hen new, improved technology becomes available, it can be costly and complex to upgrade an intercom system. That can be further complicated by the multitude of different wiring configurations found in multiple-occupancy residential buildings. Hikvision’s new 2-wire HD Video Intercom System has been designed to overcome this issue, allowing existing wiring infrastructure to be reused, for quick and cost-effective installation. This is applicable to a multitude of wiring topologies and apartment settings, including multi-building or single building or single floor scenarios. Like other intercom systems, the Hikvision 2-wire HD intercom solution consists of a door station, a video and audio node, a floor shunt, an indoor station, and wiring. But Hikvision’s system can transmit a larger bandwidth over existing wiring infrastructure. This breakthrough allows for clearer images and more efficient control signal transmission, comparable to IP products. Installers benefit from plug’n’play simplicity: all they need to do is power it on, and utilise the device’s DEC knobs for basic configuration such as room or building number setting. More advanced set-up, like device activation, issuing of entry cards or tokens, and adding personal info, can be done through the installer’s phone, with AP mode on.
The system has been designed with users of all technical capabilities in mind. There’s no need for specialist computer software in resident set-up. They just connect their mobile phones to the device’s Wi-Fi hotspot, and they can complete all configurations via mobile browser. Ongoing maintenance is also a breeze. Device connection status can be monitored via mobile app or the system’s floor shunt, and any problems identified and located swiftly. These can then be addressed with the minimum of fuss, saving time and hassle for residents. For users, the intercom’s 7-inch touch screen provides a tablet-like operating experience. And the Hik-Connect mobile app provides genuine remote control: calls can be received, live video feeds checked, and doors unlocked, from anywhere, at any time. Image quality is outstanding, with 2MP resolution, wide dynamic range (WDR) and low-illumination visibility for backlit or evening calls, and wide angle viewing so all potential visitors can be observed with ease. Users of the 2-wire HD intercom solution always experience crystal-clear video from the door station to the indoor station, providing exceptionally clear outdoor visuals. With exceptional image quality, intuitive controls, seamless installation, and effortless maintenance, Hikvision’s 2-wire HD Video Intercom System is the ideal choice for owners and renters alike in multi-occupancy buildings. www.psimagazine.co.uk

RISCO
Opening up installer markets with RISCO’s LightSYS+ integrations
2023 has seen the continued expansion of RISCO’s portfolio of integrated professional cloud-based solutions, providing security contractors with the opportunity to grow their markets via the cost-effective installation of high quality, easy to use systems
R
ISCO was the first company to introduce cloud-based security to the UK and Ireland intruder market, and central to the product range of the pioneering manufacturer and distributor of professional security solutions is LightSYS+, the company’s flagship scalable hybrid intruder alarm system. Suitable for projects ranging from residential to large, multi-site commercial and industrial contracts including Grade 3

EDIT - Risco.indd 2
installations, LightSYS+ enables installers to broaden their market reach to include some of the most interesting – and lucrative – commissions available. A PSI magazine Premier Award Intruder Alarm Product of the Year winner, LightSYS+ was designed to deliver significant time and cost savings to installers. The solution is backwards compatible, enabling contractors to quickly upgrade legacy systems. It may also be easily expanded to include up to 512 zones. The product includes onboard IP and Wi-Fi, ensuring continual connection to the RISCO Cloud platform, allowing remote configuration. Since the launch of LightSYS+ in early 2022, RISCO has created a series of integrated solutions to promote installer entry into two rapidly expanding market sectors: smart automation and access control. Both integrations preclude the complexity of combining standalone systems, facilitating quicker, easier and cost-effective installation and the maintenance of healthy margins, even in the face of tight customer budgets as the cost-of-living crisis persists. They also allow installers to carry only a relatively small amount of stock and to train their engineers in the fitting of just one product. www.psimagazine.co.uk
12/01/2024 18:42:58
The latest LightSYS+ integration is the RisControl Controller for Alarm and Smart Automation. The solution was created in response to the expansion of the smart automation market, which is expected to grow by 20% between 2021 and 2028 ((https://www. fortunebusinessinsights.com/industry-reports/ smart-home-market-101900). RisControl may be easily integrated with up to 200 of the customer’s existing Z-Wave automation devices irrespective of brand in as many as 32 rooms. It incurs only a relatively small additional investment to that of a standalone system, enabling installers to provide end users with an affordable professional solution that protects against cybersecurity threats and meets insurance criteria comprehensively, unlike many DIY solutions. RisControl Controller for Alarm and Smart Automation combines convenience and energy-efficiency with an enhanced level of security, providing a higher degree of proactive protection than autonomous security solutions. Users may create event rules - for example where exterior lights are activated by intruder detection - so deterring trespassers from breaking into a property. They may also preconfigure integrated scenes without risk of human error: when occupiers vacate a building, doors lock, automatically and shutters close. Time-scheduled rules can be created, with lights programmed to switch on at specific times to give the impression of occupation. Users can easily manage security, video and smart automation remotely from a single control panel and via app, and the solution features Alexa integration. The launch of the new smart automation integration follows that of LightSYS+ Access Control in late 2022, which enabled installers to expand their businesses into the high-end residential and large-scale commercial sectors – including those in the office, logistics, retail, hospitality and manufacturing industries where access control is increasingly stipulated. Another backwards compatible solution, the integrated alarm, access control and video verification system provides end users with an economical alternative to projects involving up to 32 doors, for which separate access control and intruder alarm systems are unnecessarily expensive, providing excessive levels of functionality. Both RisControl Controller for Alarm and Smart Automation and LightSYS+ Access Control integrate with LightSYS+ via RISCO Bus. The most flexible wiring topology on the market enables devices to be simply wired in a single-line “daisy chain” protocol, instead of or in addition to a traditional “star” layout, www.psimagazine.co.uk

n the surface, TXF-20TDM may seem like your typical beam sensor, but at TAKEX, we like to do things differently. Our Japanese engineering team have been hard at work with their shrink rays and fairy dust, squeezing our industry leading double modulation circuitry into a compact, first-of-itskind, battery operated Twin Beam. We’ve all experienced sun glare while driving and the dazzling effect it has on our eyes, well this can be challenging for the optics of an infrared beam too. Rather than equip them with sun visors or have them reach for a pair of sunglasses, we encode a signature within the beam signal which allows us to filter external light frequencies for enhanced rejection of direct & reflected sunlight, vehicle headlights
Accurate alignment is crucial for maximizing the effectiveness of any beam sensor. The TXF20TDM simplifies this process with improved optical sights, an audible tone, and voltage monitoring jacks. These features provide real-time feedback, ensuring that the beams are perfectly aligned for optimal detection performance.
A wall of invisible protection With its exceptional performance, wireless flexibility, and user-friendly features, the TXF20TDM is the ideal choice for a wide range of applications. It provides a reliable, invisible wall of protection between two points, guarding against unauthorised access and ensuring the safety of your premises.

Bosch
Motion detectors with improved catch performance and false-alarm immunity
The new Commercial Series motion detectors from Bosch have improved catch performance and false-alarm immunity thanks to MEMS sensors
M
EMS (microelectromechanical systems) sensors really are multitalented. These tiny “all-rounders” provide convenience, safety, and security in everyday life. They can detect mechanical, magnetic, and even chemical changes reliably and with great precision, and convert these into electrical signals. This innovative technology is now also finding its way into security technology. Thanks to the MEMS sensors used in them for the first time, the Bosch Commercial Series (Gen2) motion detectors recently launched in the EMEA region boast even better catch performance and false-alarm immunity. They also deliver all the tried-and-tested benefits of TriTech detectors, which have a detection range of up to 15 metres and are used inside commercial premises with a moderate to high security risk, such as office and factory buildings, banks, and retail outlets.
Improved motion detectors thanks to MEMS acceleration sensors

EDIT - Bosch.indd 2
The MEMS sensors Bosch is using in the Commercial Series (Gen2) motion detectors are ultra-small high-performance acceleration sensors like those used in smartphones, for example. “With even better impact and vibration compensation and no mechanical contacts, these sensors offer maximum false-alarm immunity,” explains James Mottorn, a sensor expert and product manager at Bosch Building Technologies. Since there is therefore also no need for a mounting screw for the tamper contact, the anti-mask version now takes even less time to install. What’s more, the MEMS sensors make it even easier to spot attempted tampering at the place of installation, whether someone is trying to pull the detector off the
wall or remove brackets and swivel joints. As part of the update, Bosch has also further enhanced the detector’s RF (radio frequency) immunity. In the new devices, this is now up to 6 GHz, providing the motion detectors with even better protection from interference caused by Wi-Fi routers, which typically operate in this frequency range. Another plus point of the new generation is that the integrated EOL resistors can now be selected more quickly during installation because the jumpers have been replaced by user-friendly switches. Last but not least, the innovation boasts further optimised anti-mask monitoring for the sensors, which is now more sensitive to attempts to block the sensors using paper or spray paint, for example. Likewise, the improved anti-mask monitoring can also identify objects such as advertising banners that have been inadvertently placed in front of the detector.
Proven TriTech technology The new Commercial Series (Gen2) motion detectors share the established benefits of TriTech technology – a combination of PIR and microwave Doppler radar technology plus advanced signal processing. After all, especially in a setting with an elevated security risk, any movement in an area needs to be detected quickly and reliably without triggering any false alarms – even in challenging environments such as locations with strong air currents, moving objects, and difficult light or temperature conditions. Like all Bosch motion detectors, the Commercial Series (Gen2) models are easy to install, which cuts installation costs. They are also built to last. Bosch motion detectors come with a five-year guarantee as standard. In the EMEA region, TriTech detectors even come with an eight-year guarantee.
One of the biggest suppliers of MEMS sensors Bosch is one of the biggest suppliers of MEMS sensors for vehicles and consumer electronics worldwide and has already produced more than 18 billion sensors. Elmdene
Use Elmdene’s Li-Power solution to help installers make the switch to IP The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) shutdown is in the process of happening in the UK now. Are you ready for this game-changing technological shift within the security and fire industry, and have you considered Elmdene’s Li-Power solution? Elmdene has engineered a simple solution to your upgrade, a standalone power solution called Li-Power to house a digital communicator while providing backup power to meet UK industry standards. Elmdene’s Li-Power solution is a compact, lightweight, low-voltage power supply that houses a variety of IP communicators - it provides 12- or 30-hour battery backup options in the event of a power outage. Li-Power is the first PSU of its kind using Lithium battery technology, providing a life span up to three times greater than a standard LEAD acid battery option. It performs well in conditions with unreliable mains power (power cycling) and is also environmentally friendly. Li-Power is compatible with many digital communicators, including BT Redcare and CSL. Elmdene is helping you prepare for this digital future’s exciting challenges and opportunities.
By the end of 2025, all legacy PSTN communicators require an IP upgrade to avoid the potential loss of critical service when the analogue networks are switched off

O
ver 1 million alarm systems in the UK are estimated to still use analogue networks (PSTN Lines) for alarm reporting/ communications. This means that by the end of 2025, all legacy PSTN communicators require an IP upgrade to avoid the potential loss of critical service when the analogue networks are switched off. As an installer, how many of your customers still use PSTN lines? How can you help them make this move to IP? Postponing the upgrade has been a popular choice for many. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that time is becoming scarce, and failing to make the switch promptly could have severe consequences. One of the challenges of upgrading to digital communicators is that they are typically larger than older PSTN types, and space within the panel is limited. What are your options?
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to stay ahead and be prepared. Start planning now and ensure you understand the impact of the digital upgrade on your intruder alarm systems and business.

T
he annual PSI Premier Awards campaigns have recognised innovation and the highest achievers that the industry has to offer from across a number of disciplines for many years. We are now asking for nominations for the products, services and suppliers that those working in the security industry think are the best in the market. The types of technologies we are looking for are those that are different, not “me too” systems and we want to hear about distributors that go above and beyond box-shifting. The UK security market is brimming with talent so we want to make sure we feature the best new releases of recent times and the suppliers that give the highest levels of support. The PSI Premier Awards Dinner will be held on 11th July 2024 at Luton Hoo Warren Weir following the annual PSI Golf Day.
The deadline for nominations is 10th March 2024 Once we have compiled the list of the finalists in each category we will run all of the details in PSI magazine and on our website. Readers will be able to vote for the winners following the publication of the April edition of PSI magazine, which will also carry details of the Awards Dinner special guest for 2024 and the information required by those wishing to take part in the PSI Golf Day 2024. Note: Due to the huge number of manufacturers and distributors that we deal with, we can not send out personal reminders for companies to enter. If you miss the deadline, you miss out!
