Is a developing focus on smart credentials for access control really the future?
This month the access control company CDVI wrote an interesting Blog (cdvi.co.uk/blog-how-to-open-doors-fromyour-smartphone) about smartphone credentials following the statement from the Wall Street Journal that “your phone is everything now”. Indeed, not only is your phone a phone; it is a calculator and a journal and a camera. But it’s also your bank, your debit card, your sat nav, your music, your television, your taxi service – and more. It therefore stands to reason that manufacturers and developers will look for further uses for the technology going forward.
The natural next phase of access control’s evolution is mobile, says CDVI, and if everything else is already on your phone, why not access control as well? Many of you will already know how your customers love an app when it comes to security monitoring, which for you can mean recurring revenues.
Most smartphones utilise either Bluetooth or NFC technology. Instead of issuing a person with a physical card, a virtual credential is sent to their mobile phone, usually via an app. When in range of a compatible reader, a signal is created between the phone and the reader. Instead of information stored on an RFID card, it’s digital information kept in the app that is passed via Bluetooth or NFC to the reader. From there, the access control system uses the information in the same way as that from a card. The system analyses the information and determines whether the person should be granted or denied access. Smart watches are also part of the package.
Mobile credentials offer a range of benefits above and beyond physical cards and tags. Because everything else is already on your phone, you don’t need to remember anything. You’re much more likely to misplace a swipe card or forget it at home when you leave the house. It’s a rare occasion that we forget to go out without our phones these days.
In the long run, says CDVI, physical credentials will need to be replaced. People lose them or damage them or they wear out in time. Mobile credentials don’t. You’re much more likely to look after your expensive smartphone as a high-value object, which is a key point to those who look for the negative first when it come to adopting new methods.
There will be some, especially locksmiths, that will point to aspects such as battery life or misplacement as reasons why mobile credentials might be a headache, but the reliance and familiarity of smartphones means that they are held with more regard than any other daily use item. As the next generation begins using smart technology at an ever-earlier age and subsequently becomes the next generation of home owners, it is possible that mobile credentials could become the desired method of entry within quite a relatively short period of time.

Nick Ross elected as BSIA president
The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has elected broadcaster and campaigner Nick Ross CBE as its new president.
Nick will replace Sir Keith Povey, who retires as president after 14 years, taking up the role at the Association’s Annual General Meeting in London. His primary goal will be to continue the work on developing the relationship between police and private security.
Starting as a junior reporter while still at university, Nick covered the Northern Ireland troubles for the BBC and moved to host programmes such as Radio 4’s The World at One, PM and The World Tonight. He became a TV reporter, documentary director, political correspondent and chaired live debates, but was best known for the crime appeals programme Crimewatch which he presented for over two decades. He conceived the new discipline of Crime Science which focuses on practical, multidisciplinary and outcome-focused approaches to crime reduction, and he founded the Jill Dando Institute at UCL. He has served on several government crime prevention committees and has advised Victim Support and the National Police Chiefs Council.
Nick has been involved in several other community safety initiatives, notably in road accident reduction and fire safety, and has a long interest in healthcare and public understanding of science.
Simon Banks, BSIA Chairman, said: “It’s an honour to welcome Nick as our new president. His experience in law enforcement and the security sector will provide huge benefits to BSIA member companies. We must see the Police and the private security sector working together, alongside deployment of the latest technology whilst sharing event intelligence to increase public safety.”
Nick said, “Crime is a measure of society’s wellbeing, and the UK does not have a good enough record, midway down the league table for industrialised nations. We all know prevention is better than cure, and learning is better than blame. Crime reduction requires industry to take responsibility for making its services and products safe, as well as an ever-closer relationship between the private sector and police.
“The BSIA is a key player. It represents the oftenundervalued army of informal guardians and sometimes brilliant innovators who help make our world a safer place. I hope the next few years will see a growing alliance between technologists, ethicists, police and the private sector to help communities be more at ease with themselves and to drive improvements for the UK’s record of crime reduction.”

IDIS DR-2304P
This network video recorder is the 4-channel version of a wide range of IDIS recorders. It supports UHD realtime recording and display. This model was supplied with a single 2TB Western Digital Purple Surveillance drive fitted. The chassis has space and connectors for a second drive to be added. Four additional mounting screws are supplied in the Quick-guide packaging.
The system uses IDIS DirectIP technology to allow installers to simply connect IDIS cameras to the NVR without needing to configure IP addresses.
The unit has dimension of 300 x 231 x 62mm and a weight of 2.2kg and an operating temperature from 0°C to 40°C.
Getting started
The NVR requires two power supplies, the 12volt supply powers the main unit and the 48v supply is used to supply PoE power for the cameras.
The rear panel has sockets from left to right as Audio O/P (phono), VGA Out, HDMI, e-SATA, 48v Input, 4 x RJ45 PoE Video, Network Client, 10-way push-fit, 12v Input.
The 10-way connector is configured for 4 Alarm Inputs and Ground, Alarm Output (Common and N/O) then Ground and RS232.
The front panel includes a pair of USB sockets, one USB 2 and one USB 3. Three status indicators beneath the power light show Drive activity, Network connection and Alarm status.
The system uses IDIS DirectIP technology to allow installers to simply connect IDIS cameras to the NVR without needing to configure IP addresses
When first powered the NVR shows the IDIS splash screen and then performs a search for IDIS cameras before loading its setup system. After entering one of the sixteen language options, the NVR shows a “Secure by default” message that confirms that all WAN connectivity is blocked until changed with the Firewall setting. Following this, the administrator password must be set. An e-mail address must be entered to provide access to the password if lost. A password strength indication is shown on the entry screen.
A six step Quick Setup wizard is then presented to work through settings including the Date & Time, Record method, Record video quality, H.265 Codec setup and Network settings.
Date and Time can be set to UK (DD-MMYYYY) display format with GMT and Daylightsaving options. The Record Method allows Motion events to be recorded at a higher quality. The record quality allows a choice of high quality at the expense of disk storage space, Standard recording or longer time priority.
Where cameras support the compression standard, the H.265 setting gives a choice of H.265 only recording and playback or H.265 / H.264 Hybrid mode where the recordings use H.265 but any remote devices can receive H.264 streams to reduce their processor demand.
The LAN setup mode is then entered to set LAN configuration, UPnP port forwarding and FEN (For Every Network) mDNS settings.
Once all settings are completed the NVR requests the admin password and shows the main display screen.
INTEGRATED ACCESS SECURITY POWERFUL WEB BASED CONTROLLER
A side mounted fan helps regulate temperature. The relay output is a physical 12v relay.

DISPLAY: OSD, Main Monitor.
STATUS: Camera, Device, VA Box, Alarm Box, System Storage, Network.
System events include, non-Camera system events, Video Analytics, Additional alarm events and VA Box events.
A “Panic” mode is available via the mouse or remote control, and this records all channels, for a defined period or until cancelled, regardless of any schedules that are in place.
The VA Box is an external encoder for analogue cameras and includes analytics functions. The Alarm box is another optional item that can be used in addition to the four alarm inputs on the rear panel.
The NVR is mouse controlled or can be operated using the remote control. Unlike many simple NVR remotes, this one is well featured and provides a quick way to navigate around the system with good PTZ operation
Operation
The NVR is mouse controlled or can be operated using the remote control. Unlike many simple NVR remotes, this one is well featured and provides a quick way to navigate around the system with good PTZ operation for controllable cameras.
The recorder supports a throughput of 160Mb/s. and a display resolution up to 3840 x 2160. Recording at up to 70Mb/s, 120ips at UHD resolution. Using H.265 or H.264.
Two internal 8TB drives can be fitted and if the e-SATA external connection is used, this can increase to a total of 48TB.
The PoE supply is stated as up to 30 watts total for the four channels.
Video Playback has options for Time-Lapse, Event Log, and Thumbnail searches. These are supported by unconventional transport controls but provide good functionality for quickly finding video.
The DirectIP system provides mutual authentication between the NVR and any IDIS cameras so installers only need to manage the admin and any user passwords. Loss of the admin password can be protected against by registering a suitable e-mail address for a reset code to be supplied.
The secure FEN connectivity allows remote access with 2-factor authentication using the IDIS Mobile Plus app.
Conclusion
Using IDIS DirectIP makes this a very simple to install, flexible small system recorder capable of recording UHD (4K) images.

PRODUCT TEST
The i-Pro WV-S71300-F3 camera is described as an internal IP44 mini box camera with overall dimensions of 102(w) x 48(H) x 21(D) mm. It has a clear protective cover that increases the dimension by approximately 1.5mm per side. Overall weight is 197 grams including the mount. Its 3.2mm lens gives a viewing angle of 81.1° (H) x 51.4° (V). It utilises Ambarella CV22 System-on-Chip technology for AI based analytics, with capacity for third-party apps.
Getting started
The camera has two connectors on short flying leads. The first is an RJ45 socket for PoE and the second is a male “C” type USB for optional 5v power, where PoE is not available. An angled mounting bracket is used to connect to a standard 1/4” thread mount.
The camera has DHCP on by default so will be allocated an IP address if on a suitably configured network. The address can be found using the usual search tools or the i-Pro configuration tool software can be downloaded from the i-Pro.com website. This allows network settings and camera configuration to be changed and updated.
At the right-hand side of the casing are two removable covers. These both have captive crosshead screws and a securing link to prevent loss when working in the field. The lower cover gives access to two indicator LEDs showing Network Link state and Activity, a Micro SD card slot and a recessed “Initial Set” button. The upper cover accesses a USB 2.0 socket that can be used to connect a wireless link for camera field of view setting.
The i-Pro support site, accessible from the browser display, provides a comprehensive 182 page operating manual along with a range of quick-start documents.
Operation
Once PoE or network and 5 volts are connected the camera can be accessed using a standard browser. At first connection the user is presented with an Administrator registration
that requests a Username and a password. The Username can be from 1 to 32 characters and the Password must be from 8 to 32 characters with a mix of at least three of upper and lower case, alpha characters, numbers, and symbols.
Once set the user is prompted to sign-in with these login details and then an initial settings page is presented. This is for the menu Language and Time and Date setting. Daylight saving can be set to Auto or specific dates and time can be entered. Once set the main display window shows the camera image.
By default, the main stream is set to H.265 encoding so may need to be changed to H.264 for real-time browser image viewing.
The screen has a set of control icon buttons at the top right to access; Snapshot, Live view (Stream selection), Image comparison, Support Website, Full screen, Grid display, and Angle of View display. These are followed by Camera control and Setup buttons. The image comparison allows a split screen to be displayed showing a snapshot image before configuration changes so that the effect can be compared.
Although the specification quoted a PoE power demand of 9.6W at 48V it was seen to draw around 3.5W with a maximum of 4.9W so processor utilisation may affect this.

The network settings include both IPv4 and IPv6 settings with Advanced settings including
AI video motion detection can discern Human, Bicycle, and Vehicle subjects, with Intrusion, Loitering or directional flow alerting
The camera gives good colour images with a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution from its 1/2.8” sensor. It has a stated sensitivity of 0.21 lux colour and 0.2 lux black and white at 30 fps down to 0.019 lux colour to 0.013 lux black and white at approximately half a second shutter speed. This supports the fact that it does not appear to use a switchable infrared filter.
Up to 8 colour coded privacy zones can be entered by selecting four points on the screen, these appear as opaque grey areas on the live screen. Up to four video motion detection areas can be assigned.
While there is a Zoom function termed “Extra optical zoom” the specification makes clear that this is up to 3x and reduces the resolution progressively to 640 x 360 pixels so is a purely digital zoom feature.
The camera can record images to a MicroSD card for edge recording, with up to 512GB cards supported.
Two microphones give clear single channel audio and can be used for audio alarm detection of sounds including Gunshot, Yell, Vehicle Horn and Glass Break.
AI video motion detection can discern Human, Bicycle, and Vehicle subjects, with Intrusion, Loitering or directional flow alerting. As the camera may have good potential for retail installations where signage and layout changes may frequently occur, it has been given flexible scene change detection and alerting capabilities.
Conclusion
A very compact camera whose appearance does not stand out, making it ideal for locations where overt security is not desired.

A WIND OF CHANGE FOR CCTV?
UK authorities have warned of the risks associated with using certain manufacturers’ video surveillance equipment over fears that the technology presents a security risk and claims that the cameras have been used unethically. Fraser Sampson, the UK biometrics and surveillance camera commissioner, recently described the use of certain manufacturers’ video cameras in UK infrastructure as “digital asbestos”, while government departments have been banned from using equipment produced by certain companies at sensitive sites across the UK.
Perhaps recognising these fears, the research found that nearly 4 in 10 (39%) of UK security managers expect legislation similar to the USA’s NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act), which restricts the sale and use of certain manufacturers’ video technology, will become law in their own country at some point. Indeed, nearly one-third (31%) of UK security managers would actually support a version of the NDAA becoming law in their own country.
New research commissioned by Hanwha Vision reveals how strongly users feel that the video cameras available to them are produced by a reputable manufacturer and are used responsibly.
Nearly three-quarters of (73%) European Security Managers believe it is important to source their cameras from manufacturers that uphold the responsible use of security technology, while more than 8 in 10 (81%) of UK security managers believe that surveillance technology, such as video cameras, should be used responsibly.
The survey of over 600 Security Managers from medium to large organisations in the UK, Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France was conducted by Research Without Barriers for South Korean video provider Hanwha Vision in December 2022.
“Just as we have seen in consumer technology markets, commercial video camera users are looking for more than low cost: they want to partner with brands that put responsible use, data security and ethical manufacture at their core,” says Uri Guterman, Head of Product & Marketing of Hanwha Vision Europe.
The research also reveals that nearly one in two (47%) of UK security managers are able to differentiate between security suppliers and manufacturers from their position on the ethical use of surveillance technology. This would seem to undermine any attempts by disreputable brands to downplay the security threats and unethical use associated with their cameras.
“Like other technology sectors, a wind of change is blowing through the video surveillance industry,” Uri Guterman says. “As our research clearly shows, while developments such as AI at the edge make video camera systems more powerful, users want to balance the greater insights and control they gain from this technology with reassurance that it is used and supplied in a responsible way.”
Commenting on the strength of feeling that Security Managers expressed in the research, Uri Guterman calls on the industry as a whole to meet users’ requirements: “The growth of the European security industry - and the successful extension of video technology beyond typical security applications to deliver wider business efficiencies - relies on manufacturers and installers alike embracing users’ demands that they put responsible use at the heart of what they do. It’s time for the industry to step up.”
Full details of the research can be found here:

Security life with Lee Oldaker of Sentinel Security Systems and Faithful Alarms
Time in security/fire: 25 years

the pleasure of working with. Hereford & Worcester are relatively small cities, so we soon get to know the right people.
What would be a typical project for you?
Intruder and CCTV are our main installation types. As we are situated in Hereford, we get involved with quite a lot of Army and MOD installations. However, we also like the NHS type projects.
Do you have any ‘go to’ technology and manufacturers?
Texecom, Dahua, Videcon and Paxton.
What is the best thing about working in this industry?
No two days are the same, the variety of work we cover and the people/companies we have
Is third party certification beneficial?
Yes, very much so, as some customers will only use cer tified/accredited companies which then can sometimes put us at the front of the pack. Me and my team have worked very hard to maintain these high standards.
Do you think there is an engineer skills shor tage? Any trouble recruiting?
There is a massive shortage of skilled and time-ser ved engineers at the moment and I feel that some of the old ways just haven’t been passed on in both work effects and

knowledge. In my area it is hard to find skilled engineers who are time-served, so we have invested a lot into training new engineers. We had put four through Skills for Security and job-based training and now after four years they are coming into their own. I was once an apprentice, ironically with Sentinel Security, I learnt so much in those years; I came back “and bought the company” as the entrepreneur Victor Kiam used to say. At present we are running more apprentice schemes and shall continue to do so to guarantee our future growth plan.
Are there any common requests from cus tomers that give you problems? This is always a funny one because if you can explain everything from the outset, before install, then the customer should always get what they are expecting. But of course there is always the curve ball and this can sometimes be the best, not worst, part of the job because if you can revolve any issues when others can’t then you and others feel empowered. I love these sorts of challenges, it’s very rewarding.
What is the security industry’s biggest myth? Spiders!
What impact has smart/home automation had on your business?
We have tip-toed into smart home automation. I believe it does have a future
when that market settles down. The impact has come not so much from the systems, but all the equipment users can buy online themselves because the cost can’t always be matched and a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing, especially for the “have a go” DIY guys.
What would make your job easier?
I feel I’m still at the growing and learning stage. It has taken me a few y ears to surround myself with a great team - I have found over the years that having a good team around you, who fully understands the roles and responsibilities make your job easier and enjoyable. And not in a sad way, but I’m a big believer in to get the best out of others and yourself you should always enjoy your job (most of the time anyway).
What is your ultimate/fantasy electronic security/ fi re product?
An all-in-one CCTV, fire and intruder alarm that fits itself?
What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself?
Travel, travel, travel - as much as you can while you have no committees. There is a big, beautiful world out there to explore, so make some memories to share in the future with your family. Once you have family they will and should always come first. Also follow your gut feeling and even if things don’t work out the first time, try again and never give up.
Will England ever win the World Cup again? Not unless we change our style of play and not be so defence minded and also sometime allow the young ones loose.
If you won £25K what would you do with it? Currently would breathe easy, put it in the bank to help towards my daughter’s university costs. If this wasn’t the situation, I would take my family away for a few days and bank the rest for a raining day. Boring I know! (Not to mention a new mountain bike alongside a new motorbike.)
“I was once an apprentice, ironically with Sentinel Security, I learnt so much in those years; I came back “and bought the company” as the entrepreneur Victor Kiam used to say”

Texecom gains CySPAG accreditation
Intruder
Set up in 2017, the Cyber Security Product Assurance Group (CySPAG) is an action group that is operated by the BSIA to tackle cybersecurity in the professional security industry with the objective of ensuring best in class digital security products enter the market.
Following an assessment procedure to meet a set level of criteria Texecom Cloud Services, Texecom Connect (application), Texecom Monitor and Texecom SmartCom all successfully received the CySPAG accreditation which is valid for 12-months before being re-tested to the latest cyber requirements.
Covering all aspects of cybersecurity, the assessment follows a secure development lifecycle and as a result cyber security features are considered and tested alongside other product functions throughout the product development process. This reduces the number and severity of any potential security flaws in the product prior to it entering the market.
Cybersecurity best practice processes are also assessed including ensuring all default passwords are fully unique and multi-factor authentication is used ensuring the number of potential attack surfaces are minimised.
Further requirements of the CySPAG accreditation required Texecom to successfully demonstrate effective and efficient communication policies for security updates along with a pro-active vulnerability disclosure policy allowing customers to report any unlikely security vulnerabilities they may encounter.
Steve Lampett, Technical Manager, BSIA, said: “We are delighted that Texecom has joined the CySPAG registration scheme. By registering on the platform it sends out a message of confidence throughout the supply chain that cybersecurity has been addressed not only at a product level during the design and manufacturing process, but also includes the ongoing support to ensure the installed product maintains its resilience to cyber-attack.”
Alex Toohie, Compliance Manager, Texecom, said: “Receiving this accreditation not only underpins our focus on cyber security across all of these platforms but also provides peace of mind to our users as we strive to constantly improve the performance and security of our digital services.”
“By registering on the platform it sends out a message of confidence throughout the supply chain that cybersecurity has been addressed”

Hybrid video system tackles shrinkage at hypermarket
IDIS was chosen by Prisma’s chain of hypermarkets in Finland to implement a video surveillance upgrade to tackle shrink and improve system usability at four of its hypermarkets. The huge retail chain opted for a hybrid solution integrating many third-party products to improve their centralised view of operations and cut shrink.
Prisma’s existing surveillance system had been expanded and added to over the years, and encompassed more than 150 third-party analogue cameras to provide coverage in four malls – the Prisma Vaasa, Prisma Kouvola, Prisma Tripla, and Prisma Kristiine. Operating the system had become very challenging, with significant latency impacting camera control and no complete, ‘single pane of glass’ overview of the system or sites. Image quality and speed of the third-party video wall in the central control room were also issues that hampered their security team’s ability to track suspected thieves.
Working with systems integrator, Safe IT, Prisma opted for IDIS Solution Suite (ISS) VMS to facilitate a simple integration and deliver comprehensive coverage. ISS comes with easyto-use live video streaming, management, and administration tools and the ability to seamlessly integrate third-party cameras from a single user interface.
The flexibility of IDIS Solution Suite was in evidence as Safe IT used an analogue and IP mix and match approach of new IDIS cameras while retaining existing third-party NVRs and legacy models. The cameras were rapidly connected using a third-party encoder while improving system performance. An IDIS video wall was deployed to provide live and centralised monitoring capabilities, enabling quick identification, tracking and a rapid response to potential threats with operators benefitting from IDIS Smart UX Controls.
“The IDIS video solution has provided Prisma with greatly strengthened and improved efficiency of our security operations, ensuring an enhanced and proactive user experience for system operators,” reports Jari-Pekka Repo Security Manager, Prisma Tripla. “Prisma is delighted with the performance of the IDIS solution, and we are now looking to roll the technology out to more stores in 2023 “
IDIS tech is providing Prisma with an improved user experience and enhanced security. In addition, IDIS technology gives Prisma the best total cost of ownership (TCO) with single one-off, upfront licensing and has allowed the hypermarket chain to extend the life cycle of existing equipment to improve sustainability and realise a rapid return on investment. “The flexibility and scalability of IDIS Solution Suite has allowed Prisma to truly future-proof their surveillance operations as they embark on a phased upgrade at stores across the Nordics,” notes Harry Kim, Director of the IDIS EMEA Business Development Team.
Fire alarm system scores at South Shields FC

An integrated entry security solution for office complex
Located near London’s Holborn station, MidCity Place has recently undergone comprehensive refurbishment. As part of this refurbishment project, the landlord sought to upgrade the building’s existing entrance control system which had become costly to maintain and run. There was also a need to refresh the whole look of the communal reception area.
Following a successful tender process, security integrators ISD Tech put forward an entrance control solution featuring Fastlane turnstiles which could easily be integrated alongside the building’s existing access control system, as Nicky Stokes - Managing Director at ISD Tech - explains:
“As part of the tender process, we took the MidCity Place team to visit existing Fastlane installations in similar buildings around London. It was great to be able to show them how the turnstiles looked and operated and explain why they would be an ideal solution for their refurbished reception area.
“For this project, we specified Fastlane’s Glassgate 150 turnstiles and a Passgate 300 as the sleek design of the turnstiles was in-keeping with the design of the reception area, providing a strong security presence without being imposing.”
EN54-13 compliant system features a 2-loop CAST XFP addressable fire panel connected to detectors, sounder VADs and call points to provide fire detection technology at the ground. Matthew Jefferson, Sales Director of installer ACS Technologies said: “The system has all the key features you need such as easy-installation and none of the complicated ones you don’t which is exactly what we look for in a fire alarm system.”
The IDL sales team used a 3D modelling camera to provide the client with renders of how the turnstiles would look in situ. Using this technology was critical for the team at MidCity Place, enabling them to get an understanding of the size and style of the turnstiles, before committing to the project.
The Glassgate 150 turnstiles were supplied using stainless steel with a brushed stainless steel finish, featuring glass panels with dual swing glass barriers and built in card readers that were integrated with the building’s Genetec access control system.
NHS Raigmore utilises locking and key management solution
Abloy UK has supplied NHS Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, with the eCLIQ electromechanical solution for on-site facilities management and security.
NHS Raigmore provides a range of healthcare services - surgical, medical, clinical support – and with eight floors, over 2,800 staff and over 450 beds, the hospital is very busy every day. It is the only District General Hospital in the NHS Highland Partnership, which owns over 200 sites throughout their Health Board area.
The sheer size of the hospital estate requires a large facilities management team to oversee building maintenance and environmental services. Plant rooms, high and low voltage rooms and roof hatches are accessed daily to maintain the building – along with a helipad that needs securing and opening when air ambulance need to land.
NHS Raigmore approached Abloy UK to discuss a key management solution that would meet the latest regulations, has the capability
800-room science campus gets new fire safety system
Comelit-PAC’s fire system has been installed by CFS Systems on an 800-room student accommodation complex, dedicated to serving Crewe’s new medical health science campus.
The Apollo Buckingham Health Science Campus (ABHSC) presents 800 bedrooms, with a mix of communal spaces and facilities, including extended learning
to monitor the use of keys and can easily revoke access from lost or stolen keys.
Abloy UK recommended eCLIQ, a web-based locking and key management solution. The system was installed throughout the estate, with 82 locks fitted by Raigmore’s facilities management team and 42 keys issued to staff and contractors. Installation was easy as the cylinders do not require a power output.
eCLIQ uses web management software providing insights into when, where and by who the keys are used. Facilities management have a detailed overview and control of access across the hospital as the system logs the time and user of the key every time it’s used. If problems occur, it is easy to determine who last entered the room to find out more information in a substantially reduced time.
The risk of unauthorised access is reduced with web management software controlling the validation and revoking of keys. Likewise, former employees who do not return their key will no longer have access because their key can simply be removed from the system.
The system also provides operational benefits during air emergencies, as staff no longer need to locate the helipad key to access the pad. All authorised personnel can use their specific key to unlock the pad, which can prove vital when time is a factor in giving a patient life-saving care.
Colin McEwen, Design Lead - Estate Management, NHS Raigmore, said, “New legislation required connectivity of assets. Previously, when a key was lost, the only way to ensure security was maintained was to change our cylinders. eCLIQ has negated this, saving us money and time. We have set access to coincide with staff shift-patterns and any attempted access out of these times is revoked. The system has also made it easier to see who is accessing rooms.”
zones, meeting rooms and a gymnasium.
As part of the duty of care and responsibility to students and staff at Booth Hall, CFS Systems carried out a full risk assessment of the site to install the fire safety systems, with a nine-panel network and over 2000 devices.
CFS Systems selected Comelit-PAC’s fire safety solution, featuring a user friendly touch screen system, installing eight addressable panels, one per block and a new style repeater panel in the main reception area.
Finished in line with Comelit-PAC’s focus on aesthetics, its stylish design is fully networkable, with the opportunity to expand with a facility or building requirement.
