SECURITY TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATORS
March 2024 Welcome to the March issue of Benchmark magazine.
T
his issue highlights the need for a nuanced approach that caters to diverse regional requirements across Europe. To delve deeper into this critical aspect of the security industry, we will interview Spencer Marshall, HID’s director of physical access control in Europe. Gain valuable insights into the strategies and methodologies that have proven successful in tailoring security solutions to the specific needs of different European regions. In another development, Webeye announced the availability of the highly anticipated Vigileyez camera. Packed with advanced features, this device incorporates built-in false alarm filtering, drastically reducing nuisance notifications directly on the device by over 90%. With double the battery life, the Vigileyez ensures extended operational periods, offering more than double the number of cameras per panel, enabling scalability without additional hardware. Check out System Q’s KitVault enclosures. These enclosures boast robust steel construction, cooling fan kits, and custom window panels, ensuring both security and aesthetic appeal. Furthermore, KitVault’s adherence to GDPR compliance underlines its commitment to maintaining the highest standards in data protection. Circling back to Artificial Intelligence (AI), we feel there is a need for an open dialogue about
it. Have you heard of the Hiroshima Process International Code of Conduct for Advanced AI Systems? So far, there has yet to be a specific and universally recognised code of conduct for AI. However, various international organisations and groups, including the G7, have been actively discussing and working on guidelines for the ethical development and use of AI, and that’s where the Hiroshima Process came about. The International Code of Conduct for Organisations Developing Advanced AI Systems promotes safe, secure, and trustworthy AI systems worldwide. It provides voluntary guidance for organisations developing the most advanced AI systems, including generative AI systems and the most advanced foundation models. These actions should be risk-based. AI systems should also be considered for their impact on society and the environment. AI systems should also be developed and used ethically, under applicable laws, and following applicable regulations. Lastly, AI systems should be transparent and accountable. Do you have any view on how the code of conduct for AI could affect CCTV cameras and security systems? Please email me at gcaloisi@ westernbusiness.media

HID Empowering Access in Europe HID has a strong presence in businesses, schools, and government buildings where people seek convenient solutions for safeguarding physical and digital environments. The company’s array of products and services facilitates seamless access control solutions.
H
ID enables individuals to navigate, interact, and work with assurance by fostering safer, more efficient, and sustainable settings. Their diverse suite of identification and physical access control
solutions, from mobile IDs to bamboo and smart cards and readers, empowers users to regulate, gauge, and enhance trust in a location and its occupants. We talk to Spenser Marshall, director of physical access control Europe, to learn more about the company’s EU operations and what’s on the horizon. Spenser has been at HID for 17 years. He started as regional manager, then looked after the northern region. Today, he is head of Europe, managing large accounts, sales teams, and regional pre-sales support. HID supports the SME and larger Enterprise customers across Europe. Although the needs for access control are similar, different countries have specific requirements and regulations that must be adhered to. BM: What is HID’s focus today? SM: Over the past couple of years, every industry has probably gone through an element of change due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once we came out of the pandemic, we started to see some changes in how people worked. Helping intelligent buildings to become smarter is an area of growth for HID. Through

The new data hall, along with Nagoja, uses Hanwha Vision devices including XNF-8010RV, XNO8080R and XNO-C9083R cameras, which come with AI video analytics. The choice of Hanwha Vision was based on successful implementation of its cameras in past Seznam data centres, along with its proven cybersecurity credentials, AI analytics, and the ability to integrate with current infrastructure and be rolled-out in phases. With two data halls in each data centre location comprising 200 racks, operators need to maintain vigilance over a wide, potentially busy area that contains sensitive data that demands robust protection. To do so, 121 cameras were installed at Nagoja and

Park Crime Reduced by 80% with AI-enabled i-PRO Cameras The Gardone Val Trompia Police Department in Italy has chosen to install i-PRO multisensor security cameras with advanced artificial intelligence technology in order to protect a popular community park, the Mella Park in Gardone for city residents and visitors.

ella Park, located in, North Italy, between Milan and Venice,is a green space located in Gardone, a city of 112,000 people, and is a popular meeting place for residents of Gardone and nearby communities. As with many public places
around the city, Mella Park has also seen its fair share of minor criminal activity. Gardone Police Chief Commissioner Patrizio Tosoni was seeking to improve the visibility of Gardone Police officers throughout the park, and to improve the response time to any incidents that might occur. However, the few surveillance cameras they had in place did not provide them with the data they needed to improve their business significantly. “The presence of only four outdated and nearly unusable cameras in the park translated into longer investigations and a less timely response to reports for us,” Tosoni said. Working with long-time integration partner Suardi Srl, Tosoni and his department undertook a security modernisation project. Suardi President Claudio Sasso said, “The multi-sensor devices we needed had to be

talian company Novalegno began its journey in wood processing in 1982, establishing a sawmill in the picturesque Cadore area. Over the years, this company has evolved, expanding its operations and capabilities. By 1993, Novalegno ventured into producing finger-jointed semi-finished wood products, setting up a factory in Ampezzo (UD). Not content with these accomplishments, the company continued its growth, culminating in the opening a new plant in the industrial precinct of Amaro in October 2021. Today, Novalegno operates within an impressive 13,000 square meters of covered space, ensuring consistent climate control during wood processing and an additional 12,000 square meters of storage and handling space for planks. The Amaro plant specialises in producing jointed semi-finished wood products for crafting doors, frames, profiles, and windows. The need for a dependable, high-quality fire detection system became paramount

AIoT as Key Driver for Digital Transformation Telenor IoT, an IoT Connectivity specialist, points out that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), also known as AIoT or AI4IoT, are necessary for companies to stay competitive in today’s digital world. Telenor IoT and Omdia released a new report entitled “Navigating the Perfect Storm: AIoT to Emerge as the Defining Enabler of Digital Transformation.” In it, the need to extract meaningful insights from the
vast quantity of data that IoT generates is highlighted. Simply collecting data does not bring value, and human intelligence can’t process the information as efficiently as AI. With the support of AI, applications become smarter and more autonomous. “We predict AIoT will grow to become the cornerstone of digital transformation,” says Mats Lundquist, CEO at Telenor Connexion and Head of Telenor IoT. “The convergence

They did this using one of their cameras under the ice at an ice hockey rink. “An ice hockey game is covered by cameras from all angles except one. We’re all about pushing our limits and doing it in an innovative way. We want to broaden the general idea of what our cameras and systems can do, that is how the experiment came to be,” explains Carl-Axel Alm, Concept Engineer, Axis Communications. The experiment was carried out by engineers from Axis in collaboration with a film team and ice hockey players, resulting in footage that pushes the boundaries of traditional security camera technology. The discrete modular camera, usually seen in
