Milano Jewelry Week has become a key event in the industry. What are the must-attend highlights of this year?
Enzo Carbone: Milano Jewelry Week is a celebration of both tradition and innovation in the world of jewelry. This year, there are four unmissable events. Artistar Jewels (AJ) remains the cornerstone of the week, showcasing unique, artistic jewelry from emerging and established designers worldwide.
The Jewelry Hub (HUB) is a space for networking and promoting high-end jewelry collections, ideal for brands and professionals seeking new opportunities. The Talent Show shines a spotlight on young, upcoming designers from top international schools, offering them a platform to present fresh ideas.
Lastly, our Experiential Journeys include private events where guests can immerse themselves in the world of craftsmanship and design. These events, combined with the vernissages and the highly anticipated Awarding Night, a magical evening on the 16th at Teatro Lirico Gaber, where over 30 awards will be given, truly define the spirit of Milano Jewelry Week. Each moment is designed to celebrate creativity, innovation, and the extraordinary people behind the art of jewelry.
Interview with Enzo Carbone CEO of Prodes Italia
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Artistar Jewels. Can you share the significance of this milestone?
Enzo Carbone: In 2012, Daniele Lupetti, our publisher, handed me a book full of jewelry designs, and I was immediately captivated. Those sketches, photos, and stories reflected a unique artistry that deserved more visibility. That's when I realized the potential to promote jewelry as an art form and give emerging designers a platform. Barbara, who still works with us at Prodes Italia, joined me in this vision, and together we launched Artistar Jewels. Now, 10 editions later, it's incred-
ible to look back at how far we've come. Every edition has been a learning experience, but it’s also been an opportunity to grow artistically and strategically, always adapting to the times. This milestone belongs to everyone who believed in the project—the artists, the Prodes Italia team, our partners, sponsors, friends, family, and my wife, who has been an invaluable talent scout and supporter from the start. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped shape Artistar Jewels.
Looking ahead, what can we expect from the 5th edition of Milano Jewelry Week?
Enzo Carbone: We will continue to focus on what defines us: internationality, quality over quantity, and catering to the needs of industry professionals. However, we are always evolving. For the 5th edition, we aim to stay at the forefront of trends and respond
to the ever-changing market. We’re working on exciting new features and partnerships, which will be revealed soon. The goal is to continue creating a platform that serves the jewelry industry while inspiring creativity and innovation.
Interview with CNA
As one of the pillars of Italian goldsmithing, what are the main challenges you face?
Thank you for considering us a pillar. The Italian goldsmith system has many components, including Confindustria Federorafi, Compartigianato, and CNA. As CNA, we represent around 2,400 members. Post-COVID, we saw a market rebound, but the war has slowed progress. Yet, we remain optimistic, especially for companies involved in exports. Though we've lost markets like Russia and Israel, trade continues through complex channels.
What are your expectations for Milano Jewelry Week?
MJW is a great opportunity to gain visibility. It showcases smaller, independent producers—those who craft and sell their own jewelry directly to customers. It's a crucial platform for the future of our industry.
Why is Milan the perfect location for MJW?
Milan is Italy’s hub for design, fashion, and finance. It's a central, avant-garde city, making it the ideal place for an event like MJW.
EMPOWERING ARTISANS AND SHAPING THE FUTURE OF ITALIAN JEWELRY
Do you believe artisans receive the recognition they deserve in local and international markets?
No, they don't. Many artisans lack the visibility they deserve, despite their essential contributions to the industry. Our focus is on generational transition—passing down vital skills to ensure that craftsmanship endures.
Foreign markets are essential in goldsmithing. How does CNA approach internationalization?
CNA does its best to support members in tackling this critical issue. Our system works for both small and large brands. Many of our members contribute to major international brands like Bulgari and Cartier, which drive our sector's success. I often compare the goldsmithing industry to an iceberg. Big brands are the visible tip, but below, it's the artisans that provide the foundation. Without them, the industry wouldn’t survive.
NURTURING ETHICS, CRAFTSMANSHIP, AND THE FUTURE OF ITALIAN JEWELRY
How does Assogemme promote ethical practices in the gemstone industry?
Assogemme actively addresses the link between gems and ethics, promoting socially responsible extraction. Through seminars and debates, prominent speakers like Giampiero Bodino and Guido Grassi Damiani have contributed their insights. Assogemme also created the Ethical Committee for Colored Stones, which includes brands like Damiani, Pasquale Bruni, and Buccellati, and key gemstone traders.
Why is Milan the right place for MJW?
Milan is the international heart of Italy and the home of Italian design. It’s the perfect location for Milano Jewelry Week, where creativity and craftsmanship come together.
Interview with ASSOGEMME
Can you tell us about Assogemme and its mission?
Assogemme is Italy’s national organization representing companies in the jewelry sector, from gemstones and diamonds to coral. It promotes corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability in the industry, working on responsible sourcing initiatives. Assogemme partners with CIBJO, IGI Milan, and Fondazione Mani Intelligenti to nurture gemological culture and craftsmanship.
How important is training for young talent?
Training is crucial for the future of the industry. Assogemme collaborates with Fondazione Mani Intelligenti to support the next generation of artisans. Italy’s "Made in Italy" jewelry is recognized globally, and there is increasing demand for young goldsmiths and setters.
What does MJW represent for Assogemme?
Milano Jewelry Week, founded by Enzo Carbone, is a fantastic opportunity to engage the next generation of designers and artisans. Assogemme is proud to support this important initiative.
Interview with Laura Inghirami Founder of donna jewel
SUPPORTING EMERGING TALENTS IN JEWELRY INDUSTRY
Donna Jewel has become an influential platform to promote new talent in jewelry industry. What advice would you give young designers looking to stand out in this market?
My advice is to prioritize education, which I believe is the key element. Today, having the right skills and a solid cultural foundation is essential to stand out and interpret jewelry with an innovative perspective. It's also crucial to specialize and build a strong personal identity. This is why Donna Jewel has evolved into a consultancy company, offering tailor-made strategy and marketing services to help talents and companies position themselves in the market with a fresh outlook
You’ve been involved with MJW since its inception. How have you seen the event evolve, and how does it support emerging creativity and craftsmanship?
Milano Jewelry Week has grown tremendously, bringing more international artists to Milan each year and fostering cultural exchange. I’ve also witnessed the progress of the talents I’ve awarded, highlighting the event’s importance in their careers.
As a judge for the BEST IN CREATIVITY award, what do you consider fundamental when in a design that stands out for originality and innovation?
When judging, I always assess technical aspects, which are important, but then I let the emotion a piece evokes speak for itself. Jewelry is an art form, and a piece must create a deep connection. The BEST IN CREATIVITY award not only highlights talent but also invites us to appreciate beauty. Those who work with jewelry have the role of giving value to beauty and culture, passing it on to the world.
The Jewelry HUB is a one-of-a-kind event in Milan, where for four exclusive days, the city will host temporary shops from 70 brands hailing from all over the world. 17. Vincent Vintage Bijoux
Via Lazzaro Spallanzani, 11, 20129 Milano MI
Dates: 15/19 Oct. | 10 am/1 pm - 3:30 pm/7:30 pm
EXHIBITION | The word "ricordare", from the Latin "recordis", literally means "to pass through the heart". And what passes and repasses through the heart more than a pendant that swings, perhaps with the image of someone who is no longer with us? It is precisely the emotion of the memory itself, the central point of the dialogue between Ilaria Demo De Lorenzi, a multi-disciplinary artist, and Vincent, a lover of old-fashioned jewelry. The author's work comes to life precisely at the moment in which life ends and leaves us memories: animal bones, insects and withered flowers are transformed into precious objects expressing the concept of evolution and continuity. Retracing the Victorian tradition of mourning jewelry, amulets carrying indelible feelings,
these unique pieces show us the collective memory of nature and its life cycle. It is here, in a delightful wunderkammer, that the past and the present listen to each other, talk to each other and unite. In this timeless atmosphere, the installation celebrates the importance of memory and its materiality as a tool for resilience. With grace, slowness, and the right amount of nostalgia.
