EDITOR’S NOTE When you start something new, do you get that daunting or overwhelming feeling? I have started experiencing it post the closing of each edition these last few months. I’m not exactly scared, thanks to my supportive colleagues, but there is this constant pressure to do better and better with each subsequent edition hitting the stands. Maybe this is because we relish the proximity and bond we share with our readers digitally (due to social media) on a daily basis, that their comments and appreciation make us desirous of living upto their loving expectations. And believe me, this was my dream once! It is such a wonderful gift to be able to create content that is a mix of stunning imagery, ideas and fabulous features with help from talented interior designers and architects. And what makes me even happier is that together we strive to help visualize the aspirations of homeowners everywhere. With these things in mind, we have planned our issue this month, wherein the adage, ‘Create a home you love’ captures it all. Therefore as you go through the issue, you’ll notice a careful selection of pages, filled with homes and ideas for home. From opulent interiors that find their inspiration in royal grandeur and design, to ten masteful architectural facades that truly make a visual impact, we have varied concepts for our readers. Furthermore, answering the environmental call, take a look at the six featured homes that have brought the outside in, integrating the refreshing beauty of nature into the design organically. Lastly, you can experience the outside, especially if you are cooped up inside labouring over a hot laptop. My friend and home chef Manu suggests a romantic sundowner set up. Don’t forget to turn to page 76 to find out some gorgeous buys to freshen up your table. And Happy Valentine’s Day, Folks!

INBOX LETTER of ThE MonTh A Wonderful Delight “I am really delighted to look back at 2020 and rejoice about how positively TIHG has pulled off the year 2020 with much grace and vigour. The stories were all so relatable and specially their digital approach is amazingly engaging. My family loved the Ideal Living from the January’s issue as the visual aesthetics of the project were just marvelous. We are looking forward to more new stories in the coming months. Thank you TIHG!” sumati gupta, Jaipur
In Love With Decor “I do not really have any inclination towards decor aesthetics but TIHG has really changed my views regarding it. The ideas from the team is really practical. The one thing I love the most is that the contents are environment conscious which really creates a sense of responsibility towards our surrounding, keeping intact the regular styling. I want the team to produce more of such stories with houses that are sustainable and biophilic. Eagerly waiting for the next issue.” Jayanti nair, kochi
New Hopes “2020 has been a rough year but it is wonderful to see how the magazine has left no stone unturned in maintaining it’s charm. With much information in the print as well as digital platform, the ideas are meaningful and stylish. I would like the team to work more on topics of green architecture and space saving furniture which are the new trendsetters for 2021. With increased work from home system, these ideas can drastically bring a new evolution in decor.” nitin sharma, new delhi
Grateful Enough “No words can express my sincere thanks to The Ideal Home and Garden magazine for their support throughout the year of 2020. Although we missed the magazine initially yet the team came with much better options of exploring the design. Lockdown has been a boon for all the design fanatics and TIHG has surely supported this. I am really grateful for the ideas specially DIY’s which are super easy and creatively awesome. Thanks a lot.” simran Jaiswal, agartala
Views For Change “With serious changes in design philosophies, I love the way how the brand is constantly evolving. All the articles are reader friendly with practical approaches. I specially love the layout of the magazine as it creates an engaging impact throughout the reading. As we step into this new decade, I suggest the team to bring in more forecasting stories which can be applied by the readers as well in their decor lifestyle.“ sagar kapoor, new delhi

Behind The Design
Leaders To WaTch
We spoke to design personalities who are living life with a purpose every single day Research: Ruhi Singh
GLASS FOREST IS ALL ABOUT... we are glass lovers, passionate experimenters and crazy about nature! We are mesmerized by the beauty, shine and sustainability of glass and wanted to share this joy with the world. DESIGN FOR ME IS... a creation of experience in GLASS. It’s also the process of achieving the said creation. On top of that, design is the result i.e. the things we see, we hear and we feel. For us it’s about taking products from usable to delightful and fun and then beyond – to meaningful.
Founded by Pallavi Chandra and Deeksha Saini, Glass Forest started with the idea of celebrating glass by creating beautiful home decor products. Pallavi comes with a working experience in product design (jewellery and lighting) industry and Deeksha has worked in the luxury lighting industry where she fell in love with glass. Their brand offers anything one can visualise to be fashioned by glass, be it accessories, wall arts, chandeliers, gift items and many more. 22 | February 2021 The Ideal Home and Garden
THROUGH MY DESIGNS... At Glass Forest, each glass product is more than just another beautiful design, it has its own character, unique technique and narrates a beautiful story. Be it the materialization of nature, an ancient process, or a culture, it lends meaning, authenticity, and elegance to everything we do. We take pride in each piece - employing local artisans and craftsmen to work on our products with utmost care, precision, detail and most importantly love! I DRAW INSPIRATIONS FROM...nature as it’s mesmerisingly beautiful, and Indian architecture – rather the amalgamation of cultures and its representation in the architecture of India. THE DESIGN ERA THAT FASCINATES ME THE MOST... Impressionism and art nouveau.
WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ABOUT MY WORK... is exploring glass as a material. Also the feeling of delight on our clients’ faces, when they see the final installations. THE CURRENT PROJECTS... Koi Pond Installation. It is more than just an installation, it’s an attempt to bring the outside world inside. The glass ripples are created in our studio by slumping glass in our furnace at 750 degree celsius. These are combined with brass koi fishes and installed using mirror polished and lacquered stainless steel. DREAM PROJECT...A glass installation, at Delhi airport and then others.
Behind The Design
In 2012, Gauri Malik quit her high paying investment banking job after discovering the village Sirohi in the remote corner of Faridabad outskirts. She fell in love with the scenic beauty in and around the village that boasts of pristine little lakes formed by quarrying and the Kot temple sitting atop the hills that surround it. Her will to bring in positive impact on the villagers’ lives led to registering The Skilled Samaritan Foundation as a social enterprise and Sirohi was to become The Skilled Samaritan’s first village project. To begin with, the foundation launched the Sunset Treks, a unique mutually beneficial initiative between city dwellers and the village, and the amount earned was spent in assisting the villagers with handicraft projects and selling them to people over the internet. The entire idea later led to the conception of Sirohi. Today the brand is known for redefining conscious luxury and uses jute and cotton or upcycled waste from plastic and textile industrial trimmings woven into ropes to make the end product. SIROHI IS ALL ABOUT... making functional objects that make people slow down and reminiscence of a life that was simple, and hopefully this process will bring back the simplicity of our shared past, while slowly composing the story of our future. DESIGN FOR ME IS... taking cues from the many objects of nature that make us happy, colours that are mood changers to create functional products that represent comfortable conviviality.
THROUGH MY DESIGN... I aim to bring about simplicity in everyday living, revive India’s heritage and while empowering women who are the backbone of our country. I DRAW INSPIRATIONS FROM... Brought up in the rustic country side of Uttar Pradesh, I spent a lot of time amidst the diverse flora and fauna at my family orchards in Muzaffarnagar city, so most of my inspiration comes from the earthiness of nature. THE DESIGN ERA THAT FASCINATES ME THE MOST... Today’s design era of a perfect mix of contemporary and traditional. WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ABOUT MY WORK... it keeps me stimulated and rejuvenated, and challenges me on an everyday basis. THE RANGE INCLUDES... furniture, functional storage boxes and outdoor furniture. THE CURRENT PROJECTS... are for penthouses in Mumbai, partnerships with retail brands and creating an outdoor range of furniture using salvages of industrial plastic waste. We really define luxe-sustainable living. DREAM PROJECT... to make a design lab in village Sirohi (which is also name of our brand and the fist village we started work at), where designers and artisans can co-create functional objects of everyday use.

With a vast experience in the creative field, Chanya Kaur has always loved to design and style. She always harnessed a desire to turn her passion into a career, to help people add dynamism, character and their own personal flair to beautifully crafted spaces. Supporting the family business in textiles and managing ‘The Pure Concept’ with her husband and partner Dalbir Singh, has paved the way for Chanya to grow into her calling as an interior design consultant. Through her latest venture The Pure Concept Home, Chanya wants to change that mindset. The Designer’s Table at The Pure Concept Home store is where she helps clients design their spaces from scratch.
TPC HOME IS ALL ABOUT... minimalist living, but with classiccontemporary dynamism. It is an integrated concept store and design studio with furniture, furnishings, and accessories, and bespoke home design consultancy services for ground-up and renovation turnkey projects. DESIGN FOR ME IS... functional, thoughtfully executed with precision, and beautiful. THROUGH MY DESIGNS... I wish to capture the essence of our patrons’ life-journeys in the private and precious sanctuary they call their home. I do so
by striving for a seamless orchestration across functionality, aesthetics, and detailing. I draw inspiration from...Cross-cultural architecture and art as well as the distinct characters of natural textures. THE DESIGN ERA THAT FASCINATES ME THE MOST... 1920s Bauhaus WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ABOUT MY WORK... blending the soft sophistication of minimalism and elegance to create timeless concept spaces. TIHG Trend “Pantone colors for 2021 deeply define the importance of what exists and is natural; which is, the rock solid ‘Ultimate Gray’, in union with ‘hope’ for a brighter tomorrow, ‘Illuminating’. The combination of these two together in any space is so eclectic and brightens it immediately. For contemporary decor, an accentuating color can often add a punch of pop such as yellow, which is balanced well with earthy neutral tones like Gray. The minimal style of design adopts and embraces these tones very well. A combination of such empowering colors enriches and adds glamour to the ambience.” Shares Neha Jain, Co-founder, UDC Homes

“The yellow feels like a fresh wave of energy, enthusiasm and excitement, compensating for the mellow 2020. Looking at these colours can be just like ying yang, striking a balance between the dull and the bright. Bright yellow is a welcoming colour for any space. In a residential space, it works for adults as well as for the kids’ rooms. It doesn’t follow age and its presence is quite enduring. A combination of Gray and yellow are widely used in commercial spaces. This combination adds a playful vibe as well as a sense of maturity. Bright yellow is a great energy booster while Gray balances out with some CALM” says Pankaj Poddar, Co-Founder, Hipcouch TIHG

Project: Hive Firm: OpenIdeas Architects Location: Sura Gujarat Images: Fabien Charuau Hive is conceived and designed as an intelligent, adaptable and sustainable family home at Surat, Gujarat. The form of the house is seeded in the profession of the client Kamalbhai Mistry — who is part of an extremely successful company engaged in making machines for the diamond industry. The architectural presence, undoubtedly, is established by the solar sensor-based facade, which lies at an exciting intersection of art and engineering. Its geometry is inspired by the hexagonal structural patterns found
in nature such as those of honeycombs and carbon crystals — giving the project its name. Analyzed as per the structure, function and mechanism, its design is based on structural strength, transformability and bio mimicry. The unique opening mechanism of the facade positions are derivatives of quality of light exposure and thermal comfort levels inside the house. Experientially, the modules create striking sciagraphy by casting patterns that change with the diurnal rhythm of the sun.
Project: Tathastu Bungalow Firm: Ace Associates Location: Nadiad Gujarat Images: Inclined Studio The front facade of this home is designed in a contemporary style, using modern materials like steel and concrete and earthy materials like bricks, that give the facade a warm feeling. The cross bracing of the steel member gives a dramatic industrial
architecture feel to the entire facade. And the play of light, use of wood and the linear water body in the front garden adds more glamour to the facade. The front garden and landscaping too complement the architectural form well. The Ideal Home and Garden February 2021 |

Project: Hexalace Firm: Studio Ardete Location: Mohali Punjab Images: Ar. Purnesh Dev Nikhanj Considering the arduous climatic conditions involving extreme heat, and Hexalace’s front facing west, the façade emerged as a buffer of stratifying elements. Three inches thick concrete layer with hexagonal interstices has been used as a shading element. To better preserve the sanctity of shade, the screen flows organically creating an artistic visual dilemma from both inside as well as outside. Another layer of hexagonal silhouette made of metal frames is superimposed horizontally across the semi-permeable
concrete screen which doubles up as balcony fence. Furthermore, the main curtain wall has been recessed to leave pockets of air between the screen and the main building to increase the time lag and subsequently reduce the heat gain. Therefore, the facade by its inherent virtue of convergence acts as bronchioles for the structure.
Project: Radiance IRIS Firm: Architecture plus Value Location: Yelahanka, Bengaluru Images: Binsan Oomen Baby Mass Housing is the need of the hour in the world’s fastest growing city, Bengaluru. Within an urban concrete-jungle, Radiance IRIS seeks to be a green refuge from the ever-growing pressures of development. It focuses on a community-centric design incorporating natural vegetation and social spaces which simultaneously achieves the major challenge of high built-up area and low selling price. Iris was a low-cost project. 38 | February 2021 The Ideal Home and Garden
Hence the economy of construction was essential. The facade was designed as a simple expression of the climate response for the different zones within the home. The ground floor which has the daytime spaces or living areas was recessed and clad with quarry waste slate stone to provide a tactile feel.

Inspired by the weaving patterns found in the Indian handicrafts and textile system, the brick jalli is made using two layers. The first is a solid layer of bricks laid in a horizontal pattern without any perforations. The second layer is made using a combination of solid and void volumes with layering. The perforations are planned in such a way that the wind flow is directed into the common area of the built structure and this is done by placing the bricks in 30 and 60 degree angles at fixed intervals. Apart from the perforations the monotonous brick screen

Our approach steps away from conventional circulation and spatial arrangements, by considering the built volume as a breached monolith rather than as a composition of fenestrated volumes and surface renders. The deep void carved out, bridged at the front and rear on the upper levels, creates a meandering, naturally ventilated and social courtyard at the heart of the residence, pulling in views and balconies from all the rooms of the house. Project: Screen Saver House Firm: Manoj Patel Design Studio Location: Vadodara Gujarat Images: Umang Shah
With increasing unplanned urbanization in several developing nations, most residential neighbourhoods have become jungles of concrete and noise – both visual and aural. Built within a congested locality in Central Delhi, the House with a Brick Veil seeks to negotiate the fine line between privacy and connectivity with neighbourhoods. The house is built as a stack of 3 apartments – a duplex for a conservative retired couple and two smaller flats for their married children and families. The brief was to create a calm oasis within this chaotic
For us climate plays an important role in planning and designing our projects. Talking about the corner junction on the South-West façade of the house, an opportunity evolved, to create a large surface area of cladding, due to the openings planned in peripheral series. The aim was to identity a different way to clay vernacular material – clay roof tiles, gave rise to a module, which is low cost and has long life span. Various combinations and patterns were explored that developed a dramatic experience of numerous shadow movements throughout the day according
neighbourhood. In line with the strong tradition of brick production in the region, the House is conceived as a brick masonry structure with a high thermal mass, thereby maximizing daylight and minimizing solar gain. A 345mm thick brick wall wraps around the building as a veil – floating away from it at times, to form intimate courtyards for light and ventilation. While the design of the “brick veil” screens residents from the heavy traffic on adjoining roads, it brings in natural light and ventilation.

to sun’s movement in Indian context. The pattern used depicts, intricate strips carved out from flat clay roof tiles of different sizes. These pieces are all glued together to create one module each. Initially after one module getting ready, through artisanship, a study of shadow patterns were carried out in the studio as part of research to understand the large shadow scale to be obtained. Therefore the beauty of the module generates number of shadows through the profile and enhances the artwork.

Project: Pixel House Firm: The Grid Architects Location: Ahmedabad Gujarat Images: Photographix India Inspiration for design can come from the most unexpected of places, and this one took off from that most fundamental building block of digital imagery — the pixel. Its spirit is rooted in nature, as the home emerged from an intent to embrace natural conditions, taking advantage of views, orientation, and form. The most emphatic manifestation of the pixel concept is seen at the main entrance, which is approached via a series of broad, platform-like steps. Here, the canopy above is articulated as an exposed concrete
structure, perforated with a series of square cut-outs in varying sizes. The large custom-made MS lamps that are suspended within this sheltering element echo this effect. The entire composition creates a certain sense of arrival, of a grand entrance, intensified with the wonderful play of light and shadow that is enacted through the day.
Project: Palm Avenue Firm: Architecture Discipline Location: Vasant Kunj Delhi Images: Studio Recall The idea was to design a home that unites every member of the family and caters to individual ideals of comfort. We achieved this by retaining individual proclivities of the users while carving out varying volumes within a simple rectangular form. The building envelope is finished with ventilated facade wooden panels and stylized glass grids. The facade paneling defines the geometry of
the building and adds to its minimalistic expression. We were tossing between timber and cork as they are both neutral to heat, age gracefully and can be easily removed and reinstalled. However, we chose timber over cork because it can be easily restored to its original finish by oiling it. TIHG

“We as legacy rug makers were wanting to push the envelope on the design front, challenge ourselves, our production methodologies, experiment with weaves etc. In the midst of the pandemic lockdown, I reconnected with my friend Pushkar, Founder of The Grafiosi and Origin One. He’s a designer, photographer and artist, and our aesthetic sensibilities sync up completely. We ended up becoming close friends and wanted to make something together to see how we could challenge each other, and it came at a time that Origin One was contemplating over their Home section. We worked together to create a never seen before collection of rugs for the Indian and global market, something experimental both in terms of design and production, and we did so by relearning from each other and the entire process of rug creation together from scratch at source from the weavers themselves,” shares the beaming Nikita.

The owners were keen to have a look and feel of an independent bungalow while also reflecting their love for nature. The design intent was to create an urban refuge, transporting the occupants away from the oppressive city environment. The design team decided to have a double-height living area to generate a feeling of being outdoors and serve to integrate the spaces around it. A straight corridor runs end-to-end on both levels overlooking the space and connects the public areas with the private spaces. An internal staircase connects the two levels while a bridge on the upper level allows for a second entrance into the house. A palette of carefully assembled materials served as an expression of biophilia. The flooring was done in a bright terrazzo with brass inlays. A rustic brick surface provides the backdrop for the staircase while a travertine-clad wall echoes a natural rock texture. A wooden coffered ceiling emphasizes the scale of the double-height space. The designers at Humming Tree were always fascinated and captivated by dark passages and spaces. Situated amidst the coastal region of Kannur, Kerala, the designers were called to check out this home and were told to design a bedroom interior at first. Black or dark tones are one of the unusual choices in the color scheme when it comes to shaping cool bachelor pads but the designers wanted to give a stunning look to the space. The sinister backdrop allows the beautiful light fixtures and the wonderful vase collection to shine through brilliantly. This bedroom was designed to have white ceiling which, in most cases, would be an unnoticeable feature. However, in this case it stands out, mainly in contrast with the dark walls. The walls are not just black but also matted with a tint of Ruassian blue color. They are complimented with elegant custom made brass handled wall mounted lights. To create a uniform décor, the curtains are also a shade of black and the wooden plank flooring is diagonally angled to give a different perspective. A well-designed bedroom can be very relaxing and comfortable if decorated even in black. In this case as well it has a deep ambience because of the dark walls and furniture but the grey rugs, bedding and fur foot bed creates some charming contrast. Project: Jungalow Firm Neogenesis+Studi0261 Principal Architects: Chinmay Laiwala Jigar Asarawala Tarika Asarawala Design Team: Gopal Suthar Umesh Anghan Location: Sura Gujarat Images: Ishita Sitwala The project aimed to create an economically modest built form for an agriculturist and his family. Abstraction of urban farming could be seen in both exterior and interior spaces. The design uses the natural light and the built form to its advantage. The heart of the structure is the double heighted courtyard which is embellished with creepers and climbers. The green curtain cuts the direct entry of west sunlight inside the house and creates a buffer. The view from the spaces offers a glance of voluminous courtyard. Circular windows in bedroom, out-looking the landscape serves as a natural picture frame. The basic building materials are kept to its natural form and texture to comprehend the naturality of flora. The biophilia design turns the house inside out embarrassing greens while giving soft touch through the use of natural materials in its pure form. 68 | February 2021 The Ideal Home and Garden

Project: The Skewed House Firm: Studio Lagom Principal Architect: Hardik Shah Design Team: Sweta Gajiwala Doriwala and Kruti Sheta-Patel Location: Sura Gujarat Images: Photographix India Natural objects, shapes, and processes have often acted as a source of inspiration throughout the history of architecture. But we believe that nature itself has to be treated as an integral element in architecture. Rather than surrounding the building by greens, we try to infuse it itself within the design. It brings life as well as colour to that mundane space. Apart from that natural elements like water features including the spouts, flowering plants etc. can grab the attention of an individual as it evokes the senses. Rather than a fixed artwork on a plain wall, just by adding the element of light and shadow, a dynamic artwork can be created, which keeps on changing throughout the day. We believe to strike the right balance between less and more in architecture, and the design which resonates with nature. The Ideal Home and Garden February 2021 |

At the heart of The Far Site House, is a connection to nature. The signature features like the waterbody, and the landscape bring a sense of ease and tranquility. Almost all areas of the house have visual access to the garden, which provides a pleasing focal point for a home, enhancing the feeling of being with nature.

Project: The Plane House Firm: Spacefiction Studio Principal Architects: Baba Sashank Vindhya Guduru Design Team: Santhosh Kandanala Location: Hyderabad Telangana Images: Monika Sathe Photography A large housing development looks directly into the long east boundary of the plot. All the rooms facing road side are finished with a series of concrete planes that act as shields from the prying eyes of the neighbors and the traffic of the abutting road. These shielding planes themselves arrange around an open water body, such that most spaces could look into it while maintaining privacy. The concrete planes are grit finished with two shades to break the scale and topped with steel grey granite coping. Large projection boxes jut out of these planes, at the corner of the rooms on the first floor; which act as small, private indoor balconies. TIHG

Hail Royal Infusion Ornate and opulent, designs that celebrate the royal flair are reminders of a time that is seeped in luxurious allure. These four designers have envisioned and brought to fruition the rich infusion of royal interiors into the contemporary landscape, that seamlessly transports one to indulgent splendor. Research: Arushi Chaturvedi
Firm: A Square Designs Principal Designer: Ajay Arya Location: kolkata Images: Photographix India
“The clients wished for a statement in spatial luxury, a contemporary living space with ethnic accents — a home that would have a traditional spirit and modern expression. The 5bhk home was converted to a 4bhk one, with one bedroom being ‘erased’ to create larger spaces, keeping Vastu in mind. The contemporary-meets-ethnic aesthetic was articulated as a bare, modern shell that would house elements with classic styling such as cabriole legs, Chesterfields, scrolled arms and backs, and stately two-poster beds. Luxury is expressed via a high-end material selection and rich finishes. Unusual natural stones with extraordinary colours and graining, exotic hardwoods and veneers, pure leather, opulent velvets, high-gloss lacquers, silk carpets, and engraved and beveled glass create layered, nuanced and eloquent compositions.” 72 | February 2021 The Ideal Home and Garden
TIHG Decor Firm: Sthapatya Principal Designer: Ritu Khandelwal and Sandeep Khandelwal Location: Jaipur Rajasthan
Ritu Khandelwal, Co-Founder of Sthapatya points out, “The infusion of royalty in residences is all about creating visual imagery with the intricate interplay of exotic materials such as Venetian mirrors, marble overlays and inlays, crystal and bohemian chandeliers, glass micro-mosaics on walls, Roman domes and Corinthian columns, wrought iron and intricately cast metal gates with theme complementing lighting, drapes that forming a flowing backdrop to areas, back-lit onyx in toilets, teak wood paneling on walls, Persian carpets, silver metal furniture and more... Attention to detail and interaction of materials whilst creating a distinct design aesthetic are the core tenets of injecting regality in an area. At Sthapatya, we also emphasize on the beauty of handmade and its unique artistry to not only revive vanishing arts and crafts but also breathe a little bit of past into the present.” The Ideal Home and Garden February 2021 |

“The French connection is a timeless translation of luxury that nurtures the solace of a household. The client’s multivalent excursions nurtured in him an urge to own a house that is a statement of luxury without compromising on the feeling of warmth and coziness. Hence the classical French style was the perfect take – it returns to tradition and comfort yet does not compromise on style and glamour. The house is characterized by polished marble floors, decorative ceiling and ornately carved furniture rendering it both trendiness and uniqueness in its context. The exquisite use of stone, molding and carvings renders it a palatial appearance. This house offers its inhabitants an experience of walking into a luxury hotel while at easement of their dwelling place.” 74 | February 2021 The Ideal Home and Garden

“Heralding the era where maharajas and sultans ruled all over the subcontinent, Shilpi Sonar has beautifully crafted the interiors of this residential bungalow. Keeping in mind the interiors of palaces fit for royalty, this bungalow is the most glamorous residence, the city of Raigarh has ever seen. Spread over a sprawling 10000 square feet, its traditional interiors tie it to the rich cultural history of India, elevating the overall aesthetic value associated with the city. Keeping in mind the sheer scale and magnificence of the bungalow, Mrs. Sonar went out of her way to incorporate customized elements into the household in order to give it a personal touch that gives the house its own identity and sets it apart from the rest of the luxurious interiors by tying it to the deeprooted and all-encompassing culture of our great country.” TIHG

For a chilly winter evening sundowner you just need music, cocktails and of course lipsmacking food. Creating a buffet table at such events works best as guests can simply pick up food and enjoy. The idea is very simple, start with cocktails, finger food as the sun goes down and then party into the night with dinner being served as well. So invite your loved ones, friends and family and give them a nice experience with a well planned winter sundowner evening," shares home chef Manu

80 | February 2021 The Ideal Home and Garden
• To begin making the Vegetarian Thai Green Curry recipe, we will first make the Thai Curry paste. • To do that, we will first have to prepare the lemongrass. First trim away and discard any root section below the bulb base. We will also now remove the dried part of the root until we reach a stage we know that the root cuts easily and is tender. • We don't use the leaf part of the lemon grass for the curry paste, you can use it for flavouring a tea or a soup. • Continue the same procedure for the remaining lemon grass stalks. • Add all the ingredients for the paste into a blender and a little bit of water. Cover the blender and grind the mixture to make a smooth paste. • After a few seconds of grinding, open the blender and stir to combine the rest of the ingredients that are required to make the paste - green chillies, coriander leaves, basil leaves, peppercorns, onions, spring onions, garlic, ginger and salt. • If required add a little more water to grind into a smooth paste. • Transfer the Thai curry paste and store it in a glass jar. You only need to use 3 tablespoons of the paste for a single recipe of Thai curry. So with this paste you will be able to make Thai curry at least 3 times over.
- MetHOd FOr tHaI green Curry
• Heat a teaspoon of oil in a heavy wok. • Add in the vegetables like carrots, zucchini, broccoli and bell peppers. • Add in some salt and stir fry the vegetables on high heat until lightly tender. Once tender turn off the heat and keep aside. • Add a teaspoon of oil into the hot wok, next add in 2 to 3 tablespoons of the Thai curry paste and saute for a few seconds in the oil. • Next add in a cup of water and stir to combine into the curry. Next we will add in a tablespoon of brown sugar and finally 400ml of the coconut milk. • Stir to combine all the ingredients. Once combined, add in the salt, stir and allow the mixture to thicken a little and come to a boil. • Once the mixture comes to a boil, add in some torn basil leaves and the stir fried vegetables. Stir the mixture, give it a light boil and the Vegetarian Thai curry is ready to be served. • Serve the Vegetarian Thai Green Curry Recipe with a bowl of Steamed Rice or Jasmine Rice to enjoy your Thai style Meal.
