FROM THE EDITORS’ DESK Dear Readers, The 15th Printpack India welcomes the industry to showcase and watch the latest technology in action. After suffering multiple postponements due to the fateful Corona pandemic that gripped the world for months on a stretch, the Printpack India has finally arrived and arrived with aplomb.

Business activities are in full swing, people are moving freely, there are no safety fears, and the enterprise to get on the growth flight is eager. IPAMA, having successfully organized 14 editions of Printpack India exhibitions previously, is all enthusiastic about the interest, bookings and the industry buzz regarding the exhibition which is just a few hours away.

Provin’s ethical and transparent working makes them different and constant customer-centric focus on providing innovative solutions to their customers makes them successful with the customer, according to Pradeep Nandagopal. Moreover, their strategic placement of support team across India provides almost instant support to the customers.

“While there are many changes happening in market due to Covid-19, our focus presently is on helping our customers to rebound from the aftereffects of the Covid-19,” says Pradeep Nandagopal.

The last two years had just a few installations for most of the industry. The same holds true for Provin.

“This year is going to be excellent in terms of key installations happening. The main attraction of this year will be the installation of two nos 8 colour Perfector presses in 36-inch segment with lot of automation which will be the first in Indian Printing

“Printpack was and is our prime focus in terms of exhibitions but this time, we are not participating in this Printpack,” reveals Pradeep Nandagopal.

These products need to be strengthened as these will offer considerable value addition to the customers and it is going to be very important in these times,” asserts Pradeep Nandagopal.

Last two years have changed the way the whole world works, so has the Printing Industry. “While Offset will continue to dominate, technologies like Digital presses will also grow,” observes Vinay Kaushal.

“Another important area of growth which is generally overlooked is to become more efficient in operations and value addition capabilities. We do have solutions and we will continue to work with our customers on these,” he adds.

“The whole world is reeling under the effects caused and being caused by Covid. Logistic and price increase in raw material is creating lot of difficulties. This will be continued for next 6 months to one year atleast. Positive thing is that we are learning to live with Covid and in fact moving on strongly.

Another positive is that the approach towards life and how everyone works has changed,” he sums up the post pandemic scene.

Growing at a stable rate of 8 to 10 percent, Provin had to suffer this growth during almost two years of Covid period. They were, however, able to maintain Pre-Covid turnover in the last two years and expect to achieve pre-Covid growth figures from this year.

Last year revenue turnover for Provin stood at 13 cr and they aim to get it around 25 cr in the next 5 years.

We all know that service & spares support is Provin’s USP. “We continue to build on these in coming years,” assures Vinay Kaushal.

Sales, Service, and customer support verticals and managed by respective team leaders with long experience in field.

“Quick turnround for the problems and constant monitoring of issues faced in field makes our service different from others.

Backed by innovative annual maintenance contracts for machine service, we have a very large number of machines under our AMC. For Spares supply, Provin offers some very innovative options which are beneficial to the customers,” Vinal Kaushal shares.

He concludes with this call to customers as well as colleagues: “We human beings are fighters and the worst is over. We all have learnt our lessons on micro-managing the businesses in last two years and now is the time to bounce back and grow in future.

Focus on technology and the benefits which can be realized with it should be considered instead of only capital cost (which is also very important though)!”

Heidelberg Suprasetter and Prinect strengthen Abarna’s productivity Abarna Colours strengthens productivity with a brand new Heidelberg Suprasetter CtP A106 and Prinect Proman workflow.

Abarna Colours has installed a brand-new Suprasetter A106 CtP along with the Prinect Production Manager pre-press workflow from Heidelberg. The recent installation was completed at their 30,000 sq/ft production facility in Tirupur, a well-known industrial hub for garment exports in South India.

A.P. Murugan, Managing Partner at Abarna Colours, said, “The Suprasetter CtP paired with the Prinect Production Manager (Pro Man) workflow augment our pre-press division; today we save ample time in prepress division with cost savings.”

The modular design of the Suprasetter A106 provides maximum flexibility for the medium-size print format. The patented laser system by Heidelberg for the Suprasetter provides an excellent imaging quality.

Production reliability is ensured through the Intelligent Diode System (IDS). It means that if a diode fails, the operation can continue.

The Suprasetter also offers a consistently high depth of focus to compensate for unevenness in the plates.

DPA Holds its AGM The Annual General Meeting of Delhi Printers’ Association takes place at Malviya Smriti Bhawan.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic Delhi Printers’ Association could not hold some of its events during the outgoing year. Welcoming the members to the AGM President Mr. Sunil Jain, who got another term as President for the year 2021-2022, thanked the members for their support. Earlier DPA also participated in the first formal meeting organised by Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructural Corporation wherein an opportunity to acquire land for a cluster of printing units was made available to DPA. He sought suggestions on the cluster land before the second meeting of HSIIDC during the AGM. The Hon. General Secretary Mr. Atul Goel presented his Annual Report for the outgoing year. The Treasurer Mr. Prakash Dass presented the Statement of Annual Accounts for the preceding 2020-2021 period.

Designer Printers buys Rajasthan’s first RICOH Pro 9200 Monotech Systems installs the state’s first cut-sheet production press at Jaipur-based print specialist.

Jaipur-based print specialist, Designer Printers & Publicity became the first company in Rajasthan to reinforce its infrastructure with the addition of RICOH Pro C9200, a Colour cut-sheet-production press. The press has been installed by Monotech Systems.

Established as a Sole Proprietorship firm in the year 2003 by Ajay Singh at Jaipur (Rajasthan, India), Designer Printers & Publicity is one of the biggest manufacturers and suppliers of high-quality signboards, signage board, highway hoarding, promotional trophy, and promotional memento. Sai Com Codes adds Seventh Nilpeter press to their fleet The press gets installed at the Guwahati plant making it the third Nilpeter of the plant.

We can call one of the largest label printing houses of the country Sai Com Code as a Nilpeter printing house with all their three plants based Sonipat, Guwahati and Vapi having the Nilpeter technology at the centre. The latest Nilpeter, a FB350 narrowweb flexo printing press has been installed at the production plant in Guwahati, Assam. The Guwahati plant currently employs around 100 people and up till now had been running two Nilpeter machines successfully.

The plants are: in Sonipat, Haryana with 4 Nilpeter presses; Guwahati, Assam with 3 Nilpeter presses and Vapi, Maharashtra which runs another brand press). The Sai Com Codes facilities produce high-quality pressure-sensitive labels for various industries, including pharmaceutical, cosmetics, oil, food, liquor, and perfume.

Sai Com Codes expanded its geographical presence to Guwahati around six years ago to serve the customers faster and better. The Guwahati plant contributes 35% of the company’s total business.

With this new installation, they expect this contribution to move up to 40%. It is Guwahati plant’s third Nilpeter making the total of seven from the brand for Sai Com Codes.

“We are expanding our production capacity to meet the increasing demand. The idea is to be able to print any label at any of our production facilities and be as close to our customers as possible. Being a multi-locational company, we are working on a centralized command model. We are also working towards expanding our geographical presence so this machine can also be used as our backup plan,” says Harish Gupta, when asked about their new Nilpeter.

It is interesting that Sai Com Codes has gone for this investment during the tough times of post-pandemic period. “Looking at the current scenario after two years of the pandemic, inflation and fluctuation in prices of raw materials are two major areas of pain for the industry and adding to it is the uncertainty in the market, nobody is willing to give projections – volumes are decreasing.

Even we are not running to our full capacity, running at 80% capacity,” sums up Harish Gupta.

He points towards paper prices which are changing almost every fortnight. “But we cannot demand different prices from our customers every fortnight,” he reasons. Long delivery times and extreme price increases in the label supply chain are causing huge problems. Lead time for paper-based label materials is 6 to 7 weeks. He hopes for things to improve in the coming year. “We have invested believing “when going gets tough, the tough needs to get going!” concludes Harish Gupta with a seemingly determined intent.

What makes screen printing features so attractive is their direct effect on human sensory perception.

Textured varnishes, tactile coatings and innovative finishing effects immediately appeal to consumers’ senses. This explains the general growth of screen printing, which also extends to new applications.

“The market is constantly on the lookout for graphic innovations and many of them can be implemented in a particularly impressive way using screen printing,” says Oliver Vetter, Head of Screen Printing Business at Gallus Ferd. Rüesch AG, describing the potential of screen printing.

For decades, Gallus Screeny has been helping users all over the world to create unusual design effects using rotary screen printing. This also applies to the requirement for wider screens for presses in the mid-web sector. Whereas screens were previously designed for presses up to 560 mm (22’’) wide, midweb presses require working widths of 660 mm (26’’).

Due to their width, they place higher demands on the mechanical stability of the screens. The demand for such screens led Gallus Screen Printing to develop a new screen material with the product name Mega Screen. “For printing widths of up to 660 mm, Mega Screen brings the necessary stability and process reliability to screen printing,” says Oliver Vetter, by way of introduction of the new product.

“This improves the ink flow with the thicker screens, as the ink is doctored across the diagonal of the screen openings,” Roland Greutmann explains the angled arrangement, adding: “Based on experience to date, we recommend adjusting the viscosity of the ink, which should be set slightly thinner for optimum print results.”

Process reliability What makes the processing of Screeny so safe is the manufacturing process of the screen material. It ensures a very even coating during production, which stands out from the quality of manually coated screens.

The cutting to format of the material is just as precise. The raw sheets are cut to tight tolerances on a modern laser cutting machine. The greater the repeat length of the screens, the more important it is that this production step is carried out precisely, to ensure the accuracy of the screen printing effects in the final print.

Another advantage of the Mega Screen process is the short make-ready time required. By eliminating the time and effort

required to prepare the emulsion and apply it to the printing cylinder several times, the number of work steps is reduced, which shortens the time required to produce the Mega Screen cylinder several times over, compared to hand-coated plates. To produce the printing cylinder, the customer only has to expose the printing plate, wash it with water and weld it into a round shape, which is then attached into the stencil rings.

Major potential users include multinational companies in the label and packaging sector that lead the industry with innovative concepts. They use the wider screens for special effects in printing flexible packaging.

Seiko water-based printhead: To adapt the change and address the market demands Water based version of Seiko’s RC1536 printhead captures the market, can be replaced one to one with its existing Oil-based versions.

Seiko´s Printek Division - the division responsible for the Industrial Inkjet printheads - is working very hard to bring to the market a truly dependable printhead for printing Water-based inks. Initially the architecture was said to be compatible but soon our engineers realized that Water – the elixir of life for Humans - is actually attacking some parts of the printhead and an update is necessary to make the printhead compatible for the new environmental friendly challenges.

Actually water has proved its corrosive behaviour time and again in different fields and in the case of the printhead too it could eat away through some of the critical parts of the printhead.

The problem was not only that. The engineers in Seiko realized that this corrosion is not happening during the Compatibility Testing but actually taking place during a Long Term Jetting Test which we do while testing the product. In such a test we are continuously moving the Piezo in the print head to simulate the life cycle of the printhead. These tests which actually had to be done after every iteration kept the engineers very busy to finally come up with the perfect parts which did not limit the functionality of the printhead and also remain stable for a time longer than

the stipulated lifetime of the printhead.

It can be seen that there are existing products in the market which can print Water-based inks. However it is important to note that Seiko is not only bringing a Waterbased printhead into the market, but actually bringing the Reliability and Robustness of its RC1536 series of printhead into the new generation market fitting perfectly to the Environmental Concerns of the New Age. Starting from the Ceramics Market, where more and more environmental norms are disrupting the production; Seiko’s RC1536 print head can be replaced one to one with its existing Oil-based versions. This makes it easy for the machine manufacturers to adapt the change and address the market demands at the earliest.

Apart from the Ceramic’s market where the product was successfully Beta Tested the product is now being tested in other fields such as Corrugated Cardboard, 3D printing and even Textile. Seiko can see that there is a strong requirement in the market for a product that can cater to the high reliability, high drop volume and wide range of operations.
