a mettere due suoi piloti davanti a tutti: Job Van Uitert e l’indiano Kush Maini, con Lorenzo Colombo terzo, mentre Armstrong si ferma quasi subito per un problema al volante. In entrambe le sessioni risalta il grande equilibrio in pista: nella prima sessione ci sono 14 piloti in 747 millesimi di secondo, nella seconda i primi 14 sono racchiusi in 880 millesimi.

Gara-1 vede un’ottima partenza del poleman Armstrong, che chiude primo sotto la bandiera a scacchi senza mai cedere la posizione. Vince così, con sicurezza, la sua terza gara. E’ alla sua prima stagione in F.4, Armstrong, ma non viene considerato un Rookie perché ha già disputato la F. Toyota e alcune gare di F. Renault. L’estone Juri Vips è costretto al ritiro dopo aver danneggiato la sua monoposto alla prima curva. A ereditare la seconda posizione è l’olandese Job Van Uitert, che negli ultimi tre giri si avvicina ad Armstrong, fino a chiudere a soli 144 millesimi. Sul terzo gradino del podio sale il tedesco Lirim Zendeli del BWT Mücke Motorsport, autore di una strenua difesa dagli attacchi dell’italiano Lorenzo Colombo, alla fine quinto alle spalle di Kush Maini. Lorandi, ottavo assoluto, vince ancora nel Rookie Trophy, seguito dall’argentino Giorgio Carrara e dal brasiliano Felipe Branquinho.

Un nubifragio rende impraticabile la pista, Gara-2 viene spostata di orario e ridotta di 7 giri. Il via avviene dietro Safety Car, che comanda il gruppo per quattro giri per consentire ai piloti di prendere confidenza con l’asfalto bagnato. Confermandosi un autentico “rainman”, l’olandese Job Van Uitert si porta subito al comando e vince con oltre sette secondi di vantaggio sul secondo, l’estone Juri Vips rimontato dalla settima posizione. Sul podio anche l’indiano Kush Maini, sorpassato da Vips proprio all’ultimo giro. Marcus Armstrong chiude al quarto posto dopo essere partito ottavo, e precede Lorenzo Colombo, autore di una piccola sbavatura quando mancavano due tornate al traguardo. Leonardo Lorandi, settimo assoluto, fa doppietta nel Rookie Trophy, imponendosi su Giorgio Carrara e Enzo Fittipaldi.

Anche Gara-3 viene accorciata. Il cielo è coperto ma non piove. I piloti si schierano con pneumatici slick, ma per ragioni di sicurezza il via avviene dietro Safety Car e appena questa lascia pista libera, è ancora l’olandese Job Van Uitert a prendere subito il comando per poi andare a chiudere primo sotto la bandiera a scacchi. Questa volta, però, l’olandese non riuscirà ad accumulare lo stesso margine di Gara-2, e chiuderà con soli 152 millesimi di vantaggio su Leonardo Lorandi, e poco più di sei decimi su Marcus Armstrong. Alle spalle di Van Uitert si consuma una battaglia molto accesa, che vede protagonista l’estone Juri Vips, passato da sesto a quarto alla prima staccata e già terzo al secondo passaggio. Quando prova ad attaccare Kush Maini, quest’ultimo va in testacoda e costringe anche Vips ad allargarsi nella sabbia. L’estone chiuderà in sesta piazza, l’indiano in nona. Ad approfittarne sono Lorandi e Armstrong, che si piazzano davanti a Fernandez, partito nono. Tra i Rookies, alle spalle di Lorandi, che sigla la tripletta, si classificano Enzo Fittipaldi, settimo assoluto, e Giorgio Carrara, undicesimo. Marcus Armstrong was the quickest of all in qualifying one. Prema Power team’s classification leader was followed by team mate Juri Vips and by the Dutch Job Van Uitert. The Rookie classification leader Leonardo Lorandi was fourth. Team Jenzer Motorsport had the upper hand in the second qualifying placing its drivers on top: Job Van Uitert led the Indian Kush Maini, while Lorenzo Colombo was third, as Armstrong suffered a problem to the steering wheel. Both sessions highlighted a very close competition: 14 drivers ended qualifying one all within 0.747s, while the top 14 was in 0.880s in the second.

Armstrong had a good start to Race-1 from pole position and crossed the finish line on top leading the pack for the whole race, claiming his third win in this way. Armstrong was at his first season in F.4 but he did not count as a Rookie as he already competed in F. Toyota and in some races of F. Renault. Juri Vips crashed out of the race at the first corner. The second position was inherited by the Dutch Job Van Uitert, who closed in on Armstrong in the final three laps eventually crossing the line only 0.144s shy of him. The third step of the podium went to the German Lirim Zendeli of BWT Mücke Motorsport, who defended himself well from Lorenzo Colombo, who closed fifth behind Kush Maini. Lorandi, ended eighth absolute and took another win in the Rookie Trophy, with the Argentine Giorgio Carrara and the Brazilian Felipe Branquinho following him.

A downpour made the track impassable and Race-2 was delayed and reduced by 7 laps. The start was eventually given behind the Safety Car that stayed on track for four laps to allow drivers to build some confidence in the wet. The Dutch confirmed to be a real “rain-man”, taking an early lead and winning with more than seven seconds of margin on the Estonian Juri Vips, who had recovered up to P2 from the seventh place. The Indian Kush Maini rounded off the podium as he was overtaken by Vips in the closing lap. Marcus Armstrong ended fourth a race started from the eighth spot of the grid, proceeding Lorenzo Colombo, who had a moment with two laps to go. Leonardo Lorandi, was seventh absolute and got another victory in the Rookie Trophy, winning from Giorgio Carrara to Enzo Fittipaldi.

Race-3 was also shortened. The sky was cloudy but it did not rain. Drivers lined up on slick tyres, but the start was given behind the Safety Car for safety reasons. When the Safety Car headed back to the pits, the Dutch Job Van Uitert got the lead and kept it all the way to the flag. This time the Dutch driver could not build the same margin he secured in Race-2, as Leonardo Lorandi closed his race only 0.152s behind him, and Marcus Armstrong was third at 0.6s. Behind Van Uitert, a very hard-fought battle saw Juri Vips going from sixth to fourth at turn one and taking third on lap two. He then tried to get past Kush Maini, but the latter spun and forced Vips to go wide into the sand. The Estonian driver rejoined and closed sixth, while the Indian was ninth. Lorandi and Armstrong got the most of it, ending their race ahead of Fernandez, who had started from P9. Among the Rookies, Lorandi claimed another triple-win and was followed by Enzo Fittipaldi, who was seventh absolute, and Giorgio Carrara, eleventh.
