The rise of print in India – a Kodak story The overall economic outlook for print is changing, and in a good way. Recent industry reports indicate that confidence and investment in the specific print and packaging markets are returning in most regions around the world, while some of these regions – including India are already seeing exponential growth. According to the NPES (Now rebranded as the Association of Print Technologies, or AP Tech) and VDMA’s Worldwide market for print 2.0: Global opportunities in publishing printing and marketing & commercial printing (2012-21) report, the Asia Pacific region is expected to outperform all other regions in terms of both the publishing printing and marketing & commercial printing industries, with India one of the key growth countries in this region.

Kodak’s global Print for Good campaign in support of increasing literacy, rallied employees in partnership with ‘Youth for People’ to distribute over 5,000 notebooks to 1,000 children based in the Nilmati province in 2017. The activity will be replicated again this year.

Key Notes : > India to surpass France and the UK to become the 4th biggest publishing market by 2021. > Making a difference in the Indian community is very important to Kodak. > Will continue to play a key part in the country’s print and printed packaging industry which has a bright future.

Predicted to grow at a rate of 8.1% per year between 2016 and 2021, India’s publishing printing market will surpass France and the UK in 2020 to become the 4th biggest publishing market by 2021 – adding $1.2bn of revenue during this time. The same goes for the country’s marketing & commercial printing market, which is expected to see a compound annual growth rate in local currency of 7.7% - the second highest globally – which will see revenue growth of $957m by 2021. Growth projections for the packaging printing market

is equally favourable, with India expected to top the growth rate charts at 12.5% between 2016 and 2020. This will see the country climbing the ranks of the print packaging industry to become the 4th largest ($18.6bn) by 2020, according to NPES in the Worldwide market for print 2.0: Packaging (20112020) report. “The labels market in India is definitely growing at a much faster rate compared to the rest of the world, and it’s good to see how print service providers are embracing this,” comments Rajesh Nema, Honorary Secretary of the Label Manufacturers Association of India. “Our members are still investing in conventional printing devices that offer better productivity and connectivity, and flexo is growing in the label as well as folding carton and flexible packaging markets. Digital printing, in my opinion, will still take time to establish itself properly in the Indian printing market as it is still more cost effective to use traditional printing methods.” Rajesh also says that with a rapidly growing market poses a couple of concerns: “With practically no market entry barrier, we are seeing too many PSPs entering the field, which in turn is creating unhealthy price competition and a great need for thought leaders to impart their knowledge. It is therefore the

pressideas/ commercial printing

industry associations’ duty to ensure we educate the market, including our members, on the dangers of reverse auctions where the winner really is the biggest loser.”

Drivers for growth There are a number of key drivers behind India’s optimistic growth potential. A rapid rise in literacy rates and education levels, urbanization, commercial development and rising incomes, which sees a bigger investment in brands, are all contributing to the growth of the Indian print and printed packaging industry. Komal Sharma, Regional Director for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, Kodak, comments: “Population and economic growth has fostered urbanization in the country and the number of urban towns and cities has drastically increased. This means that more people than ever have the economic ability to invest in brands and premium products, and the print industry is adapting to satisfy the requirements, including higher quality and efficiency associated with it.” Various governmental and non-governmental literacy and education programs, which included several Kodak initiatives, have contributed to the rapid rise in literacy rates in India – confirmed at 74% after the 2011 census. This, together with a fast-growing population and urbanization, result in news and other content becoming more localized in regions, in turn demanding more versioning and different print runs from service providers. Indian printers and printed packaging service providers are placing their trust in Kodak when they make new investments, and they are reaping the benefits of delivering higher quality and achieving high level of efficiency in doing so.

Kodak technologies offer host of benefits for PSPs Kodak has long been seen as one of India’s top trusted print technology suppliers, and with the country’s exponential growth rate printers continue to choose Kodak’s hardware, consumables and KODAK PRINERGY Workflow software to provide the best return on their investment. As the number one choice for printers when

10

July 2018

investing in thermal CtP equipment, the KODAK ACHIEVE Platesetters and KODAK TRENDSETTER Platesetters are not only chosen for their reliability, productivity and accurate imaging, but also for their reduced footprint and the up to 80%-95% reduction in energy usage compared to similar offerings. Kodak’s variety of plate offerings are also proving popular amongst Indian commercial and newspaper printers. The company’s KODAK SONORA Process Free Plates, which completely eliminate the plate processing step, are increasingly popular – having seen a growth of 9% worldwide over the past year – as more and more printers are focusing on green credentials and water, chemistry and energy savings. With the latest introduction of SONORA X Plates, which enable much longer run lengths, faster imaging speeds, and more robust handling capabilities, up to 80% of offset printers can benefit from the sustainable and economic benefits the SONORA Plate portfolio offers. Surat-based Progressive Printing Press, one of India’s leading commercial print service providers, has made great strides in improving productivity and the quality print they produce by utilizing Kodak’s SONORA Process Free Plates and KODAK TRENDSETTER Q400Platesetter equipment. Imaging an average of 7,000 plates/month, the company is one of the largest SONORA Plate users in India. “As we solely produce high end fashion catalogues, print quality is naturally one of

our key concerns. SONORA Plates deliver the best quality of all plates we’ve looked at,” explains Latif Sanchawala, Director at Progressive Printing Press. “Furthermore, by using process free we not only do what every printer should be doing to be as environmentally responsible as possible, but it also gives us a great boost in productivity. With SONORA Process Free Plates, we’ve increased plate-making productivity by 60% - a huge benefit for us. That is why I recommend Kodak and SONORA Process Free Plates to all my industry peers.” Raju Hiremath, Assistant General Manager at VRL Logistics, adds: “By switching to KODAK SONORA Process Free Plates, we’ve had substantial savings. We’ve been able to remove 20 plate processors, which in turn allows us to save around 440 liters of water per day. Furthermore, we save around 820 kWh of energy per day, as well ongoing processor maintenance and additional spare parts. This is not only a great economic benefit for us, but an environmental one too.” India has also experienced an increase in the number of flexo presses installed. This is indicative of what was reported in the drupa 5th Global Trends report, which stated that flexo is the most popular investment choice in packaging for 2018. The FLEXCEL NX System has captured the attention of a great number of Indian flexo pre-press providers and printers – including those looking to convert gravure print production to flexo. Flexo benefits include greater substrate flexibility, including printing on lightweight

pressideas/ commercial printing

films, and shorter lead times – and the KODAK FLEXCEL NX System ensures there is no compromise when it comes to print quality. “As our trusted partner and long-term thermal imaging technology supplier, Kodak’s FLEXCEL NXSystem was a natural choice for us when we expanded into the flexible packaging and label market,” says Tarun Katyal, owner and director of Delhi-NCR based pre-press bureau Anupama Printing Solutions. “Our customers were immediately impressed with and are now insisting on the FLEXCEL NX Plates, which allow them to achieve deeper solids and crisper text, while the speed of the FLEXCEL NXSystem has also allowed us to maximize productivity. When we expand our flexo business with the addition of another imager later this year, there is obviously only one choice for us and that is Kodak.” Ahmedabad-based Pinmark, the first Indian trade shop to install the FLEXCEL NXSystem, chose Kodak for the exceptional quality and the wider colour gamut that can be achieved. “With theFLEXCEL NX System, we have a very powerful technology that delivers the best possible quality –various awards won by our customers are testimony to this. Most of our customers now insist on FLEXCEL NX Plates,” explains Rutul Zaveri, Partner at Pinmark. “We’re continually working with Kodak to upgrade our equipment and stay ahead of our competitors and are looking at the new developments in Flexo that Kodak continues to be working on. We’ll be ready to implement it at Pinmark once it’s available.” Kodak’s digital printing technology is also helping Indian print and printed packaging service providers to stand out from their competitors. The KODAK NEXPRESS Press, Kodak’s sheetfed electrophotographic printing (EP) offering, is utilized by PSPs across the country for a variety of applications, including Aadhaar (UIDAI) cards, textiles, promotional brochures and pamphlets. K L Hi-Tech, based in Hyderabad, India, utilizes their NEXPRESS Press to produce almost a third of India’s Aadhaar cards – a compulsory identity card with a unique 12-digit identification number for all residents. Since the company started production of the cards in 2012, it saw print volumes of

12

July 2018

500,000 and upwards, which the NEXPRESS Press has continued to deliver on without a hitch. Also commenting on the NEXPRESS Press, Latif Sanchawala adds: “The NEXPRESS Press covers customer emergencies and shortrun jobs of between 50 and 200 catalogues. As it’s calibrated with our offset press, we can deliver virtually the same print quality as offset, a great benefit for us and for our customers.” And, while the Indian print market has been slow in the adoption of inkjet up to now, many PSPs believe that the time to invest in inkjet production presses is here. Repro India revolutionized the Indian publishing market after it invested in a KODAK PROSPER1000 Press from Kodak over five years ago. They have not looked back since. Rishi Kharalkar, Head of Supply Chain & Operations, Repro India, comments: “Kodak’s PROSPER 1000 Press is the perfect device for shorter print runs of 30 – 2,000 pages and has enabled us to bring together a range of India’s biggest publishers through a large database and digital storefront. It now produces an average of 70 million A4 pages per month, no mean feat by any standards.” There has also been a big uptake on Kodak’s PROSPER S-Series heads for packaging, labeling and security printing applications, installed onto conventional presses to allow for a hybrid printing option. The imprinting systems has proved ideal for the production of lottery tickets (6.2 million tickets per day) and promotional or loyalty customer programs. Finally, over 700 Indian commercial printing and printed packaging service providers are benefiting from KODAK PRINERGY or PRINERGY EVO Workflow Software. This number continues to rise as more and more digital print service providers are now also adopting and investing in this trusted KODAK Technology.

Taking it further – beyond print Making a difference in the Indian community is very important to Kodak, and the company is involved with a number of programs. Kodak’s global Print for Good campaign in support of increasing literacy, rallied employees in partnership with ‘Youth for People’ to distribute over 5,000 notebooks to 1,000 children based in the Nilmati province in 2017. The activity will be replicated again this year. Kodak will this year also establish a new partnership with Room to Read, a global non-profit organization focused on literacy and girls’ education in low-income countries. Working with Room to Read, Kodak will support the establishment of Room to Read’s Literacy Program at a primary school in Rajasthan, India, bringing the community access to a safe and child-friendly learning environment, with books in the children’s local language, as well as teachers and librarians who are trained in the best practices of reading and writing instruction.

The future for Kodak in India Komal Sharma concludes: “The print and printed packaging industry in India has a bright future, and Kodak will continue to play a key part in it. Printers are diversifying and aligning with trusted global technology partners with offerings that allow them to differentiate themselves and deliver economic benefits. Our commitment to our customers in India has stood the test of time and we will continue to bring leading, cuttingedge technology enabling them to meet their respective customers’ evolving needs and demands efficiently for years to come.”

class in China, continuous demands for packaging printing products will be driven forward. “In fact, the packaging printing market in China is facing some challenges similar to those encountered in developed countries, e.g. increasing demands for spot color and special effects, higher demands for standardized production, diversified job orders with increasingly shorter run length and faster delivery time, higher requirements on flexibility and OEE (overall equipment effectiveness). It is time ‘to think out of the box’”, explained Benny Huang, CEO of Heidelberg Greater China, in his opening speech. Heidelberg provides suitable solutions to address the above issues. With the “Smart Print Shop” concept, print shops are able to use smart, intelligently networked production environments to achieve an outstanding performance. Thus the way is paved for navigated and autonomous printing, with efficient production and completing ever shorter job runs profitably, as well as much less manual interventions, lower error rate and lower waste.

German Brand Award for Koenig & Bauer Koenig & Bauer receives high accolade for brand management in press manufacturing. Koenig & Bauer was one of the winners of a German Brand Award 2018. This prestigious prize was awarded for the third time by the German Design Council and the German Brand Institute. It recognises innovative brands, consistent brand management and sustainable brand communication. The aim of the award is to discover and present new brand trends. The press manufacturer with headquarters in Würzburg won the jury over with the Koenig & Bauer brand’s traditional-modern central theme – factual and modern in appearance, but also a reminder of the company’s two founding fathers, who laid the foundations of press engineering more than 200 years ago. “We are proud to have received this high distinction,” says Dagmar Ringel, director of corporate communications and marketing at Koenig & Bauer. “Our cutting-edge umbrella brand shows clearly what our company stands for – the union of tradition and innovation in press engineering.” Initiator of the German Brand Award is the German Design Council which was founded in 1953 based on the initiative of the German Bundestag by the Federation of German Industries and some leading companies as a foundation to promote the competence of the German economy in design issues. Together with brand consultancy GMK Markenberatung this resulted in the German

Brand Institute, which awards the coveted prize annually. The award recognises the commitment to the competitiveness of strong brands and is intended to raise awareness of brand management and brand communication as entrepreneurial success factors. The German Brand Award honours the contributions of outstanding brand management and brand communication in the competition categories “Excellence in Branding”, “Industry Excellence in Branding” and “Excellence in Brand Strategy,

Management and Creation”. All award winners were nominated in advance either by the German Brand Institute, its brand scouts or a panel of experts. The interdisciplinary jury is made up of representatives from the fields of business and science. Koenig & Bauer received a so-called special mention in the category “Industry, Machines & Engineering” for its new brand relaunch implemented in autumn 2017 on the occasion of the traditional company’s 200th jubilee. The prizes were awarded at an official gala ceremony on 21 June 2018 in Berlin.

dna – drupa next age “dip!” becomes “dna – drupa next age”. Something new is produced by genetic reshuffling. This basic principle of evolution also holds true of technology as an unconventional synthesis of existing approaches leading to innovation. Things become particularly productive when great minds that otherwise have little in common swap ideas. A world’s leading trade fair such as drupa in Düsseldorf starting 16 June, 2020, is an ideal meeting point that brings the crème de la crème of the printing and packaging industry together. We are creating a new special area to attract the right experts: dna – drupa next age. This special show-in-show will focus on content that is relevant for the industry’s

future and will encourage a productive exchange between global players, start-ups and innovative SMEs. dna – drupa next age itself is the result of an evolutionary process. Embedded in a new hall concept, this special area builds on the start-up section that our drupa innovation park (dip!) represented in the past. dna will give new innovators the chance to present ideas for new products, services and new approaches in relevant interdisciplinary technologies – either as best practices or business cases. Participants will contribute their DNA and enrich the technological gene pool of

the printing and packaging industry and thus continually feeding its progress. We are convinced that this meeting point will become a nucleus for new technologies and innovation, because swapping ideas, fusing know-how and the smart integration of new technologies always begins with encounters between people. These encounters will have a new home at drupa 2020: dna – drupa next age.

Printall AS upgrades with new Q.I. Press Controls automation system The company decides in QIPC system’s favour for its being quicker and more reliable than their current automation system. The Estonian-based printing concern Printall AS is set to intensify its collaboration with Q.I. Press Controls (QIPC), the Dutch specialist in measurement and control systems for the printing industry. The Koenig & Bauer Compacta heatset printing press in its Tallinn plant is to be equipped with a new automation system supplied by QIPC.

Reliable partner Cooperation between Printall AS and QIPC is not new: in 2003 an IRS system for cut-off control was installed on a Koenig & Bauer Continent press in Estonia. “Over time, we have come to know QIPC as a reliable partner,” says Andrus Takkin, Chairman of the board at Printall AS, when asked about his experiences with the Oosterhout-based company. Printall AS has been able to witness for itself exactly why QIPC systems on Koenig & Bauer presses have such a good reputation worldwide. “Our relationship with both Printall AS and Koenig & Bauer is very good,” explains Erwin van Rossem, Head of Sales at QIPC. “In fact, Koenig & Bauer recommended our automation solution to Printall AS. It was partly on the basis of

this and their own experience that they were then able to take a well-considered decision. A fact-finding visit to Drukkerij Em. De Jong in the Netherlands helped confirm Printall’s expectations of the system.”

that from 1000 to 1200 revolutions on startup, we can get to 1000,” explains Erwin van Rossem. “What’s more, we can look forward to 15% savings in waste.”

High expectations and major opportunities

The Koenig & Bauer Compacta is now being installed with the mRC-3D and IDS-3D system for register, cut-off and colour control. “This system will work more effectively and reliably than the current automation on the press,” Andrus Takkin reports. “In terms of price and functionality, QIPC’s quote was the most attractive alternative.” In total, five motorised mRC-3D cameras and two IDS3D cameras are being installed in Tallinn. In addition, Printall AS also need a smaller colour bar than normal. For that reason, QIPC is supplying a 2-mm high colour bar with an integrated register mark. “Our expectation is

Printall AS, founded in 1971, is one of the largest printing companies in the Baltic states. The plant in Tallinn produces all kinds of printed matter, from newspapers to brochures. This intensive cooperation with QIPC is generating high expectations and will lead to major opportunities. “We already had automation systems on all our presses,” explains Andrus Takkin. “But soon we will have the latest and most efficient control system.” Erwin van Rossem is optimistic: “This provides our systems with an opportunity to prove themselves on the Baltic market.”

July 2018

Iridesse, the name, is a play on the word ‘iridescence’ – meaning the phenomenon of certain surfaces that appear to gradually change colour as the angle of view or the angle of illumination change. It is synonymous with visual effects beyond CMYK that amplify page content and captivate recipients – all delivered with flexible, single-pass printing. Broadening horizons with a vast colour palette, wide media flexibility and high value inline finishing, the

Iridesse press is synonymous with new capabilities and new levels of production confidence. Since, it comes standard with Color FLX Technology, customers can achieve the kind of flexible spot and mixed specialty effects that meets the growing demand, hence making it easy to create high impact prints – more results-driving, “wow”/excellence per page. Additionally, Xerox FreeFlow Core’s pre-built workflows enable print providers to automatically and selectively transform text and graphics for printing gold and silver without editing the source documents. This simplifies enhancing existing applications with high-value embellishments. Printing at speeds up to 120 pages per minute, the press can run stocks from 52 -400 gsm. Additional press features include: • The High Definition Emulsion Aggregate (HD EA) Toner process results in the optimal particle size to deliver lower gloss, smooth tints and fine detail more consistently • The Xerox EX-P 6 Print Server by Fiery® enables customers to create customized workflows for metallic applications with advanced RIP

capabilities and color management tools Two Dual Advanced High Capacity Feeders, Bypass and Inserter options let customers run up to eight different stocks in a single job, or do production runs with a total of 12,500 sheets A variety of finishing options are available including the new Xerox Crease and Two-sided Trimmer, which creates a durable crease fold and gives booklets a premium quality edge when used with the Xerox Production Ready Booklet Maker Finisher and Xerox SquareFold Trimmer Modules.

Creating more opportunities for print Xerox Iridesse, a one of its kind press, with robust production capabilities, enables its users to take on complex jobs, irrespective of tight deadlines, non-traditional stock sizes, weights, and embellishments. “We believe that it is capable of expanding capabilities while simultaneously simplifying production,” says Balaji Rajagopalan, Executive DirectorTechnology, Channels & International Business, Xerox India. The automated, advanced technologies combine to take costly human touch out of press setup and the complementary workflow solutions further simplify key processes, making it an incredibly smart business Investment. Combined with a robust print path, versatile finishing options, and up to 120 pages per minute, this all will add up to brilliant new opportunities for high-value print production and create new revenue streams. Here are few examples of how people across fields are made capable of giving each job a brilliant finish, with the new Iridesse press. • For a designer, vibrant colours, high quality and intricate details are absolutely critical. This device makes designing and printing of high-value jobs cost-effective. Its ability to lay metallic sheens over normal colours and create beautiful iridescent effects, adds a new level of intensity to normal jobs. • For a marketer, it is important for the products to look their best in printed materials. Adding silver, gold or enhanced imagery, gives the products a competitive edge and attract more customers.

Color FLX Technology with EZ Swap allows printing beyond CMYK Color FLX Technology with EZ Swap allows printing beyond CMYK with vibrant iridescent palettes and “spot on” registration. “The FLX technology provides a unique flexibility, wherein the customer can choose from different types of overlay and underlay that can be printed with CMYK to create variety of effects like, spot, glitter, shine, iridescent etc. The customer has a choice to underlay silver and overlay it with clear ink or gold. Alternatively, he can choose to underlay gold and overlay with clear or silver. All these examples have CMYK printing between the 2 layers. However, this technology also provides a unique flexibility that can expand the application horizon – it allows the customer to just print gold and silver,” explains Balaji.

Specialty Dry Inks help customers outshine their competition Xerox Specialty Dry Inks — including Metallic and Clear — help customers outshine their competition by adding incredible value to their digital prints. The newest Specialty Dry Inks allow users to migrate more jobs to digital, creating silver and gold metallic effects with images, artwork, logos, text, seals, and personalized communications. “It enables them to highlight logos and graphic elements with stunning metallic effects, enhance the look of photos and collateral with metallic image overlays and bring the eye-catching value of metallic inks to personalized communications to add even more pop to their jobs. On the other hand, the Xerox Clear Dry Ink allows our customers to add new dimensions to output using spot, flood, or textured effects,” adds Balaji. Across the industry, most people who provide print, design and marketing services, aspire to work on projects that involves specialty effects, however, the added cost and time is usually a deterrent. With the Xerox Iridesse Production Press, Xerox aims to change that perception and to offer customers the embellishments they want, cost-effectively, with the speed, personalization, and turnaround advantages of digital print.

Customers benefit from Mixed Media Xceleration of Iridesse Mixed Media Xceleration (MMX) of Iridesse

delivers maximum productivity and performance for high-value, mixed stock and mixed embellishment jobs. Technologies integrated throughout the press ensure superior performance for mixed or specialty stock jobs up to 400 gsm. This capability ensures our customers are ready for the most challenging job requests. Two chained Dual Advanced High Capacity Feeders, coupled with our Bypass and Inserter options, lets our customers run up to eight different stocks in a single job – or a maximum of 12,500 sheets. The press has been designed to handle multiple stocks, imaged with up to six colours, and finished at rated speed so they can offer complex digital embellishments with supreme confidence. Xerox will provide direct service support for Iridesse in India.

The Xerox Versant 180 and its growth path According to latest IDC report (2018), Xerox market share has grown 19% 2018 Q1 YoY and 26% 2018 Q1 vs. Q4 2017 in the production printer market. This talks volumes about Xerox dominance in the production space. The launch of the new Versant 180 powered with Performance pack is in continuation to the tremendous success of Versant family. These mid-production-colour presses consist of a unique combination of higher image quality, greater media latitude and higher duty cycles for more productivity and performances. “With the Versant 180, Xerox clients have been able to advance and automate, allowing them to do more. From press maintenance to job delivery, the Versant 180 has been delivering class-leading performance for in-plant and on-demand print shops,” informs Balaji. “Since, the Xerox Versant family has already established a merit in productivity, automation and media flexibility and we have seen a great response in the market, we are excited to launch the Xerox Versant 180 press powered with Performance Pack enables fully productivity with an ability to print at rated speed up to 350gsm. In addition it has an Automated Color Quality Suite (ACQS) powered by X Rite that helps in better color consistency. It also gives 25% faster speeds on stocks up to 350 GSM,” he continues.

pressideas/ digital

Performance Package of Versant 180 It is another variant of our very successful Versant series, where the customer has the ability to print rated speeds (Speed does not drop and you get superior performance) and has an inline spectrophotometer for automatic calibration. Additionally, the machine comes with an external fiery FS 200 pro for better colour management and performance. The production ready finisher helps finish the jobs into stapled sets. It also has a strong decurler that straightens the paper after it has run through the fuser. All these features boost performance and productivity.

Digital inkjet vs. Toner based technology “Inkjet technology is still at its nascent stage when compared to toner technology,” believes Balaji. “The full utilization of inkjet will come into being when we can have more substrate compatibility on high speed inkjet devices without the need for any coating on the paper. The inkjet technology has viable benefits in terms of operating costs on low color coverage area jobs. Also, the quality of high speed inkjet devices have to walk some distance before they match the quality of toner presses which has evolved over the years,” he adds. The digital printing market in India has evolved over the years and there are several drivers contributing to this growth: the rise of applications and solutions; increased versioning and personalization to make targeted printing for end-users; improved levels of service to customers; and providing new opportunities to help customers grow their business. Also, the digital presses with the technological advancement ensure ease of printing as well as space and cost effectiveness. These days doing business on the go is the need of the hour. Innovation being the backbone of digital presses, the feature of remote printing has been very well accepted by the customers and this has surely led to a spike in their adoption. “Xerox sits at the intersection of analogue and digital and we are in a position to witness and impact several profound shifts in the way the world interact. Our ability to combine hardware and software has never been more valuable than in today’s world where digitization is blurring the lines between

26

July 2018

hardware and software, and connecting the digital and physical worlds to transform industries. For example, if you see our digital presses, they are segmented in a way that customers can customize digital and analogue settings based on their business needs, enabling the machine to add value to their business,” emphasises Balaji. The fundamental principal of all Xerox devices is its ease of usability. “Xerox takes care of imparting trainings to the operators and gives advanced level of support for creation of new jobs, ensuring the customers are comfortable with the device and its applications. Our production ethos is to get great quality as quickly as possible. To meet this requirement, a variety of automation tools are added on the press in addition to a control centre, which allows easy management of the jobs. This includes jQuick job set ups, pre-press caches and a superior RIP that can be handled via simple commands,” elaborates Balaji.

Iridesse as an digital enhancement press Xerox launched the new Iridesse Production press at PrintExpo in June 2018 and the response received has been overwhelming. In fact, we installed the first machine within the launch month and closed another order at the Expo. With capabilities like high speed, six station colour press that combines four-colour printing with up to two specialty dry inks in one printing pass, makes the Xerox Iridesse Production Press an industry first in the world of print. It is the only digital

press that can print metallic gold or silver dry ink, CMYK and clear dry ink in a single pass, giving print providers an immediate competitive edge in the growing digital print enhancement market,” explains Balaji. The digital enhancement (CMYK +) market is expected to reach a volume of 25 Billion A4 impressions by 2020. More importantly, the consumers in this market are ready to pay a premium ranging between 24% to 89%, thereby increasing the profit potential of the PSP by 400%. “Currently, this embellishment is done by multiple processes. For example, you print the sheet digitally or on an offset press and then use another digital or embellishment machine for the post processing. Today, the Xerox Iridesse Production press is an industry first – it prints CMYK and does the embellishment in one pass without the need for any change or stopovers, all at a speed of 120 PPM. No other press can give this application versatility and flexibility. It saves you time, effort and a lot of money,” concludes Balaji.

FINAT is this year celebrating its 60th year and FINAT President Chris Ellison, Managing Director of a true family label company, OPM Group welcomed delegates noting that the association’s milestone, pales into insignificance if compared to that of Arthur Guinness, whose central Dublin brewery was opened in 1759 – with a 9000-year lease. A visit to the Guinness Storehouse followed that evening. The working agenda began with keynote speaker, Alastair Campbell – writer, TV commentator, author and strategist, and well-remembered as UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s director of communications. His headline topic for this multinational meeting was ‘The Elephant in the Room’ – Brexit and implications for EU/UK B2B relations.’ The extant lack of clarity on the UK’s final proposals for its departure, and the likely situation that might follow the UK’s exit from the European Union, were shared in an address that explored all the options, all the possibilities, and all the shortcomings. Afterwards, participants were able to share their own views on the topic with coffee around the extensive tabletop exhibition. Gavin Killeen, Managing Director of Nuprint

Technologies Ltd – leading Northern Ireland suppliers of labels and packaging print – reviewed the current Irish marketplace and showed that Ireland’s strong history in self-adhesive labelling, remains lively today. He underpinned its commitment to the industry by sharing its strong programme of staff training and apprenticeships, R&D and technology support, including the EU-funded PhD project with Glasgow University investigating printed conductive inks and related opportunities.

European label market data FINAT MD Jules Lejeune provided an update on the broader European label industry picture, which has exhibited a strong recovery since 2012. The association’s data confirmed healthy 4.7% industry

addressed by a multi-discliplinary panel of industry experts – Jakob Abilgaard, of Dan Labels Flexible Packaging Division; Robert Rae, of GEW; and Niklas Olsson, Flint Group Narrow Web and also chairman of the ELF’s overall programme committee.

growth in 2017 over prior year (which, however, was below the average growth rate of 5.4%, 2013-2016), with film-based labelstocks growing at an even higher rate – 8.2% over prior year. The top 15 label market countries in Europe represent a massive 90% of the total business, and the statistics affirm that Turkey, Poland, and Italy have enjoyed the largest increase in absolute volumes between 2010 and 2017. Again, the influence of Brexit has made itself felt in the UK, with consumption in decline since Q3 2017, unlike the other top-performing European country markets. He also discussed the recent issue of FINAT’s regular member publication, RADAR.

The future landscape Andy Thomas-Emans, Strategic Director, Tarsus Labels &Packaging Group, went on to map out the evolving current industry landscape and the next five years, examining in particular the growing crossover for label converters between label print and other packaging print options. The FINAT RADAR research, he referenced, indicates that the production of flexible packaging pouches is already an additional capability for 19% of label converters; sleeves for 31% of survey respondents; and other flexible packaging items for 27% of them. He went on to highlight issues and opportunities in converting; the health and safety problems around solvents; energy-efficient UV flexo print; and, of course, digital print. He also introduced the industry’s groundbreaking UVFoodSafe group, embracing major suppliers and related professional associations across the converting value chain, who are committed to making UV and UV/LED curing fully appropriate for food packaging print. He concluded with confirmation that Labelexpo has expanded to become a package print show.

A novel approach to on-pack promotion Packaging professional and author Keran Turakhia gave an offbeat and thoughtprovoking presentation looking at the ways converters and their clients can benefit financially from thinking outside – and inside! – the box, to create innovative messaging opportunities. With real-life case histories, he showed how his own thinking has successfully changed packaging from just being a cost, to helping a brand to take advantage of new on-pack promotional opportunities, particularly with digital print. ‘Rethink packaging’ is the motto of rlcPackaging, whose managing director, Marc Büttgenbach, moderated an expert panel discussion featuring all the morning’s industry presenters, enabling delegates to explore the topics in further detail.

Hands-on business learning sessions A networking lunch preceded an interesting afternoon of concurrent ‘hands on’ ‘business learning sessions’ on different and important aspects of today’s market. Jennifer Dochstader and David Walsh of marketing researchers LPC Inc looked at how ‘going digital’ has impacted both converters and brand owners, updating the findings of their FINAT-commissioned report on digital label printing. James Bevan, founder and director of specialist product authentication and security consulting house Vandagraf looked at the latest trends and developments, focusing on taggants and forensic solutions. Food safety and migration issues in the wider world of labels and flexible packaging were

Sean Smyth, print consultant at Smithers Pira, discussed the total cost of ownership of ‘alternative’ label printing technologies. Business marketing strategist Bert van Loon guided his audience through modern ROI methods for marketing to deliver improved results in online B2B marketing; and Dieter Moessner, project engineer, pharma, at Edelmann, examined compliance with the new EU Falsified Medicals Directive which comes into effect in February 2019, in terms of serialization and tamper-evidence.

Profiling the upcoming generations For an audience composed of leaders across the packaging print value chain, the second day’s programme was strongly and appropriately focused on management issues, and opened by best-selling author and CEO of XYZ University Sarah Sladek, who deliberated on the key label industry topic of driving stronger engagement with the younger generations in the quest for new, young business talent. Since, between 2010 and 2020, 78% of the ‘baby boomers’ will turn 65, and 25% of ‘millennials’ will move into leadership roles, the need of their younger-generation successors must be met because there has, as she showed, been more in change in lifestyle and attitudes in the last few decades than in the whole of history. This state of affairs has created, and continues to create, many workforce issues– not the least of which are the availability of skilled labour; retiring company founders; and leadership change. Little is being done to control and manage these issues – and a completely new approach from employer organisations is needed, because today’s most successful, engaging leaders have the same three special traits in common: passion, humility, and urgency.

Generational handover, familyowned companies Bert van Loon carried the topic further, leading a lively debate on the next-generation challenges for, specifically, label converters in Europe because, he said, ‘the label industry has a vast interest in successful

generation handover of family-owned converter companies’. Would the alternative to successful generation change be more consolidation, with resultant reductions in innovation?

The power of Guinness The audience then welcomed Emma Rochford, Global Marketing Manager for Guinness, and Kathryn Wilson, Design Lead for Guinness and Baileys at Diageo. The trend for premium and craft beers is creating a pressing need for high-quality branding and, while Guinness is a global brand with local flair, Rupert Guinness was right to say, back in 1929: ‘the quality of our advertising must equal the quality of our beer!’. FINAT delegates were then invited to contribute to the future embellishment and sustainability of Guinness’s packaging.

Eyes wide open In the conference’s final keynote, business guru, writer, and broadcaster Prof Noreena

Herz delivered an eye-opening seminar on ‘how to make smart decisions in a complex world’. In this age of disruption - which includes the potential effects of Brexit. She shared insights into the upcoming new generation of potential employees, generation K - 15 to 24 year olds - and profiled what they care about, how they behave, what they want, and how they consume plus just how different they are to millennials. She left the audience with thoughts on how her insights can improve their businesses.

‘A bright future’ FINAT President Chris Ellison closed the event stating: “We are an industry that has such a bright future, and we don’t always realise it’. We’re also a very, very, very passionate industry!” The forum also hosted the formal FINAT General Assembly and the FINAT Label Awards Ceremony which celebrated worthy

winners in this year’s well-supported label printing competition and its associated recycling and sustainability award. Vlad Sljapic, Xeikon’s Vice President, Global Sales, was Master of Ceremonies. A networking dinner followed, bringing together key players from the international labels & packaging print sector. The next FINAT European Label Forum will take place in June next year in Copenhagen, from 5-7 June. FINAT, founded in Paris in 1958 with headquarters in The Hague (The Netherlands), is the worldwide association for manufacturers of self-adhesive labels and related products and services. With more some 550 members in over 50 countries around the world, FINAT has much to offer to label converters and all suppliers to the labelling industry in terms of information exchange and in terms of international networking.

Bosch to sell its packaging business New owner sought for further growth. Faced with the need to transform, Bosch wants to focus its resources. Bosch has decided to look for a buyer for its packaging machinery business (PA), more specifically the pharmaceuticals and food units of the Packaging Technology division. Eyeing strategic transformation, the Bosch finds Packaging technology is not part of the group’s core business. PA is involved in project business relating to specialized areas of the packaging industry. Bosch believes its packaging technology operations need to be put on a different footing that will allow them to react more flexibly to the specific requirements of the packaging machinery market. The company’s special-purpose machinery manufacturer Robert Bosch Manufacturing Solutions GmbH is a separate entity, and will remain part of the Bosch Group. and its efficient team behind it. “This decision will allow Bosch to narrow its focus on issues of importance for its future, such as the transformation of the Bosch Group and its future digitalization strategy, including the internet of things, and to pool its resources accordingly,” says Dr. Stefan Hartung, the Bosch board of management member responsible for the Energy and Building Technology and Industrial Technology business sectors. “Both PA and Bosch will benefit from this decision. A reorganized packaging technology business will be able to adapt more flexibly to the diverse requirements of this typically SME market, while Bosch will be free to focus its attention entirely on the group’s impending profound transformation,” Hartung adds.

Good products and rising demand Enjoying technologically excellent reputation in various industries, Bosch packaging machinery is known for its novel approaches

“My colleagues in PA executive management and I are confident of future business success. We’re one of the biggest companies in our industry, and the path we have chosen is clearly the right one. We will stay together as a strong and stable unit. Under new ownership as well, our tried and tested team will continue to provide our customers with excellent manufacturing solutions and services,” says Dr. Stefan König, chairman of the managing board of Robert Bosch Packaging Technology GmbH. “PA has always led a largely independent existence within the Bosch Group, and will in the future be able to respond even better to the requirements of the packaging industry. Our customers will benefit from this.” Presently, under new management, the PA units are in a good position to serve the growing market. In the years ahead, the company expects to see increasing demand. With its many technological USPs, the pharmaceuticals unit is developing

encouragingly and growing. The food unit has strengthened its core areas, and intends to further expand its market position. PA currently employs some 6,100 associates in its global packaging technology operations. Its aim is for all its associates and locations to be retained by the eventual buyer. The Bosch Group employs roughly 402,000 associates worldwide (as of December 31, 2017). The company generated sales of 78.1 billion euros in 2017. Its operations are divided into four business sectors: Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology. The Bosch Group comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its roughly 440 subsidiary and regional companies in 60 countries. Including sales and service partners, Bosch’s global manufacturing, engineering, and sales network covers nearly every country in the world. The basis for the company’s future growth is its innovative strength. At 125 locations across the globe, Bosch employs some 64,500 associates in research and development. The company was set up in Stuttgart in 1886 by Robert Bosch (1861-1942) as “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering.”

Firstan streamlines production processes with Esko-to-EFI integration New solution addresses key market pressures by reducing errors and increasing efficiency for a Packaging Connected workflow. Firstan has successfully piloted a newly developed interface between Esko’s Automation Engine Connect and EFI’s Radius software applications. The pilot at one of UK’s leading independent pharmaceutical packaging and food packaging manufacturers comes two years after Firstan’s £7m investment in two Komori 18,000sph presses – a six-colour Lithrone GLX640 and a multi-unit Lithrone GLX40RP, and a Bobst Expertcut die cutting blanking machine. Established in 1976, Firstan employs 140 and has a turnover of £24m. The company produces one billion cartons a year and has two main divisions – Firstan Pharmaceutical, which develops and manufactures pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging, and Firstan Quality Packaging, which supplies food, confectionery, cosmetics and beverage cartons and sleeves. It prides itself on its award winning in-house design and repro studio, and utilises the latest production machinery. It has an optimum factory workflow, and, with the combination of Esko’s Automation Engine and EFI’s Radius packaging MIS solution, delivers marketleading quality and service. The company was also the first UK packaging printer to become a press SIGN Offset Standard (POS) certified printer, which signifies it has the skills, equipment and knowledge to produce consistent colour quality. It was also the first in the UK to achieve PS9000:2010 for the supply of pharmaceutical packaging. It was ISO 14001 certified in 2012. Esko and EFI joined forces for the benefit of their mutual customers such as Firstan to develop a solution that would enhance functionality for the label and folding carton market segments. “There were two primary drivers for our discussions,” stated Lieven Plettinck, Esko’s Director Software Engineering, “process efficiency and error reduction.”

many companies experience excessive administrative overhead that negatively affects profitability and can even cause more time to be spent on administrative tasks than actual print production. By optimizing processes so data is only entered once, flowing automatically from the MIS system to prepress, not only are administrative processes more efficient, but there is also much less opportunity for human error. “By addressing these two drivers simultaneously in partnership with EFI, we have been able to address these challenges more rapidly, with development taking only four months,” Plettinck added. The result is a bundled solution that can be deployed in just five days, as proven by the Firstan pilot project. We appreciate the effort Firstan put into the pilot project. Their insight and guidance was invaluable.” Since every company has different needs, Plettinck was quick to highlight that the bundled solution can also be easily modified to address individual and specific needs, as was accomplished for Firstan. Dean Murden, Firstan’sIT Manager, confirmed the value of the integration, saying,“This was essentially a time saving and risk reduction exercise. We had duplicate data entry going on across both Esko and EFI Radius systems. They were effectively siloed solutions. Formerly, artwork approval status required manual updates in Radius. This integration enables us to make use of a much more automated workflow, from receipt of artwork through to step and repeat, whilst also reducing risk due to data entry error.” Hazel Hocknell, Firstan’s Pre-Press Manager, adds, “We’re still in the trial stages with the pilot project, but we are confident that this solution will ultimately enable our prepress department to become fully automated. This is a massive step towards a paperless workflow that will make a huge difference for our business.”

collaboration, including frequent progress updates and an openness to taking Firstan’s feedback into consideration during the development process. “Teams from both companies are knowledgeable, efficient, and have collaborated in an extremely open and positive way to develop a workflow that meets our specification,” he remarked. Kevin Blakey EFI Product Director, Packaging adds: “EFI hasenjoyed a highly positive relationship with both Firstan and Esko for a number of years, and this project represents an exciting step forward for the packaging industry. We are very proud to have been part of this project to deliver a highly optimized print production workflow.” With the integration of Automation Engine with EFI Radius, Esko has taken another important step toward creating a Packaging Connected workflow that will help move the packaging industry into a more automated future. Seamlessly connecting the workflow and power of Automation Engine with EFI Radius through an out-of-the-box approach to implementation enables rapid deployment and speedy return on investment through increased time savings and reduced errors. This standard integration solution is now commercially available.

Packaging Connected Plettinck points out that with print runs getting shorter and cycle times getting tighter,

Hotter than lava flow – this printing ink can withstand 1000° C. A stream of red lava can run as high as between 600 and 900 degrees. And things can get even hotter in industrial settings – for example, in a ceramic furnace. Only very few inks for component-marking with CIJ printers can withstand these extreme temperatures. With this in mind, marking and coding specialist Paul Leibinger GmbH & Co. KG from Tuttlingen has introduced a pigment ink to the market, which allows a clear typeface even at 1000° C. Summer in Germany is well underway. And the thermometer has already cracked the 30 degree mark on several occasions. But this is nothing compared to a furnace where ceramic components for industrial applications harden – such as spark plugs, insulators and cutting tools. Inside, temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Celsius are reached – even hotter in fact than a stream of red lava with temperatures of between 600 to 900 degrees Celsius. Leibinger developed a heat-resistant ink for the JET3up PI. The CIJ printer marks products without touching them. These high temperatures represent a real challenge for printing inks with which manufacturers mark the components even before firing. “The danger is that the ink burns in the furnace and dissolves into soot. The typeface, such as a model number, would no longer be readable, so the component would be rejected,” explains Christina Leibinger, Managing Proprietor of Leibinger. “That’s exactly why we developed a new ink for our JET3up PI CIJ printer, which ensures a reliably readable typeface with high contrasts even at temperatures of up to 1000° C.” Not only ceramics can be printed, but also metal and glass; for example, in the production of light bulbs and halogen lamps. The printing ink is now available and compatible with the Leibinger JET3up PI CIJ printer.

Ink consists of floating, heatresistant paint particles Heat-resistant ink is a pigmented ink. Black color particles float in a medium – unlike a dye ink in which the dye is dissolved in the medium and evaporates immediately

38

at extreme temperatures. The experts succeeded in modifying the pigment ink’s particles and medium in such a way that they can withstand heat of up to 1000 degrees Celsius – unscathed. They also found a way to keep the particles in suspension through chemical stabilization. This slows down the so-called sedimentation process, in which the pigments settle. Additionally, the JET3up PI CIJ printer incorporates a stirring mechanism that continuously mixes the ink. “The combination of chemical stabilization and stirring mechanics ensures a reliable and low-maintenance labeling system.”

Up to 120 million characters per tank filling The heat-resistant pigment ink is designed for the JET3up PI – a printer that marks products without contact using the socalled Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) technology. In the printhead, an ink jet, consisting of up to 96,000 electrically charged single drops per second,

shoots through a nozzle. When printing, a high-voltage field changes the trajectory of individual drops, so that they end up as pixels on the product surface. The remaining drops fly into a catcher tube, and are sucked back into the continuously circulating hydraulic circuit and used there. The printing technology is fast enough to keep up with conveyor belt speeds of up to 10 m/s and is also extremely cost-effective. The CIJ printer can print up to 120 million letters with one single liter of ink.

The key factors driving investment were – expanding business, customer demands for new products, upgrading/replacing older equipment, reducing costs, and adding capacity.

Increasing demand for short turnaround Job turnaround requirements for wide format print work are becoming shorter and shorter. The survey reveals that the majority of wide format work is produced in less than 24 hours. Interestingly, the demand for fast turnaround is expected to increase. Many key wide format buying industries (e.g., retail, advertising, events, and real estate) require fast turnaround because they are faced with staff constraints, compressed communication production cycles, and short delivery windows for finished signage. Moreover, digital wide format printing has changed print buyers’ expectations for fast turnaround. While certain types of wide format jobs (e.g., store remodels, large regional/national promotions, or events) have a long sales cycle, they will tend to have a short production cycle. Print buyers want to see the effects of their campaigns and change out signage more frequently as a result.

Top applications by technology The report reveals that wide format applications are becoming increasingly diverse, providing many opportunities for new entrants that are hoping to expand their offerings as well as for established sign, graphics, and visual communications companies that want to increase their market share. Banners, vehicle graphics, signs, and wallpaper/interiors have been identified as the most profitable applications in the survey.

A key benefit of wide format devices is they can print on a wide variety of media types. This is especially true for flatbed printing devices, as they can print directly on materials like wood, metal, plastic, glass, fabric, and many other options. Wide format media is either flexible or rigid. According to our survey respondents, 76% of wide format output was produced on flexible media and 24% was on rigid media.

respondents have not yet invested in workflow tools to improve inefficiencies and automation (Figure 5). Respondents reported high ownership of color management software, likely because color profiling is essential given the wide range of substrates that are used. Workflow management is an important software category that is largely overlooked in this industry; most operations do not own workflow management software. Commercial printers and ad specialty providers were more likely than the other company types to report owning workflow. It is worth noting that workflow software is firmly entrenched among commercial printers, largely because it is required for efficient production of the products that these companies offer.

Workflow management software automates production processes, and it is needed to process an increasing number of jobs and efficiently support online ordering. As wide format printers increase in speed, prepress and finishing are often the workflow bottlenecks. A key remaining bottleneck in prepress is file handling, which is often completed by hand. Shops must automate to improve their customer experience and remain competitive. Online ordering with automated passthrough to the rest of production is key. Resources (materials, machines, and people) must also be optimized. Sheet optimization via nesting/ganging of work to save material costs and production times offers quick cost savings that typically range from $8,000 to $13,000. Another software category that many wide format providers are ignoring is the print management information system (MIS). A print MIS is the single system of record used to store and share business-critical information within the print shop as well as to all external constituents in a timely and efficient manner. A properly implemented print MIS solution functions as the pulse and brain of a print shop. Using an MIS system offers many benefits, including more accurate estimates, better job tracking, and identifying areas that need improvement.

Sign and display graphics is a growing market that offers many opportunities across a variety of industries. Print providers that are seeking to expand their product offerings should consider offering sign and display graphics, and companies that are already offering these products may have an opportunity to increase their market share by expanding their product lines or entering new market segments.

1st European EFI VUTEk HS125 F4 Inkjet press installation FLYERALARM extends product portfolio with increased flexibility, speed and quality for digital large-format printing. Electronics for Imaging has installed Europe’s first EFI VUTEk HS125 F4 hybrid flatbed/roll-to-roll inkjet press at FLYERALARM GmbH in Würzburg, Germany. The press will give the print service provider more flexibility in responding to customer requests. FLYERALARM, one of the largest online printing companies in Europe, is expanding its already extensive product portfolio with the new hybrid press and is increasing its productivity in the large-format printing (LFP) sector. “Thanks to the great flexibility of the machine with regard to the range of materials, we will now be able to offer our customers additional and even more personalised products,” said Igor Zanovskiy, managing director of the Large Format Printing department at FLYERALARM.

High-speed printing with stateof-the-art technology FLYERLARM is using the state-of-the-art technology in the VUTEk HS125 F4 to satisfy the demand from the high number of LFP customers as quickly as possible. The company sends out approximately 3,000 packages per day to the LFP sector alone. The products, which are primarily ordered online via the FLYERALARM web shop, include awnings, banners, roll-ups, displays, sheets, signs, exhibition equipment, car wraps, adhesive foils and more.

With its eight colour channels arranged in a dual CMYK configuration, the new VUTEk HS125 F4 can reach output speeds of up to 225 boards per hour, increasing FLYERALARM’s productivity. Company executives remark that the press offers excellent print quality. “Using greyscale printing with variable droplet size, we can offer our customers a quality advantage,” said Zanovskiy. Even fine-art quality printing is possible with the EFI VUTEk HS125 F4 in slower printing modes.

Individual products in focus Another important considered feature when purchasing the press was its excellent flexibility. For example, it can print on a range of different media. In the future, FLYERALARM plans to offer even more bespoke products alongside its standard products to customers, 90 percent of which come from the B2B sector. “Our bespoke department already deals

with our customers’ special requests. With the new EFI machine, we now have the opportunity to gradually expand this service and to expand the range with many new products at the same time,” said Igor Zanovskiy. FLYERALARM is further accommodated by the fact that the new machine has very short set-up times, so substrates or print settings can be changed rapidly if required. As a result, the company can produce very small quantities and even bespoke jobs profitably.

EFI as a strong partner The online printing company was founded in 2002 and is active in 15 countries in Europe and has more than 2,000 employees. It has been providing products to the LFP sector for ten years. In 2012, FLYERALARM invested in its first large- format digital printing system from EFI, a VUTEk printer that is still in use every day. Installation of the new VUTEk press went smoothly – “As with all EFI systems in the company,” said Zanovskiy. As FLYERALARM works around the clock, the company places a high value on having robust digital printing systems. The new VUTEk machine is perfect for long-term and continuous operation and is equipped with the early warning and detection systems to minimise downtime and scrap. EFI’s strong service offering was another key factor in FLYERALARM’s decision to add another VUTEk. “The fact that we have already invested in a fourth large format printing system from EFI speaks for itself,” said Zanovskiy. “With EFI, we have a strong and reliable partner by our side, who also knows what is important for print service providers like us.”

Labelexpo India to host industry forums across South Asia The organizers of Labelexpo India 2018 are hosting a series of evening forums across South Asia during late August to late October in conjunction with several industry trade bodies representing the package printing industry. Held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the seven events are aimed exclusively at offset printers who are thinking about diversifying their businesses into label and package printing. This is testament to the rapid development we have seen in the printing industry in South Asia over the last two years. As the appetite for labels and package printing continues undiminished and innovations in technology develop apace, it has become the biggest growth market.
