Formanyofusourexpectationsofwhatthefirstdayofcollegeshouldbeislessormoreofwhatis predictableconsideringthatsomeofushaveneverbeentocollegeorarereturningtocollege.The mind–setsthatwehavenotonlyarecomparabletomostbut,areverysurrealtoalotandcanbe overcoming.BeingthatIam42yearsold,goingbacktoschooltofinallyundertakesomethingwith denotationhadmemotivatedyet,explorewhetherthiswasformeTobeoncampuswiththe majorityofthestudentshalfmyageunfortunatelymademefeelvulnerableandtimeworn.I understoodgoingback,therewouldbemanychanges,especiallywithtoday'stechnologyandnew updatedcurriculumsThesensethatyouwanttobereadyforwhatevershowmorecontent Studentswereeitherwaitinginthehallwaysfortheirnextclassorwalkingquicklytotheirnext class.Conversingwiththeirpeerssomestudentsappearedtobehappyandothersnotsohappy.It remindedmeofhighschoolbutwithoutthelockersandtheyardsupervisorsshoutingatyoutoget toclass.Onceinclassandseatedtheuneasinessfounditswaybacktomygut.Waitingforthe professorastheclassfilledupfeltliketimewithoutendTheglimpsesIacquiredfromother studentswerehardtoreadassomewerewithahalf–smileorjustablankstare.Withoutadoubt,the feelingofnervousnessandanxietywasfeltthroughouttheroom.Keepinganopenmindofothers wasn'thardsincemynurturingsidekickedinandmy"MomMode"quicklyturnedon.Themajority ofthesestudentscouldeasilybemykidsgiventhefactthatmostwerejustoutofhighschool. ItwasmyfirstdayattendingTexasA&MUniversity.Felinganticipationandeagerness,Ididnot knowingwhatIshouldexpectfromcollegeinthecomingyears.Myfirstdayofcollegebegan.At thetime,IwasunawarethatonlytwothousandpeopleintheUniversitycalledthemselves"Cadets" andthattheirjourneyisdifficultyetrewarding.Iwasforcedintothisorganizationbymyparents andtheirunyieldingandresolutedecisiontohavemedevelopmysocialandacademicskillshere
TheCorpsofCadetsatTAMUisfamousforteachingtheirCadetshonor,courage,integrity, disciplineandselflessservice.LifeintheCorpswasnotatallwhatIwantedatfirst.Idreamedofa peacefulandrelaxingcollegelife,fullofparties,games,easyclassesandagreatjobofferattheend Afterattendingthenewstudentconference,different"cadets"wereassignedtodifferentoutfitsand differentcompaniestosponsorthemfortherestoftheschoolyear.Uponmyarrival,Iwasassigned toanallmaledormwhereeveryfreshmenandupperclassmenwouldbelivingtogether.Isawallthe upperclassmenwiththeiruniformson,andIthoughtabouthowintimidatingitwouldbethatI wouldeventuallyhavetopermanentlydonthisuniformaswellAfterfindingmyroommate,andmy fellowfreshmencomradesthatIwouldbelivingwithfortherestoftheyear,IfoundwaysthatI wouldbeabletofitinquitenicely.

Myfirstdayofcollegeisoneofthemostimportantexperiencesofmylife.Fallsemesterbeganon August28,2017.Inthatmorning,Ihadplentyoftimecomparedtohighschool.Ioversleptbecause Iknewcollegestartsonlyat10am.Ihadanalarmsetfor9am.OnceIwoke,Itookshowerandgot readyHACCisaboutminimum8minutesawayfrommyhouseBy9:40am,Iwasonmywayto theHarrisburgAreaCommunityCollege.IwasfullofconfidencethatIwillreachthecampuson time,buttheoppositehappened.Itwasmylifegoaltogotocollegehowever,therecamethe complicationbecauseIwasunawareoftheincomprehensionandunfamiliarityofbeingfreshmenin college.
