A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

A

s we wrap up the last few days of the Club’s 60th year, it is time once again to cherish the history of this Club and to look forward to all that the Club can be. We are blessed with a beautiful location. Your Board and the Committees are working hard on investments that bring out its beauty, and enhance your enjoyment, and you will see continued improvements in the months to come. It’s been an active time. We bid farewell to Dirk Zander, the GM, for the past 10+ years, and wish him well. We welcomed Pilar and Mark into acting co-GM roles. They are already making a difference, and I am sure you are feeling the new energy in the Club. The new feedback system is settling in and monthly reports are now available on the website. The first month showed an encouraging score, but more importantly, the Club has created a process to prioritize and take action on suggestions. The new menu is a hit and offers a great range of choices. The Club opened up free fitness classes in December to help fight off the dreaded holiday bulge, and are ready with a wide range of classes to satisfy healthy resolutions for the New Year. The golf course is playing beautifully, and the much needed rains, coupled with our wells are setting us up for the next year. As we look forward to 2019, the Committees are busy creating their agenda for the New Year, and selecting their leadership, and I encourage all of you not already part of a Committee to get engaged. The season of joy lives year round at our Club. I hope you will spend more time here, engage deeper with the larger community, and spread the word.

2018 TURKEY CUP

GOLF

GOLF TIP

BY MARK SIVARA, HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL Well, winter is officially here. Here are some tips to help you through the wet and cold weather: 1. Have an extra towel in your bag that you keep dry and only use to wipe off your hands before you hit a shot. 2. Layer your clothing to stay warm with breathable fabrics, not cotton. The newer products work great. Wear long sleeves underneath your golf shirt, a lightweight sweater, then an outer piece that is waterproof and lightweight.

The annual Turkey Cup took place on Wednesday, November 21. The Thursday and Saturday 12 Man Teams battled each other and all should be commended for their efforts to complete the event while enduring rainy, wet and breezy conditions. In the end, Captain Jim Cunningham and the Saturday Team prevailed, winning for the 4th year in a row, by a score of 28-8.

3. Have a pair of winter gloves for both hands, or rain gloves to protect your hands and keep them warm.

18 HOLE LADIES HALLOWEEN TOURNAMENT

4. Keep hand warmers in your golf bag. 5. Umbrella...I know...but everyone should have one.

Overall Gross: Kimberly Lin, LuAnn Schwab, Roseanna Johnson, Xin Liu Overall Net: Kirsten Michelsen, Maxine Warren, Sherri Fujieda, Sue Jarvis

6. Lastly, a waterproof hat. They make baseball hats and bucket hats. If you only play in fair weather, good for you. But if you play all year round, buy your products now. Chloe can also order any brand you like. I suggest Zero Restriction, Nike, Adidas and Under Armour. See you on the course!

2019 TALL TREE MEN’S INVITATIONAL SEPTEMBER 13, 14 & 15

This is the event where you bring your best friend, brother-in-law, father, son, college roommate, etc. A fun golf event where the Club goes all out to make it the best event of the year. For those golfers who have not participated before, it is open to all levels. We have flights for handicaps in the mid to high 20’s. Friday, Sept 13: Practice round followed by dinner. Saturday & Sunday, Sept 14 & 15: Tournament days. PALO ALTO H I LL S
