3 ways to empower women in your community and worldwide

Empowered Woman Worldwide.

(BPT) - Female entrepreneurs make up approximately 1/3 of all entrepreneurs worldwide, and it's always a great time to highlight, support and applaud women in business, in your community and across the globe.

Here are a few easy ways you can celebrate and support businesswomen and female entrepreneurs.

Shop women-owned businesses.

Know about a restaurant, shop or service-oriented business in your area that's owned and operated by women entrepreneurs? (If you don't, do a little online research to find some.) Go out of your way to shop at their location, refer friends and family members to their businesses and be sure to let them know that you support their efforts in your community. Give them a

boost by posting a positive review of their business on social media. Helping female-owned businesses thrive is a great way to empower women in your own backyard.

Mentor women and girls in your industry. Find ways to offer female students and younger employees a chance to learn more about educational and employment opportunities in your own field. Contact career counselors at high schools or local colleges and offer to let students shadow you at work, or give them a chance to do an infor-

mational interview with you to learn more about your business. Help them get connected within your business network and share your experiences.

If your employer is willing, develop an internship or on-the-job training program to encourage and empower upand-coming women in your industry.

Support companies actively involved in projects that empower women.

Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. and Dove Chocolate have pledged $1 million to CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, specifically to empower women in West Africa. Dove Chocolate and CARE partnered to empower women in the cocoa growing communities of Cote d'Ivoire after an assessment of women's involvement in West African cocoa farms found that women were not benefiting from cocoa production, even though they participate in more than half of cocoa-farming activities.

The first stone was recently laid on a new marketplace for women-led businesses in the village of Gueyo, a centrally located commerce area nestled among the cocoa fields of Cote d'Ivoire. Consumers can help support these efforts, as $5 will be donated to CARE with every online purchase of qualifying Dove Chocolate Promises.

“From time to time, it’s important to consider your personal goals, and how you can make positive health choices,” says AMA President Barbara L. McAneny, M.D. “Small lifestyle changes today can have a lasting effect in improving your health.”

To help you get start, Dr. McAneny and the experts at the AMA are offering 10 recommendations to help you determine where you can make the most impactful, long-lasting improvements to your health.

1. Learn your risk for type 2 diabetes by taking the self-screening test at DoIHavePrediabetes.org. Steps you take now can help prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.

2. Be more physically active. Adults should do at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity, or 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity activity.

3. Know your blood pressure numbers. Visit LowerYourHBP.org to

better understand your numbers and take necessary steps to get your high blood pressure -- also known as hypertension -- under control. Doing so will reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke.

4. Reduce your intake of processed foods, especially those with added sodium and sugar. Also reduce your consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and drink more water instead.Place each veal cutlet between two pieces of plastic wrap, and pound

9. Make sure your family is up-to-date on their vaccines, including the annual influenza vaccine for everyone age six months or older.

10. Manage stress. A good diet and daily exercise are key ingredients to maintaining and improving your mental health, but don’t hesitate to ask for help from a friend or mental health professional when you need it.

5 Tips To Make Your Healthy Goals A Reality!

Here are five tips to kick-start your goals with small, healthful changes that can become part of your life - for good.

1. Goal: Exercise one hour every day Kick-start: Add movement every day in 5- to 10-minute increments. Take a short walk around the office, stroll outside during the lunch hour or after dinner, jump on that exercise bike in the basement for a spin each morning or dance to music while you're getting dinner ready. Sticking to a short period of movement a few times a day is a great way to boost energy and start building the exercise habit.

While most of us find it hard to commit to big chunks of time, it's tough to say no to 5 or 10 minutes. Arrange to walk with a friend if that helps keep you on track.

2. Goal: Drink eight glasses of water every day Kick-start: Increase water consumption by one glass at a time when you first wake up, or before lunch and dinner. Drinking water before meals helps you feel full and aids digestion. If water doesn't entice you, make it easier for yourself by finding a water

bottle that's easy to carry around. Add a splash of lemon or lime for flavor. Once you're in the habit of drinking water before one meal, it will be easier to add a glass before other meals as well.

3. Goal: Cut out all sugar Kick-start: Find healthy alternatives to reduce your sugar cravings.

Try Monk Fruit In the Raw, a zero-calorie sweetener made from the vine-ripened monk fruit, which is native to Southeast Asia. This certified vegan, naturally gluten-free product can be added to recipes, smoothies and more.

4. Goal: Cut out all snacking Kick-start: Find healthy, easy-to-prep snacks to stave off cravings for junk food, and to prevent you from overeating at mealtime. Because both of these trending diets recommend eliminating sugar and any artificial sugar substitutes, a sweetener such as Monk Fruit In The Raw is a great alternative. Cutting all carbs or dairy can be too challenging for most people - try reducing the "forbidden items" gradually to wean yourself from your usual eating habits.

2 egg whites 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted 6 packets Monk Fruit In The Raw 1 cup blackberries 1 and 1/2 cups unsweetened whole milk Greek yogurt Directions: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In large bowl combine Brazil nuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, almond meal, flax seeds, chia seeds, egg whites, coconut oil and monk fruit. Mix until thoroughly combined. Spread mixture on baking sheet. Bake 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes until lightly browned and fragrant. To serve, divide a few blackberries among 4 parfait glasses. Top with a spoonful of yogurt and 2 tablespoons of granola. Repeat layering once more, finishing with granola on top.

Store leftover granola in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 month.

Mini Interview SHAKEENA BRANTLEY Q: Introduce yourself, tell us who you are?what you do? What inspired you to help couples and women with infertility?

A: My name is Shakeena Brantley I am the founder and CEO of Saving Sarah - a leading-edge, fertility supportorganization. Saving Sarah is a companywhich combines faith and Clinical knowledge producing amazing results. I have obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Psychology from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton and my Master Degree in Social Work from Florida International University, Miami FL. I then obtained my License in 2014 as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

I believe one of the most sacred elements of womanhood is the act of giving birth to a child. Like so many other women, I learned that this cherished right of my own was threatened by infertility. It was through my own pain that God planted my purpose. I desired that no woman should have to endure this alone.

I am a fertility advocate who aspires to equip women with the tools, faith , and support needed to survive infertility. I also speak to women on several platforms at local agencies and organizations. I am married to my college sweetheart and God-fearing husband and our union is blessed with 3 beautiful kids.

Q: What advice would you give a couple, when there's one person in the relationship that wants out completely, and they have express to their spouse I don't love you anymore?

A: I would advice/ask them what are they seeking "out" from. What is it they

are leaving or running from? I would ask them whats motivating this feeling? I would advice the couples to seek help. Speak with a counselor, an unbiased, non judgmental, and impartial perspective to sit with them both. A Counselor can help them walk through this feelings and find the root cause of "I don't love you anymore". Yes even if they have already made spin their minds that they want to leave, thats fine too but an impartial party can even assist with a healthy separation/ divorce.

Q: Today looking back at your mother and father's relationship, name one thing that stuck with you that makes you successful in marriage counseling today?

A: Well my mother and father are not married, however, their relationship did show me what not to do and what behavior not to display. Their toxicity is what stuck with me. Sometimes its not what we see but what we dont see that makes our marriage and relationship successful. We have to be careful to ensure we do not try too hard to make our marriage look like anyone else's marriage. Its great to look at the marriage of others but marriage is not one size fits all. What works for one marriage may not work for yours and vice versa. Through trial and error, communication and through check ins we can find out what will make our own personal marriages successful.

The other part to this is the word "successful". Success is subjective and up to interpretation by each individual. What defines success for one relationship may not translate success to another.

So first would be to define what suc-

cess looks like within your marriage.

A: Right now we are accepting bookings for the "Couples Clinic". The "Couples Clinic" is booked by local churches, organizations, conferences, or even private couples events. The "Couples Clinic" offers exercises, worksheets, prayer, group activities, and one on one quick intense mini sessions. Our main resource is always based from scripture and faith. Couples will received a great balanced combination of clinical and faith based direction and counseling.
