Heidelberg launches LED drying technology in Europe First installation in Switzerland – customers impressed by quality. More and more industrialized commercial print shops around the world are utilizing the benefits of UV technology. Arriving completely dry in the delivery, the sheet can be forwarded directly to postpress, while the range of suitable substrates stretches from paper to plastic and films. Very high levels of gloss can be achieved, thus supporting an extensive range of special effects. As a result, print shops can gain a competitive advantage by standing out from the crowd and handling short print runs and multiple job changes in the shortest possible time. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) supports print shops by supplying the best drying and radiation technology to suit their specific needs – from lamp technology for full UV and LE (low energy) UV to new diode technology with LEDs (light emitting diodes). Naturally, the products are complemented by fully comprehensive consulting services that ensure print shops are using the best system for their needs.
DryStar LED scores top marks in radiation and energy efficiency values, cutting energy consumption by an additional 50 percent compared to the DryStar LE UV and as much as 90 percent compared to the DryStar UV.
Many commercial print shops have already opted for the environmentally friendly DryStar LE UV dryer. Now, companies can invest in the next level of innovation – DryStar LED, the most advanced drying technology available to date. Developed by Heidelberg, the DryStar LED system has been designed specifically for sheetfed offset and scores top marks in radiation
and energy efficiency values, cutting energy consumption by an additional 50 percent compared to the DryStar LE UV and as much as 90 percent compared to the DryStar UV. Heidelberg offers a complete package for LED that comprises machine, consumables, and service. Thanks to full integration into the press, intuitive operation via the Prinect Press Center, remote services compatibility, and perfectly coordinated Saphira consumables, DryStar LED delivers excellent process reliability and outstanding productivity at up to 18,000 sheets per hour. This performance has been proven on more than 20 presses installed in Japan since 2013. Japan was the first LED market for Heidelberg due to the country’s very stringent legal regulations on energy savings. Now the company is using the expertise and positive feedback gained there to launch the technology onto the European market. The first systems in the USA will then be installed at the end of the year, while the rollout in the rest of the world is scheduled for the start of next year. Saphira consumables will be continuously developed in parallel and a larger range created.
First installation in Switzerland – customers impressed by quality The world’s first Speedmaster XL 75 with DryStar LED went into operation at the end of 2014 at Abächerli

highlight and unique selling point is the automatic format setting (AFS), which automatically sets the LED modules to the required sheet size in circumferential and lateral direction during a job change. As a result, the DryStar LED from Heidelberg is the only system on the market to achieve energy savings of up to 60 percent, even during production. Together with the standby function, this brings additional potential energy savings and extends the life of the system. DryStar LED is fully integrated into the press operation via the Prinect Press Center, which means that automation processes for job changes, production runs, and servicing run automatically or are easy to operate. When combined with Saphira LED consumables, the result is a top-performing fully integrated process. (Picture of customer event – print results) Thanks to LED technology, Abächerli can offer its customers many more options regarding the choice of substrate and more freedom for coatings and special effects.
Media AG in Sarnen, Switzerland. During an open house event in September, the company proudly presented its eight-color press with coating unit to existing and prospective customers. Crucial success factors include the system technology, perfectly coordinated consumables from the Saphira LED range, compatible dampening and washup solutions, and blankets. Abächerli has already used LED consumables to produce more than 20 million sheets that have impressed customers with their outstanding quality. “We can now offer our customers even more brilliant printing results, along with a wide selection of substrates as well as opaque white and metallic applications,” explains Christian Zemp, owner and managing director of Abächerli Media. “We can print on papers with metallized surfaces and process opaque and transparent plastics. All in all, we have more freedom when it comes to finishing, particularly where uncoated papers are involved, as we no longer need additional coating, but can retain the same character and feel.” Production generates zero emissions, does not produce ozone or infrared radiation, is odorless, and does not use powder, all of which supports environmentally friendly production. “Given the rich depth of color, increased tonal value range, improved definition, and contrast, I like to compare the difference between LED-and conventionally printed products with the difference between high and standard definition TV pictures,” says Zemp.

Future-focused LED technology for innovative print shops The engineers from Heidelberg have designed the DryStar LED to deliver maximum productivity and performance. High-performance LEDs with a service life of over 25,000 hours are used for highly reactive LED consumables. The special lens technology maximizes the radiation window and supports a safe distance between the LEDs and the sheet. The instant on-off system acts as a standby function to ensure electricity is used only while drying is required and that no power is consumed during downtimes and make-ready. Another
Standardized commercial and web-to-print print shops that want to deliver a large number of short runs in as short a space of time as possible will particularly benefit from the Heidelberg DryStar LED system. The technology is especially suitable for four- and five-color applications in straight or perfecting printing and with or without coatings. DryStar LED is available for the Speedmaster XL 75, SX 102, CD/CX 102, and XL 106 models and has been certified by the German Institution for Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention (Berufsgenossenschaft). DryStar LED can also be retrofitted on presses of the above mentioned series that have been manufactured since 2008.

InterTech Technology Award for Prinect Media Manager Heidelberg’s multi-channel publishing solution receives judges’ admiration for integrated, modular, and process-efficient design. successful transition from one business model to another,” said Dr. Mark Bohan, Vice President Technology and Research at Printing Industries of America. More specifically, “Our panel admired the proactive manner in which resources and content were managed, with updates being pushed out without any further user action,” he added.
Printing Industries of America honoured the multi-channel publishing solution of Heidelberg with one of this year’s internationally renowned InterTech Technology Awards. In doing so, the association is recognizing a product that goes far beyond the confines of traditional printing. The Prinect Media Manager enables media service providers to move into the growth segment of multi-channel publishing. They can expand their business model profitably and unlock new customer segments by processing order content centrally in a media-neutral format and publishing it via all available online and offline channels. The judges were particularly impressed by the system’s ability to be integrated in an end-to-end workflow, its modular design geared to specific users, and the resulting process-efficiency. “As the printing industry continues to evolve, technologies like these are critical to the
Prinect Media Manager – one system with a whole host of benefits The Prinect Media Manager is a media publishing system that can be used to publish the same information in various media channels. Media-neutral image, text, and video data is stored in a database and output for print and online media (websites, tablet shops, etc.) in an automated process. Any changes need to be made only once in the system. This ensures multi-channel publishing is efficient and cost-effective. Users can integrate the system into the existing Prinect print and media workflow. Employees of the media company and those of its customer can access the same file with different functions. This enables parallel order processing, speeds up project progress significantly, and ensures a high level of transparency for everyone involved. What’s more, the solution benefits from a modular structure and can be adapted to
the user’s specific needs. Optional modules include a marketing calendar for planning campaigns, a cockpit providing central access to all modules and offering external users access to the database via the Internet, and the flow function for straightforward visualization of all project phases. “Heidelberg helps customers unlock business potential – also outside the traditional printing sector – with creative products. Multi-channel publishing applications enable print shops to open up new customer segments, generate additional orders, obtain better margins, and also improve customer loyalty,” said Jason Oliver, Senior Vice President business area Digital and Prinect at Heidelberg.
InterTech Technology Award – renowned award for innovations in the print media industry Printing Industries of America first presented the InterTech Technology Award in 1978. Each year, the association recognizes print media innovations in a variety of categories. Heidelberg has received over 30 of all the awards presented over the years for various prepress, press, and postpress technologies. That puts it well ahead of its market competitors and underlines its long-standing innovation leadership in printing along the entire value-added chain.

Heidelberg Prinect 2016 version to make life easier for media service providers New functions make Prinect print and media workflow easier to use, faster, and more profitable The new functions Heidelberg is adding to the 2016 version of its Prinect print and media workflow will make life easier for media service providers in the commercial and packaging printing sectors, speed up their processes, and make these more profitable. Numerous areas of the workflow system have been significantly expanded in close consultation with Prinect customers. Improvements focus on the Prinect cockpit’s interface for more intuitive operation, enhanced process integration between management information system (MIS) and production workflow, and the possibility of complete colour reports to provide end users with documented proof of quality – now also augmented by long-term reports. In addition to the well-established JDF interface, the system now also features an API (application programming interface) that enables data to be shared with systems of third-party suppliers for the first time. What’s more, Prinect is now more capable of handling even the largest data volumes – such as versioned documents with several thousand pages – extremely quickly.
The new Prinect Cockpit – intuitive operation rather like a smartphone “With the new Prinect functions, Heidelberg is aiming to make life easier for media service providers. In concrete terms, this means we want our customers to earn more money and to do so faster.” - Christopher Berti, Heidelberg.
Key Notes : > Intuitive operation for fast production runs. > Enhanced integration of MIS and production workflow. > Improved colour reports for complete documentation of quality.

Heidelberg has made the Prinect cockpit’s user interface much simpler and much more intuitive. The open job can now be displayed beside the job list and the job memo. Users can cast a quick and efficient glance at the job content, identify the correct job, and start processing it. The job history is now displayed with all the benefits of a grouping table, which makes it far clearer and far easier to read. In the cockpit, it is also possible to display the individual jobs in the job pool and assign them from there to the current mixed form. Individual jobs can be sorted, filtered, and also deleted in the mixed folder. When working with an individual job, the layout of the mixed job it is part of is now also displayed.
between the individual jobs. As a result, print shops benefit from reliable planning from the time they enter the relevant jobs in the system and can calculate the costs incurred more accurately. This in turn delivers more cost-efficient production processes and higher margins.
Improving customer loyalty with documented quality It’s nothing new for media service providers to be under significant cost pressure, but print buyers also prefer suppliers who can provide convincing proof of their capabilities. Means of standing out from the crowd and improving customer loyalty are therefore becoming increasingly important. Prinect Analyze Point now offers the possibility, throughout the production run, of fully documenting the colour quality of print jobs for all Heidelberg measuring equipment using colour reports that are prepared and evaluated automatically. This enables media service providers to prove to customers that they are complying with the colour guidelines for every print job. Further detailed in-house colour reports are possible, including new long-term reports, which enables media service providers to further improve production processes. Both print shops and print buyers thus benefit from greater reliability, including repeat jobs.
Welcome freedom – Prinect offers APIbased interface to other systems
Mixed forms can already be displayed in the Prinect Business Manager
Prinect can now also be connected via an API interface to media companies’ existing third-party systems. These are typically in-house analysis systems or other ERP systems of third-party suppliers. Consequently, media service providers can now incorporate data from Prinect for their production monitoring via the Prinect API interface into their own systems where they can then include their own diagrams and KPIs. It is also possible to transfer data relating to the specific job status into an in-house system so as to document specific steps or the job status for the company’s customers.
A growing number of media service providers are using mixed forms to save time and money by processing several print jobs together. In the new version, the Prinect Business Manager now enables actual costing of such mixed forms in addition to control and monitoring functions. The Prinect Business Manager does the necessary material planning and analyzes the allocation of costs
“With the new Prinect functions, Heidelberg is aiming to make life easier for media service providers. In concrete terms, this means we want our customers to earn more money and to do so faster. Some 200 software engineers at Heidelberg are working on achieving this day in, day out. That also makes Heidelberg one of our sector’s main IT players,”

Goss marks 20 years leading press automation technology Goss’ Autoplate technology has remained the flag-bearer for web press automation. Twenty years after Goss Autoplate technology was brought to market, Goss International is honouring a key milestone in the history of offset printing. Introducing reductions in makeready time, labour and expense, the Autoplate innovation has extended the web offset advantage and created opportunities across a wide range of sectors and applications. Goss Autoplate automatic plate-changing was first introduced on the M-600 press in 1995, offering the ability to plate up an entire press in less than three minutes due to a simple, precision-engineered sequence. Plates were placed into cassettes on the printing units while the press was running or idle; then, at the push of a button old plates were automatically rotated off the cylinders and replaced by the new ones. All or any combination of plates could be changed in this way.
“With the realization that the shorter the run, the greater the benefit, came a freedom to explore run lengths beyond those traditionally associated with web offset and even to compete with sheetfed.”
Key Notes : > Twentieth anniversary of Autoplate automatic platechanging. > More than 2100 Autoplate units now running worldwide. > Enabling technology for competing with sheetfed and gravure.
22
September 2015
According to Goss product manager, Jean-Pierre, Moioli, despite initial skepticism, live demonstrations at trade shows and open houses, together with field experience, rapidly established Autoplate technology as the flag-bearer for web press automation. “The beauty of the system was – and is – the simplicity of its operation made possible through precision engineering, without requiring extra cleaning or
maintenance,” explains Moioli. “With the realization that the shorter the run, the greater the benefit, came a freedom to explore run lengths beyond those traditionally associated with web offset and even to compete with sheetfed.” Today, more than 2100 Goss Autoplate units are in operation on a range of commercial and newspaper presses worldwide, including M-600, Sunday 2000, 4000 and 5000, and Colorliner CPS press systems. In addition, its development has directly influenced a range of additional Goss innovations in industrialized print production. These include: • The ‘96-page’ web offset press, creating new economies for very high-volume commercial printing and directly challenging the lowervolume gravure industry; • Non-stop edition change (NSEC) which ensures further time, energy and waste savings in makeready particularly for high-volume versioning; • Automatic Transfer (AT) printing for on-therun edition changes, eliminating conventional makeready requirements in some applications. “Our M-600 experience made the wider press format possible with the same design, creating more

opportunities for printers - and the larger the plate, the greater the benefits,” comments Moioli. “One of the main goals achieved is reliability, proven by field experience with close to 100 percent plate change success. In the case of Automatic Transfer we have customers running 48-page format press lines that are changing more than 700 plates a day!” Most recently, as the single, most significant enabling technology of the Magnum Compact press, Goss Autoplate knowhow has led to a new era for newspaper printers and publishers. In reducing makeready time by as much as
90 percent, the Magnum Compact press lowers the break-even point of economical newspaper production. Combined with additional features such as consistent high quality, wide substrate flexibility, heatset options, and a versioning tool, this development provides the means to reach into new markets particularly for those that currently produce small- to mediumcirculation publications. “Through our decades of experience with Autoplate technology, we were able to develop a simple, cost-effective system entirely unique to this sector. In providing the ability to change plates in 30 seconds and to complete a full job changeover in less
than five minutes, printers can fill the press with work even in the shortest production window,” comments Eric Bell, director of Goss marketing. “The breakthrough with the Magnum Compact press is a perfect example of the legacy of Autoplate technology in general,” concludes Bell. “I can’t honestly claim that our product designers, back in 1995, could foresee the level of competition that we know today but, bit by bit, as margins have become tighter and harder-won right across the board, the crucial advantages of Autoplate have been unlocking new potential.”
Centro Stampa Quotidiani places order number three with Q.I. Press Controls at the service of CSQ and this goes towards engendering an even greater confidence in the systems.
Centro Stampa Quotidiani, based in Erbusco, Italy, has once again opted to buy a Q.I. Press Controls system. Previously, the organisation placed orders for IRS and IDS on two of its printing lines. This time, IDS-3D is being installed on its presses. The results obtained with previous systems and the company’s positive experience working with Q.I. Press Controls were decisive in clinching the third order. The collaboration with Centro Stampa Quotidiani (CSQ) dates back to 2005 when the organisation purchased Q.I. Press Controls’ IRS for colour register. Thanks to IRS, CSQ was able to cut back on material use and the system resulted in consistently high levels of quality. Over the years, the relationship between the two companies has intensified and a sense of mutual trust and loyalty is said to exist. Q.I. Press Controls is

CSQ’s managing director, Dario de Cian, relates that in 2013, the company was looking for ways to reduce costs. “Our aim was to offer customers a consistency in quality without burdening them with unnecessary additional costs. This meant finding other ways to reduce production costs,” explains Dario de Cian. As far as Dario de Cian was concerned, Q.I. Press Controls’ offer stood head and shoulders above the rest of the competition. Q.I. Press Controls was the only supplier able to offer a system capable of regulating the use of ink and water. For CSQ, this provided the key to cost savings. Thanks to IDS, CSQ was able to cut back on the number of operators on the second press line by as much as 50%, at the same time as offering its customers consistent levels of high quality print. A few weeks ago, the company once again plumped for Q.I. Press Controls. The organisation was looking for an additional system able to operate alongside IRS. Ultimately, they opted for the new IDS-3D. Dario de Cian: “We’re extremely satisfied with the systems and the service of Q.I. Press Controls. We expect to achieve exactly the same results with order number three.” The order consists of 8 IDS-3D cameras for colour register, including RAS. The IDS-3D system is fitted with
dampening control and Automatic Ink Mist Shields (AIMS). The system is being installed on a WIFAG OF370GTD with four 4/4 towers and one folder. According to Dario de Cian, future expectations remain high. “Over the last ten years we have enjoyed a successful collaboration,” he explains. “After just a few days’ training our team was more than competent in using the systems and in the event of any hitches, Q.I. Press Controls provided us with excellent feedback.” In the future, CSQ will be looking at other ways of reducing costs and will be keeping a close track of developments. Concluding, Dario de Cian had this to say: “It’s clear that Q.I. Press Controls continues to carry out research into ways of achieving targets and reducing costs. We’ll be keeping a close eye on things!”

Printing press modernisation with new spray dampening units
AIP acquires Goss from Shanghai Electric
American Industrial Partners (AIP), a middle-market private equity firm focused on acquiring and improving North Americanheadquartered industrial businesses, has completed the acquisition of Goss International and its subsidiaries from Shanghai Electric Corporation. The transaction closed on September 18, 2015.
At this year’s World Publishing Expo 2015 in Hamburg, technotrans AG focuses on the modernisation of offset printing presses. The company from Sassenberg in Westphalia (Germany) will present its peripheral equipment for increasing the efficiency of established printing presses at stand 4.700, from the 5th to the 7th October. This year’s focus is on the installation of new printing units or the replacement of already existing printing units in order to improve the competitiveness of the printing companies. Once again, technotrans will not present any technical exhibits on site at the World Publishing Expo. Instead, the expert in peripheral equipment favours a dialogue with interested visitors with a technical background. “Securing competitiveness through modernisation in the field of offset printing can be quite a challenge,” says head of sales Peter Böcker, and this is exactly where he wants to help his customers. This is why the individual situations at the various printing companies will be discussed face to face with the customers during the exhibition. “The reason for this is that every system is specifically adapted to the requirements of the customer and, thereby, always a unique solution,” explains Peter Böcker. He sees a strong potential for higher levels of efficiency in cases where there are no spray dampening units at all or where outdated models are used.
Using deltaspray.line for costcutting The deltaspray.line product range helps users to save costs. The spray dampening systems feature a unique nozzle cleaning concept, do not require any active compressed air, and increase the productivity of proven printing presses significantly. Due to their individually controlled nozzles, the modular and symmetrical spray dampening units ensure a highly precise dampening solution dosing process. In addition, the exact dampening solution application improves the quality of the printed product to a considerable extent. The nozzles are equipped with an anti-twist protection that ensures the specified positional angles are maintained. They also feature a bayonet lock enabling their quick and tool-free exchange in just a few steps. As a result, maintenance tasks can be completed easily in just a few minutes. For newspaper printing, technotrans AG offers a full line of peripheral equipment, from dampening solution circulators to central ink supply systems. In digital printing, the focus in Hamburg is again on cooling and temperature control. technotrans is also actively seeking to discuss this with users and manufacturers. The company will be represented at the World Publishing Expo 5-7 October at stand 4.700 together with IST METZ.
“American Industrial Partners is a like-minded, forward-thinking organization and we are excited to leverage their industry, operational, and financial expertise to support our culture of innovation and customer collaboration,” said Rick Nichols, CEO of Goss. “In partnership with AIP, we look forward to building on our market leading position and executing a strategic growth plan focused on providing our highly-valued customer base with the highest-quality portfolio of innovative products and aftermarket parts, services and enhancements.” “Goss is differentiated by its printing process knowledge, engineering expertise, high-tech industrial manufacturing capabilities and ability to execute and support large-scale capital equipment projects,” said Rick Hoffman of AIP. “Working alongside an exceptional management team at Goss, we look forward to executing identified growth initiatives and driving operational efficiencies at the Company to further differentiate Goss from its competitors,” added Sparsh Bhargava of AIP. To date, AIP has completed over 50 transactions and is currently managing more than $1.1 billion in equity capital. AIP invests in all forms of corporate divestitures, management buyouts, recapitalizations, and going-private transactions of established businesses with revenues of $100 million $1 billion.

Digital manroland offers service as product At the recent WAN-IFRA India, manroland offered its Digital capabilities as well as complete service solutions. manroland has made significant progress in its Digital solutions. Globally launched about four years back, in India was trying to gauge the response from prospective users. “The response was good and so today we are in a good position to offer a complete integrated solution for Digital Printing,” says Mr.Pankaj Bhasin, MD, manroland India. manroland doesn’t make printing heads, which it sources from others. But the integration of the print system and finishing system is effectively done by its software solutions. Any printer can be integrated to manroland post press solution. “Such integration of the two systems can be done only by us. We can offer complete integrated project management solutions. We are now market ready with such solutions,” says Pankaj. The second offering by manroland at WAN-IFRA was that it now offers ‘service’ as a product. “With our highly qualified technicians we are now ready to offer complete service solution which means we can offer any service – be it a new press installation, old press relocation, refurbishing, overhauling, up gradation etc of any make. We have started with Manugraph which was earlier made under our license. This will be backed with expertise of manroland brand name. This is another addition to our product portfolio of manroland India available globally,” explains Pankaj. manroland is already offering such services in Australia, Africa, UK, USA, South Africa and a few other countries. “manroland India is now a global hub centre for providing quality service for any printing solutions. We have received a new order for a new 4 x 1 press from Namaste Telengana,” informs Pankaj. “Digital is not a threat but now a part of our portfolio since we are now integrating digital press with our finishing solutions,” he continues. “We are now a part of the digital revolution. Digital and Web both will have their own markets. We have already developed a software to integrate a digital head to a Web press so that it can print a limited area in a newspaper broadsheet on a variable data basis. For example you can
28

print different Sodoko puzzles in each of the newspaper.” manroland is now much more focused with its business being split into sheet fed and web. “The customers for these two segments are completely different and needed to be addressed differently and so this split helped us a lot. Moreover, we recently acquired a company in UK for web labelling solutions. manroland India is now responsible for this business also. This more than compensated for the loss of the sheet fed business,” explains Pankaj. Manroland is hiring more technical people to handle its new initiatives. It is now servicing non manroland machines
also. “We are the only company fully equipped to service machines of any make,” claims Pankaj. This one stop solution backed by manroland’s commitment has been able to significantly increase its customer base. “The level of engagement with our customers has gone up since our split last year. Discussions are happening regularly and investments have now started. Namaste Telengana is the first example. We are discussing 250 more such projects and fructify in the next couple of years. We are optimistic about the industry,” concludes Pankaj.

Technicon India launches the first ‘made in India’ Inserter Focuses on Post Press automation end-to-end solutions – from Press Folder to deliver inside the delivery van – for newspaper production.
Technicon India launched Techinsert 360 during the recent WAN-IFRA in Mumbai. The Inserter is the first in India. It helps in inserting supplements and fliers into the main newspapers. “Till now this inserting process was done manually in India, except for a few large newspaper publishers (may be less than 0.5%) who were using imported equipments for this function,” informs Mr.Rajiv Gandotra, Director, Technicon India. “We saw this void and took it as an opportunity and developed this product. It’s fully designed, developed and ‘Made in India’,” he continues. Technicon manufactures a wide range of mail room equipment and this inserter is the latest addition to the list. “Almost every newspaper has supplements to address targeted readers and also to increase advertisement revenues. I see this market has tremendous growth potential. As the number of supplements increase, it increases the need for more operations and manpower. The Inserter is an efficient addition for such operations,” Rajiv explains. The ‘made in India’ machine received excellent visitor response at the expo. “We received a positive response from foreign visitors as well. They were quite impressed with the quality of our machine and the value proposition. We see a good market in the western countries. It is going to be a highly competitive product there. Starting from the quality of the smallest component to the aesthetic aspects, everything has been properly taken care of in the Inserter. Service back up will be along with local partners. Apart from the quality of this machine, we are certainly going to have the price advantage over similarly competitive products,” continues Rajiv.
He doesn’t see any immediate Digital threat to newspaper industry. “Unlike in the developed world where the newspaper print runs are less than a lakh copies, in India even the smallest newspaper printing centre print more than a lakh copies. Such high volumes are difficult for digital technology to handle competitively,” he says. “Though advertisement revenue is getting shared by many media platforms like TV, Radio, Internet, Mobile etc., the newspaper publishers are working out new ways and means to generate revenue. Notwithstanding, the impact of certain double page gatefold printed advertisements cannot be made by say some digital media. Moreover, India has a huge rural market. It will take many years for digital media to address this huge market, while the newspapers have extensive reach into these markets,” he adds. Rajiv sees a lot of opportunities in automation in the newspaper production. “When there is competition in any industry, the manufacturer focuses on optimizing his existing infrastructure, plant and machinery etc. so that he is able to reduce the cost of operation, overheads etc to stay afloat. Automation is the answer for facing such a
situation,” he states. Automation is required in almost every scenario. In the Indian newspaper market, they are trying to innovate because they are finding it quiet tough to get advertisement revenue at the required level. India is still a growing country and there is still a lot of scope for growth, according to Rajiv. Apart from the Inserter that was displayed at the expo, Technicon focused on its end-toend solutions: “From the Press Folder to the loading inside the truck, we make all machines,” concludes Rajiv. Technicon offers the following solutions: • Inserter • Overhead Conveyor System • Newspaper Programmable Compensating Counter Stacker HAWK XL 502 • Batch Counter Stacker • Horizontal Log Stacker • Vertical Log Stacker • Online Sheet Underlayer • Plastic Bundle Wrapping Machine • Online Strapping Machine • Truck Loaders • Bundle Automation System
Newstech launches two machines at Wan-Ifra Newstech has added two new mailroom machines to its portfolio with the introduction of NTPJ 100 and NTCS 205 for Indian newspaper producers. NTPJ 100 is a supplement / insert jogger and NTCS-205 is an economical fully automatic strapping machine. The key features of NTCS-205 strapping machine include: • Up and down stream interlock with

The facility houses two bonded warehouse and one central warehouse. Khopoli is just on the outskirts of Navi Mumbai and well connected by the MumbaiPune express way. The large parcel of land (spread in a plot spanning 6.5 acres) answers need for huge parking space for containers, office space etc. “We have our staff quarters also in the same place, which makes them available for work 24x7,” says Mr.Sunil Poddar, MD, Poddar Global. The Khopoli facility was opened in April last year. “Apart from our own imported newsprint, we also store third party imports of newsprint here,” informs Dubey. Imports are also done against orders from customers. The customers get benefited because the facility is outside Octroi limits of Mumbai and the savings translate into costeffective product offerings to customers. Participating for the second time at WANIFRA show, Poddar Global arrived with a bang this time. “All these years we were creating our infrastructure by building our warehouses in different regions of the country. Now that they are in place, we want to showcase to the newspaper industry in a big way,” says Sunil. “Newspapers are now getting into diverse

media platforms like digital, radio, television etc and as such are keen on outsourcing their supply chain, especially for newsprint rather than doing it themselves,” continues Sunil. This is where Poddar Global offer its resources and expertise. With newsprint consumption going down in overseas market due to the down turn of the newspaper industry in these markets, the surplus supply of newsprint is finding its way to markets with demand. “Since Indian newspaper industry is growing, this was a good opportunity for us to import from these countries and distribute to the Indian newspaper publishing customers,” says Sunil.
newsprint is manufactured by leading global manufacturers in their state-of-the-art plants with latest technology. The quality standards are high – higher than many local manufacturers considering the manufacturing technology and infrastructure employed. Apart from infrastructure, many overseas manufacturers get their raw material from their own plantations. “These plants are located close to their raw materials and the size of these plants are huge. In terms of cost both local and imported are more or less same, since the domestic producers also follow international pricing norms,” adds Sunil.
He doesn’t face any competition from the local newsprint manufacturers since they have their own distribution and logistics arrangements. Their products go directly from the paper mills to the end users. “We distribute only imported newsprint. Ours requires long planning – form the time the requirement is identified to arranging the import, receiving, channelizing through transportation, storage, delivery etc. this needs a lot of planning from finance to storage to delivery etc.,” explains Sunil.
For those publishers as well who arrange their newsprint imports themselves, Poddar Global can be a partner for cost-effective and hassle-free supplies. “Since the local purchaser will also have to invest in all the necessary logistic facilities, they can benefit by taking advantage of our vast and efficiently synergized activity for all of their imports,” emphasizes Sunil.
Poddar Global is a quality newsprint provider for the customers in India. Most of imported

to the CFS (Customs Freight Station) for examination of the containers. This reduces the cost (about 3 %) and also time for custom clearance. Very few companies in the country have this accreditation. Only five or six importers have this facility in India. “This cost and time advantage is thus available to smaller newspapers also, through us,” says Sunil. “This is why we distribute about 10% of the total newsprint consumption in India. As far as our supply chain is concerned we have a major market share. In trading of newsprint we almost have 90% share – about 200 tonnes,” he reveals.
The growth of digital media and its threat The threat from Digital Media is not immediately, according to Sunil. He sees it after 5-7 years when newspaper reading might go down. “The introduction of high speed 4G internet will have an impact on the newspaper industry. But fortunately we are growing at 40% year on year, though our pie may be smaller. It is because of the digital setting in more and more newspapers started outsourcing their newsprint imports, which benefited us. As of now we are focusing on newsprint imports only and do not have any other plans,” he says.
Newspapers to grow India’s is a more liberal democracy and the growth of newspaper industry is smooth with government support. Even the growth of electronic media is supporting the newspaper growth, according to Sunil. “The consumption of newsprint is growing due to lifestyle changes. The spread of television even in remote rural areas is good for the newspaper industry. TV news is a breaking news for these audience, while reading it completely in detail the next day in printed newspapers is more satisfying for them. That is why regional newspapers are growing. This trend will continue for another five years. We are very optimistic of the growth of printed newspapers,” he concludes.
Malhotra Graphics enhances newspaper portfolio with Techkon and refurbished CtP Offered Techkon Densitometer and refurbished CtPs at WAN-IFRA. Over 100 refurbished CtPs have already been successfully installed by the company. Malhotra Graphics offered Techkon Densitometer for the newspaper segment. The solution meets today’s high quality demand of the newspapers. Malhotra Graphics also offered refurbished CtPs at the WAN-IFRA expo. “For smaller newspaper publishing centers, refurbished CtPs makes good investment sense, since they can keep their investment low,” says Navdeep Dadwal, VP - Sales Digital Presses & Graphics Art Systems, Malhotra Graphics. These machines are factory reconditioned at the manufacturing unit and come with warranty. Malhotra Graphics has installed over 100 refurbished CtPs across the country. “The refurbishing process takes 21 days and undergoes various checks and balances. A refurbished machine doesn’t look any different from a new one. The Cost difference though is almost 50% when compared to a new machine. That’s a huge savings for the end user. Thermal CtPs are little expensive over violet reconditioned machine. Production efficiency is also good – around 40 to 45 plates an hour,” explains Navdeep. According to him, Offset is the dominant technology and will remain so for quite some time. “There’s no immediate threat from the Digital technology which is expensive and hence will take a long time
to catch up with Offset technology. Cost per printed sheet is also expensive. It will be minimum three to four years before Digital Inkjet technology really catches on. May be in Drupa next year we may see some new technologies unfurling,” he believes. However, Malhotra Graphics is future ready for any Digital challenge. It has tied up with Ricoh for their Digital printers. Ricoh has very wide range of models from affordable entry level models to highly sophisticated and advanced production models. Offset printer are adding on Digital presses to their existing Offset portfolio, especially in the commercial segment where the run lengths are going down and Digital is capitalizing on this situation. “Though there is no immediate threat, Digital is definitely the future,” acknowledges Navdeep. He perceives that the Commercial printing segment is slowing down with growth more evident in the Packaging as well as the newspaper segments. “Our focus is now on these two (packaging and newspaper) segments. We sold about four flexo CtPs from Xiekon last year. We have some software installations from Packz for packaging software. It is a PDF editor, wherein you can make whatever changes you want to do in the PDF file. It’s an open platform. We already have three installations
and by the end of this year we will have eight more,” informs Navdeep. Malhotra Graphics wasn’t focused much on the newspaper industry earlier but was working with a few niche newspapers for its consumables. But now with Techkon and refurbished CtPs in its portfolio it is focusing more on the newspaper segment. “We have installations in NMS Printers (which is printing Times of India), NaiDuniya and a few others. We will also be adding a few more products to our portfolio to cater to the newspaper segment,” concludes Navdeep.

It can print six pages per tower. It saves lot of time and manpower cost. Lot of interest for this press has been shown by customers across the industry. “One such press is being installed in Sri Lanka. It has very less make ready time and these features have evinced keen interest from Indian printers,” says Mr.Kulkarni. He says that the Indian newspaper industry

is in a sluggish state – neither growing nor going down. “May be by end of next year there will be some positive growth,” he adds. “The Goss Magnum Compact is an ideal
machine to invest in under these market conditions because of its faster turnaround time, ability to print more editions and very less price difference from a locally made press,” he recommends.

Manugraph Ecoline to have 700mm web size for Indian market Manugraph focused on the “Ecoline” presses for smaller newspaper publishers at the WAN-IFRA India 2015. “We launched this machine in the last Print Pack show,” says Mr.I.K.Dogra, GM – Sales, Multigraph (Manugraph). “We have showcased machines to all newspaper publishers who have shown interest in low speed machine of 25000 cph which can cater to their smaller centers. The highlights of this machine are its low height which is only 2.6 mtrs and thus can fit in any small room with low ceiling height and can be easily operated by one operator. It does not have any gallery which means it can be operated from one floor itself. There is no such machine being offered by any other manufacturer in the world.” Manugraph offered this unique product for its customers for their ‘C’ city center operations. Presently the size of the web width for this machine will be 546 mm. In the Indian market, where there is demand

for larger size newspapers, Manugraph is designing the web size to offer 700 mm. “We have already manufactured our first machine of 700 mm web size, though other size cut offs machines can also be offered. We are in active discussion to install our first Ecoline press,” reveals Dogra. He is positive of growth coming from smaller cities, which will be addressed by their new Ecoline press.
“Though Digital media is coming closer to Offset over the years, the craze for a physical hard copy of newspaper will always remain, at least for another few years. Our Ecoline with 25000 cph will ideally fit this demand for many years to come,” emphasises Dogra. Plans to get into other segments are also under pipeline. “Once they are finalized, we will make it public. Our export markets are also doing well. Overall we are very optimistic of the future,” he concludes.

Canon: The growth enabler for Wide-format customers Puneet Datta, Canon discusses with PRESSIdeas the trends and growth opportunities in the Wide-format business. In a recent talk with PRESSIdeas, Puneet Datta, Canon presented an overview of growth areas and trends in this promising segment with respect to the Indian market. Canon caters to the Wide-format industry chiefly in two areas broadly classified into – Wide-format which is Toner- and LED-based and chiefly used in the AECM (Architects, Engineers, Consultants and Manufacturers) segment; and the Inkjet Aqueous-based Wide-format solutions. “In India Wide-format is growing but it’s not in line with the opportunities present here,” says Puneet. One industry that is growing at a rapid pace in the country is infrastructure development. The industry opens new avenues for Wide-format Printing. It starts right from drawings for infrastructure projects. The Wide-format printing produces products like Drawing and Plans for use on drawing boards to onsite guide & reference to right up to finalization of the entire architecture.
The signage has changed its role from being a source of information to a means for grabbing attention. Consequently, both – quality and the message – have been made crucial parameters in today’s retail signages by this new role.
Key Notes : > Wide-format Printing opportunity is growing worldwide. > Vast wide-format opportunities in art reproduction and retail signage. > Creativity is key to signage growth.
38
September 2015
Art-reproduction and Retail signage Another popular use of Wide-format capabilities is the reproduction of art. Earlier artists didn’t have very viable solutions to answer the demand for reproduction of their creations. Likewise, even customers couldn’t afford to have art of their favorite artists in their drawing rooms. However, artists today are able to display their art at various exhibitions and galleries by digitally reproducing multiple copies of the same. With latest digital capabilities of Wideformat, the demand supply gap in this segment is being effectively filled today. Retail is probably one of the fastest growing areas in India. Today, signage in organized retail is not about owning shelf-space; it is rather about catching eyes. “On my recent visit to Chandigarh, I saw a Harley Davidson showroom present in one key shopping mall there. I could understand it not only meant to have an efficient exposure but also to gain customers attention. And, the importance of signages in grabbing customers’ attention can’t be exaggerated,” says Puneet. The signage has changed its role from being a source of information to a means for
grabbing attention. Consequently, both – quality and the message – have been made crucial parameters in today’s retail signages by this new role.
Creativity plays vital role in Wide-format Printing’s growth Apart from the above changing trends in the field of Wide-format Printing, Puneet says, it is the individual creativity that is playing a vital role in the growth of this segment. “Use of various rigid substrates is one of the creative areas in Wide-format Printing. When we speak of creativity, I have seen people applying Wide-format technology on printing Venetian Blinds, plywood and many other materials,” says Puneet. “This type of printing not only brings possibilities of having personalized printed spaces for customers but also inventory optimization with On-demand Printing for businesses,” he adds. We have already seen the big boon brought in by Personalized Wallpapers and Tiles in recent times in the Indian market. Wide-format through latest Digital Printing capabilities is offering customers the right value proposition today. “I feel Wide-format is on the verge of growth explosion which we are going to experience in about next five years,” states Puneet. Canon, according to Puneet, does not want to be someone waiting and watching this growth to happen. “We want to be very much part of this growth and enable this growth for our customers,” declares Puneet. Canon’s market share in Wide-format Aqueousbased printing stood at 9 percent in the year 2013 as per the IDC report. Last year the company took a big leap to boost the share to 15 percent. “We expect to keep the growth figures intact this year as well,” affirms Puneet. Despite the opportunities, Wide-format industry is dominated by a couple of thousand units and “That’s where Canon has to play a bigger role in the market,” feels Puneet. He wants to play the role of educating the market, service providers as well as the government on the opportunities Wide-
pressideas/ digital
format promises in various domains. “To say that India has just a market size of just over around four thousand printers on the Aqueous side and growth has been plus/ minus 4-5 percent in the last 4-5 years, would be an understatement,” he says. “Opportunities are everywhere,” points out Puneet. “If you see at any education institute,
corporate office or general business places, you find posters with important information hanging by dozens around. If we happen to examine these posters, we see very crucial information displayed on them. I see a lot of opportunity in printing of these pieces of important and sensitive information by bringing Wide-format Printing ‘In-house’ for customers,” explains Puneet. “I see a lot of
demand to arise from the corporate side as well in near future,” he says. Canon has big plans for the Wide-format sector. The company will be making a few big announcements, including products and solutions and few more things very soon. Just keep reading these columns of PRESSIdeas.

Ansapack: 1st to use Esko workflow tools for primary packaging Esko’s Automation engine helps Ansapack to optimize the packaging supply chain
Ansapack, a multifaceted packaging company based in Mumbai, meets the demands of the pharmaceutical industry for its primary, secondary and tertiary packaging. Providing film, foil, folding carton and corrugated packaging materials, Ansapack is one of the few companies in South Asia, delivering these three types of packaging to its customers. Two-thirds of the company’s business comes from supplying primary and secondary packaging materials to the vibrant Indian pharmaceutical industry. The remaining one-third of its business comes from packaging for food and dairy products and from corrugated transport packaging materials. The Rs.300 crore turnover company has 1,800 employees at its five manufacturing plants in Western India – two in Maharashtra and three in Gujarat.

As Ansapack steadily grows, it is adding to its Esko packaging prepress software modules in order to speed up and automate its workflows and processes such as its current implementation of the Esko Automation Engine tool in its primary packaging division. While the tool has been in use for the last one-and-a-half months, its full implementation will take another month. “We are not designers of packaging. We are converters in every sense of the word and because we are converters we have invested in the Esko Automation Engine tool. We used Esko in the secondary packaging division but now Ansapack is the first company in India servicing the pharma industry to apply the Esko workflow tools in the primary packaging division,” says Gautam Agarwal, joint managing director of Ansapack. Once fully implemented, Agarwal expects Esko Automation Engine to increase customer service levels on the prepress side to speed up the process and deliverables to customers. “With this Esko tool our intention is to convey that we have something unique, which will help us in providing better services compared to what customers are getting in the market,” comments Agarwal.
Several modules improving job management Esko’s Automation Engine includes several modules that improve job management (including milestones. The QA and viewing module has extensive prepress
quality control tools including functionality to compare designs and the ability to view bitmap data. This module contains automated comparison of files in all common prepress formats, images, production files and RIP data. Separations, trim and media sizes and differences between design files and production files can be checked to confirm whether all corrections have been applied. The modules include reporting and integration of 3D data and a Processor Module offering extensive content processing capabilities, both on native ArtPro format as on native PDF data. Automated imposition and step and repeat modules and a centralized colour integration module can also add to the rich set of tools for optimization, standardization and quality assurance of data and prepress forms such as plates and cylinders across manufacturing sites. Quantifying the benefits of the Esko Automation Engine, Ansapack’s Agarwal says “Process time reduction was our main aim when we invested in the Esko workflow automation tool. We upgraded our existing Esko systems and spread the prepress activity beyond secondary packaging to primary packaging as well.” Srihari Rao, sales director of Esko for India says, “We are extremely gratified to see Ansa’s growth as a leading packaging supplier. We believe that we have all the necessary pieces to add to our customer’s investments: increased automation tools, for instance, are necessary to avoid mistakes and to speed up the complete packaging supply chain. ” Talking about plans for further investments in the Esko Automation Engine, Agarwal says that more licenses would be acquired if needed. “As we grow, the load on the Esko software will increase. If we feel we require more licenses we will surely opt for these,” he adds.

Clariana benefits from next-generation inspection technology by ISRA VISION Spanish manufacturer Clariana has ordered a cutting-edge web inspection system by ISRA VISION for inspecting coloured paper. The inspection system identifies and classifies quality-related defects with utmost reliability. ISRA VISION is a prominent name in surface inspection systems worldwide. Clariana is one of the leading Spanish manufacturers of white and coloured paper and liner between 30 g/m² and 250 g/m², sold under its ColorPlus brand. The paper products are used in luxury packaging and security applications, where quality is essential. The company therefore wanted to replace the existing system with a new automated inspection solution for the manufacture of coloured paper.
They chose an inspection system by ISRA VISION. The system has two high-speed cameras with maximum resolution, reliably identifying the smallest of defects, and holes in particular. The high-power LED lighting enables reliable surface inspection in transmission. Despite its high performance,
the LED lighting does not require cooling. By implementing the inspection solution, Clariana wants to continue to prevent defective products from being delivered to its customers. This will reduce the number of customer complaints, attract new customers and minimize production rejects. The extraordinarily high data quality produced by the inspection system also offers direct insight into every stage of the production process. Well-informed decisions can be made swiftly in order to enhance process efficiency and quality in the long run. Another decisive feature was the fact that the inspection system can be easily integrated into the plant and is intuitive to use, guaranteeing that inspection can start quickly.
Sales first for Nilpeter: Three FA-4* presses include a new hybrid UV-curing system Nilpeter is the first press manufacturer to install GEW’s new ArcLED hybrid UV curing system. It will be installed on three FA-4* UVflexo presses, which are designed for high productivity of pressure-sensitive labels and flexible packaging. Two of the FA-4* orders come from large, long-established American converters. The first ever ArcLED hybrid press was acquired by Flexible Technologies based in Orem, Utah, a privately owned company. The second American company is Best Label Co, a privately owned company formed in 1976 and headquartered in Cerritos, California. A third press FA-4* with the hybrid curing system has been delivered to UK-based OPM Group.
For digital InkJet printing too The ArcLED curing system is also an option for Nilpeter’s new PANORAMA
UV-InkJet digital press line. It receives its global debut at LabelExpo Europe. This major development from the Danish press manufacturer integrates many of the company’s inline converting options adapted for full-colour digital printing. The PANORAMA DP-3 prints CMYK and opaque White at up to 50 m/minute (164 ft/min) to a maximum print width of 332 mm (12.67 inches).
How the system works GEW’s hybrid ArcLED system uses uniform lamp-head casings with interchangeable cassettes. As a complementary process, it allows press operators to run with LED and mercury-arc curing units freely positioned on the press to suit specific printing and varnishing applications. Changeovers of individual cassettes take just a few minutes. GEW’s compact Rhino power supply automatically recognises individual cassettes and switches seamlessly between DC power for the LEDs or high-voltage AC for mercuryarc UV curing. This approach also offers converters an economical upgrade path for partial or full LED curing, as well as providing a future-proofed technology.
control systems, is a major benefit. Further energy savings are possible with LEDs, which are either ‘on’ or ‘off’: No energy is consumed while the press stands idle between jobs. ArcLED lamp-heads are available in widths up to 900 mm (36.5 inches). Typical wavelengths are: 405 nm, 395 nm, and 385 nm in power levels up to 22 W/sq.cm. The ready availability of dedicated ink and varnishes, including opaque white inks, has seen LED technology spread from industrial InkJet applications, such as Nilpeter’s PANORAMA DP-3, to a growing acceptance among UV-flexo converters. Different ink formulations also allow its usage for screen process and rotary offset printing. At LabelExpo Europe, Nilpeter will demonstrate an FA-4* press as part of the PackPrint Workshop. Its innovative sleeve system permits an extra-short web path, with easy loading of tooling. It will be producing high-quality flexible packaging and labels in short runs with various repeat lengths at the show.

OMET to introduce UV-LED Curing at Labelexpo Europe 2015 OMET, Hall 6 stand C49-C53, will present UV-LED curing installed on XFlex X6 430mm hybrid flexo+digital inkjet press in Brussels. As a market-first, the UV-LED system supplied by OMET on its printing machines, whether as a new product or retrofit, is the latest-generation of AMS FLEXO Series LED UV system. The system is a turnkey solution for Flexo narrow and medium web printing presses, and networks together up to 20 of AMS’s award-winning and patented XP Series LED lamps at up to 25 W/cm2 each – the highest in the industry. The XP Series LED lamps are 100% solidstate modules constructed in a durable aluminium housing that offers seamless energy emission across any web width, with a working distance range to the web that eliminates the risk of accidental contact. A water-based chilling system ensures long life for the LEDs and a cool, quiet, and safe operation around the press, with a unique system that protects against condensation damage. The LED units from AMS can co-
exist with traditional UV lamps making it possible to switch from UV to LED, and vice versa, if needed. The benefits the UVLED process brings to the printing industry are nowadays quite familiar. They primarily involve two different areas of the printing process: first is the elimination of heatrelated issues, and the second relates to the savings involved in the process.
curing process and elimination of the need for standby time contribute to keep general operating costs low.
Because UV-LED is premised around a digital cool light system, it eliminates the warmup and cool-down time inherent to the UV curing method; also toxins normally released by heat in the substrates are eliminated, as well as the ozone and mercury emissions. Virtually zero maintenance, reduced energy consumption (close to 50% reduction) for the
Other features of the UV-LED system from OMET and AMS are: touch-screen control completely integrated to the press, individual lamp intensity control, automatic lamp intensity setting with web speed, real-time LED output feedback, integrated cooling monitor, and full-featured information logging with 24/7 remote support.

DMI introduces new courses on Art & Serigraphy Screen Printing the CAZAWAY The Workshop on Advance Screen Printing Process on Graphics, UV Print Finishing, UV Special Effects & Packaging will take place on the 27th -28th -29th of Oct 2015. In the Workshop on graphics, commercial and value addition on packaging, Bhargav Mistry of Grafica Flextronica focuses on two aspect of screen printing. On graphics side he demonstrates how to print moiré free, digital like quality graphics using traditional screen printing process with various UV special effects inks and varnishes.
and in his company “Graficaza” he had one division mainly focused and specialised on serigraphy (art screen printing). “So with all his blessings and knowledge today after 9 years I am proud to announce regular workshop on arts and serigraphy screen printing soon at DMI,” states Bhargav.
And on packaging side he demonstrates some innovative ideas to add value into packaging products through screen printing process. The workshop highlights serigraphy (art
screen printing) which is now gaining popularity in India. “Since we have just started working on this new technique in DMI hence it will take few months to master on this subject and bring it into my workshops as a regular subject on this topic,” says Bhargav. “After a long break we shall once again demonstrate how you can earn through serigraphy screen printing using various UV special effects screen printing to add value in your arts and graphics,” he says and adds, “I have observed than in India there
are few serigraphy screen printers and most of them print cut colours (solid flat colours) without halftones so most of their arts do not have gradation and halftones and that’s the reason they end up printing 12-14-16 or sometimes even more colours but they can never achieve gradations in their prints and arts are all made of brush strokes and strokes are mainly never flat tints unless painted specifically with flat colours. So without gradations and vignettes one cannot product exact reproduction of the original art no matter how many colour are printed. Even the separation will take hours to divide image into special colours. As matter of fact, some American screen printers made and often still make serigraphy with 50 printed colours and sometimes more. In the past, Michel Caza printed one time in the seventies 100 colours just as a “challenge”! But to avoid this, he invented in the sixties the “halftones without dots” that allows to print full colour jobs with between 9 and 14 colours. Then, and still now, he put this technique to 7 printed colours.” To print special effects one has to anyway depend on screen printing. No other technology can match it here. In December 2006, DMI was inaugurated by Bhargav’s guru Michel Caza and he conducted two workshops one after another and his second workshop was on serigraphy screen printing. Michel Caza is one of the finest serigraphy screen printers
52
September 2015
After Michel Caza conducted his first serigraphy workshop in DMI, they continued to demonstrate serigraphy screen printing. Very few screen printers showed serious interest on this process because they had to invest on machine and good screen making system which was expensive those days. “But today I don’t see that as an issue because Grafica now has more than thousand’s of screen printers using our Nano range of products. Out of those, many have invested in NPL which includes UV curing machine and 5-in-1 screen making system. Those printers who have screen printing machine, proper screen making system and UV curing machine can very well print high quality serigraphy,” declares Bhargav. So if you have already automated your shop floor and are seeking for some diversification in business or want to learn something new than this is the right time to invest your time and energy to learn serigraphy at DMI and learn how to reproduce arts and paintings using traditional screen printing process.
