A NOTE FROM PROJECT OH! It’s hot. I think that about sums up last month and is an apt preview of the weeks to come. With that said, here is what we have going on. Art Show The next art show will be on October, 13th in honor of Halloween. Artists are set and have already begun working on pieces or the show. We are planning to have a costume contest, so come dressed to distress. After our October show we have one more art event planned for the rest of the year which we are in the process of planning. More details will soon follow. Project Oh! Magazine The process has been slow for various reasons, but we are closer to having new release dates. The plan is to have new issues released for our halloween art show, Bakersfield Comic-Con, and during

our final art event of the year. We are working hard to meet our deadlines so we can achieve that goal. Memberships We’ve just begun promoting our memberships plans. These plans are going to play a big part of how much we get to grow over the next couple of years. We are hoping to get people signed up with the incentives we currently have available, and as we grow we plan on providing even more. Everything that we receive from memberships go right back into funding Project Oh! projects. You can signup by clicking the link below. Feel free to ask us any questions regarding memberships. Your feedback is appreciated. projectoh.com/memberships/ — The Project Oh! Team

SCI-FI/FANTASY ISSUE

SURREAL/ABSTRACT

GRAFFITI/BODY ART

We are still taking submissions. Send us your photos, artwork, cosplays or short stories that fit around the theme of science fiction, fantasy, superheroes, comic book characters, etc.

For this issue we want to see some cool weird art. We are looking first for surreal artwork of any kind, and then anything else that might be a bit more abstract.

This already has a bit of content but we are looking for more “alternative canvas” type art (tattoos, bodypainting, graffiti) and some urban style street art.

Status: Open for Submissions Deadline: Aug 20th, 2017 Expected Release: Nov 2017

Last Month’s Figure Drawing The following images are from both of our figure drawing sessions from last month. Our models were April Musick-Akers and Ceeann Mendez. Our first session of the month was dedicated to the long pose. Our model held one pose for the entire session to allow our artists to capture more detail. Our second session was a normal session consisting of 1,2,5,10,15,20 and 30 minute poses. Regular sessions are $15 and held monthly during the last Saturday of each month from 12:20 to 3:30pm. Additional sessions are added periodically on varying days and times.

I’m a Delano artist that’s been creating his whole life, specifically with traditional art like pencil and ink. I studied at Bakersfield College for two years as an art major, participated in the Bakersfield First Friday’s Art Walk, and participated in two Get Down Art Shows. I want to continue my skills as an artist every day, while showcasing pieces along the way.

How would you describe your style? My medium preference is ink, but I sometimes paint with acrylic. Usually, I draw wrinkled monsters, utilizing weighted lines. A lot of my subject matter will have cartoon-y features like elongated screaming mouths, or wide panicked pie eyes. Paintings, however, tend to be more surreal. How long have you been creating art? I’ve been creating art since I was very young, but I barely started taking it much more seriously when I was about 14. It was then that I really wanted to improve on my skills, rather than constantly doodling and not putting much thought into how I created art. What got you started? When I started taking art seriously, it was because of my introduction to Alex Pardee. I loved his older artwork because he created all sorts of grotesque monsters, and his art style was so fun to look at. I saw an interview where he explained how creating things helped him deal with his own mental illness, and it inspired me to also use art as an outlet to express myself. Any advice or lessons you’ve learned? Never be too prideful to accept criticism. It’s so important to get feedback, negative and positive. Always look at art, as well. You can always learn something new from artists if you take the time to

actually analyze what they create. And to those that want to be artists: take time to draw everyday. So many people get discouraged because they can’t translate what’s in their mind onto paper from the get go. It takes time and patience. Every artist is still learning and growing in their career. Who are your favorite Artists? Alex Pardee, Dave Correia, Jon Wayshak, Jessica Lynn (AKA corpsetits), Jordan Debney, and Dusty Ray. Why do you think art is important? Art is the greatest outlet for every aspect of human life. It allows us to not only express ourselves, but it also allows us to convey ideas and beliefs. It’s beautiful connection between all people. Why do you think strengthening the community is important? People need to learn to understand one another. Art allows us to do so. In doing so, we will all grow together, rather than alone or tearing each other down. How can people follow your work? Instagram: @impisdead Facebook: Angeal Art Deviant Art: impisdead
