MUSEO Y CIRCUITO FERNANDO ALONSO

The European Championship went to Spain, in the Asturias Principality at La Morgal near Oviedo for the third round of the season. The setting for the event was the new Alonso Circuit, a beautiful facility and a 1,390 metre track that in some sections reproduces the bends of other race tracks the famous chicane at the Parma kart track. The event included the KZ once again for a third and penultimate round before finishing in Sweden and the OK and OK-Junior for the second round of the five scheduled on the calendar.

The Fernando Alonso Karting Circuit complex, which for the first time will play host to CIK-FIA races, also includes a wonderful museum dedicated to the career of the two-time Formula 1 world champion - from the karts used in his first years of competitive activity, to all the Formula 1 cars he’s driven in his career. An exceptional collection of 270 oneof-a-kind pieces including karts, single-seaters, helmets, uniforms, trophies that arouses the admiration of visitors and fans on a daily basis.

LA TERZA PROVA ESALTA DE CONTO, HILTBRAND E MICHELOTTO THE THIRD ROUND SAW THE BEST OF DE CONTO, HILTBRAND AND MICHELOTTO

The approach of the 129 drivers involved in the event in Spain was not the easiest way to get to know the intricacies of the Alonso circuit. Paolo De Conto (CRG-TM Racing-Bridgestone) led the KZ Championship, but the Italian driver was soon put under pressure by Dutchman Marijn Kremers (BirelArt-TM Racing-Bridgestone), who managed pole position in practice. De Conto struck back by winning the heats, followed by Jeremy Iglesias (Formula K-TM RacingBridgestone), Patrik Hajek (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone) and Kremers. Anthony Abbasse (SodiTM Racing-Bridgestone) was involved in an accident in the Final, requiring the drivers to slow down for a period of time. The duel that took place on the final laps saw Paolo De Conto triumph after a heated battle against Iglesias and then Bas Lammers (Sodi-TM Racing-Bridgestone), who crossed the finish line hot on the heels of De Conto. Kremers finished third ahead of Patrik Hajek (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone). Stan Pex (CRG-TM Racing-Bridgestone) finished fourth and Iglesias fifth. Following this third victory, added to the ones at Sarno and in Genk, meant that Paolo De Conto could virtually consider himself European Champion. 56 drivers took part in the OK, which saw Noah Milell (Kosmic-Vortex-LeCont) post the fastest time in practice, although he had to settle for second place in the heats behind Hannes Janker (CRG-Iame-LeCont), who managed to win all four of his qualifying races. Pedro Hiltbrand (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont) took the lead in the Final, while Milell was involved in an accident on the first few laps. In the battle for the remaining places on the podium, Tom Joyner (ZanardiParilla-LeCont) finished ahead of David Vidales (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont). 72 drivers took part in the OK-Junior and a fascinating duel began as early as the qualifiers, in which England’s Christopher Lulham (Tony Kart-Parilla-Vega), who also won the heats ahead of his fellow Englishman Harry Thompson (FA -Vortex-Vega), posted the fastest time. In a hard-fought Final, Jonny Edgar (Exprit-TM Racing-Vega) was first to cross the finish line, but he picked up a 10 second penalty, which meant that the win went to Mattia Michelotto (Zanardi-Parilla-Vega), who managed a great comeback through the field. Lulham finished second, while Thompson finished third after a penalty was awarded to Genis Civico (FA KartParilla-LeCont-Vega).
