Tertiary Education in Greater Shepparton: Why it’s worth obtaining a degree
WHY IT’S WORTH obtaining A
DEGREE
If you don’t want to commit to a whole degree course straight away, you can start with a diploma that is the first building block of a degree. If you don’t meet entry requirements, there are pathway programs to get you started. Making a start may be your toughest assignment! Don’t think a degree is beyond you – but willingness to work hard puts a degree within your reach.
Costs and Employment Tertiary education is a good investment of time and money. • Graduates generally get higher incomes • Graduates generally experience less unemployment • Degrees are required for more and more jobs. Other reasons for getting a degree: • Great career opportunities • Establishing networks • Gaining lifelong learning skills. Be the first in your family to gain a degree - then help other family members share an amazing experience.
Almost everyone who really wants a degree can find a way to manage the costs. Because the costs can seem daunting, we suggest you consider how to manage them by finding out your entitlements, then preparing a budget. It is a good idea to talk with someone who knows the system. For example, going into debt for education may seem a negative, but in reality the HECS system serves students very well, because you only pay the HECS debt off once you have sufficient income to do so. You may also qualify – or be able to qualify – for the Youth Allowance, which makes valuable fortnightly payments to eligible students. Some scholarships and awards are also available. To research these issues, GOOGLE: YOUTH ALLOWANCE, HECS, SCHOLARSHIPS MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY, SCHOLARSHIPS LA TROBE UNIVERSITY. You don’t have to stop working to study for a degree. Nearly all students have full time, part time or casual employment. Tertiary education institutions in Shepparton work closely with industry on career opportunities. To research employment, GOOGLE: EMPLOYMENT SHEPPARTON.
