SECURITY TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATORS
October 2023 Welcome to October’s issue of Benchmark Magazine
T
his month, we are excited about announcing the winners and runner-up companies for our Benchmark Innovation Awards 2023. The categories criteria invite voters to evaluate products and solutions based on factors such as innovation, performance, usability, impact on the industry, and end-user benefits. The voters, who are you, our readers, had to take into consideration how the technology addresses current challenges in the security field and its potential to shape the industry’s future. We have identified some notable trends and themes among the winners and runners-up across the categories that can provide insights into the current priorities and developments in the security industry.
AI and Analytics Several winning and runner-up solutions incorporate AI and advanced analytics. This reflects a growing emphasis on AI-driven capabilities for better security system threat detection, pattern recognition, and predictive analytics. In the Video Management Software Innovation category, the winner is Vicon – Valerus 23.2 - AI advanced analytics search, and the runner-up is Hanwha Vision – X series AI fisheye camera. The Surveillance CCTV Innovation award category has IDIS Europe – AI Box for Surveillance (DV-1304-A) as a winner.
Cloud and SaaS Integrating SaaS and Cloud solutions in security systems shows a trend toward more flexible and scalable security platforms. Their main benefits are the possibility of having remote management and storage, enhancing accessibility and efficiency. In the Cloud and SaaS innovation award category, Texecom Cloud emerged as the winner, and Webeye’s cloud-based webeyeCMS was recognised as the runner-up, The Analytics and Software Innovation award has Eagle Eye Networks (EEN) as the winner for its video analytics and cloud-based storage, with AI TECH – A.I.-Intrusion as the runner-up.
Mobile and Remote Access The inclusion of mobile access and support for mobile devices in multiple categories underscores the importance of remote monitoring and management in modern security solutions. Mobile compatibility provides flexibility and convenience for security professionals. HID’s HID Mobile Access with Apple Wallet support has won the Visitors’ Management Innovation award. Visitor management solutions, like HID’s Mobile Access, emphasise the need for secure and convenient access control. Streamlined visitor management is crucial for organisations across various industries.

barox substantially reduces camera video loss with ‘Non-stop PoE’
barox’s new Non-stop PoE functionality, IP camera downtime when re-booting is necessary is drastically reduced in any surveillance monitoring application that requires the avoidance of live and recorded video loss. To maintain operational and cyber security performance, firmware upgrades are essential. Due to data port downtime and PoE regeneration, camera video is temporarily lost when these tasks are completed. The barox Non-stop PoE switch can be configured to supply ‘always on’ PoE power to any or all connected ports. This advanced functionality means that IP surveillance cameras can remain powered during a firmware update. The net effect is that PoE regeneration time is taken out of the equation, meaning camera downtime is substantially reduced during engineering procedures, such as firmware updates, to help maintain the highest possible levels of cyber security. Available on the barox’s 28 and 38 Series

Upgraded 350-camera system transforms security for University of Ankara IDIS Solution Suite VMS, the largest manufacturer of trusted South Korean-made video tech, has streamlined operations and transformed security for the Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBU), Türkiye.

SBU’s historic city centre location, with its night-time economy, makes it the study destination of choice for around 5,500 students annually. But with such a busy site, the university also has to deal with an increased risk of incidents, including crime and anti-social behaviour.
A 350-camera surveillance system monitored 24/7 from ASBU’s dedicated control room has been expanded several times over the years. However, the resulting mix of six different vendor brands had left the VMS struggling, with frozen live images, a hard-to-manage data burden, and difficult-to-use controls. IDIS integration partner 11S Savunma Sanayi ve Güvenlik Sistemleri was asked to devise the best upgrade route. In an on-site proof of concept demonstration, the company showed how IDIS’s VMS, IDIS Solution Suite (ISS Expert) could quickly register all the mixand-match cameras and devices, including recorders and a 3 3 video wall.

mplementing AI video surveillance when you have a small to medium project might feel a bit like overkill. We know that AI-powered video analytics can generate real-time alerts and notifications, based on predefined rules or anomalies. And it’s proven that this can save significant time and prevent pointless alarms. Using AI video as a proactive tool not only helps to minimise response times, it increases the chances of preventing losses and damage in the first place. Most users won’t want to invest in expensive software or enterprise-level multiple-channel NVRs – so if your requirements are for smaller installs – such as retailers, hospitality venues, schools,
offices handling sensitive data, or businesses that want extra protection for high-risk zones such as entrances, and high-value goods areas – then IDIS’ AI Box for surveillance is the answer. The practical box fills the gap in the market for entry-level to medium sized applications by providing a scalable four-channel option at a fraction of the price of other modes of AI, making it easier to harness the power of deep learning analytics. While the number of camera inputs for each box is four, this AI Box is scalable, license-free and comes pre-installed with the IDIS Deep Learning Engine that delivers up to 98% accuracy. It’s ideal for multi-branch retailers and small-sized businesses that want to strengthen security, and eliminate the hassle of false alarms. And for mediumsized applications users can scale by adding more boxes to encompass up to 32-channels. As with other AI-powered video surveillance systems, the DV-1304-A provides advanced analytics features, such as object, loitering, intrusion, and face detection, as

ndeed, Smart Video Search and Google have similarities. Both are built to perform efficient and accurate searches. While Google focuses on searching the vast expanse of the internet to deliver personalised results, Eagle Eye’s Smart Video Search specialises in searching through video footage to recognise objects, people and vehicles. Both platforms are user-friendly and aim to provide users with relevant results quickly and with minimal effort. However, while there are similarities between Smart Video Search and Google’s search engine, they serve different purposes and target different markets. Smart Video Search is a specialised tool for searching
and analysing video footage in the context of video surveillance and security applications. The Smart Video Search feature, introduced in 2022, is a finalist at the Benchmark Innovation Awards 2023 for the Analytics and Software category. Eagle Eye’s Smart Video Search uses artificial intelligence to make searching for a video as simple as searching for a video on the web. By simply typing in terms like “man with red shirt”, “red Vauxhall car”, or “woman carrying a backpack”, customers can search across all the cameras at all locations to find exactly the video they are looking for and can share video clips as quickly as they can find them. Smart Video Search helps business owners and security directors enhance security and safety measures. It can quickly identify and alert users about potential security threats or suspicious activities. The results of any search can be downloaded and shared straight away. Advanced video analytics enable quick and precise searches within video footage. This significantly reduces the time and effort required for manual video review.
