SECURITY TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATORS
May 2023
Dear Reader, W
elcome to the May edition of Benchmark Magazine.
During the last month and this one, the security industry has the chance to meet in person.
Taking advantage of trade shows can be an excellent opportunity to network, promote your business, and generate leads. This month we have IFSEC, at London Excel exhibition centre.
When you are at a trade show, it is crucial to have a system in place for capturing lead information. Finding qualified sales leads is gold dust and there are few tools available. You can use lead capture technology such as scanners or mobile apps to collect attendee data efficiently. Asking your potential clients about their business pain points and how they want to solve them can give you excellent insights. Take detailed notes during conversations to personalise your follow-up later - otherwise all the trade show efforts will become pointless. You might think, ‘Yes, I know this, but people are busy, and capturing their attention can be difficult.’
Do not give up. What’s important is to personalise your message. Demonstrate to your current and potential clients that you understand them and know their specific needs and interests. This will increase the likelihood of conversion. You can maximise your opportunities and make the most of meeting in person at trade shows by implementing a tailored email marketing campaign to promote your products. What’s your favourite follow up method?

Webeye launches Vigileyez
Webeye debut of Vigileyez, its brand new fully batterypowered RF video alarm system, at the Security Event in Birmingham was a resounding success.
Vigileyez provides an off-the-grid, flexible solution for rapid deployment installations, whether for a mobile or temporary security install or permanent outdoor asset and infrastructure protection.
Vigileyez features a battery-powered outdoor high definition, dual-tech RF camera and an RF 4G LTE outdoor panel. Other RF peripheral devices include an internal high-definition camera, shock/door and window sensors, a unique input/output unit, an LED keypad and a badge reader.
Designed and manufactured by Webeye in Europe in the UK. this ‘Install and Go’
camera system has no wires and can be fully programmed and re-programmed after installation, from anywhere in the World, at any time.
Chris Coughlin, Webeye’s Commercial Director, says, “The camera’s detection technology combines a traditional PIR detection (Passive InfraRed) which captures motion and uses microwave technology to act as a second confirmation of an alarm activation. This gives built-in false alarm filtering, reducing nuisance alarms by over 90% directly on the device – instead of relying on cloud services to filter the alarms.”

How to improve evacuation efficiency
Health and safety in public spaces is about sensibly managing risks to protect the individuals that regularly use or visit a building, be it a hospital, hotel, office block, shopping centre or single retail site. An important factor in any life safety initiative is the efficient evacuation of people, particularly those who are not familiar with a building’s layout, which is now made more achievable with the latest emergency lighting system from Hochiki
Emergency lighting remains an important part of any fire safety approach, especially if advanced control options are available. What is crucial today for any building is to have reliable emergency lighting
with clear signage to provide directional assistance when it’s most needed.

Hanwha Vision adopts MQTT protocol
That’s because the MQTT protocol has become the de facto standard for sharing messages across connected devices — also known as the Internet of Things (IoT). It provides the means for IoT sensors, including cameras, to communicate with each other across smart cities, smart buildings, and in different verticals, including retail, healthcare, and manufacturing.
Why MQTT?
The MQTT protocol is ideally suited for this application, because it is an extremely reliable and lightweight messaging transport protocol with minimal network bandwidth and a small
code footprint. Using a so-called ‘publishsubscribe’ approach, it queues, shares and relays messages in a highly efficient way, making it ideal for connections between devices hosted at remote locations that have resource constraints or limited network bandwidth. It is also based on open standards, so has the flexibility to work with a vast number of devices, in endless applications, including street lighting, access control, traffic monitoring, parking management, and environmental quality.
Thanks to MQTT, many Hanwha Vision networked video cameras work seamlessly with any number of other sensors you have
When the MQTT protocol (Message Queue Telemetry Transport) was invented over two decades ago, its creators perhaps didn’t realise the widespread applications it would become central to, across all industries.
