A NOTE FROM PROJECT OH! So, here we are nearing the end of the first quarter of 2017. As of writing this, we have already spent the first week of March which included the 4th installation of The Get Down Art Show which we will talk a little bit more about in our April edition. Overall, 2017 is going pretty good so far. We’ve had a few setbacks here and there, which is to be expected, but we’ve been able to complete quite a few of our goals so far. The magazine projects are moving forward and looking good to be released within the next couple of months. The idea as of now is to have our Horror themed issue printed before the end of this month and our SciFi issue being the focus of the next quarter. If all goes well, we might release another issue during next quarter as well. This month we are also looking to add new workshops to see how well they do. In addition to our drawing workshops, we are going to be debuting our filmmaking workshop on the 23rd with instruction by Rickey Bird of Hectic Films and author of Cheap Movie Tricks. Rickey will host a series of workshops designed to take you through the entire process of creating a short film. At

the completion of the program, we will have a special screening of the students’ work. We are also designing a short program for beginner and intermediate photographers looking to pick up new skills. This will go over camera basics, shooting outdoors, in studio, and go over post editing techniques. Our team is also starting to grow as we venture into a new phase of Project Oh! We are extremely grateful to everyone who has put in work with us to move this project forward and look forward to more collaboration in the very near future. About The Cover This month we selected some images from Sean Phillips who has submitted work for our Horror Issues and is also a featured artist in this month’s art show. Both the front and back covers are based on pieces created by Sean. You can learn a little bit more about His work in this release and in the soon to be released Issue #13.

SEAN PHILLIPS

This month’s front and back cover come courtesy of Sean, a local collage artist. Sean will also be displaying his work at the Get Down Art Show #4 and will appear in Issue #13 of Project Oh! Magazine. My name is Sean Phillips. I am a collage artist out of Bakersfield, CA. I started playing around with the style back in high school in the mid-90’s. But recently started really working with it in late 2012. As far as education, I have a Bachelors degree in graphic design. People have told me they can tell I have a sense of style and design in my pieces that I create. ” - Sean How would you describe your style? My style of collage art is mostly based on early styles of punk rock show and concert posters. I always loved the overlaying of various elements, especially photocopied. I like for my work to be playful, yet with a darkness to it. I like to make people think. I want my art to stir emotions, whether positive or negative. I need people to see things in a more artistic way. You either love or hate my art. How would you describe your process? My process usually starts with backgrounds that I make. From there, I often think of some sort of theme that I want to stick with, or some sort of visual representation of something. I tend to focus on rebellion against religion, war, social statuses, government, and political issues. From there, I pick different images to convey my feeling towards my topic.

DEJA NUNEZ

dejadeja

Deja is a self-proclaimed “pizza expert” with a love for ink. She will be one of 10 artists featured this month during The Get Down Art Show. ‘My name is Deja Nunez. I was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. I moved to Chicago when I was 19 which was an amazing experience. I received a BA in Art and Design from Columbia College Chicago. I love to eat, but I hate cooking. I’m obsessed with dragqueens. I’m interested in what’s going on in people’s heads. I am a natural redhead. People often say I look 10 years younger than I actually am, but that I should take it as a compliment. I am very sarcastic with a quite twisted sense of humor. I love animals, and I think cats are aliens.” - Deja
