EDITOR’S LETTER 100 jewels, 40 artists, 20 countries around the world: The Jewelry DROPS is an International Editorial Project which celebrates through the images and stories of the protagonists, a crosssection of what the world of jewelry offers in all of its facets. The research starts from a primal curiosity for the elements of nature, found in the fascination for the sinuous movements of the waves, projected in the irregular circles chained to each other by Domenica Crisci (Italy), and in Gabriela Fauchs’s (Switzerland) highlight of the similarity between man and water, in which his features and continuous mutations are reflected. Fire, an element used in various material manipulation techniques, is now told through them as the bearer of new life, either as depicted in Jutta Behr-Schaeidt’s (France) fire-blackened silver ring, or in Sigal Harmeshi’s (Iceland) jewelry series about lava, represented through molten silver reshaped by fire itself. The earth is studied through gems, defined as “treasures” by Avo Stone (USA) whose unique and modern Jewels talk about a nature that has been intertwined with humans since childhood, and is able to influence their moods and feelings. This ongoing study of our surroundings is in contrast with the increasingly heartfelt criticism of the modern man, detectable in the creations of Ariel Chen (Singapore), who brings up the conditions faced by the coral populations from the BP oil spill disaster with a meticulous use of stones, beads and their colors. In the works of Marc Diaz (Spain) and Dorottya Hoffmann (Hungary) you will see, on the other hand, a more general critique of the paradoxical relationship between the Earth and man: the first, a mother that hosts and shelters, the last, a heedless destroyer. The research of “terrestrial” is set side by side with a modern desire to understand something more distant, moving toward new themes dedicated to the fifth element: the Ether, found in Alfonso Anzivino’s (Italy) link between jewelry, music and stars, and in Andrezza Valentin’s (USA) works in which she reinterprets the cosmic dance of celestial bodies among gilded plays of light and elliptical shapes. The shift to a type of jewelry that depicts something intangible, leads to more abstract and introspective interpretations, leaving room to the interiority of the person who wears them. Jewelry does not remain just an accessory but it also becomes a statement of emotion and intent. Modern jewelry, adapting to this thread, gives more space to craftsmanship in such a way that the jewelry becomes as individual as the wearer itself. This can be seen in the customizable and bespoke creations of Eva Yette Fauve Charriere (Switzerland) or in the pieces of Tatiana Marques (Portugal) which evolve into an extension of the owner and a reflection of its movements. Despite the need for modernity, the jewelry is still inspired by ancient and traditional realities, newly reinterpreted and made their own by the artists. Christian Nasr (Lebanon) draws inspiration from traditional elements of different civilizations, such as the jewelry of Indian Maharaja and Maharani or the arches typical of Andalusian architecture. Laura Agnello Modica’s (Italy) keeps focusing on her Italian cultural heritage and its sculptures, starting from their original stories and translating the meaning to those who will wear them. Farnaz Gonabadi (Australia), on the other hand, brings back mythological and ancient narratives by interpreting them through the shapes and materials used. A common theme found in this publication remains the seeking of uniqueness which characterizes the piece, the story it tells, and the person who wears it. By leafing through The Jewelry DROPS you will discover the origins and innovations of the people who, different in nationality, cultural background, and in the materials/techniques used, are pursuing a personal research of the world.

German Kabirski is a contemporary designer who aims to reinvent jewellery by offering bold statement accessories for people to express themselves rather than adorn. He values flaws and imperfections that make the best art pieces just as much as the human character. His pieces are not jewellery. They are living creatures from the Earth’s crust, where gemstones and metals melt together. Brought onto the planet’s surface through volcanoes and earthquakes, they longed for the intensity and high temperatures of the underworld until they discovered it in a simple human touch.

Love and Peace - a timeless slogan and myth, was the inspiration for this exploding flower power play of colours. The opulent unique piece combines symbolism and craftsmanship. Centrally recognizable: a butterfly with precious stones and fire enamel in a colour mix, as a symbol of a peaceful and free life. To be able to fly away at any time - or to linger gently. Another symbol can only be recognized at second glance: a peace sign made of colourful flowers.

Antonio Vivaldi made the seasons audible. In four concerts he describes them with suitable sounds and feelings. With this unique piece, Alfonso Anzivino has made the course of the year wearable in a necklace. Fire enamel and precious stones let the seasons shine in their typical colors and fit harmoniously into an overall picture. Between summer and autumn the sun shines once again at its peak. The circle closes at the neck of the wearer and begins anew with delicate, ever stronger flowers.

PINLOVE HYPNOSE Pendant

White gold, white round diamonds

1

The “Pinlove Hypnose” pendant is inspired by the pendulum with its mythical hypnotic effect. It is a symbol of the bond that ties mind and body, conscious and unconscious. It is said that the swinging of the pendulum can induce a state of trance, and that it can help to open the mind to new possibilities. The pendant is a reminder that we are all connected to our subconscious minds, and that we can use this connection to heal ourselves and to reach our full potential.

2

2

“Morphosis” is inspired by the process of morphogenesis, which is the process by which an organism undergoes development, such as the stamen of a flower. The design is also a symbol of growth and transformation. The way that the elements are interconnected suggests that we are all connected to each other, and that we are all part of a larger process of change. The design is a reminder that we are all constantly evolving, and that we should embrace the changes that come our way.

HAREM OF ANDALUCIA Necklace

White gold, white round diamonds

3

The horseshoe arch, the emblematic arch of Moorish architecture in Andalucìa, the Harem Room interior decoration; this unique piece reinvents the arch design with an additional touch of feminism. Ornamentation is further explored in the diamonds setting that covers front, back and contour of the necklace, condensed and dispersed gradually to the less visual part, same as the concept of ornamentation in Alhambra, covering everything: walls, arches, ceilings and vaults.

4

MAHARANI Ring

White gold, white round diamonds, emerald

4

The “Maharani” Inspired by the maharaja’s and maharani’s jewellery that was once synonymous with opulence, wealth and luxury of India. Characterized by the symmetry of multi layers of rings opening like leaves to

hold an exquisite emerald on top similar to the turban ornamented with jewels on the forehead of the Maharaja. This piece is a reminder of the opulence and luxury of the Indian maharajas. It is also a symbol of power and status.

They aspire to be the other name of statement jewellery.

1

The Feroza Delight’ is a more abstract piece from their statement collection ‘23, ‘Tahtal Bahr’, translating as ‘Under the Sea’. Its inspiration comes from the unique sea flowers, and the alluring teal colour of the deep sea. Its eccentric elevated shape represents the crashing waves of the sea making it a true statement piece. This piece makes a bold statement of resistance and strength and not for the fainthearted, while also emanating the grace of feminine beauty.

2

The Starfish is one of their masterpieces from their thematic jewellery collection ‘23, ‘Tahtal Bahr’, translating as ‘Under the Sea’. It is uniquely handcrafted in an irregular shape imitating the sea creature, starfish and incorporating the ravishing turquoise colour of the sea. It is enamelled by hand creating an illusion of imperfect texture that makes it look closer to nature that we took our inspiration from. The earrings are also studded with the semiprecious stone of aventurine from India.

After careers as a freelance photographer and retail designer, Michael Opipari embarked on a new journey. Since 2017, his experiences have given him a perspective on crafting environmentally friendly, ethically sourced wearable art. Michael’s process begins with water-casting, a method involving the introduction of molten silver into water. These water-cast elements are then micro-welded into larger configurations, preserving details soldering or casting cannot achieve. Ultimately, combining traditional and nontraditional metalsmithing techniques yields one-of-a-kind organic creations.

TA N Z A N I T E Ring

950 Platinum Cabochon cut tanzanite Diamonds

1

When he found the tanzanite at a jewellery show, he did not have a design in mind. He was simply fascinated by the colour play of the stone and the structure inside giving it an incredible liveliness. When his wife saw the stone, she immediately fell in love and could not stop raving about it. He wanted a clean straightforward design to showcase the stone. The diamonds give the ring something feminine and elegant, breaking through the sterile coolness of the platinum.

2

This bracelet represents many strengths of our workshop: The task was to design a modern men’s bracelet, incorporating diamonds from inherited jewellery. The client also wanted a movable element to give the bracelet an individual touch. He decided to use the princess cut diamond as the main element. The movable rollers in the elements on the right and left should be independent elements to loosen up the look without taking away the masculine character of the bracelet.

West Coast cocktail party gear, Art Deco meets endearing. Musette, designed and hand-made by her mother and her, is one of the debut collections of their family’s luxury jewellery brand: ALEXA & ARCADIA. Each miniature handbag is exclusive in that the gemstones are hand-cut, offered in varieties of stones and some even open as lockets to keep a photo or hide a little secret. The idea originated from their mother, who started making for herself little bag-shaped pendants 10 years ago.

2

Medieval Art Deco mash-up. Ancient jewellery is fascinating, especially that of the middle ages. A crucial time in history for the innovation of jewellery techniques. What is surprising is the complexity they harnessed and materials they worked with already, so much attention to detail. Some of the techniques used today date back to those times, and in essence have not changed much since then, this must have been an exciting time to live in. This piece is modernised by the use of faceted stones.

Art is communication and identifies us. That is why Marc Diaz is concerned about the message that designers and brands send to the world with his work. To overcome certain harmful nihilisms for the common good, his creations integrate, beyond an empty aesthetic, the aesthetics of ethics. As a plastic artist, goldsmith or designer, he is inspired by Arte Povera. And he combines it with the Real, the Symbolic and the Imaginary to value, through contemporary jewellery, the defence of the environment and respect for people. Madjoi communicates a new era in which care and affection will be the protagonists.

Morning Glory plant fiber (Ipomoea purpurea), Bark and Tears of Lemon Tree (Citrus×Limon) and Lemon Tree Shellac

1

We destroy surplus food. We import fruits while we do not harvest our crops. We waste them while hunger and scarcity are near. This forces people to leave their homes and migrate. In Mallorca, for example, houses are no longer built, but hotels are. Tourism, the dragon that both degrades and feeds us, has put humanity in a good mess. Instead of preserving and conserving beauty, the environment that houses us and offers resources, we insist on destroying it.

2

Bright lemon star to illuminate what is to come. The ethics of the possible. The aesthetics of the invisible. The conservation policy. Marc gives voice to the materials. They question him in an attempt to understand why they have no rights, something which is easily forgotten. And they speak to him clearly, infecting him with lucidity and humility. If a bright lemon star has illuminated you, there is no sin, there is joy and there is hope. Following it is no longer an option, it is about enjoying the journey.

This link between masculine and feminine is essential for her. Yes to the emancipation of women and yes to certain feminisms, but no to the exclusion of gender. Women have a responsibility to include and retain men in the emancipation of women. That is what the Cuff-links collection is all about.

This set of cocoons is created by the process of creation itself. Each piece grows like a real cocoon in nature. In human life, a cocoon often symbolizes a safe environment that allows growth, change and protection from external threats. This ring is a combination of two cocoons, silver and gold: It shows also that the forces complement each other. The fire-blackened part tells of the forces that can work here. Height 4 cm.

A powerful composition. Three elements - one ring. Almandine in the form of a drop, pure gold, light-filled silver. This composition is enhanced by its structure, reminiscent of rocks.... The rock in the surf? Carried, this work can make feel great confidence. Almost luminous confidence. Rock solid dynamics. This ring looks rough and has a heavy weight, and yet it is so soft and pleasant on the finger.

An inscription of pure gold - a spontaneous, intuitive writing. This writing tells of a great animal, perhaps a horse or a bull, galloping into new territories, without haste, but with joy and energy. The result of this imaginary journey is found at the other end of the open ring in the form of a rock opal. Here the traveller has arrived and can rest in the dreamlike play of opalescent colours of this gemstone, grounded and strengthened by its mother rock.

7

This work lifts the simple into its proper place. Since aquamarine gives, among other things, vision and foresight, so that one can always see new paths and possibilities and include them in their plans (Gienger), this beautiful faceted gemstone is set almost free-floating. The gold grounds it, the drop shape of the ring refers to water (lat./ital. aqua marina) and so fluidly combines these two elements.

One sees through this work that an obstacle that seems insurmountable can be overcome, that one can even sometimes bypass it simply by changing the point of view: the stylized hedge depicted here looks insurmountable at first glance, but when one looks down, one sees that the obstacle is easier to get around here. And that then the stars lie at their feet and light the way.

The stud earrings depicting the fox’s face are in 925 silver and are part of the first “Renard Argenté” collection, entirely dedicated to the silver fox, the brand’s guide animal. The refinement and the concept of beauty develop in the attention to individual details. A strong identity distinguishes the precious creations, suitable for all those who love combining Italian elegance with French charm.

2

The renardargenté chain necklace has a 925 silver lobster clasp closure and has been embellished with charms from the “Les amis du renard argenté” collection, inspired by the woodland fauna in which the fox lives. All the jewels have the fox’s face engraved on the back, the brand’s identifying seal. 18KT yellow gold

Inspired by Calder’s stabiles, the Stabile Earring is strikingly understated and elegant. Like a dance of lightness and movement, it adorns the ear with grace, suspended delicately between sophistication and brilliance. The thin 18k gold wire embraces the contour, tracing a delicate path around the ear. And in its golden halo, a semi-circle band shimmers like a tiny crescent moon. Its light construction and rounded contact points make the Stabile earring comfortable for everyday wear.

2

Mesmerizing and unconventional, the Orbit 18k gold ring defies the ordinary with its graceful soft, round, and kinetic shape. The middle round band floats within an elliptical gold embrace, mirroring the cosmic dance of celestial bodies. Like a tale of interconnectedness and daring elegance, it embodies a fusion of creativity and wonder.

As an architect and an art history graduate, her work process brings together the various disciplines of architecture, art and design. Her architectural vocabulary of minimalism, harmony and cleanliness along with inspirations from Japanese aesthetics of the Wabi Sabi “perfect imperfection” is represented in the smaller scale of minimal, sculptural, and non-decorative jewellery. Based on traditional silversmithing, she kept experimenting with new materials such as polymers and patinas, and integrated them with silver, brass and gold metals, creating subtle yet elegant contemporary jewellery.

The Pangolin ball symbolizes protection and hope. With such great odds piled up against it, its very existence seems almost impossible - yet it persists. If a pangolin can prevail, then anything is possible. You are possible. There are times in life when you must stand up, walk upright, stare danger in the face, and fight for what you believe in. There are also times when rolling up into a ball is necessary to avoid conflict, protecting your soft underbelly until danger has passed. In the end, the test won’t prove what you’re ready for, but what you’re made of. Keep a thick skin, but your insides soft.

She approached resin out of curiosity and her hobby became a passion and then a work project. She started by creating objects for the home, then she worked with resin to create bijoux, in which this often replaces the part generally belonging to gems. Fondone15 and Fondone15_to_wear were created. Resin was a random and lucky discovery. It is like her, fickle and imperfect and so her jewels are IMPERFECT, similar but almost never the same and unique, just as each of us is different and unique. IMPERFECT, her way of saying UNIQUE PIECES!

Earrings made up of two buttons and two asymmetric rods in bronze or silver. Inside the bezels there are small coloured resin cabochons. There are many colour combination possibilities. Who didn’t love SMARTIES tubes? You will also love these earrings!

2

A single or double brass circle enclosing the coloured resin to create an explosion of colours, an ECLAT, always random and always different. With clips or pin. She decides the combination of colours to pour into the resin mirror and the colours are arranged randomly and only slightly conditioned by her will. They are independent and unique, just as each person who wears them must be independent and unique.

Studio hoffmann D’or was founded by Dorottya Hoffmann. The brand is expanding into two fundamental directions: creating made-toorder pieces and dreaming up own collections that give the brand its base characteristics are these two main threads. Beyond the brand the designer is inspired by the ideas of contemporary jewellery design. These conceptual jewellery pieces represent the gems of the collection found on the site. Inspiration: layers, objects, details that carry the message. The idea behind the design is that one day these jewels can represent a soul.

The calling of the piece is to subtly activate the creative powers within your feminine principle. Carnelian, female energy in its very core, this one of a kind ring is a circle of aetheric dancers, certain qualities that protect, raise awareness, or solely enrich - as needed. Looking closely, the surface of the ring offers countless captivating textural details, smooth here, rugged there, simple and complex, natural.

2

Human existence in its current form is an absolute paradoxon. Our culture, our way of life is built on exploitation; it limitlessly consumes the very resource that nourishes it - the Earth. The object represents the contradictions and extremities of this relationship, our planet that patiently grows in green, and us humans touching it with our backs turned. It is an uneasy calmness, like carrying a reusable tote with groceries packed in plastic bags inside.

Avo Stones is a brand new company, founded by two childhood friends: Avetik Karapetyan and Harutyun Khachatryan, both designers. The idea to start the jewellery was given by his dog, when he was digging in the backyard of his house and his 2 year old son was finding colourful stones from that hole and putting them in his box saying those were his treasures/gemstones. At that time he was talking to his childhood friend, who thought it was a great idea to start a making jewels with gemstones.

In a more abstract vision of the forms an elegant piece is born but with the same base of inspiration as the Serpent “Plato Negro” from her country. In representation of its characteristic black head of this endangered species, the onyx stone has been its essential part. The square trefiles intertwined like this, capture the rhythm with each other in repetition for the unification of a piece that between its simplicity but delicate design attracts attention transforming everything around it.

2

It is a piece composed of a simple ring, passing through the representation of the head of the Serpent “Plato Negro” created in a gallery within an armed structure in three parts to finally finish in a curvilinear body, with certain patina finishes. RUBRUM

Bracelet

Natural coral, sterling silver

1

1

The RUBRUM bracelet is made of Mediterranean red coral with the addition of a natural pearl, because they are the main gems deriving from the sea with which she prefers to work. Gems where man intervenes in a more limited way compared to other gems, because he can already use them as nature creates them. The coral chips are set in a silver structure of irregular circles chained to each other to symbolize the sea waves chasing each other.

2

GEMMA MARIS Ring

Sterling silver, baroque pearl, blue quartz

2

To create her jewels she takes great inspiration from the sea, its colours, its elements and its materials. The GEMMA MARIS ring contains precisely what the sea can give us, one of the most beautiful, feminine and meaningful gems that women have worn since ancient times: the pearl. A gem where nature decides shapes and colours. The structure of the ring is in silver and represents the sinuous movement of the sea waves evoked by the blue quartz which gives transparency and depth.

LAVA & LOVE

Silversmith and designer Sigal Harmeshi creates a medley of unique sterling silver rings and jewellery. Her work is inspired by the fascinating wild nature she sees in her homeland in Iceland. Beginning with raw sterling silver sheets, Sigal heats and hammers the metal to transform it into swirling bracelets and rings reminiscent of lava flows. The addition of Icelandic lava, moonstone, obsidian, agate, and other semi-precious stones along with Norse runes and ancient symbols make her jewellery original and unique.

GLACIAL DROPS MAGMA FLOW Ring

Sterling silver, opallite

1

This ring resembles the magma flowing from the centre of the volcanic crater. In the process of creating this ring, as the fiery torch licks the surface of the silver, it forms an exact replica of red, hot lava flowing. The glacial drops are pure, piercing and icy blue. They are smooth to the touch and give you the feeling the sleek ice inside and on top of glaciers all around Iceland. The merging of the glacial frozen diamond drops and the magma lava flow, represent the land of fire and ice.

This classy statement piece carries the story of the lava rock. Black the colour of Iceland. It is beaches, mountains and landscape, all carry the same story: lava. The molten rock changes form as it flows, its sound so silent yet piercing, only those who got close will understand. Emerging from the depth of the volcano, each centimetre of flow is a surprise, transforming into different elements and to new existence. The lava rock tells a story of persistence and identity.

3

Glaciers on top of volcanoes. This oxymoron exists in the land of fire and ice, loved by all and called Iceland. This stone is icy blue resembling glaciers and ice caves in Iceland. They are all smooth, silky and icy. The layers in the glaciers tell of frosty winters, snowfalls, rainfalls, avalanches, storms and even volcanic eruptions. In time, glaciers will be part of the past, it is in us to do our part. This glacier, holding on tight to the fiery lava, an oxymoron in Iceland.

Putting in front, looking ahead. Making plans and setting the end point. This necklace, inspired by the eye of Michelangelo’s David, becomes almost an amulet for the wearer, an eye that is always open and alert, determined, aware. The look of the one who has not yet defeated Goliath but already has the awareness of emerging victorious from the fight. The particular silver finish gives it a timeless appearance.

2

A small turned head of which only the cheek and hair can be glimpsed, looking out of a window open directly onto the interiority of the wearer: this jewel is a brooch that can be pinned close to the heart. Hand modelled in wax and subsequently cast in 925 silver, Soul searching invites us to look inside ourselves. Inside a small engraving: “be who you were born to be”.

She received her professional education in goldsmithing and stone cutting in Turnov. In 1990 she established her own studio in Pilsen. She has been working there since then. She works mostly with reticulated silver, her beloved material. Rough and not shiny surface is a typical feature of her jewels and larger objects, too. When you arrange and layer plates and wires of various shapes and structures the final result is a very interesting relief. The surface is not smooth and boring, it displays contrasts between light and dark... the jewels invite a wearer to touch them and cherish them.

They do not hear others talking or the sound of the surrounding environment, gradually becoming indifferent. They make a choice to be deaf towards someone’s cry for help or vice-versa - sounds of upcoming danger. Stone headphones are perfect for those who sits without music on in their ears, but just with headphones. Photo: Nikita Alexander Krestovskiy

This is a statement piece from the set “I don’t talk, my choice”. It portrays people being silent towards each other and censorship restrictions in everyday communication. By being too immersed in the social media, real life social skills tend to degrade. This piece is a part of MA collection 2022. There are 3 robots in total and each lacks one organ of sense. Statement of this piece is “I don’t talk, my choice”. This statement is translated to binary language and engraved on the piece. Photo: Nikita Alexander Krestovskiy

SOHRAB

AND GORDAFARID AUSTRALIA @MIDDAYSUMMERDELUSION middaysummerdelusion@gmail.com

After studying architecture for seven years, one day on a whim, Farnaz Gonabadi participated in a jewellery crafting course. What began as a temporary hobby turned into a profound calling, leading her to devote her life to this art form. Her architectural background enabled her to merge design and craftsmanship with purposeful meaning. With each project, her ultimate goal is to craft jewellery that conveys specific meanings and statements. Under the name ‘MiddaySummerDelusion,’ Farnaz loses herself in a euphoric haze, designing pieces that translate poems, tales, and mythologies into wearable art.

In the White Fort, the fearless warrior Gordafarid defends Iran’s borders. Sohrab, a young warrior, seeks to conquer the fort. Despite Gordafarid’s initial resistance, she realizes his superior strength and retreats. Sohrab lassoes her, but she escapes using her allure and cunning. Sohrab captures the fort but tragically dies later in battle against his own father, putting an end to his rampage. The barrette and its stand symbolize Sohrab’s naivety in the form of a male stag.

2

The Gordafarid haircomb and stand represent the female warrior’s essence from the “Book of Kings.” She possesses beauty, wisdom, and cunning, donning armor for battle and resorting to deceit when needed. As the representation of the motherland, Gordafarid cannot be conquered without consent, leading to tragic consequences for those who attempt it. Inspired by her seduction of Sohrab, I crafted this piece as a hair comb, capturing the allure of her beautiful long hair.

Nana Watanabe is a Japanese jewellery designer. After gaining experience as a designer for ISSEY MIYAKE and other Japanese brands, she launched ARRO in 2017. All the pieces are embroidered using highly programmed machines and assembled by hand. The three-dimensional and colourful shapes are inspired by the plants and animals of an imaginary paradise in her mind. Very light embroidered jewellery gently fits on the wearer, and brilliant colours bring a peaceful mind to the person wearing it.

SHRIMPS / RED Earrings

1

Red shrimp embroidered earrings. The power of the red colour attracts the eye of the beholder. Transparent organdie fabrics overlap, and the intensity of the red colour changes with the amount of light. The soft fabric was embroidered to add tension to the material, creating a firm shrimp shell. The eyes of the shrimp and the part of the egg they contain are embroidered with thickness, and various embroidery stitches are combined to create a three-dimensional feel and textural variation.

2

These embroidered earrings are inspired by the beautiful clarity of the shrimp and the texture of the shell. The organdie fabric is embroidered and then cut along the outline, then folded like origami to create a three-dimensional effect. Two overlapping parts accentuate the clarity and beauty of the complex and delicate creature. The shrimps’ slender legs took advantage of the natural motions caused by the use of cloth to express their vividness.

Khatam is an ancient Iranian handicraft made from very fine pieces of wood, metal, and bone. It encompasses everything from forests to animals, from mountains to trees. Khatam inherently signifies the diversity and multiplicity that has been organized systematically. She blends this traditional structural order into a world emptied of order, creating the order of her inner world, a realm filled with tiny particles of colour, light, and shape where the music of Khatam is played in a contemporary language.

2

Within her resides a myriad of women, each embodying distinct qualities—a calmness akin to the tranquil sea, the unbridled freedom of windblown hairs, strength akin to mighty mountains, and the vibrant colours of blooming flowers. The collection, “Nature Within,” encapsulates these pieces of nature, birthed from the depths of her inner journey. Everything within us harmoniously intertwines with nature, making us an integral part of its magnificent tapestry.

Her love for cream ignites her desire to transform the cream extruded from a dessert decorator into enticing desserts and fashion it into jewellery for adorning the human body. She wants to reflect a delightful and playful interplay emerges, with the juxtaposition of black and white, as well as the interweaving of dots and lines, embellishing the neck with a blend of sturdy structures and graceful curves.

2

During the pandemic, she picked up a new hobby: baking. She has become utterly captivated by the velvety, luscious texture of creamy treats. She dreams of preserving this delightful sensation forever, so she meticulously hammered a dollop of cream floating on a hollow silver plate shape, allowing it to gracefully rest in her palm. She wanted to emphasize a sense of contrast, infusing a minimalist impression into the character of the jewellery being adorned.

Her design falls within the trend of geometric abstract arts, of the search for shapes combining in an aesthetically harmonious way to reflect and arouse emotions. Emotions of breaking the mold, even if in the wake of art history, of searching for the innovative, the unusual or the usual applied to new areas, without however ignoring the possibility of easy use. Her products are mostly unique or in any case made in small series, because the research is continuous.

BLACK BEHIND GOLD Earrings

Carbon fibre, 24KT gold

1

The earrings designed by SULA are conceived as cuts in the material under which a contrasting element emerges. Presented here is the version in which a compact black background can be seen behind the cuts in the bright yellow gold. The bottom is in carbon fibre made with a 3D printer, the 24k gold part is handmade from a gold plate also beaten by hand. They measure 4x3 cm. SULA’s design was created by a goldsmith craftsman/artist of the highest level.

2

The necklace designed by SULA extends the theme, already present in the earrings, of cuts in the material that reveal an underlying contrasting element. In the necklace the contrast between bright yellow gold and deep black carbon fibre is complemented by elements of zebrano wood, which in turn simulates dark cracks. The gold part is handmade from a gold plate also beaten by hand. SULA’s design was created by a goldsmith craftsman/artist of the highest level.

She is a textile designer. She currently lives in Zurich and occasionally in Italy. Through the bachelor thesis she has read into the interesting topic of collars and worked out the historical background. As a result, she has designed and created new collar shapes. She is especially interested in craftsmanship, details, shapes and natural materials like linen. She made the collars she designed from old discarded linen fabrics. Her collars as jewellery give the wearer an individual look and thus more self-confidence.

This embroidered maxi collar gets its volume from the various layered old white linen fabrics. Some hole embroidery, which was created by an embroidery machine with cotton thread, was cut out by hand. This reveals the lower layers of fabric, which are also embroidered, and the collar gains depth. With a hand-woven ribbon of different collared linen yarns, the collar is held together in the front, with a loop.

2

The pleated collar gets its distinctive stiff look from the heavy old unbleached linen fabric. Cutting out the small leaf shapes gives the wide pleats a lovely detail and makes them hold their shape better. This pleated collar was all hand sewn and is tied in the front with linen thread. The pleats change depending on the size of the straps. They are opened wider or less, which varies the look of the collar.

Sophie Belanger was born in 1979 in Quebec, Canada. Her artistic research is essentially inspired by her personal perceptions and feelings about the event she encounters in her life. It is through working with matter that colour springs forth, giving birth to the shapes and structures that bear witness to the quest that shapes her personality. By contrasting, juxtaposing and assembling colour fibres, she creates metaphors that contribute to the jewel’s narrative. Through her universe, she invites us into a world as colourful as it is intriguing.

ALL EYES ARE ON YOU Brooch

Merino wool, sterling silver, nylon, cotton, beads, steel

1

Confined in its box, the eye watches you, judges you. By allowing it to open up, you give it a chance to admire you. All eyes are on you. Judgments fall away and make way for the autheticity, originality and beauty that you are. Let them admire you and look at you without fear. Now you can tell them who you are. Your story makes you unique, and you deserve all the attention in the world. Go on, tell them who you are.

2

Unconditional love is characterized by a sincere and pure attachment to someone. It is a love given to others without preconditions. It is also the kind of love that pushes to give the best of oneself for someone and to accept them as they are. By juxtaposing the coloured fibres, she depicts in pink the one who gives to the other. The transmission of affection through arms and hands. These characters are a playful way of representing the relationship between two people.

The encounter with oriental philosophies has entirely transformed her life and her artistic projects have been redefined in line with her personal growth. These necklaces are part of the ‘Le Amiche’ collection in which each piece is conceived as a sculptural object in fabric: a unique and unrepeatable artistic piece and accessory to be worn at the same time. Just like in a group of friends, each necklace stands out for its personality and beauty. Over the years she has collected fabrics and materials of a certain uniqueness from which she draws for her creations, so that each necklace also brings with it a small story to tell.

2

Each necklace is padded with a compostable polymer which makes it particularly light and easy to wear as well as environmentally friendly. The decorations vary from time to time between simple free-style embroidery and the application of various types of decorative elements that she has collected over the years. She very often uses Murano glass beads of which she has a vast collection and which she loves both for the versatility of application and for the reflections of light on the final result.

Coral theme piece focusing on the effect of man-made pollution. A few years ago she has created jewellery pieces inspired by the BP oil spill, and a recent check back on the after effect a decade after the disaster, many species, such as deep-sea coral, are unfortunately still struggling, their populations lower than before. This opulent, embellished asymmetrical piece highlight the long term impact with beadwork showing textures of dead coral vs deep blue water and touch of red to convey warning and danger.

Bangle coral theme piece focus on the coral colonies near the BP oil spill a decades later. Studies had shown that after the spill, half of those coral colonies had been injured to some extent, and these corals range from decades to hundreds of years old which would take very long to recover as they grow very slowly. This beautiful yet “toxic” looking bejewelled piece featured details like biwa pearls mimicking oil slick sheen and organic coral structures corals with red crystals and diamanté.

Myriam Theveniaud, born in Cagnes-sur-Mer, in France, studied fine arts at the Villa Arson in Nice. She began by creating needle-embroidered jewellery, incorporating natural stones into her creations. After training in art embroidery, her creations took on a new dimension. This one, like all the others, is a unique creation, designed using various materials including metallic threads, silk threads, various beads and sequins. The technique is the same for this larger lichen. The creation begins with the Luneville hook to create the frame and the beginnings of the volumes. Then, needlework creates shadows and lights. The transformation takes place with hundreds of pearls clumping together to create a strange and unknown organism, animal, vegetable or mineral. The result is a fascinating fusion of artisanal techniques that bring contemporary unique and nature-inspired jewellery to life. Photo: Nicolas Chaxel
