Artistar Jewels è l’evento annuale che promuove il gioiello contemporaneo a livello internazionale. Dal 2012 una vetrina importante per artisti affermati e un trampolino di lancio per i designer emergenti. Dal 23 al 26 febbraio 2017 partecipano alla quarta edizione 142 designer internazionali provenienti da oltre 30 Paesi. Forte presenza di designer provenienti da USA e Gran Bretagna, in crescita Romania e Paesi Bassi. Sono circa 400 le creazioni in mostra, la maggior parte delle quali inedite, il doppio rispetto all’anno precedente. Per la prima volta l’evento si svolge all’interno della prestigiosa cornice di Palazzo dei Giureconsulti di Milano durante la fashion week di febbraio

Questa edizione segna un aumento di iscritti +40% rispetto alla stessa edizione del 2016, un aumento così significativo non si era mai registrato prima. L’evento si arricchisce di nomi importanti, nuovi partner e ospita le straordinarie creazioni fuori concorso di tre protagonisti nel panorama dell’arte contemporanea. La serie di sette spille in argento in edizione limitata del critico d’arte Gillo Dorfles per San Lorenzo ; le creazioni firmate da uno dei più importanti progettisti italiani di gioielli GianCarlo Montebello ; i gioielli contemporanei di ricerca dell’artista orafo olandese Philip Sajet

Tutti i partecipanti presentano i loro lavori, pezzi unici o piccole serie, selezionati per l’alto valore artistico, per la sperimentazione tecnica e la ricerca stilistica. Arte, idea, design, innovazione, ricerca sono, infatti, il DNA di Artistar. Non gioielli necessariamente preziosi e tradizionali destinati a donne comme il faut, assolutamente distanti da mode effimere, ma Body Ornament fortemente evocativi, molto diversi per materiali utilizzati e tecniche impiegate, uniti dal fil rouge della narrazione di una storia, sempre presente in ogni creazione. In una società in cui nel mondo moda e del gioiello dominano i grandi brand possono rappresentare queste creazioni il vero lusso contemporaneo? Sì, se crediamo proprio alle parole di Gillo Dorfles quando afferma in La (nuova) moda della moda che “il vero lusso dovrebbe esprimersi nella opposizione alla serialità, al conformismo, a tutto ciò che è massificato e iterato”. Se è possibile rintracciare delle macro tendenze nelle creazioni proposte in questa edizione, certamente si devono rilevare la fusione, sempre più sentita, dell’artificiale e tecnologico con il naturale, le grandi dimensioni, il ritorno al colore oro con l’inserimento di forti accenti di colore, l’abbandono pressoché totale di geometrismi assoluti che lasciano spazio a forme più sinuose.

Artistar Jewels is the annual event that promotes the Contemporary Jewel at international level. Since 2012 it has been an important showcase for well-known artists and a springboard for emerging designers. From February 23rd to 26th, 2017, 142 international designers from over 30 countries will participate in the fourth edition. There will be a strong presence of designers from the USA and Great Britain, with an increase from Romania and the Netherlands. The exhibited creations amount to about 400 pieces; most of them are absolutely new, which means as much as twice compared with the previous year. For the first time the event will take place in the prestigious setting of Palazzo dei Giureconsulti in Milan during the fashion week in February. This edition shows an increase in subscribers of +40% compared to the same edition in 2016, a significant growth which has never been recorded before. The event, enhanced by important names and new partners, will host the extraordinary creations (out of competition) of three protagonists of the contemporary art scene. The series of seven silver brooches in a limited edition of the art critic Gillo Dorfles for San Lorenzo ; the creations signed by one of the most important Italian jewellery designers GianCarlo Montebello ; the contemporary research jewels of the Dutch goldsmith Philip Sajet

All participants will present their works, unique pieces or small series, selected according to their high artistic value, technical experimentation and stylistic research. Art, ideas, design, innovation, research are in fact the DNA of Artistar. Not necessarily precious and traditional jewels intended for comme il faut women, miles away from passing fads, but highly evocative Body Ornaments , varying much in materials and techniques, united by the common thread of a story narration, constantly present in every creation. In a society in which big brands dominate the world of fashion and jewel, can these creations represent the true contemporary luxury? Yes, if we believe Gillo Dorfles’ words when he says in La (nuova) moda della moda (The (new) fashion of fashion) that “the real luxury should express itself in the opposition to seriality, conformism and all that is standardized and iterated”.

If we are able to trace any macro trends in the creations proposed in this edition, we must certainly notice the increasing perceived fusion of the artificial and technological side with the natural one, the large sizes, the return to the gold colour with the inclusion of strong colour accents, the almost total abandonment of absolute geometric shapes that allow room for more sinuous shapes.

La giuria del contest si compone di nuovi volti: Elisabetta Barracchia , direttore di Vogue Accessory e direttore creativo moda di Vanity Fair; Maristella Campi , giornalista di moda; Bianca Cappello , storica e critica del gioiello; Gianni De Liguoro , socio fondatore e stilista del brand De Liguoro ; Guido Solari , fondatore e titolare della Scuola orafa Ambrosiana di Milano via Savona, 20; Liza Urla , una delle top jewellery blogger più famose e fondatrice di GEMOLOGUE.

I tre vincitori avranno l’opportunità di partecipare gratuitamente ad Artistar Jewels 2018 e diventare i protagonisti dei contenuti speciali del libro che sarà pubblicato nel 2018.

Altra importante novità è rappresentata dall’opportunità, per uno dei partecipanti, di collaborare con il brand di bijoux De Liguoro. Scelto direttamente dal fondatore e membro di giuria Giovanni De Liguoro che negli anni Ottanta ha collaborato con i brand più prestigiosi dell’alta moda Made in Italy da Trussardi ad Alberta Ferretti, l’artista potrà contribuire alla personalizzazione di un gioiello della maison che entrerà in produzione. Un’iniziativa volta a creare nuove sinergie e che rappresenta una perfetta sintesi tra tradizione e innovazione

Per un designer under 27 la Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana di Milano offrirà la partecipazione gratuita al corso di Oreficeria Professionale per apprendere tutte le tecniche più importanti di laboratorio realizzando diversi oggetti di oreficeria progettati dalla Scuola. Infine, per la prima volta, una selezione delle opere in mostra sarà ospitata presso prestigiose gallerie di settore: Spazio Espositivo Adiacenze di Amerigo Mariotti e Daniela Tozzi a Bologna, Creativity Oggetti di Susanna Maffini a Torino e Tiberius di Marcos Valenzuela a Vienna.

I numeri e l’ottimo riscontro di pubblico e stampa dimostrano che il settore del gioiello contemporaneo è in crescita, anche in Italia, grazie a importanti studi, mostre ed esposizioni in questi ultimi anni. Non dobbiamo dimenticare che il gioiello contemporaneo, a partire dagli anni Sessanta, è molto diffuso e valorizzato in Paesi quali Germania, Francia, Olanda, Inghilterra, Svizzera, Stati Uniti con musei e gallerie importanti che ospitano queste creazioni nelle loro esposizioni permanenti. As in the previous editions, the creations of the participants will be collected in a photographic shooting organized by Artistar. The selected still lifes will be published in the Artistar Jewels 2017 volume. The book, published by Logo Fausto Lupetti, is available in a national and international network: it is sold in all bookshops in Italy and in the major European capitals and is delivered to more than 5,000 professionals in the sector.

Here are the new entries of the contest jury: Elisabetta Barracchia , editor of Vogue Accessory and fashion creative director of Vanity Fair; Maristella Campi , fashion journalist; Bianca Cappello , jewel critic and historian; Gianni De Liguoro , founding partner and stylist of De Liguoro brand; Guido Solari , founder and owner of the Scuola orafa Ambrosiana di Milano, via Savona, 20; Liza Urla , one of the most famous jewellery bloggers and founder of GEMOLOGUE.

The three winners will have the chance of taking part for free to Artistar Jewels 2018 and become the protagonists of the special contents of the book which will be published in 2018. Another important novelty is represented by the opportunity for one of the participants to collaborate with the De Liguoro jewellery brand. Chosen directly by the founder and member of the jury John De Liguoro, who in the eighties collaborated with the most prestigious Made in Italy high-fashion brands, from Trussardi to Alberta Ferretti, the artist can help customize a jewel of the house that will enter production. An initiative to create new synergies which represents a perfect synthesis between tradition and innovation. A designer (under 27) will be offered by the Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana di Milano a free participation in the course of Professional Goldsmith to learn all the most important laboratory techniques and make various articles of goldsmiths designed by the Scuola. Finally and for the first time, a selection of the exhibited works will be hosted at prestigious galleries in the sector: Spazio Espositivo Adiacenze of Amerigo Mariotti and Daniela Tozzi in Bologna, Creativity Oggetti of Susanna Maffini in Turin and Tiberius of Marcos Valenzuela in Vienna.

The numbers and the excellent feedback from the public and the press clearly show that the field of contemporary jewel is growing, even in Italy, thanks to major studies, shows and exhibitions in recent years. We should not forget that the contemporary jewel, starting from the sixties, is widespread and appreciated in countries such as Germany, France, Holland, England, Switzerland, United States with important museums and galleries that host these creations in their permanent exhibitions. Creations & Authors

Diplomato in oreficeria a Monaco di Baviera, si trasferisce a Firenze, dove affina la propria arte sia come artigiano in uno storico laboratorio di Ponte Vecchio sia come modellista presso aziende orafe aretine. Dal 2005 progetta e realizza gioielli con metodi artigianali reinterpretando un’antica tecnica di fusione.

He graduated in goldsmithing in Munich and moved to Florence, where he refined his art both as a craftsman in an historic workshop of Ponte Vecchio and as modeler in some goldsmith companies in Arezzo. Since 2005 he has created jewelry with traditional methods by reinterpreting ancient casting technique.

Come un ludico ingranaggio cinetico di eccelsa maestria artigiana, tre esili anelli di bronzo e oro impreziositi da granati e brillanti si rincorrono dentro la gabbia d’argento creando un gioiello comodo da indossare.

The harmonious blend of geometric shapes suggests the archetypal images of circle squaring. As a playful kinetic gear of excellent craftsmanship, three small bronze and gold rings, embellished by garnets and diamonds, chase each other in the silver cage creating a comfortable jewel to be worn.

Una variazione sul tema presenta un unico anello che ruotando svela, lungo la sua orbita, zaffiri naturali di diverse gradazioni cromatiche in tre combinazioni cangianti come stati d’animo. Il prezioso nucleo d’oro satinato, lavorato a rilievo, si contrappone al profilo d’oro lucido del cubo esterno.

A variation on the theme features a unique rotating ring that reveals, in its orbit, natural sapphires of different shades in three iridescent combinations like moods. The precious core of satin gold, worked in relief, contrasts with the shiny golden profile of the external cube.

The heterogeneous texture of this band ring is composed by irregular geometric shapes. A gold insert stands out among the silver fragments characterized by winding organic lines derived from cuttlefish bone processing. The refined simplicity of the style is appreciated beyond gender difference.

Un elaborato mosaico di ventuno tessere d’argento e oro compone la superficie dell’involucro ovale. Suggestione artistica ispirata dalla naturale struttura globosa delle coccole dei cipressi che diviene simbolico omaggio al paesaggio della campagna toscana, fonte ricorrente nelle creazioni dell’artista.

It consists of an elaborate mosaic of twenty silver and gold pieces that makes up the oval casing surface. Evocative art inspired by the natural rounded structure of cypress cones that becomes a symbolic tribute to the Tuscan landscape, recurring source within the artist’s work.

Atelier Jamais è stato fondato nel 2014 da Rada Ureche, laureata in legge, senza aver nessun legame con il mondo artistico ma con un grande amore per i gioielli. Tutte le sue creazioni riflettono momenti di vita, desideri e sentimenti. Ogni gioiello le permette di scoprire nuovi mondi e nuove storie.

Atelier Jamais was founded in 2014, by Rada Ureche, a Law School Graduate, having no connection at all with the artistic field, but with a great love for jewellery. All her creations reflect moments in life, wishes and feelings. Each piece allows her to discover new worlds and new stories.

OCEAn

Creazione unica nel suo genere, evoca l’esistenza umana con tutto ciò che implica. Il caos creato dalla fusione dell’argento simboleggia le onde del mare, come la vita con i suoi alti e bassi, mentre il topazio blu sulla parte superiore è acqua limpida che ci riporta sempre in superficie.

This unique ring portraits our existence with everything that it implies. The “chaos” created by casting silver symbolizes the rough waves of the ocean, as an analogy to life with its ups and downs and the blue topaz on top is clear water that always manage to bring us to the surface.

Creato con la fusione ad acqua. È simile ad una foto, quella frazione di secondo in cui la goccia di pioggia colpisce la superficie dell’acqua, quando l’acqua calma e la goccia dinamica formano una singola forma che non è né ferma né dinamica. È una forma simile a qualcosa che sta nel mezzo.

This one of a kind ring is water casted. It is similar to a photo. It is about that split of a second where the perfect drop of rain hits the surface of the water. The final result is when the calm water and the dynamic drop form a single shape that is neither still nor dynamic. It’s a shape that is in between.

Gudbjorg Kristín

Ingvarsdóttir è il nome della fondatrice del marchio islandese Aurum by Gudbjorg. Ha studiato oreficeria e design del gioiello al Copenaghen Technical College e ha condotto il laboratorio orafo Au-Art di Copenaghen dal 1996 al 1999. Tornata poi in Islanda ha creato la società di gioielli Aurum.

Guðbjörg Kristín

Ingvarsdóttir is the name behind the Icelandic brand Aurum by Gudbjörg. She studied goldsmithing and jewellery design at Copenhagen Technical College and ran the jewellery workshop Au-Art in Copenhagen from 1996 to 1999. She then returned to Iceland and founded the design and jewellery firm Aurum.

Swan is majestic, with feathers that are soft as silk. The shapes of the Swan are aristocratic, incorporating softness and movement. Delicate threads and strong lines create a unified whole, inspired by Iceland’s nature. Feminine lines meet masculine strength, and together they create powerful yet flexible forms.

TuTTu

Necklace - Silver and hooves of Greenlandic reindeer

Trae origine dagli zoccoli di renna groenlandese e dall’argento. Il gioiello bianco e nero è morbido e leggermente increspato ma è anche appuntito e tagliente. Sulle superfici bianche e nere vi è una linea morbida che ci racconta una storia sulle avventure della renna.

Tuttu è il nome groenlandese della renna.

Tuttu comes from the hooves of Greenlandic reindeer and from silver. The black and white jewel is soft and slightly ruffled, yet also pointed and sharp.On the black and white textured surfaces you can detect a soft line that tells us a story about the reindeer’s adventures. Tuttu is the Greenlandic name of reindeer.

Concentra il suo interesse verso le forme naturali e la scienza, il suo intento è creare gioielli unici e facili da portare, illuminando chi li indossa in modo sottile. Utilizza alcuni dettagli, come l’aggiunta di composti chimici alla struttura, per richiamare le forme botaniche, fonte d’ispirazione del suo lavoro.

Drawing on interests in natural form and science

Kate seeks to create beautiful, wearable jewellery, which enlightens the wearer in subtle ways. She adds details, such as chemical compound structures, which relate to the botanical forms that inspire her work and their function in the wider world.

SunBuRST

Brooch - Oxidised silver, porcelain, paint

La creazione si ispira all’omonimo lichene e al suo pigmento giallo, la parietina. L’intento è di rappresentare le proprietà frangisole all’interno dei licheni utilizzando frammenti di porcellana per creare una superficie dall’aspetto naturale che contrasta con la base in argento ossidato.

Sunburst brooch is inspired by the lichen of the same name and its yellow pigment parietin. The brooch represents naturally occuring sunscreening properties within the lichen and uses cast porcelain fragments to create a natural looking surface which contrasts with the oxidised silver base.

FOLIO

Si ispira alle forme complesse delle specie di licheni fogliosi. Ogni forma è stata tagliata a mano e rifinita, poi messa insieme per creare una composizione unica. L’aggiunta alla struttura di composti chimici fa risaltare i diversi componenti dei licheni e la loro funzione nel mondo intero.

Folio brooch is inspired by complex forms found within foliose lichen species. Each shape has been hand cut and finished then placed to form a striking composition. The addition of the chemical compound structure highlights the different compounds found within lichen and their uses in the wider world.

Brooch - Silver, oxidised silver

È una designer e produttrice di gioielli russa che nel 2016 si è laureata nella lavorazione dell’argento e in design del gioiello presso la School of Art di Glasgow. Il suo lavoro è stato influenzato dalle idee di geometria distorta e di ripetizione, ispirate dall’ambiente ristretto degli spazi degli uffici.

Evgeniia Balashova is a Russian jewellery designer and manufacturer, who successfully graduated in Silversmithing and Jewellery design from the Glasgow School of Art in 2016. Her work is influenced by ideas of distorted geometry and repetition, inspired by strict environment of office spaces.

CC BROOCh

Brooch - 3D printed nylon, sterling silver

È una combinazione di elementi in nylon stampati in 3D con una cornice argentea. La parte in 3D è posta su una piattaforma rotante che permette di muoversi e aumentare la bellezza della luce che l’attraversa. CC è l’abbreviazione di Carbon Copying nelle mail, altro elemento ripetitivo della vita in ufficio.

CC Brooch is a combination of a 3D printed nylon element and a silver frame. The nylon 3D printed part is placed on a spinning platform that allows it to move to enhance the beauty of light passing through it. CC is an abbreviation for Carbon Copying in emails, another repetitive element of office life.

BuFFER BAngLE

Bracelet - Black rhodium plated sterling silver

È una combinazione di forme organiche fluenti e di una cornice geometrica. Questa contrapposizione di opposti, mostra un caos organizzato come l’ambiente di un ufficio. Gli elementi organici del pezzo sono stati riciclati dalle cerniere della tastiera del computer e sono stati poi ricoperti d’argento.

Buffer bangle is a combination of flowing organic shapes and a strict geometric frame. This juxtaposition of opposites shows organized chaos - typical environment of an office space. The organic elements of the piece are created from computer keyboard hinges which were recycled and cast in Sterling Silver.

Ha sempre sviluppato il suo lavoro partendo dall’idea di creare gioielli come pezzi di una storia da raccontare, emozioni, idee, esperienze, sogni e ricordi. Ama esplorare il lato emozionale del gioiello, la connessione con la parte più intima degli esseri umani o semplicemente con il loro aspetto infantile e giocoso.

She has always developed her work from the idea of conceiving jewels as pieces with a story to tell, emotions, ideas, experiences, dreams or memories. She loves exploring the emotional side of jewels, the connection with the most intimate part of human beings, or simply with their infantile and playful side.

This necklace is developed from the idea of life potential and how nature makes sure that it finds the way. The porcelain piece is the reproduction of a seed present in a tropical fruit whose form and details are suggestive and erotic ones. Life speaks and is present in every place.

Ha studiato Belle Arti, Architettura, Design e Illustrazione. All’inizio, ha lavorato come interior designer a New York, in Europa e in Asia e successivamente come illustratrice. Dieci anni fa è diventata un’artigiana del metallo e ha lanciato la sua linea di gioielli in metallo fatti a mano.

Michelle Chang studied fine art, architecture, design, and illustration. In her early days, she was an interior designer in NYC, Europe, and Asia. She worked as an illustrator In the second phase of her life. Ten years ago, she became a metalsmith and launched her own line of uniquely handmade, organic metal jewelry.

This piece is one of five earring variations in the RICE collection. This piece is one of four ring variations in the RICE collection. La memoria è un amico invisibile del tempo. Memory of Vacation tenta di conservare la memoria del suo viaggio in Nuova Zelanda, congelando quel ricordo. Forme diverse sono utilizzate per catturare ogni momento dei suoi sentimenti e i suoi gesti che mutano. Anche il modo di indossarlo mostra come i movimenti interagiscono con il suo abbigliamento.

Memory is an invisible friend of time. Memory of Vacation tries to keep the memory about her trip to New Zealand. Her work wants to freeze that memory. Different forms are used to capture each moment of her feelings and her changing gestures. Even the way of wearing shows how her movement interacts with her clothing.

Fortress Besieged si ispira ai sentimenti in merito alle ristrutturazioni nella sua città, Shanghai. “Shikumen”, un tipo di edificio in cui ha vissuto, è stato ormai rimpiazzato da grattacieli. Con rammarico non può fare a meno di dubitare se quella demolizione fosse necessaria. Il gioiello esprime la sua lotta interiore e la tristezza.

Fortress Besieged comes from her thoughts and feelings about renovations in her city, Shanghai. “Shikumen”, a type of building which she used to live in, has been replaced by high-rises. She cannot help but doubt, whether the demolition of Shikumen was necessary. This work shows her inner struggle and sadness.

Artistar Jewels, il progetto milanese volto a valorizzare e sostenere il gioiello contemporaneo a livello internazionale, giunge alla quarta edizione. Come ogni anno, sono stati raccolti e organizzati i diversi items proposti da artisti e jewel designer. Da anni l’evento si impegna ad assottigliare sempre più il confine tra Alta Gioielleria, Bigiotteria e Jewel Design, promuovendo le diverse forme espressive, volte a comunicare sé e l’ambiente che ci circonda.

Ogni anno viene indetto un contest con la finalità di selezionare tra tutti i partecipanti quelli che rappresentato al meglio la filosofia di Artistar Jewels. Per l’edizione 2016 i vincitori del concorso sono stati decretati da un pubblico di appassionati al settore che hanno comunicato la loro preferenza direttamente on line.

I gioielli premiati da Artistar Jewels rappresentano il tempo reale, con una forte connotazione contingente e transitoria, che prende corpo attraverso la creatività e l’estetica stessa. I vincitori dell’edizione 2016 sono:

Artefatto Gioielli è un progetto curato dai fratelli Donadeo, amanti del Made in Italy e della tradizione orafa italiana. Il loro gioiello è a tutti gli effetti un ornamento ma con una componente storicaculturale. L’anello vincitore si rifà al mito di Persefone, dove il frutto di melograno è simbolo di fecondità, unione e solidarietà, un monile che esprime la vanitas dell’uomo, sia in senso estetico sia intellettuale.

Artisticalmente di Leonardi Emanuele ha una formazione artistica, legata all’interior design, all’Architettura e all’oreficeria. I suoi monili sono delle microsculture, per questo hanno una chiara componente estetica artistica-scultorea. Il gioiello è inteso come piccola opera d’arte da indossare, summa delle diverse discipline. I suoi jewels sono portabili nonostante abbiano una forte carica espressiva-figurativa, grazie al “racconto che portano in sé”.

Angela Malhües Torres, la designer cilena-spagnola ha studiato alla Scuola Llotja, con un indirizzo in Progettazione-Design e Arti Visive del Gioiello Artistico; la sua storia e città Natale le hanno fornito un particolare imprinting artistico: nel suo gioiello abbiamo dei forti riferimenti alla sua Terra, con un’attenta riflessione sociale sulla famiglia e sulla figura femminile. La collana ha un potere simbolico, enfatizzato dalla forma scultorea e dall’utilizzo di materiali di riciclo.

As every year, it includes all the items submitted by artists and jewel designers, collected and organized by Artistar Jewels. The event has been active for many years now and is committed to reduce the boundaries between High Jewelry, Fashion Jewelry and Jewel Design, through the promotion of the different styles that express the environment.

Every year the jewels which better represent the concept of Artistar Jewels are selected through a contest. In 2016 the winners were chosen by people passionate about contemporary jewels who voted online.

The jewels awarded by Artistar Jewels represent the reality, with strong contingent and transient features that were depicted using creativity and beauty. The 2016 edition winners are:

Artefatto Gioielli is a project by Donadeo brothers, Made in Italy and italian goldsmithing tradition lovers. Their jewel is an ornament with a historical and cultural content. The winning piece is inspired by Persephone’s myth, in which the pomegranate fruit symbolize fecundity, union and solidarity. Their ring is a jewel that expresses men’s vanitas, either aesthetic and intellectual.

Artisticalmente di Leonardi Emanuele has an artistic education, related to interior design, Architecture and goldsmithing. His jewels are miniaturized sculptures and have a strong artistic-sculptural aesthetic feature. The jewel is a small artwork aimed to be worn, summa of the different disciplines. His jewels, even with their powerful expressive-figurative content, can be worn thanks to the “story they encompass“

Angela Malhües Torres, the Chilean-Spanish designer studied Design and Visual Arts of the Artistic Jewel at Scuola Llotja. Her story and birthplace gave her a strong artistic imprinting: her jewel has an intense connection with her Land, with a careful consideration on the family and the female character. The neckpiece has a symbolic energy enhanced by the sculptural shape and by the usage of recycled materials.

For the fourth edition of the contest, year 2017, Artistar Jewels decided to make a few steps forward. The winners will be selected by a jury made of bijou and contemporary jewels experts: Elisabetta Barracchia (Editor in chief of Vogue Accessory and Creative Director

La valutazione per il 2017 è quindi ancora più qualitativa, non passerà esclusivamente dal giudizio popolare che tende a dare più un valore estetico-soggettivo. Avendo personalità di spicco del settore del gioiello, questa volta, gli artisti verranno selezionati attraverso un’analisi acuta e attenta, che valuterà diversi aspetti come le tendenze, i materiali utilizzati, la tecnica di sviluppo e/o produttiva, l’originalità, la vestibilità o l’emozionalità di un prezioso.

Artistar Jewels vuole sostenere i nuovi jewel designer e per questo, mette in palio premi volti a valorizzare il talento; la giuria quindi selezionerà: tre artisti che parteciperanno gratuitamente ad Artistar Jewels 2018; un artista che personalizzerà un gioiello della maison De Liguoro che entrerà in produzione; un giovane designer under 27 che parteciperà gratuitamente al corso di Oreficeria Professionale messo in palio dalla Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana di Milano. Oltre ai 5 artisti selezionati verranno scelti trenta gioielli che parteciperanno ad una mostra itinerante che vedrà coinvolte tre gallerie internazionali: Spazio Espositivo Adiacenze di Amerigo Mariotti e Daniela Tozzi a Bologna, Creativity Oggetti di Susanna Maffini a Torino e Tiberius di Marcos Valenzuela a Vienna.

Artistar Jewels wants to support the emerging jewel designers and for this reason the awards’ goal is to enhance the talent; the jury will select: three artists that will participate for free in Artistar Jewels 2018; one artist that will collaborate with De Liguoro brand in the personalization of a jewel; a young under 27 designer that will participate for free in the Professional Goldsmithing Course of Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana of Milan. Progetto nato dalla passione di due fratelli che, dopo essersi formati al Tarì di Caserta e maturato la propria esperienza professionale in botteghe di grande tradizione a Vicenza, decidono di ritornare in Puglia e aprire un laboratorio orafo artigiano a Lecce, dove coniugano vecchie tradizioni e moderno design.

This project was born from the passion of two brothers who, after having studied at Tarì school in Caserta and developed their professional experience within high -tradition studios in Vicenza, decided to go back to Puglia to establish a goldsmith workshop in Lecce, where they combine old traditions and modern design.

Bracciale realizzato in argento, con l’applicazione di un inserto in cuoio. La struttura in argento termina con un bottone con logo traforato, che funge da chiusura, al quale si aggancia la parte terminale del cuoio che funge da asola. Le due parti si legano una all’altra formando un unico pezzo.

The bracelet is made of silver with a leather section. The silver structure ends with a botton decorated with a pierced logo, the clasp to which the final part of the leather, which works as a bottonhole, is hooked. The two parts are linked to each other, and form a unique piece.

This piece consists of an image sequence of a man who at first is intrigued and then eager to possess an object and jumps to grab it. Finally the sad result: He breaks it and loses it. It is essential to understand when it is the right time to stop and not to turn the wish into the void.

It is a sculpture jewel, depicting a woman with a bowed head going with her children, some of them live the adventure, others the fatigue, others the abandonment of their homeland, no one is left alone. It is inspired by Istrian exodus stories, those who were children and those who were Moms.

Artistar Jewels 2016 - Contest Winner

Marilena Todde, dopo la scuola orafa e dopo aver fatto esperienza in alcuni laboratori della città, nel ‘98 crea la sua linea di gioielli Fior di Loto. Ispirata dalla passione per la ricerca, l’amore per la Natura e le sue bellezze, realizza gioielli che sono un concentrato di creatività pura.

Marilena Todd attended a goldsmith school and gained experience in some local workshops. In 1998 she founded her own label of jewelry, called Fiori di Loto. She is inspired by passion for research, love for nature and its beauty, creating jewelry that is a mix of pure creativity.

The Nereids in ancient Greek myths were nymphs. Spirits that represented the different faces of water. The flow of a river or the vastness of the sea. “Real myrtles on mineral rocks”. These one of a kind asymmetric earrings are made up of a lobe with one amethyst stone and a pendant earring which reminds the shape of a myrtle branch with its purple fruits. They have been hand drawn and then created with molded gold plated silver.

“Trasformazione di forme in cerchi quadrati”. Il designer come un antico alchimista manipola e muta gli elementi in monili unici e simbolici tramite il proprio estro e maestria. I quattro anelli in ottone sono stati creati con la tecnica di fusione a cera persa. Successivamente sono stati incastonate le diverse pietre.

“Shapes transformation into squared circles”. The designer, like an ancient alchemist, changes the elements into unique and symbolic jewels thanks to his inspiration and mastery. The brass rings have been created with the lost-wax casting technique and subsequently have been decorated with the different stones.

Gillo Dorfles nasce nel 1910 a Trieste dove ha vissuto tutta la sua infanzia e trascorso buona parte della sua vita. Critico d’arte, pittore e filosofo di grande spessore e profondità di pensiero e di conoscenza, già ordinario di Estetica all’Università di Trieste e di Milano e visiting professor in America, è oggi una delle personalità  più eminenti della cultura europea. Nel 1948 fu, quale pittore, tra i fondatori del MAC (Movimento per l’Arte Concreta). Notevolissimo è stato il suo contributo allo sviluppo dell’estetica italiana del dopoguerra, dal Discorso tecnico delle arti del 1952 fino a Il Kitsch. Antologia del cattivo gusto (Mazzotta,1967). Non solo critico d’arte, studioso di fenomeni del costume e saggista, ma anche artista di vaglia in prima persona, nel 2001 è stato protagonista di una importante antologica allestita al Pac (Padiglione di arte contemporanea) di Milano, che ha avuto grandissimo successo. Nel 2009 realizza per San Lorenzo la collezione 7 spille-pendentif.

Gillo Dorfles was born in 1910 in Trieste where he spent all his childhood and a good part of his life. Art critic, painter and philosopher of great worth and depth of thought and knowledge, former Professor of aesthetics at the University of Trieste and Milan and visiting professor in the United States, he is today one of the most eminent personalities in the European culture. In 1948, as a painter, he was one of the founders of MAC (Concrete Art Movement). Remarkable was his contribution to the development of the post-war Italian aesthetics, from the Discorso tecnico delle arti (Technical Speech about Arts) of 1952 up to Il Kitsch. Antologia del cattivo gusto (Kitsch. An Anthology of Bad Taste) (Mazzotta,1967). Not just an art critic, scholar of social phenomena and essayist, but also an outstanding artist himself, in 2001 he was involved in a major retrospective exhibition at PAC (Pavilion of Contemporary Art) in Milan, which met with enormous success. In 2009 he created the collection of 7 pendant brooches for San Lorenzo.

Sette grandi spille/pendenti in argento di gillo Dorfles per San Lorenzo - 2009

Le spille di Gillo Dorfles per San Lorenzo sono realizzate in argento 925/°°° mediante fusione a cera persa ed ulteriori interventi manuali di adeguamento al progetto che hanno riguardato tutte le fasi della lavorazione dal trattamento delle superfici alla finitura e lucidatura.

La trasposizione del segno grafico nell’argento è stata oggetto di speciali attenzioni ed il risultato rivela la sensibilità degli interventi.

La fluidità della fusione d’argento corsa con leggeri, plastici rilievi nel sensibile calco liberato dalla cera del modello, alla prova dei fatti ha assecondato l’ispirazione artistica.

Grazie allo scambio di osservazioni e quindi ai continui perfezionamenti dei prototipi, grazie alle attente rifiniture delle fusioni appare eloquente come intuizione e processo costruttivo siano stati ricomposti in unità.

Risulta con forza la ricchezza del linguaggio espressivo nella nobiltà del materiale che ne fa da tramite.

Le “spille” sono firmate e numerate per una esecuzione fino a 99 esemplari di ogni soggetto e conseguente distruzione delle attrezzature.

Le spille sono state esposte nella Mostra “Gillo Dorfles –L’avanguardia tradita” a cura di Luigi Sansone, tenuta a Palazzo Reale, Milano dal 26 febbraio al 23 maggio 2010. Questi gioielli sono da considerarsi come una delle realizzazioni che scaturiscono dagli assunti teorici del Movimento Arte Concreta (MAC) che ha avuto Dorfles tra i fondatori. Tema centrale per il MAC è infatti la sintesi delle arti, un effettivo rinnovamento del gusto alla luce della interdisciplinarità, fondendo in un unico corpo pittura, scultura, design, architettura, grafica.

Inoltre le spille sono state esposte nella Mostra “Gillo Dorfles arte concreta 1947-1958” tenuta al M.A.X. Museo, Chiasso dal 16 settembre al 22 novembre 2010 e nel 2015 all’interno della Mostra “Gillo Dorfles essere nel tempo” al MACRO Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma, a cura di Achille Bonito Oliva.

Seven big silver brooches/ pendants by gillo Dorfles for San Lorenzo - 2009

The silver 925 / °°° brooches by Gillo Dorfles for San Lorenzo were createad using the lost-wax casting method and were further manually adjusted throughout all the production stages, from surface treatment to finishing and polishing.

The transposition of the graphic sign into the silver received particular attention and the result shows the sensitivity of the interventions.

In fact the fluidity of the silver fusion with light and plastic reliefs in the sensitive mould released from the model wax proved to support the artistic inspiration.

Thanks to the exchange of remarks and therefore to the continuous enhancements of the prototypes and because of the careful finishes of the fusions, it is revealing how intuition and construction process were recomposed in unities.

The powerful richness of expressive language appears in the nobility of the material that acts as an intermediary.

The “brooches” are signed and numbered in order to make a maximum of 99 copies of each subject and then destroy the equipment.

They were displayed in the Exhibition “Gillo Dorfles – L’avanguardia tradita” curated by Luigi Sansone and held at Palazzo Reale, Milan, from February 26 to May 23, 2010.

These jewels are to be considered among the works deriving from the theoretical assumptions of the Concrete Art Movement (MAC) of which Dorfles was one of the founders.

The MAC central topic is in fact a synthesis of the arts, a real renewal of taste in the light of interdisciplinarity, merging painting, sculpture, design, architecture and graphic into a single body.

The brooches were also displayed at the Exhibition “Gillo Dorfles arte concreta 1947-1958” which was held at M.A.X. Museo, in Chiasso, from September 16 to November 22, 2010 and in 2015 at the Exhibition “Gillo Dorfles essere nel tempo” which was held at MACRO Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva.

GianCarlo Montebello è nato a Milano. Nel 1967con la sigla GEM diventa editore di gioielli d’artista quali: Sonia Delaunay, Lucio Fontana, Man Ray e Niki de Saint Phalle. Nel 1978 inizia l’attività di designer e partecipa alla costituzione del Dipartimento di oreficeria dello IED di Milano. È invitato con il suo lavoro alle esposizioni The Italian Metamorphosis al Guggenheim Museum di New York (1993) e New Times,New Thinking jewellery in Europe and America tenutasi al Craft Council Gallery di Londra (1996).

GianCarlo Montebello was born in Milan. In 1967 founded GEM and became editor of artists’ jewels such as: Sonia Delaunay, Lucio Fontana, Man Ray and Niki de Saint Phalle. In 1978, he began the designer activity and took part in the creation of the Department of Jewelry at Milan’s European Institute of Design. È la neve la grande ispiratrice di Philip Sajet, il designer olandese che da quando la vide per la prima volta cadere sui tetti di Amsterdam, decise di fare gioielli che tentassero di ricreare quella sfuggente bellezza. Artista, designer e ricercatore, Sajet crea classic contemporary jewellery mixando forme tradizionali, rigore tecnico e materiali non convenzionali. Su montature classiche finti diamanti “nascono” da pezzi di vetro e pietre senza valore. Non è la spasmodica ricerca del nuovo a rendere questi gioielli contemporanei, ma la loro autenticità.

Nato e cresciuto ad Amsterdam in Olanda, dopo aver frequentato la Gerrit Rietveld Academie, viene selezionato per un tirocinio a Padova, sotto la guida del maestro orafo Francesco Pavan. Negli anni è stato invitato come lecturer da numerose università e college di design: dal Royal College of Art di Londra alla Shenkar College di Tel Aviv, dalla Accademia Alchimia di Firenze alla Rhode Island School of Design di Providence. Ha esposto le sue creazioni in tutta Europa, in USA e in Giappone collezionando molti premi tanto che,

Snow is the great inspiration of Philip Sajet, the Dutch designer: since the first time he saw it falling on the roofs of Amsterdam, he decided to make jewels that tried to re-create that elusive beauty. Artist, designer and researcher, Sajet creates classic contemporary jewellery mixing traditional forms, technical rigour and unconventional materials. Fake diamonds “stem” from pieces of glass and worthless stones on classical frames. It is not the frantic search for the new that makes these jewels contemporary, but their authenticity.

Born and raised in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, after attending the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, he was selected for an apprenticeship in Padua, under the guidance of the master goldsmith Francesco Pavan. Over the years he was invited as lecturer by many universities and design colleges: from the Royal College of Art of London to the Shenkar College of Tel Aviv, from the Accademia Alchimia of Florence to the Rhode Island School of Design of Providence. Da sempre indossati come simboli del potere o di ricchezza personale, con Philip Sajet i gioielli si impossessano di nuovo del loro significato etimologico: “jocus” che in latino significa gioia. Ai gioielli più classici - agli anelli con diamante per esempiosuccedono “strane cose”: il designer-fumettista li caricaturizza ridisegnando i contorni delle montature più tradizionali o delle gemme più preziose, traducendo forme e bagliori secondo la sua personale visione. Tutto è concesso, l’importante è stupire. “Liberati” dal loro artista-creatore, sono gioielli da indossare. Solo portandoli potranno fondersi con la personalità di chi li possiede e attirare l’attenzione di chi guarda. E non è un caso che Sajet crei prevalentemente anelli, orecchini e collane. Sono infatti le mani ed il viso le parti del corpo che ci mettono in contatto con gli altri, esprimendo la nostra personalità e sottolineano la nostra natura. Secondo Sajet i gioielli devono esprimere la personalità del singolo individuo, non la filosofia di un brand.

he collected so many awards to be considered today one of the most famous and skilled master goldsmiths of Europe.

Always worn as symbols of power or personal wealth, with Philip Sajet jewels recover their etymological meaning: “jocus”, the Latin word for joy. “Strange things” happen to the most classical jewels, for example to the diamond rings: the designer-cartoonist makes a caricature of them and redesign the profile of the most traditional frames or the most precious gems, translating shapes and glows according to his personal vision. Anything is possible, the crucial thing is to impress. “Freed” from their artist-creator, these are jewels to be worn. Only then will they merge with their owners’ personality and attract the viewers’ attention. And it is no coincidence that Sajet creates mainly rings, earrings and necklaces. Hands and face are indeed the parts of the body that put us in touch with other persons, expressing our personality and underlining our nature. According to Sajet, jewels must express the personality of the individual, not the philosophy of a brand.

Since her childhood, she was attracted by the world of precious stones to which she dedicated her first creations. The tangle of branches, brambles and leaves, although elegant and meticulous, are the basis of the structure of the nature. The nature, with its great strenght, grows in its majesty, knoting to itself the disordered grace with the perfection of the crystals, while a gleam of the sunset paints it gold.

Il movimento creato dall’arrotolarsi e srotolarsi che si succedono in un incessante fluire, vuole rappresentare le alghe dei laghi che, silenti, sospinte di grande impeto dalle correnti, corteggiano perle bianche, presuntuose e vezzose, che cercano la luce che filtra come oro dalla superficie.

The movement created by the endless rolling and unrolling of the lakeweeds represents their flow. They are silently pushed by the strenght of the currents and court conceited and charming white pearls which look for the gold-looking light filtering through the surface.

Ha lavorato nel settore della pubblicità online per più di nove anni, mentre la sua passione per le costruzioni e la moda erano solo un hobby. Nata in Libano, si trasferisce poi a Milano per il Master in Fashion Design. La caratteristica del lavoro di Mona Mohanna è quella di coniugare in modo nuovo e creativo lavorazioni e i tessuti tradizionali di paesi del Medio Oriente e dell’Asia, con le esigenze delle donne occidentali.

She was born in Lebanon, then she moved to Milan in order to attend the Master Degree in Fashion Design. Mona Mohanna’s work is characterized by a unique combination of the Middle East traditional tissues and processes with the western woman taste.

Interamente realizzati a mano con il lavoro di otto persone. I materiali provengono da quatto paesi diversi: Italia (design e montaggio, manufatti in rame e resine), Siria (filo di seta), Libano (ricamo filigrana) e Marocco (bottoncini di seta vegetale). Ogni passaggio va ad arricchire e a completare l’oggetto.

These earrings are handcrafted thanks to the the work of eight people. The materials come from four different countries: Italy (design and assembly, copper and resin elements), Syria (silk thread), Lebanon (filigree embroidery) and Morocco (small buttons of vegetable silk). Each step enriches and completes this jewel.

Riprende gli elementi che ricordano i disegni dei luoghi arabi, ricamata interamente a mano, ogni decoro è intervallato con piccoli vetri cangianti sul viola, infine galvanizzata color oro. Gli elementi che si susseguono sono di tre misure diverse e mettono in risalto l’alternarsi dei colori dei fili.

This necklace evokes elements of Arab places’ designs and it has been embroidered entirely by hand. All adornments are spaced out with small iridescent purple glass and finally galvanized with gold colour. The elements that follow are made of three different size highlighting the alternation of thread colours.

He was born and raised in Milan, the fashion and design capital where he still works. This piece depicts the gradual descent of the majestic King Lear into madness, giving up his kingdom by allowing his vanity to cloud his judgment. Life takes us down the path of unbearable dark emotional pain. This is the moment we face the masks of our ego, the deepest fear, we are separate from love.

She came under influence of modernist art and design while studying arts in Washington D.C. She pursued with jewelry design at British Higher School of Art and Design in Moscow. Accentuated by enamel her designs transform the shapes of nature into wearable objects to deliver an organic modernist message.

Quali sono queste forme? Le mani, le radici degli alberi, l’intreccio di motivi di foglie. Il corallo dentellato e le forme dei rami di rame nativo raccontano di forme naturali incantevoli ed eterne. I rami giustapposti trasmettono l’idea di un’individualità elaborata da manifestare.

What are these shapes? Hands, roots of the trees, interlocking foliage patterns. The jaggedness of coral and the instinctive shapes of native copper branches quietly assert the mesmerizing natural forms of the eternal nature. The juxtaposed twigs convey the idea of an elaborate individuality to declare.

The message of Natural Affinity is to reveal the emotional affinity between a person and our nature. Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s modernist imaginary, this ring represents the entity of nature which is closer to us than we often think. Filled with joy, vibrant colour and fully alive like a happy life should be.

Nata a Sciacca, studia a Milano e Roma specializzandosi in oreficeria, modellazione e microfusione a cera persa. I suoi gioielli sono ispirati a ciò che la circonda: natura, architettura, tradizioni della sua Sicilia. Combinando l’arte orafa con nuove tecniche e materiali; cerca di conferire a ogni gioiello un’anima.

Born in Sciacca, she studied in Milan and Rome, specializing in goldsmithing, modeling and lost-wax casting. Her jewels are inspired by what surrounds her: nature, architecture and Sicilian traditions. By combining the art of goldsmithing with new techniques and materials, she tries to give each jewel a soul.

SPuMA DI MARE

Brooch - Silver, paper, resin, gold acrylic paint

Ispirata alle onde in burrasca che s’infrangono tra gli scogli. Ha trasformato un semplice foglio di carta, rendendolo qualcosa di prezioso e artistico, attraverso la sola abilità delle mani: una scultura origami, poi resinata. Ha dipinto la base della spilla d’oro come i raggi del sole che si riflettono sulla spuma.

This piece is inspired by the stormy waves crashing into the rocks. She has transformed a simple sheet of paper, making it something precious and artistic, through her hand ability: an origami sculpture, then treated with resin. She painted the base of the golden brooch like sun’s rays reflecting on the foam.

Earrings - Silver, resin, plastic micro balls, diamonds

I diversi materiali utilizzati in questa creazione, sembrano invertiti: ciò che è prezioso non lo sembra e ciò che invece non lo è, lo sembra. Sono realizzati in argento ossidato, diamanti e arricchiti dall’applicazione di micropalline di plastica bagnate in oro zecchino. Per chi ama il prezioso ma senza ostentarlo.

The different materials used for this piece, seem reversed: what is precious does not look like as it is in reality and what is not, seems really valuable. They are made of oxidized silver, diamonds and enriched by wet plastic golden micro balls. For those who love precious jewels without any ostentation.

Nata in Turchia, si è laureata presso l’Università di Gazi, Dipartimento di Architettura. Ha studiato Design di Calzature e Accessori alla Istanbul Moda Academy, corso in collaborazione con l’University of the Arts London. Ha realizzato il suo sogno aprendo il suo studio di gioielli contemporanei: Studio Zigzag.

She was born in Turkey and graduated at Gazi University, Department of Architecture. She studied Footwear and Accessories Design Program at Istanbul Moda Academy in partnership with the University of the Arts London. To make her dreams come true, she set up her contemporary jewelry studio, “Studio Zigzag”.

Three in One is the brooch from the “Kanavice Series”. Kanavice is a kind of traditional embroidery, which is generally cross-stitched to express feelings and telling stories. The elements of nature, most often flowers are stylized as Kanavice Patterns and each element symbolizes different feelings.

Col passare del tempo i mezzi di espressione sono cambiati e ciò ha fatto dimenticare il tradizionale ricamo Kanavice. L’artista reinterpreta l’antico ricamo con i fiori stilizzati e crea la sua storia utilizzando questa forma di espressione per la Serie Kanavice e la collana All in One.

As time passes the means of expression have changed and this makes traditional Kanavice (canvas) embroidery fall into oblivion. She reinterprets Kanavice Embroidery & stylized flowers and creates her own story by using this traditional way of expression within Kanavice Series & All in One necklace.

L’artista si ispira al patrimonio culturale e alla geografia in cui vive. Sperimenta materiali e tecniche di produzione unendo i contrasti: est e ovest, locale e globale, tradizionale e moderno. Questa collana è la trasformazione di questi contrasti all’interno di una nuova storia che le appartiene.

She is inspired by cultural heritage and geography she lives in. She experiences the materials and production techniques by blending contrasts: the east and the west, the local and the global, the traditional and the modern. This necklace is the transformation of these contrasts into a new story that belongs to her.

Appartiene alla collezione Kanavice. Durante la creazione di questa collezione si è interrogata sul concetto di prezioso e come donare preziosità ai suoi gioielli. Questo ha reso possibile reinterpretare la collana classica utilizzando bottiglie di plastica riciclata e colorata per realizzare i fiori.

Necklace from the Kanavice Series. During the creation of this series she has also questioned about the precious concept and how to create preciousness in jewelry. This questioning makes her reinterpret the classical necklace and recreate it by using re-cycled & colored plastic bottles for Kanavice flowers.
