Outdoors and Family Fun Whether it’s fun in the sun you’re planning or a relaxing getaway, families will find plenty to do all year round in Greater Shepparton. Home to the largest outdoor adventure playground in Australia, SPC Ardmona KidsTown offers parents the chance to relax whilst the kids slip down the giant slides, explore the fruit bin maze or ride the miniature train. Discover! Why the Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) has been voted Australia’s best small art museum.
Arts, Culture and Heritage Greater Shepparton has an eclectic mix of arts and cultural experiences to capture the imagination of visitors. Known as a multicultural melting pot, the region has a depth and diversity that is reflected in everyday life and the vibrant events calendar which includes the SheppARTon Festival, Australian National Piano Award and the biennial Indigenous Ceramic Award. Arts Home to Victoria’s best small art museum, the Shepparton Art Museum – affectionately known as SAM, was voted Victoria’s best small Museum by Museum Victoria and is home to an impressive collection of Australian historical and contemporary ceramics along with significant holdings of Australian art in all media. SAM has a distinct program of temporary exhibitions and public programming including artist talks and workshops. SAM also hosts the biennial Sidney Myer Fund Australian Ceramic Award, the richest award of its kind in Australia, presenting the nation’s best contemporary ceramics medium. Greater Shepparton has a rich and diverse Aboriginal history. Home to Australia’s first purpose-built Aboriginal Cultural Keeping Place, Bangerang Cultural Centre, visitors can learn about Aboriginal culture and history,

while Gallery Kaiela exhibits work by local Aboriginal artists, in particular their internationally-recognised South East Australian painting style. The history of the Yorta Yorta people can be experienced on “The Flats” walk between Shepparton and Mooroopna. Glasson’s Art World’s private gallery showcases some of the best work by Goulburn Valley artists. Members of the public are free to peruse the display at their leisure. Moooving Art For a fun photo opportunity look out for Greater Shepparton’s unique public art exhibition, a colourful collection of life-sized 3D fibreglass cows known as the MooovingArt cows. With more than 90 cows in the herd scattered throughout the municipality, each has its own design and persona, these quirky bovines are a much-loved celebration of the region’s agricultural industry.
Heritage Greater Shepparton’s fascinating wartime involvement, rich irrigation history, famous Murchison Meteorite and priceless Aboriginal artefacts are just some of the historical gems to be discovered in our region. Our rich history from pre settlement through to modern day immigration can be traced through the archives at the priceless heritage centres in Shepparton, Mooroopna, Tatura, Merrigum and Murchison. Culture Our local Aboriginal culture is celebrated and displayed at the Bangerang Cultural Centre which is recognised on the Victorian Heritage Register and houses an important collection of Aboriginal artefacts and artworks. Whilst the history of the Yorta Yorta people can be experienced on “The Flats” walk, located between Shepparton and Mooroopna. Fun on the fairways is assured with the many challenging golf courses Greater Shepparton has to offer, all located within 26km of the Shepparton city centre. Just a short drive from Shepparton’s central business district is the Shepparton Golf Club, nestled in a peaceful rural setting on the banks of the beautiful Goulburn River. Rated among the top 10 courses in rural Victoria, it offers uncrowded fairways, undulating landscape, in a relaxing country atmosphere. Known as “the friendly club”, the Mooroopna Golf Club is also situated alongside the scenic Goulburn River. The tree lined 18-hole course, provides a challenge to golfers on its sweeping, manicured fairways. The Hilltop Golf and Country Club at Tatura boasts a testing 5910 metre par 71 for men and a 5136 metre par 72 for women. With more than 40 bunkers, it is

Motoring Shepparton is known as a mecca for car lovers – the city hosts the annual Spring Car Nationals, drawing thousands of motor vehicle enthusiasts to the region each November. Shepparton is also the perfect location for car rallies and other motoring events, with ideal facilities including the Driver Education Centre of Australia, the picturesque Victoria Park Lake foreshore and the expansive Shepparton Showgrounds. Numerous car-related events are held in Shepparton, including national and state rallies and the annual Rotary Club of Shepparton car show.
The museum’s collection is dynamic as new vehicles and themed displays are constantly rotated through the exhibition space, ensuring there is something fresh and exciting for first-time and returning visitors. Visit Shepparton’s newest tourist attraction – the Shepparton Motor Museum – which houses more than 70 classic, vintage, veteran and muscle cars, motorcycles and vintage bicycles as well as fun displays of collectables including radios, vintage clothing and signs.
Depending on the time of your visit, you may be lucky enough to catch the annual swap meet, or for motors of a different kind, the Valley Radio Flyers Mammoth Scale Fly In, featuring more than 100 model planes, promises a fantastic display for the thousands who flock to the event. Tatura Tatura is a bustling country town with historic architecture lining the main street and is steeped in history from World War II with seven Prisoner of War camps that were in operation around the district. The museum and German war cemetery also add to the depth of history. Home also to the largest dairy show in the southern hemisphere, International Dairy Week, held at Tatura Park, the township can double its population during the many events held here throughout the year.
