EDITOR’S NOTE Happy New Year! I hope you are still relishing the beautiful memories from the cozy get-togethers we all had at home to celebrate the new year. Crazy as the pandemic may be, it has also become a source of inspiration for many - from interesting work from home accessories and furniture to designer masks and sanitsation solutions, we have seen it all in the last 10 months. One thing that I am really proud is people’s love for their home is now on full display! We are fascinated to see how social media is loaded with images of minimakeovers, revamped spaces, and indoor as well as outdoor gardening pursuits. House Prouds have taken this as an opportunity to cherish their so-called den and hey, we can’t thank Indian decor bloggers for keeping this spirit high. Hats off to the energy, enthusiasm and time they invested in transforming what is deemed mundane into a thing of beauty. That’s why, this month, the team at TIHG set out to create a one-of-a-kind issue theme - we call it ‘mini celebration.’ The issue is packed with little happiness such as party-table essentials, hot online decor portals, living room designs, artistic storage ideas, Made In India decor labels run by women and many more stories. I will not jump into gushing over the carefully put together pages for now. Our readers are my favourite people and so explore what my fabulous team has put together with nothing but love for you. Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all – each and every one of you – for your continuous support through 2020. It’s all been immensely gratifying and you are the very reason that it’s been possible to keep the stories coming, month after month.

INBOX LETTER of ThE MonTh It’s been quiet the journey that I’ve had with TIHG. over the years it has been a dependable source of inspiration for all the little revamps that I have managed to execute in my home. Genuinely it has made my home shine with renewed vigour every time. Particularly helpful are the shopping pages as I can actually select from the assembled collection and pick the ones that suit my requirements the best. Thanks TIHG! pratiksha sinha
With the new year upon us, I’ve been reflecting back on what has helped me this past year. All that reflection brought me to write and express my gratitude towards The Ideal Home and Garden and the way in which the team has helped amidst the pandemic changes all around. No matter what, I could turn to the beautiful homes and décor additions that were featured and get inspired endlessly. deepanti Jain, mumbai
With my personal move towards making environmentally friendly choices, I’m so elated that The Ideal Home and Garden magazine has been given us an increasing number of pieces that celebrate sustainable and environment friendly brands. Also, I’m avid foodie myself, so the Food Fetish section is my absolute favourite. I always end up getting tempted into trying them and my family loves that part completely. gayatri nair, Chennai
As much as I can appreciate the contemporary style, Indian arts and crafts are what move my heart. Team TIHG has done a fabulous job of featuring brands that are coming up, with their roots in Indian crafts richness. I especially love the piece that featured ethnic motif based pieces because that appealed to me so much that I ended up purchasing from those very same brands. And my home is better for it. maya Joshi, surat
I was casually exploring the magazine rack a few years back and happened upon a copy of The Ideal Home and Garden magazine. Initially attracted to it because of the featured home on the cover, the overall contents kept me engaged as I flipped through its pages. And that had me hooked. I’ve become an avid read of it now and every month, even through the pandemic, the team has never let me down. Therefore I felt the need to express my heartfelt gratitude in writing. hetal gupta, new delhi

Behind The Design
Design Innovators
Three power-packed women who are making up the new face of the design industry Research: Ruhi Singh
An architect and urban designer by education, Rutuja Kendurkar is a fibre artist by passion. She started Thread101 as a one stop shop in the market for all kinds of sustainable home décor pieces and utility elements. Having showcased her creations in major exhibitions across the country, Rutuja wants to promote Thread101 as a way of giving business to local vendors and women while keeping the focus on sustainability.
THREAD101 IS ALL ABOUT... my fiber art explorations: a creative endeavor that helps me learn, unlearn, and learn some more. It is a thread that attempts to weave décor pieces that are durable, sustainable, purposeful, and aesthetically pleasing. DESIGN FOR YOU IS...like breathing. My subconscious mind is continually working on newer concepts, and I’m always buzzing with passion and energy to get back to my workspace and turn these ideas to creations— knot by knot. THROUGH MY DESIGNS...I wish to create an awareness about sustainable decor pieces and make home/workspace organization more stylish and less wearisome. I DRAW INSPIRATIONS FROM...a number of things. I draw inspiration from my disgust towards reckless misuse and excessive waste. So every time I see an object that has potential but has been discarded, I take it upon myself to give it some TLC. Sustainability drives me. THE DESIGN ERA THAT FASCINATES ME THE MOST... While Scandinavian interior design fascinates me the most, Art Deco holds a special place in my heart. My mandala designs are a direct abstraction of the topmost tier design from Chrysler building. Geometric shapes, straight lines, and a riot of colors are the basis of my designs. WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ABOUT MY WORK... is the freedom of expression and a way of creating free art. In my
quest of creating unique decor elements, this plays a major role. THE RANGE INCLUDES... handcrafted soaps and candles, Bohemian-inspired woven rugs, baskets, wall decor and so much more. THE CURRENT PROJECTS...I’m working on macrame party rentals that include wall hangings and backdrops. Recently, I designed a huge wedding backdrop for a movie that is set to be released mid 2021. DREAM PROJECT...To create mega installations for commercial spaces have always been on my bucket list. But doing interior projects completely styled by Thread101 pieces is the ultimate dream.

Behind The Design
Gurpreet Kaur started Eliteearth in 2018 to create and curate handcrafted pieces for home and garden. With her mantra ‘You can create anything once you see it in your mind,’ Gurpreet’s label is driven by women, even all the products are made by women’s hands, and aims to liven up people’s office desk, windowsill, kitchen, bathroom, living room by lending a green kick to your space. ELITEEARTH IS ALL ABOUT... Nothing but CONCRETE. Concrete in terms of determination, concrete in terms of creating , concrete in terms of sustaining. Eliteearth is where women workers stand equal opportunity like a man worker gets, and all products are majorly made by women in our studio. DESIGN FOR YOU IS...satisfaction and pleasure of creating utility. THROUGH MY DESIGNS... I simply want to talk utility. What ever we produce or design holds multiple utility and are reusable and sustainable. We are working a lot on up-cycling and recycling. I DRAW INSPIRATIONS FROM... nature and history. THE DESIGN ERA THAT FASCINATES ME THE MOST... Mughal era. We draw many inspirations from their architectural
creations. We are going to announce our new range that will show our love for Mughal era. WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ABOUT MY WORK...I love the fact that there is a new challenge to create something new and every time a new product is being made, the challenge of its survival will hit us. The journey between casting to unmold is interesting as as well a learning. THE RANGE INCLUDES...planters, desktop accessories, wall clocks, home décor articles, wash basins and bath accessories, 3-D wall tiles and wall panels. We also have concrete furniture for indoor and outdoor spaces. THE CURRENT PROJECT... We are majorly doing garden and landscape projects, and a few CSR projects. DREAM PROJECT...is to get into beautiful and sustainable public seating across country. I also strongly feel that our world of concrete will be women driven completely and this will remain the most special feeling.

Behind The Design
Keerthi Tummala founded Sage Living in 2018 as a design-first house of decor and furniture with an unrelenting focus on holistic design. Sage Living collaborates with multiple Indian producers and hones a design first approach that brings furniture, lighting, mirrors, home dĂŠcor to retailers, online stores, hospitality and other sectors across the globe. They make it entirely in India to stay rooted to homegrown talent and artistry while maintaining a global style and aesthetic outlook. SAGE LIVING IS ALL ABOUT... Life at home, human connections. A wise person living life, choosing things with quality and what resonates their personality. We want our products to be loved more and more, cherished and enjoyed. DESIGN FOR YOU IS...an emotion. A form of communicating through visuals, textures, touch and feel. THROUGH MY DESIGNS... I want to translate the beauty of various materials and crafts into timeless products, not limiting ourselves to any. We want to communicate the strengths of Indian manufacturing and promote Indian manufacturing through Sage Living. We want our own country people to believe
that a great product with quality and a global aesthetic can be made in India. I DRAW INSPIRATIONS FROM...Many things. Nature, travel, poetry, fashion, technology, architecture and art. There is so much inspiration everywhere and it is limitless. It is about how we translate it into our design. THE DESIGN ERA THAT FASCINATES ME THE MOST...Honestly there is no specific era that I specifically love. It really depends on what I would like to create. It can range from Victorian to the Mid Century or can go all the way to futuristic. WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ABOUT MY WORK...Dreaming. As designers we dream a lot. It super excites me to translate dreams to reality. I get thrilled to see the designs selling on the shop floors and everything turning to reality from just a sketch. Entire process gives me aderline rush. THE RANGE INCLUDES... Furniture, lighting and home dĂŠcor. THE CURRENT PROJECTS...We are currently present in Bangalore and Hyderabad. DREAM PROJECT...We want Sage to spread its wings across many countries and retail globally by 2025.

The year 2021 has a lot to offer and the design world is in full bloom with understanding and interpretations of the trends that will dominate design in 2021. TIHG is elated to have four design experts who give us their top five trends for this year, that indicate the direction towards which interiors seem decisively inclined.

Niharika Saraf, Founder and Principal Interior Designer, Polka House 1. Modern Rustic As modernity in spaces is fleeting, adding a rustic edge to it makes it warmer, cosier and more homely. The sleekness and sharpness of furniture combined with some granular fabrics, burnt colour palettes and everyone’s favourite – cane. This blend makes the space truly yours and allows room for your personality to reflect. It also ends up becoming a design theme that meets everyone halfway.
2. Inclusion of Home Plants
Including plants into your home has become vital. The feel of nature and green within your space is what helps with peace of mind, cleaner air and a feeling of being alive. Plants are like an additional member of the family,
with whom you can’t ever feel like you’re in complete isolation.
multifunctional centre tables that double up as places to work.
Fabrics that feel great on the skin such as suede, faux alpaca and soft boucle seem to be more in trend rather than the harder embroidered or shiny fabrics that give you an itch. These can be in the form of upholstery or just cushions or throws to make sure you are chic while being comfortable.
One of pantone’s colour of year is Ultimate Gray which is every designers favourite shade and will be used somewhere in your home owing to its ability to blend in. Deeper colours such as navy blues, emerald greens and dark maroons seem to be in demand going forward. The past few years have seen the pastel mood being used extensively, however the deeper palette also looks to be making a come back soon!
3. Feel Good Fabrics
4. The Home Office
When it comes to your home, 2020 has taught us the value of multifunctional spaces. The trend going forward is going to be using intelligent hardware and smart design to create collapsible desks, pull out furniture and

Nain Beliappa, Head Designer and Founder, Houseof9Design 1. Two Tone Movement For a bold visual, why chose one colour of paint or wallpaper when you can go with two. There is a range of possibilities here, from wainscoting to flat painted walls to colour blocked walls. Panelled walls add that depth and charm to a room, while colourful hues brings about great pairings. The same can make an appearance even in upholstery, we see two-tone upholstery being a thing in 2021!
2. Botanical Prints
We aren’t only referring to framed botanical prints, but we foresee nature inspired prints all over a home. From real-life botanicals to a feeling of spring, this style of design invokes a sense of being one with nature in growing

urban cities. Botanicals sure make for great inspiration, from actual plants to the use of the colour green itself.
3. Earthy Neutrals
Growing up in plantation homes, this approach to design definitely evokes a feeling of warmth, invitation and comfort. Natural stone finishes, rustic brick cladding, to wood and hardy pieces tie in with serenity and make for a calm oasis to go. This is the look for someone who prefers a neutral home with splashes of soft colour. Vintage finds, repurposed furniture and recycled material perfectly fit into this trend.
4. Ombre Finishes
You can chose to use an ombre effect from your tiling, bedding, furniture to the wall finishes in
your home or office. The gradual shading makes for a chic, creative and interesting space. Even if you tend to shy away from ombre on a large scale, you can also consider using it in decor pieces or your serve ware or drink ware.
5. The Wicker Trend
Looking for sustainable sources, wicker especially rattan is becoming a huge trend in India. We see more and more stores and homes reviving rattan furniture and pieces. It is all natural and filled with so much goodness! This is such a versatile material and can be used extensively throughout a home.
TIHG Special
Shivani Gupta, Principal Designer, Lalittya 1. Nature Inspired Patterns Without a doubt one of the vastly growing trends is incorporating some greens and animal patterns to any space as it keeps one connected to nature. The introduction of such prints in interiors also helps create a cozy, warm and well-connected positive vibe for the space.
2. The Blend of Outdoor with Indoor Spaces
Biophilia, is the connection of humans with nature and one needs to adopt this as a lifestyle. An inclusion of nature or a plant in the indoors or introducing bigger window openings boost
positive energy while also reducing stress.
3. Use of Earthy Tones
Emerald green, cobalt blue and warm natural wood colors are the growing color trends for this year. Post-pandemic, individuals now prefer staying home, working from home and also socializing from private spaces, hence use of earthy tones blended with nature inspired patterns will give an individual peace of mind, warmth and solace.
4. Use of Metal
Metal has been in trend for a few years now,
but what is interesting now is its varieties available in different colours and textures, and the application of the same. In fact, one can be bold enough to use two different kinds of metal colours and textures in the same space.
5. Use of Organic Shapes
Its all about breaking the rules and standing out now. Therefore, one should be open minded and blend in different shapes with each other. Even in the most straight-lined interiors, an eggshaped coffee table would just be the accent that would add magic to it. The Ideal Home and Garden January 2021 |

Upasana Bora, Creative Director and Founder, Upasana Bora & Associates 1. Moderate and Non-Extreme Coloring Choice Colours have such a high impact on our mood and behavior inside our homes. With everything that we’ve collectively gone through in 2020, our homes need more warmth, comfort, and coziness now more than ever. Colors that instill a sense of reassurance and comfort are most likely to be in trend.
2. Biophilic Designs
As anyone who made it through lockdown without an outdoor area would know, nature is important. The importance of mental health has gone up, so the design sensibility is also gravitating towards mental health. Research suggests a strong link between natural elements and mental health, and in today’s tech-driven world this connection becomes even more important.
3. Closed Floor Plans
Learning how to co-exist under the same roof from morning till night, closed floor plans became a boon. More privacy and limited distractions by carving out designated spaces for different activities like, “work from home”
and ”home-schooling” are valuable. Areas for socialization for guest and visitors have shrunk and the area for personal space have in fact, increased.
4. Statement Pieces
Having luxury minimal design spaces is a noticeable change. Clear spaces are becoming more desirable for decor enthusiasts when coupled with some statement pieces. And items of furniture that you love, that draws your eyes straight away, that are unique and perfectly bold for you makes a statement piece!

Scarlet Splendour When I saw furniture pieces from Suman Kanodia's brand Scarlet Splendour, there were such happy emotions I experienced. For starters, I was so surprised that such world level products were made in India and then a sense of pride. The mix of materials, the play of colors, and the littlebig details, all are worthy of a standing ovation. Her start Suman's brother Ashish Bajoria and she started this company for the pure love of design. The appreciation for art, craft and design was instilled in her siblings and her by their mother while
they were growing up. Scarlet Splendour is the result of this passion and the desire to bring to the world extraordinary design. USP of the brand They are a luxury brand that aims to bring trail blazing designs in furniture and accessories to India and the world. They collaborate with international designers to design their products so that Indian craft is translated into a contemporary, hip and relevant language. KAPPASSO When it comes to the cutest and the most neatly finished home stuff for kids, this is one brand that I rely on. Nidhi Agarwal's creativity, her attention to the tiniest of details, and the organic fabrics she uses create a unique allure. Her start Nidhi was always attracted to product design ever since I have known her and subsequently specialized in toy design. As she says, nothing brings her more joy than seeing happy faces at the end of the day. Just the sparkle of joy in a child's eyes is what sparked the beginning of this brand.
USP of the brand Kappasso gives baby accessories a creative uplift while being completely safe. I love how they use only 100% cotton, making its products washable and child safe. Because they are exporting all over the world their products meet all international safety standards. And the best part, everything can be personalized and they are fabulous job at it. Favourite collection Nidhi's favourite collection is ‘The Bunny Story.' It’s a collection formed with beautiful patchwork, giving the collection a subtle yet colourful feel. She just loves the magical way all different colors and fabrics come together to create a unique story of their own.
Her start Kavita realized there was a Dirth of cushion covers in the Indian market. She was always aesthetically inclined and yet wanted to do something which could create a balance between her personal and professional life. This worked out as the best option and the rest is history.
THE CUSHION PROJECT Kavita Jhunjhunwala started working on cushions about one and a half decades ago and the international touch to all the designs of The Cushion Project always stood apart and continue to do so. Her impeccable design taste combined with the practical approach towards cushion usage in our home creates the perfect magic. As she says- what lipstick does to your face, cushions do the same to your interiors.
USP of the brand It’s the variety that’s available in the collection. Be it in terms of the sizes or the kinds of homes these cushions would fit in, from classic to colourful, from a boho to a crisp clean looking home. There is also a wide range in terms of prints and textures available, from plains and stripes to embroidered beauties. Favourite collection For her, it’s their latest collection, Imperfectly Perfect. It’s a collection where a lot of human touch is kept alive, from hand-weaving to handembroidery. The collection is about going back to your roots and bringing back nature into your homes. It’s a collection that celebrates imperfection, something no machine can ever copy. The Ideal Home and Garden January 2021 |

MAGAZINE THE POWER OF READERSHIP MAGAZINES! up by 0.9 crores - IRS Q1 2019 AS THE SUPERHERO All media is growing, and Print continues to grow despite the general belief that Print is declining. Readership is largely influenced by two things - literacy level and your disposable income. If you have money, then only will you buy a newspaper. Luckily in India, both those things have moved upwards. Ashish Bhasin, CEO - Greater South and Chairman & CEO - India, Dentsu Aegis Network and Chairman, MRUC I am very happy that Print is growing across all languages, and that Print titles in Digital are doing well too. The Print industry in India is still robust and effective, unlike in the Western world. Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands, India What is disappointing is the fact that niche publications that serve an important segment have consistently been ignored. A different methodology must be used to ensure correct findings for such publications, but sadly both Neilsen and the MRUC Technical Committee have so far not done this. Hormusji Cama, CEO, Mumbai Samachar I am happy to see that Print numbers are growing because it also proves the point that everything is not wrong with Print, and Digital is not the only way to go forward. Monochrome is here to stay and Ali Baldiwala has taken it a notch higher. His latest project, a high rise residence is a dash of boldness in largeformat, large-impact monochromes. Dubbed as ‘Eye in the Sky,’ the three bedroom apartment looks over the city and the Arabian Sea, making the outdoors an important part in the overall look of the space. Laid out in perfect squares, each room contributes to the seamless continuity and efficiency of the space’s layout. The focus remains on rich materials and textures that underscore the tactility and sensuality of the understated but luxurious home. Outfitted with reflective white marble, the continuous flooring adds notes of serenity to the space, while accentuating all the furniture and colours within the home. “The home is bathed in black and white monochrome, a nice introduction to the various areas of the abode it has been adapted in. Calm and meditative - whether it’s on the geometric patterns or the shutters or a dalmata marble on an accent wall or the rug in a chevron black and white, this monochromatic theme forms the base of the concept - lending character that’s both airy and uncluttered. The array of blue tones i.e. teal, sea green and aqua, give one a sense of space beyond the one they’re seated in, beautifully tying the space together and echoing the overall theme of purity in the minimalistic black and white home,” shares Ali.

Mahesh Karambele. The floor to ceiling window is sufficient to enjoy the cityscape at night where as the wall opposite has a sleek wardrobe with concealed tactile handles. One can witness that the muted fabric tones add the right amount of colour. A small study in a nook is well integrated into the urban space. But it is continuity that can be discreetly observed running through the house, be it the TV wall or wardrobe.
The guesT BeDrooM The quirky furnishings and wall prints appeal to all the senses and add incredible character. The cool and collected guest bedroom has a running wooden floor from Square Foot in chevron pattern that continues onto the bed wall. The show stealer wardrobe is designed in a fluted pattern (bold in matte blue PU) which keeps things sleek and masculine throughout. tihG

Pristine, oPen and diPPed in a serene calm, this gem of white beauty is combined together with light wood and Pastels to create an irresistible allure. Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, the incredible design for this Mumbai house was brought to fruition, marking the impeccable execution and care taken at each step of it. The alluring design plan by Anushka Contractor incorporates with stylised flair the magic of the colour white and that of nature, as this is what the elated owners of the home wished for. Desirous of a home that conveyed an elegant tale of familial comfort, the owner’s, Ruchika Agrawal and Abhinav Mathur have been specifically provided with a bright home by Anushka. As one moves from one space to another, the masterful use of pastel tones, in combination with the white walls, distressed furniture and light wood elements, create interiors that soothe all the senses. And by incorporating indoor greens, the space is given a lightness which effectively serves as an escape from the chaos of everyday city life. Right from the entrance, the house conveys a rooted love for the outdoors and the gifts of nature: greenery, natural air and sunlight. The owner’s wanted to recapture the proximity to nature that their previous dwelling had provided them with. Therefore the sun is allowed to bathe the indoors with sunlight, making it an inextricable element while providing openness and positivity to the space. The house itself has been named ‘A Place in the Sun’ for this reason. And the addition of hand-painted animals and birds

in every window by a commissioned artist furthermore aides in fully capturing this detail-oriented vision, using a personalized and unique flair. In shaping the design plan for this apartment, time was spent to match the aesthetics with the functional requirements put forth. Structural changes were made to facilitate the same, including the modification of the wall that separated the master bedroom from the kid’s room. A camouflaged door was incorporated into this wall, thus giving the couple their privacy while simultaneously granting easy access between the children and parents when required. Even the interiors are visualized keeping in mind the way in which they would serve the lives of their eventual occupants. Anushka details that she has used “cerulean-teal shades as a recurring element through out the house to evoke the calm of the sea. A window frame here or a curio there is all it takes to pop yet pacify.” Throughout the house the interplay of white elements in striking ways with pastel tones showcase a respect for the client’s vision. In addition, to aide family time, the living room has been given free space at the center so as to allow the children to gather and play there with open abandon. This personalized take becomes impressively clear when one enters the bedrooms that have been carefully put together, piece by piece. The master bedroom specifically is a seamless puzzle

that comes together in a way that becomes an external representation of the young family’s tastes and personalities. Immediately visible is the high open shelving of books and a world map wall art, celebrating their love of reading and travel. The kid’s bedroom, in similar fashion is given abundant storage and a bunk bed in accordance with the requirements of their age. But the highlight of the home is the long hallway that connects the bedrooms, which will excite any cinephile. The love of cinema is dear to the family and thus Anushka has enhanced this space using popular posters of movies and actors. No wonder then that this is the family’s favourite bit of the house! There is further a deck area that has been carefully tended to keeping in mind the enjoyment of the outdoors while still staying within the safety and comfort of the apartment itself. An attractive flooring option was utilized to assist in this goal, along with the white effect walls that seamlessly connect the look here with the one adhered to throughout the home. It relays the themes of serene calm right in the middle of the fast paced Mumbai city, and that is why Anushka explains with satisfaction, “this home turned out to be exactly as this family wished and as we had envisaged – a calm oasis of light, indoor greens and an escape from the mundane.” And we couldn’t agree more! Carla Hora (@a_londoners_urban_jungle) “There are some fantastic feelings which plants give us, but more importantly, they can teach us to be more patient, more caring and to pay more attention to details. There’s this peaceful feeling which comes with plants, a calming effect, or even a sensation of protection. My day starts with checking them while sipping a cup of coffee: looking for overnight growth, atypical changes in foliage and if they need to be watered. I do not have a dedicated watering day as every plant has its own needs. They usually get fertilized weekly while actively growing and I keep the humidity levels quite constant. The aesthetics of my urban jungle depend on the mood I am in when the urge to rearrange them kicks in, but it always revolves around each of their light and humidity needs. In general, I either opt to display them like artefacts in a museum, or cluster them to create visual delimitations between different areas, offering intimacy.

Ines osborne (@home.plants.and.three.cats) “Bringing the outside in has become a bit of a fixation. My inspiration comes from two quite different sources: childhood memories of how both my grandmothers crafted incredible green spaces in small inner-city terraces (Porto, where I grew up) and the magnificent Victorian and Edwardian orangeries and sunrooms, where the line between indoors and outdoors is almost impalpable. I try to recreate this sense of fusion between urban and natural space in my home too, not only through plants, but by using natural materials like rattan, and choosing heritage green tones. Of course I would say that adding a plant – or 150 - to any space improves it. But it’s not just aesthetics: like gardening, indoor plant care is very restorative too. Plant care really is a pleasure, not a chore: it helps clear my head, especially after a demanding week at work. You’ll often find me on a late Saturday morning with chilled music in the background, a hot coffee brewing, and a sharp pair of scissors in hand for any plant in need of a haircut – and that’s my happy place.” The Ideal Home and Garden January 2021 |

KIrsty and WIll (@themacramejungle) “We’ve always loved having plants and greenery in our home, but during the lockdown this was more important than ever. To compensate for our lack of outdoor space, we’ve created an inner-city jungle by bringing the outside in! We’ve furnished our flat with mid-century pieces and find that plants really complement this aesthetic. We love styling our plants to suit their needs whilst enhancing our interior. Tending to our plants is an integral part of our daily routine. We find all aspects of plant care extremely therapeutic and love seeing our plants thrive. We’re running out of floor space, so have taken to making macramé plant hangers! This gives us more room for plants, as well as giving us floor to ceiling greenery. Our little jungle really is our haven. And nothing beats relaxing under our canopy of foliage on a sunny day!”

amanda WIllen (@amandaandtheplants) “I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love getting my hands dirty in some soil. From planting flower gardens as a child with my mom, to starting a vegetable garden with my own children, caring for plants has always been a favorite hobby of mine. My love of houseplants started years ago with a big beautiful Golden Pothos. Now, I can’t imagine my home without it being filled with all sorts of different kinds of plants. I try to spend an hour or two every few days tending to them. Caring for them brings me joy and a feeling of peace. They’ve become a part of my home and decor choices. No longer haphazardly placing them in random spots. Many of my pieces of furniture and accessories have been chosen with my plants in mind. Antique finds being my favorite additions. Botanical patterns and green hues fill my home and warm my heart.”

domInIKa (@17m2garden ) “When I moved in to a big city, surrounded by glass buildings and constantly honking cars - I needed a place to relax, a place where I could forget about everything else. So I took upon a journey to turn my completely empty, soulless balcony, that was mostly in shade, into a green oasis. This little jungle quickly became an extension of my living room that I enjoy all year round. The first thing I see through my bedroom window is not anymore a concrete jungle but lush garden with pollinators and small creatures joyfully flying around. I don’t always have the time to take a cup of coffee on the balcony but seeing the sun rising upon this jungle every morning instantly brings soothing sensation and charges me with positive energy for the day!”
