OPEN DISCUSSIONS

Much of the focus of this edition is on The Security Event and what visitors and exhibitors got up to during the threeday show. This, and other gatherings, demonstrate the value of face-to-face interactions in the sector

Due to a last-minute unexpected seven-day break courtesy of the NHS, I wasn’t able to attend The Security Event this year. It was the first one I’ve missed and by all accounts it was a great show (check out the photos in this edition and our latest podcast for a couple of interviews) and the signs are there that TSE is now very much the number one event in the security sector and is reportedly already 85% sold out. It was the biggest, but it wasn’t the only event to be held recently.

A few weeks after TSE, Paxton’s Tech Tour continued its long trek around the UK and Ireland with a stop at Peterborough. Being just down the road from me, and well into my recovery, I was able to make that one and it was quite an eye opener on the value of smaller, more focused presentations as well as the international juggernaut at the NEC.

Sure, at TSE there was a real buzz going around and lots of people in attendance (the organisers stated afterwards that there was a 28% increase in visitors) meaning that if exhibitors had done their homework and offered a welcoming visage for installers, they would be busy. However, it’s a different kind of interaction that you get at the big shows compared to the more intimate approach.

At the Tech Talk I attended, installers were encouraged to interact throughout the presentations, meaning that often the speaker would pause while a few engineers from different companies would talk over a specific topic and debate problems they have experienced and solved. This idea sharing and open discussion led to a number of interesting conclusions that not just those in attendance, but also the representatives from Paxton, garnered valuable information that could be taken forward to tackle an issue.

This type of discussion doesn’t usually happen at the big shows (it’s more one-to-one) so while we of course recommend that you visit TSE every year, don’t forget the smaller events too, especially if you value the knowledge of your peers. Hope to see you all at Security Matters Live in Coventry this month for more of the same.

LOOKING GOOD

You don’t need to be the most eagle-eyed reader to notice that PSi has recently had a facelift with a new design and an upgrade in paper quality. The May edition was the first to show off the new look and we’ve had a lot of positive comments about it. We know that the security industry is often opposed to change, but sometimes you just need to freshen things up after looking the same for 25 years! Thanks for all of your positive reactions.

Survey reveals crime fears and experiences

ALTHOUGH THE Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that crime rates dropped by 10% in 2023, the National Crime & Community Survey conducted by Neighbourhood Watch and SimpliSafe Home Security found that 37% of the 28,909 British people

surveyed experienced a crime in the last year, with 63% of those having experienced antisocial behaviour, followed by physical assault (25%).

58% of people who witnessed a crime over the past twelve months did not report it, with the main reason being they didn’t believe anything would be done – this behaviour was the most common among those from Birmingham (10%).

When looking at the data regionally, Londoners experienced the highest level of crime over the past twelve months (46%), with the North East not too far behind (44%). The South West experienced the least crime (71%), which ties with people in that region feeling the safest (81%). Those in the West Midlands, however, feel the most unsafe (37%).

of Neighbourhood Watch Network: “It is clear from the findings of our survey that we must continue to prioritise sharing resources and raising awareness of antisocial behaviour, burglary and cybercrime. A staggering 46% of people didn’t report a crime over the past twelve months according to the National Crime & Community Survey and 5% of those said it was because they were too scared to do so, so it’s important to help empower people to take action to protect themselves and prevent these crimes from impacting them and their communities. Working collaboratively with other organisations will be essential to help reduce crimes such as ASB in communities and increase feelings of safety and community wellbeing.”

recognition of a milestone and an exciting beginning to fulfilling careers with Chubb.”

The graduates will now continue their journey at Chubb in a range of full-time positions, where they will be given the opportunity to grow and progress in their careers in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Reliance High-Tech has once again achieved the ‘Standards Exceeded’ rating in its annual NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) assessment.

Alex Buckingham, information security manager at Reliance HighTech said: “Cyber threats are constantly evolving, so we need to have our finger on the pulse in terms of how we protect our customers.”

Ajax Systems has joined the Fire Industry Association (FIA). Paul Pope of Ajax Systems and board member at the FIA said: “Our partnership with the FIA is not just about mutual benefit; it signifies a shared commitment to enriching the fire safety community with technology and knowledge.”

Cyber code of practice updated

THE BRITISH Security Industry Association (BSIA) has updated its manufacturers’ code of practice that recommends on the design, testing and manufacture of safety and security products with a cyber exposure, whilst aligning with major new UK legislation.

Manufacturers of safety and security systems Cybersecurity code of practice, is based on international industry best practice regarding cybersecurity and refers to recognised guidance and standards applied to safety and security systems. Crucially, it aligns with UK’s consumer connectable product security regime, the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act: 2022, which came into effect this week for Relevant Connectable Products. A previous iteration of this code of practice was released 2021 already encompassing many of the key requirements of the Act and in many aspects going beyond them.

The code of practice, which underpins the BSIA manufacturers cyber assurance registration scheme, will assist in providing confidence throughout the supply chain promoting secure connection of products and services. Its aim is to deliver client assurance regarding connected solutions, assisting the supply chain in their duty of care to other network users, particularly with respect to protecting the integrity of existing cybersecurity

countermeasures or the implementation of such countermeasures in new solutions.

Graham Evans, Technical Officer, BSIA, said: ‘We are pleased to announce the release of our updated issue of the Manufacturers of safety and security systems Cybersecurity code of practice, incorporating the relevant references to the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act: 2022.

“We are delighted to see the requirements in the Act are aligned to our code of practice and once again demonstrates the forward thinking of our members to ensure their products and services keep pace with the latest security standards and legislation.”

Glenn Foot, Chairman, BSIA Cybersecurity Product Assurance Group (CySPAG), said: “The PSTI Act is a welcome addition to the world of cybersecurity, but it must be noted that it only covers the basics, and there are likely to be additional requirements in the future.

“Cyber responsible manufacturers should be striving to exceed these minimum requirements in order to give their customers the highest level of confidence in relation to cyber security. To support manufacturers in exceeding the PSTI requirements, the CySPAG scheme provides guidance on best practices and recognition for manufacturers for going beyond the bare minimum for cyber security.”

The XNP-C9310R is a 4K, 31x Zoom IP67, IK10, & NEMA4X rated PTZ network dome. It has high sensitivity and long-range infrared support for day / night performance, with advanced AI management and subject detection capabilities.

GETTING STARTED

The camera is not supplied with a mounting bracket so this must be purchased separately. A range including Hanging, Ceiling, Wall, Pole, Parapet and Corner mounts are available. The dome’s mounting arrangement uses a sprung three point insert and rotate style of fixing with a safety loop attachment point. Three M6 securing holes with 64mm (2.5”) centres in the top can be used for temporary fixings for workshop setup and configuration if required.

The only connection to the dome is its RJ45 HPoE port and this has a protective grommet and securing clip to hold it in place.

The supplied HPoE injector can supply up to 83W and supports up to 1Gb/s data. An SFP fibre data port socket is included for fibre network use. The supplied lead was a Euro style to C13 connector so a UK mains plug or lead change may be required.

The camera is given an operating temperature range of -55°C to +55°C and has dimensions of 296(h) x 188(Ø) mm without mounting bracket.

OPERATION

The dome has DHCP set by default or will use 192.168.1.100. It can be discovered

PERFORMANCE

The camera has a range of detection capabilities including Shock, Motion, Tampering and Fog using conventional techniques and enhanced AI analytics that include Object detection for Persons, Faces, License plates, or Vehicles, with differentiation of Car, Bus, Truck, Motorcycle and Bicycle being individually selectable. Detection of even partially obscured people was good and the subject tracking function for person or vehicle performed well.

In addition to a lens heater function for adverse weather conditions, the dome also supports a “spin-dry” feature that quickly rotates the dome three times to help remove any surface water.

The camera lens looks through a curved bowl section but does not appear to suffer any limiting optical effects.

Preset position calls can be stored with focus values or using Wise auto focus, the former gives very rapid access to

important scenes within 1 second without auto-focus delays. Areas of the screen can be selected by mouse for quick PTZ calls.

The 120dB dynamic range gives a good level of contrast and even using the wide dynamic feature still shows good black levels unlike some other systems that have a grey appearance.

Night-time performance is impressive with its 1/1.8” sensor providing a high sensitivity noisereduced image allowing colour imaging down to low light levels and good infrared performance where no suitable artificial light sources are available. The twin highintensity IR sources are mounted either side of the lens and are given a stated 250mtr range. The infrared illumination was evident on targets at 250 metres from the camera. By default, the camera is set to a frame rate of 25ips. Reducing this rate can further improve the low-light performance although it will increase the likelihood of motion blur.

CONCLUSION

A feature-rich PTZ dome with straightforward configuration and operation. Excellent performance and network security features.

Last month, the security industry met at the NEC for The Security Event. Here’s a selection of some of the posts from the three-day show. @psimagazine

EDITOR’S CHOICE

The security industry is busy and complex, so it’s easy to miss new products and services as they get lost in day-to-day activities. Here are a few recent launches that caught our eye.

Hybrid control panel solves PSTN issues

THE EURO 76 from Pyronix is a hybrid control panel, offering 76 zones alongside monitoring through PSTN, GSM, and IP methods of communication. Designed to cater to diverse security requirements, it provides flexible options for both large and small installations, ensuring suitability for Grade 2 and 3 setups.

Network and cable tester is upgraded

THE TREND Networks

SignalTEK 10G network throughput tester and cable qualifier has undergone a series of enhancements, introducing a suite of features.

The SignalTEK 10G now offers users more intuitive options with the new Basic Operation mode. With the goal of streamlining cable and network qualification testing, this option is tailored to accommodate both novice

and experienced users, simply requiring a choice between copper and fibre and the speed the user wishes to qualify, ranging from 10Mbps to 10Gbps for copper (including 2.5 and 5Gbps Multigig), and 1Gb or 10Gb for fibre.

Several SFP updates have also been included in the recent enhancements. Streamlining fibre testing for network technicians, the unit now supports data transmission testing at 1G and 10G using a single 10G SFP+ module, removing the need for separate SFP modules for varying fibre speeds. trend-networks.com

Collaboration leads to alarm launch

SALUS PROTECT

The EURO 76 can be programmed via keypad or through the InSite desktop application, offering installers a smooth menu navigation for different setup options. The panel also tackles the challenges arising from the PSTN switch-off by integrating with IP-based alternatives such as GPRS, Wi-Fi, and LAN modules, solving any PSTN-related issues. pyronix.com

Upgrade for automatic remote

A free-of-charge software upgrade to the Eaton SecureConnect Application for its i-on panel security system range means that installers can substitute onsite maintenance visits with an automatic remote service that delivers service reports directly into their email inbox or that of their customers. Installers can

also choose to provide their customers with the added value of more frequent online reports, if they wish.

Configuration is managed via the Eaton SecureConnect Web portal, enabling installers to select when the next service will occur, then leave the automated scheduler to do the rest by setting up monthly or bi-annual automatic remote service. All completed reports are loaded to the Web portal and can utilise a traffic light classification for prioritisation. eaton.com

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BIG SHOW

At The Security E vent we demonstrated how digital credentials are now available in both Apple and Google Wallet to offer touchless and fast entry. But simply gaining entry and exit to buildings is just part of the access control story today. When integrated with a whole range of other third-party building applications like turnstiles, lifts, lockers, garage doors, printers and vending machines, a mobile device becomes a compelling tool for everyone to get the most out of the facilities they work and visit. Our stand at The Security Event was designed to show this working in practice and it was very well received.

Nick Honess – i-PRO

The show felt as busy as ever and it was enjoyable for me personally to catch up with so many old friends, work colleagues and clients.

i-PRO had a presence on the Genetec stand so I had a dual role of running demos of i-PRO Active Guard and our AI cameras within Genetec Security Center and having many meetings with our distribution partners, key clients and technology partners at their stands within the show.

My suggestion for improvement would be to have the event in a bigger hall. It felt very cramped at times particularly on day one and day two, but overall – an enjoyable three days and it was good to see what felt like the entire industry descending on the NEC and Birmingham for a few days.

Didn’t make it to The Security Event this year? Our panel of experts give you a breakdown of the best bits

Francesca Boeris – Comelit-PAC

The highlight of The Security Event in 2024 for us was the vibrant exchange of ideas and insights that characterised the show, creating invaluable connections and paving the way for new opportunities within our sector.

One of the notable moments was the buzz surrounding the latest advancements in security and wireless fire safety technology, together with the prospect of embracing new technologies to open up simple installations for all building types.

A highlight was the chance to engage with industry experts and thought leaders on key topics and trends. Discussions such as cybersecurity, changing legislation, AI-driven analytics, and the rise of smart cities sparked lively debates and provided valuable insights into the evolving nature of security threats and challenges.

Of particular significance was the focus on integration, as attendees recognised the importance of seamless interoperability between different security and fire safety systems. The Forum enabled us to answer critical

questions on the relationship between video surveillance and access control together with cloud, onsite and hybrid architecture. All paving the way to future-proof security.

Making our debut in panel discussions added to our experience. Notable moments included sharing ways to empower women in the industry, and it was great to share the stage with some incredible women shining a light on inclusion and diversity in our sector.

What stood out was the efforts of organisations such as Skills for Security, working so hard to address key issues such as the skills shortage and introduce new talent to our industry. Cementing our partnership was a chance to align our goals for promoting professional development.

John Lutz Boorman – Hanwha Vision

In an industry where acronyms abound, it was notable that one in particular was on everyone’s lips at this year’s Security Event: AI.

The potential of AI has long been acknowledged and at Hanwha Vision we embraced the technology very early on. For me, this year’s Security Event demonstrated just how far AI has developed, and it confirmed the considerable interest now shown in it.

Indeed, recent research by Hanwha Vision revealed that organisations are actively exploring how AI-enabled video can provide the insights needed to gain operational efficiencies. In fact, nearly twice the number of users we spoke to intend to turn to video cameras with AI rather than automation and robotics to meet their organisations’ challenges.

One reason behind this appetite for AI is that the technology offers proven benefits in video. Users are already calling on AI - in particular ‘at the edge’,

where it is highly efficient - to reduce false alarms, improve image quality, and deliver meaningful insights into their operations. These insights allow betterinformed decision-making and the ability to mitigate real risks.

While many broader business applications for AI are still in development, it’s clear that AI in video is already being firmly established and delivering real insights and added value.

Adrian Mealing – Texecom

At The Security Event 2024, the predominant theme across the security industry was the evolution and integration of converged technologies and cloud solutions aimed at developing a comprehensive security ecosystem. This trend was evident in the collaborative initiatives displayed by sectors specialising in CCTV, access control, and intruder detection. These sectors demonstrated a unified strategy to offer complete solutions tailored to the needs of professional security installers and their clients, rather than merely promoting individual product lines.

This approach is epitomised by Texecom’s unveiling of the SmartCom Pro communicator. This new device

Joel

represents an advancement in security communication technology. Designed to be compatible with any manufacturer’s panel, the SmartCom Pro facilitates the use of cloud-based services across different types of intruder detection hardware. This interoperability underscores the industry’s move towards systems that can seamlessly connect and communicate, enhancing functionality and user experience without being constrained by specific hardware brands.

The emphasis at the event was clearly on fostering a collaborative environment where technologies from different domains are interconnected, creating robust and versatile security systems. This reflects a shift from isolated

– Amthal Fire & Security

At The Security Event 2024, we were truly inspired by the innovative strides made by manufacturers and suppliers in our industry. The emphasis on cloudbased software and remote support systems showcased the forwardthinking direction, promising exciting possibilities for the future.

One of the highlights was witnessing the development of integrated technology across fire and security products, particularly the emergence of cloud-based and SaaS solutions.

The prevalence of SaaS solutions across both fire and security not only enhances transparency and efficiency but allows for remote support, enabling us to provide our customers with a dedicated service from anywhere, at any time.

These offer instant visibility and support, aligning perfectly with the evolving needs of our customers in a hybrid working environment. We’re eagerly anticipating the release of new products in the coming months and excited to bring them into our service offerings, further enhancing our ability to meet and exceed customer expectations.

From a technological perspective, the advancements in door entry and access control systems, particularly those integrated with GSM sim cards, caught our attention. The shift towards mobile app-based management offers unparalleled convenience and flexibility, aligning perfectly with the modern lifestyle.

On a personal note, it provided a valuable opportunity for industry professionals to come together, share insights, forge new connections, and reaffirm the importance of collaboration in driving innovation. Building relationships and exchanging ideas reinforced our commitment to total protection and guaranteed compliance, picking up on the available seminars.

As my first event, I found great value in networking and connecting with peers in the industry. Being just a year into my career in the fire safety and security industry, as a business focused on concept to ongoing support, having a robust network of manufacturers is crucial.

Thank you to The Security Event for your insight and learning. Looking forward to next year already!

products to integrated solutions that address broader security challenges and offer enhanced operational efficiencies. The industry’s trajectory towards these integrated systems indicates a significant transformation in how security solutions are developed, deployed, and managed, aiming for greater scalability and adaptability in response to evolving security needs.

Dave Tate – Ajax Systems

This was the best-attended event I have witnessed in over 20 years, and I am sure that Ajax Systems UK will benefit greatly from the discussions we had. Great organisation, great attendance, now for great results.

The highlight of The Security Event in 2024 was undoubtedly the unveiling of new technologies aimed at moving the security industry forward. From AI-powered surveillance systems to advanced access control solutions, exhibitors showcased innovations designed to enhance safety and efficiency across various sectors.

Keynote presentations and panel discussions delved into emerging trends and challenges shaping the future of security, sparking valuable conversations among industry professionals.

Overall, the event served as a dynamic platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, solidifying its reputation as a premier event in the security domain.

Ric Martin – Pinnacle Systems

One overarching theme stole the spotlight: centralisation. It was great to be part of and witness firsthand the discussions surrounding this pivotal topic.

Discussions we were involved with highlighted the potential to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and bolster overall security effectiveness. In a world where security must do more than offer protection, it can ensure smarter and more efficient ways that adapt to evolving threats.

To ensure the positive impact is felt, relies on the industry’s commitment to innovation and collaboration. It is about really listening to customer requirements and partnering with them to create the bespoke solution. And continuing

the conversation following installation to enable real-time updates from anywhere, at any time.

This is something I believe will be more than a passing trend, but acts as a strategic imperative driving the future of security. Just like the fast track to smart technology evolving into embracing artificial intelligence and machine learning, it will form a core part of our sector offering.

The event also provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore opportunities for partnership and collaboration.

Richard Joslin – PACOM Systems

Two tech trends were hard to ignore at The Security Event this year, and both have developed rapidly in the twelve months since the industry last met in Birmingham.

One relates to using analytics to unearth new insights from security systems. The growing reliance on analytics is why 3xLOGIC chose the event to debut its edge-based deep learning analytics cameras.

Separately, the cloud continued to dominate conversations at The Security Event. That’s why PACOM chose the show to preview VIGIL CORE, its cloudbased platform designed to address the pressing challenge of how users can

best visualise, manage, and control an integrated security system.

Technological developments like these are transforming our industry and were exciting to see at this year’s event. I look forward to 2025!

Jamie Barnfield – IDIS Europe

It’s often ‘simple’ things that get most interest – especially when integrators come across security kit that they can see will be immediately useful for a current project, or where they see strong potential for demand across range of applications.

At TSE, we saw that with our new video intercoms. It is a good example of seemingly mature tech that has maybe been taken for granted, but that is becoming increasingly popular in both commercial and residential applications. With more people living in apartments, mixed-use developments, and gated communities – and with the rise of e-commerce deliveries – there is a growing need to visually check visitors and grant or deny access, from any

location. In the commercial sector, there will always be a need to allow visitors in efficiently, while protecting entrances. And organisations have become more aware of the need to provide positive, frictionless visitor experiences, to make first impressions count.

Innovations at TSE included video intercoms that are less siloed that can be easily integrated into access control and electronic magnetic door locks. This allows more effective remote management of entry points, especially when combined with mobile apps. Add in sharper image capture which covers the wider foreground and background scene around the entrance, and recording of video and two-way audio, and customers have a comprehensive

Maxime Chila –Resideo

The Security Event is a great way concentrating a lot of innovation, industry learning and networking into just a few days. AI is never far from the news headlines, so it was not surprising that it was a dominant topic of discussion. AI is an evolving technology that in the future could offer significant opportunities to enhance the capabilities of professional installers, monitoring stations, and the consumer experience. However, at this early development stage, its use needs to be carefully considered and the risk appropriately managed at an industry level.

In terms of products that will have an impact on the industry, I may be biased but I was delighted to showcase our new ProSeries Security and Life Safety platform. For installers, it offers business efficiency through its modular design, straightforward installation and reliability. And for homeowners, it gives the opportunity to tailor what they buy to suit their needs and lifestyle as they change over time.

evidence trail.

Our new edge AI cameras got visitors excited too as they’ve been waiting to deploy them as easy add-ons for existing customers and to target new opportunities. Yet it’s sometimes a neat, robust of piece of kit with new features that solves specific customer challenges that catches integrators’ attention at a busy show like TSE.

HOW TO TACKLE LATE PAYMENTS

Businesses across all sectors are under pressure. One only has to look at the number of failures in the fire and security industry to know this to be the case. It is an established fact that companies often become insolvent not because they are inherently bad businesses, but simply because they run out of cash. Poor cashflow management, compounded by bad debts and slow paying customers, are typically to blame.

But while it is tempting to lay the blame wholly on late payment, businesses must shoulder some of the responsibility for their own poor credit management practices. Put another way, best practice credit management can limit the amount to

which a business finds itself financially vulnerable.

So how can bad debts be avoided, and payments accelerated? According to Philip King, former Small Business Commissioner and advisor to PKF Littlejohn Advisory, much can be achieved by getting back to basics and doing the basics well. Here are his top tips:

KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER

First and foremost, even the most basic checks can avoid potential embarrassment later. Know your customer (KYC) should be the mantra of every director, every sales executive, and every individual in your credit team. How well do you know the company you

are dealing with? What is their Company Registration Number? Do they even have one? What is their legal status? Are they a limited company? A Partnership? A PLC? LLP? All such information is

you a better steer on their financial viability. Google Search can also show if the warehouse they say they own, even exists!

Rules of engagement

Once a new customer is being onboarded, the terms and conditions you agree are absolutely critical. They should be documented with explicit payment terms.

The concept of ‘30 days’ – a particular favourite among politicians and the media for denoting best practice – can still mean different things to different people. Is that 30-days from date of invoice, receipt of invoice, or end of month, for example? This needs to be crystal clear or else 30 can so easily become 50 or more.

When you are invoicing, make sure you understand their payment and invoice approval process and whether, for example, a purchase order is required

and what other specific information may be needed. Make sure the amount you are invoicing is also correct in terms of what has been agreed; even a penny difference can cause the payment process to grind to a halt!

CUSTOMER INTERACTION

In terms of how you interact with your customers, build a strong relationship with key people in the company; they could be invaluable when you need to chase payment ahead of other suppliers. At your end, keep the ledger clean and have absolute clarity about what invoices are outstanding. Confusion is a great obstacle to payment and can easily be exploited by those who are seeking to delay paying what they owe. Making contact in advance of the due date to ensure the invoice has been received and is correct will also reduce the likelihood of a payment

subsequently being held in dispute. Keep large totals separate from smaller ones; there is nothing to be gained for having a £10,000 invoice comprising £9,800 for the product and £200 for the delivery held up because the delivery charge is being disputed.

Even if you have clear lines of communication with the customers, always follow up on the day the invoice is due; never wait and hope for the best.

SEEK ADVICE EARLY

“Such advice should not come as a surprise, but in my 40 years in credit management, it still amazes me how businesses are quick to blame everyone else when they’ve ignored many of the fundamentals themselves,” concludes Philip King. “Getting back to basics may not always be successful, but like winning the lottery, you first have to buy a ticket.”

IN TERMS OF HOW YOU INTERACT WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS, BUILD A STRONG RELATIONSHIP WITH KEY PEOPLE IN THE COMPANY; THEY COULD BE INVALUABLE WHEN YOU NEED TO CHASE PAYMENT AHEAD OF OTHER SUPPLIERS.

PAXTON GOES ON TOUR!

By the time you read this, Paxton’s security roadshow, the Paxton Tech Tour 2024, will be in full swing. PSI attended an event to see first-hand what was on the agenda and what was in store for visiting installers.

Paxton’s free-to-attend Tech Tour 2024 has already been running at venues around the UK and Ireland from April, finishing up in Brighton, Durham, and Enfield in early July. The events were created to offer security installation professionals a chance to develop knowledge and explore business opportunities, but how do they do that?

PSI joined the Peterborough event to find out what installers can look forward to when they attend their nearest session.

WELCOME

The event began (following bacon rolls and coffee) with a welcome introduction from Liam Cox, Eastern Regional Sales Manager at Paxton, who explained that the purpose of the session would be to learn something and to have some fun with the latest systems. This was achieved by having a short presentation on various

technologies, including Net2, Entry, PaxLock and Paxton10, followed by hands-on time with the equipment. The whole event was kept quite informal with engagement between the presenters and attendees encouraged at all times.

Prior to the presentations starting in full, attendees were asked to reveal what they would ideally like to gain from the Tech Tour. Answers included a better understanding of the encryption of the systems, the availability of an app for Entry, the customer loyalty programme Paxton Rewards, and what the benefits of Paxton10 are for the installer and the customer.

Once the session was underway, Liam was supported by Steve Harris, Field Training Engineer, and Mike Boughey, Midland’s Regional Sales Manager, who each took turns in explaining various aspects of each of the products.

THE FIRST PRODUCT IN THE SPOTLIGHT WAS NET2, WHICH MIKE EXPLAINED WAS VERY POPULAR WITH THOSE WANTING AND INSTALLING NETWORKED ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS.

NET2

The first product in the spotlight was Net2, which Mike explained was very popular with those wanting and installing networked access control systems. An early question from the floor raised the

subject of biometrics, asking why Paxton didn’t have a reader capable of dealing with fingerprints etc. Mike said that proximity was still considered as the “go-to” method for access control so that was where Paxton focused their attention, however with Net2 SDK available to authorised partners, other companies that specialise in biometrics can provide integrations between their systems and Net2.

Other benefits of Net2 were discussed including camera integration and active directory integration. Features of the technology that were not so well known with attendees were the ability to integrate Net2 with intruder alarm panels to prevent people from entering a building if an alarm is armed, and how the system can help with the safe evacuation of a building, and roll call in the event of a fire alarm activation. It was also revealed that Net2 can play a major role in securing a site in the event of a lockdown.

ENTRY

The second technology in focus was the video door entry system, Entry. This works as a standalone solution or alongside Net2 as well as Paxton10 to combine door entry with access control.

The presenters explained the various panel options and how to configure the units with just a couple of steps required to get the system up and running. This was followed by similar information on how to set up the internal monitor for allowing or denying access and how video,

be it from the external Entry panel or an integrated third-party camera, can improve security for the customer.

The installers attending the event were then given a sneak preview of an upcoming Paxton release – the Paxton Entry app, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) provision that will enable the user to use

a mobile device rather than, or in addition to, a monitor to manage visitors and open doors. At the time of the event the launch date for the Paxton Entry app was still to be confirmed.

OTHER TECHNOLOGIES

Following the hands-on session for Entry (and a swift second coffee), the final two presentations of the event looked at PaxLock and its use of the Net2Air Bridge, and also Paxton10, the single platform for video management and access control for multiple sites.

It was the practical session that allowed the installers to see just how versatile and easy Paxton10 was for the user to customise the software to gain maximum benefit from the dashboard and reporting features.

The event finished with a competition in which one lucky installer picked up the top prize of an Entry starter kit.

All in all, the three hours spent in the company of the Paxton experts was considered most useful by the installers in attendance. Some ideas were exchanged that may help provide food for thought for both sides going forward and may even result in further product enhancements in the future.

THE EVENT FINISHED WITH A COMPETITION IN WHICH ONE LUCKY INSTALLER PICKED UP THE TOP PRIZE OF AN ENTRY STARTER KIT.

There’s still time to sign up for the Paxton Tech Tour 2024. Find your nearest event here:

THE NEXT BIG THING?

John Lutz Boorman of Hanwha Vision Europe explains why the next big job in security is the chief AI officer

There is much excitement around the potential of AI to transform entire industries, from streamlining operations to creating new revenue streams. Indeed, as research from Hanwha Vision reveals, AI is a top investment priority for leaders to drive innovation, increase profitability and improve security.

Yet these benefits can only be realised if there is sufficient trust in the AI being used and the insights it delivers - among people, who give consent for their data to be collected and analysed, and employees who will act on AI’s results and recommendations. What’s more, some employees may also worry that AI could take their jobs, and so consequently disengage with AI implementation.

Unlocking AI’s operational efficiencies and revenue potential can create momentum across your workforce, which will prove critical for AI’s long-term success

across all industries. That is why many organisations are increasingly looking to appoint a senior figure to champion the responsible use of AI and, ultimately, see the company-wide view of how AI can augment the workforce.

INTRODUCING THE CHIEF AI OFFICER

Research shows that more than one in five (21%) organisations are planning to hire a chief AI officer for their leadership team. The officer’s remit is anticipated to expand far beyond IT to encompass all uses of AI in the company.

Security leaders are increasingly partnering with their IT and operations counterparts as video security systems become increasingly complex, move to the cloud, and deliver added value through AI and analytics. Therefore, the chief AI officer is expected to take an active,

interested role in the adoption and use of AI-enabled video across the organisation.

INTEREST IN AI-ENABLED VIDEO

AI-enabled video will be particularly attractive to the chief AI officer because of the business value, beyond security, that it promises. Retail, manufacturing, and smart city leaders recently surveyed by Hanwha Vision expressed eagerness to use AI-enabled video to support wider operations such as health and safety, maintenance and staffing schedules, optimisation of store layouts, city planning and optimised traffic flow.

In fact, AI-enabled video is now deemed a major asset in overcoming common business hurdles such as finding new efficiencies, cost control and managing

John Lutz Boorman

complicated supply chains, with nearly one-third (31%) of leaders backing it, according to Hanwha Vision’s research. For comparison, this is almost double the number (17%) of leaders turning to automation and robotics to address their business needs.

A UNIQUE SKILL SET

A chief AI officer will possess unique skills, including the ability to align AI with business goals, create use cases, engage stakeholders with AI plans, ensure AI use complies with local and global legislation, and the technical knowledge needed to invest in and deploy AI solutions. As the most senior person responsible for governing the use of AI, they will drive the training required to help people work alongside and oversee AI. Crucially, they will also be responsible for communicating with stakeholders about AI’s use of data and the protections put in place to keep it secure.

BALANCING USE AND IDENTIFYING RELIABLE PARTNERS

Of course, the chief AI officer will be highly AI and data literate and will stay abreast of new AI developments to assess how

AI-ENABLED VIDEO IS NOW DEEMED A MAJOR ASSET IN OVERCOMING COMMON BUSINESS HURDLES

their strategy impacts the use of AI in their organisation. They must also balance the benefits and risks of AI and be able to communicate this to stakeholders. They will know which manufacturers to work with based on their attitude to responsible use, ethical manufacture, and commitment to cybersecurity. A strong business acumen will also allow chief AI officers to evaluate and demonstrate AI’s return on investment (ROI). Research shows that for every $1.00 (US) invested in AI across companies, an average of $3.50 is returned. This impressive ROI is the result of greater insights, productivity gains, and automated workflows.

SECURITY’S ALLY

As AI becomes ever more prevalent, chief AI officers will no doubt join your customer companies in the coming years. This individual will prove invaluable, as they will bring deep AI and business expertise to the use of AI, including video. In turn, they will help businesses extract

greater value from the data collected by security systems.

Furthermore, as the regulatory environment shifts, the chief AI officer will be able to guide their organisations as they navigate the introduction of new laws around the use of AI, such as the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), which passed into law in March 2024 and comes into effect later in the year.

By spotting patterns, identifying trends and alerting managers to the situations that deserve their attention, AI and the officer responsible for its use will transform how your customers do business.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH

Jamie Allam of Amthal Group reflects on progress so far in 2024 and anticipating future growth

As we reach the halfway point of 2024, we should reflect on the significant developments and emerging trends for installers, that are shaping the security and fire safety sector.

From economic rebounds to the latest legislation and advances in technology, the security and fire safety industry continues to evolve rapidly, presenting both challenges and opportunities.

Here, Jamie Allam, CEO Amthal Group Companies, takes us through the first six months of 2024 and what lies ahead for our industry, especially for those willing to capitalise on the new technology and collaborative partnerships available:

The UK’s monthly GDP numbers have been on a wild ride over the past year. But fresh data shows that the economy grew by 0.1% in February as widely expected. Businesses across various sectors responded by increasing investments in

technology, infrastructure, and within this, fire safety measures and security.

Notably, the retail sector experienced heightened investment in advanced security systems to address the significant rise of theft and shoplifting, including employee theft.

This was initiated with the launch of Project Pegasus in September 2023 by high-street stalwarts and led to an investment trend, especially in CCTV and data analytics that has underscored the importance of robust security measures. In April 2024, was again referred by Government, to the launch of the “fighting retail campaign” to build on the progress of the Retail Crime Action Plan.

In response, our sector has had to be proactive with its focus on recruitment, skills and embracing smart technology to meet the needs of such discerning customers. Whilst installers may see

this as a challenge, the focus on simple opportunities for integration is becoming more clear to see.

EMBRACING OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH

To maximise, collectively the fire safety security sector needs to look forward to continued growth in the second half of 2024 and bring with it the focus on recruitment, skills, and embracing smart technology to meet the needs of discerning customers.

Recruitment and skills development: As the demand for advanced fire safety and security solutions continues to grow across sectors, there is a pressing need for skilled professionals who can design, install, maintain and monitor bespoke systems.

Whilst the skills shortage is well documented, by investing in recruitment and skills development programs, businesses like Amthal are looking to ensure we can recruit from outside the industry. This is instead focussing on individuals with the right positive attitude, with the skills taught and

cloud-based CCTV to allow end users remote opportunities for maintenance and monitoring. Especially relevant to Facility Managers who are budget, time and resource-stretched and yet seeking enterprise solutions to manage new hybrid work environments and building management systems.

Security and safety: Security and safety have often been considered as a single subject, but are increasingly being recognised as separate cases: security relating to intentional acts, and safety surrounding unintentional dangers and incidents that could harm people, property, and the environment.

One trend that will continue throughout the year is the use of video surveillance and analytics in safety use cases. Video surveillance, environmental sensors, and analytics are increasingly used by authorities to give early warning of potential climate-related disasters

More powerful video analytics can also support risk management and regulatory compliance by, for example, automatically monitoring the wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and assisting with post-incident investigations.

Latest legislation: Whilst the Fire Safety Act and Building Safety Act may seem like old news to the industry, there is still much to adopt to ensure compliance for Responsible Persons, alongside building, site and security managers, especially in high-rise buildings. This is especially pertinent to the demand for seamless, simple to install and increasingly, wireless life safety solutions.

We are also seeing the valiant efforts of Figen Murphy OBE as she pushes for the introduction of Martyn’s Law which

PANIC OR EMERGENCY?

Do

The term ‘exit hardware’ is more conventionally categorised as either panic hardware or emergency exit hardware. With distinguishing characteristics and features, both categories of exit hardware provide users with a safe means of escape, and both have come a long way since their inception. As such, selecting the most

suitable solutions can be a challenge for modern projects and decision makers are reminded to consider a number of key factors as outlined here by Sue Corrick of Allegion UK.

DISTINCTIVE HARDWARE

When a person reaches an exit door, it is essential that the door can be operated

with ease, regardless of who is operating it and where it is being used. While all exit hardware plays an integral role in this process, decision makers must consider a building’s type, application and its occupation levels when selecting between panic and emergency exit hardware.

Panic hardware is a type of exit device that has been designed to provide safe and effective escape through doorways with minimum effort and without prior knowledge of its operation. Panic hardware comes in the form of horizontal push or touch bars and is commonly applied to outward opening

doors in public facing buildings or buildings with more than 60 occupants, where it can be operated by untrained people or members of the public, ensuring safe and effective escape. With its size, panic hardware is typically easier to see and operate than some emergency exit hardware devices. With this in mind, decision makers should often choose to implement panic hardware solutions in busy public spaces where usability is paramount. For spaces where opening width is limited, a non-intrusive touch bar can also be a practical option. Furthermore, in cases where users may wish to gain access from the outside of a door with a panic bar, an outside access device can also be applied to maintain equal levels of accessibility and security.

Emergency exit hardware is dissimilar in a few areas. Typically smaller devices, emergency exit hardware is often applied in buildings with less than 60 occupants or non-public buildings, where its users have prior knowledge of the building’s layout, its escape routes and the exit devices placed throughout them. Think office

spaces and warehouses for example. In design, emergency exit devices commonly comprise of a single push pad with a rim latch or a lever handle operating a mortice escape lock or nightlatch and allow for single action egress. Where emergency exit hardware is applied, it must be certified to BS EN 179.

INFORMATION IS KEY

All doors located on an escape route must have suitable exit hardware installed. And so, with varied solutions available, specification teams must also consider the door in which an exit device will be fitted. Will the device be applied to single or double doors? What are the height and width requirements? And does the device need anti-thrust bolts for added levels of security? Above all, does it meet the latest fire safety standards?

If in doubt, decision makers are urged to select door hardware devices that are tested to EN 1125 while referring to harmonised and designated standards if they feel unsure. For traceability purposes, decision makers and endusers can also review the UKCA and CE marks on exit hardware to find its fire rating, certificate numbers and the manufacturer’s details. When it comes to installation, teams are advised to use the support that’s made available by manufacturers, in the form of helpful online tools and product guides. As with all other fire door hardware, there is no one-size-fits-all solution where exit hardware is concerned. Panic hardware and emergency exit hardware play crucial, but separate roles in a building’s evacuation routes and as such, both decision makers and end-users alike must be able to distinguish between them both.

IF IN DOUBT, DECISION MAKERS ARE URGED TO SELECT DOOR HARDWARE DEVICES THAT ARE TESTED TO EN 1125 WHILE REFERRING TO STANDARDS IF THEY FEEL UNSURE

APPLICATIONS

EXETER CITY COUNCIL TRANSITIONS TO IP NETWORK

CAMERAS FROM 360 Vision Technology have been integral to a long-term CCTV upgrade programme across the city of Exeter.

Installed by Select Electrics and specified by Derek Maltby of Global MSC Security, with funding from the Safer Streets 2 initiative, the need for the expansion and modernisation of the existing Exeter analogue-based CCTV network, to an IP system, began two years ago.

The scope of the Exeter City Council project was for coverage of additional areas identified as requiring protection for students, routes used by lone women during evenings, and parts of the town centre not covered by the existing camera surveillance network, including additional streets and city centre car parks.

Operating a completely analogue system, Exeter City Council also required replacement of several cameras that were beginning to fail, in addition to expanding surveillance coverage to the required new areas. Not wanting to just replace the existing camera network with the same analogue technology, management in the Exeter control room had a long-term vision to upgrade to completely IP transmission, and also to a new VMS.

“Not only would budgets not allow the replacement of the entire camera network in one global switchover, but we could not afford the system downtime that switching all the network to IP transmission in one step would necessitate.” says Dennis Cavanagh, Control room Operations Manager, Exeter City Council.

To bridge the gap, Exeter City Council deployed the 360 Vision hybrid Invictus camera. This enabled the replacement of the existing analogue cameras, with the functionality and quality required, but with a built-in capability to convert them into IP transmission devices once the

“As well as IP camera transmission, we were also looking to update our control room VMS to IP technology, so the ability to ‘switch’ our new cameras’ transmission in sync with this was critical to the project’s success.” says Dennis. “The Invictus Hybrid camera technology has proved to be a great solution for us, one that really has bridged the gap between the analogue and IP transmission worlds and, importantly for us, meant that we didn’t waste investment on new analogue only cameras that would need to be replaced long before the end of their service life.”

Thirty Invictus Hybrid cameras were installed across the network, in several small, easily manageable projects of camera replacement. Linked to a fibreoptic network installed by the council in a co-funded partnership between the University of Exeter, the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, and Exeter City Council, images from the replacement and additional new cameras are transmitted back to the City Council’s control room.

In areas where access to the fibre network was difficult, or local protected infrastructure such as architecture or historical cobbles were present, an alternative solution had to be found. In these instances, a network of ruggedised Invictus Hybrid PTZ cameras were again deployed, but this time equipped with 360 Vision TX wireless technology, to enable simple connection to the main fibre network via built-in video streaming over mobile phone networks.

CASINO RESORT INSTALLS 600-CAMERA SYSTEM

THE GOLDENEYE Hotel and Resort in Svilengrad, on the Bulgarian and Turkish border is providing enhanced security with more efficient guest services thanks to a 600-camera video surveillance solution from IDIS.

The end-to-end solution was installed by Volga Elektronik to cover the casino, hotel, and car parks.

A combination of IDIS 12MP Super Fisheyes, 8MP IR and 5MP IR dome cameras allows broad scene surveillance of all internal areas, without blind spots, plus targeted coverage of priority locations such as cashier cages and slot machines. Gaming tables are monitored in fine detail with operators able to identify card suits, chip denominations and quickly detect any suspicious player activity, regardless of low light or cigarette smoke. Instant and smooth de-warping of the fisheye images supports real time viewing and playback, allowing incidents to be resolved rapidly and preventing game stoppages.

External areas, including parking bays and entrances, are covered using IDIS 5MP IR bullet cameras and 2MP IR PTZs. The system also comprises seven 64-channel NVR recorders; and IDIS Solution Suite enterprise-class VMS and Critical Failover to protect continuous access to video and provide full redundancy in the event of a range of fault conditions.

IDIS Solution Suite VMS allows 24/7 monitoring by six operators.

network had become IP ready.

DSSL GROUP UTILISES CLOUD-BASED MANAGEMENT

DSSL GROUP has rolled-out a new field service management system from BigChange. The cloud-based system incorporates vehicle tracking, mobile workforce app, intelligent job scheduling and an online customer booking portal. The system has reportedly helped the Essex-based company offset more than 200 tonnes of CO2 and achieve net zero running for its fleet of vehicles, as well as reducing paper use by around 20,000 sheets a year.

DSSL operates a mixed fleet of more than forty vans and five cherry pickers from its regional operation centres in Essex, Leeds and London. Completing around 100 planned jobs a day with an additional 15-30 out-of-hours call outs,

DSSL implemented BigChange to replace a number of disparate and outdated systems.

Automated workflows and integration of management systems has meant that two, full-time staff members have been redeployed within the business equating to a saving of around £60,000 per annum. DSSL is also realising improvements in cashflow due to more timely and accurate invoicing and improved management reporting.

“Prior to BigChange we had a job sheet system that was server based, we used Google calendar, a separate tracking system and multiple spreadsheets to manage daily activities such as job raising and invoicing,” commented Aaron

Stephens, MD of DSSL Group. “Engineers couldn’t create jobs when responding to call outs, which meant we needed a dedicated member of staff to raise these retrospectively and chase engineers for the required information to close the job for invoicing.”

SPORTS ARENA OPTS FOR WIRELESS SOLUTION

RIGA SPORTS arena is a municipal facility maintained by the city of Riga, Latvia. Covering a total area of 21,821 square metres, the arena faced a significant security challenge, relying on two guards who worked only night shifts. Depending on just one person was insufficient to ensure the safety of the complex, given its size. Considering the building’s size and recent reconstruction work, the installation of a traditional wired security solution was deemed impractical. GRIFS AG proposed an Ajax wireless solution that could be installed without damaging the walls and could be managed through a mobile app.

In total, 115 devices were installed throughout the building and for streamlined control without the need for

multiple hubs, Hub 2 Plus Jeweller was selected. This hub can control up to 200 devices, managing 25 security groups with a total of 200 users.

Given that the sports complex spans three floors and considering the need for the hub signal to pass through two reinforced concrete floors, the decision was made to enhance its communication range. To ensure stable communication between all 115 detectors and the hub, the ReX 2 Jeweller radio signal range extender was installed. This guarantees a connection between all system components, ensuring communication even in areas with challenging signal transmission conditions.

GRIFS AG installed DoorProtect Jeweller opening detectors to oversee

all doors. Additionally, MotionProtect Curtain Jeweller, with a narrow viewing angle and a maximum detection range of up to 15 metres, protects the large windows in corridors and sports halls. MotionProtect Jeweller detectors were installed throughout all entrances, corridors and stairwells to notify the owner and the security company in case of any detected motion.

SECURITY UPGRADE FOR HERTFORDSHIRE GARDEN CENTRE

AMTHAL HAS worked with Hertfordshire Garden Centre to install additional IP CCTV across its retail site and upgrade existing systems, including its intruder alarm solution, for the safety and security of staff and visitors.

Based in Redbourn on the outskirts of St Albans, Hertfordshire Garden Centre is a small, independent retail premises, serving as a hub for home and gardening enthusiasts. Amthal has worked with the team to ensure a secure operation, most recently adding IP CCTV and an updated intruder alarm system.

Graham Armstrong, Owner of Hertfordshire Garden Centre, says: “Faced with the cost-of-living crisis and a corresponding surge in shoplifting, security of our site is definitely a top

priority. But it’s not solely the Police’s job to look after us, we have to take proactive responsibility for our staff and our visitors, without compromising our friendly and welcoming environment.

Amthal has added over 20 IP cameras and upgraded the existing visual verification systems, allowing management and security to review activity throughout the premises in real-time and empowering personnel to respond promptly to any potential incidents. The addition of a new monitored intruder alarm solution is geared to quickly detect any breach and provide security against unauthorised access attempts.

Jacki Adams, Installation Supervisor at Amthal Fire & Security says: “In the current climate, retail crime has hit record

levels, increasing by more than a third over the past year alone. What Hertfordshire Garden Centre demonstrates is by taking a proactive approach to enhancing the security infrastructure on-site, they are doing all they can to protect teams and visitors.”

AI SOLUTION OVERCOMES SPEEDING PROBLEM

AN AI camera solution installed by Kingdom Systems originally used to catch fly tippers has provided a solution for Dartford Council, whose street racing problem was giving the council over 500 complaints of noise and dangerous driving.

The dual carriageway from Crossways Boulevard to the Dartford Crossing has for years been plagued by noisy and dangerous drivers despite the multiple dispersal orders from police and work from the borough council. The area was increasingly becoming a dangerous place to be.

Inspired by the success from the installation of cameras in some of Dartford’s fly tipping hotspots the council worked with Kingdom Local Authority Support and Kingdom Systems to install the camera technology in the racing area to help catch dangerous drivers. They harnessed technology combined with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) to detect and work with the local authority and police force to hold the individuals accountable.

Within the first week of the cameras being installed in the Crossways Boulevard area, 43 Fixed Penalty Notices and 28 Community Protection Warnings were issued by Kingdom Local Authority Support Officers to nuisance drivers. Since then, the number of fines issues has reduced dramatically and there has been no calls or complaints from local residents.

FIRE SAFETY FOR TEMPORARY THEATRE

AS THE maintenance provider for Trafalgar Theatres at its Orchard Theatre site in Dartford, Blake Fire & Security and Cygnus distributor Illumino Ignis (Kent) were approached for a solution to satisfy the fire safety requirements of the temporary venue capable of holding 1,091 audience members, while the main Orchard Theatre was closed due to RAAC Works.

With a turnaround of a week, Blake Fire & Security and IIKL specified the Cygnus EN 54 certified, wireless SmartNet-Pro fire detection and alarm system. The technology is run by battery powered radio devices as part of a self-forming and self-healing mesh network, giving a minimum of two communication paths to each wireless device for reliability.

Rory Foster, Fire Safety Systems Manager at Blake Fire & Security says: “SmartNet-Pro was exactly what we needed for the complexities of this project.”

Given the nature of the venue, the fire alarm system needed to have some features to give the theatre control of the system. The Blake Fire & Security and IIKL teams were required to consider factors including smoke machines being used and heating pipes with hot air being blown throughout the site as well as the effect of a false alarm and evacuation during a performance.

LOCKING SYSTEM PROTECTS VANS AND TOOLS

BRISTOL-BASED Shearline Locksmiths has utilised Mul-T-Lock’s MVP1000 vehicle security system to enhance the security of its commercial vans. As an active physical and visual deterrent, the lock acts to prevent theft, safeguard valuable equipment, and ensure the safety of its assets whilst in transit with its durable outer body.

Tom Davison, Locksmith and Company Owner of Shearline Locksmiths says: “Unfortunately van crime is on the up which can have a detrimental impact on livelihood especially with the loss of tools and potential vehicles. Protecting our van fleet and assets is critical. MulT-Lock’s MVP1000 is easy to install with templates, packers and fixings supplied

After a site survey and design service, Blake Fire & Security and IIKL provided the specification and design to the theatre who then got the design signed off by the local council and local fire authority. Working with the theatre and local council, amendments and additions were made to the design, so the whole process was taken care of without any design surprises at the end of the project.

The SmartNet-Pro system of 65 devices was installed in a day, with another day allowed for testing and demonstrations; using rods and Unistrut fixings to fix detectors into positions where wired detectors would not feasibly be able to be installed. The fire alarm panel was installed by the stage door, so that the stage door staff could hear when an activation has occurred, and then decide on whether to initiate the investigation delay.

and acts as the perfect deterrent for commercial vehicles without the high cost of morticed deadlocks.”

Jamie Jagpal, Mechanical Product Manager of Mul-T-Lock added: “Latest figures show that 11,714 vans were stolen in the UK over the past year, and £3.5bn worth of equipment was taken. With Police Forces and insurance companies citing the need for extra precautionary measures, we are thrilled that our locksmiths such as Shearline Locksmiths are proactively embracing the MVP1000 to deliver advanced security measures to keep vans and assets safe and secure.”
